Abstract Background: Real-world, primary data on the treatment of psoriasis are scarce, especially concerning the role of soluble biomarkers as outcome predictors. Objective: The authors evaluated the utility of Th1/Th17 serum cytokines along with clinical characteristics as predictors of drug survival in the treatment of psoriasis. Methods: The authors consecutively included participants with moderate to severe psoriasis who were followed up for 6 years. Baseline interferon-α, tumor necrosis factor-α, and inter-leukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-17A were measured using a cytometric bead array; clinical data were assessed. The authors calculated hazard ratios (HRs) for drug survival using a Cox proportional hazards model. Results: The authors included 262 patients, most of whom used systemic immunosuppressants or biologics. In the multivariate model, poor quality of life measured by the Dermatology Life Quality Index (HR = 1.04; 95% CI 1.01–1.07; p = 0.012) and elevated baseline IL-6 (HR = 1.99; 95% CI 1.29–3.08; p = 0.002) were associated with treatment interruption. Study limitations: The main limitation of any cohort study is the presence of confounders that could not be detected in clinical evaluation. Conclusions: Poor quality of life and elevated baseline serum IL-6 level predicted treatment interruption in patients with moderate to severe psoriasis. Although IL-6 is not the most important mediator of the inflammatory pathway in the skin environment, it is an interesting biomarker candidate for predicting psoriasis treatment response.

Abstract Background Sjogren-Larsson syndrome (SLS) is a neurocutaneous disease with an autosomal recessive inheritance, caused by mutations in the gene that encodes fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH3A2), clinically characterized by ichthyosis, spastic diplegia, and cognitive impairment. Brain imaging plays an essential role in the diagnosis, demonstrating a nonspecific leukoencephalopathy. Data regarding brain atrophy and grey matter involvement is scarce and discordant. Objective We performed a volumetric analysis of the brain of two siblings with SLS with the aim of detecting deep grey matter nuclei, cerebellar grey matter, and brainstem volume reduction in these patients. Methods Volume data obtained from the brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the two patients using an automated segmentation software (Freesurfer) was compared with the volumes of a healthy control group. Results Statistically significant volume reduction was found in the cerebellum cortex, the brainstem, the thalamus, and the pallidum nuclei. Conclusion Volume reduction in grey matter leads to the hypothesis that SLS is not a pure leukoencephalopathy. Grey matter structures affected in the present study suggest a dysfunction more prominent in the thalamic motor pathways.

Resumo Antecedentes A Síndrome de Sjogren-Larsson (SSL) é uma doença neurocutânea de herança autossômica recessiva, causada por mutações no gene que codifica a aldeído graxo desidrogenase (ALDH3A2), caracterizada clinicamente por ictiose, diplegia espástica e comprometimento cognitivo. A imagiologia cerebral desempenha um papel essencial no diagnóstico, demonstrando uma leucoencefalopatia inespecífica. Dados sobre atrofia cerebral e envolvimento da substância cinzenta são escassos e discordantes. Objetivo Realizamos uma análise volumétrica do cérebro de dois irmãos com SLS com o objetivo de detectar núcleos profundos de substância cinzenta, substância cerebral cinzenta e redução do volume do tronco encefálico nestes pacientes. Métodos Os dados de volume obtidos da ressonância magnética (RM) cerebral dos dois pacientes usando um software de segmentação automática (Freesurfer) foram comparados com os volumes de um grupo controle saudável. Resultados Redução de volume estatisticamente significativa foi encontrada no córtex do cerebelo, no tronco cerebral, no tálamo e nos núcleos pálidos. Conclusão A redução do volume da substância cinzenta leva à hipótese de que a SSL não é uma leucoencefalopatia pura. As estruturas da substância cinzenta afetadas no presente estudo sugerem uma disfunção mais proeminente nas vias motoras talâmicas.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to map the world's scientific production of bacterial and fungal microbiota in mollusks. The research was carried out in the Web of Science database, using “Fungi AND Mollusk” and “Bacteria AND Mollusk” descriptors and publication time between 2001 and 2021. Indexes were built by years, countries, research areas, and two maps of the co-occurrence of terms. There was a progressive increase in the production of microbiota in mollusks, with more research on bacteria during the investigated period. China and USA were the countries with the highest percentage of publications. Research with fungi and bacteria accounted for 28.41 and 17.66% in China, respectively. While the USA, the percentage was 21.05% for fungi and 16.02% for bacteria. Areas such as marine and freshwater biology (24.77%), fisheries (23.86%), biochemistry and molecular biology (18.60%), and pharmacy (17.83%) showed a higher percentage of indexed articles. There was also a high concentration of deposits of publications in the immunology area for both themes. The groups formed for bacteria and fungi indicated that studies had described the immune responses of mollusks, the genetic aspects associated with their defense mechanisms, pathogen virulence factors, and symbiotic and pathogenic microbiota, highlighting genera Vibrio, Aspergillus, and Escherichia coli pathogenic pathotypes. The bacterial and fungal microbiota in mollusks have been studied in several areas of knowledge and have given rise to research that can support the proper management of mollusks, application in the pharmaceutical industry, and implementation of measures in public health.

