Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy of hypertonic saline infiltration as a sclerosing agent in the dorsal synovial cyst of the wrist. Method Patients of both genders, aged 18 years or older, with clinical and ultrasound diagnosis of synovial cyst, and without any previous treatment were selected. Case series in which 50 patients underwent aspiration of the contents of the cyst and infiltration of the hypertonic saline solution (2 ml sodium chloride solution 20% and 1 ml of lidocaine 2%). The patients were followed up for 24 weeks, when the parameters pain, strength, range of motion, function (quickDASH and Brief Michigan question), recurrence, and complications were evaluated. Results A total of 46 patients were evaluated for 24 weeks, 18 (39.1%) cysts evolved to resolution, and 28 (60.9%) presented recurrence. There was no statistically significant difference in the effect force or in the range of motion. There was no clinically significant difference in the scores of the questionnaires. The most frequent complications were pain and edema. Conclusion Infiltration with hypertonic saline solution for the treatment of dorsal synovial cyst of the wrist showed a recurrence rate of 60.9%.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a eficácia da infiltração da solução salina hipertônica como agente esclerosante no cisto sinovial dorsal do punho. Método Pacientes de ambos os sexos, com 18 anos ou mais, com diagnóstico clínico e ultrassonográfico de cisto sinovial, e sem nenhum tratamento prévio foram selectionados. Série de casos em que 50 pacientes foram submetidos a aspiração do conteúdo do cisto e infiltração da solução salina hipertônica (2 ml solução de cloreto de sódio 20% e 1 ml de lidocaína 2%). Seguimento realizado por 24 semanas, durante as quais foram avaliados os parâmetros dor, força, arco de movimento, função (questionários quick disabilities of the arm, hand, and shoulder [quickDASH] e brief Michigan), recorrência e complicações. ResultadoForam avaliados 46 pacientes por 24 semanas, 18 (39,1%) cistos evoluíram para cura e 28 (60,9%) cistos apresentaram recorrência. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante nos quesitos força e arco de movimento. Não houve diferença clinicamente significante nos escores dos questionários. As complicações mais frequentes foram dor e edema. Conclusão A infiltração com solução salina hipertônica para tratamento do cisto sinovial dorsal do punho mostrou taxa de recorrência de 60,9%.

Abstract The mixed wheat and bocaiuva (Acrocomia totai) flour allow the development of new products to meet the consumer demand for foods with a healthy and functional appeal. Our study aimed to evaluate the physical-chemical and rheological quality of mixed flours during storage. Mixed flours with 10 and 20% replacement of wheat flour with bocaiuva flour were conditioned in impermeable films to water vapor, oxygen and light and stored at ambient temperature for up to 120 days. Flours were submitted to periodical physical-chemical and rheological analyses. Moisture stayed within the legal limit, and water activity was considered adequate to inhibit microbial growth. Titrable acidity increased in the first 30 days of storage. Adding 20% of bocaiuva to the wheat flour enriched the mixture with twice the carotenoids and higher total phenol content. The bioactive compounds showed a slight reduction during storage. The mixed flour can be indicated for elaborating bread, loaf, pasta, cakes and biscuits. The falling numbers point to the need for correcting the flour by adding enzymes to produce fermented foods.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of two different types of resistance training programming (linear and daily undulating) on submaximal strength and functional capacity in elderly women. Twenty-two participants (64 ± 3 years) were randomly assigned to 2 training groups: linear programming (LP; n=12) and daily undulating programming (DUP; n =10). Functional capacity and submaximal strength (10RM) were analyzed before and after 12 weeks of resistance training. The results demonstrated improvement on strength and functional capacity after the resistance training period (p ≤ 0.05), except for the Bench Press (p = 0.30), for both groups DUP and LP. The Effect Size was, respectively, high for DUP (timed up and go test = -2.07, and timed sit test= 4.69), and high for LP (horizontal leg press = 2.35). For all other results, the effect size was trivial or small. No statistical difference was observed between programming models. The LP and DUP trainnings have similar results in increasing submaximal muscle strength in elderly women inexperienced in RT after 12 weeks of intervention (p ≤ 0,05). However, DUP appears to be more effective in increasing functional capacity. In practice, the professional can use both the LP and the DUP to improve the level of fitness in the early stages of training in this population. However, when the goal of programming is to increase functional capacity, DUP can be prioritized.

Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar o efeito de dois tipos diferentes de programação do treinamento de força (linear e ondulatório diário) na força submáxima e na capacidade funcional de mulheres idosas. Vinte e duas participantes (64 ± 3 anos) foram randomizados em 2 grupos experimentais: programação linear (PL; n=12) e programação ondulatória diária (POD; n=10). A capacidade funcional e a força submáxima (10RM) foram avaliadas antes e depois das 12 semanas de treinamento de força. Os resultados demonstraram melhora da força submáxima e da capacidade funcional após o período de treinamento (p ≤ 0,05), exceto para o exercício supino (p = 0,30), para ambos os grupos POD e PL. Foi encontrado um tamanho de efeito grande para a POD nos testes de sentar e caminhar = -2,07 e teste de sentar e levantar = 4,69, bem como na PL para o exercício leg press horizontal = 2,35. Não foi observada diferença estatística entre os modelos de programação. As programações LP e DUP têm resultados semelhantes no aumento da força muscular submáxima em mulheres idosas inexperientes em TR após 12 semanas de intervenção (p ≤ 0,05). No entanto, o DUP parece ser mais eficaz para aumentar a capacidade funcional. Na prática, o profissional pode usar tanto o LP quanto o DUP para melhorar o nível de condicionamento físico nos estágios iniciais do treinamento nessa população. Porém, quando o objetivo da programação é aumentar a capacidade funcional, o DUP pode ser priorizado.

ABSTRACT Permanent canines are essential for the preservation of the stomatognathic system, as they are part of the occlusal and aesthetic function and balance. During the normal development of occlusion, canines follow a long and complex trajectory until their eruption, that is, they are more likely to suffer disturbances during this process. Removal of the permanent canine should only be considered in extreme cases, where the canine itself is not susceptible to orthodontic traction. Orthodontic traction is the most indicated treatment due to the high morphofunctional and aesthetic value of the permanent canine. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case of traction surgery of the superior permanent canine included in the maxilla. A 13-year-old female patient attended the dental clinic at the Nilton Lins University accompanied by her guardian, referred by an orthodontistfor canine traction surgery. during the examIn the clinical analysis, tooth 13 was absent from the dental arch. The patient had a computed tomography scan, where it was possible to verify the actual position of the toothimpacted with the partially erupted crown on the alveolar ridge. After planning, surgery was performed to install an orthodontic button and adapt the ligature with a 0.30 mm wire. After the 10-month follow-up period, the presence of the tooth in arch, completely erupted, was observed, showing effectiveness in the proposed treatment. Therefore, the procedure for bonding the orthodontic device was performed satisfactorily without complications or intercurrences, making it possible to continue the orthodontic treatment. The patient remains under follow-up.

