Abstract: Malnutrition and eating disorders are a latent problem in our society which are generated by an inadequate combination of foods either by lack of time, money, knowledge or a specialist who can help to properly manage food with the macronutrients necessary for good nutrition. In this research we present an architecture of diet recommendation using fuzzy logic and first-order logic, the research is divided into three phases: first, people’s data such as age, weight, height, physical activity level and gender were taken into account to obtain the required daily kilocalories using fuzzy logic; second, we considered as a knowledge base the menu plan for breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and dinner according to the tastes of the person for the first order logic; third, using a selection algorithm, a daily menu plan according to its kilocalories and the list of menus obtained with the first order logic are recommended. To validate the proposed architecture, Kaggle’s Cardiovascular Disease Detection dataset has been taken from which 500 people data have been taken for the research, the preferences of each person have been added to the dataset, finally the prototype recommends the diet for the 500 people according to the required kilocalories, the average kilocalories required are 1776 and the average kilocalories of the recommended menus are 1864, being the difference of 88 kilocalories, we conclude that our prototype based on the proposed architecture performs a proper recommendation.

Abstract: The Constitution and the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as international treaties ratified by Chile, oblige the state to offer free legal assistance to those who require it, which is especially relevant in the criminal sphere. On the riots or social unrest that occurred in Chile in the last quarter of 2019 and early 2020, the Public Criminal Defense Office adopted a set of measures to offer legal defense to those who were detained or indicted by the criminal prosecution bodies. This research compares crime behavior in the country between 2017 and 2021 and identifies the social unrest crimes. These are a group of crimes whose frequency increased considerably during the turbulent months: 1) burglary, 2) public disorder, 3) disturbances to public order, and 4) attacks and threats against authorities. The volume and specificities of the social unrest crimes challenged the entire justice sector and, in doing so, made it possible to generate beliefs about the legitimacy of the criminal justice system. In contexts of social unrest, the generation of such beliefs seems especially important, because they can increase perceptions of injustice, enhancing the motivations that give rise to such unrest. Therefore, the operational reactions deployed in the Public Criminal Defense Office to ensure timely criminal defense services are explained. Good practices of the Public Criminal Defense Office that could be strengthened institutionally and normatively so that the justice sector is better prepared to face complex or unusual criminological phenomena, such as those that occurred during the social outburst, are also highlighted.

Resumen: La Constitución y el Código Procesal Penal, además de los tratados internacionales ratificados por Chile, obligan al Estado a ofrecer asistencia jurídica gratuita a quienes lo requieran, lo cual es especialmente relevante en el ámbito penal. Con ocasión de la revuelta o el estallido social ocurrido en Chile entre el último trimestre de 2019 y comienzos de 2020, la Defensoría Penal Pública adoptó un conjunto de medidas para ofrecer defensa jurídica a quienes eran detenidos o formalizados por los órganos de persecución penal. En esta investigación se compara el comportamiento delictual en el país entre los años 2017 y 2021, y se identifican los delitos del estallido social. Se trata de un conjunto de delitos cuyas frecuencias aumentaron considerablemente en los meses convulsionados: a) robos en lugar no habitado, b) desórdenes públicos, c) alteraciones al orden público, y d) atentados y amenazas contra la autoridad. El volumen y las especificidades de los delitos del estallido social pusieron a prueba a todo el sector justicia y, al hacerlo, posibilitaron la generación de creencias sobre la legitimidad del sistema de justicia penal. En contextos de disturbios sociales, el surgimiento de dichas creencias parece especialmente importante porque puede incrementar la percepción de injusticia, potenciando el malestar social que da origen a dichos disturbios. Por ello, se explican las reacciones operativas desplegadas en la Defensoría para asegurar servicios oportunos de defensa penal. También se destacan aquellas buenas prácticas de la Defensoría que podrían robustecerse institucional y normativamente para que el sector justicia esté mejor preparado para enfrentar fenómenos criminológicos complejos o no habituales, como los ocurridos durante el estallido social.

