Abstract This report describes a fatal case of mucosal disease in a two-year-old bull. For causal agent detection, scab, whole blood, and feces samples were tested by RT-PCR, PCR, ELISA, and viral isolation. RT-PCR positive amplification was obtained in blood samples for bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). Viral isolation from the scab samples confirmed BVDV as the causative agent of the clinical manifestations. Subsequently, genetic characterization based on phylogenetic analysis of three partial sequences revealed the presence of BVDV subgenotype 1b in analyzed samples. Due to the development of clinical manifestation named mucosal disease, these findings suggest the detection of BVDV persistently infected (PI) bull; therefore, these results demonstrate the importance of establishing BVDV control programs that rely on testing the presence of PI in cattle from Mexico.

Resumen El virus de la diarrea viral bovina (VDVB) genera pérdidas significativas en la producción de bovinos. Se reporta sobre un caso fatal de la enfermedad de las mucosas en un toro de dos años. Para la detección del agente causal, se analizaron muestras de lesiones, de sangre completa y de heces mediante el RT-PCR, PCR, ELISA y aislamiento viral. Se obtuvo amplificación positiva por RT-PCR en muestras de sangre para el virus de la diarrea viral bovina (VDVB). El aislamiento viral de las muestras de las lesiones confirmó que el VDVB fue el agente causal de las manifestaciones clínicas. Una caracterización genética basada en el análisis filogenético de tres secuencias parciales identificó la presencia del subgenotipo 1b del VDVB en las muestras analizadas. El animal muestreado manifestaba signos clínicos indicando que tenía la enfermedad de las mucosas, lo cual sugiere que sufría de una infección persistente (IP) por VDVB. Este hallazgo resalta la importancia de establecer programas de control de VDVB basados en probar la presencia de IP en el ganado de México.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.

Abstract Hormonal methodologies to control small ruminants’ estrous cycle are worldwide used and evolved, adjusting the application to the precise female physiological moments to enhance reproductive performance. The estrous cycle can be induced and/or synchronized, aiming for fixed-time artificial insemination, or based on estrus behavior signs for insemination, natural or guided mating. Successive protocols can be performed to resynchronize ovulation and increase reproductive outcomes in females that failed to conceive. These recently developed treatments aim to resynchronize the ovulation as earlier as non-pregnancy is detected. The present review aimed to summarize the recent advances and main findings regarding resynchronization protocols used in small ruminants. Lastly, we present future perspectives and new paths to be studied in the subject. Resumen La Ciudad de México (CDMX) enfrenta vulnerabilidad sociohidrológica (VSH) por su creciente escasez de agua. Este estudio evalúa la VSH de la Alcaldía Cuajimalpa de la CDMX. Se consideran condiciones materiales, ambientales y sociales para determinar la VSH a través de dos parámetros: estrés hídrico y capacidad adaptativa. Estos se determinaron mediante una metodología interdisciplinaria mixta, que incluye: el Método del Proceso de Jerarquía Analítica, la aplicación de una encuesta de opción múltiple y la georreferenciación de los resultados. Se identifica una VSH moderada en la Alcaldía, junto con condiciones adversas que pueden producir mayor vulnerabilidad en los próximos años.

Abstract Mexico City (CDMX) is facing socio-hydrological vulnerability (SHV) due to its increasing water scarcity. This study assesses the SHV of CDMX’s Cuajimalpa municipality, through space dynamics and territorial particularities. Material, environmental and social conditions are included in the evaluation of SHV through two parameters:, water stress and adaptive capacity. These parameters were determined through a mixed interdisciplinary methodology, which included: the Analytic Hierarchy Process Method, application of a multiple-choice survey, and georeferencing the results. In this work, we identify a moderate SHV in the municipality, along with adverse conditions that may produce greater vulnerability in coming years.

