Resumen: El síndrome de Kabuki consiste en una serie de anomalías congénitas que involucran discapacidad intelectual, hipotonía y dismorfismo facial y corporal. Además de estos signos cardinales, con frecuencia se observan cambios craneofaciales y dentales, aunque no se entienden completamente. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este artículo es presentar los hallazgos dentales en pacientes con síndrome de Kabuki. Esta es una revisión sistemática desarrollada de acuerdo con el protocolo PRISMA. Se aplicó una estrategia de búsqueda con descriptores ("síndrome de kabuki" AND "odontología") a seis bases de datos. Como criterios de inclusión, seleccionamos informes de casos clínicos que abordaban los hallazgos dentales en uno o más pacientes con síndrome de Kabuki entre 1999 y 2019, sin restricciones de género, edad o idioma. La recolección de datos en todas las bases de datos fue realizada por un evaluador calibrado y los títulos, resúmenes y estudios de texto completo fueron analizados sistemáticamente. Se encontraron once informes de casos que se ajustan a los criterios de inclusión propuestos. Después de la síntesis cualitativa, la ausencia de dientes o la agenesia fueron los hallazgos más reportados, siendo observados por nueve autores. Los hallazgos dentales menos frecuentes en pacientes con este síndrome son taurodoncia, microdoncia, fusión, geminación y dientes cónicos o con forma de destornillador. De hecho, cuando cualquier síndrome o condición genética se relaciona con manifestaciones de interés dental, el cirujano dental debe poder investigarlas, especialmente la agenesia o ausencia de los dientes. Por esta razón, el dentista debe ser consciente de las manifestaciones del síndrome de Kabuki, lo que contribuye a la comprensión y el manejo de los pacientes.

Abstract: Kabuki syndrome consists in a series of congenital anomalies involving intellectual disability, hypotonia, and facial and body dysmorphism. In addition to these cardinal signs, craniofacial and dental changes are frequently observed, although they are not fully understood. Thus, the aim of this article is to present the dental findings in patients with Kabuki syndrome. This is a systematic review developed according to the PRISMA protocol. A search strategy with descriptors ("kabuki syndrome" AND "dentistry") was applied to six databases. As inclusion criteria, we selected clinical case reports that addressed dental findings in one or more patients with Kabuki syndrome between 1999 and 2019, without restrictions regarding gender, age or language. Data collection in all databases was performed by a calibrated evaluator and titles, abstracts and full-text studies were systematically analyzed. Eleven case reports that fit the proposed inclusion criteria were found. After the qualitative synthesis, teeth absence or agenesis were the most reported findings, being observed by nine authors. Less frequent dental findings in patients with this syndrome are taurodontism, microdontia, fusion, gemination and conical or screwdriver-shaped teeth. In fact, when any syndrome or genetic condition is related to manifestations of dental interest, the dental surgeon should be able to investigate them, especially teeth agenesis or absence. For this reason, the dentist should be aware of the manifestations of Kabuki syndrome, contributing to patients' understanding and management.

Resumo Objetivos: (1) Elaborar um índice que possibilite mensurar a qualidade de uso de mídias interativas por crianças na primeira infância. (2) Verificar se há relação entre o índice e o desenvolvimento cognitivo, linguagem expressiva, motor fino e grosso. Métodos: Estudo quantitativo, transversal, exploratório, com 103 crianças de 24 a 42 meses avaliadas pela Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development. Os critérios para o índice foram selecionados a partir da literatura: (1) uso de mídias pelos pais; (2) tempo de uso de mídia/dia; (3) tipo de mídia; (4) para que usa a mídia; (5) com quem usa a mídia (6) acompanhamento dos pais (limita tempo, conteúdo, interage durante); (7) objetivo do uso; (8) opinião dos pais sobre a mídia. Para a elaboração do índice multicritério foi aplicado o Multi-Attribute Utility Theory e para verificar a relação entre o índice e o desenvolvimento infantil a análise de Correlação de Spearman e Regressão Linear Simples (p ˂ 0,05). Resultados: O índice apresentou correlação positiva e significativa com o desenvolvimento infantil nos domínios: linguagem (r = 0,40, p < 0,001), cognitivo (r = 0,23, p = 0,04), motor fino (r = 0,22, p = 0,04). A análise de regressão linear simples demonstrou que o uso de mídias interativas explica 20% do desenvolvimento da linguagem (p < 0,001). Conclusão: O índice multicritério elaborado para verificar a qualidade das mídias interativas em crianças na primeira infância mostrou ter potencial para aplicação. Constatou-se a relação positiva e significativa entre a qualidade de uso de mídias interativas e o desenvolvimento infantil, principalmente para a linguagem.