Abstract Introduction Acquired tracheomalacia (ATM) is characterized by a loss of structural strength of the tracheal framework, resulting in airway collapse during breathing. Near half of the patients undergoing prolonged invasive mechanical ventilation will suffer tracheal lesions. Treatment for ATM includes external splinting with rib grafts, prosthetic materials, and tracheal resection. Failure in the use of prosthetic materials has made reconsidering natural origin scaffolds and tissue engineering as a suitable alternative. Objective To restore adequate airway patency in an ovine model with surgicallyinduced ATM employing a tissue-engineered extraluminal tracheal splint (TE-ETS). Methods In the present prospective pilot study, tracheal rings were partially resected to induce airway collapse in 16 Suffolk sheep (Ovis aries). The TE-ETS was developed with autologous mesenchymal-derived chondrocytes and allogenic decellularized tracheal segments and was implanted above debilitated tracheal rings. The animals were followed-up at 8, 12, and 16 weeks and at 1-year postinsertion. Flexible tracheoscopies were performed at each stage. After sacrifice, a histopathological study of the trachea and the splint were performed. Results The TE-ETS prevented airway collapse for 16 weeks and up to 1-year postinsertion. Tracheoscopies revealed a noncollapsing airway during inspiration. Histopathological analyses showed the organization of mesenchymal-derived chondrocytes in lacunae, the proliferation of blood vessels, and recovery of epithelial tissue subjacent to the splint. Splints without autologous cells did not prevent airway collapse. Conclusion It is possible to treat acquired tracheomalacia with TE-ETS without further surgical removal since it undergoes physiological degradation. The present study supports the development of tissue-engineered tracheal substitutes for airway disease.

Resumen Los trastornos de salud mental tienen impacto significativo sobre la calidad de vida de las personas, y la pandemia del COVID-19 incrementó estos problemas. El objetivo de este estudio ha sido analizar los factores de mayor riesgo asociados a la sintomatología de trastornos de salud mental en estudiantes de las universidades públicas y privadas como impacto del COVID-19. Es un estudio cuantitativo de diseño no experimental y corte transversal. Se administró el DASS- 21 a una muestra de 833 estudiantes de universidades de Paraguay, con una media de edad de 22,7 años. Para el análisis de datos se realizó una regresión logística ordinal. Los resultados hallados ponen de manifiesto que los factores de mayor riesgo asociados a depresión, ansiedad y/o estrés son: disponer de antecedentes familiares, ser estudiantes de Medicina, ser mujer y de rango etario más joven. A partir de estos hallazgos se considera necesaria la promoción de la salud mental y una intervención temprana de las personas universitarias, mediante el acompañamiento psicológico y/o psiquiátrico, en específico, en las estudiantes mujeres y estudiantes del grado de medicina.

Abstract Mental health disorders have a significant impact on the quality of life of individuals, and the COVID-19 pandemic increased these problems. The aim of this study was to analyze the factors of greater risk associated with the symptomatology of mental health disorders in students of public and private universities as an impact of COVID-19. It is a quantitative study of non-experimental and cross- sectional design. The DASS-21 was administered to a sample of 833 students from universities in Paraguay, with a mean age of 22.7 years. An ordinal logistic regression was used for data analysis. The results showed that the risk factors associated with depression, anxiety and/or stress were: having a family history, being a medical student, being a woman and being younger. Based on these findings, it is considered necessary to promote mental health and early intervention of university students, through psychological and/or psychiatric support, specifically in female students and medical students.

Resumen: Introducción: se ha demostrado que la ventilación mecánica induce la producción de citocinas proinflamatorias. El IN/L es un parámetro sencillo que se utiliza para evaluar el estado inflamatorio. Objetivo: comparar los promedios y porcentajes del índice neutrófilo/linfocito (IN/L) elevado, entre pacientes con anestesia general con ventilación mecánica controlada por volumen (VMCV) y ventilación mecánica controlada por presión (VMCP). Material y métodos: se seleccionaron adultos ≥ 18 años, ASA I-III con cirugía electiva y anestesia general. Ensayo clínico aleatorizado: 25 pacientes con VMCV y 25 con VMCP. A todos los pacientes se les determinó dos biometrías hemáticas: antes y 2 horas después de la cirugía. El IN/L fue medido en forma de razón y dicotómica (< 3 o ≥ 3). Análisis estadístico: se utilizaron las pruebas t de Student, χ2 y McNemar. Resultados: se estudiaron 50 pacientes (27 mujeres y 23 hombres) con un promedio de edad de 47 ± 16 años. El grupo de VMCV tuvo tendencia a presentar valores más bajos de promedios y porcentajes IN/L; sin embargo, no fue estadísticamente significativa (p = 0.06). En la comparación pareada ambos grupos presentaron incremento estadísticamente significativo de los promedios y porcentajes de IN/L. No obstante, el porcentaje de IN/L > 3 en el grupo de VMCP fue de 64%, mientras que en el grupo de VMCV fue de 40%. Conclusiones: la VMCV presenta promedios y porcentajes más bajos del IN/L comparados con VMCP; sin embargo, no fueron estadísticamente significativos.

