This guideline aimed to update the concepts and formulate the standards of conduct and scientific evidence that support them, regarding the diagnosis and treatment of the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease, with special emphasis on the rationality base that supported it.nbsp;
Chagas disease in the 21st century maintains an epidemiological pattern of endemicity in 21 Latin American countries. Researchers and managers from endemic and non-endemic countries point to the need to adopt comprehensive public health policies to effectively control the interhuman transmission of T. cruzi infection, and to obtain an optimized level of care for already infected individuals, focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic opportunistic opportunities.
nbsp;
Pathogenic and pathophysiological mechanisms of the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease were revisited after in-depth updating and the notion that necrosis and fibrosis are stimulated by tissue parasitic persistence and adverse immune reaction, as fundamental mechanisms, assisted by autonomic and microvascular disorders, was well established. Some of them have recently formed potential targets of therapies.nbsp;
The natural history of the acute and chronic phases was reviewed, with enhancement for oral transmission, indeterminate form and chronic syndromes. Recent meta-analyses of observational studies have estimated the risk of evolution from acute and indeterminate forms and mortality after chronic cardiomyopathy. Therapeutic approaches applicable to individuals with Indeterminate form of Chagas disease were specifically addressed. All methods to detect structural and/or functional alterations with various cardiac imaging techniques were also reviewed, with recommendations for use in various clinical scenarios. Mortality risk stratification based on the Rassi score, with recent studies of its application, was complemented by methods that detect myocardial fibrosis.nbsp;
The current methodology for etiological diagnosis and the consequent implications of trypanonomic treatment deserved a comprehensive and in-depth approach. Also the treatment of patients at risk or with heart failure, arrhythmias and thromboembolic events, based on pharmacological and complementary resources, received special attention. Additional chapters supported the conducts applicable to several special contexts, including t. cruzi/HIV co-infection, risk during surgeries, in pregnant women, in the reactivation of infection after heart transplantation, and others.nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;
Finally, two chapters of great social significance, addressing the structuring of specialized services to care for individuals with the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease, and reviewing the concepts of severe heart disease and its medical-labor implications completed this guideline.
A metodologia atual para diagnóstico etiológico e as consequentes implicações do tratamento tripanossomicida mereceram enfoque abrangente e aprofundado. Também o tratamento de pacientes em risco ou com insuficiência cardíaca, arritmias e eventos tromboembólicos, baseado em recursos farmacológicos e complementares, recebeu especial atenção. Capítulos suplementares subsidiaram as condutas aplicáveis a diversos contextos especiais, entre eles o da co-infecção por T. cruzi/HIV, risco durante cirurgias, em grávidas, na reativação da infecção após transplante cardíacos, e outros.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
Por fim, dois capítulos de grande significado social, abordando a estruturação de serviços especializados para atendimento aos indivíduos com a CDC, e revisando os conceitos de cardiopatia grave e suas implicações médico-trabalhistas completaram esta diretriz.nbsp;

ABSTRACT Introduction: Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in males. 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT, a non-invasive diagnostic tool to evaluate PC with prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) expression, has emerged as a more accurate alternative to assess disease staging. We aimed to identify predictors of positive 68Ga-PSMA PET and the accuracy of this technique. Materials and methods: Diagnostic accuracy cross-sectional study with prospective and retrospective approaches. We performed a comprehensive literature search on PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase database in search of studies including PC patients submitted to radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy with curative intent and presented biochemical recurrence following ASTRO 1996 criteria. A total of 35 studies involving 3910 patients submitted to 68-Ga-PSMA PET were included and independently assessed by two authors: 8 studies on diagnosis, four on staging, and 23 studies on restaging purposes. The significance level was α=0.05. Results: pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.90 (0.86-0.93) and 0.90 (0.82-0.96), respectively, for diagnostic purposes; as for staging, pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.93 (0.86-0.98) and 0.96 (0.92-0.99), respectively. In the restaging scenario, pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.76 (0.74-0.78) and 0.45 (0.27-0.58), respectively, considering the identification of prostate cancer in each described situation. We also obtained specificity and sensitivity results for PSA subdivisions. Conclusion: 68Ga-PSMA PET provides higher sensitivity and specificity than traditional imaging for prostate cancer.