ABSTRACT Over the past decade, the business of producing juice from grapes (Vitis labrusca L. and hybrids) has been expanding in response to increasing consumption encouraged by campaigns promoting the benefits grape juice can have on health. This study aimed to determine the effect of the production cycle, vine training system, and rootstock on the yield and physical and physical-chemical characteristics of ‘BRS Magna’ grapes grown in the Vale do Submédio São Francisco in the northeastern region of Brazil. The study was conducted in Petrolina, Pernambuco, over eight production cycles (2017 to 2020). The grapevines were trained in three vine training trellis systems: espalier, lyre, and pergola; and grafted onto two rootstocks: IAC 572 and IAC 766. The production cycle, training system, and rootstocks affected the yield components, vigor, and physical characteristics of the BRS Magna grapes. The combination of the pergola training system and rootstock IAC 766 stood out from the others, providing mean yields estimated at 26 t ha –1 per production cycle. The soluble solids content (SS), titratable acidity (TA), and SS TA –1 ratio were affected neither by the training system nor the rootstock, and higher values for SS and lower values for TA were obtained in the first, second, fourth and eighth production cycles. Thus, the pergola training system and rootstock IAC 766 are recommended for promoting yield gains in the ‘BRS Magna’ grape in the Vale do Submédio São Francisco.

RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar a variabilidade espacial da mortalidade por câncer de mama e colo do útero e avaliar fatores associados à mortalidade por esses cânceres no município de São Paulo. Métodos: Entre 2009 e 2016 foram registrados, no Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade, 10.124 óbitos por câncer de mama e 2.116 óbitos por câncer do colo do útero em mulheres com 20 anos e mais. Os registros foram geocodificados por endereço de residência e agregados segundo território adstrito. Foram realizadas modelagens de regressão espacial utilizando-se a abordagem bayesiana com estrutura de Besag-York-Mollié para verificar a associação dos óbitos com indicadores selecionados. Resultados: As taxas de mortalidade por esses cânceres apresentaram padrões espaciais inversos. As variáveis associadas à mortalidade por câncer de mama foram: tempo de deslocamento para o trabalho entre uma e duas horas (risco relativo — RR 0,97; intervalo de credibilidade — IC95% 0,93–1,00); mulheres responsáveis pelo domicílio (RR 0,97; IC95% 0,94–0,99) e óbitos por câncer de mama ocorridos em estabelecimentos privados (RR 1,04; IC95% 1,00–1,07). À mortalidade por câncer do colo do útero, estiveram associados: tempo de deslocamento para o trabalho entre meia e uma hora (RR 0,92; IC95% 0,87–0,98); rendimento domiciliar até três salários-mínimos (RR 1,27; IC95% 1,18–1,37); e razão de menores de um ano em relação à população feminina de 15 a 49 anos (RR 1,09; IC95% 1,01–1,18). Conclusão: Foram calculados os RR preditos para a mortalidade por esses cânceres, que estiveram associados às condições socioeconômicas das áreas de abrangência.

