Resumo Refletir sobre a Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) na Educação Matemática é cada vez mais urgente como forma de luta e reivindicação dos direitos que historicamente foram negados aos sujeitos dessa modalidade de ensino. Este artigo tem por objetivo mapear as produções acadêmicas publicadas na Revista Boletim de Educação Matemática (Bolema) nas últimas duas décadas (2000-2020) sobre EJA. Para isso, respaldados na metodologia do tipo estado do conhecimento, foram construídas redes de palavras-chave e das referências utilizadas por cada artigo selecionado. Os dados foram organizados e inseridos no software NodeXL Basic para a construção de redes, cuja análise permitiu verificar, dentre outros aspectos, as relações exercidas pelas palavras-chave utilizadas nos 12 artigos catalogados, identificar os aspectos teóricos privilegiados pelas pesquisas e os autores que exercem maior relevância no fluxo de informações sobre o tema. A Etnomatemática e a Modelagem Matemática são ações que dinamizaram reflexões nas pesquisas e os autores que se destacaram são Freire e Skovsmose. Apesar de tímida a produção do tema no periódico analisado, foi possível traçar considerações a respeito de três categorias que emergiram de nossa análise: práticas de sala de aula na EJA, produção de materiais didáticos na/para a EJA e currículo de Matemática na EJA, o que também demonstra os assuntos de destaque das produções.

Abstract Reflection on Youth and Adult Education (YAE) in Mathematics Education is increasingly urgent as a struggle and claim for rights that have historically been denied to YEA students. Thus, this article aims to map the academic productions published in the Mathematics Education Bulletin (Bolema) in the last two decades (2000-2020) on YAE. With the support of the state of knowledge methodology, we built keywords and reference networks used by each cataloged article. Data were organized and entered into the basic NodeXL software for building networks. The analysis allowed us to verify, among other aspects, the relationships exerted by the keywords used in the 12 cataloged articles, in order to identify the theoretical aspects used by researchers and authors that exert greater relevance in the flow of information on the subject. Ethnomathematics and Mathematical Modeling are actions that stimulated research reflections and the authors who stood out are Freire and Skovsmose. Despite the small production of the topic in the analyzed periodical, it was possible to draw considerations on three categories that emerged from our analysis: classroom practices in the production of teaching materials in YAE and mathematics curriculum in YAE; which demonstrates the issues highlighted in the productions.

Abstract Objectives: Upper respiratory tract infections in children generally have significant morbidity and mortality. There is little data available about functional immaturity of the immune system and the child’s susceptibility to infections at the beginning of their lives, thus, justifying a more specific immunological analysis. Method: Analysis of hemograms and innate and adaptive immune responses in 95 children between age 1 to 6 years with episodes of recurrent respiratory infections (test group n = 39) and without these episodes (control group n = 56) was carried out. The production of reactive oxygen intermediates by peripheral blood cells stimulated by phorbol myristate acetate was analyzed. Additionally, the number of B lymphocytes, auxiliary T lymphocytes, and cytotoxic cells was determined using flow cytometry. Results: Results from both groups did not show statistically significant differences in red blood cells, total leukocytes count, and the differential neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes count. The analysis of the number of B lymphocytes, auxiliary T lymphocytes (LTCD4), and cytotoxic cells (LTCD8) also did not show any difference between both groups. However, the production of radical oxygen intermediates was significantly reduced in the test group as compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: There was no difference in the analysis of hemograms, leukograms, or the number of lymphocytes, LTCD4, LTCD8, or LTCD19. The reduced production of oxygen intermediates in the affected group suggests that these children’s microbicide capacity is compromised, which may be related to their recurrent respiratory infections.

