Abstract Objective: To assess the association between abdominal obesity, food intake, sleep deprivation, and screen time in adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 432 adolescents aged 14–19 years, from public and private schools. Anthropometric and body composition measures included body weight, waist circumference, body mass index for age, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio, and body fat percentage. Abdominal obesity was defined by age and sex specific cut-off points for waist circumference. Food intake, screen time, sexual maturation, and sleep duration were evaluated by self-administered questionnaires. Results: The prevalence of excess body weight and abdominal obesity was 16.7% and 27.5%, respectively. Students in the adult phase (post-puberty), with inadequate waist-to-height ratio, high body fat percentage, and screen time ≥ 3 h/day were, respectively, 2.5 (95% CI 1.40–4.46), 7.44 (95% CI 1.08-51.46), 2.79 (95% CI 1.04-7.50), and 1.43 (95% CI 1.24-3.89) more likely to have abdominal obesity. Low intake of unprocessed or minimally processed foods was associated with inadequate sleep duration, while high intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with high screen time. Conclusions: Abdominal obesity was associated with the adult phase, short sleep duration and high screen time. The degree of food processing was associated with screen time and sleep duration. Assessing the risk factors of abdominal obesity may be a useful strategy for preventing cardiovascular disease in adolescents.

ABSTRACT Objective To develop and validate the content of a professional training course in mental health nursing care for hospitalized adult medical-surgical patients. Method Content validation research, with the participation of eight experts recruited in 2019, focused on a hospital institution in the southern region of Brazil. Data were collected online and treated by descriptive and analytical statistics. Results Four items of the course were evaluated, obtaining a Content Validation Index (CVI) of 0.98 in the item “concepts in mental health and its applicability to hospitalized medical-surgical patients”; 0.93 in the item “Pre- and post-course on evaluation of knowledge in mental health”; 0.95 in the item “Global overview of the systematization of nursing care in mental health”; and 0.94 in the item “Flowchart of the new mental health tree”. Conclusion: The validation of the professional training course showed satisfactory CVI, and its content validated for use.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Desarrollar y validar el contenido de un curso de formación profesional en atención de enfermería en salud mental para pacientes adultos clínico-quirúrgicos hospitalizados. Método: Encuesta de validación de contenido, con la participación de ocho especialistas reclutados en 2019, con una institución hospitalaria en el sur de Brasil como escenario. Los datos se recopilaron en línea y se trataron mediante estadísticas descriptivas y analíticas. Resultados: Se evaluaron cuatro ítems del curso, obteniendo una concordancia de 0.98 en el ítem “conceptos en salud mental y su aplicabilidad a pacientes clínico-quirúrgicos hospitalizados”; 0,93 en el ítem “Pre y post curso de evaluación de conocimientos en salud mental”; 0,95 en el ítem “Panorama global de la sistematización de la atención de enfermería en salud mental”; y 0,94 en el ítem “Diagrama de flujo del nuevo árbol de salud mental”. Conclusión: La validación del curso de formación profesional mostró concordancia de contenido satisfactoria y su contenido validado para uso.

RESUMO Objetivo: Elaborar e validar o conteúdo de um curso de formação profissional na atenção de enfermagem em saúde mental a pacientes adultos clínico-cirúrgicos hospitalizados. Método: Pesquisa de validação de conteúdo, com a participação de oito especialistas recrutados no ano de 2019, tendo como focouma instituição hospitalar da Região Sul do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados online e tratados pela estatística descritiva e analítica. Resultados: Foram avaliados quatro itens do curso, obtendo-se o Índice de Validação de Conteúdo (IVC) de 0,98 no item “conceitos em saúde mental e sua aplicabilidade para pacientes clínico-cirúrgicos hospitalizados”; 0,93 no item “Pré e pós-curso de avaliação de conhecimentos em saúde mental”; 0,95 no item “Panorama mundial da sistematização da assistência de enfermagemem saúde mental”; e 0,94 no item “Fluxograma da nova árvore de saúde mental”. Abstract Accumulated evidence has shown that the oral cavity may be an important reservoir for SARS-CoV-2. Some authors have suggested that the use of mouthrinses could reduce SARS-CoV-2 viral load in the saliva. Thus, the aim of this review was to synthesize evidence about the efficacy of mouthrinses in reducing the salivary viral load of SARS-CoV-2. 2. Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have investigated the efficacy of different mouthrinses in reducing salivary SARS-CoV-2 loads. Various active ingredients have been tested in these trials: 0.5%,1% and 2% povidone-iodine, 0.2% and 0.12% chlorhexidine (CHX), 0.075% cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), 0.075% CPC with Zinc lactate, 1% and 1.5% hydrogen peroxide (HP), 1.5% HP + 0.12% CHX and ß-cyclodextrin and citrox. The studies reported an intra-group reduction in the salivary levels of the virus, when compared with the baseline. However, the majority of these trials failed to demonstrate a significant inter-group difference between active groups and the control group relative to the decrease in salivary SARS-CoV-2 loads. Although promising, these results should be confirmed by larger trials.

