ABSTRACT: The present investigation aimed to evaluate the type of maintenance and the types of machinery in four sawmills in the city of Jaén, the evaluation was carried out through the methodology of direct observation information collection through the data collection sheet instrument, In turn, the type of machinery used in the first transformation sawmill work was identified, with the technical characteristics of each machinery usually consisting of a brushcutter, band saw, circular table saw and a planer. The type of sawmill was classified according to its daily production, being the sawmill the parral, Santa Rosa and Casa Blanca in the category of small and the sawmill the union of very small; process diagrams were also elaborated according to the classification, resulting in two process diagrams; and the classification of maintenance in the studied sawmills is preventive and corrective; It was also determined that it is business-oriented for the La Unión, Santa Rosa and Casa Blanca sawmills and for the El Parral sawmill it is classified as oriented to business-followers.

RESUMEN: La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo clasificar el tipo de mantenimiento y describir el tipo de maquinarias en cuatro aserraderos en la ciudad de Jaén, la evaluación se realizó mediante la metodología de recopilación de información de observación directa mediante el instrumento de ficha de recolección de datos, a su vez se identifico el tipo de maquinaria usada en los trabajos de aserrío de primera transformación, siendo las características técnicas de cada maquinaria conformado usualmente por una desbrozadora, sierra cinta, sierra circular de mesa y una cepilladora. Se clasificó el tipo de aserradero según su producción diaria, siendo el aserradero el parral, santa rosa y casa blanca en categoría de pequeño y el aserradero la unión de muy pequeño; también se elaboraron diagramas de procesos según la clasificación dando como resultado dos diagramas de procesos; y la clasificación del mantenimiento en los aserraderos estudiados es de tipo preventivo y correctivo; también se determinó que es orientado a los negocios para los aserraderos la Unión, Santa Rosa y Casa Blanca y para el aserradero el parral se clasifica en orientado a los negocios - seguidores.

BACKGROUND Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem, which has been aggravated by the alarming growth of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Therefore, the development of a safer and more effective treatment is needed. OBJECTIVES The aim of this work was repositioning and evaluate histone deacetylases (HDAC) inhibitors- based drugs with potential antimycobacterial activity. METHODS Using an in silico pharmacological repositioning strategy, three molecules that bind to the catalytic site of histone deacetylase were selected. Pneumocytes type II and macrophages were infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and treated with pre-selected HDAC inhibitors (HDACi). Subsequently, the ability of each of these molecules to directly promote the elimination of M. tuberculosis was evaluated by colony-forming unit (CFU)/mL. We assessed the expression of antimicrobial peptides and respiratory burst using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) FINDINGS Aminoacetanilide (ACE), N-Boc-1,2-phenylenediamine (N-BOC), 1,3-Diphenylurea (DFU), reduce bacillary loads in macrophages and increase the production of β-defensin-2, LL-37, superoxide dismutase (SOD) 3 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). While only the use of ACE in type II pneumocytes decreases the bacterial load through increasing LL-37 expression. Furthermore, the use of ACE and rifampicin inhibited the survival of intracellular multi-drug resistance M. tuberculosis. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Our data support the usefulness of in silico approaches for drug repositioning to provide a potential adjunctive therapy for TB.

Abstract The pandemic and the geopolitical conflict between Russia and Ukraine are events that have caused economic instability in Peru. Reason that was investigated on the analysis of the biological and chemical characteristics of cabbage fed with compost based on sugarcane residues. The objective was to analyze the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of cabbage from the adequate dose of compost based on sugarcane residues and distance between plants. It is based on the methodology applied with an experimental approach, for which the Completely Random Block Design with a 4x 2 factorial arrangement was used, which consisted of 3 blocks and 8 treatments that were the combination: F1 with 0, F2 with 8, T3 with 10 and F4 with 12 t/ha and spacing (D1) with 0.30 m between plants and 0.60 m between rows and (D2) with 0.35 m between plants and 0.60 m between rows. The physical characteristics of cabbage were evaluated and processed by analysis of variance, nutrient concentrations in leaves and stomatal density were analyzed. The results determined that T7 stood out in plant height with 41.88 cm, yield with 26.76 tn/ha and T6 in root length with 20.22 cm. In chemical analysis of leaves T1 stood out in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and T4 in calcium, magnesium and sulfur. In T7 stomata density with 977 stomata/mm2. It concludes that at an adequate dose and greater distance that T7 stands out in the concentration of nutrients that are within normal values and high density of stomata; Therefore, these characteristics influenced the optimal biochemical reactions, which obtained good development and yield that differed at 51.39% and 32.17% with respect to the controls T1 and T5.