Abstract Background: Triatomines are blood-feeding arthropods belonging to the subfamily Triatominae (Hemiptera; Reduviidae), capable of producing immunomodulatory and water-soluble molecules in their hemolymph, such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). In this work, we evaluated the antifungal and immunomodulatory activity of the hemolymph of Meccus pallidipennis (MPH) and Rhodnius prolixus (RPH) against Cryptococcus neoformans. Methods: We assessed the activity of the hemolymph of both insects on fungal growth by a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay. Further, RAW 264.7 macrophages were cultivated with hemolymph and challenged with C. neoformans. Then, their phagocytic and killing activities were assessed. The cytokines MCP-1, IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-10, IL-12, and IL-6 were measured in culture supernatants 4- and 48-hours post-infection. Results: Both hemolymph samples directly affected the growth rate of the fungus in a dose-dependent manner. Either MPH or RPH was capable of inhibiting fungal growth by at least 70%, using the lowest dilution (1:20). Treatment of RAW 264.7 macrophages with hemolymph of both insects was capable of increasing the production of MCP-I and TNF-α. In addition, when these cells were stimulated with hemolymph in the presence of C. neoformans, a 2- and a 4-fold increase in phagocytic rate was observed with MPH and RPH, respectively, when compared to untreated cells. For the macrophage killing activity, MPH decreased in approximately 30% the number of viable yeasts inside the cells compared to untreated control; however, treatment with RPH could not reduce the total number of viable yeasts. MPH was also capable of increasing MHC-II expression on macrophages. Regarding the cytokine production, MCP-I and TNF-α, were increased in the supernatant of macrophages treated with both hemolymphs, 4 and 48 hours after stimulation. Conclusion: These results suggested that hemolymph of triatomines may represent a source of molecules capable of presenting antifungal and immunomodulatory activity in macrophages during fungal infection.

ABSTRACT Background: Domestic pigeons carry pathogens in their droppings, posing a potential public health problem. Methods: The phenotypic and genotypic antimicrobial resistances of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecium in the feces of urban pigeons near hospitals with intensive care units were measured. Results: Twenty-nine samples showed Enterococcus growth, whereas one was positive for S. aureus. The S. aureus isolate was sensitive to the antibiotics tested via antibiogram, however resistance genes were identified. E. faecium isolates showed phenotypic resistance to gentamicin, erythromycin, and ciprofloxacin. Conclusions: Antimicrobial profiles harmful to health were demonstrated in bacterial pathogens isolated from the external environment of hospitals.

Resumo Objetivos: calcular a prevalência e as taxas por 1000 nascidos vivos de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST) em gestantes de uma maternidade pública de Salvador. Métodos: estudo transversal, descritivo, com dados coletados retrospectivamente a partir das fichas de notificação dos agravos e dos prontuários de todas as gestantes com IST atendidas na maternidade, entre os anos de 2014 e 2017 (n=520). Foram calculadas as prevalências e as taxas por 1000 nascidos vivos de hepatite B, hepatite C, HIV e sífilis para a população de gestantes da maternidade. Associações entre as IST e demais variáveis clínicas e sociodemográficas também foram investigadas. Resultados: a maioria das gestantes era natural e residente de Salvador, pardas, com idade média de 26,4 anos e que não planejaram a gravidez. As prevalências e as taxas por 1000 nascidos vivos foram respectivamente: 0,26% e 3,39 para hepatite B, 0,06% e 0,79 para hepatite C, 0,47% e 6,23 para HIV e 2,46% e 32,2 para sífilis. Conclusão: a maternidade apresenta prevalências e taxas por 1000 nascidos vivos superiores aos dados oficiais do governo brasileiro, especialmente para HIV e sífilis. A correta notificação epidemiológica desses agravos, especialmente em gestantes, permite o desenvolvimento de estratégias preventivas mais eficientes e com enfoque nas características sociodemográficas e clínicas das pacientes.

Methods: this descriptive, cross-sectional study retrospectively collected data from compulsory notifications and medical records of pregnant women with STI seen at a maternity hospital in northeastern Brazil between 2014 and 2017 (n = 520). Prevalence and rate per 1,000 live births were estimated for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and syphilis. Associations between STI and other clinical and sociodemographic variables were investigated. Results: most pregnant women were born and resided in Salvador, presented a mean age of 26.4 years, self-reported mixed-race and had unplanned pregnancies. Prevalence and rates per 1,000 live births were, respectively: 0.26% and 3.39 for hepatitis B, 0.06% and 0.79 for hepatitis C, 0.47% and 6.23 for HIV, and 2.46% and 32.2 for syphilis. Conclusion: higher prevalence and rates of infection per 1,000 live births were seen at the maternity hospital in northeastern Brazil compared to official data provided by the Brazilian government, notably with regard to HIV and syphilis. The appropriate epidemiological notification of STI, especially in pregnant women, enables the elaboration of effective preventive strategies incorporating specific sociodemographic and clinical characteristics.