ABSTRACT Determining what and how much each environmental factor affects pregnancy is crucial to the sustainability and management of beef cow herds. The study evaluated through logistic regression the effect of environmental variables on the increase or reduction in the pregnancy rate of beef cows. The average pregnancy rate in the cows was 73 %, with an average age for the herd of 3.7 years. An increase in age of one year represented a 30 % increase in pregnancy, while a reduction of one year reduced the odds of pregnancy in the cows by 23 %. During the lactation period, an extra seven days’ lactation reduced the odds of pregnancy by 12 %. For every seven days that weaning was brought forward, the cows’ pregnancy odds increased by 14 %. An increase of 0.1 kg in average daily gain represented an increase of 17 % and 15 % in the odds of pregnancy during the first 60 days post-partum and 60 days to the end of the reproductive period. On the other hand, the loss of 0.1 kg in average daily gain resulted in a 14 % and 13 % reduction in the cows’ pregnancy odds, respectively. Factors such as age, the precocity of calving in the calving season, the time the calf remains with the cow and better performance in cows between calving and the end of the mating are strategies that increase the chances of pregnancy in beef cows.

Food additives are chemical substances added to improve organoleptic characteristics, in this context, there are several synthetic dyes, such as sunset yellow, tartrazine, erioglaucine, allura red, indigo carmine, and new coccine, that can also be identified through different analytical techniques such as infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector and mass spectrometry. Therefore, the objective of this work was to compare methods developed for different analytical techniques, in order to identify the one that presents greater efficiency in certain applications. For this, the patterns of the dyes were analyzed, as well as their mixtures and foods that had them. As a result, the CLAE-DAD presents excellent selectivity and linearity of the calibration curves, but it presents higher LD and LQ values when compared to the UV-Vis, in turn the infrared provides information regarding functional groups and bonds. Mass spectrometry showed great capabilities in identifying the molecular formula and better selectivity in the absence of the erioglaucine dye. It is not feasible to indicate the best or worst analytical approach, but it is possible to point out which one is more suitable for each application. Regarding the quantification capacity, chromatography and UV-Vis are good alternatives, but in mixtures containing more than one dye, CLAE-DAD is more suitable due to the better selectivity. Regarding the identification capacity, mass spectrometry, especially FT-ICR MS, is the most appropriate technique to propose molecular formulas due to its high resolution and mass accuracy. The advantage of FTIR was the easier sample preparation, being able to analyze the dyes in the solid state.

