ABSTRACT ANSCOMBRE; DUCROT, 1977 VOGT; DUCROT, 1980

RESUMO Este artigo investiga, sob a perspectiva da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional, a coordenação adversativa substitutiva, em que o segundo membro coordenado – e, às vezes, o primeiro também – é expresso por sintagma ou palavra, como em cê num dá tanto valor ao ídolo, mas à música dele. Essas estruturas têm recebido pouca atenção por parte de estudos funcionalistas, com exceção da Semântica Argumentativa (ANSCOMBRE; DUCROT, 1977; VOGT; DUCROT, 1980). De acordo com a teoria aqui adotada, nessas expressões, há dois Atos Discursivos relacionados, tendo o segundo membro da coordenação molde de conteúdo Tético com um Subato. Semanticamente, ambos os membros constituem Conteúdos Proposicionais e, em última instância, predicações, em que o segundo membro apresenta molde de predicação Identificacional, Classificacional ou Relacional, formulados numa interação entre os componentes Gramatical e Contextual. Assim, o segundo membro da coordenação é expresso por um único sintagma ou palavra, que introduz a informação nova (focal), considerada pelo Falante importante para atualizar a informação pragmática do Ouvinte. Advogamos, em consonância com o modelo teórico adotado, que não há apagamento de constituintes da predicação no segundo membro, mas que o fenômeno é resultado de uma discrepância (mismatch) entre os níveis pragmático e semântico na gramática do português.

RESUMO Tomando como unidade básica de expressão linguística o ato discursivo, este estudo tem como proposta apresentar as diferentes estruturas sintáticas do português, sob o ponto de vista da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional (Hengeveld & Mackenzie, 2008). Os resultados obtidos a partir da análise de um corpus de língua falada das variedades do português (Angola, Brasil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, Portugal, São Tomé e Príncipe e Timor Leste) mostram que cada estrutura sintática é motivada por fatores pragmáticos e preenche diferentes necessidades comunicativas dos falantes.

To this end, the study uses a corpus that includes texts from different varieties of Portuguese spoken in Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Saint Thomas and Prince, and East Timor and sets the discursive act as the unit of analysis. Results show that each syntactic structure is motivated by pragmatic concerns as well as the communicative needs of the speakers.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the use of mesmo in Brazilian Portuguese, taking as theoretical support Functional Discourse Grammar, developed by Hengeveld and Mackenzie (2008). The proposal consists of investigating the multi-functionality of this linguistic item, relating it to the layers proposed by this theoretical model, with the hypothesis that the pragmatic or semantic aspect determines the codification of the Morphosyntactic Level in relation to the position in the syntactic unit (clause or phrase). Therefore, it uses private letters and official letters extracted from the corpus of the Project for the History of Brazilian Portuguese (https://sites.google.com/site/corporaphpb) as a research universe. The objectives are to verify if the different uses are morphosyntactically codified by the position they occupy in the phrase or clause domain. The results reveal that mesmo, at the Interpersonal Level, scopes Subatos, indicating the pragmatic category Emphasis or the pragmatic function Contrast and occupies the initial (PI) or final (PF) positions of the phrase; at the Representational Level, it acts either as a nucleus, always occupying the medial position (PM), or as an identity operator, positioning itself to the left of the phrase (PI+1), or even as a State of Affairs modifier, occupying, in this case, positions adjacent to the verbal word.