The following variables were associated with mortality from cervical cancer: travel time to work between half an hour and one hour (RR 0.92; 95%CI 0.87–0.98); per capita household income of up to 3 minimum wages (RR 1.27; 95%CI 1.18–1.37) and ratio of children under one year of age related to the female population aged 15 to 49 years (RR 1.09; 95%CI 1.01–1.18). Conclusion: The predicted RR for mortality from these cancers were calculated and associated with the socioeconomic conditions of the areas covered.

ABSTRACT Objective: A substantial number of people with COPD suffer from exacerbations, which are defined as an acute worsening of respiratory symptoms. To minimize exacerbations, telehealth has emerged as an alternative to improve clinical management, access to health care, and support for self-management. Our objective was to map the evidence of telehealth/telemedicine for the monitoring of adult COPD patients after hospitalization due to an exacerbation. Methods: Bibliographic search was carried in PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Web of Science, Scopus, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde/LILACS and Cochrane Library databases to identify articles describing telehealth and telemonitoring strategies in Portuguese, English, or Spanish published by December of 2021. Results: Thirty-nine articles, using the following concepts (number of articles), were included in this review: telehealth (21); telemonitoring (20); telemedicine (17); teleconsultation (5); teleassistance (4); telehomecare and telerehabilitation (3 each); telecommunication and mobile health (2 each); and e-health management, e-coach, telehome, telehealth care and televideo consultation (1 each). All these concepts describe strategies which use telephone and/or video calls for coaching, data monitoring, and health education leading to self-management or self-care, focusing on providing remote integrated home care with or without telemetry devices. Conclusions: This review demonstrated that telehealth/telemedicine in combination with telemonitoring can be an interesting strategy to benefit COPD patients after discharge from hospitalization for an exacerbation, by improving their quality of life and reducing re-hospitalizations, admissions to emergency services, hospital length of stay, and health care costs.

RESUMO Objetivo: Um número substancial de pessoas com DPOC sofre de exacerbações, definidas como uma piora aguda dos sintomas respiratórios. Para minimizar as exacerbações, a telessaúde surgiu como alternativa para melhorar o manejo clínico, o acesso aos cuidados de saúde e o apoio à autogestão. Nosso objetivo foi mapear as evidências de telessaúde/telemedicina para o monitoramento de pacientes adultos com DPOC após hospitalização por exacerbação. Métodos: Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nos bancos de dados PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Web of Science, Scopus, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde/LILACS e Cochrane Library para identificar artigos que descrevessem estratégias de telessaúde e telemonitoramento em português, inglês, ou espanhol, publicados até dezembro de 2021. Resultados: Trinta e nove artigos, utilizando os seguintes conceitos (número de artigos), foram incluídos nesta revisão: telessaúde (21); telemonitoramento (20); telemedicina (17); teleconsulta (5); teleassistência (4); telecuidado domiciliar e telerreabilitação (3 cada); telecomunicação e saúde móvel (2 cada); e gestão de e-saúde, e-coach, teledomicílio, cuidados de telessaúde e tele/videoconsulta (1 cada). Todos esses conceitos descrevem estratégias que utilizam chamadas telefônicas e/ou de vídeo para coaching, monitoramento de dados e educação em saúde levando à autogestão ou autocuidado, com foco na prestação de cuidados domiciliares remotos integrados, com ou sem dispositivos de telemetria. Conclusões: Esta revisão demonstrou que a telessaúde/telemedicina associada ao telemonitoramento pode ser uma estratégia interessante para beneficiar pacientes com DPOC após a alta hospitalar por exacerbação, por meio da melhora da qualidade de vida e da redução das re-hospitalizações, admissões em serviços de emergência, tempo de internação hospitalar e custos de cuidados de saúde.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic, with physical distancing measures and its consequences for occupations of adults and children, motivated this investigation, which aimed to analyze, from the perspective of family members, the influence of social distancing on the participation of 4 to 6-year-olds in their occupations, as well as identifying the resources available and used by families to promote participation in this context. This is a quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, via Google Forms, published on social networks and news sites. A total of 330 responses were obtained, with the majority of respondents being mothers, from the Southeast region, post-graduated and with family income predominantly above six minimum wages. About the children, the majority were white and with no disabilities. Among the changes perceived in occupations, achievements in communication, greater independence and participation in household and family tasks, excessive use of electronics, boredom and more elaborate play, difficulty for adults to accompany children, and strengthening of family ties, stood out. The family was mentioned as the main source of support and the teacher as a source of information for the families. Studies with greater sample diversity are suggested.