Abstract Potential variables for the reproductive success of beef cows were evaluated. Included in the model were the age of the cow at calving; the interval between the Julian calving date and the end of the breeding season; the body weight and conditions at calving, at 75 days post-partum and at the end of the breeding season; and the mean daily variation in weight between these dates. Logistic regression was used in the analysis, with the parameters evaluated using the odds ratio statistic, estimating the chance of pregnancy. The mean rate of pregnancy was 84% and 55% for early and late-weaned cows, respectively. For early weaned cows, the regression variables were the Julian calving date, age of the cow, weight gain from calving to 75 days post-partum, and from 75 days post-partum to the end of the reproductive period. For late-weaned cows, there were only two regression variables, weight at calving and weight gain from calving to the end of the reproductive period. For every year above the average age of the herd, early weaned cows have an 80.9% greater chance of pregnancy, while a reduction of one year reduces the chance of pregnancy by 44.7%. In early weaned cows, every seven days after the mean Julian calving date reduces the chances of pregnancy by 22.6%, whereas every seven days before the mean calving date increases pregnancy by 29.2%. Greater gains in cow body weight, from calving to the end of the reproductive period, determine a greater probability of pregnancy.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Eyelid xanthelasma is the most common form of cutaneous xanthoma, characterized by yellowish patches on the eyelid’s skin. Despite being a benign condition and not presenting with functional limitations, it is an important aesthetic complaint that impacts the patient’s social and emotional life. There are clinical therapeutic options, but the most widespread approach is the surgical approach with excision of the lesions, a simple procedure with few complications and lower local recurrence rates. This study aims to describe the surgical treatment of palpebral xanthelasma, to assess postoperative patient satisfaction and post-surgical recurrence rates. Methods: This is a retrospective study with a sample of 25 patients undergoing surgical treatment of eyelid xanthelasmas. Postoperative follow-up was performed at intervals of 7 days, 30 days, 90 days and 12 months with an interview, physical examination and application of a questionnaire that included the identification of local recurrences, postoperative complications and satisfaction with the aesthetic result. Results: Four patients evolved with local recurrence, and only two expressed dissatisfaction with the aesthetic result after the outcome. No patient who underwent surgical resection of lesions associated with autograft recurrence or dissatisfaction with the aesthetic result was observed. Conclusions: Surgical treatment as the first option in the therapeutic approach of eyelid xanthelasmas should be considered, given the aesthetic and psychological impact of such a condition. It is a simple technique, easy to apply and reproducible, effective, and safe, with relevant satisfaction rates and low recurrences.

RESUMO Introdução: O xantelasma palpebral é a forma mais comum de xantoma cutâneo, caracterizado por placas amareladas localizadas na pele das pálpebras. Apesar de ser uma condição benigna e não cursar com limitação funcional, é uma importante queixa estética que tem impacto na vida social e emocional do portador. Existem opções terapêuticas clínicas, mas a abordagem mais difundida é a cirúrgica com excisão das lesões, procedimento simples, com poucas complicações e menores taxas de recidivas locais. O objetivo deste estudo é descrever o tratamento cirúrgico do xantelasma palpebral, avaliar a satisfação dos pacientes no pós-operatório e as taxas de recidivas pós-cirúrgicas. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo retrospectivo realizado com uma amostra de 25 pacientes submetidos a tratamento cirúrgico de xantelasmas palpebrais. O acompanhamento pós-operatório foi realizado em intervalos de 7 dias, 30 dias, 90 dias e 12 meses com entrevista, exame físico e aplicação de questionário que contemplaram identificação de recidivas locais, complicações pós-operatórias e satisfação com o resultado estético. Resultados: Quatro pacientes evoluíram com recidiva local e apenas dois pacientes manifestaram insatisfação com o resultado estético após o desfecho final. Em nenhum paciente submetido a ressecção cirúrgica das lesões associadas à autoenxertia foi observada recorrência ou insatisfação com o resultado estético. Conclusões: O tratamento cirúrgico como primeira opção na abordagem terapêutica dos xantelasmas palpebrais deve ser considerado, visto o impacto estético e psicológico de tal afecção. É uma técnica simples, de fácil aplicação e reprodutibilidade, eficaz, segura, com relevantes taxas de satisfação e baixa ocorrência de recidivas.