Abstract Objectives: (1) To develop an index that allows the measurement of the quality of interactive media used by children in early childhood. (2) To verify whether there is an association between the index and cognitive development, expressive language, and fine and gross motor development. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, exploratory study with 103 children, aged 24 to 42 months, evaluated by the Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development. The criteria for the index were selected from the literature: (1) media use by parents; (2) time of daily media use; (3) media type; (4) what do you use the media for; (5) who do you use the media with (6) monitoring (limits time, content, interacts during use); (7) purpose of use; (8) parents' opinion of the media. For development of the multicriteria index, the multi-attribute utility theory was applied, and Spearman correlation and simple linear regression (p < 0.05) were used to verify the association between the index and child development. Results: The index showed a positive and significant correlation with child development in the following domains: language (r = 0.40, p < 0.001), cognitive (r = 0.23, p = 0.04), and fine motor = 0.22, p = 0.04). Simple linear regression analysis showed that the use of interactive media accounts for 22% of language development (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The multicriteria index developed to verify the quality of interactive media used by children in early childhood showed that it has the potential to be used. The positive and significant associations between the quality of interactive media use and child development was verified, mainly regarding language.

Abstract This study evaluated the microbiological quality of minimally processed vegetables commercialized in the city of Brasilia, DF, Brazil. A total of 32 samples of different vegetables were purchased from 10 supermarkets. In most samples (78.1%) the populations of psychrotrophic bacteria had a high count ranging from 106 to 108 CFU/g. Thermotolerant coliforms were found in all samples, with populations higher than 102 MPN/g in 15 samples (46.9%). After molecular analyses, E. coli was identified in 16 samples (50.0%) and Salmonella spp. in 4 samples (12.5%). S. aureus was found in 14 samples (43.8%), with counts higher than 103 CFU/g in 4 samples (12.5%). The results obtained in this study showed that 16 samples (50%) were unfit for consumption according to Brazilian legislation. These results indicated the need of adoption of better hygienic practices in the production of minimally processed vegetables to improve quality and microbiological safety.

Objective: Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) seem to perceive that their child’s development is not following the normal pattern as early as the first year of life. However, ASD children may not receive a diagnosis until they are of preschool age, especially in low- and middle-income countries. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pathway between initial parental concerns about atypical child development and ASD diagnosis in Brazil. Methods: Nineteen mothers whose children had been diagnosed with ASD participated and were interviewed. The ASD group consisted of two girls and 17 boys, with a mean age of 93.0 months (SD 48.4 months; range 39-197 months). Results: Mothers had their first concerns regarding ASD when children were 23.6±11.6 months old, but formal diagnosis occurred at a mean ± SD age of 59.6±40.5 months, corresponding to a 3-year delay. Most mothers felt discouraged to address their concerns due to negative experiences with health professionals. Conclusion: In Brazil, mothers perceived the first signs of ASD in their children at an age similar to that reported in other countries, but the diagnosis of ASD seemed to be delayed. Consistent with the literature, mothers reported negative experiences with health professionals during the pathway to achieving ASD diagnosis.

ABSTRACT Objective To describe patient safety in the perception of nursing and medical professionals of neonatal intensive care units. Method Exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach, using the instrument Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture for data collection. Twenty-eight nursing and medical professionals of three neonatal intensive care units in the city of Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, participated in the study, from 2013 to 2015. Content thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Results The following categories emerged: perception and strategies for patient safety; risk factors that interfere with patient safety; challenges in the communication of errors associated with health care. Conclusions Patient safety in the perception of professionals reflected the importance of safe care and the identification of risk factors in work conditions, predisposing to errors. Communication of risk situations, development of safety culture, and qualification are of utmost importance.