RESUMO Os caninos permanentes são essenciais para a preservação do sistema estomatognático, visto que, fazem parte da função e equilíbrio oclusal e estético. Durante o desenvolvimento normal da oclusão, os caninos seguem uma longa e complexa trajetória até seu irrompimento, ou seja, estão mais propensos a sofrerem distúrbios no decorrer desse processo. A extração do canino permanente só deve ser considerada em casos extremos, onde o próprio não se encontra suscetível à tração ortodôntica. O tracionamento ortodôntico é o tratamento mais indicado devido ao alto valor morfofuncional e estético do canino permanente. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo é relatar um caso clínico de cirurgia de tracionamento de canino permanente superior incluso em maxila. Paciente de 13 anos, gênero feminino, compareceu a clínica odontológica da Universidade Nilton Lins acompanhado de seu responsável, encaminhada por um ortodontista para cirurgia de tracionamento de canino. Durante o exame clínico observou-se ausência do dente 13 na arcada dentária. A paciente apresentou a tomografia computadorizada, onde foi possível verificar o real posicionamento do dente impactado com a coroa parcialmente irrompida no rebordo alveolar. Após o planejamento, realizou-se a cirurgia destinada a instalação de botão ortodôntico e adaptação da amarrilha com fio 0,30 mm. Posteriormente ao período de acompanhamento de 10 meses, observou-se a presença do dente em arco, totalmente erupcionado, mostrando efetividade no tratamento proposto. Portando, o procedimento de colagem de dispositivo ortodôntico ocorreu de forma satisfatória sem complicações ou intercorrências, tornando possível a continuidade do tratamento ortodôntico. A paciente permanece em acompanhamento.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare heart rate variability (HRV) between patients with chronic neck pain and patients with chronic low back pain and to correlate the chronic pain variables with heart rate variability indices. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study. We divided the sample into two groups: neck pain (n=30) and low back pain (n=30). We used the Numeric Pain Rating Scale, Neck Disability Index, Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire, Pain-Related Catastrophizing Thoughts Scale, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, and Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire. For heart rate variability analysis, we used the following indices: mean RR, standard deviation of all RR intervals, mean heart rate, root mean square differences of successive RR intervals, triangular index, triangular interpolation of the interval histogram, low-frequency band in arbitrary units and in absolute values, high-frequency band in arbitrary units and in absolute values, standard deviation of the instantaneous beat-to-beat variability (standard deviation 1), long-term standard deviation of continuous RR intervals (standard deviation 2), and Stress Index. We used Student’s t-test for comparisons and Spearman’s coefficient for correlations. RESULTS: We observe insignificant values in the differences between the groups. Disability and self-efficacy were correlated with heart rate variability only in patients with chronic neck pain, whereas catastrophizing and kinesiophobia showed greater correlations with heart rate variability in patients with chronic low back pain. CONCLUSIONS: Autonomic dysfunction of individuals with chronic neck pain, when compared to patients with chronic low back pain, does present insignificant differences.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Lung transplantation (LTx) has been discussed as an option for treating irreversible lung fibrosis post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), in selected cases. OBJECTIVES: To report on the initial experience and management of end-stage lung disease due to COVID-19 at a national center reference in Brazil. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cohort study conducted at a national reference center for lung transplantation. METHODS: Medical charts were reviewed regarding patients’ demographics and pre-COVID-19 characteristics, post-LTx due to COVID-19. RESULTS: Between March 2020 and September 2021, there were 33 cases of LTx. During this period, we evaluated 11 cases of severe COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) that were potentially candidates for LTx. Among these, LTx was only indicated for three patients (9.1%). All of these patients were on venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and the procedure that they underwent was central venoarterial ECMO. All three patients were still alive after the first 30 postoperative days. However, patient #1 and patient #2 subsequently died due to fungal sepsis on the 47th and 52nd postoperative days, respectively. Patient #3 was discharged on the 30th postoperative day. CONCLUSIONS: LTx is feasible among these complex patients. Survival over the first 30 days was 100%, and this favors surgical feasibility. Nonetheless, these were critically ill patients.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a prevalência de pacientes vítimas de trauma motociclístico que estavam sob efeito de álcool e drogas. Métodos: Estudo observacional e prospectivo, com pacientes internados na Enfermaria de Ortopedia e Traumatologia do Hospital São Paulo (Unifesp), de março de 2015 a março de 2016. Foram incluídos pacientes de ambos os sexos, idade superior a 18 anos, internados por trauma motociclístico e que necessitavam de tratamento cirúrgico ortopédico. Resultados: Durante a pesquisa, foram internados 282 pacientes, dos quais 23,8% eram vítimas de trauma motociclístico. Desses, 49,3% motociclistas referiram o uso de álcool e drogas previamente ao sinistro, enquanto 50,7% negaram o consumo. Na análise do consumo de álcool e drogas nos pacientes de traumas motociclísticos, foi observado que 65% estavam sob efeito apenas de álcool, 16% estavam sob efeito de álcool e drogas, e 19% sob efeito de drogas ilícitas. Conclusão: A incidência de pacientes que sofreram acidentes motociclísticos sob efeito de álcool e drogas foi de 49,3%. Nível de Evidência IV, Série de Casos Prospectivos.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the prevalence of patients who were victims of motorcycle trauma who were under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Methods: The study was observational and prospective, with patients hospitalized to the Orthopedics and Traumatology Ward of Hospital São Paulo (UNIFESP), from March 2015 to March 2016. The study included patients of all genders, over 18 years old, hospitalized due to motorcycle trauma and who needed orthopedic surgical treatment. Results: During the research, 282 patients were hospitalized, of which 23.8% were victims of motorcycle trauma. Of these, 49.3% motorcyclists reported the use of alcohol and drugs before the accident, while 50.7% denied their consumption. In the analysis of alcohol and drug consumption in patients with motorcycle injuries, the results showed that: 65% used only alcohol; 16% used both alcohol and drugs; and 19% used only illicit drugs. Conclusion: The incidence of patients who suffered motorcycle accidents under the influence of alcohol and drugs was 49.3%. Level of Evidence IV, Prospective Case Series.

