SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze the occurrence and risk factors associated with infections during pregnancy in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study using the data of pregnant women who were followed up between 2011 and 2018 at a university hospital. RESULTS: The data of 221 pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus were analyzed. The incidence of infections was 22.6% (50/221), with the urinary tract being the most frequent site of infection (32/221, 14.5%) followed by the respiratory tract (15/221, 6.8%). The bivariate analysis showed that active disease, hematological systemic lupus erythematosus, reduced complement, and use of prednisone ≥5 and ≥10 mg increased the chance of infection during early pregnancy (p=0.05, p=0.04, p=0.003, p=0.008, and p=0.02, respectively), while disease activity and anti-DNA positivity increased it at the end of pregnancy (p=0.03 and p=0.04, respectively). Prednisone at a dose ≥5 mg increased the chance of infection in the beginning (p=0.01) and at the end of pregnancy (p=0.008). Multivariate analysis showed that increasing the dose of prednisone from 5 to 10 mg tripled the chance of developing infections in pregnant women with lupus (p=0.02). CONCLUSION: The study showed an increased chance of infections in pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus and it was associated with the use of prednisone.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar se existem diferenças entre os indicadores de alimentação complementar de crianças de 6 a 23 meses segundo o estado de amamentação. Métodos: Estudo transversal realizado em 2012 com 1.355 crianças de 6 a 23 meses de idade com avaliação de cinco indicadores propostos pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) e modificados com base nas recomendações dos Dez passos para uma alimentação saudável: guia alimentar para crianças menores de dois anos, do Ministério da Saúde. Os indicadores utilizados foram: I. Introdução de alimentos sólidos, semissólidos ou pastosos; II. Diversidade mínima da dieta; III. Frequência mínima das refeições; IV. Dieta mínima aceitável; e V. Consumo de alimentos ricos em ferro. Para verificar diferenças entre os indicadores de alimentação complementar segundo o estado de amamentação foi empregada a estatística F, sendo significante p≤0,05. Resultados: Os indicadores I, II e V foram semelhantes entre as crianças amamentadas e não amamentadas, porém os indicadores III e IV apresentaram maior proporção de adequação para as não amamentadas: para o indicador III, 94,9% (intervalo de confiança de 95% - IC95% 93,2-96,2) versus 40,3% (IC95% 33,2-47,9), e para o indicador IV, 57,3% (IC95% 53,2-61,2) versus 23,1% (IC95% 17,4-30,1). Conclusões: As crianças não amamentadas apresentaram melhor situação de alimentação complementar, porém o indicador III leva em consideração o leite não materno como refeição para crianças não amamentadas, o que elevou o número de refeições lácteas e influenciou o indicador IV, calculado a partir dos indicadores II e III.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify if there are differences among the complementary feeding indicators of children aged 6-23 months according to the breastfeeding status. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 1,355 children aged 6-23 months in 2012 to evaluate five indicators proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and modified in accordance with Brazilian’s recommendations “Ten steps to a healthy feeding: a feeding guide for children under two years old”. The indicators used were: I. Introduction of solid, semi-solid or soft foods; II. Minimum dietary diversity; III. Minimum meal frequency; IV. Minimum acceptable diet, and V. Consumption of iron-rich foods. To verify differences between the complementary feeding indicators according to breastfeeding status, the F-statistic was used, with p≤0.05 meaning significant. Results: Indicators I, II, and V were similar among breastfed and non-breastfed children; however, indicators III and IV presented a higher proportion of adequacy for non-breastfed children, with 94.9% (CI95% 93.2-96.2) versus 40.3% (CI95% 33.2-47.9) for indicator III, and 57.3% (CI95% 53.2-61.2) versus 23.1% (CI95% 17.4-30.1) for indicator IV. Conclusions: Non-breastfed children have better complementary feeding status, but the indicator III takes into account non-breast milk as a meal for non-breastfed children, which increased the number of dairy meals and influenced indicator IV (calculated from indicators II and III).

Abstract Introduction Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo, and it is characterized by episodes of vertigo roundabout when the head is moved. A systematic review was performed using the most important scientific databases. This review included studies published in English in the last ten years, performed in adults, with emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of BPPV. Objective To investigate the long-term effectiveness of vestibular rehabilitation (VR) in patients with BPPV and the rate of recurrence of symptoms. Data Synthesis A total of 38 studies were identified, of which only 12 met the inclusion criteria. The majority of the studies stated that VR is effective in decreasing the symptoms, with a short-term efficacy of 84.7%, and 89.2% in the long term in the reviewed studies. Conclusion Valuable studies show the beneficial effects of the maneuvers for the treatment of BPPV and their long-term effectiveness. This strengthens the conclusion that this treatment is effective in resolving symptoms and decreasing recurrences.

