RESUMEN El virus del Zika produce desenlaces adversos para el desarrollo del sistema nervioso. Este estudio describe el neurodesarrollo cognitivo, adaptativo, comunicativo, social y motor de niños expuestos intrauterinamente al virus del Zika y hace una evaluación del neurodesarrollo con la escala de Battelle a los tres años después del nacimiento. Participaron 30 niños con una media de edad al momento de la evaluación de 37,5 (RIC: 35,7-39,2) meses. Se halló una edad equivalente en meses en las áreas: motora 25,8 (DE: 7,8), adaptativa 26,7 (DE: 5,8), comunicativa 30,2 (DE: 6,9), personal social 33,5 (DE: 8,3) y cognitiva 35,6 (DE: 5,9). Los niños presentaron retraso en el desarrollo para la edad cronológica, 25 niños presentaban retraso en una de las cinco áreas evaluadas. Una alta proporción de niños expuestos al virus del Zika durante la gestación presentaron retraso en el desarrollo, principalmente en el dominio adaptativo y motor.

ABSTRACT Zika virus infection affects the development of the nervous system. This study describes the cognitive, adaptative, communicative, social and motor neurodevelopment of children exposed to Zika virus in utero. We used the Batelle scale to assess neurodevelopment three years after birth. Thirty children were included, who had a mean age at evaluation of 37.5 (IQR: 35.7-39.2) months. We found the following equivalent ages in months for each area: motor 25.8 (SD: 7.8), adaptive 26.7 (SD: 5.8), communicative 30.2 (SD: 6.9), social personal 33.5 (SD: 8.3) and cognitive 35.6 (SD: 5.9). Children showed development delay for their chronological age, 25 children were delayed in one of the five areas assessed. A high rate of children exposed to Zika virus during gestation presented delayed developmental age, mainly regarding the adaptive and motor areas.

Resumen Antecedentes y especie de estudio: El encino Quercus brandegeei se encuentra amenazado debido a su distribución relictual, restringida a los márgenes de arroyos temporales, sus poblaciones decrecientes, y la falta de regeneración. Aunque hay evidencia de producción de bellotas viables, no se ha observado la presencia de plántulas o juveniles a lo largo de la distribución. Hipótesis: Evaluamos el patrón de agregación espacial y los factores que determinan la producción de bellotas, bajo las hipótesis de una mayor agregación en regiones con mayor precipitación y de que la presencia de bellotas dependerá de atributos individuales de los árboles y de las variables climáticas. Sitio y años del estudio: Baja California Sur, México, 2016-2017. Métodos: El patrón de distribución espacial (aleatorio, uniforme o agregado) de cada población se evaluó mediante la K de Ripley en 12 poblaciones y un total de 194 individuos. El impacto de las variables ambientales sobre la producción de bellotas se determinó mediante modelos lineales generalizados utilizando ocho variables climáticas. Resultados: Los individuos de Q. brandegeei se encuentran altamente agregados en distancias de 0-25 m. La presencia de bellotas dependió más de la región geográfica que de las variables climáticas. Conclusiones: La alta agregación y baja producción de bellotas en algunas poblaciones sugiere que existe una reducción de nicho para Q. brandegeei, confinado a micrositios muy específicos a lo largo de los lechos de los ríos efímeros. Las áreas adecuadas de reclutamiento podrían reducirse aún más con el clima más cálido y seco pronosticado para la región.

Abstract Background and study species: The endangered oak Quercus brandegeei Goldman, endemic to Baja California Sur, Mexico, is threatened because of its relictual distribution restricted to ephemeral riverbeds, declining populations, and a lack of seedling regeneration. Although there is evidence of viable acorn production, no seedlings or saplings have been found across the range of occurrence for this species. Hypothesis: We tested for spatial aggregation and factors determining acorn production, hypothesizing that Q. brandegeei trees would be less distant from one another in regions with higher precipitation and that tree attributes and climatic variables would co-determine acorn presence. Study site and dates: Baja California Sur, Mexico, 2016-2017 Methods: We conducted a Ripley’s K analysis to determine each population’s spatial pattern (random, uniform, clumped) across 12 populations and a total of 194 individuals. To find the impact of environmental factors on acorn production we conducted a series of generalized linear models on eight climatic variables. Results: Ripley’s K analysis revealed that Q. brandegeei is a highly clumped species, with the highest rate of aggregation occurring within 0-25 meters. Region but not climatic cues were found to be important determinants of presence of acorns. Conclusions: High aggregation in clumps and low evidence of acorn production in some populations suggests that there is a niche attrition for this species, which is confined to very specific microsites along ephemeral riverbeds. Suitable recruitment areas could be reduced even further under the hotter and drier climate predicted for the region.

