Occurrence of clinical laminitis after adaptation to confinement: effects on morphology, density, and mineral composition of the hoof of Nellore cattle after finishing

ABSTRACT: Laminitis is a disease that affects the dermis and epidermis of the bovine hoof, generating changes in the hoof capsule. This study evaluated the effects of clinical laminitis diagnosed after the adaptation phase to confinement on the morphology, density, and mineral composition of the hoof of Nellore cattle after finishing. The animals were separated in the first weeks of confinement into a sick group (SG), with clinical laminitis, and a healthy group (HG). SG animals had higher heel length, dorsal wall length, toe height, and diagonal hoof length (p<0.05) than healthy animals. The dermal laminae had similar measurements for thickness, length, and spacing between them between SG and HG. Animals with laminitis showed congestion, hemorrhage, and basement membrane irregularities on histology. Computed microtomography (μCT) revealed that the hoof density of sick animals is lower than healthy ones. According to the mineral composition by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) spectrometry, the hooves of animals with laminitis (SG) and healthy ones (HG) were not biochemically different. Therefore, the occurrence of clinical laminitis in Nellore cattle in the first weeks of confinement causes an increase in the morphometric parameters of the hoof capsule and a reduction in the density of the abaxial hoof wall evaluated after the finishing period. This disease does not promote changes in the histomorphometric parameters of the dermal laminae and the percentage of minerals in the abaxial hoof wall.
RESUMO: A laminite é uma doença que afeta a derme e epiderme do casco de bovinos gerando alterações no estojo córneo. O estudo avaliou os efeitos da laminite clínica diagnosticada após a fase de adaptação ao confinamento na morfologia, densidade e composição mineral do casco de bovinos da raça Nelore após terminação. Nas primeiras semanas de confinamento, os animais foram separados em um grupo doente (GD) com laminite clínica e em um grupo saudável (GS). Os animais do GD apresentaram maior comprimento de talão, comprimento da parede dorsal, altura da pinça e comprimento diagonal do casco (p<0,05) do que os saudáveis. As lâminas dérmicas tiveram medidas semelhantes para espessura, comprimento e espaçamento entre elas entre GD e GS. Animais doentes apresentaram congestão, hemorragia e irregularidades da membrana basal na histologia. A microtomografia computadorizada (μCT) revelou que a densidade do casco de animais doentes é menor do que o saudável. Para a composição mineral por meio da espectrometria de fluorescência de raio-X por dispersão de energia (ED-XRF), o casco dos animais doentes (GD) e dos saudáveis (GS), não se mostraram diferentes bioquimicamente. Conclui-se que a ocorrência de laminite clínica em bovinos da raça Nelore nas primeiras semanas de confinamento ocasiona aumento de parâmetros morfométricos do estojo córneo e redução da densidade da parede abaxial do casco, avaliados após o período de terminação. Essa enfermidade não promove modificações nos parâmetros histomorfométricos das lâminas dérmicas e na porcentagem de minerais da parede abaxial do casco.

Abstract Microbial therapeutic enzymes are the protagonists in the pharmacological treatment of different human diseases. The intrinsic enzymatic characteristics, such as high affinity and specificity to the corresponding substrate, enable effective therapies, with minimal adverse effects and complete remission. However, immunogenicity, short half-life, low enzymatic yield, and low selectivity regarding available enzyme drugs are currently the main obstacles to their development and the broad adherence to therapeutic protocols. By harboring adapted and still unexplored microbial life, environments of extreme conditions, such as Antarctica, become especially important in the prospecting and development of new enzymatic compounds that present higher yields and the possibility of genetic improvement. Antarctic microorganisms have adaptation mechanisms, such as more fluid cell membranes, production of antifreeze proteins and enzymes with more malleable structures, more robust, stable, selective catalytic sites for their respective substrates, and high antioxidant capacity. In this context, this review aims to explore enzymes synthesized by bacteria and fungi from Antarctica as potential drug producers, capable of providing therapeutic efficacy, less adverse effects, and lower production costs with highlight to L-Asparaginase, collagenase, superoxide dismutase and ribonucleases. In addition, this review highlights the unique biotechnological profile of these Antarctic extremophile microorganisms.