Main altered characteristics in the meat of young cattle of different sexual conditions supplemented in tropical pasture

Abstract The aim was to identify the predominant variables in the differentiation of meat quality of cattle submitted to surgical castration, immunocastration, or non-castration and finished in a tropical pasture. Thirty-nine crossbred cattle were used and distributed in three treatments: i) surgical castration; ii) immunocastration; and iii) non-castration, with an initial mean age of 14.06±0.72 months and a mean weight of 284.10±31.40 kg. We used the principal component analysis to differentiate the qualitative meat characteristics between the treatments. Based on that analysis, we found that the first three principal components explained 71.44% of the total variation in the meat quality data, which ensures that the variation found is associated with the effect of the treatments. The characteristics correlated with the first three principal components and responsible for the discrimination between sexual conditions were subcutaneous fat thickness, instrumental meat color, cooking loss and shear force. These characteristics were similar among castrated animals, regardless of the methods. Therefore, immunological castration preserves the attributes of the meat and prevents possible damage to the physical and mental integrity of the animals. Finally, principal component analysis is an important methodology in the objective investigation of beef meat attributes.

Abstract Background: Patients using immunosuppressive drugs may have unfavorable results after infections. However, there is a lack of information regarding COVID 19 in these patients, especially in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors associated with COVID 19 hospitalizations in patients with RA. Methods: This multicenter, prospective cohort study is within the ReumaCoV Brazil registry and included 489 patients with RA. In this context, 269 patients who tested positive for COVID 19 were compared to 220 patients who tested negative for COVID 19 (control group). All patient data were collected from the Research Electronic Data Capture database. Results: The participants were predominantly female (90.6%) with a mean age of 53 ±12 years. Of the patients with COVID 19, 54 (20.1%) required hospitalization. After multiple adjustments, the final regression model showed that heart disease (OR =4.61, 95% CI 1.06–20.02. P < 0.001) and current use of glucocorticoids (OR =20.66, 95% CI 3.09–138. P < 0.002) were the risk factors associated with hospitalization. In addition, anosmia was associated with a lower chance of hospitalization (OR =0.26; 95% CI 0.10–0.67, P < 0.005). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that heart disease and the use of glucocorticoids were associated with a higher number of hospital admissions for COVID 19 in patients with RA. RESUMO O Uruguai sempre foi um país singular na América Latina, visto como exemplo de estabilidade, e isso não foi afetado mesmo com o realinhamento do sistema de partidos – antes bipartidário – ocorrido a partir da criação da Frente Ampla. A despeito disso, este artigo identifica, com base nas primárias e eleições nacionais de 2019, principalmente por meio de análise qualitativa de dados, mas também com evidências quantitativas, indícios de um desalinhamento e de novo realinhamento do sistema partidário. A análise da correlação de forças das frações dos partidos tradicionais e a comparação dos últimos pleitos com o histórico eleitoral de outros partidos além de colorados, blancos e Frente Ampla são o que permite tal diagnóstico. Percebem-se a emergência de agremiações antipartido ou fora da clivagem direita-esquerda e o aumento tanto da fragmentação partidária como do voto conservador.

ABSTRACT Uruguay has always been a unique country in Latin America, seen as an example of stability, and this image was not affected even with the realignment of the party system – previously bipartisan – that took place after the creation of the Broad Front. Despite this, this article identifies, based on the 2019 primaries and national elections, mainly through qualitative data analysis, but also bringing to the surface quantitative evidence, signs of misalignment and a new realignment of the party system. An analysis of the correlation of forces within the fractions of the traditional parties and the comparison of the last elections with the electoral history of other parties besides the Colorados , the Blancos , and Broad Front allows such a diagnosis. The emergence of anti-party associations or groups that place themselves outside the right-left categorization is noticeable, as well as the increase in both party fragmentation and the conservative vote.

RESUMEN Uruguay siempre ha sido un país único en América Latina, visto como un ejemplo de estabilidad, y esto no se ha visto afectado ni siquiera con la realineación del sistema de partidos – anteriormente bipartidista – que tuvo lugar desde la creación del Frente Amplio. A pesar de ello, este artículo identifica, basándose en las elecciones primarias y nacionales de 2019, principalmente a través de análisis de datos cualitativos, pero también con pruebas cuantitativas, evidencia de desalineación y realineación del sistema de partidos. El análisis de la correlación de fuerzas de las fracciones de partidos tradicionales y la comparación de los últimos alegatos con la historia electoral de otros partidos además de colorados, blancos y Frente Amplio son lo que permite este diagnóstico. Se puede ver la aparición de agrupamientos antipartidistas o fuera del clivaje derecha-izquierda y el aumento de la fragmentación de los partidos como del voto conservador.