RESUMEN Objetivos. Explorar la frecuencia e impacto de la violencia contra los trabajadores de salud de Argentina y compararlo con el resto de sus pares de Latinoamérica en el contexto de la pandemia por COVID-19. Materiales y métodos. Estudio de corte transversal a través de una encuesta electrónica al personal médico y no médico de Latinoamérica que desempeño tareas asistenciales desde marzo de 2020. Se utilizó una regresión de Poisson para estimar las Razones de Prevalencia crudas (RP) y ajustadas (RPa) con sus respectivos intervalos de confianza al 95%. Resultados. Un total de 3544 participantes de 19 países respondieron la encuesta; 1992 (56,0%) residían en Argentina. Entre los mismos, el 62,9% padeció al menos un hecho de violencia: 97,7% refirió violencia verbal y 11,8% violencia física. El 41,5% de los agredidos padecieron situaciones de violencia al menos una vez por semana. El personal de salud de Argentina vivenció más frecuentemente violencia que los de otros países (62,9% vs. 54,6%, p<0,001), siendo estos eventos más habituales y estresantes (p<0,05). Además, refirieron más frecuentemente haber considerado cambiar sus tareas asistenciales y/o deseos de abandonar su profesión (p<0,001). En la regresión de Poisson, los participantes de Argentina tuvieron una prevalencia de violencia mayor que los trabajadores de salud de la región (14,6%; p<0,001). Conclusiones. Existió una elevada prevalencia de violencia contra el personal de salud de Argentina durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Estos hechos tuvieron un alto impacto negativo entre quienes los padecieron. Nuestros datos sugieren que, esto podría haber sido más frecuente en Argentina respecto de otras regiones del continente.

ABSTRACT Objectives. To explore the frequency and impact of violence against healthcare workers in Argentina and to compare it with the rest of their Latin American peers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted by applying an electronic survey on Latin American medical and non-medical personnel who carried out health care tasks since March 2020. We used Poisson regression to estimate crude (PR) and adjusted (aPR) Prevalence Ratios with their respective 95% confidence intervals. Results. A total of 3544 participants from 19 countries answered the survey; 1992 (56.0%) resided in Argentina. Of these, 62.9% experienced at least one act of violence; 97.7% reported verbal violence and 11.8% physical violence. Of those who were assaulted, 41.5% experienced violence at least once a week. Health personnel from Argentina experienced violence more frequently than those from other countries (62.9% vs. 54.6%, p<0.001), and these events were more frequent and stressful (p<0.05). In addition, Argentinean health personnel reported having considered changing their healthcare tasks and/or desired to leave their profession more frequently (p<0.001). In the Poisson regression, we found that participants from Argentina had a higher prevalence of violence than health workers from the region (14.6%; p<0.001). Conclusions. There was a high prevalence of violence against health personnel in Argentina during the COVID-19 pandemic. These events had a strong negative impact on those who suffered them. Our data suggest that violence against health personnel may have been more frequent in Argentina than in other regions of the continent.

SUMMARY Goldenrod (Solidago chilensis) is a perennial herbaceous species native to Argentina. Even though it has important medicinal properties and potential ornamental value, the species is not produced in the Humid Pampas. We evaluated the effect of two sowing densities (71 500 and 143 000 plants.ha-1, during 2013-2014 season) and two sowing dates (early sowing in September and late sowing in November, during 2014-2015 season) on phenology, morphometric characters and dry matter yield of two harvests per cultivation cycle. Plant density did not affect phenology or yields of both harvests, but lower plant density reduced main stem length and increased main ¡nflorescence length and number of basal branches. Early sowing lengthened the vegetative and reproductive growth stages and increased main stem length, number of ¡nflorescences, number of basal branches and yields of the first and second harvest. In both seasons, the first harvest produced higher yields. Sowing in September with a density of 71 500 plants.ha-1 and a single harvest per cycle are recommended management practices for cultivation of goldenrod in the region.