OBJECTIVES: This observational, cross-sectional study based aimed to test whether heart failure (HF)-disease management program (DMP) components are influencing care and clinical decision-making in Brazil. METHODS: The survey respondents were cardiologists recommended by experts in the field and invited to participate in the survey via printed form or email. The survey consisted of 29 questions addressing site demographics, public versus private infrastructure, HF baseline data of patients, clinical management of HF, performance indicators, and perceptions about HF treatment. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 98 centers (58% public and 42% private practice) distributed across Brazil. Public HF-DMPs compared to private HF-DMP were associated with a higher percentage of HF-DMP-dedicated services (79% vs 24%; OR: 12, 95% CI: 94-34), multidisciplinary HF (MHF)-DMP [84% vs 65%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-8), HF educational programs (49% vs 18%; OR: 4; 95% CI: 1-2), written instructions before hospital discharge (83% vs 76%; OR: 1; 95% CI: 0-5), rehabilitation (69% vs 39%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), monitoring (44% vs 29%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-5), guideline-directed medical therapy-HF use (94% vs 85%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15), and less B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) dosage (73% vs 88%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), and key performance indicators (37% vs 60%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-7). In comparison to non- MHF-DMP, MHF-DMP was associated with more educational initiatives (42% vs 6%; OR: 12; 95% CI: 1-97), written instructions (83% vs 68%; OR: 2: 95% CI: 1-7), rehabilitation (69% vs 17%; OR: 11; 95% CI: 3-44), monitoring (47% vs 6%; OR: 14; 95% CI: 2-115), GDMT-HF (92% vs 83%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15). In addition, there were less use of BNP as a biomarker (70% vs 84%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-8) and key performance indicators (35% vs 51%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 91,6) in the non-MHF group. Physicians considered changing or introducing new medications mostly when patients were hospitalized or when observing worsening disease and/or symptoms. Adherence to drug treatment and non-drug treatment factors were the greatest medical problems associated with HF treatment. CONCLUSION: HF-DMPs are highly heterogeneous. New strategies for HF care should consider the present study highlights and clinical decision-making processes to improve HF patient care.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the possible factors that influence sleep quality in adolescents with and without chronic immunosuppressive conditions quarantined during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 305 adolescents with chronic immunocompromised conditions and 82 healthy adolescents. Online surveys were completed, which included questions on socio-demographic data and self-rated healthcare routine during COVID-19 quarantine and the following validated questionnaires: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL4.0), and Pediatric Outcome Data Collection Instrument (PODCI). RESULTS: The median current age [14 (10-18) vs. 15 (10-18) years, p=0.847] and frequency of female sex (62% vs. 58%, p=0.571) were similar in adolescents with chronic conditions compared with healthy adolescents. The frequency of poor sleep quality was similar in both groups (38% vs. 48%, p=0.118). Logistic regression analysis, including both healthy adolescents and adolescents with chronic conditions (n=387), demonstrated that self-reported increase in screen time (odds ratio [OR] 3.0; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.3-6.8; p=0.008) and intrafamilial violence report (OR 2.1; 95% CI 1.2-3.5; p=0.008) were independently associated with poor sleep quality in these adolescents. However, the PODCI global function score was associated with a lower OR for poor sleep quality (OR 0.97; 95% CI 0.94-0.99; p=0.001). Further logistic regression, including only adolescents with chronic conditions (n=305), demonstrated that self-reported increase in screen time (OR 3.1; 95% CI 1.4-6.8; p=0.006) and intrafamilial violence report (OR 2.0; 95% CI 1.2-3.4; p=0.011) remained independently associated with poor quality of sleep, whereas a lower PODCI global function score was associated with a lower OR for sleep quality (OR 0.96; 95% CI 0.94-0.98; p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Self-reported increases in screen time and intrafamilial violence report impacted sleep quality in both healthy adolescents and those with chronic conditions. Decreased health-related quality of life was observed in adolescents with poor sleep quality.

