Polymers are options as antimicrobials for skin protection, antifouling surfaces, and fabrics. Here we analyzed the interaction of polymers based on poly(methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly((dimethylamino ethyl) methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) with model membranes and bacteria. We used the homopolymers PMMA, PDMAEMA, and the diblock copolymer(s) prepared with different PMMAm:PDMAEMAn ratios (m/n). The interactions of PDMAEMA and PMMAm-b-PDMAEMAn with large unilamellar vesicles (LUVs) prepared with phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylglycerol at different pHs, were analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), dynamic light scattering, and zeta potential. These polymers promoted LUVs leakage of a fluorescent probe (5,6-carboxyfluorescein) localized exclusively in the internal aqueous compartment. Interestingly, all copolymers exhibit a bell-shaped pH dependence for the polymer-induced LUVs leakage. The interaction of the positively charged polymers and the pH effect was also demonstrated using giant unilamellar vesicles. These copolymers inhibited bacterial growth in the micromolar range and can be used to prevent bacterial growth on surfaces.

Resumen: Los árboles dispersos en pastizales son una fuente importante de nutrientes, reciclados a través de la hojarasca que los árboles liberan anualmente. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la descomposición y liberación de nutrientes de la hojarasca de Vachellia pennatula y Lysiloma acapulcense, en un clima cálido subhúmedo. Se colocaron bolsas de descomposición y se monitoreó la humedad del suelo y temperatura ambiental bajo el dosel de los árboles y en áreas abiertas durante 32 semanas. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques al azar y se modeló la descomposición de hojarasca en cuatro tratamientos: sombra de L. acapulcense con hojarasca de L. acapulcense (1) o de V. pennatula (2); sombra de V. Pennatula con hojarasca de L. acapulcense (3) o de V. pennatula (4). Se determinó la composición química de la hojarasca. Los parámetros de calidad evaluados (relación C/N, lignina, celulosa y hemicelulosa) fueron buenos predictores del proceso de descomposición. La hojarasca remanente a las 32 semanas fue similar en todos los tratamientos (P = 0.999). En el proceso de descomposición, la constante (k) osciló entre -0.00090 y -0.00096, que denota lenta descomposición (t50 = 1.98-2.11 años, t99 = 13.2-14.0 años). El nitrógeno y el fósforo aumentaron al final del experimento debido a la probable inmovilización de estos nutrimentos por microorganismos asociados (hongos y bacterias). La descomposición y liberación de nutrientes de la hojarasca de V. pennatula y L. acapulcense en este ambiente cálido subhúmedo es relativamente lenta, independientemente del microclima generado por la sombra.

Abstract Scattered trees in pastures are an important source of nutrients recycled through leaf litter released annually. The objective was to assess the decomposition and nutrient release by leaf litter from Vachellia pennatula and Lysiloma acapulcense in a sub-humid warm climate Decomposition litterbags were set under the canopies and then collected, and soil humidity and temperatura were measured over a 32-week period. A randomized block design was used, and litter decomposition was modeled in four treatments: litter from L. acapulcense under shade from L. acapulcense (1), litter from V. pennatula under shade from L. acapulcense (2), litter from L. acapulcense under shade from V. pennatula (3), and litter from V. pennatula under shade from V. pennatula (4). Chemical composition of leaf litter was assessed. Chemical composition of leaf litter was assessed. Chemical composition variables evaluated (C/N ratio, lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose) were good predictors of decomposition. Remnant leaf litter at 32 weeks was similar in all treatments (P = 0.999). The decomposition rate (k) ranged from -0.00090 to -0.00096 across treatments, showing a low decomposition rate (t50 = 1.98-2.11 yr, t99 = 13.2-14.0 yr), where only litter fragmentation took place during the 32-week period, across decomposition conditions. Nitrogen and P increased at the end of the study suggesting nutrient sequestration by microorganisms (e.g. fungi and bacteria) associated with the litter during the study period. Litter decomposition and nutrient release from these tree species which have a high C/N ratio are relatively slow under sub-humid warm climate conditions.