Abstract: Introduction: it has been shown that mechanical ventilation induces production of proinflammatory cytokines. The Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (N/L r) is a simple parameter that is used to assess the inflammatory state. Objective: to compare the means and percentages of elevated neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (N/L r) in patients under general anesthesia with volume-controlled mechanical ventilation (VCMV) and pressure-controlled mechanical ventilation (PCMV). Material and methods: adults ≥ 18 years old, ASA I-III, with elective surgery and general anesthesia. Randomized clinical trial: 25 patients with VCMV and 25 with PCMV. All patients had two blood counts determined: before and 2 hours after surgery. N/L r was measured as a ratio and dichotomous (< 3 or ≥ 3). Statistical analysis: the t-Student, χ2 and McNemar tests were used. Results: 50 patients (27 women and 23 men) with a mean age of 47 ± 16 years (range 18-84 years) were studied. The VCMV group tended to present lower values of means and percentages N/L r, however, it was not statistically significant (p = 0.06). In the paired comparison, both groups presented a statistically significant increase in the means and percentages of N/L r. However, the percentage of N/L r > 3 in the PCMV group was 64%, while in the VCMV group it was 40%. Conclusions: the VCMV presents lower means and percentages of N/L r compared to PCMV, however, they were not statistically significant.

Abstract Preterm birth (PTB) is the main condition related to perinatal morbimortality worldwide. The aim of this study was to identify gene-environment interactions associated with spontaneous PTB or its predictors. We carried out a retrospective case-control study including parental sociodemographic and obstetric data as well as newborn genetic variants of 69 preterm and 61 at term newborns born at a maternity hospital from Tucumán, Argentina, between 2005 and 2010. A data-driven Bayesian network including the main PTB predictors was created where we identified gene-environment interactions. We used logistic regressions to calculate the odds ratios and confidence intervals of the interactions. From the main PTB predictors (nine exposures and six genetic variants) we identified an interaction between low neighbourhood socioeconomic status and rs2074351 (PON1, genotype GG) variant that was associated with an increased risk of toxoplasmosis (odds ratio 12.51, confidence interval 95%: 1.71 - 91.36). The results of this exploratory study suggest that structural social disparities could influence the PTB risk by increasing the frequency of exposures that potentiate the risk associated with individual characteristics such as genetic traits. Future studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to confirm these findings.

Abstract: This research study focuses on how industrial companies from different sectors perform their strategic management processes and examines whether such processes improve their internal processes, their vision, and their strategic objectives. The methodology is quantitative and is based on a closed questionnaire containing six Likert-type questions with a five-point level of agreement. The questionnaire is applied to 120 companies in the industrial sector (plastics, wood, food, machinery, and metalmechanics) from the city of Barranquilla (Colombia). The results show that there is a high tendency in the metalmechanics industry for developing different activities that enhance the strategic direction of its processes. It is concluded that strategic management has a positive impact on the modification of traditional beliefs and paradigms that prevent companies from improving their added value.