DLLME-GC/ECD Method for the Residual Analysis of Parathion-Methyl and its Application in the Study of the UV-Photodegradation Process

A new method has been developed to determine trace levels of organophosphorus pesticide parathion-methyl in water samples by using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME), followed by gas chromatograph coupled with electron capture detector (GC/ECD) analysis. The optimized and validated method showed high extraction recovery (101.1%), high enrichment factor (57.3), low limits of detection and quantification, 0.083 and 0.250 µg L-1, respectively. The established DLLME-GC/ECD method has been successfully applied for the evaluation of the photodegradation of the parathion-methyl by UV254nm radiation in different conditions of pH and temperature. The parathion-methyl photodegradation at pH 3 and 35 °C achieved > 99.5% after 120 min of exposition. For this condition, it was observed the kinetic rate of 0.0515 min-1, the quantum yield of 1.22 × 10-5 mol Einstein-1 and a half-life time of 13.46 min. All experimental conditions tested proved to be strongly influenced by pH and temperature. The application of the optimized process in distilled and drinking water spiked with parathion-methyl provided residues of this pesticide at levels below the maximum permitted by Brazilian legislation, which is 9.0 µg L-1.

Intrastromal corneal ring segments delay corneal grafting in patients with keratoconus

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto do implante de anéis corneanos intraestromais como alternativa cirúrgica à ceratoplastia, em pacientes com ceratocone previamente inscritos na fila de espera para transplante de córnea. Métodos: Este estudo unicêntrico, retrospectivo, observacional analisou prontuários de 19 olhos de 18 pacientes (idade média de 23,36 ± 6,22) com diagnóstico de ceratocone, incluídos na lista de espera para transplante de córnea do estado de Goiás, Brasil. Após realização de exame oftalmológico completo pré-operatório, incluindo acuidade visual (AV) corrigida, tonometria de aplanação, biomicroscopia, fundoscopia, paquimetria e topografia corneana, os pacientes foram submetidos a cirurgia para implante de anel intracorneano Keraring®. Os mesmos foram submetidos a exame oftalmológico no 1o, 7o, 30o, 90o, 180o dias de pós-operatório, e também após 2 anos da cirurgia. Resultado: Após a visita final de 2 anos de acompanhamento (média de seguimento de 28,72 ± 4,71 meses), houve melhora estatisticamente significativa da AV corrigida (logMAR): 0,59 ± 0,35 no pré-operatório para 0,35 ± 0,45 do pós-operatório ( p <0,01). Três dos 19 olhos (15,8%) permaneceram com a indicação de ceratoplastia. A conduta para os demais (84,2%) foi correção óptica com óculos (52,6%) ou lente de contato (31,6%). Um paciente evoluiu com ceratite infecciosa no pós-operatório, tendo seus anéis removidos. Conclusão: O implante de anéis intraestromais mostrou ser uma alternativa eficaz ao transplante de córnea nesta série de casos. Esse procedimento pode ajudar a retardar ou eliminar a necessidade de indicação de ceratoplastia em pacientes com ceratocone.
ABSTRACT Purpose: To assess the impact of intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) as a surgical alternative to corneal grafting in patients with keratoconus who were scheduled for a corneal transplant. Methods: This single-surgeon, single-center, retrospective, observational case series study included 19 eyes of 18 patients (mean age, 23.36 ± 6.22 years) with a confirmed diagnosis of keratoconus. These patients were enrolled from the State of Goiás, Brazil corneal graft waiting list. Following extensive pre-operative testing, including the measurement of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), applanation tonometry, biomicroscopy, funduscopy, pachymetry, and corneal topography, patients were implanted with Keraring® ICRS. Patients underwent clinical examination at postoperative days 1, 7, 30, 90, and 180 and were examined again 2 years following surgery. Results: At the 2-year cut-off following ICRS implantation (mean follow-up, 28.72 ± 4.71 months), there was a statistically significant improvement in BCVA (logMAR) from 0.59 ± 0.35 preoperatively to 0.35 ± 0.45 postoperatively ( p <0.01). Three of 19 eyes (15.8%) still required keratoplasty. In the remaining patients (84.2%), BCVA was managed with spectacles (52.6%) or contact lenses (31.6%). One patient developed infectious keratitis, requiring removal of ICR at the first postoperative visit. Conclusion: ICRS implantation may be a surgical alternative to keratoplasty in patients with keratoconus. This procedure may delay or even eliminate the need for keratoplasty in such patients.