Abstract Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide and Mexico is no exception. The epidemiological data obtained in 1990 showed that cardiovascular diseases represented 19.8% of all causes of death in our country. This figure increased significantly to 25.5% for 2015. Some national surveys suggest that more than 60% of the adult population has at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease (obesity or overweight, hypertension, smoking, diabetes, dyslipidemias). On the other hand, data from the Pan American Health Organization have linked the process of atherosclerosis as the first cause of premature death, significantly reducing life expectancy, which has enormous social repercussions. Objective: This document constitutes the Clinical Practice Guide (CPG) prepared at the initiative of the Mexican Society of Cardiology in collaboration with the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology, AC, National Association of Cardiologists of Mexico, AC, Mexican Association for the Prevention of Atherosclerosis and its Complications, AC, National Normative Committee of General Medicine, AC, National College of Geriatric Medicine, AC, College of Internal Medicine of Mexico, AC, Mexican Society of Angiology and Vascular and Endovenous Surgery, AC, Mexican Institute of Research Nephrological, AC and the Mexican Academy of Neurology, A.C.; with the methodological support of the Ibero-American Agency for the Development and Evaluation of Health Technologies, in order to establish recommendations based on the best available evidence and agreed upon by an interdisciplinary group of experts. The objective of this document is to provide evidence-based recommendations to help decision makers in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemias in our country. Material and methods: This document complies with international quality standards, such as those described by the Institute of Medicine of the USA, the Institute of Clinical Excellence of Great Britain, the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network and the Guidelines International Network. A multidisciplinary group of clinical experts and methodologists with experience in systematic reviews of the literature and the development of clinical practice guidelines was formed. A scope document was agreed upon, relevant clinical questions were established, the best available evidence critically evaluated in systematic literature reviews was exhaustively identified, and clinical recommendations were developed. The modified Delphi Panel methodology was used to achieve an adequate level of consensus in each of the recommendations contained in this CPG. Results: 23 clinical questions were agreed upon which gave rise to their respective clinical recommendations. Conclusions: We consider that this document contributes to better clinical decision-making and becomes a point of reference for clinicians and patients in the management of dyslipidemias and this contributes to reducing the morbidity and mortality derived from atherosclerotic cardiovascular events in our country.

Abstract Introduction: Central aortic arterial stiffness (CAAS) is an independent cardiovascular risk factor. Insulin resistance (IR) contributes to CAAS-associated risk. Objective: To evaluate the association between IR and CAAS in a Mexican population without diabetes. Methods: IR was estimated with Homeostatic Model Assessment 2-Insulin Resistance (HOMA2-IR) and other surrogate markers (Metabolic score for IR [METS-IR], Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index [QUICKI], triglycerides/glucose index [TyG], TyG*body mass index [TyG*BMI] and triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio [TG/HDL-C]). CAAS was evaluated using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity analysis (PWVcf) and the standardized augmentation index (AI-75). Bivariate correlations were made between surrogate markers and PWVcf. Increased CAAS was defined as PWVcf above the 90th percentile. Thresholds and area under the curve (AUC) were obtained for each surrogate marker in order evaluate their performance in estimating increased CAAS. Results: Three hundred and fifty-eight patients were included. A correlation was found between HOMA2-IR and PWVcf; this correlation was replicated with other surrogate markers. METS-IR and TyG*IMC had the highest degree correlation with PWVcf. When adjustments were made for covariables, the correlations with TyG*IMC, METS-IR, HOMA2-IR and QUICKI maintained significance. HOMA2-IR showed the strongest correlation with AI-75. METS-IR and TyG showed the best AUC. Patients with prediabetes had the highest PWVcf. Conclusions: The relationship between IR and CAAS is present before the onset of diabetes; this association may entail higher cardiovascular risk.

Resumen Antecedentes: La rigidez arterial central aórtica (RACA) es un factor de riesgo cardiovascular independiente. La resistencia a la insulina (RI) contribuye al riesgo asociado a RACA. Objetivo: Evaluar la asociación entre RI y RACA en una población mexicana sin diabetes. Métodos: La RI se estimó con HOMA2-IR y (Homeostatic Model Assessment 2-Insulin Resistance) otros subrogados (METS-IR [Metabolic score for IR], QUICKI [Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index], TyG [ratio triglicéridos/glucosa], TyG*IMC [TyG*índice de masa corporal] y TG/HDL [ratio TG/lipoproteínas de alta densidad]). Se evaluó la RACA mediante el análisis de velocidad de onda del pulso carotídeo-femoral (VOPcf) y el índice de aumentación estandarizado (AI-75). Se realizaron correlaciones bivariante entre los subrogados y la VOPcf. RACA aumentada se definió como VOPcf arriba del percentil 90. Se obtuvieron puntos de corte y área bajo la curva (ABC) para cada subrogado para estimar RACA aumentada. Resultados: Se incluyó 358 pacientes. Se encontró una correlación entre HOMA2-IR y VOPcf; esta correlación se replicó con los subrogados. METS-IR y TyG*IMC tuvieron el mayor grado de correlación con VOPcf. Al ajustar, las correlaciones con TyG*IMC, METS-IR, HOMA2-IR y QUICKI mantuvieron significancia. La correlación con AI-75 fue mayor para HOMA2-IR. METS-IR y TyG mostraron la mejor ABC. Los pacientes con prediabetes tuvieron mayor VOPcf. Conclusiones: La relación entre la RI y la RACA está presente desde etapas no diabéticas; esta asociación puede conllevar mayor riesgo cardiovascular.