Resumo A pandemia e o conflito geopolítico entre a Rússia e a Ucrânia são eventos que têm causado instabilidade econômica no Peru. Motivo que foi investigado na análise das características biológicas e químicas do repolho alimentado com composto à base de resíduos da cana-de-açúcar. O objetivo foi analisar as características físicas, químicas e biológicas do repolho a partir da dose adequada de composto à base de resíduos da cana-de-açúcar e distância entre plantas. Baseia-se na metodologia aplicada com uma abordagem experimental, para a qual foi utilizado o Delineamento de Blocos Completamente Aleatório com arranjo fatorial 4 x 2, que consistia em 3 blocos e 8 tratamentos que eram a combinação: F1 com 0, F2 com 8, T3 com 10 e F4 com 12 toneladas/ha e espaçamento (D1) com 0,30 m entre plantas e 0,60 m entre linhas e (D2) com 0,35 m entre plantas e 0,60 m entre linhas. As características físicas do repolho foram avaliadas e processadas por análise de variância, as concentrações de nutrientes nas folhas e a densidade estomática foram analisadas. Os resultados determinaram que T7 se destacou em altura de planta com 41,88 cm, produtividade com 26,76 tn/ha e T6 em comprimento de raiz com 20,22 cm. Na análise química das folhas T1 se destacou em nitrogênio, fósforo, potássio e T4 em cálcio, magnésio e enxofre. Em densidade de estômatos T7 com 977 estômatos/mm2. Conclui que em dose adequada e maior distância que T7 se destaca na concentração de nutrientes que estão dentro dos valores normais e alta densidade de estômatos; Portanto, essas características influenciaram nas reações bioquímicas ótimas, que obtiveram bom desenvolvimento e rendimentos que diferiram em 51,39% e 32,17% em relação aos controles T1 e T5.

Objective: The number of people suffering from depression and/or anxiety has increased steadily due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. In this context, web-based exercise interventions have emerged as a potential treatment strategy. The objective of this study was to synthetize evidence from randomized controlled trials regarding the effects of web-based exercise interventions on patients with depressive and/or anxiety disorders. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were followed. Six databases were searched (Cochrane Library, EBSCO, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, and Web of Science), and eligible articles were identified according to a PICOS inclusion-exclusion approach (participants with depressive or anxiety disorders; web-based exercise interventions; active or passive control group; assessment of changes in depressive or anxiety disorders; randomized design). Primary outcomes were depressive and/or anxiety symptoms. The quality of evidence was assessed with Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation. Results: Of 7,846 search results, three studies met the inclusion criteria (172 participants between 18 and 65 years of age, 95.9% women). The web-based exercise interventions lasted 8-12 weeks and involved endurance training, yoga, or combined endurance and strength training. The comparators involved non-exercise controls or active controls. Compliance rates were low. Web-based exercise interventions were not superior to controls regarding anxiety symptoms, and only one study found benefits for depressive symptoms (p ≤ 0.05). The quality of the cumulative evidence was low. Conclusion: The available data regarding the effects of web-based exercise interventions on depression and/or anxiety symptoms is scarce, the risk of bias is high, and the quality of the cumulative results is low. Currently, no clear recommendations can be provided. Registration number: PROSPERO CRD42021225938.

Abstract Objective: In previous studies, smaller renal volumes were reported in prematurely born infants, however, these renal volumes were not corrected for body surface area, the main determinant of renal size. Given the rapid growth of the renal cortex after premature birth, the authors hypothesized that corrected volumes would not differ from healthy controls. Methods: Ambispective cohort study with prospective follow-up of prematurely born babies in a large specialized center and retrospectively recruited healthy control group. Children were assessed for renal length and renal volumes at age 5 by three independent ultrasonographers. Detailed anthropometry, blood pressure and renal function were also obtained. Age independent z-scores were calculated for all parameters and compared using descriptive statistics. Results: Eighty-nine premature study participants (median 32 weeks gestational age) and 33 healthy controls (median 38 weeks gestational age) were studied. Study participants did not differ in age, sex, Afro-Colombian descent, height, blood pressure, serum creatinine, or new Schwartz eGFR. Premature study participants had a significantly lower weight (17.65 ± 2.93 kg) than controls (19.05 ± 2.81 kg, p = 0.0072) and lower body surface area. The right renal volumes were significantly smaller (39.4 vs 43.4 mL), but after correction for body surface area, the renal volume and renal length z-scores were identical for both kidneys (mean right kidney -0.707 vs -0.507; mean left kidney -0.498 vs -0.524, respectively). Conclusion: Renal volumes need to be corrected to body surface area. After correction for body surface area, 5-year-old healthy and prematurely born children have comparable renal volumes.