O objetivo deste estudo consistiu em analisar a aplicabilidade do teste de envelhecimento acelerado no vigor de sementes de alface (Lactuca sativa) em seis lotes de sementes de alface, através da sua correlação com outros testes para avaliação expedita da qualidade fisiológica das sementes da hortícola. Foram realizados os testes de primeira contagem de germinação, germinação, condutividade elétrica, envelhecimento acelerado, deterioração controlada e emergência em campo. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. A utilização do teste de envelhecimento acelerado a 41°C durante 24 h com solução saturada de NaCl foi o mais indicado para a avaliação do vigor de sementes de alface.

Accelerated aging as a vigor test has been one of the most used, and its application suits many crops. The aim of this research was to analyze the applicability of the accelerated aging test in the vigor of lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa) by its correlation with other tests for the expeditious evaluation of the physiological quality of the horticultural seeds. Six lots of lettuce seeds were used. The first count of germination, standard germination, electrical conductivity, accelerated aging, controlled deterioration, and seedling's field emergence was performed. The design was completely randomized, with four replications. The use of the accelerated aging test at 41°C per 24 h period using saturated NaCl solution is indicated for the evaluation of lettuce seed vigor.

Resumo:OBJETIVO:verificar se o conhecimento da técnica de oferta da dieta pelo copo, o recebimento de treinamento e o tempo de trabalho influenciam a postura do técnico de enfermagem, a postura do recém-nascido e o posicionamento do copo.MÉTODOS:trata-se de um estudo observacional, descritivo, transversal, do qual participaram 15 profissionais, técnicos de enfermagem responsáveis pela administração da dieta às crianças, no momento do oferecimento do leite pelo copo, na ausência da genitora. Foi definido nível de significância estatística de 0,05.RESULTADOS:apenas nove indivíduos foram treinados (p=0,273) e 11 referiram não ter conhecimento da técnica (p=0,011). O oferecimento da dieta ocorreu em pé (p=0,001), com o derramamento do leite na boca da criança (p=0,010), sendo posicionada com as regiões occipital e cervical apoiadas (p-valor = 0,001). Não houve associação entre o conhecimento da técnica, recebimento de treinamento, tempo de trabalho às variáveis postura do técnico de enfermagem, postura do recém-nascido e posicionamento do copo.CONCLUSÃO:a postura de oferta da alimentação é realizada em pé, há derramamento da dieta na cavidade oral do bebê e não há influência das posturas do neonato, do técnico ou do copo por conta do conhecimento da técnica, realização de treinamento e tempo de trabalho.

Abstract:PURPOSE: to verify if knowing the technique of offering the diet in a cup, the training and the working time have influence on the nursing technician posture, the newborn posture and the cup position.METHODS: it was an observational, descriptive, transversal study, in which participated 15 professionals - nursing technicians responsible for diet administration in children, offering milk in a cup, during mother's absence. The statistical significance level was 0.05.RESULTS: only nine individuals were trained (p = 0.273) and 11 technicians declared had no knowledge about the technique (p = 0.011). The diet was offered with technicians standing (p = 0.001), pouring milk into child's mouth (p = 0.010) positioned with the occipital and cervical regions supported (p = 0.001). There was no association between technique knowledge, receiving training and working time to the different nursing technician's posture, newborn's posture and cup position.CONCLUSION: the posture of offering the diet is standing, milk is poured into babies' oral cavity and there is no influence in newborn, technician or cup position, caused by technical knowledge, training and working time.

A criação sucessiva de parasitoides em hospedeiros alternativos pode afetar sua qualidade biológica. Trichospilus diatraeae Cherian & Margabandhu, 1942 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) tem sido estudado para o controle biológico da broca-da-cana [Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)]. Objetivou-se avaliar se a criação de T. diatraeae, por três gerações, no hospedeiro alternativo Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), afeta seu desempenho reprodutivo, quando criado, posteriormente, em pupas do hospedeiro natural D. saccharalis. Dois grupos de T. diatraeae foram multiplicados, separadamente e por três gerações: um em pupas de T. molitor e outro em pupas de D. saccharalis. Na sequência, 20 pupas de D. saccharalis foram expostas, por 72 horas, ao parasitismo de fêmeas de T. diatraeae, criado, anteriormente, em pupas de T. molitor ou de D. saccharalis. A criação sucessiva de T. diatraeae no hospedeiro alternativo não afetou o número de pupas parasitadas e de pupas com emergência de parasitoides no hospedeiro natural D. saccharalis e aumentou a longevidade de fêmeas e a razão sexual de T. diatraeae. A progênie, duração do ciclo de desenvolvimento (ovo-adulto), largura da cápsula cefálica de machos e fêmeas e a longevidade de machos de T. diatraeae foram semelhantes entre os tratamentos. T. diatraeae pode ser criado no hospedeiro alternativo T. molitor, por três gerações, sem comprometer seu desempenho reprodutivo, ao ser criado, posteriormente, no hospedeiro natural D. saccharalis.