Abstract Individuals with malignancies and COVID-19 have a lower survival compared with the general population. However, the information about the impact of COVID-19 on the whole hematological population is scarce. We aimed to describe the 30th day overall survival (OS) after COVID-19 infection in pa tients with a hematological disease in Argentina. A completely anonymous survey from the Argentine Society of Hematology was delivered to all the hematologists in Argentina; it started in April 2020. A cut-off to analyze the data was performed in December 2020 and, finally, 419 patients were reported and suitable for the analysis (average age: 58 years, 90% with malignant diseases). After the COVID-19 diagnosis, the 30-day OS for the whole population was 80.2%. From the entire group (419), 101 (24.1%) individuals required intensive care unit admission, where the 30-day OS was 46.6%. Among allogeneic stem cell transplant recipients, the 30-day OS was 70.3%. Factors associated with a low OS were two or more comorbidities, an active hematological disease and history of chemotherapy. In individuals with the three factors, the 30-day OS was 49.6% while the 30-day OS in those without those factors was 100%. Patients with hematological diseases have a higher mortality than the general population. This group represents a challenge and requires careful decision-making of the treatment in order not to compromise the chances of cure.

Resumen El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo primario conocer la mortalidad de pacientes con enfermedad hematológica que presentaron infección por COVID-19 en Argentina. Para ello se difundió una encuesta desde la Sociedad Argentina de Hematología (SAH) entre los hematológos para informar sobre los pacientes con enfermedades hematológicas y diagnóstico de infección por SARS- CoV-2, entre el 19/4/2020, y el 7/12/2020. Se incluyeron individuos de todas las edades con diagnóstico de enfermedad hematológica benigna o maligna e infección por SARS-CoV-2 confirmada por técnica de RT-PCR. Se analizaron 419 pacientes (mediana 58 años; 90% enfermedades malignas). La supervivencia al día 30 fue de 80.2%. La supervivencia fue menor en aquellos que requirieron internación (74.2%), cuidados intensivos (46.6%) y asistencia respiratoria mecánica (36.8%). Entre los trasplantados alogénicos la supervivencia fue 70.3%. Los factores vinculados a la supervivencia global fueron las comorbilidades, el estado de la enfermedad al momento de la infección y el antecedente de quimioterapia. Se pudo establecer un score en el que aquellos que tuvieron un puntaje de 4 alcanzaron una supervivencia del 49.6% al día 30, mientras que la de los pacientes con score 0 fue del 100% a 30 días. En comparación con la población general, los pacientes con enfermedades hematológicas presentan una mayor mortalidad vinculada al COVID-19, motivo por el cual es primordial definir pautas destinadas a disminuir la exposición de los mismos sin comprometer las posibilidades de beneficiarse del tratamiento de la enfermedad de base.

Abstract: The objective of this article is to present an Industry 4.0 mobile application, AppIndustria 4.0, which allows evaluating the level of Industry 4.0 implementation among organizations. The application is composed of modules managed centrally through variables. The mobile application is developed entirely in Android. The methodology consists of: software development and operation, responses to software changes, client assistance for software use, interaction with individuals, and interactions of processes and tools. Fifty people with managerial responsibility and with knowledge of organizational processes test the AppIndustria 4.0 app. The results show that the variables examined do not have multi-colinearity. The reliability of Cronbach's alpha is 0.85. There is also a strong contribution by the process variables (24.87%), people (24.11%), and technology (42.33%). It is concluded that the AppIndustria 4.0 is reliable for its implementation as it is accredited by reliability statistical tests for use and application.

Resumen: El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una aplicación móvil, AppIndustria 4.0, que permite evaluar el nivel de implementación de la Industria 4.0 en las organizaciones. La aplicación ésta conformada por módulos gestionados de forma centralizada a través de variables y está desarrollada íntegramente bajo la plataforma Android. La metodología consta del desarrollo y funcionamiento de software, respuestas ante cambios del software, colaboración con cliente sobre el uso del software, interacción con individuos e interacciones sobre los procesos y herramientas. La AppIndustria 4.0 se aplicó a 50 personas con responsabilidad gerencial con conocimiento en procesos organizacionales. Las variables no presentan multicolinealidad y se tiene una fiabilidad del Alfa de Cronbach de 0.85. Existe una fuerte relación de contribución de las variables proceso (24.87 %), personas (24.11 %) y tecnología (42.33 %). Se concluye que la AppIndustria 4.0 es factible de utilizar para las organizaciones y se acreditó las pruebas estadísticas de confiabilidad para su uso y aplicación.