Resumo A pandemia da COVID-19, com as medidas de distanciamento físico e seus desdobramentos nas ocupações de adultos e crianças, motivou esta investigação, que teve como objetivo analisar, sob a perspectiva de familiares, a influência do distanciamento social na participação de crianças de 4 a 6 anos em suas ocupações, bem como identificar os recursos disponíveis e utilizados pelas famílias para promover a participação nesse contexto. Este é um estudo quantitativo, descritivo e exploratório. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário online, via GoogleForms, divulgado em redes sociais e sites de notícias. Obteve-se um total de 330 respostas, sendo a maioria das respondentes mães, da região Sudeste, pós-graduadas e com renda familiar predominantemente acima de seis salários mínimos. Sobre as crianças, a maioria era branca e sem deficiência. Dentre as mudanças percebidas nas ocupações, destacou-se conquistas na comunicação, maior independência e participação em tarefas domésticas e familiares, uso excessivo de eletrônicos, tédio e brincar mais elaborado, dificuldade dos adultos em acompanhar as crianças e fortalecimento de vínculos familiares. A família foi citada como a principal fonte de apoio e o professor como fonte de informação para as famílias. Sugere-se estudos com maior diversidade amostral.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to correlate depressive symptoms, attitude, and self-care of elderly people with type 2 diabetes. Methods: study developed with 144 elderly people with diabetes; carried out in Family Health Units. A semi-structured instrument was used to obtain data on the sociodemographic profile; the Geriatric Depression Scale (15 items), the Questionário de Atitudes Psicológicas do Diabetes [Psychological Attitudes of Diabetes Questionnaire], and the Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire (DSCA) were also used. Results: it was identified that 24.3% of the participants presented depressive symptoms, and 93.8% presented negative attitudes of coping. A greater adherence to self-care activities related to the practice of medication was observed. In the correlation between the scales, a negative and inversely proportional correspondence was noted between depressive symptomatology and physical activity (p=0.010) and foot care (p=0.006), likewise between attitude and foot care (p=0.009). Conclusions: self-care in elderly people with diabetes mellitus is influenced by depressive symptoms and negative coping attitudes.

RESUMEN Objetivos: correlacionar síntomas depresivos, actitud y autocuidado de personas ancianas con diabetes tipo 2. Métodos: estudio desarrollado con 144 ancianos con diabetes; realizado en Unidades de Salud de la Familia. Utilizados instrumento semiestructurado para obtener los datos referentes al perfil sociodemográfico, Escala de Depresión Geriátrica (15 ítems), Encuesta de Actitudes Psicológicas del Diabetes y de Actividades de Autocuidado con el Diabetes. Resultados: identificado que 24,3% de los participantes presentaron sintomatología depresiva; y 93,8%, actitudes negativas de enfrentamiento. Observado una mayor adhesión a las actividades de autocuidado relacionadas a la práctica medicamentosa. En la correlación entre las escalas, fue percibida una correspondencia negativa e inversamente proporcional entre sintomatología depresiva y actividad física (p=0,010) y cuidado con los pies (p=0,006), igualmente entre actitud y cuidado con los pies (p=0,009). Conclusiones: el autocuidado en personas ancianas con diabetes mellitus sufre influencia de los síntomas depresivos y de la actitud negativa en el enfrentamiento.