ABSTRACT Background and aims: Treatment of hepatitis C with direct antiviral agents (DAA) is associated with almost 95% of sustained virological response. However, some patients need retreatment. In Brazil, it should be done according to the Ministry of Health guidelines, frequently updated to include newly available drugs. This study aimed to conduct a national survey about the characteristics and outcomes of retreatment of hepatitis C in previously non-responders to DAAs. Patients and methods: Institutions from all over the country were invited to participate in a national registry for retreatment, including information about clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the patients, type and outcomes of retreatment regimens. Only patients previously treated with interferon-free regimens were included. Results: As previous treatments the distribution was: SOF/DCV (56%), SOF/SIM (22%), 3D (11%), SOF/LED (6%) and SOF/RBV (5%). For retreatment the most frequently used drugs were SOF/GP (46%), SOF/DCV (23%) and SOF/VEL (11%). From 159 patients retreated, 132/159 (83%) had complete information in the registry and among them only seven patients were non-responders (SVR of 94.6%). All retreatments were well tolerated, without any serious adverse events or interruptions. Conclusion: The retreatment of patients previously non-responders to DAAs was associated with high rate of SVR in this sample of Brazilian patients. This finding allows us to conclude that the retreatment options available in the public health system in Brazil are effective and safe and are an important component of the strategy of elimination of hepatitis C in our country.

Resumen El objetivo es proponer un modelo para aprovechar la cultura organizacional y el conocimiento en empresas medianas y pequeñas (Pyme´s), que fomenten su creación y uso en beneficio de la organización y hacer más eficientes los procesos productivos y de operación, así como optimizar recursos tales como: económicos, de tiempo, humanos y de conocimiento. Se analizaron diferentes trabajos encontrados en la literatura, obteniendo ideas clave para ser incluidas en la metodología desarrollada. Esta ha sido implementada en una Pyme Industrial donde se usará de apoyo una herramienta tecnológica, la cual contendrá la estructura para gestionar el conocimiento organizacional para que sea mejor aprovechado y gestionado por la empresa.

Abstract The objective is to propose a model to take advantage of the organizational culture and knowledge in medium and small companies, which promote their creation and use for the benefit of the organization and make production and operation processes more efficient, as well as optimize resources such as: economic, of time, humans and knowledge. Different literatures were analyzed, obtaining key ideas to be included in the developed methodology. This has been implemented in an Industrial SME where a technological tool will be used as support, which will contain the structure to manage organizational knowledge so that it is better used and managed by the company.

Abstract Chronic hepatitis B is an important health problem that can progress to cirrhosis and complications such as hepatocellular carcinoma. There is approximately 290 million of people with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection worldwide, however only 10% of patients are currently identified.Most part of Brazil is considered of low prevalence of HBV infection but there are some regions with higher frequency of carriers. Unfortunately, many infected patients are not yet identified nor evaluated for treatment.The Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases (SBI) and the Brazilian Society of Hepatology worked together to elaborate a guideline for diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis B. The document includes information regarding the population to be tested, diagnostic tools, indications of treatment, therapeutic schemes and also how to handle HBV infection in specific situations (pregnancy, children, immunosuppression, etc).Delta infection is also part of the guideline, since it is an important infection in some parts of the country.

ABSTRACT The research aimed to evaluate a protocol of induction of oestrous in lactating ewes with hormonal treatment of progestins and eCG with temporary weaning of lambs for artificial insemination at a fixed time by transcervical route using refrigerated semen on the presentation of oestrous and pregnancy and lambing rate. In total, 37 ewes were distributed among three treatments: T1, lactating ewes with temporary weaning (n=15); T2, lactating ewes with lamb at foot (n=10); T3, dry ewes without lamb (n=12). Temporary weaning was for 48 h prior to insemination. T1 and T3 presented a higher rate of manifest oestrous (100 and 91.66%, respectively) than T2 (60%; p<0.05). The non-return heat rate at 14-17 days post-service was statistically similar between groups (93.33, 60.0, 91.66% for T1, T2 and T3, respectively). Similarly, the pregnancy percentage by ultrasound at 45 days and the percentage of lambing showed similar values and were statistically similar (93.33, 60.0 and 66.67 and for T1, T2 and T3, respectively).