ABSTRACT Research on populations of the family Mugilidae is necessary for the framework of their good use and conservation, given the documented spatial-temporal variation in their attributes and biological processes. Mugil curema has also shown particularities in the southeastern Gulf of California, which should be considered. In total, 626 individuals were collected from February 2015 to August 2016. The gonad development pattern was asynchronous and divided into six ovarian and five testicular phases. The sex succession as size increases, the presence of only males in smaller sizes, some aspects of the ovarian structure, and the eosinophilic cells in the ovarian stroma suggest that M. curema could be a protandrous hermaphroditic species. Thus, the size at sexual maturity was smaller in males (18.26 cm in total length) than in females (22.08 cm). This information is greatly relevant for fishery management measures and the sustainable use approach and, at the same time, arouses interest in future research.

Abstract We report on a functional Fabry-Perot mode interferometer and its application for absolute displacement sensing. The proposed device consists of two well-cleaved tips of standard optical fibers that were introduced into a microcapillary glass with an inner diameter of ∼ 125.5 um; one tip was stuck to the capillary by the application of an electric arc from a standard splice machine, while the other tip was free to be longitudinally moved. The transmission spectrum of the interferometric device exhibited an interferometric pattern due to the reflections of the fundamental mode on the two partial reflecting tip surfaces of the standard optical fibers. The period and the intensity level of the interference pattern depend strongly on the separation between the optical fiber tips caused by the displacement of the free optical fiber tip. This dependence allows for the use of either period or intensity changes for length displacement sensing interrogation. For the period interrogation, the length can be accurately calculated and measured by taking the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the detected interference pattern. For intensity interrogation, a simple photodetector can determine the distance that separates the optical fiber tips.

Abstract The deposition of DLC films on 321H stainless steel aims at attributing properties such as high wear resistance and low friction coefficient to the substrate material. Nitrogen added to DLC can improve the film adhesion to metal substrates, but the investigation of its effect on corrosion resistance, an important property for stainless steels, is lacking. The DLC film was deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) using a pulsed-DC power supply with a gas mixture of Ar and CH4, and to the DLC(N) film deposition was used CH4 and N2 varying the percentage of nitrogen from 10 to 50% in the treatment. DLC films improved both the wear and corrosion resistance of 321H stainless steel. The results show that the 10, 20 and 30% of N2 supply during the deposition increased the adhesion of the film on the substrate, enhancing the wear resistance of the treated material. The addition of 40 and 50% of N2 during the deposition, however, impaired the corrosion resistance compared with the substrate. An improvement of adhesion, wear and corrosion resistance were observed for 30% N2 condition. Thus, the incorporation of suitable concentration of nitrogen modifies the features of the DLC film, obtaining a good combination of high wear resistance and corrosion protection due to a combination of structure, high thickness, and high adhesion of the film to 321H stainless steel.

Abstract Small bowel bleeding (SBB) accounts for 5-10% of patients with gastrointestinal bleeding and its association is unusual in patients with histoplasmosis. The incidence of gastrointestinal histoplasmosis is unknown since only 3-12% present symptoms, predominantly in immunocompromised patients. However, in immunocompetent hosts, it is reported only in 0.05% of cases. A clinical case of an immunocompetent patient with massive SBB, Grade IV hypovolemic shock associated with systemic histoplasmosis and treated with intestinal resection and amphotericin B is hereby discussed.