ABSTRACT Two mass stranding events of loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) in the vicinity of the Gulf of Ulloa, Baja California Sur, Mexico, were analyzed during 2003-2006 and 2012-2014. Stranding events were related to the accumulation of consecutive days with lower sea surface temperature (SST) series for the corresponding periods using Pearson correlations. Our results showed that in both periods, a significant cross-correlation was observed between mass stranding and accumulation of consecutive days with temperatures below 18, 17, and 16°C, with a time lag of three to five months. Numerical evidence supports the hypothesis that although the loggerhead turtle mortality is caused by multiple factors under extreme cold events, the environment turns markedly unfavorable for these organisms. Side-effects on health and swimming behavior of the species C. caretta, compromise their ability to avoid obstacles or flee from predators, thus increasing their vulnerability to sickness or lethargy, and possibly leading to the massive stranding of weakened individuals or dead bodies to the beaches of the Gulf of Ulloa. Hence, while SST may not be the direct cause of turtle mortality, it can be a determining factor for the survival of this species.

Resumen Objetivo: Describir la correlación entre los hallazgos en ultrasonido endoscópico y de histopatología en lesiones del tracto digestivo proximal. Método: Estudio retrospectivo, observacional, descriptivo. Expedientes de pacientes con ultrasonografía endoscópica proximal con resultado de patología en el Servicio de Endoscopia del Hospital Juárez de México de enero de 2019 a enero de 2020. Resultados: De 24 individuos, 14 mujeres (58,33%) y 10 hombres (41,67%), edad promedio 53,41 años. 46% sin comorbilidades, hipertensión arterial, diabetes mellitus tipo 2 e hipotiroidismo (15,38%, 11,53%, 11,53% respectivamente). Diagnósticos ultrasonográficos: tumor de páncreas (16,67%), Gist gástrico (16,67%), tumor ampular (12,47%), páncreas ectópico (8,33%), Gist esofágico (8,33%), tumor neuroendocrino (8,33%), pseudoquiste de cola de páncreas, pancreatitis autoinmune, quiste de duodeno, enfermedad de Menetrier, tumor gástrico (4,17%). Histopatología: adenocarcinoma pancreático (12,5%), adenocarcinoma gástrico (12,5%), gastritis crónica (12,5%), adenocarcinoma ampular, de colédoco y páncreas ectópico (8,33%), esofagitis, GIST, pancreatitis, tumor neuroendocrino pancreático (4,17%). La relación: diagnóstico por procedimiento con histopatología, aunque aparenta ser buena por haber una frecuencia alta de concordancia (11 de 18 casos, 68.75%) y tener un c2 <1 (0.617), estadísticamente no es significativo con una p = 0.621; OR 0.314 (IC 0.030 – 3.285). Conclusiones: Aunque los datos obtenidos en el estudio son similares a las estadísticas nacionales y a nivel mundial, la correlación entre los diagnósticos en ultrasonografía y el histopatológico no es estadísticamente significativo, esto debido a que es una base de datos corta, por lo que los datos no pueden ser extrapolados a todos los procedimientos.

Resumo O trabalho apresenta uma discussão introdutória sobre o uso do agrupamento estatístico (cluster analysis) para classificação e cartografia de paisagens, tendo como embasamento teórico a tipologia de paisagens, através da noção de zonalidade de L. S. Berg e da teoria dos geossistemas de V. B. Sochava. A utilização desta técnica foi feita através do mapeamento de 272 unidades de paisagens no município de Mineiros, no sudoeste de Goiás, com o objetivo de comparar diferentes formas de agrupamento para estabelecer a tipologia de paisagens utilizando uma abordagem upscaling/bottom-up. As unidades de paisagem foram delimitadas por meio dos elementos de morfoestrutura, geologia, geomorfologia, altitude, declividade, densidade de drenagem, solos e uso e cobertura da terra. Foram avaliados o coeficiente de similaridade Jaccard, a métrica da Distância Euclidiana e o algoritmo k-means. Mesmo que as validações de campo e os testes estatísticos (índices) apontem para um cenário discrepante, considerou-se que as métricas de Jaccard e da Distância Euclidiana apresentaram cenários satisfatórios para representação das paisagens. O agrupamento foi importante na otimização dos processos, embora exista a necessidade de diferenciar a significância estatística da espacial. Portanto, a relevância dessa técnica está na colaboração para agrupar e redefinir grandes quantidades de informações, o que apresentaria excessiva morosidade por vias manuais de análise e reagrupamento espacial.