Resumen: El objetivo de esta investigación se centra en cómo las empresas industriales de diferentes sectores llevan a cabo sus procesos de dirección estratégica, y examinar si éstos permiten la mejora de sus procesos internos, la mejora de su visión y objetivos estratégicos. La metodología es cuantitativa, basada en un cuestionario cerrado con seis cuestionamientos de escala tipo Likert de cinco puntos de nivel de concordancia, aplicado a 120 empresas de los sectores industriales (plásticos, madera, alimentos, maquinaria y metalmecánica), que desarrollen sus actividades en la ciudad de Barranquilla (Colombia). Los resultados muestran altas tendencias por parte de la industria metalmecánica al desarrollo de diferentes actividades que infieren en la dirección estratégica de sus procesos. Se concluye que la dirección estratégica incide positivamente en la modificación de creencias y paradigmas tradicionalistas que impiden que la empresa alcance el valor agregado.

ABSTRACT Introduction. The understanding of the composition and macroscopic properties of compact objects is one of the biggest challenges of Astrophysics. In particular, if the object is magnetized, one faces the still unsolved problem of finding the structure of a non-spherical star. Following our studies on these topics, here we present a set of structure equations for spheroidal compact objects, as long as they are not too far from the spherical shape. Methods. These equations describe any compact object whose equation of state has magnetic anisotropy, and have been successfully applied to the study of magnetized White Dwarfs, Bose-Einstein condensate Stars and Strange Stars. Results and Discussion. As collateral results, we obtained solutions to Einstein’s equations suitable for describing the magnetosphere of compact objects, and performed a preliminary study of a model for astrophysical jets. Conclusions. From these studies, we show that a uniform magnetic field does not increase the maximum mass of compact objects, its biggest effect being their deformation. In addition, we proposed and validated a mechanism for the generation of the stellar magnetic field, which constitutes one of the major novelties of the work, and found that the stars of intermediate masses are the candidates to produce the most intense gravitational waves.

RESUMEN Introducción. La comprensión de la composición y la estructura macroscópica de los Objetos Compactos constituye uno de los mayores desafíos de la Astrofísica. En particular, si estos están magnetizados, pues en este caso nos encontramos ante el problema, aún no resuelto, de hallar la estructura de una estrella cuya forma no es esférica. Métodos. Dando continuidad a nuestros estudios dentro de esta temática, en el presente trabajo se construyen, a partir de las Ecuaciones de Einstein, un sistema de ecuaciones de estructura aproximadas para objetos compactos esferoidales. Dichas ecuaciones tienen un carácter general y han sido utilizadas exitosamente para el estudio de Enanas Blancas, Estrellas de condensado de Bose-Einstein y Estrellas Extrañas magnetizadas. Resultado. En paralelo, se obtuvieron soluciones de las ecuaciones de Einstein aplicables a la descripción de las magnetosferas estelares, y se realizó un estudio preliminar de un modelo de jets astrofísicos. Conclusiones. A partir de estas investigaciones fue posible demostrar que un campo magnético uniforme no incrementa la masa máxima de estas estrellas, siendo su mayor efecto contribuir a la deformación de los mismas. Asimismo, se propuso y validó un mecanismo para la generación del campo magnético, lo cual constituye una de las mayores novedades del trabajo, y se comprobó que son las estrellas de masas intermedias las que causarían las ondas gravitacionales de mayor amplitud.

Abstract: The objective of this is to determine the status and contribution of the management of information and communication technologies as an integral part of the supply chain in medium-sized companies in the Colombian Caribbean. A field study was conducted for 58 medium-sized companies in the commercial, industrial, and service sectors in Barranquilla, Colombia. The data collection technique consisted of a 6-question questionary with Likert-scale answer options. Among the most relevant results is that companies invoke technological management towards their business strategies and detail the use of software for process control, but needs are evident in the use of these. It is concluded that, although most companies use technological management, it is not effective, evidencing a low level of conviction of the managers of the companies towards the development of this type of processes. This shows that there exists a strong need to establish these processes in the studied enterprises.

Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar el estado y aporte de la gestión de las tecnologías de información y comunicación como parte integral de la cadena de suministros en medianas empresas del caribe colombiano. Se realizó un estudio de campo dirigido a 58 empresas medianas de sectores comerciales, industriales y servicios, en Barranquilla, Colombia. La técnica de recolección de datos consistió en un cuestionario de 6 preguntas con opciones de respuesta de escala tipo Likert. Entre los resultados más relevantes está que las empresas avocan la gestión tecnológica hacia sus estrategias empresariales y detallan el uso de software para el control de procesos, pero se evidencian necesidades en el uso de estos. Se concluye que, aunque la mayoría de las empresas utilizan la gestión tecnológica, esta no es efectiva, evidenciando un bajo nivel de convencimiento de los gerentes de las empresas hacia el desarrollo de este tipo de procesos. Esto muestra que existe una fuerte necesidad de instaurar estos procesos en las empresas estudiadas.