Nos anos 2000 e 2010 houve expansão e concentração do varejo farmacêutico e crescente financeirização no setor saúde. O artigo analisa as expressões da financeirização em empresas do varejo farmacêutico brasileiro considerando três dimensões transversais: patrimonial, contábil-financeira e política. Foram analisados dados quantitativos e qualitativos de variadas fontes sobre as dimensões patrimonial e contábil das 10 maiores redes de farmácias brasileiras e à dimensão política da ação de quatro entidades representativas do subsetor. As informações coletadas foram reunidas no banco de dados da pesquisa fonte (Banco de Dados sobre Empresariamento na Saúde - BDES). Na dimensão patrimonial, identificou-se verticalização, diversificação, capitalização por operações financeiras e patrimoniais, intensificação de fusões e aquisições, abertura de farmácias, entrada de investidores, mudanças na gestão e organização interna. Na contábil-financeira, constatou-se aumento de porte (receitas, ativos, patrimônio) e bom desempenho (retorno sobre capital próprio, giro do ativo e capitais de terceiros) das redes em comparação à empresas brasileiras e da saúde. Na política houve embates e colaborações entre entidades e o poder público (Executivo, Legislativo e Judiciário) a depender da pauta, com desfechos geralmente favoráveis ao subsetor e protagonismo da Associação Brasileira de Farmácias e Drogarias (Abrafarma). A financeirização do padrão de acumulação de empresas do varejo farmacêutico e o fortalecimento de sua atuação política se mostraram relevantes para compreensão das mudanças na provisão de medicamentos e no setor farmacêutico.

The provision of medicines in Brazil is marked by the predominance of private expenditures and supply in pharmacies and by the historically liberal regulation of retail drug sales. The first two decades of the 21st century witnessed the expansion and concentration of the retail pharmaceutical sector and growing financialization of the health sector. The article analyzes the characteristics of financialization of Brazilian retail pharmaceutical companies, considering the following three crosscutting dimensions: ownership structure, financial/accounting, and political. Quantitative and qualitative data from various sources were analyzed including ownsership and account informations of the ten biggest Brazilian retail pharmacies chains and political action of four business associations. The information collected was stored in the source project database. The ownership structure dimension revealed verticalization, diversification, capitalization via financial and shareholding operations, intensification of mergers and acquisitions, opening of pharmacy branches, entry of investors, and changes in internal management and organization. The financial/accounting dimension revealed an increase in size (revenues, assets, net worth) and good performance (return on equity capital, capital turnover, and third-party capital) of the networks compared to Brazilian companies and health companies. The policy arena revealed both clashes and collaborations between representative associations and government (Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary), depending on the issue, with outcomes that were generally favorable to the pharmaceutical sector and leadership by the Brazilian Association of Pharmacy and Drugstore Networks (Abrafarma). The financialization of the retail pharmaceutical companies’ accumulation pattern and the strengthening of their political action proved relevant for understanding the changes in the provision of medicines and in the pharmaceutical market.

En Brasil la provisión de medicamentos está marcada por el predominio de los gastos y oferta privada en farmacias, así como por la regulación históricamente liberal sobre su comercialización. En los años 2000 y 2010 hubo una expansión y concentración de la red minorista farmacéutica y una creciente financiarización en el sector salud. El artículo analiza las expresiones de la financiarización en empresas de la red minorista farmacéutica brasileña, considerando tres dimensiones transversales: patrimonial, contable-financiera y política. Se analizaron datos cuantitativos y cualitativos de variadas fuentes, reunidos en el banco de datos del estudio fuente, relacionados con las dimensiones patrimonial y contable de las diez mayores redes de farmacias brasileñas, y con la dimensión de la actuación política de cuatro entidades representativas del subsector. Abstract BRS TR271 is a new wheat cultivar released by Embrapa for Brazilian wheat-growing regions 1 and 2 of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná. It has high grain yield potential and a super-early cycle. It is widely adapted and is classified as bread wheat.

BACKGROUND Leprosy is curable by multidrug therapy (MDT) treatment regimen ranging from six to 12 months. The variable levels of tolerance and adherence among patients can, however, result in treatment failure and the emergence of drug-resistant strains. OBJECTIVES Describe the impact of MDT over Mycobacterium leprae viability in patient’s oral and nasal mucosa along treatment. METHODS Mycobacterium leprae viability was monitored by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) quantification of 16S rRNA in lateral and contralateral scrapings of oral and nasal mucosa of 10 multibacillary patients along the initial five months of treatment. FINDINGS The results demonstrated high heterogenicity of M. leprae viability among patients and between nasal and oral samples. Of six patients who presented good adherence and tolerance to the treatment, only four displayed absence of M. leprae viability in both samples three months after the first MDT dose, while for the other two, the absence of M. leprae viability in the oral and nasal cavities was only detected five months after the first dose. MAIN CONCLUSIONS We concluded that qPCR of 16S rRNA for the determination of M. leprae viability in nasal and oral scraping samples could represent an interesting approach to monitor treatment efficacy.