RESUMO Este estudo investiga o uso de mesmo no português brasileiro, tomando como suporte teórico a Gramática Discursivo-Funcional, desenvolvida por Hengeveld e Mackenzie (2008). A proposta consiste em investigar a multifuncionalidade desse item linguístico, relacionando-a às camadas propostas por esse modelo teórico, tendo como hipótese a de que propriedades pragmática ou semântica determinam a codificação no Nível Morfossintático com relação à posição na unidade sintática (oração ou sintagma). Para tanto, utiliza como universo de pesquisa cartas particulares e cartas oficiais extraídas do corpus do Projeto para a História do Português Brasileiro (https://sites.google.com/site/corporaphpb). O objetivo consiste em verificar se os diferentes usos são morfossintaticamente codificados pela posição no domínio do sintagma ou da oração. Os resultados revelam que mesmo, no Nível Interpessoal, escopa Subatos, indicando a categoria pragmática Ênfase ou a função pragmática Contraste e ocupa as posições inicial (PI) ou final (PF) do sintagma; já no Nível Representacional, atua como núcleo ocupando sempre a posição medial (PM), como operador de identidade, posiciona-se à esquerda do sintagma (PI+1), e como modificador de Estado de Coisas, assume posições adjacentes à palavra verbal.

RESUMO Norteado pelo modelo teórico da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional (Hengeveld & Mackenzie 2008), este estudo trata de orações introduzidas por como e se que, embora apresentem a forma de uma subordinada adverbial, não dependem formalmente de uma oração principal. Para isso toma como universo de investigação o Córpus Projeto Português Falado - Variedades Geográficas e Sociais. A investigação mostra que essas construções são usadas no monitoramento da interação, para reativar, na memória do interlocutor, informações dadas no discurso (construções com como), e salvaguardar a face do Falante, como estratégia de preservação de face (construções com se).

ABSTRACT In the view of the theoretical model of Functional Discourse Grammar (Hengeveld & Mackenzie 2008), this study is about clauses introduced by “como”(as) and “se”(if) that present the form of an adverbial subordinated clause although they do not formally depend from a main clause. The universe of investigation is the Corpus of Spoken Portuguese Project- Social and Geographic Varieties. The investigation shows that these constructions are used in the monitoring of the interaction, to reactivate, in the memory of the interlocutor, given information from the discourse (constructions with “como”(as) and to save the face of the Speaker, as a strategy of face preservation (constructions with “se”(if).

O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o tratamento dado à oração adjetiva pelos livros didáticos do nível fundamental, verificando como é implementada a proposta de ensino de gramática contida nos manuais do professor. Como consequência, pretende-se também relacionar alguns aspectos importantes a serem considerados no ensino da oração adjetiva. Para isso, foram selecionados cinco livros didáticos aprovados no Programa Nacional do Livro Didático-2014, que serviram de base para a análise da proposta de ensino, referente aos critérios de definição e de distinção entre oração adjetiva restritiva e explicativa. Os resultados mostram que o ensino de oração adjetiva ainda reflete os postulados da gramática tradicional e se baseia em atividades de identificação e classificação das unidades morfossintáticas, desconsiderando aspectos pragmáticos e prosódicos

This paper aims at investigating the treatment given to relative clauses by elementary school text books, evidencing how the teaching of grammar is proposed in the teacher’s books. As a consequence, this study also intends to discuss important aspects to be considered as far as the teaching of relative clauses is concerned. In order to achieve that objective, five Portuguese text books (approved by the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático-2014) were selected so that the grammar teaching proposals could be analyzed in relation to the definition and to the distinguishing criteria between defining and non-defining relative clauses. Results show that the teaching of relative clauses (as proposed by the teacher’s books) still reflects the postulates of the traditional grammar, based on activities of identification and classification of morphosyntactic units, ignoring the pragmatic and prosodic aspects

Este artigo investiga, à luz da Teoria da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional (HENGEVELD; MACKENZIE, 2008), a oração concessiva que não é subordinada a outras orações, ou seja, não apresenta relações sintáticas nem semânticas com orações anteriores ou posteriores, a que denominamos Concessiva Independente. O objetivo deste estudo consiste em descrever as propriedades discursivas, semânticas, morfossintáticas e prosódicas desse tipo de estrutura, mostrando que sua relevância está na construção e organização do discurso. Os resultados apontam que a Concessiva Independente funciona, no discurso, como um parêntese, que interrompe o fio discursivo, sendo, então, destacado por um contorno prosódico especial, aliado à presença de Atos Interativos. Constitui, portanto, um Movimento, a camada mais alta do Nível Interpessoal, nível que se relaciona aos aspectos pragmáticos da gramática de uma língua. O universo de investigação utilizado é o córpus Iboruna, um banco de dados que registra a variedade do português do noroeste paulista.