ABSTRACT The truss is a rigid triangular structure, with resistance to normal load, and can be used on roofs, mezzanines, energy towers, telecommunications and bridges. Soon it is possible to state that this structural system has great relevance in the structural engineering scenario. This research uses a probabilistic method of global optimization based on collective intelligence or swarm intelligence, with promising applications in several fields of applied sciences, the Firefly Algorithm (FA), to determine the minimum weight of a benchmark truss. A sensitivity analysis was carried out with the parameters of the algorithm, such as the population (Npop), the number of iterations (Ngen), randomness parameter α, attractiveness factor β , and light absorption parameter (γ). The truss used in the tests was a benchmark structure with 10 bars, and this was optimized, obtaining a minimum weight value of around 2284 kg. When compared to other works in the literature, such value shows the effectiveness of the method adopted in this work. The software used for the implementations and simulation of the trusses was MATLAB®.

Abstract In this paper, the reactive potential of additions of red ceramic waste (RCW) and concrete of CDW, besides limestone filler for reference, was evaluated. The pozzolanic potential of the additions was evaluated by pozzolanic activity index (PAI) with lime, performance index (PI) with cement, calcium hydroxide content fixed in the modified Chapelle and characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicated that RCW reached the chemical-physical requirements for pozzolans, PAI with lime, PI with cement and presented weak amorphous halo in XRD indicating low reactivity, however, the material did not attain minimum requirements in the Chapelle test. The concrete powder, although it is not a pozzolan, was submitted to PAI with lime and PI with cement tests and presented compressive strengths below the minimums prescribed in the pertinent standards. This material also exhibited amorphous halo in the XRD, attributed to the C-S-H of the paste of hydrated cement.

Abstract Structural accidents due to punching shear failures have been reported in flat slab buildings. Design recommendations presented by codes can lead to entirely different punching shear resistance estimates for similar situations. Furthermore, design codes do not present guidelines for the design of punching shear strengthening of existing slabs. This paper uses a database with 118 experimental results to discuss the performance of theoretical estimates of punching shear resistance using ACI 318, Eurocode 2 and ABNT NBR 6118 in the case of slabs without shear reinforcement. Another database with results of 62 tests on slabs strengthened with post-installed steel and CFRP dowels is used to evaluate the performance of these strengthening techniques and to propose adaptations in codes to allow their use in punching shear strengthening situations of existing slab-column connections.

Abstract The fast anthelmintic resistance development has shown a limited efficiency in the control of animal’s endoparasitosis and has promoted research using alternative control methods. The use of chemicals in animal anthelmintic treatment, in association with nematophagous fungi used for biological control, is a strategy that has proven to be effective in reducing the nematode population density in farm animals. This study aims to verify the in vitro susceptibility of the nematophagous fungi Arthrobotrys oligospora, Duddingtonia flagrans and Paecilomyces lilacinus against the antiparasitic drugs albendazole, thiabendazole, ivermectin, levamisole and closantel by using the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). MICs ranged between 4.0 and 0.031 µg/mL for albendazole, thiabendazole and ivermectin, between 0.937 and 0.117 µg/mL for levamisole, and between 0.625 and 0.034 µg/mL for closantel. The results showed that all antiparasitic drugs had an in vitro inhibitory effect on nematophagous fungi, which could compromise their action as agents of biological control. D. flagrans was the most susceptible species to all drugs.

Abstract This paper presents results of eight experimental tests carried to evaluate the mechanical performance of unconnected "W" stirrups. Reinforced concrete wide beams were tested and their characteristics were idealized to represent column strips in flat slab buildings. The main variables were: the type of shear reinforcement; the shear span to effective depth ratio (a v/d); and the flexural (ρl) and shear (ρw) reinforcement ratios. In general, both the response and the shear resistance of the structural elements with unconnected "W" stirrups was similar to those elements with vertical closed stirrups. Increments of shear resistance of up to 84% were achieved, indicating that they have high potential for use as shear reinforcement in slab-column connections.