Resumo Fundamento O interesse pela hipertensão em crianças e adolescentes aumentou desde a atualização do sistema de classificação da pressão arterial para comparar com o sistema de classificação dos adultos, alterando a terminologia de “normal alta” para “pré-hipertensão”. Objetivo O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a associação da modulação autonômica cardíaca com os níveis pressóricos dos adolescentes. Métodos 203 adolescentes foram agrupados de acordo com a pressão arterial sistólica (PAS) e a pressão arterial diastólica (PAD). Um grupo foi caracterizado como pré-hipertensão, e o outro como normotenso. Foram coletadas características antropométricas, cardiovasculares e de qualidade do sono. Inicialmente, os dados foram submetidos ao teste de normalidade Kolmogorov-Smirnov . As variáveis quantitativas contínuas foram analisadas por meio do teste T de Student não pareado. Para análise das variáveis categóricas, foi utilizado o teste qui-quadrado. Um modelo de regressão logística foi realizado. O nível de significância estabelecido foi p<0,05. Os dados foram expressos como média ± desvio padrão e intervalo de confiança. O software R foi utilizado para análise dos dados. O tamanho do efeito foi calculado com a fórmula de Cohen. Resultados O grupo pré-hipertensão apresentou aumento da entropia de Shannon e diminuição da variância total. Além disso, no modelo de regressão logística, os adolescentes deste grupo tiveram 1,03 mais chances de ter a entropia de Shannon afetada quando a PAS foi ajustada ao gênero, maturação sexual, tempo escolar, idade, circunferência da cintura e qualidade do sono. Conclusão Nossos dados mostram que a modulação autonômica pode desempenhar um papel importante no desenvolvimento da pressão arterial elevada em adolescentes ao controlar fatores como tempo escolar e qualidade do sono.

Abstract Background The interest regarding hypertension among children and adolescents has increased since the blood pressure rating system was updated to be compared with the adult rating system, changing the terminology from “normal high” to “prehypertension”. Objective This study aimed to analyze the association between cardiac autonomic modulation and pressure levels of adolescents. Methods 203 adolescents were grouped according to systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). One group was characterized as prehypertension, and the other as normotensive. Anthropometric, cardiovascular and sleep quality characteristics were collected. Initially, the data were submitted to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test. Continuous quantitative variables were analyzed using the unpaired Student t-test. For the analysis of categorical variables, a chi-square test was used. A logistic regression model was performed. The level of significance was set at p<0.05. The data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation and confidence interval. The R software was used for data analysis. The effect size was calculated using the Cohen’s formula. Results The prehypertension group showed an increase in Shannon entropy and a decrease in total variance. Also, in the logistic regression model, adolescents in this group were 1.03 times more likely to have Shannon entropy’s affected when SBP was adjusted for gender, sexual maturation, school time, age, waist circumference, and sleep quality. Conclusion Our data show that autonomic modulation may play an important role in the development of elevated blood pressure in adolescents, when controlling for other factors, such as school time and sleep quality.

Resumo Fundamentos A síndrome de Heyde é a associação de estenose aórtica importante com episódio de sangramento gastrointestinal por lesões angiodisplásicas. Pouco é conhecido sobre os fatores associados a novos sangramentos e desfechos em longo prazo. Além disso, a maioria dos dados é restrita a relatos de casos e pequenas séries. Objetivo Avaliar o perfil clínico, laboratorial e ecocardiográfico de pacientes com síndrome de Heyde submetidos a intervenção valvar ou tratamento medicamentoso. Métodos Coorte prospectiva de 24 pacientes consecutivos entre 2005 e 2018. Foram avaliados dados clínicos, laboratoriais, ecocardiográficos e relacionados à intervenção valvar e a desfechos após o diagnóstico. Valor de p<0,05 foi considerado estatisticamente significante. Resultados Metade dos 24 pacientes apresentou sangramento com necessidade de transfusão sanguínea na admissão. Angiodisplasias foram encontradas mais frequentemente no cólon ascendente (62%). Intervenção valvar (cirúrgica ou transcateter) foi realizada em 70,8% dos pacientes, e 29,2% foram mantidos em tratamento clínico. Novos episódios de sangramento ocorreram em 25% dos casos, e não houve diferença entre os grupos clínico e intervenção (28,6 vs. 23,5%, p=1,00; respectivamente). A mortalidade no seguimento de 2 e 5 anos foi de 16% e 25%, sem diferença entre os grupos (log-rank p = 0,185 e 0,737, respectivamente). Conclusões Pacientes com síndrome de Heyde tiveram alta taxa de sangramento com necessidade de transfusão sanguínea na admissão, sugerindo ser uma doença grave e com risco elevado de mortalidade. Não encontramos diferenças entre os grupos submetidos ao tratamento clínico e à intervenção valvar em relação a taxas de ressangramento e mortalidade tardia.

