ABSTRACT Parkia platycephala, known commonly as faveira, is a native species that occurs widely throughout Brazil and has high nutritional value and ecological potential. The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic variability in a P. platycephala provenance and progeny test. The test was established using a randomized block design, with 45 progenies from three provenances. The evaluated quantitative traits included height (HEI), diameter at ground level (DGL), and diameter below the first bifurcation (DFB). The data were submitted to Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (REML/BLUP) analysis, from which estimates of genetic parameters, genetic correlations, BLUPs, genetic gains, and effective population size were obtained. Estimates of individual narrow sense heritability ( h a 2) and within progeny heritability ( h w 2) ranged from low to moderate (0.01 a 0.39), with the highest values observed for DGL (0.32 and 0.39, respectively). The coefficient of individual variation (CVgi(%)) and between progeny genetic variation (CVgp(%)) indicate the existence of genetic variability between and within provenances. The FSTvalues demonstrate low to moderate genetic differentiation among the three populations, and genetic correlations between traits were all positive and significant. The results obtained show that there is genetic variability between the studied provenances and progenies. This ensures not only the ex situ conservation of the species, but it can also be exploited in breeding programs.

RESUMO Parkia platycephala, popularmente conhecida como faveira, é uma espécie nativa que ocorre amplamente em todo o Brasil e possui alto valor nutricional e potencial ecológico. Objetivou-se com o trabalho estimar a variabilidade genética em teste de procedências e progênies de P. platycephala. O teste foi instalado em blocos casualizados, com 45 progênies de três procedências. Os caracteres quantitativos avaliados foram: altura (ALT), diâmetro a nível do solo (DNS) e diâmetro a altura da primeira bifurcação (DAB) das plantas. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de REML/BLUP, a partir da qual foram obtidas as estimativas de parâmetros genéticos, correlações genéticas, os BLUP’s, ganhos genéticos e tamanho efetivo populacional. As estimativas de herdabilidade individual no sentido restrito ( h a 2) e dentro progênies ( h w 2) variaram de baixa a moderada (0,01 a 0,39), sendo os maiores valores observados para o caractere DNS (0,32 e 0,39, respectivamente). Os valores de coeficiente de variação genética individual CVgi(%)) e entre progênies (CVgp(%)) indicam existência de variabilidade genética entre e dentro de população. Os valores de FSTdemonstraram baixa a moderada diferenciação genética entre as três populações. As correlações genéticas entre os caracteres foram todas positivas e significativas. Os resultados obtidos mostram que há variabilidade genética entre as procedências e progênies estudadas. Isso garante não só a conservação ex situ da espécie, como também pode ser explorada em programas de melhoramento

RESUMO A Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Legado Verdes do Cerrado abriga a maior área contígua particular de vegetação nativa do bioma Cerrado, porém, com flora ainda pouco estudada. Objetivou-se realizar estudo florístico e fitossociológico em quatro fitofisionomias da Reserva (cerrado sentido restrito, cerradão, mata seca e mata ciliar). Foram instaladas de forma sistemática 80 parcelas de 10 x 10 m, 20 em cada fitofisionomia. Todos os indivíduos lenhosos vivos com diâmetro à altura do peito ≥ 5 cm e altura superior a 130 cm foram mensurados. No total, foram amostrados 933 indivíduos vivos, densidade estimada em 1.166 ind ha-1, pertencentes a 154 espécies e 46 famílias. A diversidade e a equabilidade foram avaliadas em 4,47 nats ind-1 e 0,88, respectivamente. A distribuição diamétrica dos indivíduos apresentou exponencial negativo (J-reverso) e a de classes de altura mostrou tendência à distribuição normal. A riqueza de espécies e os parâmetros estruturais obtidos estão dentro dos valores encontrados para vegetações nativas, com exceção do cerrado sentido restrito.

ABSTRACT The Legado Verdes do Cerrado Sustainable Development Reserve is home to the largest private contiguous area of native vegetation in the Cerrado (Brazilian Savanna) biome, but its flora is still little studied. A floristic and phytosociological study was carried out in four phytophysiognomies of the Reserve (cerrado sensu stricto, cerradão, dry forest and ciliary forest). Eighty 10 x 10-m plots were systematically installed, with 20 in each phytophysiognomy. All live woody individuals with diameter at breast height ≥ 5 cm and height greater than 130 cm were measured. A total of 933 live individuals were sampled, with an estimated density of 1,166 ind ha-1, belonging to 154 species and 46 families. Diversity and equability were assessed at 4.47 nats ind-1 and 0.88, respectively. The diametric distribution of the individuals showed a negative exponential (reverse J), while the one for height classes showed a tendency towards normal distribution. Species richness and structural parameters were within the values found for native vegetation, except for the cerrado sensu stricto.