RESUMEN Vara de oro (Solidago chilensis) es una especie herbácea perenne nativa de Argentina. Aunque presenta importantes propiedades medicinales y potencial valor ornamental, esta especie no tiene producción en la pampa húmeda. El presente trabajo evalúa el efecto de dos densidades de siembra (71 500 y 143 000 plantas.ha-1, campaña 2013-2014) y dos fechas de siembra (temprana en septiembre y tardía en noviembre, campaña 2014-2015) en la fenología, caracteres morfométricos y rendimiento de materia seca de dos cosechas por ciclo de cultivo. Se determinó que la fenología y los rendimientos de ambas cosechas no fueron afectados por la densidad de siembra. Sin embargo, la menor densidad disminuyó la longitud del tallo principal y aumentó el largo de la inflorescencia principal y el número de ramas basales. La siembra temprana alargó el período vegetativo y el reproductivo, e incrementó la longitud del tallo principal, número de inflorescencias, número de ramas basales y rendimientos de la primera y segunda cosecha. En ambas campañas, la primera cosecha produjo mayores rendimientos que la segunda. Como prácticas de manejo para el cultivo de vara de oro en la región, se recomienda la siembra en septiembre con una densidad de 71 500 plantas.ha-1 y una sola cosecha por ciclo.

Abstract The iAtlantic Project has established an international collaborative strategy to improve mapping and characterization of deep and open ocean ecosystems in understudied regions of the Atlantic and evaluate their health. In December 2022, the first iAtlantic expedition in the South Atlantic set off to map and explore seafloor ecosystems in the Santos Basin slope (200-1,000 m depths) in collaboration with the Petrobras ‘Santos Basin - Regional Characterization Project.’ The 17-day ‘iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras’ cruise was conducted on board the research vessel NPqHOc Vital de Oliveira (Brazilian Navy) and performed (a) water column structure characterization, (b) seafloor morphology mapping, (c) description of benthic habitats and communities by seafloor imagery and biological/ geological sampling, and (d) ex-situ experiments to assess the functioning of sedimentary ecosystems and their responses to climate-related environmental changes. This study describes the rationale behind the iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras cruise science plan, reports its sampling strategy and methods, and summarizes its collected data and preliminary results.

Abstract There are high incidences of epilepsy and autism in the preschool and school ages, in which the synaptic plasticity and synaptogenesis are more active, a primary interruption of the synaptic function due to injury or genetic mutation may result in the appearance of both pathologies as in Lennox Gastaut S., De Aircadi S, epilepsy with continuous slow waves during sleep and Landau Kleffner S. There is evidence of abnormal brain maturation in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Normal pruning eliminates faulty connections and optimizes neuronal functioning. In autism, this pruning would result in degrees of anatomical “over-connectivity” that increases or decreases the efficiency of communication between cortical regions. The same occurs with axonal myelination that affects integrated interregional cortical communication and synchronization. Critical and vulnerable mechanisms are appreciated during the peri-neonatal period, with subsequent stabilization of the synapses to form pre-designed neural networks through genetic mechanisms and modified by environmental factors. There are anomalies in different proteins that modulate the first phase of synaptogenesis, mutations in protocadherins, cadherins, and abnormalities in glutamatergic and GABAergic systems that affect the brain. All these aspects are critical for learning, language, and memory in both autism and epilepsy.