Various greener microextraction procedures have been proposed with low limits of detection to control of pesticides present in the environment, including the low-density solvent dispersive liquid‑liquid microextraction (LDS/DLLME) technique. The addition of electrolytes is important in order to induce the salting-out effect. Thus, it is possible to use the Hofmeister series and the Voet lyotropic number to study the effect of different ions on pesticide extraction in LDS/DLLME technique. Different anions were tested and a strong correlation was observed between the lyotropic number of the anion and the recovered volume of extraction solvent. The lyotropic numbers of the anions were successfully compared with the chromatographic peak areas normalized by the recovered solvent volumes, and similar empirical cubic relationships were obtained for all the pyrethroids evaluated. In the extraction of the organophosphorous pesticides, chlorpyrifos presented similarity with the pyrethroids, while correlation was observed between methyl parathion and profenofos.

This study evaluated the metalloproteomic profile of muscle tissue samples from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) methods was used for protein fractionation and identification based on image analysis. Determination of Ca, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn was performed in the protein spots by flame and/or graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS, GFAAS), the protein spots were characterized by electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS). FAAS and GFAAS determinations have indicated the presence of calcium in seven protein spots, iron in only one spot, manganese in six spots, and zinc in two spots. Of the seventeen protein spots where the presence of metal ions was detected, ten were characterized by ESI-MS/MS.

Resumo Um levantamento atualizado das plantas com sementes e análises relevantes acerca desta biodiversidade são apresentados. Este trabalho se iniciou em 2010 com a publicação do Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos e, desde então vem sendo atualizado por mais de 430 especialistas trabalhando online. O Brasil abriga atualmente 32.086 espécies nativas de Angiospermas e 23 espécies nativas de Gimnospermas e estes novos dados mostram um aumento de 3% da riqueza em relação a 2010. A Amazônia é o Domínio Fitogeográfico com o maior número de espécies de Gimnospermas, enquanto que a Floresta Atlântica possui a maior riqueza de Angiospermas. Houve um crescimento considerável no número de espécies e nas taxas de endemismo para a maioria dos Domínios (Caatinga, Cerrado, Floresta Atlântica, Pampa e Pantanal), com exceção da Amazônia que apresentou uma diminuição de 2,5% de endemicidade. Entretanto, a maior parte das plantas com sementes que ocorrem no Brasil (57,4%) é endêmica deste território. A proporção de formas de vida varia de acordo com os diferentes Domínios: árvores são mais expressivas na Amazônia e Floresta Atlântica do que nos outros biomas, ervas são dominantes no Pampa e as lianas apresentam riqueza expressiva na Amazônia, Floresta Atlântica e Pantanal. Este trabalho não só quantifica a biodiversidade brasileira, mas também indica as lacunas de conhecimento e o desafio a ser enfrentado para a conservação desta flora.
Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

Sobrevivência de Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici Raça 2 submetido à técnica da solarização associada à incorporação de folhas de mandioca