This paper investigates, in light of the theory of Functional Discourse Grammar (HENGEVELD; MACKENZIE, 2008), the concessive clause that is not subordinated to other clauses, i.e., it has no semantic or syntactic relations with clauses before or after it, and which we call Independent Concessive. The aim is to describe the discursive properties and the semantic, morphosyntactic and prosodic structure of this type of clause, showing that its relevance is in the construction and organization of discourse. The results indicate that the Independent Concessive works in speech as a parenthesis which interrupts the discursive course and is then highlighted by a special prosodic contour, combined with the presence of Interactive Acts. It is therefore a Move, the highest layer of the Interpersonal Level, the level that relates to the pragmatic aspects of the grammar of a language. The universe of research used is the Iboruna corpus, a database that records a variety of Portuguese from the Northwest of São Paulo.

Este estudo trata de estruturas denominadas clivagem ou construções-(é)que, em oito variedades portuguesas, objetivando mostrar que as diferenças formais correspondem a diferentes estratégias utilizadas pelo Falante para atingir seus objetivos comunicativos, ou seja, Foco, Contraste e Ênfase, de acordo com a teoria da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional (Hengeveld e Mackenzie, 2008). Para isso toma como material de análise ocorrências reais de uso extraídas do corpus oral organizado pelo Centro de Linguística da Universidade de Lisboa, em parceria com a Universidade de Toulouse-le-Mirail e a Universidade de Provença-Aix-Marselha. A análise dos dados lusófonos revela que clivagem constitui uma estratégia de marcação da função pragmática Contraste; construções de Foco-Ser, por outro lado, são usadas para focalizar um constituinte; (é) que, por sua vez, constitui um operador de Ênfase, já que assinala o desejo do Falante de intensificar partes de informação.

This paper deals with so called cleft constructions and other similar structures in eight Portuguese varieties, aiming to show that the formal differences correspond to different functional strategies used by the Speaker to achieve his/her communicative intentions, i.e., Focus, Contrast and Emphasis, in accordance with the theory of Functional Discourse Grammar (Hengeveld and Mackenzie, 2008). This study takes as evidence real spoken occurrences extracted from a corpus organized by Linguistic Centre at the University of Lisbon, in partnership with the University of Toulousse Mirail and the University of Provence-Aix-Marseille. The results show the following distribution: cleft construction is a strategy for pragmatic function Contrast marking; Focus-ser constructions are used to highlight a constituent and (é) que is used as an operator of emphasis the speaker's desire to intensify certain pieces of information

A ordenação de constituintes oracionais nas variedades portuguesas é aqui tratada considerando-se três moldes de conteúdo, Tético, Apresentativo e Categorial. A linearização das estruturas oracionais refletem decisões assumidas na formulação do Nível Interpessoal e configuram predominantemente Molde de Conteúdo Categorial Tópico-orientado, com o constituinte Tópico ocupando a posição P I, a palavra verbal, a posição P M, e os outros constituintes, as posições à direita e à esquerda de P M. Em Construções Téticas, a oração toda, por ser focal, ocupa o domínio de P F, já em Construções Apresentativas a cópula vazia assume a posição absoluta P M, e o sintagma nominal Tópico/Foco posiciona-se em P F.

The ordering of clausal constituents in Portuguese varieties is treated here considering three content frames recognized in FDG model, thetic, presentative and categorical. The clausal linearization reflects decisions taken in the formulation of the Interpersonal Level and predominantly represents Topic-oriented content frame in which the constituent in the Topic function occupies the position P I, the verb, the P M position, and other remaining constituents occupy the left and right positions of P M. Thetic constructions, whose whole clause performs focal and topical function, occupies the P F area, while presentative constructions have the grammatical word 'copula' taking the absolute position P M and the Topic/Focus Noun phrase taking the P F position.