Abstract This paper deals with the classification of landscapes by means of cluster analysis, having as a theoretical basis a typology of landscapes, through the notion of zonality by L. S. Berg and the theory of geosystems by V. B. Sochava. Firstly landscape mapping was performed using geoprocessing techniques resulting in 272 landscape units for the municipality of Mineiros (Goiás State, Brazil). This units were defined by union of different elements of morphostructures, lithology, landforms, altitude, slope degree, drainage density, soils and land use. The objective of this work is to compare different forms of grouping to establish the typology of landscapes using an upscaling/bottom-up approach. The similarity coefficient Jaccard, Euclidean Distance metric and k-means algorithm were evaluated. Even though the field validations and statistical tests point to a different scenario, it was considered that the Jaccard and Euclidean Distance metrics presented satisfactory scenarios for the representation of the landscapes. The grouping was important in the optimization of processes, although there is a need to differentiate between statistical and spatial significance. Therefore, the relevance of this technique is in the collaboration to group and redefine a large amount of information that, by means of manual analysis and spatial regrouping, would present excessive delay.

Resumen El trabajo presenta la discusión sobre el uso del agrupamiento estadístico (cluster analysis) para la clasificación y cartografía de los paisajes, teniendo como base teórica la tipología de los paisajes, a través de la noción de zonalidad por L. S. Berg y la teoría de los geosistemas por V. B. Sochava. La utilización de esta técnica se realizó mediante la delimitación de 272 unidades de paisaje en el municipio de Mineiros, estado de Goiás, Brasil. Estas unidades fueron delimitadas por medio de elementos como: morfoestructura, geología, geomorfología, hipsometría, inclinación de la pendiente, densidad de drenaje, suelos y el uso y cobertura de la tierra. El objetivo del trabajo utilizar y comparar diferentes formas de agrupamiento para realizar la clasificación tipológica de los paisajes con un enfoque upscaling/bottom-up. Se evaluaron el coeficiente de similitud Jaccard, la métrica de Distancia Euclidiana y el algoritmo de k-medias. Aunque las validaciones de campo y las pruebas estadísticas (índices) apuntan a un escenario diferente, se consideró que las métricas Jaccard y Euclidean Distance presentaron escenarios satisfactorios para representar los paisajes. La agrupación fue importante en la optimización de los procesos, aunque es necesario diferenciar la significación estadística de la espacial. Por lo tanto, la relevancia de esta técnica radica en la colaboración para agrupar y redefinir una gran cantidad de información que, mediante análisis manual y reagrupación espacial, presentaría un retraso excesivo.

Abstract Introduction: The prevalence of chronic complications and comorbidities in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) has increased worldwide. Objective: To compare the prevalence of complications and chronic comorbidities in patients with T2D at 36 family medicine units of five chapters of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). Method: Complications (hypoglycemia, diabetic foot, kidney disease, retinopathy, ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and heart failure) and comorbidities (liver disease, cancer and anemia) were identified according to codes of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision. Comparisons were made by chapter, age, gender and evolution time. Results: Complications and comorbidities were more common in subjects aged ≥ 62 years. Out of 297 100 patients, 34.9 % had any complication; microvascular complications (32 %) prevailed in the industrial North, whereas macrovascular complications (12.3 %) did in the rural East, and comorbidities (5 %) in southern Mexico City. Complications predominated in men (any complication, 30.2 %). Heart failure and comorbidities were more common in women (5.6 % and 4.9 %, respectively). Conclusions: T2D complications and comorbidities showed geographic and gender differences, and were greater with older age and longer evolution time. It is urgent for strategies for the prevention of complications and comorbidities to be reinforced in patients with T2D.