The successive rearing of parasitoids in factitious hosts may affect its biological quality. Trichospilus diatraeae Cherian & Margabandhu, 1942 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) has been studied for the biological control of sugarcane borer [Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)]. This study aimed to evaluate whether the rearing of T. diatraeae for three generations in the factitious host Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) affects its reproductive performance, when subsequently reared in the natural host pupae D. saccharalis. Two groups of T. diatraeae were reared separately for three generations: one in pupae of T. molitor and the other in pupae of D. saccharalis. Subsequently, 20 pupae of D. saccharalis were exposed, for 72 hours, to the parasitism of T. diatraeae females reared earlier in pupae of T. molitor or D. saccharalis. The successive rearing of T. diatraeae in the factitious host did not affect the number of pupae parasitized and the number of pupae in which the emergence of parasitoids occurred in the natural host D. saccharalis, and increased the longevity of females and the sex ratio of T. diatraeae. The progeny, duration of developmental cycle (egg to adult), width of head capsule of males and females and longevity of males of T. diatraeae were similar on both treatments. T. diatraeae can be reared in the factitious host T. molitor for three generations without compromising its reproductive performance, when subsequently reared in the natural host D. saccharalis.

La capacidad de Trichospilus diatraeae Cherian e Margabandhu, 1942 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) para buscar y parasitar las pupas de Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) en los tallos de la caña de azúcar fue estudiada. Para analizar la habilidad de búsqueda y parasitismo fueron utilizados tallos de la caña de azúcar (20 cm) donde se introdujo una pupa de D. saccharalis (T1); pupas y orugas (T2) o pupa y residuos fecales (T3). Cada tallo fue colocado en una botella plástica transparente con 21 hembras de T. diatraeae. Esas pupas fueron individualizadas, luego de 72 h, en tubos de vidrio a 25 ± 1°C, 70 ± 10 % UR y 14 h de foto período. El experimento se desarrolló en un diseño completamente al azar, con tres tratamientos y 12 repeticiones. Los porcentajes de pupas de D. saccharalis parasitados por T. diatraeae fueron del 50,00 %, 83,33 % y 16,66 % en el T1, T2 y T3, respectivamente (X² = 3.896, p = 0,04). La presencia de D. saccharalis en los tallos de caña de azúcar favorecieron la búsqueda y parasitismo de su hospedero.

The ability of Trichospilus diatraeae Cherian and Margabandhu, 1942 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) to search and parasitize Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) pupae in sugarcane stalks was evaluated. To analyze the ability for search and parasitism were used stalks of sugarcane (20 cm) where it was introduced a pupa of D. saccharalis (T1); a pupa and a caterpillar (T2) or a pupa and fecal matter (T3). Each stalk was placed in a transparent plastic bottle with 21 females of T. diatraeae. These pupae were isolated, after 72 h, in glass tubes at 25 ± 2 °C, 70 ± 10 % relative humidity, 14:10 light/dark. The experiment was developed in an entirely casualized design with three treatments and 12 repetitions. Percentage of D. saccharalis pupa parasitized by T. diatraeae was 50.00 %, 83.33 % and 16.66 % in the T1, T2 and T3, respectively (X² = 3.896, p= 0.04). The presence of D. saccharalis caterpillars favored searching and parasitism of this host.

A capacidade de Trichospilus diatraeae Cherian e Margabandhu, 1942 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) para procurar e parasitar pupas de Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) em colmos de cana-de-açúcar foi avaliada. Para analisar a capacidade de busca e parasitismo foram usados colmos de cana-de-açúcar (20 cm), onde foi introduzida uma pupa de D. saccharalis (T1); uma pupa e uma lagarta (T2) or uma pupa e resíduo fecal (T3). Cada colmo foi colocado em uma garrafa plástica transparente com 21 fêmeas de T. diatraeae. Essas pupas foram retiradas dos colmos após 72 h, e colocadas em tubos de vidro a 25 ± 2 ° C, 70 ± 10 % de umidade relativa e fotofase de 14 h. O experimento foi desenvolvido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com três tratamentos e 12 repetições. A porcentagem de pupas de D. saccharalis parasitadas por T. diatraeae foi de 50,00 %, 83,33 % e 16,66 % em T1, T2 e T3, respectivamente (X²= 3,896, p = 0,04). A presença de lagartas de D. saccharalis favoreceu a busca e parasitismo deste hospedeiro.