A solarização combinada com a prévia adição de material orgânico propicia controle efetivo de diversos fungos de solo que de outra forma são de difícil erradicação, permitindo, também, redução do tempo de tratamento. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o controle do fungo Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici Raça 2, por meio da incorporação da parte aérea de mandioca brava (Manihot utilisima) e mandioca mansa (Manihot dulcis) seguido de solarização do solo. Foi realizado experimento de campo, onde incorporou-se 3 Kg/m² da parte aérea de mandioca brava e mandioca mansa, separadamente. O experimento constou de seis tratamentos (solarização + mandioca brava; solarização + mandioca mansa; solo solarizado; solo; mandioca brava e mandioca mansa). A sobrevivência do fungo foi avaliado por meio das estruturas de resistência em meio semi-seletivo de Komada, aos 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias do início do experimento. As temperaturas do solo foram monitoradas através de um coletor de dados Tipo CR23X (Campbell Scientific) e a quantificação dos gases (CO2 e O2) foi feita pelo equipamento analisador de gases (Testo 325-1). Nos tratamentos solarizados, a temperatura do solo e aprisionamento de CO2 foram maiores em relação à testemunha (solo) e aos tratamentos apenas com a incorporação de material vegetal. A associação da incorporação de mandioca, tanto a "brava" quanto a "mansa", com a solarização, proporcionou a inativação de F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici Raça 2, podendo atuar no controle da doença murcha de fusarium causada por este patógeno. Os demais tratamentos foram inócuos, permitindo a sobrevivência do fungo.
Soil solarization associated with organic matters provides an effective control of several soil-borne fungi, which are difficult to eliminate using other methods; in addition, this association shortens the treatment time. The aim of this study was to assess the control of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici Race 2 by combining the amendment of "bitter" cassava (Manihot utilisima) and "sweet" cassava (Manihot dulcis) leaves with soil solarization. A field experimental was carried out, 3Kg/m² of the two types of cassava leaves were separately amended. Six treatments were tested, (solarizated+ "bitter" cassava, solarizated+"sweet" cassava, soil solarizated, soil, "bitter"cassava and "sweet"cassava). Fungus control was assessed based on the survival resistance structures on semi-seletive Komada medium at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the beginning of the experiment. Soil temperature values were monitored by a DataLogger Type CR23X (Campbell Scientific), and quantity of CO2 and O2 was monitored by a gas analyzer equipment (Testo 325-1). In solarizated treatments, soil temperature and trapping of CO2 were higher than the control (soil) and treatments with organic material incorporated without solarization. The association of both "bitter" and "sweet" cassava amendment with soil solarization inatived the pathogen whereas the other treatments had no effect, allowing the survival of the fungus.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do óleo essencial de Eucalyptus globulus (OEEG) sobre a eclosão e desenvolvimento de larvas de Haemonchus contortus. A determinação da composição química do OEEG foi feita por meio de cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massa. No teste de eclosão de ovos (TEO), utilizaram-se as concentrações 21,75; 17,4; 8,7; 5,43 e 2,71 mg.mL-1; e no de desenvolvimento larvar (TDL) as concentrações foram 43,5; 21,75; 10,87; 5,43 e 2,71 mg.mL-1. Cada ensaio foi acompanhado por um controle positivo, 0,02 mg.mL-1 tiabendazol, no TEO e 0,008 mg.mL-1 ivermectina no TDL, e por um controle negativo com o diluente Tween 80 (3%). A eficácia máxima obtida pelo OEEG sobre ovos foi de 99,3% na concentração de 21,75 mg.mL-1 e, sobre larvas, 98,7% na concentração de 43,5 mg.mL-1. A concentração do OEEG, que inviabilizou 50% dos ovos e das larvas do parasito, foi de 8,3 e 6,92 mg.mL-1, respectivamente. A análise química do óleo identificou como principal componente o monoterpeno 1,8-cineol. O OEEG apresentou atividade ovicida e larvicida in vitro sobre H. contortus, determinando um bom potencial para utilização no controle de nematóides gastrintestinais de ovinos e caprinos.
The objective of this work was to evaluate ovicidal and larvicidal effects of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EGEO) on Haemonchus contortus. The chemical composition determination of EGEO was through gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Egg hatch test (EHT) was performed in concentrations 21.75; 17.4; 8.7; 5.43 e 2.71 mg.mL-1. In larval development test (LDT) were used the concentrations 43.5; 21.75; 10.87; 5.43 e 2.71 mg.mL-1. Each trial was conducted by negative control with Tween 80 (3%) and positive control, 0.02 mg.mL -1 of thiabendazole in EHT and 0.008 mg.mL-1 of ivermectin in LDT. The maximum effectiveness of EGEO on eggs was 99.3% in concentration of 21.75 mg.mL-1 and on larvae was 98.7% in concentration 43.5 mg.mL-1. The concentration of EGEO that inhibits 50% of the eggs and larvae was 8.3 and 6.92 mg.mL-1, respectively. The oil chemical analysis identified as main component the monoterpen 1,8-cineol. EGEO presented ovicidal and larvicidal activities in vitro, revealing a good potential for use in the control of sheep and goat gastrointestinal nematodes.