Abstract In the last four decades, theories and mechanisms of transitional justice have been formulated and implemented in numerous countries, forming an interdisciplinary theoretical and practical corpus. This paper proposes to expand the scope of transitional justice so that it can be applied in stable democracies. The proposed reformulation could be useful to address structural injustices affecting indigenous peoples, that are a legacy of colonialism and assimilationist policies, and to address acts of state repression that constitute serious human rights violations. These reflections are formulated on the basis of three recent case studies: 1) from the Canadian experience, the Royal Commission on Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls are analyzed; 2) from South Africa, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Constituent Process and the Land Reform are discussed; and 3) from the Chilean case, the link between social unrest and transitional justice, as well as the Constituent Process, are explained.

Resumen En estas últimas cuatro décadas se han formulado teorías e implementado mecanismos de justicia transicional en numerosos países, conformando un corpus teórico-práctico interdisciplinar. En este documento se propone expandir el ámbito de acción de la justicia transicional, de modo que pueda ser aplicada en democracias estables. La reformulación que se propone podría ser de utilidad para enfrentar injusticias estructurales que afectan a los pueblos indígenas y que son un legado del colonialismo y políticas asimilacionistas, y hacerse cargo de actos de represión estatal que son constitutivos de graves violaciones a los derechos humanos. Estas reflexiones son formuladas a partir de tres recientes estudios de caso: 1) de la experiencia canadiense se analizan la Comisión Real sobre los Pueblos Indígenas, la Comisión de Verdad y Reconciliación y la Investigación Nacional sobre Mujeres y Niñas Indígenas Desaparecidas y Asesinadas; 2) de Sudáfrica, se aborda la Comisión de Verdad y Reconciliación, el Proceso Constituyente y la Reforma Agraria, y 3) del caso chileno se explica la vinculación entre estallido social y justicia transicional, además del Proceso Constituyente.

Abstract: The present study aims to assess the performance of MSME (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises) managers from the State of Atlántico (Colombia) by using a creative and innovative scenario. The methodology is qualitative, quantitative, descriptive, and interpretative. The population under study consists of 29 senior manufacturing sector company managers from the State of Atlántico that are registered in the Chamber of Commerce. An interview with nine open-ended questions and a survey with four questions with a Likert scale are applied. The results show that strongly hierarchical organizations have a tendency to be linked negatively with creativity. It is concluded that creativity requires a proper environment to successfully develop inside companies, for which it is necessary to create a conducive environment for generating ideas.

Resumen: El presente estudio tiene como objetivo realizar un diagnóstico de la gestión de gerentes de micro, pequeñas, y medianas empresas (MIPYMES) del departamento del Atlántico (Colombia) en un escenario creativo e innovador. La metodología es cuali-cuantitativa de tipo descriptivo e interpretativo. La población objeto de estudio se constituyó por 29 miembros de la alta gerencia de empresas del sector manufacturero en el departamento del Atlántico, registradas en la Cámara de Comercio. Para la recolección de datos, se aplicó una entrevista con nueve preguntas abiertas y una encuesta con 4 preguntas con escala tipo Likert. Los resultados muestran que organizaciones fuertemente jerárquicas tienden a relacionarse negativamente con la creatividad. Se concluye que la creatividad requiere de un entorno para desenvolverse en la organización, por lo cual es necesario crear un ambiente propicio para generar ideas.