Resumen Se presentan altas incidencias de epilepsia y autismo en el preescolar y escolar, edades en las que la plasticidad sináptica y sinaptogénesis es más activa, una interrupción primaria de la función sináptica por lesión o mutación genética puede resultar en aparición de ambas patologías como en S. Lennox-Gastaut, S. De Aircadi, Epilepsia con ondas lentas continuas durante el sueño y el S. de Landau Kleffner. Existe evidencia de maduracion anormal del cerebro en TEA. La poda normal elimina conexiones defectuosas y optimiza el funcionamiento neuronal. En autismo, esta poda daría lugar a grados de “sobreconectividad” anatómica que aumentan o disminuyen la eficiencia de la comunicación entre regiones corticales. Igual ocurre con la mielinización axonal que afecta la comunicación cortical interregional integrada y sincronización. Mecanismos críticos y vulnerables durante el período peri-neonatal, con posterior estabilización de las sinapsis para constituir redes neuronales prediseñadas mediante mecanismos genéticos y modificadas por factores ambientales. Existen anomalías en diversas proteínas que modulan la primera fase de la sinaptogénesis, mutaciones en las protocadherinas, cadherinas y anomalias en sistemas glutamatergicos y gabaergicos que afectan el cerebro. Todos estos aspectos son críticos para el aprendizaje, lenguaje y memoria tanto en autismo como epilepsia.

Resumen Introducción: La amiloidosis por cadenas livianas de inmunoglobulinas (AL) es una enfermedad poco frecuente. El tratamiento implica un desafío, justificado en parte por el compromiso sistémico y la evidencia científica escasa. Objetivos: Elaborar recomendaciones basadas en la evidencia que permitan realizar un adecuado tratamiento de pacientes con amiloidosis AL. Métodos: Se generó un listado de preguntas con formato PICO centradas en la efectividad y seguridad del tratamiento de la amiloidosis AL. Se realizó la búsqueda en PubMed, Cochrane y Epistemonikos. Los niveles de evidencia y los grados de recomendación se basaron en el sistema GRADE. Resultados: Se generaron 11 recomendaciones. En pacientes con amiloidosis AL seleccionados, se recomienda el trasplante autólogo de células progenitoras hematopoyéticas (TCPH) poste rior a una inducción con esquemas basados en bortezomib y el acondicionamiento con melfalán, ya que podría profundizar la respuesta hematológica, de órgano, su durabilidad y mejorar la supervivencia. En pacientes no elegibles para TCPH, se recomienda el tratamiento de primera línea con esquemas basados en bortezomib, dado que es probable que logre mayor tasa de respuesta hematológica, de órgano y mejore la supervivencia. En pacientes con contraindicación o inaccesibilidad al bortezomib, se recomienda el tratamiento con agentes alquilantes y corticoides, dado que es probable que logren la respuesta hematológica, de órgano y mejoren la supervivencia. Discusión: Estas recomendaciones de tratamiento se basan en la evidencia disponible y la ex periencia del panel de expertos, en un escenario de recursos disponibles limitados, acorde a los países en vías de desarrollo.

Abstract Introduction: Immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a rare disease. Treatment is chal lenging, justified in part by systemic compromise and limited scientific evidence. Objectives: Develop evidence-based recommendations that allow adequate treatment of patients with amyloidosis AL. Methods: A list of PICO format questions focused on the effectiveness and safety of amyloidosis AL treatment was generated. PubMed, Cochrane and Epistemonikos were searched. The levels of evidence and grades of recommendation were based on the GRADE system. Results: 11 recommendations were generated. In selected patients with amyloidosis AL, autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is recommended after induction with bortezomib-based regimens and conditioning with melphalan, since it could deepen the hematological and organ response, its durability and improve survival. In patients not eligible for ASCT, first-line treatment with bortezomib-based regimens is recommended, since it is likely to achieve a higher rate of hematological and organ response and improve survival. In patients with a contraindication or inaccessibility to bortezomib, treatment with alkylating agents and corticosteroids is recommended, since they are likely to achieve haematological and organ response and improve survival. Discussion: These treatment recommendations are based on the available evidence and the experience of the panel of experts, in a scenario of limited available resources, according to developing countries.