RESUMEN La investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar un protocolo de inducción de celo en borregas lactantes con tratamiento hormonal de progestágenos y eCG con destete temporal de corderos para inseminación artificial a tiempo fijo por vía transcervical con semen refrigerado sobre la presentación de celo, preñez y natalidad. Se trabajó con 37 borregas distribuidas entre tres tratamientos: T1, borregas con destete temporal de la cría (n=15); T2, borregas con cría sin destete (n=10); T3, borregas en seca y sin cría (n=12). El destete temporal fue por 48 h previos a la inseminación. T1 y T3 presentaron una mayor tasa de celo manifiesto (100 y 91.66%, respectivamente) que T2 (60%; p<0.05). La tasa de no retorno de celo a los 14-17 días pos-servicio fue estadísticamente similar entre grupos (93.33, 60.0, 91.66% para T1, T2 y T3, respectivamente). En forma similar, el porcentaje de preñez por ecografía a los 45 días y el porcentaje de natalidad tuvieron los mismos valores y fueron estadísticamente similares (93.33, 60.0 y 66.67 y para T1, T2 y T3, respectivamente).

Resumen Este trabajo se enfoca en la síntesis y la caracterización de dos sistemas ácidos obtenidos por el método de impregnación húmeda incipiente, partiendo de una sal de tungsteno y empleando a los óxidos metálicos ZrO2 y TiO2 como soportes. Los dos sistemas de catalizadores WO3/ZrO2 y WO3/TiO2 se prepararon con cargas de tungsteno de 10, 30 y 40% en peso. Para los dos tipos de catalizadores se determinaron las densidades superficiales, transiciones de fase, estructura morfológica y estabilidad térmica para cada una de las cargas de tungsteno empleadas para preparar los catalizadores. Adicionalmente, se evaluó la actividad catalítica de estos catalizadores sólidos para la hidratación de etileno a etanol en presencia de una mezcla de fases líquida y gaseosa, empleando una relación equimolar de etileno a agua a presiones entre 30 y 40bar. Los resultados revelaron que los catalizadores que presentaron un mejor desempeño alcanzando una selectividad hacia el etanol de 98%, fueron aquellos con una carga baja de tungsteno (10 % en peso) y a una presión de trabajo entre 30 y 40bar.

Abstract This work focuses on the synthesis and characterization of two acid systems obtained by the incipient wetness impregnation method, starting from a tungsten salt and using the metal oxides TiO2 and ZrO2 as supports. The two catalyst systems WO3/ZrO2 and WO3/TiO2 were prepared with loads of tungsten of 10, 30 and 40%wt. Surface densities, phase transitions, morphological structure, and thermal stability were determined for each of the tungsten loads used to prepare the catalysts. Additionally, the catalytic activity of these catalysts was evaluated for the hydration of ethylene to ethanol in the presence of a mixture of liquid and gaseous phases, using an equimolar ratio of ethylene to water at pressures from 30 to 40bar. The results revealed that the catalysts that showed a better performance, reaching a selectivity to ethanol of 98%, were those with a low load of tungsten (10%wt.) at a pressure in the range from 30 to 40bar.

Resumo Este documento estuda a síntese e caracterização de ácidos dos sistemas obtidos pelo método de impregnação incipiente a partir de uma sal de tungsténio e usando TiO2, ZrO2 e os óxidos metálicos, tais como suportes. Os dois sistemas catalisadores de WO3/ZrO2 e WO3/TiO2 foram preparados com cargas de massa de tungsténio de 10, 30 e 40%. Para os dois tipos de catalisadores sintetizados forão determinadas as densidades superficiais, as transições de fase, a estrutura morfológica e a estabilidade térmica para cada uma das cargas de tungsténio empregue foram determinados. Além disso, a actividade catalítica destes catalisadores foi avaliada na hidratação do etileno em etanol, com uma mistura de fases gasosa e líquida, utilizando uma proporção equimolar de etileno de água a pressões de entre 30 e 40bar. Os resultados revelaram que os sólidos que mostrarão um melhor desempenho melhor atingindo uma selectividade em relação ao etanol de 98% são aqueles com baixa carga de tungsténio (10% em peso) e a uma pressão de entre 30 e 40bar.