RESUMEN El cacao es la principal materia prima para producir chocolate, así como para su uso en las industrias alimentaria, cosmética y farmacéutica. Sin embargo, Moniliophthora roreri es una de las enfermedades fúngicas más destructivas y la principal limitante de la producción de cacao en todo el mundo. Así, este trabajo evaluó el efecto inhibidor de extractos obtenidos de Zingiber officiale (T1) y Aloe vera (T2), y Trichoderma harzianum + Bacillus subtillis (T3) en la infección producida por Moniliophthora roreri en Theobroma cacao; además, un cultivo control (T4) también fue evaluado. Cada tratamiento se aplicó a seis plantas de cacao. La incidencia de la infección por monilia y el peso de la fruta se monitorearon cada 15 días (en total cuatro períodos) después del tratamiento por pulverización. Se encontraron diferencias significativas (P<0.05) entre los tratamientos por incidencia. Se observó que la pulverización de árboles enteros de cacao después de dos veces (aproximadamente 30 días) mostró una reducción de la infección por monilia. Después de todos los períodos, T1, T2 y T3 mostraron una reducción en la infección por monilia de 20,5, 17,7 y 14,9% respectivamente, en comparación con el control cultural de 41,1%. Esta reducción de la infección por moniliasis se tradujo en un aumento del peso promedio de los frutos en T3 (8,4 kg), T2 (7,3 kg) y T1 (6,9 kg). En cambio, el control cultural (T3), el peso promedio de la fruta disminuyó a 5,3 kg. El control biológico mostró un manejo eficiente de patógenos como M. roreri. Recomendamos el uso de este tipo de antifúngicos (en especial Aloe vera) aplicados durante al menos 120 días lo que disminuiría más la incidencia de la infección.

ABSTRACT Theobroma cacao is the main raw material to produce chocolate, as well as for use in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. However, Moniliophthora roreri is one of the most destructive fungal diseases and the main limiting of cacao production worldwide. Thus, this work aimed to assess the inhibitory effect of extracts of Zingiber officinale (T1) and Aloe vera (T2), and Trichoderma harzianum + Bacillus subtillis. (T3) on Moniliophthora roreri infection in Theobroma cacao; in addition, a control (T4) was also evaluated. Each treatment was applied to six plants of cacao. Incidence of monilia infection and fruit weight were monitored every 15 days (in total four periods) after the application of the treatment by spray. Significant differences (P<0.05) were found among treatments for incidence. It was observed that spraying entire cacao trees after two times (approximately 30 days) showed a reduction of monilia infection. After all periods, T1, T2, and T3 showed an incidence of monilia infection by 20.5, 17.7, and 14.9% respectively, compared to cultural control of 41.1%. This reduction of moniliasis infection translates into an increase in fruit weight average for T3 (8.4 kg), T2 (7.3 kg), and T1 (6.9 kg). In contrast, in the control (T3), the fruit weight average decreased by 5.3 kg. Biological control showed efficient management of pathogens as M. roreri. It is recommended to use such antifungal (Aloe vera) spray over at least 120 days which would decrease infection incidence even more.

Resumen: Esta investigación buscó analizar las acepciones vinculadas al emprendimiento, articulando esta indagación con las necesidades y expectativas que actualmente se vienen exponiendo al respecto. La metodología fue de corte descriptivo y se realizó un análisis detallado de la literatura. Se seleccionaron 20 fuentes de información publicadas en Scopus, Scielo o Web of Science. Los resultados exponen que en la medida que desde la universidad se desarrollen procesos tempranos, existen mayores posibilidades para la generación del emprendimiento por parte del estudiante o futuro profesional. Se identifican también los perfiles y modelos de emprendimiento que han marcado hitos en el proceso histórico. Se concluye que la responsabilidad de los proyectos de emprendimiento, que lleven a su éxito o fracaso, no debe depender exclusivamente del emprendedor, puesto que los contextos sociales y económicos de la actualidad propician una bilateralidad con respecto al apoyo que debería presentarse por parte de otros actores involucrados.

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to assess the different definitions of “entrepreneurship” by conducting an inquiry according to current needs and expectations. The methodology was descriptive, and a detailed literature review analysis is performed. Twenty published sources were selected from Scopus, Scielo, and Web of Science. The results showed that the sooner entrepreneurship processes develop at universities, the greater the opportunities that students and future professionals have for generating successful entrepreneurships. The results also revealed entrepreneurial profiles and models of historical importance. It is concluded that what leads entrepreneurial projects to success or failure should not depend exclusively on entrepreneurs since the social and economic contexts of today create a bilateral responsibility with respect to the support that entrepreneurs should receive from other factors involved.
