RESUMEN Bixa orellana L. es ampliamente utilizado como un tinte y tiene otras propiedades que han sido poco estudiadas, especialmente en relación con las hojas. Este artículo evalúa cómo el secado B. orellana L. influye en las propiedades de los aceites esenciales (EOs) extraídos de sus hojas. El material vegetal recogido se sometió al horno de secado por aire convectivo a temperaturas de 35, 45 y 55 °C. Los perfiles químicos fueron determinados por GC-MS. Se aplicaron modelos matemáticos para representar el proceso de secado y el análisis estadístico realizado utilizando el software Statistica 10. Las EO se obtuvieron a través de la técnica de hidrodestilación con verificación de propiedades fisicoquímicas y actividad antimicrobiana. Para el ensayo de toxicidad se aplicó el bioensayo a Artemia salina. A través de los resultados obtenidos fue posible determinar el modelo matemático que se ajustaba mejor. Se observaron diferencias significativas en las propiedades de los EO. La temperatura de 45 °C permitió obtener el mejor rendimiento de EO, porque la actividad antimicrobiana fue más eficiente. Este estudio afirma a través de las actividades analizadas que la temperatura de secado influye en las propiedades fisicoquímicas y biológicas de las EO. Estudios como este evalúan el mejor modelo matemático para predecir el secado, así como las temperaturas específicas que influyen en las propiedades del producto obtenido.

SUMMARY Bixa orellana L. is widely used as a dye, and other properties are still little studied, especially in relation to leaves. This article evaluates how drying B. orellana L. influences the properties of essential oils (EOs) extracted from their leaves. The collected plant material was submitted to convective air-drying oven at temperatures of 35, 45 and 55 °C. Chemical profiles were determined by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Mathematical models were applied to represent the drying process and statistical analysis performed using Statistica 10 software. The EO's were obtained through the hydrodistillation technique with verification of physicochemical properties and antimicrobial activity by the Disc Diffusion Method. For the toxicity test, the bioassay was applied to Artemia salina. Through the results obtained it was possible to determine that the mathematical model of Verma was the one that best fitted the experimental data. Significant differences in the properties of EO's were observed. The temperature of 45 °C allowed obtaining the best EO yield, still presenting the most efficient antimicrobial activity. This study states through the activities analyzed that the drying temperature influences the physicochemical and biological properties of the EO's, thus requiring studies such as this one that evaluate the best mathematical model to predict drying as well as the specific temperatures that influence the properties of the product obtained.

RESUMO. O presente estudo teve como objetivo medir N-NH4 + e N-NO3 - no solo, teores de macronutrientes em folhas e grãos e produtividade de grãos de genótipos superprecoces (GSP) de feijão-comum em função da época de aplicação de nitrogênio (EAN). Experimentos de campo foram realizados por quatro safras em Latossolo em Santo Antônio de Goiás, no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As parcelas foram compostas pelos GSP de feijão-comum e as subparcelas pela EAN. Incluiu-se também um tratamento sem adubação nitrogenada. A disponibilidade de N no solo com níveis médios e altos de fertilidade e matéria orgânica foi suficiente para atender a demanda de feijão-comum para alcançar produtividades de até 3.000 kg ha-1. A adubação com N, independentemente da época de aplicação, não proporcionou incrementos nos componentes de produção, produtividade de grãos e teores de N, P e K nas folhas e grãos de GSP do feijão-comum. Genótipos CNFC 15873 e 15875 CNFC tiveram maiores produtividades no verão chuvoso e o genótipo CNFC 15874 na safra irrigada de inverno. Pode-se inferir que o uso de GSP do feijão-comum com ciclo de vida variando de 65 a 77 dias mostrou ser tecnologia promissora, com produtividade de grãos semelhantes ao controle (IPR Colibri).

ABSTRACT. This study was conducted to measure the effects of the timing of nitrogen fertilization (NF) on soil N-NH4 + and N-NO3 -, macronutrient contents in the leaves and grains, and the grain yield of super early genotypes (SEG) of common bean. Field experiments were performed for four growing seasons in an Oxisol soil in Santo Antônio de Goiás, Brazil, using a randomized block experimental design in a split plot scheme. The plots were planted with common bean SEG, and the subplots were the NF timings, including a treatment without N fertilization. The available soil N with improved fertility and medium to high levels of organic matter were enough to meet the N demands of the common bean crop in order to achieve yields of up to 3,000 kg ha-1. Fertilization with N, regardless of the time of application, provided no increase in the yield components, grain yield and the N, P and K contents in the leaves and grains of the common bean SEG. The genotypes CNFC 15873 and CNFC 15875 had higher grain yields in the rainfed summer, and the genotype CNFC 15874 had higher grain yields in the irrigated winter growing season. It can be inferred that the use of common bean SEG, with life cycles ranging from 65 to 77 days, can be a promising technology, providing grain yields similar to the control (IPR Colibri).

RESUMO Há carência de estudos que avaliem o desenvolvimento e o acúmulo de nutrientes em genótipos superprecoces de feijoeiro comum, para a elaboração de programas de fertilização. Objetivou-se caracterizar o desenvolvimento, acúmulo de N, P, K, Ca e Mg nas folhas, produtividade de grãos e componentes de produção de genótipos superprecoces de feijoeiro comum. Experimentos de campo foram realizados em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram dos genótipos IPR Colibri (controle), CNFC 15873, CNFC 15874 e CNFC 15875. Foram amostradas plantas durante o desenvolvimiento do feijoeiro, com separação em folhas, hastes e vagens. Após a determinação da matéria seca, foi analisado o conteúdo de N, P, K, Ca e Mg nas folhas. Na colheita, foram avaliados os componentes de produção e produtividade de grãos. O acúmulo de biomassa nos caules e folhas ocorreu até a floração, e depois começou nas vagens até a colheita. Os genótipos que absorveram mais nitrogênio e fósforo tiveram maior produtividade de grãos. A média do ciclo dos genótipos foi de 70 dias (inverno) e 63 dias (verão). CNFC 15874 foi a linhagem mais produtiva na safra de inverno, com produtividade semelhante à da IPR Colibri (controle). Na safra de verão, CNFC 15873 e CNFC 15875 alcançaram produtividades de grãos semelhantes à da cultivar IPR Colibri.

ABSTRACT There is a lack of researches that evaluate the development and nutrient accumulation in super early genotypes of common bean for the elaboration of fertilization programs. This study aimed at characterizing the development; N, P, K, Ca and Mg accumulation by leaves; grain yield; and yield components of super early genotypes of common bean. Field experiments were conducted in a randomized blocks design, with four replications. The treatments consisted of the IPR Colibri (control), CNFC 15873, CNFC 15874 and CNFC 15875 genotypes. Plants were sampled throughout the common bean development, being divided into leaves, stems and pods. After determining the dry matter, the contents of N, P, K, Ca and Mg accumulated in leaves were estimated. At harvesting, the grain yield and yield components were evaluated. The biomass accumulation in stems and leaves occurred until the flowering stage, and then it started in the pods until harvesting. The genotypes that absorbed more nitrogen and phosphorus had a higher grain yield. The average growing season of super early genotypes was 70 days (winter) and 63 days (summer). CNFC 15874 was the most productive genotype in the winter, with grain yield similar to the IPR Colibri cultivar (control). In the summer, CNFC 15873 and CNFC 15875 achieved grain yield similar to the IPR Colibri cultivar.