Abstract Background Heyde’s syndrome is the association of severe aortic stenosis with episodes of gastrointestinal bleeding due to angiodysplastic lesion. Little is known about the factors associated with new episodes of bleeding and long-term outcomes. Furthermore, most data are restricted to case reports and small case series. Objective To assess the clinical, laboratory and echocardiography profile of patients with Heyde’s syndrome who underwent valve intervention or drug therapy. Methods Prospective cohort of 24 consecutive patients from 2005 to 2018. Clinical, laboratory and echocardiography data were assessed, as well as those related to valve intervention and outcomes after diagnosis. A P <0.05 was used to indicate statistical significance. Results Half of the 24 patients presented with bleeding requiring blood transfusion on admission. Angiodysplasias were more frequently found in the ascending colon (62%). Valve intervention (surgical or transcatheter) was performed in 70.8% of the patients, and 29.2% remained on drug therapy. News episodes of bleeding occurred in 25% of the cases, and there was no difference between clinical and intervention groups (28.6 vs 23.5%, p = 1.00; respectively). Mortality at 2-year and 5-year was 16% and 25%, with no difference between the groups (log-rank p = 0.185 and 0.737, respectively). Conclusions Patients with Heyde’s syndrome had a high rate of bleeding requiring blood transfusion on admission, suggesting that it is a severe disease with high mortality risk. No difference was found between clinical and intervention group regarding the rate of rebleeding and late mortality.

RESUMO A história da haste intramedular bloqueada nas fraturas do fêmur se inicia com os Astecas no século 16, mas o uso moderno que a tornou o padrão ouro no tratamento destas fraturas se inicia com Gerald Kuntcher em 1939. Do estudo inicial de Kutcher até o desenvolvimento da haste bloqueada muitos pequenos desenvolvimentos foram descritos ao redor do mundo. Dentro deste desenvolvimento, a primeira haste a ter um controle vertical e rotacional foi descrito por Flavio Pires de Camargo, e nunca foi publicado em um jornal indexado que permita sua correta referência histórica. ABSTRACT Femoral Shaft intramedullary nails were first described by the Aztecs in 16th century, but the modern use of intramedullary nails as the gold standard treatment for femoral shaft fractures began with Gerald Kuntcher in 1939. From the first Kuntcher’s study in 1939, to the creation of interlocking nail, a long and some minor developments were described around the world. However, a major development is missing: the first nail to have a rotational and vertical stability locking system was described by Flavio Godoy Moreira, but was never published on an indexed journal for the correct historical reference. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the structural validity of the Brazilian version of the Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ). METHODS: Individuals with chronic low back pain were included. The data collection of the study occurred by means of online platform. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed. The theoretical version proposed for the JOABPEQ with five domains was tested. The following indices were considered to verify the fit of the model: comparative fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), and chi-square/degrees of freedom (DF). RESULTS: The final sample consisted of 175 volunteers, mostly women (68%), adults (mean age of 28.98 years), lean (mean body mass index of 25 kg/m2), with incomplete higher education, single, with mean of pain chronicity of 61.50 months and mean of pain intensity of 6.78 points on the Numeric Pain Scale. Regarding the structure of the JOABPEQ, the original version with five domains was adequate: chi-square/DF=1.52, CFI=0.954, TLI=0.948, and RMSEA=0.055. The factorial load ranges from 0.41 to 0.90. CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the structure of JOABPEQ with 5 domains (low back pain, lumbar function, walking ability, social life function, and mental health) and 25 items in individuals with chronic low back pain.