Resumen En este trabajo se estudiaron las microfibras de un textil (camiseta) de la cultura Chimú. Esta cultura se desarrolló en la costa norte del Perú. Para determinar la materia prima y calidad estructural de las microfibras, los resultados del textil Chimú fueron comparados con los correspondientes para las microfibras del algodón de la costa norte del Perú (algodón nativo). Las imágenes de microscopia electrónica de barrido revelaron que los hilos del textil Chimú están compuestos por un conjunto de microfibras entrelazadas. Las técnicas de espectroscopia de rayos X por energía dispersiva y de plasmas inducidos por laser permitieron identificar átomos característicos de la celulosa en las microfibras del textil Chimú y del algodón nativo. Únicamente para el textil Chimú, estas técnicas espectroscópicas permitieron identificar átomos que corresponderían a tintes naturales y a residuos de polvo. La espectroscopia de infrarrojo con transformada de Fourier por reflexión total permitió identificar los mismos enlaces moleculares para las microfibras del textil Chimú y del algodón nativo. Para las microfibras del textil Chimú y del algodón nativo, los difractogramas de rayos X mostraron picos característicos del polimorfismo de la celulosa Iß de estructura monoclínica P21. La materia prima del textil Chimú es el algodón y las microfibras del mismo presentan una significativa estabilidad estructural.

Abstract In this work, we studied the microfibers of a textile (T-shirt) of the Chimú culture. This culture developed on the northern coast of Peru. To determine the raw material and structural quality of the microfibers, the results of the Chimú textile were compared with the corresponding results for the microfibers of cotton from the northern coast of Peru (native cotton). Scanning electron microscopy images revealed that the Chimú textile yarns are composed of a set of interwoven microfibers. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and pulsed laser-induced plasma spectroscopy techniques allowed the identification of characteristic cellulose atoms in the microfibers of Chimú textile and native cotton. Only for the Chimú textile, these spectroscopic techniques allowed the identification of atoms corresponding to natural dyes and powder residues. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy identified the same molecular bonds for the microfibers of Chimú textile and native cotton. For the microfibers of Chimú textile and native cotton, the X-ray diffractograms showed peaks characteristic of the cellulose Ig polymorphism of monoclinic P21 structure. The raw material of the Chimú textile is cotton and the microfibers of this material show significant structural stability.

Resumen: Conyza bonariensis, una especie medicinal e importante maleza nativa de Argentina, está representada por las variedadesC. bonariensisvar.bonariensisyC. bonariensisvar.angustifolia. El objetivo del trabajo es comparar morfológica y anatómicamente los vástagos de ambas variedades en su etapa adulta, con el fin de contribuir a su identificación. Se analizaron ejemplares en estado vegetativo y reproductivo recolectados de poblaciones naturales. Los vástagos fueron divididos en tres zonas, superior, media e inferior, para caracterizar su morfoanatomía por medio de técnicas convencionales para microscopía óptica y electrónica de barrido. Entre las características halladas con valor diagnóstico se describen el tamaño, forma y margen de las hojas, tipo de indumento, densidad de tricomas y de estomas, forma de las células del clorénquima en los tallos y tipo de mesófilo. Muchas de estas características no fueron constantes entre las distintas zonas del vástago analizado, particularmente en el vástago vegetativo. Estos resultados indican que existen caracteres morfoanatómicos cuali- y cuantitativos que permiten la identificación taxonómica deC. bonariensisa nivel infraespecífico, los cuales, a su vez, pueden variar según el tipo y zona del vástago adulto analizado.

Summary: Conyza bonariensis, a medicinal species and important weed native to Argentina, is represented by the varietiesC. bonariensisvar.bonariensisandC. bonariensisvar.angustifolia. The aim of this work is to compare the morphology and anatomy of the shoots of both varieties in their adult phase in order to contribute to their identification. Specimens in the vegetative and reproductive state collected from natural populations were analyzed. The shoots were divided into three zones, upper, middle and lower, to characterize their morphoanatomy using conventional techniques for light and scanning electron microscopy. Among the characteristics found to have diagnostic value are the size, shape and margin of the leaves, type of indumentum, density of trichomes and stomata, type of mesophyll and shape of the chlorenchyma cells in the stems. Many of these characteristics were not constant among the different zones of the shoot, particularly in the vegetative shoots. These results indicate that there are qualitative and quantitative morphoanatomical characters that allow the taxonomic identification ofC. bonariensisat the infraspecific level, which in turn may vary depending on the type and zone of the adult shoot analyzed.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The presence of comorbidities modulates the aging process, the diagnosis of cancer can significantly compromise the health of the elderly, which affects their quality of life. Objective: Determine the association between the functional dependence and the quality of life in elderly oncology patients treated with radiotherapy. Methods: Retrospective analytical study, carried out in 181 outpatients of Centro Médico Naval del Callao, Perú, male, older than 60 years. The functional dependence was assessed with Barthel index and Lawton scale; and the quality of life was assessed with World Health Organization Quality of Life-Older Adults Module (WHOQoL-Old). Results: A statistically significant association was found between functional dependence and quality of life, for both the basic activities of daily living (PR= 1.04 [IC 95 %: 1.01-1.07]), and the instrumental activities of daily living (PR= 1.08 [IC 95 %: 1.01 - 1.13]). Conclusion: There was significant association between the functional dependence and the poor quality of life in the elderly oncology patients treated with radiotherapy.