RESUMEN Objetivo Describir la seguridad del paciente desde la percepción de los profesionales de enfermería y medicina de Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales. Método Investigación cualitativa exploratoria descriptiva, utilizando el instrumento de recolección de datos de la encuesta en el Hospital Cultura de Seguridad del Paciente. Participaron en la encuesta 28 enfermeras y médicos, en tres Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales de Florianópolis (Santa Catarina), de 2013 a 2015. Para el análisis de datos se utilizó el análisis de contenido temático. Resultados Demostraron las siguientes categorías: percepción y estrategias para la seguridad del paciente; factores de riesgo que interfieren en la seguridad del paciente; retos en la comunicación de error es relacionados con el cuidado en salud. Conclusión La seguridad del paciente según la percepción del profesional refleja la importancia de un cuidado seguro y la identificación de los factores de riesgo en las condiciones de trabajo, lo que predispone a errores. Existía la necesidad de comunicación de situaciones de riesgo, el desarrollo de una cultura de seguridad, así como la capacitación sobre la seguridad del paciente.

Este estudo foi realizado em uma mancha de floresta estacional semidecidual no Campus da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Juiz de Fora-MG. Foram alocadas 15 parcelas de 5 × 5 m, nas quais todos os indivíduos com altura ≥ 1 m e DAP < 5 cm (DAP: diâmetro à altura do peito a 1,30 m do solo) foram amostrados. Foram amostrados 487 indivíduos pertencentes a 45 espécies. As espécies de maior valor e importância foram a exótica Syzygium jambos (22,06%) e a pioneira Miconia latecrenata (14,75%). O Índice de Diversidade de Shannon (H') foi 2,65 nats.ind- 1 e a Equabilidade de Pielou (J) foi 0,69. O grupo ecológico predominante foi o das pioneiras (57,7% das espécies e 41,1% dos indivíduos). A expressiva densidade da espécie exótica S. jambos, a baixa diversidade de espécies e a alta densidade de pioneiras mostram dificuldades de avanço da comunidade arbórea para estágios mais avançados.

This study was conducted in a secondary urban patch of dry semideciduous forest in the campus of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais state. The stratum was sampled in 15 plots of 5 × 5 m, where all individuals with height ≥ 1 m and dbh < 5 cm (dbh: diameter at breast height at 1.30 m) were measured. We sampled 487 individuals belonging to 45 species. The species of greatest importance value were the exotic Syzygium jambos (22.06%) and the pioneer Miconia latecrenata (14.75%). The Shannon diversity index (H') was 2.65 nats.ind- 1 and the Pielou evenness (J) was 0.69. The pioneer group was the most important ecological group of species (57.7% of species and 41.1% of individuals). The significant density of the exotic species S. jambos, the low species diversity, and the high density of the pioneer group indicate a tree community with difficulties to progress to more advanced stages.

Integrins are transmembrane glycoprotein receptors that regulate cell-matrix interactions, thus functioning as sensors from the environment. They also act as cell adhesion molecules that are responsible for the maintenance of the normal epithelial phenotype. Some studies have reported a correlation between carcinogenesis and changes in integrin expression, especially β1 integrin, however its role in prostate cancer (PC) is unclear. The aim of our study was to evaluate the expression of β1 integrin in localized PC and to correlate the pattern of expression with recurrence after surgical treatment. Methods For this case-control study, we retrospectively selected surgical specimens from 111 patients with localized PC who underwent radical prostatectomy. Recurrence was defined as a PSA level exceeding 0.2ng/mL after surgery, and the median follow-up was 123 months. Integrin expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in a tissue microarray containing two samples from each tumor. We employed a semiquantitative analysis and considered a case as positive when the expression was strong and diffusely present. Results: There was a loss of 11 cases during the tissue micro array assembling. β1 expression was positive in 79 of the 100 evaluated cases (79%). The univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the negative expression of β1 integrin was associated with biochemical recurrence (p = 0.047) and time to recurrence after radical prostatectomy (p = 0.023). When β1 was negative, the odds ratio for recurrence was 2.78 times higher than that observed in the positive cases [OR = 2.78, p = 0.047, IC 95% (1.01-7.66)]. Conclusions: The loss of β1 integrin immune expression was correlated with biochemical recurrence in patients treated with radical prostatectomy for localized PC.