Métodos: estudo desenvolvido com 144 pessoas idosas com diabetes; realizado em Unidades de Saúde da Família. Utilizaram-se instrumento semiestruturado para obter os dados referentes ao perfil sociodemográfico, a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (15 itens), o Questionário de Atitudes Psicológicas do Diabetes e o de Atividades de Autocuidado com o Diabetes. Resultados: identificou-se que 24,3% dos participantes apresentaram sintomatologia depressiva; e 93,8%, atitudes negativas de enfrentamento. Observou-se uma maior adesão às atividades de autocuidado relacionadas à prática medicamentosa. Na correlação entre as escalas, foi percebida uma correspondência negativa e inversamente proporcional entre sintomatologia depressiva e atividade física (p=0,010) e cuidado com os pés (p=0,006), do mesmo modo entre atitude e cuidado com os pés (p=0,009). Conclusões: o autocuidado em pessoas idosas com diabetes mellitus sofre influência dos sintomas depressivos e da atitude negativa no enfrentamento.

ABSTRACT: Children’s play is recognized as an occupation that favors children’s development and autonomy. Studies carried out with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) showed impairments in participation in playing. This study aimed to describe the participation of children with typical development and with ASD in play situations in the context of Early Childhood Education. It was an exploratory and descriptive qualitative study that used the observation of playing behavior in school as an instrument of data collection. Six children between 4 and 5 years old participated in the research, three with typical development and three diagnosed with ASD. Although the study was not intended to make comparisons, the main results showed differences between the two groups. Children with ASD showed development of playful behavior not consistent with age and concrete play with absent or rudimentary social interaction. These results point to reflections in the context of Occupational Therapy for the development of strategies aimed at the participation of children in Early Childhood Education, indicating the need to promote mediated opportunities and/or with toys adapted according to the interests of children with ASD.

RESUMO: O brincar infantil é reconhecido como ocupação que favorece o desenvolvimento e a autonomia das crianças. Estudos realizados com crianças com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) evidenciaram comprometimentos na participação no brincar. Este estudo objetivou descrever a participação de crianças com desenvolvimento típico e com TEA em situações de brincadeiras no contexto da Educação Infantil. Tratou-se de um estudo de abordagem qualitativa do tipo exploratória e descritiva que empregou a observação do comportamento do brincar na escola como instrumento de coleta de dados. Participaram da pesquisa seis crianças entre 4 e 5 anos, sendo três com desenvolvimento típico e três diagnosticadas com TEA. Embora o estudo não tenha tido a intenção de estabelecer comparações, os principais resultados apontaram diferenças entre os dois grupos. Crianças com TEA evidenciaram desenvolvimento do comportamento lúdico não condizente com a idade e um brincar concreto e com interação social ausente ou rudimentar. Esses resultados apontam para reflexões no contexto da Terapia Ocupacional para o desenvolvimento de estratégias que visem a participação das crianças na Educação Infantil, indicando a necessidade de promoção de oportunidades mediadas e/ou com brinquedos adaptados de acordo com os interesses das crianças com TEA.

ABSTRACT In Brazil, the estimated number of new cancer cases between 2020 and 2022 is 625 thousand, and the most prevalent carcinomas are primarily skin (non-melanoma), followed by those of the breast, prostate, colon, and rectum. Although breast carcinoma still has a high mortality rate, it has a good prognosis due to the increase in early diagnosis and the evolution of anticancer treatments. The proposed treatment can be isolated or associated with resective surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and/or hormone replacement. Chemotherapy generates extensive immunosuppression and affects both healthy and altered cells, and the cytotoxicity of the treatment is an important effect that can cause lesions on the oral mucosa. Severity is related to the type of chemotherapeutic agent, treatment time, the dose used, and the individual’s age. Additionally, chemotherapy treatment can exacerbate preexisting conditions in the individual and cause greater discomfort during treatment. Therefore, monitoring oral health before, during, and after anticancer therapy is essential. The objective of this work is to report a clinical case of dental emergency in a patient after the first cycle of doxorubicin- cyclophosphamide-paclitaxel (ACTdd) to treat breast cancer.