Resumo A doação de sangue é uma prática social que auxilia no tratamento de doenças e na manutenção da saúde coletiva. O aplicativo DoeSangue foi concebido e desenvolvido para apoiar a captação e a fidelização de doadores, fortalecendo a promoção da saúde e o engajamento social. Objetivou-se avaliar o aplicativo DoeSangue sob a perspectiva de especialistas das áreas de hematologia e hemoterapia. Realizou-se uma pesquisa metodológica, aplicada e qualitativa, de setembro de 2015 a julho de 2017, em Fortaleza, Ceará. O estudo fundamentou-se no Design de Interação Participativo associado ao Interacionismo Simbólico. Após as duas primeiras etapas - concepção e desenvolvimento do aplicativo em laboratório, e avaliação pelos usuários doadores - o aplicativo foi validado por oito especialistas do hemocentro público de Fortaleza. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se o ‘formulário de validação do aplicativo com especialistas’, com base na escala de Likert, e realizou-se um grupo focal. A ferramenta foi avaliada positivamente pelos participantes, com Índice de Validação de Conteúdo médio de 0,88. Os avaliadores apontaram, dentre outras funcionalidades, a capacidade da ferramenta em promover interatividade, mobilização e engajamento social, além de contribuir com a captação e a fidelização de doadores de sangue.

Abstract Blood donation is a social practice that helps treat diseases and maintain public health. The DoeSangue application was designed and developed to support donor recruitment and loyalty, strengthening health promotion and social engagement. We aimed to assess the DoeSangue application from the perspective of hematology and hemotherapy experts. A methodological, applied and qualitative research was carried out from September 2015 to July 2017 in Fortaleza, Ceará. The study was based on Participatory Interaction Design associated with Symbolic Interactionism. After conducting the first two steps, application design and development in a laboratory and assessment by donor users, the application was validated by eight experts from the Fortaleza’s public blood center. For data collection, the ‘application validation form with experts’ was used based on a Likert-type scale, and a focus group was conducted. The tool was positively assessed by participants, with an average Content Validation Index of 0.88. Evaluators pointed out, among other features, the tool’s ability to promote interactivity, mobilization and social engagement, in addition to contributing to gathering and loyalty of blood donors.

Abstract Background Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis are gram-positive bacterial pathogens and the causative agents of leprosy in humans across the world. The elimination of leprosy cannot be achieved by multidrug therapy alone, and highlights the need for new tools and drugs to prevent the emergence of new resistant strains. Methods In this study, our contribution includes the prediction of vaccine targets and new putative drugs against leprosy, using reverse vaccinology and subtractive genomics. Six strains of Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis (4 and 2 strains, respectively) were used for comparison taking Mycobacterium leprae strain TN as the reference genome. Briefly, we used a combined reverse vaccinology and subtractive genomics approach. Results As a result, we identified 12 common putative antigenic proteins as vaccine targets and three common drug targets against Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. Furthermore, the docking analysis using 28 natural compounds with three drug targets was done. Conclusions The bis-naphthoquinone compound Diospyrin (CID 308140) obtained from indigenous plant Diospyros spp. showed the most favored binding affinity against predicted drug targets, which can be a candidate therapeutic target in the future against leprosy.

Respiratory failure (RF) is the main cause of hospital admission in HIV/AIDS patients. This study assessed comorbidities and laboratory parameters in HIV/AIDS inpatients with RF (N = 58) in relation to those without RF (N = 36). Tuberculosis showed a huge relative risk and platelet counts were slightly higher in HIV/AIDS inpatients with RF. A flow cytometry assay for reactive oxygen species (ROS) showed lower levels in platelets of these patients in relation to the healthy subjects. However, when stimulated with adrenaline, ROS levels increased in platelets and platelet-derived microparticles of HIV/AIDS inpatients, which may increase the risk of RF during HIV and tuberculosis (HIV-TB) coinfection.

RESUMO Blechnum heringeri Brade é uma espécie endêmica do Brasil anteriormente considerada vulnerável. Até pouco tempo atrás, o número de registros dessa espécie era muito limitado e restrito ao Domínio Fitogeográfico do Cerrado, no Brasil central. Coletas recentes registraram a espécie nos campos rupestres sobre cangas, no Domínio da Amazônia. Neste trabalho, apresentamos um novo registro de B. heringeri em um encrave de vegetação de cerrado dentro do Domínio da Caatinga, no Nordeste do Brasil (Estado do Ceará). Este novo registro estende significativamente a área de distribuição da espécie, distando cerca de 1.000 km dos registros nos Domínios Fitogeográficos do Cerrado e Amazônico. Os dados evidenciam a sua associação com vegetações abertas: nominalmente vegetação de cerrado, encraves de cerrado em meio à Caatinga e à Amazônia, e campos rupestres sobre canga na Amazônia ou ambientes de transição com florestas ribeirinhas.