RÉSUMÉ L’Uruguay a toujours été un pays unique en Amérique latine, considéré comme un exemple de stabilité, et qui n’a pas été affecté même avec le réalignement du système des partis – autrefois bipartite – qui a eu lieu après la création de la Frente Amplio . Malgré cela, cet article identifie, sur la base des primaires et des élections nationales de 2019, principalement à travers l’analyse de données qualitatives, mais aussi avec des preuves quantitatives, des évidences d’un désalignement et d’un nouveau réalignement du système des partis. L’analyse de la corrélation des forces des fractions des partis traditionnels et la comparaison des dernières élections avec l’histoire électorale d’autres partis que Colorados, Blancos et Frente Ampla permet ce diagnostic. On constate l’émergence de groupes antipartis ou en dehors du clivage droite-gauche et l’augmentation à la fois de la fragmentation des partis et du vote conservateur.

RESUMO Objetivo: Determinar os fatores associados à complexidade alta da farmacoterapia em pacientes com doença arterial coronariana. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo transversal em um ambulatório multiprofissional de cardiologia na Atenção Secundária do Sistema Único de Saúde, de onde foram coletadas características sociodemográficas (idade, sexo e escolaridade), clínicas (número de condições de saúde, diagnósticos cardiovasculares e comorbidades) e farmacoterápicas (adesão, polifarmácia e polifarmácia cardiovascular). Essas características foram relacionadas com a complexidade da farmacoterapia, mensurada por meio do Índice de Complexidade da Farmacoterapia. A classificação em complexidade alta da farmacoterapia foi realizada empregando a normatização para idosos e a estratificação para pacientes adultos, sugeridas na literatura. Resultados: A complexidade da farmacoterapia total dos 148 pacientes apresentou mediana igual a 17,0 (amplitude interquartílica de 10,5). Na análise univariada, os fatores associados à complexidade alta foram insuficiência cardíaca, diabetes mellitus, hipertensão arterial, cinco ou mais doenças e não adesão. No modelo final, após regressão logística, houve associação estatisticamente significante (p<0,05) com as variáveis diabetes mellitus, hipertensão arterial e não adesão. Conclusão: A complexidade alta da farmacoterapia em pacientes com doença arterial coronariana foi associada à presença de diabetes mellitus, hipertensão arterial e relato de não adesão a medicamentos

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the factors associated with the high complexity of medication regimen in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a multiprofessional cardiology outpatient clinic, in the Secondary Care of the Unified Health System, where sociodemographic (age, sex, and education), clinical (number of health conditions, cardiovascular diagnoses, and comorbidities) and pharmacotherapeutic (adherence, polypharmacy, and cardiovascular polypharmacy) characteristics were collected. These were related to complexity of medication regimen, measured through the medication regimen complexity index. The classification of high complexity of medication regimen was carried out using standardization for the older adults and stratification for adult patients, as suggested in the literature. Results: The total complexity medication regimen of 148 patients had a median of 17.0 (interquartile range of 10.5). In the univariate analysis, the factors associated with high complexity were heart failure, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, five or more diseases, and non-adherence to treatment. In the final model, after logistic regression, there was a statistically significant association (p<0.05) with the variables diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and non-adherence. Conclusion: The high complexity of medication regimen in patients with coronary artery disease was associated with the presence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and reports of non-adherence to treatment.