In this respect we show the effect that inequality has on household welfare that in Mexico and its regions works on tourism, for this, it relied on the concept of inequality derived from welfare as do Foster and Sen (1997) "W = μ(1-I)", and the tourism regionalization proposed by Propín and Sanchez (2002). Inequality measured by the Gini coefficient, the total income per capita adjustedconsidered for equivalence scale based on household economies. The results show that the tourist population in rural quantify levels more favorable than the urban tourist population welfare.

Resumen La importancia del turismo al crecimiento económico es reconocida a nivel mundial, sin embargo, queda la duda, en qué medida esa riqueza está impactando sobre el bienestar de los mexicanos. En este sentido, se muestra el efecto que la desigualdad tiene sobre el bienestar de los hogares que en México y sus regiones se dedican al turismo, para ello, se apoyó en la concepción de la desigualdad derivada del bienestar como lo hacen Foster y Sen (1997), "W= µ (1-I)", y en la regionalización turística propuesta por Propín y Sánchez (2002). La desigualdad se midió por el coeficiente de Gini, se consideró el ingreso total per cápita ajustado por escala de equivalencia con base en las economías del hogar. Los resultados muestran que la población que vive del turismo en lo rural cuantifica niveles de bienestar más favorables que la población turística urbana.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of first-generation protease inhibitors for the treatment of genotype 1 hepatitis C virus-infected patients at Brazilian reference centers. METHODS: This multicenter cross-sectional study included hepatitis C virus genotype 1 monoinfected patients treated with Peg-interferon, ribavirin, and either boceprevir (n=158) or telaprevir (n=557) between July 2013 and April 2014 at 15 reference centers in Brazil. Demographic, clinical, virological, and adverse events data were collected during treatment and follow-up. RESULTS: Of the 715 patients, 59% had cirrhosis and 67.1% were treatment-experienced. Based on intention-to-treat analysis, the overall sustained viral response was 56.6%, with similar effectiveness in both groups (51.9% for boceprevir and 58% for telaprevir, p=0.190). Serious adverse events occurred in 44.2% of patients, and six deaths (0.8%) were recorded. Cirrhotic patients had lower sustained viral response rates than non-cirrhotic patients (46.9% vs. 70.6%, p<0.001) and a higher incidence of serious adverse events (50.7% vs. 34.8%, p<0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that sustained viral response was associated with the absence of cirrhosis, viral recurrence after previous treatment, pretreatment platelet count greater than 100,000/mm3, and achievement of a rapid viral response. Female gender, age>65 years, diagnosis of cirrhosis, and abnormal hemoglobin levels/platelet counts prior to treatment were associated with serious adverse events. CONCLUSION: Although serious adverse events rates were higher in this infected population, sustained viral response rates were similar to those reported for other patient cohorts.

Resumen Introducción. El sueño en adolescentes está influenciado de manera especial por los estados emocionales presentes en las relaciones románticas. Esto puede ser determinante en la percepción de calidad del sueño. Objetivo. Evaluar la asociación entre la percepción de la calidad del sueño y las características de las relaciones románticas en estudiantes universitarios adolescentes y adultos jóvenes. Materiales y métodos. Estudio de corte transversal realizado en 443 sujetos. La percepción de calidad del sueño, los estilos de apego, estar en una relación romántica y sus características se determinaron utilizando medidas validadas. Resultados. La percepción de calidad del sueño se determinó utilizando cinco modelos multivariados que incluyeron características estadísticamente significativas de las relaciones románticas. El nivel de satisfacción del individuo con su relación de pareja y la atracción hacia esta se asoció con su nivel de percepción de calidad del sueño (p=0.035). La prevalencia de las relaciones románticas fue del 64% (IC95%: 59.4-68.9). Los que no estaban en una relación experimentaron latencia del sueño significativamente más prolongada (p<0.05). Conclusión. Las relaciones sentimentales románticas y sus características se asocian con la calidad de sueño percibida por los individuos. Estos aspectos pueden ser identificados e intervenidos y ser útiles para los sistemas de apoyo de las instituciones educativas.