ABSTRACT Blechnum heringeri Brade is an endemic species from Brazil previously considered vulnerable. Until recently, there was a very limited number of records for this species, all from the Cerrado Phytogeographical Domain in central Brazil. Subsequent studies have reported its occurrence in the rupestrian grasslands (campos rupestres) on the “cangas”, within the Amazonian Domain. Here we present the first record of B. heringeri for northeastern Brazil, from an enclave of cerrado vegetation in the middle of the Caatinga Domain (Ceará State). This new record significantly extends the distributional range of the species, about 1,000 km from the known records in the Amazon and Cerrado Phytogeographical Domains. We also show that the species is associated with open vegetation or the transition between open vegetation and riverine forests, being recorded in cerrado vegetation, riverine forests associated with the cerrado, cerrado enclaves in the Caatinga and Amazonian Domains, and Amazonic campos rupestres on “canga”.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a adsorção de fósforo (P) e as mudanças ocorridas nas concentrações das formas orgânicas e inorgânicas de P em um Neossolo Quartzarênico após nove anos de cultivo sucessivos com cana-de-açúcar sem queima prévia do canavial para colheita. Para tanto, duas áreas, plantio de cana-de-açúcar e mata nativa de referência, situadas no município de Paraipaba-CE, foram selecionadas. Em cada uma das áreas foram coletadas amostras nas profundidades de 0 - 0,025; 0,025 - 0,05; 0,05 - 0,10; 0,10 - 0,20 e 0,20 - 0,30 m; determinando-se os teores de fósforo orgânico (Po) e inorgânico (Pi) obtidos através de extração sequencial, o fósforo remanescente (Prem) e a capacidade máxima de adsorção de fósforo (CMAP) do solo. De maneira geral, a permanência da palhada na superfície do solo sob cultivo de cana-de-açúcar promoveu a manutenção dos níveis de Po nas camadas superficiais do perfil. O Po acumulou -se predominantemente na fração biodisponível extraído com bicarbonato de sódio nas duas áreas. Com relação ao conteúdo de Pi, as mudanças foram mais evidentes devido ao efeito das sucessivas aplicações de fertilizantes fosfatados ao longo do cultivo, sendo a fração extraída com hidróxido de sódio 0,1 mol L-1, a mais representativa com maiores níveis de P acumulados. A adsorção de P foi influenciada pelo conteúdo inicial do nutriente no solo e nenhuma relação entre adsorção de P e o conteúdo de matéria orgânica foi observada. O maior valor de adsorção de P foi observado na camada inferior da área de mata (133,3 mg kg -1) e a menor adsorção na camada superficial da área sob cultivo de cana (59,5 mg kg-1).

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the adsorption of phosphorus (P) and changes in the concentrations of organic and inorganic forms of P in a Neossolo Quartzarênico (Typic Quartzipsamment) after 9 years of successive cultivation with sugar cane without burning to harvest. Therefore, two areas, one in which cane sugar was planted and a native forest reference area, located in the municipality of Paraipaba-CE, were selected. In each area, samples were collected at depths of 0−0.025, 0.025−0.05, 0.05−0.10, 0.10−0.20, and 0.20−0.30 m, and the levels of organic (Po) and inorganic (Pi) phosphorus obtained by sequential extraction, the remaining phosphorus, and the maximum adsorption capacity of phosphorus by the soil were determined. In general, the permanence of straw on the soil surface under sugarcane cultivation promoted the maintenance of Po levels in the surface layers of the profile. The Po accumulated predominantly in the Po fraction extracted with sodium bicarbonate in both areas. Regarding the Pi content, changes were more evident during cultivation due to the effect of successive phosphate fertilizer applications. The fraction extracted with 0.1 mol L -1 sodium hydroxide was the most representative, with the highest levels of P uptake. P adsorption was influenced by the initial content of the nutrient in the soil and no relationship between P adsorption and organic matter content was observed. The highest level of adsorption was observed in the bottom layer of the forest area (133.3 mg kg -1) and the lowest level of adsorption was observed on the surface layer of the area under sugarcane cultivation (59.5 kg mg-1).
