The island of Fuerteventura is currently developing a tourist reorientation process from which certain goods begin to acquire new significations by means of their patrimonialization. The declaration of several spaces under different figures of protection reflects a strategy to channel tourism development model via "culture-nature". Gradually begins to be observed how the destination begins to be offered by an image of sustainable development supposedly based on scientific criteria. The result is a new reinterpretation of the patrimonialized elements in which largely is ignored the efficient involvement of local populations. The resulting conflicts reveal the different signification of these goods for the different actors and interests. This paper analyzes the configuration of the different projected images over these patrimonialized elements and the ways in which different collectives assign specific signification to them.

La isla de Fuerteventura está desarrollando un proceso de reorientación turística a partir del cual ciertos bienes comienzan a adquirir nuevas significaciones mediante su patrimonialización. La declaración de varios espacios bajo diferentes figuras de protección responde a una estrategia para canalizar el modelo de desarrollo turístico por la vía "cultura-naturaleza". Paulatinamente, el destino comienza a ofertarse bajo una imagen de desarrollo sostenible aparentemente sujeta a criterios de cientificidad. El resultado es una reinterpretación de los elementos patrimonializados en la que se prescinde de la implicación eficiente de las poblaciones locales. Los conflictos resultantes revelan la distinta significación de estos bienes para los diferentes actores e intereses. Este trabajo analiza la configuración de las diferentes imágenes proyectadas sobre dichos elementos patrimonializados y las maneras en que los distintos colectivos les asignan significados concretos.

Environmental degradation, the loss of cultural diversity and especially what is considered cultural heritage and ecology, are actually the main issues of every day life, politics, planning and business. During the Rio Meeting (Rio de Janeiro, 1992) the concept of Responsible Tourism was born in an attempt to enhance respect and preservation with all actors involved. Under the umbrella of responsibility, cultural tourism was one product that showed the biggest growth under the premises of the formula of all-embracing development of society. This article presents a revision of cultural tourism as a product, its importance for the new tourist order and its range and establishing in which way the tourist system had a tendency to get involved in cultural management and therefore as conditioned its profitability.

Cuestiones como la degradación el medioambiente, la pérdida de la diversidad cultural y especialmente lo considerado como patrimonio cultural y la ecología, son actualmente aspectos consustanciales a la vida cotidiana, a la política, a la planificación y a los negocios. En la Cumbre de la Tierra (Río de Janeiro, 1992) se acuña el concepto Turismo Responsable en un intento de impulsar el respeto y la preservación, implicando en la tarea a todos los actores. Bajo el paraguas de la responsabilidad, uno de los productos con mayor crecimiento y demanda en la última década ha sido el turismo cultural, planteado ahora como una de las fórmulas para la consecución del desarrollo integral de los pueblos. En este artículo se repasa el turismo cultural como producto, su importancia en el nuevo orden turístico y su alcance, constatando como a través de él el sistema turístico ha tendido a implicarse en la gestión de la cultura y condicionarla por su rentabilidad.

The cultural tourism is conceived as a form of alternative tourism that embodies the consummation of the commercialization of the culture. Chosen elements of any culture become products offered in the tourist market. This article argues that the processes of generation of cultural products lead to new forms of interpreting the authenticity and they express the dynamism and imagination of the local groups to adapt to the demands of the demand.

El turismo cultural es concebido como una forma de turismo alternativo que encarna la consumación de la comercialización de la cultura. Elementos escogidos de cualquier cultura pasan a ser productos ofertados en el mercado turístico. Este artículo argumenta que los procesos de generación de productos culturales conducen a nuevas formas de interpretar la autenticidad y expresan el dinamismo e imaginación de los grupos locales para adaptarse a las exigencias de la demanda.