Abstract Introduction: Sleep in adolescence is influenced by emotional states triggered by romantic relationships, which can be determinant in sleep quality perception. Objective: This study was designed to assess the association between sleep quality perception and romantic relationships, as well as its characteristics in late adolescent/young adult university students. Materials and methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in 443 subjects. Sleep quality perception was quantified using a validated diary for young persons. Individual attachment style, romantic relationship status and its characteristics were determined using specific validated measures. Results: Sleep quality perception was determined using five multivariate models that included statistically significant characteristics of romantic relationships. Higher sleep quality perception was associated with the level of satisfaction of a subject with the relationship and liking for the partner (p=0.035). The prevalence of romantic relationships in students was 64% (95%CI: 59.4-68.9). The individuals that were not in a romantic relationship experienced significantly prolonged sleep latency (p<0.05). Conclusion: Higher sleep quality perception in university students is associated with being in a romantic relationship and the attachment style. These aspects can be identified and intervened, if support systems of educational institutions recognize their potential importance for health, wellbeing and academic performance.

AbstractBackground: Upper respiratory infections are the principal cause of morbidity in children <5 years of age. The objectives of this study were (i) to develop quality-of-care indicators for evaluation of care for children with upper respiratory infections (URI) at the primary care level using data from the electronic health records and (ii) to evaluate the quality of URI care offered to children <5 years of age at family medicine clinics (FMCs).Methods: Development of indicators following the RAND-UCLA method was used. A cross-sectional analysis of quality of care provided for children with URI in four FMCs in Mexico City where 10,677 children <5 years of age with URI participated. The source of information was data from 2009 electronic health records. Quality of care was evaluated using six indicators developed in the first stage of this study.Results: The quality of care evaluation identified that only 15% of children had registries of intentional search of respiratory distress signs and 27% received information on warning signs. More than 61% of children diagnosed with uncomplicated and nonstreptococcal URI received antibiotic prescription during the first visit. In the case of children diagnosed with streptococcal pharyngitis or tonsillitis, 57.5% received the appropriate antibiotic. On average, the percentage of recommended care received was 47.2%.Conclusions: It is reasonable to promote the use of electronic health records to routinely evaluate the quality of URI care. It is necessary to consider quality flaws that were found in order to endorse strategies aimed at strengthening the technical capacity of health personnel to exercise evidence-based clinical practice.

ResumenIntroducción: Las infecciones respiratorias superiores son la principal causa de morbilidad en niños menores de cinco años. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron los siguientes: (i) desarrollar indicadores para medir la calidad de atención a niños con infecciones respiratorias superiores (IRS) en atención primaria; (ii) evaluar la calidad de la atención para IRS que los menores de cinco años reciben en clínicas de medicina familiar.Métodos: Se desarrollaron indicadores siguiendo el método RAND-UCLA. Estudio transversal de la calidad de atención en cuatro clínicas de medicina familiar en la Ciudad de México. Participaron 10,677 niños menores de cinco años con IRS. La fuente de la información fueron los registros médicos electrónicos de 2009. La calidad de la atención se determinó a través de 6 indicadores.Resultados: La evaluación de la calidad de la atención identificó que el 15% de los niños tenía registros de búsqueda intencionada de signos de dificultad respiratoria; 27% recibió información sobre las señales de alarma. Más del 61% de los niños diagnosticados con IRS no estreptocócica recibió prescripción de antibióticos durante la primera consulta. En los niños con diagnóstico de faringitis estreptocócica o amigdalitis, el 57,5% recibió el antibiótico apropiado. En promedio, el 47.2% recibió la atención recomendada.Conclusiones: Es recomendable promover el uso de los datos del expediente clínico electrónico para evaluar sistemáticamente la calidad de la atención en IRS. Es necesario considerar los problemas de calidad para diseñar las estrategias encaminadas a fortalecer la capacidad técnica del personal de salud para ejercer la práctica clínica basada en la evidencia para la atención de IRS.