ABSTRACTThe aim of this work was to compare the growth pattern, adjusting the growth curves by nonlinear models and studying the development of housing sections in relation to the weight of the chicken carcass in different genotypes of an alternative strain of broiler chickens. We used 840 one day old male chicks distributed in a completely randomized design, with the following genotype strains: Redbro: Caboclo, Carijó, Colorpak, Gigante Negro, Pesadão Vermelho, Pescoço Pelado and Tricolor. The birds were housed in 28 boxes, 30 birds / box in a masonry shed with access to a 45 square meter paddock, with four replications. Body weight was measured in chickens up to 84 days of age. To determine the growth curves of the body weight of birds, collected data were evaluated from the nonlinear models: Brody, Gompertz, Logistic, Richards and von Bertalanffy. Was used "proc nlin" of SAS, using the iterative method of Gauss-Newton. The criteria used to choose the best model for the growth curve were the coefficient of determination, the asymptotic standard deviation, the mean absolute deviation of the waste and the asymptotic index. The analysis to obtain the allometric coefficients were performed using the "proc glm" SAS for genotypes Carijó, Colorpak, Pesadão Vermelho, Pescoço Pelado and Tricolor. We assessed the weights of carcass, breast, thighs, drumsticks, legs and wings. Only the equations proposed by Gompertz, Logistic and von Bertalanfy reached convergence, and the model proposed by von Bertalanffy was the most appropriate. All sections were evaluated in relation to the late growth of carcass weight in alternative lines of broiler chickens.

Deterioration of the concrete by sulfates occurs through chemical reactions between the hydrated cement compounds and sulfate ion. As a result of these reactions there is in advanced stages the formation of expansive products that cause cracking and disintegration of concrete. The use of mineral additions in the composition of the binder material to partially replace the clinker causes microstructural changes that interfere in porosity of the hydrated matrix and especially the size distribution and pore interconnectivity. This positively or negatively influences the inflow of water containing sulfate ions into the structure. This paper aims to evaluate the mineral admixtures capacity of reducing the sulfate attack in concrete structures. Dimensional changes of Portland cement mortar bars were determined, as required by ABNT NBR 13.583/2014, and were used to evaluate the mitigatory potential binder material composed by cement CP V - ARI (reference) and compositions with partial replacement of 10% by cement mass using: silica fume; metakaolin; rice husk ash; limestone and quartz filler; and red ceramic residue with different milling times. The reference mortar showed high expansion, as well as mortars containing metakaolin, limestone filler and red ceramic residue, regardless of the milling time. The silica fume, rice husk ash and quartz filler in the composition of the binder material of mortar reduced expansion to acceptable levels, making them resistant to attack by sulphates.

Abstract An updated synthesis of cyanobacteria and algae information is presented for Brazil aiming to refine the data gathered to date and evaluate the progress of the biodiversity knowledge about these organisms in the country since the publication of the Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil. The results of 2015 showed an increase of 1,250 species (35.7%) when compared to 2010, reaching a total of 4,747 species. The most diverse classes in species number were the Bacillariophyceae, Conjugatophyceae, Florideophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae and Euglenophyceae. Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae had the highest increase in species number in the five-year interval. The Southeast and South regions were the most diverse, however, the Northeast, with the states of Piauí and Sergipe, and the Central-west region, with Mato Grosso, Goiás and Distrito Federal, also stood out in the national algal biodiversity scenario. Despite the shortage of taxonomists and limited infrastructure, the results showed a significant improvement in the knowledge regarding the diversity of cyanobacteria and algae in the country during the study period, starting to even out regional geographical differences caused by subsampling.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

Punching shear is a brittle failure mode that may occur in slab-column connections, which may be prevented by using shear reinforcement in the slab-column connection. This paper presents comparisons between experimental results of 36 tests in internal slab-column connections with double- headed shear studs, which are largely used in North America, Europe and Asia, with theoretical results using recommendations presented by ACI 318, NBR6118, Eurocode 2 and also the Critical Shear Crack Theory (CSCT).Considering the database used it is possible to observe that ACI 318 presents conservative trends, whereas NBR 6118 showed a low coefficient of variation, but with a large number of unsafe results. Both Eurocode 2 and CSCT showed satisfactory results with Eurocode 2 presenting slightly higher performance.