RESUMEN Introducción: La presencia de comorbilidades modula el proceso de envejecimiento, el diagnóstico de cáncer puede comprometer de manera importante la salud del adulto mayor, lo cual repercute en su calidad de vida. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre la dependencia funcional y la calidad de vida en pacientes oncológicos adultos mayores tratados con radioterapia. Métodos: Estudio analítico retrospectivo, realizado en 181 pacientes ambulatorios del Centro Médico Naval del Callao, Perú, varones, mayores de 60 años. Se valoró la dependencia funcional mediante los índices de Barthel y el de Lawton; y la calidad de vida mediante la escala de calidad de vida en adultos mayores de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (WHOQoL-Old). Resultados: Se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa entre dependencia funcional y calidad de vida, tanto para las actividades básicas de la vida diaria (PR= 1,04 [IC 95 %; 1,01-1,07]) como para las actividades instrumentales de la vida diaria (PR= 1,08 (IC 95 %: 1,01 - 1,13). Conclusiones: En los pacientes adultos mayores oncológicos tratados con radioterapia, se encuentra asociación significativa entre dependencia funcional y una pobre calidad de vida.

ABSTRACT Research on populations of the family Mugilidae is necessary for the framework of their good use and conservation, given the documented spatial-temporal variation in their attributes and biological processes. Mugil curema has also shown particularities in the southeastern Gulf of California, which should be considered. In total, 626 individuals were collected from February 2015 to August 2016. The gonad development pattern was asynchronous and divided into six ovarian and five testicular phases. The sex succession as size increases, the presence of only males in smaller sizes, some aspects of the ovarian structure, and the eosinophilic cells in the ovarian stroma suggest that M. curema could be a protandrous hermaphroditic species. Thus, the size at sexual maturity was smaller in males (18.26 cm in total length) than in females (22.08 cm). This information is greatly relevant for fishery management measures and the sustainable use approach and, at the same time, arouses interest in future research.

Resumen Con el propósito de confeccionar una guía con la mejor evidencia disponible en el tratamiento de la amiloidosis por depósito de transtiretina (ATTR), se generó un listado de preguntas en formato PICO centradas en la efectividad y seguridad y se realizó una búsqueda en PubMed, Cochrane y Epistemokus de los artículos publicados entre 2000-2020 y se incluyeron dos estudios de extensión en relación al tafamidis. Los niveles de evidencia y los grados de recomendación se basaron en el sistema GRADE, emitiéndose 11 recomendaciones para ATTRv y ATTwt. Se consideraron los siguientes fármacos: tafamidis, diflunisal, inotersen, patisiran y doxiciclina más ácido ursodesoxicolico. El grupo de expertos consensuó que el único tratamiento que demostró reducir de la mortalidad global, mortalidad cardiovascular, internaciones cardiovasculares y la progresión de la cardiopatía con un nivel moderado de evidencia fue el tafamidis 80 mg, mientras que para la formulación tafamidis 20 mg la calidad de evidencia es baja. Para inotersen y diflunisal, se formuló una recomendación en contra del tratamiento dada la falta de evidencia de calidad respecto a su efectividad, el perfil de toxicidad y la falta de disponibilidad en el ámbito local. Con respecto al patisirán, la recomendación se focalizó en la población ATTRv. El panel de expertos consensuó que el tratamiento con doxiciclina más ácido ursodeoxicólico podría ser utilizado ante la imposibilidad de iniciar tratamiento con tafamidis, recomendación débil y calidad de evidencia muy baja.