RESUMO No Brasil, a estimativa de novos casos de câncer entre os anos 2020 a 2022 é de 625 mil, sendo os carcinomas mais prevalentes, principalmente os de pele (não melanoma), seguido pelos de mama e próstata, cólon e reto. O carcinoma de mama, embora ainda possua uma alta taxa de mortalidade, apresenta um bom prognóstico devido ao aumento do diagnóstico precoce e evolução dos tratamentos antineoplásicos. O tratamento proposto pode ser isolado ou associado, através de cirurgia ressectiva, radioterapia, quimioterapia e/ou reposição hormonal. A quimioterapia gera extensa imunossupressão e atinge tanto as células saudáveis como as alteradas, tendo a citotoxicidade do tratamento um importante efeito que pode gerar lesões na mucosa oral. A severidade está relacionada ao tipo de quimioterápico, ao tempo de tratamento, bem como à dose utilizada e à idade do indivíduo. Adicionalmente, o tratamento quimioterápico pode exacerbar condições previamente instaladas no indivíduo e causar um maior desconforto durante o tratamento. Desta forma, o monitoramento da saúde bucal antes, durante e após a terapia antineoplásica é essencial. O objetivo desse trabalho é relatar um caso clínico de urgência odontológica em uma paciente após o primeiro ciclo de doxorrubicina-ciclofosfamida-paclitaxel (ACTdd) para o tratamento de câncer de mama.

Abstract The ability of children to organize themselves sensorially in a school environment to remain engaged in their routine activities has been minimally explored by occupational therapists. This study aimed to identify research on sensory processing and engagement carried out by occupational therapists over the past decade. Moreover, it seeks to analyze the depth and quality of discussions regarding the relationship between sensory processing and children’s engagement in their occupations. A systematic review was conducted utilizing the descriptors: sensory processing, engagement, and occupational therapy. These descriptors were combined through the AND operator in the VHL, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. Included articles, whether in English or other languages, defined and measured sensory processing; highlighted a relationship between child sensory processing and occupational engagement; were published within the past 10 years (2008 to 2018); underwent peer-review; are available in full; involved participants aged 0 to 7 years; and were authored by occupational therapists. The review process was performed by two authors using predefined data fields, which included study quality indicators. The results identified a mere nine articles on this specific theme. An assessment based on the OT Seeker scale revealed scores of moderate magnitude. This suggests a pressing need for occupational therapists to invest in the expansion of discerning research, aiming to elevate scientific evidence regarding the relationship between sensory processing and occupational engagement.

Resumo A capacidade das crianças de se organizarem sensorialmente em ambiente escolar para se manterem engajadas em suas atividades rotineiras tem sido pouco explorada por terapeutas ocupacionais. Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar pesquisas sobre processamento sensorial e engajamento realizadas por terapeutas ocupacionais na última década, bem como avaliar a qualidade das discussões sobre a relação entre processamento sensorial e engajamento de crianças em suas ocupações. Trata-se de uma revisão sistemática realizada a partir da busca dos descritores: processamento sensorial, engajamento e terapia ocupacional, combinados segundo o operador AND, nas plataformas BVS, PubMed e Web of Science. Os artigos incluídos, tanto em inglês e como em outras línguas, definiram e mediram processamento sensorial; apontaram relação entre processamento sensorial e engajamento ocupacional infantil; foram publicados nos últimos 10 anos (de 2008 a 2018); revisados por pares; estão disponíveis na íntegra; envolveram participantes com idade entre 0 e 7 anos, e foram escritos por terapeutas ocupacionais. As revisões foram realizadas por duas autoras usando campos de dados predefinidos, incluindo indicadores de qualidade do estudo. Os resultados identificaram apenas nove artigos sobre esse tema específico. A análise da classificação, com base na escala OT Seeker, revelou escores de magnitude moderada, o que sugere a necessidade de terapeutas ocupacionais investirem na ampliação de pesquisas criteriosas a fim de aumentar os níveis de evidência científica sobre a relação entre processamento sensorial e engajamento ocupacional.