Resumo Racional Considerando que o tratamento das fístulas anais tem risco de incontinência fecal e o crescente uso do Aloe Vera na medicina, há interesse em se pesquisar este fármaco. Objetivo Avaliar a eficácia do extrato de Aloe vera no tratamento das fístulas anais em ratos. Método Utilizou-se 30 ratos Wistar, os quais foram submetidos à criação de fístula anal e após 30 dias distribuídos em três grupos: Controle (GCo), Carbopol (GCa) e Aloe Vera (GAV). No GCo nenhum tratamento foi realizado, enquanto nos outros realizou-se infusão diária de 0,3 mL de Carbopol GCa e Carbopol mais extrato de Aloe Vera no GAV por 30 dias. Foram retirados os espécimes para estudo histológico, avaliou-se o fechamento do trajeto fistuloso, a área do trajeto remanescente, o infiltrado inflamatório e o grau de congestão vascular. Resultados Não houve fechamento completo do trajeto fistuloso em nenhum dos animais. A média da área do trajeto remanescente foi 847,2 µm no GCo; 565,6 µm no GCa e 377,8 µm no GAV (p < 0,05). A média do escore de infiltrado inflamatório foi 2,4 no GCo; 2,4 no GCa e 2,3 no GAV (p > 0.05), enquanto na avaliação da congestão vascular observou-se média 1,6 no GCo; 1,4 no GCa e 1,1 no GAV (p < 0,05). Conclusão O extrato de Aloe Vera foi capaz de diminuir o lumen dos trajetos fistulosos e reduzir o grau de congestão vascular, porém, não permitiu o fechamento completo dos trajetos fistulosos nem diminuiu o processo inflamatório.

Abstract Rationale Considering that anal fistulae are still challenging regarding their treatment due to the risk of fecal incontinence in the most complex cases and the increasing use of phytotherapeutic drugs such as Aloe Vera in medicine, even with proven healing effectiveness, there is interest in researching this drug in the treatment of anal fistulae. Objective To evaluate the efficacy ofAloe Vera extract in the treatment of anal fistulae in rats. Method Thirty male Wistar rats weighing 250–300 g were submitted to anal fistula and after 30 days were divided into three groups: Control Group (GCo) (n = 5), Carbopol Group (GCa) (n = 5), and Aloe Vera Group (GAV) (n = 10). In the GCo no treatment was performed, while in the others a daily infusion of 0.3 mL of solution (Carbopol only in GCa and Carbopol plus Aloe Vera extract in the GAV) was performed through the external orifice of the fistula for 30 days. Afterwards, euthanasia was performed and specimens were removed for histological study. It was evaluated the closure of the fistulous tract, the area of the remaining tract, the inflammatory infiltrate and the degree of vascular congestion. The results were submitted to statistical treatment by Kruskall–Wallis test, considering p < 0.05. Results There was no complete closure of the fistulous tract in any of the animals. The mean area of the remaining tract was 847.2 µm in the GCo, 565.6 µm in the GCa and 377.8 µm in the GAV (p < 0.05). The mean of the inflammatory infiltrate score was 2.4 in the GCo, 2.4 in the GCa and 2.3 in the GAV (p > 0.05), while in the evaluation of vascular congestion, we observed a mean of 1.6 in the GCo, 1.4 in GCa and 1.1 in GAV (p < 0.05). Conclusion The extract of Aloe vera was able to reduce the lumen of the fistulous tract and reduce the degree of vascular congestion; however, it did not allow the complete closure of the fistulous tract nor diminished the inflammatory process.