A atividade antioxidante, poder redutor (RP) e a atividade coletora de radicais livres (FRS) usando 2,2-difenil-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH), e a concentração de substâncias fenólicas totais dos extratos e substâncias isoladas das folhas, caules e raízes de Maytenus imbricata Mart. (Celastraceae) foram avaliados. Alguns extratos, a mistura de compostos fenólicos e epicatequina mostraram alto poder redutor e atividade antioxidante (DPPH) em comparação com o padrão butilhidroxianisol (BHA) e ácido gálhico (GA) utilizados no ensaio. O extrato acetato de etila das folhas mosraram alto teor de substâncias fenólicas e alto poder redutor e atividade antioxidante em relação aos outros extratos. Este fato indica haver alguma relação entre a concentração de substâncias fenólicas e o poder redutor. O solvente usado no processo de extração influencia a composição química dos extratos e, consequentemente, as atividades redutoras e antioxidantes.
The free radical scavenging activity (FRS) using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), the reducer power and the total phenolic concentration of extracts and compounds isolated from leaves, branches and roots of Maytenus imbricata Mart. (Celastraceae) were evaluated. Some extracts, a mixture of phenolic compounds (MPC) and epicatechin showed higher RP and FRS (DPPH) activities in comparison with the standard butylhydroxyanisole (BHA) and galic acid (GA) used in assays. The ethyl acetate extract from leaves showed higher total phenolic content and also higher RP and FRS (DPPH) than the other extracts. These facts indicate that there are some relations between phenolic concentration in the extract and the antioxidant activity and the reducer power. The solvent used in the extraction process influences the chemical composition of the extracts and consequently its antioxidant and reducer power activities.

Os fungos fitopatogênicos habitantes do solo podem sobreviver por vários anos nesse ambiente por meio de estruturas de resistência, causando perdas em muitas culturas, por vezes, inviabilizando o pleno aproveitamento de vastas áreas agrícolas. O uso de materiais orgânicos no solo consorciado com a técnica de solarização propicia a retenção de compostos voláteis fungitóxicos emanados da rápida degradação dos materiais e que são letais a vários fitopatógenos. O objetivo deste experimento foi à prospecção de novos materiais orgânicos que produzissem voláteis fungitóxicos capazes de controlar fungos fitopatogênicos habitantes do solo, em condições de associação com a simulação da técnica de solarização (microcosmo). Portanto, o presente trabalho consistiu de seis tratamentos (Solarizado; Solarizado+Brócolos; Solarizado+Eucalipto; Solarizado+Mamona; Solarizado+Mandioca e Laboratório) e cinco períodos (0, 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias) para avaliar a sobrevivência de quatro fungos de solo (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici Raça 2; Macrophomina phaseolina; Rhizoctonia solani AG-4 HGI e Sclerotium rolfsii). Em cada uma das duas câmaras de vidro (microcosmo) por dia avaliado continha uma bolsa de náilon contendo as estruturas de resistência de cada fitopatógeno. Estruturas dos fitopatógenos foram mantidas também em condições de laboratório como referencial de controle. Todos os materiais quando associados à simulação da solarização propiciaram o controle de todos os fitopatógenos estudados, entretanto, foi observado variação no controle dos fungos. O tratamento que apenas simulou a solarização não controlou nenhum fitopatógeno.
