Abstract INTRODUCTION: Viral hepatitis is a major public health problem. It is necessary to understand the epidemic, verifying the combination of biological and demographic characteristics. METHODS: This is an analytical ecological and epidemiological study. Confirmed case data from the Notification Disease Information System (SINAN) were used. RESULTS: From 2009-2018, SINAN confirmed 404,003 viral hepatitis cases in Brazil, with 12.49%, 37.06%, and 48.28% cases of hepatitis A, B, and C, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: In Brazil, 4,296 deaths were associated with viral hepatitis, of which 36.66% were associated with acute hepatitis B. The proportional distribution of cases varied among the five Brazilian regions.

RESUMO Objetivo O aparelho de amplificação sonora individual propicia benefícios para indivíduos com deficiência auditiva. No entanto, ainda são observados baixos níveis de adesão ao tratamento, devido às dificuldades no processo de adaptação. Neste sentido, destaca-se o uso de sites ou aplicativos com os objetivos de auxiliar no processo de orientação aos usuários e de avaliar a satisfação de usuários de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual, após a utilização de um site responsivo desenvolvido para auxiliar no processo de adaptação. Métodos Estudo quantitativo analítico experimental, ensaio clínico não randomizado, com 20 participantes, divididos em dois grupos. O grupo estudo fez uso do site responsivo como ferramenta de auxílio na adaptação, além de receber as orientações em seu formato tradicional. O grupo controle foi orientado somente pelo formato tradicional já existente no serviço. Após um mês, os participantes responderam a um questionário de avaliação de satisfação e também foi realizada a análise da ferramenta datalogging. Resultados O site responsivo contou com orientações sobre manutenção e dicas de uso do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual, permitindo fácil acesso às principais orientações ao usuário inexperiente. A análise dos dados demonstrou respostas mais positivas ao questionário pelo grupo estudo, bem como maior tempo de uso diário dos aparelhos de amplificação sonora individuais. Conclusão o grupo que utilizou o site responsivo como ferramenta complementar ao processo de adaptação do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual mostrou, a partir da avaliação da satisfação e dos dados da ferramenta datalogging, maior satisfação e maior tempo de uso diário do aparelho.

ABSTRACT Purpose The hearing aid provides benefits for individuals with hearing impairment. However, low levels of treatment adherence are still observed due to difficulties in the adaptation process. In this sense, the use of websites or applications stands out in order to assist in the process of orienting users. To evaluate the satisfaction of users of hearing aids after using a responsive website designed to assist in the adaptation process. Methods Quantitative analytical experimental study non-randomized clinical trial whit 20 participants, divided into two groups. The study group made use of the responsive website as an aid tool in adapting, in addition to also receiving the guidelines in their traditional format. The control group was guided only with the traditional format already existing in the service. After one month, the participants answered a satisfaction assessment questionnaire, as well as an analysis of the datalogging. Results The responsive website had guidance on maintenance and tips on using the individual hearing aid, allowing easy access to the main guidelines for inexperienced users. The analysis of the data showed more positive responses to the questionnaire by the study group, as well as a longer time of daily use of hearing aids. Conclusion The group that used the responsive website as a complementary tool to the adaptation process of the hearing aid showed, from the assessment of satisfaction and data from the datalogging tool, greater satisfaction and a longer time of daily use of the hearing aid.