Resumen Introducción: La prevalencia de complicaciones crónicas y comorbilidades en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2 (DT2) se han incrementado en el mundo. Objetivo: Comparar la prevalencia de complicaciones y comorbilidades crónicas en pacientes con DT2 en 36 unidades de medicina familiar de cinco delegaciones del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS). Métodos: Conforme los códigos de la Décima Revisión de la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades se identificaron las complicaciones (hipoglucemia, pie diabético, enfermedad renal, retinopatía, enfermedad cardiaca isquémica, enfermedad cerebrovascular y falla cardiaca) y comorbilidades (enfermedad hepática, cáncer, anemia) de DT2. Se compararon por delegación, edad, sexo y tiempo de evolución. Resultados: Las complicaciones y comorbilidades fueron más comunes en personas ≥ 62 años. De 297 100 pacientes, 34.9 % presentó cualquier complicación; microvasculares en el norte industrial (32 %), macrovasculares en el este rural (12.3 %) y comorbilidades (5 %) en el sur de la Ciudad de México; estas complicaciones predominaron en los hombres (cualquier complicación 30.2 %). La falla cardiaca y las comorbilidades fueron más comunes en mujeres (5.6 y 4.9 %). Conclusiones: Las complicaciones y comorbilidades de DT2 mostraron diferencias geográficas y de sexo y fueron mayores con la edad y el tiempo de evolución. Urge reforzar estrategias para la prevención de las complicaciones y comorbilidades en los pacientes con DT2.

ABSTRACT The emission of nitrous oxide (N2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3) in tropical dairy cattle (CLT) excreta, fed with different percentages of crude protein (CP), was quantified using static cameras. Sampling was performed at different times of day (7:00, 10:00, 13:00, 16:00, and 19:00 local time -LT-). The statistical model employed was a covariance analysis in a randomized complete block design with repeated measures. The variables were analyzed using the Glimmix procedure of the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) v. 9.2 with a covariance structure of compound symmetry. The best model that explains the flow of N2O-N and the emission of CO2 and NH3 is that which included the minimum ambient temperature and the pH as covariates, respectively. Treatment with 12 % of CP obtained the highest N2O-N flow and the lowest CO2 emission. Treatment with 14 % CP had the lowest N2O emission and treatments with 14 and 16 % CP reflected higher amounts of CO2 emissions. The hours of the day when there were greater emissions of NH3 were 10:00 and 13:00 LT, which in turn were the hours where less amount of CO2 and N2O was emitted. As the percentage of CP in the different treatments increases, there is also an increase in the weight gain of the animal, being the treatment with 16 % CP, commercial food, the diet that produced the highest increase in kilograms in animals.

RESUMEN Se cuantificó la emisión de óxido nitroso (N2O), dióxido de carbono (CO2) y amoniaco (NH3) en excretas de bovinos de raza criollo lechero tropical (CLT) alimentados con diferentes porcentajes de proteína cruda (PC), mediante el uso de cámaras estáticas. El muestreo de gases se realizó a diferentes horas del día (7:00, 10:00, 13:00, 16:00 y 19:00 hora local -HL-). El modelo estadístico usado fue un análisis de covarianza en un diseño de bloques completos al azar con medidas repetidas. La emisión de gases se analizó mediante el procedimiento Glimmix del Statistical Analysis System (SAS) v. 9.2, con una estructura de covarianza de simetría compuesta. El modelo que mejor explica el flujo de N2O-N y la emisión de CO2 y NH3 es aquel que incluyó como covariable la temperatura mínima ambiental y el pH, respectivamente. El tratamiento con 12 % de PC obtuvo el mayor flujo de N2O-N y la menor emisión de CO2. El tratamiento con 14 % de PC tuvo la emisión más baja de N2O y los tratamientos con 14 y 16 % de PC reflejan mayores flujos de emisión de CO2. Las horas del día en que hubo mayor emisión de NH3 fueron las 10:00 y 13:00 HL, que a su vez fueron las horas en que se emitió menor cantidad de CO2 y N2O. Por último, a medida que aumenta el porcentaje de PC en los diferentes tratamientos, hay un incremento en la ganancia en peso del animal, siendo el tratamiento con 16 % de PC, alimento comercial, la dieta que produjo mayor aumento en kilogramos.