Abstract This clinical practice guideline for treating transthyretin amyloid (ATTR) cardiomyopathy is based on the best available evidence of clinical effectiveness. The PICO format was used to generate a list of ques tions focused on the effectiveness and safety of the specific treatment of patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy. The search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane and Epistemokus, between July-August 2020, and selected articles between 2000-2020, in English and Spanish. The level of evidence and recommendations were analyzed and classified by the GRADE system. The following drugs were included in the analysis: tafamidis, diflunisal, inotersen, patisiran y doxycycline and ursodeoxycholic acid. The expert panel had an agreement that tafamidis 80mg/daily is the only available drug with moderate evidence and weak recommendation for the reduction of total mortality, cardiovascular morbidity, heart failure hospitalization and progression of the disease in patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy and NYHA class ≤ 3. In contrast, tafamidis 20 mg/daily had low-quality evidence in this group of patients. The expert panel did not recommend inotersen, patisiran and diflunisal in patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy due to the lack of supporting evidence, local drug availability, and the potential risk of toxicity. When patients did not have access to tafamidis, the expert panel stated a weak recommendation to use doxycycline and ursodeoxycholic acid in patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy.

RESUMEN La curcumina contrarresta diversas patologías como el cáncer o enfermedades neuro-degenerativas. Sin embargo, su solubilidad es baja en soluciones acuosas limitando su aplicabilidad. Esta investigación elaboró una nanoemulsión estable de aceite en agua (O/W) a base de oleorresina deCúrcuma longa(ORC) para ser aplicada a bebida acuosa como una posible alternativa al uso de colorantes artificiales como la tartrazina. Se formularon y prepararon dos tipos de nanoemulsión: Oleorresina (EORC) y curcumina comercial 75 % (ECC). Estas se caracterizaron mediante el porcentaje de retención de curcumina (CR), contenido de fenoles totales (TPC); estabilidad física y tamaño de partícula (TP) por microscopía electrónica de transmisión (TEM). Se obtuvieron nanoemulsiones estables con TP de 10,201 nm y 13,847 para EORC y ECC respectivamente. EL CR hallado fue de 67,13 % (EORC) y 81,991 % (ECC); y, el contenido de fenoles para EORC fue de 35,466 y 36,128 mg EAGL/L para ECC. Igualmente, se obtuvieron bebidas acuosas a base de EORC con un CR de 80, 014 %. La bebida con EORC presentó mayor turbidez en comparación a la ECC y la tartrazina (control). Se obtuvieron nanoemulsiones y bebidas estables con aspectos diferenciables como color, turbidez, tamaño de partícula, separación de fases/tiempo. La EORC presentó mayor CR, por lo tanto, puede ser una alternativa potencial como colorante y antioxidante en bebidas acuosas.

ABSTRACT Curcumin counteracts over different pathologies like cancer or neurodegenerative diseases. However, its solubility is low in aqueous solutions therefore limiting its applicability. This study worked on obtaining an oil-in-water (O/W) stable oleoresin-based emulsion of Curcuma longa (ORC) to be applied into an aqueous beverage as an alternative to artificial colorants such as tartrazine. Two types of nanoemulsion were formulated and prepared: Oleoresin (EORC), and commercial curcumin 75 % (ECC). They were differentiated by percentage curcumin retention (CR), total phenol content (TPC); physical stability, and particle size (TP) under a Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Two stable nanoemulsions were obtained with a TP of 10,201nm (EORC), and 13,847 nm for ECC. CR observed for EORC was 67,136 % and 8,991 % for ECC. Total Phenol content of 35,466 and 36,128 mg EAG/L respectively. Same way, aqueous beverages with EORC were processed and showed a CR of 80,014 %. EORC beverage presented higher turbidity compared to ECC and tartrazine (as control). Emulsions and beverages revealed settle aspects like color, turbidity; particles size or phase/time division. EORC exhibited greater CR which could be a possible alternative as colorant and antioxidant in aqueous beverages