ABSTRACT: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of internal bleaching on physical proprieties and ultrastructure of the bovine dentin.40 bovine incisors were used, divided in four experimental groups: control group, composed by teeth that did not receive the bleaching agent (G1); teeth submitted to a single internal bleaching session (G2); teeth submitted to two internal bleaching sessions (G3); teeth submitted to three internal bleaching sessions (G4). In each of the sessions, 35 % hydrogen peroxide was applied for 45 minutes on the dentin surface. Tests were performed (microhardness and roughness) and were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post-hoc test (p≤0.05). Electromicrographs were captured for quality analysis. In the analysis of the superficial microhardness of the dentin, the internal bleaching reduced the Knoop microhardness since the first session, being observed statistically significant differences between the experimental groups and the control. The surface roughness gradually increased in the G2, G3 and G4 groups, but only G4 presented a statistically significant difference from the others. The qualitatively evaluated electromicrographs showed damage to the dentin ultrastructure, with areas of erosion and greater involvement of the intertubular when compared to peritubular dentin. Internal bleaching with 35 % hydrogen peroxide caused injuries in bovine dentin from the first treatment session. Both modifications in physical properties and dentin ultrastructure have been identified. These changes were intensified the higher the number of dentin internal bleaching sessions was exposed.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar el efecto del blanqueamiento interno sobre las propiedades físicas y la ultraestructura de la dentina bovina. Se utilizaron 40 incisivos bovinos, divididos en cuatro grupos experimentales: grupo de control, compuesto por dientes que no recibieron el agente blanqueador (G1); dientes sometidos a una única sesión interna de blanqueamiento (G2); dientes sometidos a dos sesiones internas de blanqueamiento (G3); dientes sometidos a tres sesiones internas de blanqueamiento (G4). En cada una de las sesiones, se aplicó peróxido de hidrógeno al 35 % durante 45 minutos en la superficie de la dentina. Se realizaron pruebas (microdureza y rugosidad). Los datos se analizaron mediante análisis de varianza de una vía (ANOVA) y prueba post-hoc de Tukey (p≤0,05). Las electromicrografías fueron capturadas para el análisis cualitativo. En el análisis de la microdureza superficial de la dentina, el blanqueamiento interno redujo la microdureza de Knoop desde la primera sesión, observándose diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos experimentales y el control [NF2]. La rugosidad superficial aumentó gradualmente en los grupos G2, G3 y G4, pero solo G4 presentó una diferencia estadísticamente significativa con respecto a los otros [NF3]. Las electromicrografías evaluadas cualitativamente mostraron daño a la ultraestructura de la dentina, con áreas de erosión y una mayor participación de la dentina intertubular en comparación con la dentina peritubular. El blanqueamiento interno con peróxido de hidrógeno al 35 % causó lesiones en la dentina bovina en la primera sesión del tratamiento. Ambas modificaciones, en propiedades físicas y en la ultraestructura dentinaria, han sido identificadas. Estos cambios se intensificaron a medida que se expuso a mayor número de sesiones de blanqueamiento interno en la dentina.

Resumo Fundamento: Na menopausa, há maior exposição celular ao estresse oxidativo, relacionada à diminuição dos efeitos antioxidantes do estrogênio. Essas alterações metabólicas favorecem a progressão das doenças cardiovasculares, como a aterosclerose. A função anormal da aorta - a artéria mais importante - está associada a muitas doenças cardiovasculares. O colágeno, especialmente os tipos I e III, é um dos mais importantes componentes da parede da aorta e pode ser afetado por muitos fatores, incluindo a menopausa. Por sua vez, 8-OHdG é um dos principais marcadores de danos oxidativos do DNA induzidos por espécies reativas de oxigênio (EROS). Objetivo: Investigar os efeitos do treinamento aeróbico moderado na aorta ascendente de camundongos fêmeas, nocaute para LDL (LDL-KO) e ovariectomizadas. Métodos: Um total de 15 animais C57BL/6 e 15 animais LDL-KO foram divididos em grupos experimentais. A espessura e a densidade de volume das fibras de colágeno tipos I e III foram realizadas por análise morfoquantitativa; MMP-2 e MMP-9 e 8-OHdG foram detectadas por imunohistoquímica; e a apoptose foi detectada pelo ensaio TUNEL. O nível de significância adotado para todos os testes realizados foi p < 0,05. Resultados: o exercício causa aumento da espessura da aorta em grupos LDL-KO, particularmente acentuada em grupos ovariectomizados. As fibras de colágeno de tipo I mostraram aumento da densidade de volume influenciado pelo treinamento em animais controle e LDL-KO. A densidade do colágeno tipo III diminuiu em ambos os grupos. A MMP-2 mostrou imunomarcação moderada na túnica média em animais LDL-KO; em grupos controle, a MMP-9 marcou irregularmente em todos os tecidos. O marcador 8-OHdG foi mais forte nos grupos de treinamento de exercícios. Além disso, a ovariectomia, o treinamento físico e os tratamentos de LDL-KO aumentaram a apoptose. Conclusão: Esses resultados sugerem que exercícios aeróbicos de intensidade moderada em camundongos ovariectomizados associados ao aumento da taxa de LDL, possivelmente, aumentam o estresse oxidativo e a indução da apoptose.