Objectives: To evaluate and compare the efficacy and long-term survival of biological disease-modifying drugs (b-DMARDs) in Axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA) using the LUNDEX index and to determine the variables associated with the discontinuation of these drugs. Material and methods: Cross-sectional multicenter study. Patients with axSpA in treatment with b-DMARDs were included. Sociodemographic, therapeutic and clinical variables were recorded. The dates of initiation of treatment with b-DMARDs, concomitant treatment, suspension or change of treatment, and causes of suspension were recorded. Therapeutic efficacy was defined according to BASDAI at 6, 12 months and then annually from the initiation of b-DMARDs. The LUNDEX index was calculated in these periods. Statistical analysis: Descriptive statistics. Student’s test and Chi² test or Fisher’s exact test. Curves of Kaplan-Meier and Log-Rank. Proportional regression analysis of Cox. Results: 101 patients with axSpA were studied, 80.2% men, with a median age of 42 years (IQR 35-54.5) and a median disease duration of 19.3 years (IQR 9.4-28.8). 26.7% of patients didn´t have health insurance. The frequency of the anti-TNFα agent used as 1st b-DMARD was: Etanercept (ETA) 44.6%, Adalimumab (ADA) 41.6%, Infliximab 7.9%, and Certolizumab 5.9%. In 32.7% of the cases, the b-DMARD was administered in combination with a c-DMARD (conventional disease-modifying drug). The mean survival was 66.2 months (95% CI: 51.8-80.5). As ETA and ADA were used in 85% of the patients, comparisons were made only between these two agents. The mean survival time was significantly lower for ETA vs ADA (X 53.18 ±8.8 vs X 74.8±8.9, Log-Rank p=0.02), being the main cause of suspension, the lack of drug provision. The average survival time for those who didn´t have health insurance was significantly lower X 31.9 months (95% CI: 19-45) in comparison to those patients who had health insurance X 72.3 months (95% CI: 55.3-89.3), p=0.03. After adjusting for confounding factors, the lack of health insurance was the only variable independently associated with a lower survival of the b-DMARD (HR 2.54, 95% CI: 1.18 to 5.75). The global LUNDEX was 52.7% at 6 months and 46.9% at 12 months. Conclusions: The average survival of the 1st b-DMARD was 5.5 years. The lack of health insurance was the only variable that negatively influenced the survival of the treatment with the 1st b-DMARD in patients with axSpA.

Objetivos: Evaluar y comparar la eficacia y la sobrevida a largo plazo de las Drogas Modificadoras de la Enfermedad-biológicas (DME-b) en Espondiloartritis Axial (EsPax) mediante el índice LUNDEX y determinar las variables asociadas a la discontinuación de las mismas. Material y métodos: Estudio multicéntrico de corte transversal. Se incluyeron pacientes con EsPax en tratamiento con DME-b. Se registraron variables sociodemográficas, terapéuticas y clínicas. Se consignaron fechas de inicio del tratamiento con DME-b, tratamiento concomitante, suspensión o cambio de tratamiento, y causas de suspensión. La eficacia terapéutica se definió según BASDAI a los 6, 12 meses y luego anualmente a partir del inicio de la DME-b. Se calculó el índice LUNDEX en estos períodos. Análisis estadístico: Estadística descriptiva. Test de Student y test Chi² o test exacto de Fisher. Curvas de Kaplan-Meier y Log-Rank. Análisis de regresión proporcional de Cox. Resultados: Se estudiaron 101 pacientes con EsPax, 80,2% varones, con una edad mediana de 42 años (RIC 35-54,5) y un tiempo mediano de evolución de la enfermedad de 19,3 años (RIC 9,4-28,8). El 26,7% de los pacientes no tenían seguro de salud. Los agentes anti-TNFα utilizados como 1º DME-b en orden de frecuencia fueron: Etanercept (ETN) 44,6%, Adalimumab (ADA) 41,6%, Infliximab 7,9% y Certolizumab 5,9%. En el 32,7% de los casos, la DME-b se administró en combinación con una droga modificadora de enfermedad convencional. La sobrevida media fue de 66,2 meses (IC 95%: 51,8-80,5). Debido a que ETN y ADA se utilizaron en el 85% de los pacientes estudiados, se realizaron comparaciones solamente entre estos agentes. El tiempo medio de supervivencia acumulada fue significaticamente menor para ETN versus ADA (X 53,18±8,8 vs X 74,8±8,9, Log-Rank p=0,02), siendo la causa principal de suspensión, la falta de provisión de la medicación. El tiempo promedio de supervivencia para aquellos que no tenían seguro de salud fue significativamente menor X 31,9 meses (IC 95%: 19-45) con respecto a aquellos pacientes con dicho seguro X 72,3 meses (IC 95%: 55,3-89,3), p=0,03. Luego de ajustar por factores confundidores, la falta de un seguro de salud fue la única variable asociada en forma independiente con menor supervivencia del DME-b (HR 2,54, IC 95%: 1,18-5,75). El LUNDEX global fue del 52,7% a los 6 meses y del 46,9% a los 12 meses. Conclusiones: La sobrevida promedio del 1º DME-b fue de 5,5 años. La falta de cobertura de salud fue la única variable que influyó negativamente en la sobrevida del tratamiento con el 1º DME-b en pacientes con EsPax.