Em função de controvérsias sobre a eficácia do lufenuron no tratamento da dermatofitose causada por Microsporum canis, o efeito da droga foi avaliado em 46 gatos (30 com lesões cutâneas e 16 portadores assintomáticos) atendidos no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. O diagnóstico foi estabelecido através da lâmpada de Wood, da cultura fúngica e, adicionalmente, na maioria dos animais sintomáticos, pela avaliação histopatológica da pele. Os animais foram tratados com 120mg/kg de lufenuron, a cada 21 dias (quatro doses); a droga mostrou-se eficaz no tratamento de 29 dos 30 felinos que apresentaram a forma clínica da dermatofitose, bem como no de todos os animais assintomáticos. O único felino que não teve cura clínica completa havia recebido várias doses de dexametasona antes do inicio do tratamento. Em um animal gestante, foram utilizadas duas doses do lufenuron e não foi observada qualquer alteração clínica e morfológica nos filhotes. Nenhum dos animais tratados teve qualquer reação adversa ao medicamento. Vinte dias após o último tratamento, o exame micológico resultou negativo em 45 dos felinos estudados (98%). Embora o lufenuron tenha o custo um pouco mais elevado do que o do cetoconazol, é uma droga que apresenta praticidade e margem de segurança bem maiores. Vale ressaltar que o sucesso do tratamento está diretamente relacionado à correta utilização da droga, assim como a perfeita higienização do ambiente e dos utensílios dos animais.

Due to discrepancies regarding the effectiveness of lufenuron in treating dermato-phytosis caused by Microsporum canis the effect of this drug was checked in 46 cats (30 with cutaneous lesions and 16 asymptomatic carriers) treated in the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The diagnosis was based on Wood's lamp examination and fungal cultures. Biopsies were only performed in symptomatic animals. The animals were treated with lufenuron (120mg/kg every 21 days), for 4 times. The drug was efficient in 29 of the 30 affected felines and as well as in all of the asymptomatic carriers. The cat that did not respond, had received several dexameta-zone doses prior to the treatment with lufenuron. The drug was given to one animal during the first stages of pregnancy and no abnormalities or neonatal disorders were found in any of the kittens. None of the treated animals showed side effects. Twenty days after the last administration of lufenuron, 45 of the studied animals (98%) had negative fungal culture. The cost of treating dermatophytosis with lufenuron is a little higher than with ketoconazole, but the drug has some advantages regarding its practicability and security.The correct drug prescription and animal's medication as well as environmental decontamination are very important for the success of the treatment.

O controle de tratamento da leishmaniose mucosa (LM) pode ser realizado pelo exame clínico e o acompanhamento dos títulos sorológicos da reação de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI). Estudamos a correlação entre a presença de antígeno no tecido através da reação de imuno-histoquímica, os títulos da reação de imunofluorescência indireta e os achados anatomopatológicos, em quinze pacientes com LM, antes e após as lesões estarem cicatrizadas pela avaliação otorrinolaringológica, e avaliamos qual destes parâmetros pode ter utilidade no seguimento. Após a terapêutica houve negativação do antígeno tecidual em quatro doentes (grupo A), sendo a redução ou negativação dos títulos da RIFI estatisticamente significante (p<0.05), o que não ocorreu nos doentes, em que houve permanência do antígeno posteriormente ao tratamento (grupo B), sugerindo que o acompanhamento sorológico deva ser realizado conjuntamente com a pesquisa do antígeno tecidual, associação que não conhecemos ter sido utilizada anteriormente em outro estudo. A negativação do antígeno tecidual e o comportamento dos títulos da RIFI nos doentes do grupo A, provavelmente indicam menor possibilidade de recidiva. Ao exame anatomo-patológico, o processo inflamatório persistiu após a terapêutica, mesmo no grupo A, sugerindo que a permanência da atividade inflamatória em lesões clinicamente cicatrizadas, possivelmente correlaciona-se com a presença do antígeno ou a algum fator desconhecido.

Treatment of mucosal leishmaniasis (ML) can be controlled by clinical examination and by serologic titers by the indirect immunofluorescence serologic reaction (IISR). We studied the correlation between the presence of antigen in tissue determined by immunohistochemistry, the IISR titers and the anatomopathologic findings in fifteen patients with ML before and after healing of the lesions as determined by otorhinolaryngologic evaluation, and evaluated these parameters to determine which of them could be useful during follow-up. Tissue antigens became negative in four patients (group A) after treatment, with a statistically significant reduction or negativity of IISR titers (p<0.05). This did not occur in patients in whom the antigen persisted after treatment (group B), suggesting that serologic follow-up should be performed together with the search for tissue antigen, a combination which, to our knowledge, has not been used in previous studies. The negativity of tissue antigens and the behavior of IIRS titers in group A patients probably indicate a lower possibility of recurrence. Upon anatomopathologic examination the inflammatory process was found to persist after treatment even in group A, suggesting that the permanence of inflammatory activity even in clinically healed lesions is possibly correlated with the presence of the antigen or of some unknown factor.