RESUMO A distribuição de diâmetros de uma floresta permite entender seus processos ecológicos e definir ações relacionadas ao manejo florestal visando a conservação da floresta, aumento da biodiversidade, produção e sequestro de carbono, entre outros. Este estudo buscou identificar variações na distribuição diamétrica em uma Mata Atlântica secundária, em função de sítios, ao longo de 24 anos. O diâmetro a 1,3 m de altura (dap) foi medido para cada árvore acima de 5,0 cm dap, em dez locais, de 1992 a 2016. Foi analisado o diâmetro médio quadrático (Dq), o incremento periódico anual em Dq (IPADq), o Quociente de Liocourt (q) e a distribuição de diâmetros com o modelo exponencial de Meyer. O IPADq médio em 24 anos foi de 0,03 cm ano-1, um aumento médio de 0,21%, com variação local de 0,74% a -0,45%. A distribuição de diâmetros da floresta como um todo manteve o formato de J-invertido ao longo de 24 anos. Quando os locais foram analisados em cada ano de inventário, a variação da distribuição de diâmetros foi evidente e houve diferenças na capacidade de recuperação da distribuição para a forma de J-invertido de 1992 a 2016. Os resultados indicam que, sempre que possível, o plano de manejo para recuperar a estrutura dos remanescentes da Mata Atlântica deve ser específica para cada local, particularmente na região montanhosa, onde as condições ambientais são bastante diversas.

ABSTRACT The diameter distribution of a forest makes it possible to understand its ecological processes and to define actions related to forest management aiming at forest conservation, biodiversity increase, production, and carbon sequestration, among others. This study aimed to identify variation in the diameter distribution in a secondary Atlantic Forest, as a function of sites, over 24 years. The diameter at 1.3 m in height (dbh) was measured for each tree over 5.0 cm dbh, in ten sites, from 1992 to 2016. It was analyzed the quadratic mean diameter (Dq), the Dq annual periodic increment (APIDq), the Liocourt’s Quotient (q), and the diameter distribution with Meyer’s exponential model. The average APIDq over 24 years was 0.03 cm year-1, an average increase of 0.21%, with site variation ranging from 0.74% to -0.45%. The diameter distribution of the forest as a whole maintained the reverse J-shaped over 24-years. When the sites in each inventory year were analyzed, the variation in the diameter distribution was evident, and there were differences in the recovery capacity of the reverse J-shaped distribution from 1992 to 2016. The overall results indicate that, whenever possible, the management plan to recover the structure of the Atlantic Forest remnants should be site-specific, particularly in the mountainous region where the environmental conditions are quite diverse.

RESUMO: O melhoramento florestal é uma ciência que tem tido desenvolvimento no Brasil desde o ano de 1941 e um gênero que obteve grande repercussão neste cenário foi o Eucalyptus . O Brasil apresenta-se em destaque no panorama mundial quanto à produtividade dos plantios de eucalipto, em virtude das condições ambientais favoráveis ao desenvolvimento da cultura e ao incentivo em pesquisas destinadas às melhorias dos caracteres de interesse, presentes em suas espécies e híbridos. Este trabalho inclui uma revisão histórica do melhoramento do eucalipto ao longo dos anos no Brasil, sob a ótica da genética biométrica, desde o relato que descreve o plantio pioneiro de suas espécies no país, até a atual aplicação de seleção genômica ampla (SGA), que surgiu como um complemento de sucesso no melhoramento florestal. A pesquisa ilustra ainda alguns dos caminhos percorridos por pesquisadores a fim de aumentar a produtividade e a qualidade dos caracteres fenotípicos do gênero Eucalyptus.

ABSTRACT: Forest breeding is a science that has been developing in Brazil since 1941 being the Eucalyptus a highlighted genus in this scenario. In a global scene, Brazil is displayed prominently in productivity of Eucalyptus planting, due to favorable environmental conditions to cultivation development, and the incentive in research for improvement of traits of interest t observed in it species and hybrids. This research included a historical review of Eucalyptus breeding over the years under genetic biometric perspective in Brazil, from reports describing the pioneer planting up to the current genome wide selection (GWS) that came as a complement of forest breeding success. This review showed some of the tracks performed by researchers aiming to improve the productive and quality of phenotypic traits from Eucalyptus genus.