Este estudo limita-se ao exame do conector então no português falado culto do Brasil. O objetivo é fornecer uma descrição detalhada do comportamento sintático-semântico desse juntor e verificar se já se gramaticalizou como conjunção. O universo de pesquisa é uma amostragem do corpus mínimo do Projeto de Gramática do Português Falado (PGPF). O texto se organiza em quatro partes. Na primeira colocam-se os objetivos em face das hipóteses de trabalho; na segunda apresentam-se os procedimentos metodológicos e técnicas de investigação; a terceira parte constitui uma descrição do uso desse conector no português falado e, nas considerações finais, resumem-se as principais conseqüências para um equacionamento mais preciso da relação de conclusão obtida por meio do conector então.

This study consists of an examination of the connector então in Brazilian formal spoken Portuguese. The objective is to arrive at a detailed description of the syntatical and semantic behavior of this joining word and to ascertain whether it has already become grammaticalized as a conjunction. The research base is a sample of the minimum corpus of the Spoken Portuguese Grammar Project (PGPF). The text is organised in four parts. In the first, the objectives are set out in relation to the hypotheses underpinning the work; on the second, the methodological procedures and investigative techniques are presented; the third part consists of a description of the use of this conector in spoken Portuguese, and the concluding remaks summarise the principal consequences for a more precise equating of the conclusive relationship obtained by means of the connector então.

Com base no princípio de que a motivação cognitiva perpassa todos os níveis da gramática de uma língua, este trabalho tem como principal objetivo explorar a hipótese de que os processos coordenativos de conjunção e disjunção resultam de uma transferência perceptual de mecanismos comuns de repetição. Mediante uma análise multifuncional da coordenação, demonstra-se que a ligação de termos é o modelo que ativa os processos de ligação de orações em que os juntores aditivo e alternativo estabelecem relações de conteúdo no nível ideacional e relações epistêmicas e ilocucionárias no nível interacional.

Based on the principle that the cognitive motivation pervades all levels of the grammar of a language, the basic aim of this paper is to explore the hypothesis that the coordenative processes of conjunction and disjunction result from a perceptual-cognitive transference of common mechanisms of repetition. By means of a multifunctional analysis of coordination, it is showed that term conection is the model that activates sentence conection processes at which additive and alternative junctives establish content relations at ideational level, and epistemic and speech act relations at the interactional level.

O objetivo deste trabalho é fornecer uma interpretação funcional para a ordem de constituintes da sentença do português falado no Brasil (PB). Segundo a metodologia aqui adotada, as generalizações de natureza sintática decorrem necessariamente de generalizações de natureza semântica e pragmática. Os dados constituem uma amostragem representativa de sentenças do português falado, extraída de inquéritos do Projeto NURC. Como enfoque funcional prevê a coexistência de diferentes padrões de ordenação de constituintes, usados em diferentes condições e para diferentes propósitos, postula-se que o PB dispõe de dois padrões igualmente relevantes: a ordem SVO e a ordem VSO, ambos pragmaticamente motivados. Argumenta-se ainda que tais motivações pragmáticas relaciona, diacronicamente, os padrões funcionais em uso a uma mudança em curso na classificação tipológica do PB de um tipo primitivo VSO para o tipo SVO atualmente predominante.

The aim of this paper is to provide a functional interpretation for sentence word order of spoken Brazilian Portuguese (BP). According to the methodology adopted, generalisations of syntactic nature result necessarily from generalisations of semantic and pragmatic nature. The data constitute a representative sentence sampling of spoken Portuguese, drawn from interviews recorded by NURC Project. Since the functional approach considers the co-existence of different word order patterns, used in different conditions and for different purposes, this paper postulates that BP is endowed with two patterns, both equally relevant and pragmatically motivated: SVO and VSO order. It is also argued that such pragmatic motivations relate both patterns diachronically to a possible change in progress in BP typological classification that follows from a primitive VSO type to the actually prevailing SVO type.