Resumen El artículo presenta una revisión de transmisión de COVID-19 en el contexto de transporte público, con aplicación particular para toma de decisiones en América Latina. Con base en los hallazgos recientes sobre transmisión de Covid-19 y la importancia relativa de cada factor (gotículas, fómites y rutas de aerosoles) en dicha transmisión, buscamos actualizar la discusión sobre el tema que generalmente se ha basado en la “distancia social” como parámetro único de reducción de riesgo de transmisión y amplía esta visión para integrar la ventilación, el comportamiento de usuarios (uso de mascarilla, protección ocular, silencio), y la distancia de viaje. Se indican al final recomendaciones para mejorar las condiciones de movilidad en general sin aumentar el riesgo de contagio de Covid-19.

Abstract The article presents a general overview on COVID-19 transmission in the context of public transport, particularly applicable to decision making in Latin America. Based on recent findings on COVID-19 transmission and the relative importance of each factor (droplets, fomites, and aerosol routes) in such transmission, we seek to update the discussion on the topic that has generally been based on social distance as the only parameter for reducing the risk of transmission and broadens the vision to integrate ventilation, users’ behavior (mask and eye protection use, silence while in the transport system) and travel distance. Recommendations to improve mobility conditions reducing the risk of COVID-19 contagion are provided.

Abstract Background: The incidence of vertebral fractures is high and the new treatment options developed in recent years represent a significant improvement, although they are not without complications. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate whether percutaneous vertebral augmentation (PVA) was associated with clinical and radiological subsequent adjacent fractures. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed searching on PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and ClinicalTrial.gov from the establishment of the database to January 2020. Eligible studies assessing the subsequent adjacent fractures after PVA compared with conservative treatment (CT) were incorporated. The pooled risk ratio (RR) with its 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) was used. Heterogeneity, sensitivity, and publication bias analyses were performed. Results: Twenty-four studies were considered eligible and were included finally. 20/421 patients (4.75%) had clinical subsequent adjacent fractures from the PVA group, and 25/359 patients (6.96%) had from the CT group, and 46/440 patients (10.45%) from the PVA group and 36/444 patients (8.10%) from the CT group had radiological subsequent adjacent fractures. There both had no significant difference between two groups (RR = 0.67, 95%CI: [0.38, 1.19], p = 0.17)/(RR = 1.13, 95% CI: [0.75, 1.70], p = 0.576). However, in fractured vertebrae, number in the PVA group was more than that in the CT group (RR=1.41, 95%CI: [1.03, 1.93], p = 0.03). Conclusion: Collectively, currently available literature provides data showed that PVA did not increase the incidence for subsequent adjacent fractures, no matter it was clinical or radiological fracture. However, PVA may increase the number of fractured vertebrae.

Resumen Antecedentes: La incidencia de fracturas vertebrales es elevada y las nuevas opciones de tratamiento desarrolladas en los últimos años suponen una mejoría importante, aunque no se encuentran exentas de complicaciones. Objetivos: El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar si el tratamiento vertebral percutáneo se asoció con fracturas en los niveles adyacentes, tanto clínicas como radiológicas, en los controles posteriores. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática y un metanálisis buscando en PubMed, EMBASE, la biblioteca Cochrane, Google Scholar, Web of Science y ClinicalTrial.gov desde el establecimiento de la base de datos hasta enero de 2020. Se eligieron estudios elegibles que evalúan las fracturas adyacentes posteriores después de PVA en comparación con tratamiento conservador (CT). Se utilizó la razón de riesgo (RR), agrupada con sus intervalos de confianza del 95% (IC del 95%). Se realizaron análisis de heterogeneidad, de sensibilidad y de sesgo de publicación. Resultados: Se consideraron elegibles 24 estudio, que se incluyeron finalmente. Del total de pacientes estudiados, 20/421 pacientes (4.75%) tuvieron fracturas adyacentes clínicas posteriores del grupo PVA, y 25/359 pacientes (6,96%) tuvieron del grupo CT, y 46/440 pacientes (10.45%) del grupo PVA y 36/444 pacientes (8.10 %) del grupo CT tenía fracturas adyacentes radiológicas posteriores. No existieron diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos (RR = 0.67, IC 95%: [0.38, 1.19], p = 0.17) / (RR = 1.13, IC 95%: [0.75, 1.70], p = 0.576). Sin embargo, en las vértebras fracturadas, el número en el grupo PVA fue mayor que en el grupo CT (RR = 1.41, IC 95%: [1.03, 1.93], p = 0.03). Conclusión: Desde un punto de vista general, la literatura actualmente disponible proporciona datos que muestran que el PVA no aumentó la incidencia de fracturas adyacentes posteriores, sin importar si fue una fractura clínica o radiológica. Pero el PVA puede aumentar el número de vértebras fracturadas.