Resumo Objetivo: Descrever as características clínicas de crianças e adolescentes internados em unidade de terapia intensiva com COVID-19 confirmada. Método: Estudo prospectivo, multicêntrico, observacional, em 19 unidades de terapia intensiva pediátrica. Foram incluídos pacientes entre um mês e 19 anos, admitidos consecutivamente (março a maio de 2020). As características demográficas, clínico-epidemiológicas, o tratamento e os resultados foram coletados. Os subgrupos foram comparados de acordo com as comorbidades, idade < 1 ano e necessidade de ventilação mecânica invasiva. Um modelo de regressão logística multivariável foi utilizado para preditores de gravidade. Resultados: Setenta e nove pacientes foram incluídos (10 com síndrome inflamatória multi-ssistêmica). Mediana de idade, quatro anos; 54% eram do sexo masculino (síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica, 80%); 41% tinham comorbidades (síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica, 20%). Febre (76%), tosse (51%) e taquipneia (50%) foram comuns nos dois grupos. Sintomas graves egastrointestinais e marcadores inflamatórios mais elevados foram mais frequentes na presença de síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica. Infiltrados intersticiais pulmonares foram comuns em ambos os grupos, mas o derrame pleural foi mais prevalente no grupo com síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica (43% vs. 14%). A ventilação mecânica invasiva foi utilizada em 18% (mediana 7,5 dias); antibióticos, oseltamivir e corticosteroides foram utilizados em 76%, 43% e 23%, respectivamente, mas não a hidroxicloroquina. A mediana do tempo de permanência na unidade de terapia intensiva pediátrica foi de 5 dias; duas mortes ocorreram (3%) no grupo não- síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica. Os pacientes com comorbidades eram mais velhos, e as comorbidades foram independentemente associadas à necessidade de ventilação mecânica invasiva(OR 5,5; IC95%, 1,43-21,12; P 0,01). Conclusões: Nas unidades de terapia intensiva pediátrica brasileiras, a COVID-19 apresentou baixa mortalidade, a idade inferior a um ano não foi associada a um pior prognóstico, os pacientes com síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica apresentaram sintomas mais graves, biomarcadores inflamatórios mais elevados e uma grande predominância no sexo masculino, mas apenas a presença de comorbidades e doenças crônicas foi um preditor independente de gravidade.

Abstract Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of children and adolescents admitted to intensive care with confirmed COVID-19. Method: Prospective, multicenter, observational study, in 19 pediatric intensive care units. Patients aged 1 month to 19 years admitted consecutively (March-May 2020) were included. Demographic, clinical-epidemiological features, treatment, and outcomes were collected. Subgroups were compared according to comorbidities, age < 1 year, and need for invasive mechanical ventilation. A multivariable logistic regression model was used for predictors of severity. Results: Seventy-nine patients were included (ten with multisystemic inflammatory syndrome). Median age 4 years; 54% male (multisystemic inflammatory syndrome, 80%); 41% had comorbidities (multisystemic inflammatory syndrome, 20%). Fever (76%), cough (51%), and tachypnea (50%) were common in both groups. Severe symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, and higher inflammatory markers were more frequent in multisystemic inflammatory syndrome. Interstitial lung infiltrates were common in both groups, but pleural effusion was more prevalent in the multisystemic inflammatory syndrome group (43% vs. 14%). Invasive mechanical ventilation was used in 18% (median 7.5 days); antibiotics, oseltamivir, and corticosteroids were used in 76%, 43%, and 23%, respectively, but not hydroxychloroquine. The median pediatric intensive care unit length-of-stay was five days; there were two deaths (3%) in the non- multisystemic inflammatory syndrome group. Patients with comorbidities were older and comorbidities were independently associated with the need for invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 5.5; 95% CI, 1.43-21.12; p = 0.01). Conclusions: In Brazilian pediatric intensive care units, COVID-19 had low mortality, age less than 1 year was not associated with a worse prognosis, and patients with multisystemic inflammatory syndrome had more severe symptoms, higher inflammatory biomarkers, and a greater predominance of males, but only comorbidities and chronic diseases were independent predictors of severity.

Abstract A comprehensive tectonic evolution of Proterozoic to Cambrian rocks that integrate the crystalline basement of Rio de Janeiro State, based on the new geological map, is presented. The map combines detailed geological data integrated to a 1:400.000 scale and new geochemical and geochronology data to characterize the distinct terranes amalgamated during three pulses of the Brasiliano orogeny. The Occidental terrane comprises the Tonian to Late Cryogenean passive margin of the São Francisco paleocontinent, including reworked cratonic basement. At the same period, two magmatic arc systems were developed outboard: The Continental Inner arc system represented by the dismembered terranes (Paraíba do Sul, Embú, and Cambuci domain) integrated now in the Central Superterrane: and the Intra-oceanic Outer Arc System, the Oriental Terrane, developed from 860 to 620 Ma. Related active basins were detected in association with the two arc systems that collided at ca. 620 - 595 and 605 - 550 Ma against the São Francisco passive margin. A later collision episode at ca. 535 to 510 Ma brought the Cabo Frio Terrane (Angola tip) and closed the Búzios back-arc basin. Finally, the collapse of the orogenic belt, probably related to slab detachment and asthenosphere upwelling marks transition to Gondwana stabilization.