ABSTRACT: The most widely used method to classify prognostic factors in cancers today is TNM. However, Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) often demonstrates different behaviors in relation to aggressiveness and therapeutic response at the same TNM stage. So, in such cases biomarkers can be used to identify the biological diversity of these tumors more reliably, leading to better therapeutic strategies and disease management. The presence of inflammatory immune cells in the tumor microenvironment can have pro or antitumor effects and the investigation of the expression of inflammatory markers in OSSC can be usefulto design immunotherapeutic interventions. The Transforming Growth Factor alpha is a potent stimulator of cell migration that acts on cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis of cancer, as well as immune suppression and angiogenesis. Inflammatory cytokines, such as Interferon-gamma, mediate macrophage differentiation. Macrophages are an important component of the OSCC microenvironment. The greater amount of tumor-associated macrophages, especially the M2 phenotype, may be associated with a more aggressive biological behavior of the OSCC and, consequently, with reduced survival.

RESUMEN: El método más utilizado para clasificar los factores de pronóstico en los cánceres en la actualidad es TNM. Sin embargo, el carcinoma oral de células escamosas (COCE) a menudo muestra diferentes comportamientos en relación con la agresividad y la respuesta terapéutica en la misma etapa TNM. Entonces, en tales casos, los biomarcadores pueden usarse para identificar la diversidad biológica de estos tumores de manera más confiable, lo que lleva a mejores estrategias terapéuticas y manejo de la enfermedad. La presencia de células inmunes inflamatorias en el microambiente tumoral puede tener efectos pro o antitumorales y la investigación de la expresión de marcadores inflamatorios en COCE puede ser útil para diseñar intervenciones inmunoterapéuticas. El factor de crecimiento transformante α es un potente estimulador de la migración celular que actúa sobre la proliferación celular, la invasión y metástasis del cáncer, así como la inmunosupresión y la angiogénesis. Las citocinas inflamatorias, como el IFN-γ, median en la diferenciación de macrófagos. Los macrófagos son un componente importante del microambiente COCE. La mayor cantidad de macrófagos asociados a tumores, especialmente el fenotipo M2, puede estar asociada a un comportamiento biológico más agresivo del COCE y, en consecuencia, a una menor supervivencia.

RESUMO Objetivos: analisar a atuação de enfermeiros na assistência a pacientes em cuidados paliativos, com destaque para a dimensão espiritual, à luz da Teoria do Cuidado Humano. Métodos: estudo exploratório, qualitativo, realizado em um hospital localizado em João Pessoa, Paraíba, entre agosto e dezembro de 2019, com 10 enfermeiros. Para coleta de dados, utilizou-se a entrevista semiestruturada. Para análise, optou-se pela técnica de análise de conteúdo. Resultados: a dimensão espiritual do cuidado é contemplada por diversas práticas religiosas e espirituais. Essas são respeitadas e incentivadas pelos enfermeiros, embora exista dificuldade para realizar o atendimento da dimensão espiritual. Considerações Finais: os enfermeiros possuem atitudes congruentes com a Teoria de Jean Watson e aplicam os elementos do Processo Caritas durante a assistência à dimensão espiritual do paciente em cuidados paliativos.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze nurses’ role in assisting patients in palliative care, with emphasis on the spiritual dimension, in the light of Theory of Human Caring. Methods: this is an exploratory, qualitative study, carried out in a hospital in João Pessoa, Paraíba, between August and December 2019, with 10 nurses. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were used. For analysis, we opted for content analysis. Results: the spiritual dimension of care is contemplated by several religious and spiritual practices. These are respected and encouraged by nurses, although there is difficulty in providing care for the spiritual dimension. Final Considerations: nurses have attitudes consistent with Jean Watson’s Theory and apply the Caritas Process elements during assistance to patients’ spiritual dimension in palliative care.