Abstract Irregular terrains covered with forest vegetation represent a challenging scenario for radio planning. A case of particular interest is the one where a forest-covered high hill or mountain is interposed to the link, for which typical diffraction loss models usually apply as good approximations, even disregarding the vegetation influence. Pragmatic approaches to incorporate the forest contribution, such as adding a clutter height, usually improve accuracy a little further. In this scope, this paper assesses the performance of some models based on the Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD) for RF path loss prediction in such ridges. Special attention goes to a hybrid model in which the forest is a uniform layer over a wedge that represents the ridge, and its influence is incorporated into the diffraction coefficient. The path loss predictions are compared with measurements from a mountainous region of the USA, and the statistical adherence of the models to the measured data is discussed. Overall, the slightly better performance of the models which incorporate the vegetation influence was confirmed, the hybrid model performing the best for frequencies below 910 MHz.

ABSTRACT This research study tested the protective effect of prolonged exposure of shrimp food supplemented with glucans from shrimp-pond related yeasts on shrimp Penaeus vannamei reared under the presence of the white spot syndrome virus (WSSV). The glucans extracted and purified from isolated marine yeasts identified as Debaryomyces hansenii, Candida tropicalis, Candida humilis, Candida glabrata, Pichia kudriavzevyi, Wickerhamomyces anomalus and the terrestrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast were characterized by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The treatments were prepared with food enriched with the yeast beta-glucans and the control groups without beta-glucans. Shrimp were fed thrice a day and challenged orally with WSSV on days 31, 54, 66 and muscularly at day 70. The animals were assessed for the protective effect in terms of post-infection total hemocyte counts, and survival rate. The results indicated that marine yeasts possessed ß-1,3/1,6-glucans, and that D. hansenii was an excellent source yielding 30% of its dry biomass of pure glucans. For the positive control group where no glucans were added, WSSV challenges showed 100% survival when the virus was provided orally, and 40% when the virus was injected. These results also indicated that the shrimp line selected for this study was a resistant line for WSSV. Shrimp groups fed with glucans of the marine yeasts D. hansenii and C. humillis showed a significant protection, allowing shrimp survival of 66% while terrestrial yeast showed 57.14%. These results indicated that marine yeasts growing in the shrimp pond were an excellent source of beta-glucans that allowed extra protection against the mortality caused by this pathogenic virus.

Abstract In the province of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, the COVID-19 epidemic has a limited progression that shows an early small-number peak of infections. Most published mathematical models fit data with high numbers of confirmed cases. In contrast, small numbers of cases make it difficult to predict the course of the epidemic. We present two known models adapted to capture the noisy dynamics of COVID-19 in the Santiago de Cuba province. Parameters of both models were estimated using the approximate-Bayesian-computation framework with dedicated error laws. One parameter of each model was updated on key dates of travel restrictions. Both models approximately predicted the infection peak and the end of the COVID-19 epidemic in Santiago de Cuba. The first model predicted 57 reported cases and 16 unreported cases. Additionally, it estimated six initially exposed persons. The second model forecasted 51 confirmed cases at the end of the epidemic. In conclusion, an opportune epidemiological investigation, along with the low number of initially exposed individuals, might partly explain the favorable evolution of the COVID-19 epidemic in Santiago de Cuba. With the available data, the simplest model predicted the epidemic evolution with greater precision, and the more complex model helped to explain the epidemic phenomenology.

ABSTRACT The identification of drugs against the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is an important requirement. Natural products are substances that serve as sources of beneficial chemical molecules for the development of effective therapies. In this study, 187 natural compounds from Algerian herbal medicines were docked in the active site of SARS-CoV-2 main protease. The result indicates that Piperitol, Warfarin, cis-calamenen-10-ol and α-Cadinene are the structures with best affinity in the binding site of the studied enzyme and all of them respect the conditions mentioned in Lipinski's rule and have acceptable ADMET proprieties; so, these compounds could have more potent antiviral treatment of COVID-19 than the studied compounds, and they have important pharmacokinetic properties and bioavailability.