Abstract Background: In menopause, there is greater cellular exposure to oxidative stress, related to the decreased antioxidative effects of estrogen. These metabolic changes favor the progression of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis. Abnormal function of the aorta - the most important artery - is associated with many cardiovascular diseases. Collagen, especially types I and III, is one of the most important aortic wall components and it can be affected by many factors, including menopause. The 8-OHdG is one of the main markers of DNA oxidative damage induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Objective: We aimed to investigate effects of moderate aerobic training on the ascending aorta of LDL-knockout (LDL-KO) and ovariectomized female mice. Methods: A total of 15 C57BL/6 mice and 15 LDL-KO mice were divided into experimental groups. The thickness and volume density of types I and III collagen fibers were performed by morphoquantitative analysis, whereas the MMP-2 and MMP-9 and 8-OHdG were detected by immunohistochemistry and apoptosis was detected by the TUNEL assay. The significance level for all tests was p < 0.05. Results: Exercise causes an increase in the thickness of the aorta in LDL-KO groups, particularly accentuated in the ovariectomized groups. The type I collagen fibers showed an increase in volume density influenced by training in both Control groups and in the LDL-KO group. Type III collagen density decreased in both groups. The MMP-2 showed moderade immunostaining in the tunica media in LDL-KO groups, which did not occur in the control groups and the MMP-9 stained irregularly in all tissues. The marker 8-OhdG was stronger in the exercise training groups. Additionally, the ovariectomy, the exercise training and the LDL-KO treatments increased apoptosis. Conclusion: These results suggest that moderate-intensity aerobic exercise in ovariectomized mice associated to an increase in LDL rate possibly increases oxidative stress and apoptosis induction.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar a eficácia do extrato de Baccharis dracunculifolia no tratamento de fístulas anais em ratos. Métodos: vinte ratos Wistar machos foram submetidos à confecção de fístula anal e, após 30 dias, foram distribuídos em três grupos: Grupo Controle, com cinco animais; Grupo Carbopol, com cinco animais; e Grupo Baccharis dracunculifolia, com dez animais. No Grupo Controle, não se realizou nenhum tratamento. No Grupo Carbopol, realizou-se infusão diária de carbopol, e no Grupo Baccharis dracunculifolia, infusão de extrato de Baccharis dracunculifolia com carbopol, ambos por 30 dias. Foram retirados espécimes para análise histológica após a eutanásia. Resultados: não houve fechamento completo do trajeto fistuloso em nenhum dos animais. A média da área do trajeto resultante foi de 847,2µm2, 565,6µm2 e 372,7µm2, respectivamente, nos Grupos Controle, Carbopol e Baccharis dracunculifolia (p=0,001). A média do escore de processo inflamatório foi de 2,4, 2,4 e 2,1, respectivamente, nos Grupos Controle, Carbopol e Baccharis dracunculifolia (p=0,285), enquanto a média de congestão vascular foi de 1,6, 1,4 e 1,1, respectivamente, nos Grupos Controle, Carbopol e Baccharis dracunculifolia (p=0,031). Conclusão: o extrato de Baccharis dracunculifolia foi capaz de reduzir o lúmen dos trajetos fistulosos e a congestão vascular, sem reduzir, no entanto, o processo inflamatório local ou fechar totalmente os trajetos fistulosos.

The mean of the inflammatory process score was of 2.4, 2.4, and 2.1, in the Control Group, Carbopol Group, and Baccharis dracunculifolia Group, respectively, (p=0.285), while the mean values of vascular congestion were of 1.6, 1.4, and 1.1, in the Control Group, Carbopol Group, and Baccharis dracunculifolia Group, respectively, (p=0.031). Conclusion: Baccharis dracunculifolia extract was able to reduce the lumen of the fistulous tracts and the degree of vascular congestion, without, however, reducing the local inflammatory process or totally closing the fistulous tracts.