RESUMEN Objetivos: analizar el papel del enfermero en la asistencia a los pacientes en cuidados paliativos, con énfasis en la dimensión espiritual, a la luz de la Teoría del Cuidado Humano. Métodos: estudio exploratorio, cualitativo, realizado en un hospital ubicado en João Pessoa, Paraíba, entre agosto y diciembre de 2019, con 10 enfermeras. Para la recolección de datos se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas. Para el análisis, optamos por la técnica de análisis de contenido. Resultados la dimensión espiritual del cuidado es contemplada por diversas prácticas religiosas y espirituales. Estos son respetados y alentados por las enfermeras, aunque existe dificultad para atender la dimensión espiritual. Consideraciones Finales: las enfermeras tienen actitudes congruentes con la Teoría de Jean Watson y aplican los elementos del Proceso Caritas durante la asistencia a la dimensión espiritual del paciente en cuidados paliativos.

Resumo A Educação Infantil é caracterizada por ocupações relacionadas ao brincar, ao autocuidado e à aprendizagem. Para a terapia ocupacional, a participação nessas ocupações reflete no desenvolvimento físico, cognitivo, social, afetivo e ocupacional das crianças. Este estudo objetivou analisar formas de participação infantil em ocupações nos contextos escolares e propor critérios para classificação dessa participação, na perspectiva da terapia ocupacional. Foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa, de observação participante a partir da técnica das Descrições Narrativas. Participaram deste estudo quatro crianças com desenvolvimento típico (DT) e quatro crianças que faziam parte do Público-Alvo da Educação Especial (PAEE), sendo uma com deficiência física e três com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Para a análise dos dados, a técnica de Análise do Conteúdo fez emergir quatro formas de participação, a partir de elementos como envolvimento na ocupação, assistência necessária ou autonomia na participação, tolerância, interações sociais, motivação e iniciativa. Essas formas de participação foram denominadas de participação plena, participação ativa assistida, participação rudimentar e participação restrita. A participação plena foi preponderante manifestada pelas crianças DT e a participação ativa assistida esteve relacionada à criança PAEE com deficiência física. Já a participação rudimentar e a participação restrita foram evidenciadas exclusivamente por crianças PAEE com TEA. Consideram-se os resultados relevantes para a identificação precoce de facilitadores e barreiras para a participação, bem como para o adequado provimento de condições e intervenções que potencializem a participação de todas as crianças nos ambientes escolares e para o fortalecimento e ampliação da atuação dos terapeutas ocupacionais nestes.

Abstract Early childhood education is characterized by occupations related to playing, self-care and learning. For occupational therapy, the participation in these occupations reflects on the physical, cognitive, social, affective and occupational development of children. This study aimed to analyze forms of child participation in occupations in school contexts and to propose criteria for classifying this participation, from the perspective of occupational therapy. A qualitative research was carried out, with participant observation using the technique of Narrative Descriptions. Four children with typical development (TD) and four children who were part of the Target Audience Students of Special Education (TASE) participated in this study, one with physical disability and three with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). For data analysis, the Content Analysis technique revealed four forms of participation, based on elements such as: involvement in the occupation, necessary assistance or autonomy in participation, tolerance, social interactions, motivation and initiative. These forms of participation were called full participation, assisted active participation, rudimentary participation and restricted participation. Full participation was preponderantly manifested by TD children and assisted active participation was manifested by TASE children with physical disabilities. Rudimentary participation and restricted participation were evidenced exclusively by TASE children with ASD. The results are considered relevant for the early identification of facilitators and barriers to participation, as well as for the adequate provision of conditions and interventions that enhance the participation of all children in school environments and for the strengthening and expansion of the work of occupational therapists in these scenarios.
