RESUMO A Caatinga é um bioma exclusivamente brasileiro e um dos mais diversificados do mundo, abrigando grande variedade faunística. Este estudo objetivou relatar a presença de carrapatos em tamanduás Tamandua tetradactyla (Linnaeus, 1758) atendidos no Centro de Conservação e Manejo de Fauna da Caatinga, Petrolina-PE, Brasil. De fevereiro de 2010 a fevereiro de 2016, 23 T. tetradactyla foram recebidos e inspecionados para avaliação da presença de carrapatos. A identificação foi realizada pela observação das características morfológicas e pela utilização de chaves taxonômicas. Aproximadamente 8,69% (2/23) dos animais apresentavam parasitismo por carrapatos. Os ixodídeos foram encontrados fixados nas regiões ventral e cervical, e identificados como Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato (cinco fêmeas), Amblyomma auricularium (uma larva, 18 ninfas e uma fêmea) e Amblyomma sp. (seis larvas). Este estudo relata o parasitismo inédito de larva de A. auricularium em T. tetradactyla no semiárido pernambucano, bem como reafirma a maior afinidade por membros da superordem Xenarthra. O parasitismo de R. sanguineus s.l. em tamanduá-mirim pode estar relacionado ao compartilhamento do mesmo habitat com cães domésticos infestados. O parasitismo sobre animais silvestres em novas localidades onde não foi registrado previamente deve ser estudado para ampliação do conhecimento sobre a distribuição geográfica dos ixodídeos no Brasil.

ABSTRACT The Caatinga is an exclusively Brazilian biome and one of the most diverse in the world, housing a great variety faunal. Southern Tamandua (Linnaeus, 1758), known as collared anteater, can be found throughout the country. The present study aimed to report the presence of ticks on anteaters treated at the Conservation Center and Wildlife Management of Caatinga, Petrolina, Pernambuco, Brazil. From February 2010 to February 2016, 23 T. tetradactyla from the municipalities of Juazeiro (BA) Casa Nova (BA), Sento Sé (BA), Nonato (PI), Petrolina (PE), Great Pond (PE ) and Willow (PE), have been received and inspected to evaluate the presence of ticks, which were later collected with the help of anatomical tweezer and stored in tubes containing 70% alcohol. The identification was carried out by observation of morphological characteristics in stereomicroscope and use of taxonomic keys. Approximately 8.69% (2/23) of the animals had parasitism by ticks. The Ixodids were found fixed on ventral and cervical regions and were identified as Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato (five female), parasitizing the anteater 1 coming from Petrolina-PE; Amblyomma auricularium (one larva, 18 nymphs and a female) and Amblyomma sp. parasitizing the anteater 2 coming from Salgueiro-PE. This study reports the novel parasitism by larva of A. auricularium in T. tetradactyla in semiarid of Pernambuco ; and reaffirms the higher affinity of this ixodid by members of the superorder Xenarthra. It was possible to determine the parasitism of R. sanguineus s.l. in collared anteater, the which may be related to the sharing of the same habitat with domestic dogs infested. The parasitism of wild animals in new locations where they were not previously registered must be stimulated to expand the knowledge of the geographical distribution of ixodids in Brazil.

Objetivou-se no presente estudo determinar o consumo, digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca e nutrientes, além dos balanços de nitrogênio (BN) e hídrico (BH), de ovinos alimentados com silagens de capim-búfel. As silagens das cultivares de capim-búfel avaliadas foram Tanzânia, Buchuma e Biloela. Utilizaram-se 21 ovinos, machos, castrados, mestiços Santa Inês x Sem Padrão de Raça Definido, com peso corporal médio inicial de 31,8±3,16kg, mantidos em gaiolas metabólicas. Foi utilizado um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com sete repetições. Não foram observadas diferenças nos consumos de MS em g/dia (919,2) e porcentagem do peso corporal (2,9). De modo geral, os coeficientes de digestibilidade da matéria seca variaram de 37,7% a 60,0%. Os BN e BH foram positivos, sendo observados maiores valores de BN para os ovinos alimentados com silagens de capim-búfel dos cultivares Tanzânia (5,1g/dia) e Biloela (3,9g/dia), e maiores BH para os animais alimentados com silagens de capim-búfel dos cultivares Buchuma (1,38kg/animal/dia) e Biloela (1,42kg/animal/dia). Os cultivares de capim-búfel Tanzânia, Buchuma e Biloela apresentaram bom valor nutritivo, sendo que o capim-búfel na forma de silagem promoveu 60% do consumo total de água diário do animal.

The objective of this present experiment was to determine intake and apparent digestibility of dry matter and nutrients, nitrogen (NB) and water balances (WB) of sheep fed with buffel grass silages. The buffel grass cultivars used were Tanzania, Buchuma and Biloela. 21 male, castrated, crossbred Santa Ines x Non defined genotype sheep, with initial body weight of 31.8±3.16kg were used, kept in metabolic cages. The experimental design was completely randomized with seven replicates. No differences were observed in dry matter intake in g/day (919.2) and % of body weight (2.9). In general, digestibility coefficients of dry matter varied from 37.7% to 60.0%. The NB and WB were positive, with higher NB values in sheep fed with Tanzania (5.1g/day) and Biloela (3.9g/day) and higher WB in animals fed with Buchuma (1.38kg/animal/day) and Biloela (1.42kg/animal/day). All cultivars of buffel grass evaluated (Tanzania, Buchuma and Biloela) presented adequate chemical composition, where the silage of buffel grass used corresponded to 60% of the total daily water intake by sheep.