Abstract Although the conservation of tropical biodiversity depends on protected areas, there is still a very large ‘gap’ of knowledge on the flora of Brazilian reserves, especially in the Northeast region of Brazil. Field and herbarium surveys of the phanerogamic flora of the Ubajara National Park, located on the Brazilian Northeast, were made and analyses on phenology and dispersal syndromes were performed. 418 taxa (213 trees and shrubs, 100 terrestrial herbs, 68 climbing plants, 33 sub-shrubs, two epiphytes, one hemiparasite and one aquatic herb) were recorded. The most representative families were: Fabaceae, Malvaceae, Asteraceae, Rubiaceae and Euphorbiaceae. The annual flowering / fruiting peak hypothesis was not fully confirmed, therefore, the forest may be an important food resource for the fauna all year long (especially in the moister region). Zoochory was the predominant dispersal syndrome in the moister area, whereas, autochory and anemochory together, predominated in the drier area.

Resumo Objetivo: estimar a prevalência de incapacidade funcional para atividades básicas e instrumentais da vida diária e sua associação com características socioeconômicas, demográficas, comportamentais e de saúde em idosos. Métodos: estudo transversal de base populacional realizado em Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, em 2014; as escalas de Katz e de Lawton foram utilizadas para definição dos desfechos; empregou-se regressão de Poisson. Resultados: foram incluídos 1.451 idosos; a prevalência de incapacidade funcional foi de 36,1% para atividades básicas, 34,0% para instrumentais e 18,1% para ambas; maiores prevalências de incapacidade funcional foram observadas em idosos ≥80 anos (RP=3,01; IC95% 2,17;4,18), que não trabalhavam (RP=2,02; IC95% 1,13;3,60)) e com múltiplas morbidades (RP=3,28; IC95% 1,38;7,79); e menores naqueles com ≥12 anos de estudo (RP=0,40; IC95% 0,24;0,66), e que eram ativos no lazer (RP=0,42; IC95% 0,21;0,82). Conclusão: as incapacidades funcionais associaram-se a maior idade, menor escolaridade e multimorbidades.

Abstract Objective: to estimate the prevalence of disability related to basic and instrumental activities of daily living and its association with socioeconomic, demographic, behavioral and health characteristics in the elderly. Methods: population-based cross-sectional study in Pelotas, Brazil, in 2014; Katz and Lawton scales were used to assess the outcomes using Poisson regression. Results: the study included 1.451 elderly individuals; the prevalence of disability for basic and instrumental activities was 36.1% and 34.0%, respectively, and 18.1% in both; higher prevalence of functional disability were observed individuals ≥80 years (PR=3.01; 95%CI 2.17;4.18), not working (PR=2.02; 95%CI 1.13;3.60) and those with multiple morbidities (PR=3.28; 95%CI 1.38;7.79); and lower in individuals with ≥12 years of schooling (PR=0.40; 95%CI 0.24;0.66), and that were physically active (PR=0.42; 95%CI 0.21;0.82). Conclusion: functional disability was associated to individuals older than 80, with less schooling years and affected by multiple morbidities.

Resumen Objetivo: estimar la prevalencia de discapacidad funcional para actividades básicas e instrumentales de la vida diaria en ancianos y evaluar su asociación con características socioeconómicas, demográficas, conductuales y de salud. Métodos: estudio transversal de base poblacional realizado en Pelotas, Brasil, en 2014; las escalas de Katz y Lawton fueron empleadas para evaluar discapacidades; fue utilizada regresión de Poisson. Resultados: fueron incluidos 1.451 ancianos; la prevalencia de discapacidad fue 36,1% para actividades básicas, 34,0% para instrumentales y 18,1% para ambas; la prevalencia de discapacidad funcional fue mayor entre individuos ≥80 años (RP=3,01; IC95% 2,17;4,18), que no trabajaban (RP=2,02; IC95% 1,13;3,60) y con múltiples morbilidades (RP=3,28; IC 95% 1,38;7,79); y menores entre individuos con ≥12 años de escolaridad (RP=0,40; IC95% 0,24;0,66), y que eran activos físicamente (RP=0,42; IC95% 0,21;0,82). Conclusión: la discapacidad funcional estuvo asociada a mayor edad, menor escolaridad y múltiples morbilidades.