Polymorphisms of hormone receptor genes have been linked to modifications in reproductive factors and to an increased risk of breast cancer (BC). In the present study, we have determined the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the ERα-397 PvuII C/T, ERα-351 XbaI A/G and PGR PROGINS polymorphisms and investigated their relationship with mammographic density, body mass index (BMI) and other risk factors for BC. A consecutive and unselected sample of 750 Brazilian BC-unaffected women enrolled in a mammography screening program was recruited. The distribution of PGR PROGINS genotypic frequencies was 72.5, 25.5 and 2.0% for A1A1, A1A2 and A2A2, respectively, which was equivalent to that encountered in other studies with healthy women. The distribution of ERα genotypes was: ERα-397 PvuII C/T: 32.3% TT, 47.5% TC, and 20.2% CC; ERα-351 XbaI A/G: 46.3% AA, 41.7% AG and 12.0% GG. ERα haplotypes were 53.5% PX, 14.3% Px, 0.3% pX, and 32.0% px. These were significantly different from most previously published reports worldwide (P < 0.05). Overall, the PGR PROGINS genotypes A2A2 and A1A2 were associated with fatty and moderately fatty breast tissue. The same genotypes were also associated with a high BMI in postmenopausal women. In addition, the ERα-351 XbaI GG genotype was associated with menarche ≥12 years (P = 0.02). ERα and PGR polymorphisms have a phenotypic effect and may play an important role in BC risk determination. Finally, if confirmed in BC patients, these associations could have important implications for mammographic screening and strategies and may be helpful to identify women at higher risk for the disease.

Currently, algae and algae products are extensively applied in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Algae are the main organisms that take up and store heavy metals. Therefore, the use of compounds derived from algae by the pharmaceutical industry should be closely monitored for possible contamination. The pollution generated by heavy metals released by industrial and domestic sources causes serious changes in the aquatic ecosystem, resulting in a loss of biological diversity and a magnification and bioaccumulation of toxic agents in the food chain. Since algae are at the bottom of the aquatic food chain, they are the most important vector for transfer of pollution to upper levels of the trophic chain in aquatic environments. Moreover, microalgae are also used for the bioremediation of wastewater, a process that does not produce secondary pollution, that enables efficient recycling of nutrients and that generates biomass useful for the production of bioactive compounds and biofuel.

(Note on the germination of Vochysia tucanorum seeds treated with growth regulators). The aim of this work was to evaluate the germination response of Vochysia tucanorum Mart. seeds treated with GA3 and CEPA and germinated under white light or darkness. Newly collected seeds from a Cerrado area were stored for 14 days at two temperatures (25 °C ± 2 and 7 °C ± 1). After the storage period the seeds were pre-treated with distilled water (control), gibberellic acid (GA3), 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPA) and a mixture of GA3 + CEPA. Following this, the seeds were sown in Petri dishes on filter paper moistened with distilled water and germinated in either darkness or white light. The results suggest that seeds are non-photoblastic and non-dormant, however a photoblastic behavior emerges when the seeds were previously stored at low temperature and imbibed in CEPA and GA3 solutions. In general, there is no difference between the 7 °C and 25 °C storage temperatures. The germination of seeds pre-treated with CEPA and CEPA + GA3 under white light was faster as compared to the distilled water control, and the effect of the CEPA + GA3 mixture was more pronounced than CEPA alone. Thus, the germination rate of V. tucanorum seeds can be improved by treatment with CEPA or CEPA + GA3 under white light.