The construction of a hexahistidine-tagged version of the B fragment of diphtheria toxin (DTB) represents an important step in the study of the biological properties of DTB because it will permit the production of pure recombinant DTB (rDTB) in less time and with higher yields than currently available. In the present study, the genomic DNA of the Corynebacterium diphtheriae Park Williams 8 (PW8) vaccine strain was used as a template for PCR amplification of the dtb gene. After amplification, the dtb gene was cloned and expressed in competent Escherichia coli M15™ cells using the expression vector pQE-30™. The lysate obtained from transformed E. coli cells containing the rDTB PW8 was clarified by centrifugation and purified by affinity chromatography. The homogeneity of the purified rDTB PW8 was confirmed by immunoblotting using mouse polyclonal anti-diphtheria toxoid antibodies and the immune response induced in animals with rDTB PW8 was evaluated by ELISA and dermonecrotic neutralization assays. The main result of the present study was an alternative and accessible method for the expression and purification of immunogenically reactive rDTB PW8 using commercially available systems. Data also provided preliminary evidence that rabbits immunized with rDTB PW8 are able to mount a neutralizing response against the challenge with toxigenic C. diphtheriae.

Ensaios em campo, sob irrigação por aspersão, foram conduzidos nos municípios de Ribeirão Preto, Votuporanga (1990, 1991) e Pindorama (1992, 1993), em São Paulo, nos solos latossolo roxo, latossolo vermelho-escuro fase arenosa e podzolizado de Lins e Marília, var-Marília, respectivamente, no período de maio a agosto, visando estudar o efeito da aplicação de micronutrientes, via solo e foliar, no rendimento do feijoeiro cultivar IAC-Carioca. Os tratamentos foram avaliados em delineamento de blocos casualizados com cinco repetições. Os tratamentos aplicados ao solo constaram de: testemunha com adubação básica e sem adição de micronutrientes; testemunha sem adubação básica e sem adição de micronutrientes; 20 kg ha-1 de borogram (8% B); 20 kg ha-1 de zincogram (20% Zn); 30 kg ha-1 de FTE-BR-12; 60 kg ha-1 de FTE-BR-12; e de aplicações foliares de uma solução contendo N (1 kg ha-1), P (0,5 kg ha-1), K (1,4 kg ha-1), aos 15, 25 e 35 dias após emergência, e de outra que, além de N,P,K incluiu uma mistura de micronutrientes contendo boro, molibdênio e zinco. Os resultados evidenciaram que a produtividade do feijoeiro irrigado no inverno pode ser incrementada pela adição da mistura de micronutrientes FTE-BR-12, na dosagem de 30 kg ha-1. A aplicação da mistura de micronutrientes incluindo o molibdênio, pode contribuir efetivamente para um aumento nos teores de nitrogênio das folhas de feijoeiro irrigado cultivado em solos com baixa fertilidade natural, como o de Pindorama.

An experiment was conducted at three localities, Ribeirão Preto (Latosolic B Terra Roxa), Votuporanga (Dark red latossol sandy phase) and Pindorama (Podzolic Lins-Marília), in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, to evaluate the response of micronutrients on irrigated dry beans during a two year period at Ribeirão Preto and Votuporanga (1990, 1991) and in the next two years in Pindorama. The experimental design consisted of completely randomized blocks, with five replications. Treatments were: check, 20 kg ha-1 of borogram (8% B); 20 kg ha-1 of zincogram (20% Zn); 30 kg ha-1 of FTE-BR-12 and 60 kg ha-1 of FTE-BR-12 all applied in the soil. The foliar application of macronutrients consisted of: N (1 kg ha-1 ), P (0,5 kg ha-1), K (1,4 kg ha-1), which were sprayed 15, 25 and 35 days after emergence. An additional treatment consisted of NPK plus micronutrients (Mo, B and Zn) which was applied during the same period. The results showed that the yield of irrigated dry beans in the winter can be increased using the mixture of micronutrients (30 kg ha-1 FTE-BR-12). The aplication of micronutrients including molibdeniun increase the concentration of nitrogen in the leaves of dry beans, in the case of low fertility soils, as in Pindorama.

Foram conduzidos ensaios de campo, sob irrigação por aspersão, nos municípios de Ribeirão Preto, Votuporanga (1990, 1991) e Pindorama (1992, 1993), em 3 diferentes tipos de solo, no período de maio a agosto, visando estudar o efeito do nitrogênio, aplicado sob várias formas, no cultivar de feijão IAC-Carioca. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, com 5 repetições. Os resultados mostraram que o nitrogênio fornecido à cultura de feijão no inverno, aumenta a produção. No solo de baixa fertilidade, a produção foi maior quando o N foi parcelado. A combinação do parcelamento de N no solo e via foliar foi superior à aplicação parcelada exclusivamente via foliar. As doses únicas aplicadas em cobertura foram mais efetivas do que aplicadas no plantio, sendo a melhor época de aplicação aos 25 dias após germinação.

An experiment was conducted at three localities, namely, Ribeirão Preto (Latosolic B Terra Roxa), Votuporanga (Dark red latossol sandy phase) and Pindorama (Podzolic Lins-Marília), in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The objetive was to evaluate the response of nitrogen on irrigated dry beans during a two year period at Ribeirão Preto and Votuporanga (1990, 1991) and in Pindorama (1992, 1993). The experimental design was a complete randomized blocks design with five replications. The results showed that the yield of irrigated dry beans in the winter can be increased adding nitrogen. The sprint application is recommendable for the low fertility soil (Pindorama). The combination of N applied to the soil and on the leaves was more effective than that only on the leaves. The single dose applied at the 25th day after germination was more effective than the one aplied at the sowing date.