Resumen Introducción: El sujeto obeso evidencia una disminución de la capacidad funcional (CF), que entre otros factores comprende una cinética del consumo de oxígeno (VO2) más lenta, asociada a una posible relación entre el tejido adiposo y una desregulación crónica del sistema nervioso autónomo, tanto en condiciones de reposo como de ejercicio. Objetivo: Analizar el comportamiento del tau rápido de la cinética off del consumo de oxígeno, luego de la aplicación de un protocolo de ejercicio interválico de alta intensidad y corta duración (HIIT) en un grupo de obesos. Metodología: Se diseñó un estudio comparativo, experimental y longitudinal de corto plazo en cinco sujetos obesos seleccionados por un muestreo no probabilístico intencionado. Se valoraron las siguientes variables: peso, talla, índice de masa corporal (IMC), perímetro de cintura, cinética del consumo de oxígeno y aquellas dependientes del procedimiento. Los datos de VO2 v/s tiempo se ingresaron al Software Graph Pad Prism 6, (Graph Pad Prism versión 6.01 para Windows®) donde se depuraron promediando intervalos de 10 segundos y fueron ajustados a un modelo de función bi-exponencial. Posteriormente se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo por medio del Software SigmaPlot 12.5 para Windows® usando las siguientes estadísticas de resumen: media, desviación estándar y rango. Resultados: La edad media fue 25,13 ± 0,62 años. La mayor variación al analizar los resultados en ambas fases del estudio (pre-intervención: 43,09 ± 7,78 s; post-intervención: 26,85 ± 3,78 s) se encontró en el tau rápido del VO2 (p= 0,034). Conclusiones: El entrenamiento de alta intensidad y corta duración realizado en un período de 10 días logra un efecto positivo sobre el componente rápido de la cinética off del VO2 para la población estudiada, mejorando así el tiempo de recuperación posterior al esfuerzo físico.

Abstract Introduction: Obese subjects exhibit a decreased functional capacity (FC) which, among other factors, entails a slower oxygen uptake kinetics associated to a pathological relationship between the adipose tissue and a chronically-deregulated autonomic nervous system, both in resting and exercise conditions. Objective: To analyze the fast-tau behavior of the oxygen consumption off-kinetics, after applying a high intensity and short duration intervallic exercise protocol (HIIT) in a group of obese men. Methodology: An exploratory, comparative, experimental and longitudinal short-term study of 5 obese subjects, selected by intentional non-probabilistic sampling, was designed. Weight, height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, kinetics of oxygen consumption and variables related to the procedure were assessed. Data from VO2 v/s time were compiled with Graph Pad Prism v. 6.01 by averaging 10-second intervals and fitted as a bi-exponential model. Subsequently, a descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SigmaPlot v. 12.5, calculating means, standard deviations and ranks. Results: Mean age was 25.13 ± 0.62 years. Highest variation when analyzing the results, in both phases of the study (pre-intervention: 43.09 ± 7.78 s; post-intervention: 26.85 ± 3.78 s), was found in the fast VO2 tau (p=0.034). Conclusion: The high-intensity, short-duration training performed over a 10-day period, achieves a positive effect on the rapid kinetic component of VO2 for the studied population, improving recovery time after physical exertion.

This work presents three MEMS mass sensor devices based in oscillating polysilicon cantilevers whose oscillation frequency shifts, due to corresponding changes of an added mass in the reaction container/area, can be better measured. An electrostatic actuator is used which consists of interdigitated electrodes configured to maximize the cantilever's oscillation amplitude. In consequence, integration design issues between the microelectromechanical device and the signal conditioning and acquisition circuitry are addressed. These designs are to be fabricated in the SUMMiT-V process and they can be suitable for biological or chemical applications. The feasibility of the proposed designs is supported by a mathematical model and FEA calculations performed in COMSOL and ANSYS and mass resolutions of de 3.43 pg/Hz, 6.71 pg/Hz y 17.31 pg/Hz were obtained.

Se presentan tres diseños de sensores de masa MEMS basados en vigas en voladizo de polisilicio, los cuales utilizan el principio de cambio de frecuencia debido a una masa añadida mientras operan en oscilación libre. Las estructuras se accionan mediante un actuador electroestático, que consiste en un peine de capacitores interdigitados, con una orientación tal que se maximiza la amplitud de oscilación del voladizo. En consecuencia se abordan problemas de integración entre las estructuras y un circuito electrónico de acondicionamiento. Los diseños se fabricarán por micro maquinado de superficie mediante el proceso SUMMiT-V y pueden ser adecuados para aplicaciones biológicas o químicas. La viabilidad de las propuestas se sustenta mediante análisis de elemento finito (FEA) realizados mediante la herramienta de COMSOL. Se obtuvo una sensitividad de 3.43 pg/Hz, 6.71 pg/Hz y 17.31 pg/Hz para cada uno de los tres diseños.