Atualmente, intensificam-se as discussões a respeito da educação em saúde, principalmente em relação aos agentes comunitários de saúde (ACS), para os quais a capacitação deve ser constante. Este estudo tem como objetivo relatar a experiência de capacitação de ACSs a respeito do tema câncer cérvico-uterino. A escolha do tema abordado baseou-se em sua relevância e na necessidade concreta dos ACSs observados, que não se sentiam empoderados com relação ao assunto. Diante disso, nove acadêmicos de Medicina e Enfermagem, monitores do PET-Saúde da Universidade de Brasília (UnB), realizaram encontros com ACSs dos municípios de Ceres e Santa Isabel (GO), com o intuito de fornecer a esses profissionais mais informações e técnicas para que a abordagem das usuárias em relação ao exame colpocitologico fosse bem-sucedida. A metodologia utilizada foi a integração entre educação bancária e educação dialógica, a fim de que elas se complementassem para alcançar melhores resultados. Foi evidenciado êxito, uma vez que os ACSs demonstraram ter assimilado o conteúdo e ter organizado os conceitos e puderam aplicá-los de forma criativa, envolvendo-se com o aprendizado e acrescentando a ele as suas vivências próprias em relação ao conhecimento aprendido.

Recent years have witnessed increasing discussion on health education, especially for community health workers (CHWs), who should receive continuing training. The aim of this study was to report on an experience with CHWs trained in cervical cancer prevention. The choice of the theme was based on its relevance and the observed need among CHWs, who did not feel empowered to deal with it. Thus, nine undergraduate medical and nursing students, who were monitors in the PET-Saúde project at the University of Brasília (UnB), held meetings with CHWs in the municipalities (counties) of Ceres and Santa Isabel, Goiás State, Brazil, to provide them with information and techniques in order to improve the success of Pap smears for patients. The methodology used a combination of traditional and critical dialogical learning in order to achieve the best results. The training proved successful, since the CHWs assimilated the concepts and were able to apply them creatively, interacting with the learning process and enriching it with their own personal experiences.

Este estudo se trata do relato de uma experiência vivenciada por graduandos de Medicina e Enfermagem participantes do PET-Saúde da Universidade de Brasília, cujo objetivo foi realizar atividades de educação em saúde dentro do tema prevenção de câncer cérvico-uterino nos municípios de Ceres e Santa Isabel, Goiás. Para tanto, foram feitas diferentes ações comunicativas, tais como: confecção e distribuição de cartazes/panfletos; produção de um programa de rádio; e promoção de rodas de conversa na sala de espera das unidades básicas de saúde. Essa atividade se mostrou como uma oportunidade de compartilhar experiências e sentimentos, bem como discutir ideias e conceitos visando a construir um novo conhecimento, com contribuições do saber teórico dos acadêmicos e do saber prático das usuárias. As dúvidas e questionamentos das usuárias estavam de acordo com os apontados trazidos pela literatura, e as atividades mostraram-se uma boa forma de esclarecer as dúvidas das usuárias e aproximar sistema de saúde e população, bem como de promover a educação em saúde, especialmente no âmbito da autovalorização, da prevenção e da promoção da saúde.

This case report describes the experience of undergraduate medical and nursing students participating in the Educational Program for Health Work (PET-Saúde) at the University of Brasília, the objective of which was to conduct health education activities in cervical cancer prevention in Ceres and Santa Isabel, Goiás State. The following communications activities were used: preparation and distribution of posters and leaflets; production of a radio program; and conversation groups held in the waiting rooms of primary healthcare units. This activity provided an opportunity to share experiences and feelings, as well as discussing ideas and concepts aimed at building new knowledge, with contributions from the students' academic training and the users' practical knowhow. The users' doubts and questions were consistent with those found in the literature, and the activities proved to be a good way for clearing up users' doubts and drawing the health system and the population closer, as well as promoting health education, especially in the areas of self-esteem, prevention, and health promotion.
