Resumen El objetivo de este artículo es explorar, mediante dos modelos de regresión logística multinominal, los factores que inciden en la pobreza multidimensional de las personas adultas mayores en México y en particular analizar cómo difieren entre mujeres y hombres. La fuente de información es la Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares 2020. Los resultados muestran la relevancia de analizar la pobreza desde un enfoque multidimensional, ya que las distintas categorías de pobreza pueden tener disimilitudes en sus determinantes. Igualmente arrojan algunas diferencias notables entre mujeres y hombres, en un contexto de feminización de la vejez. Las odds ratio del modelo econométrico muestran que ser jefe de hogar incrementa las razones de probabilidad para las mujeres y las reduce para los hombres; hablar lengua indígena y vivir en una localidad rural; aunque tienen el mismo efecto positivo para ambos, el incremento es mayor para las mujeres. Contar con red económica tiene un efecto inverso en todos los cuadrantes, con un efecto menor entre la población femenina.

Abstract The objective of this article is to explore, through two models of multinomial logistic regression, the factors that affect the multidimensional poverty among the elderly in Mexico and in particular to analyze how they differ between women and men. The source is the National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure 2020. Our econometric results show the relevance of analyzing poverty from a multidimensional approach, since we find noteworthy dissimilarities among the determinants by poverty categories. Moreover, the gender approach throws differences between women and men, in a context of old age feminization. Female household heading increases the odds ratio while reducing them for men. Speaking an indigenous language and living in a rural location, although with positive effect for both, the probability increase is greater for women. Lastly access to economic networks has an inverse effect in all categories, with a smaller effect among the female population.

ABSTRACT Leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis are zoonoses of occupational character that are spread worldwide, mainly in tropical and socioeconomically vulnerable areas. Both diseases have vertebrate hosts, which spread the infectious agent to the environment and are potentially infectious to humans and can progress to fatal cases. The present study reinforces the importance of One Health for the control and prophylaxis of leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis using sentinel animals in areas of socioeconomic vulnerability based on a serological study. A total of 336 blood samples were obtained from the canine population of the urban district, which has high rates of poverty and sanitation. The results were analyzed based on seroreactivity animals and georeferencing by kernel spatial mapping. A total of 43.3% (52/120) of the animals were seroreagents for anti-Leptospira spp., with a predominance of Canicola (35/52 = 67.3%) and Pyrogenes (5/52 = 9.6%), while 52.97% (178/336) of the dogs were seroreactive for anti-Toxoplasma gondii. The presence of seroreagent dogs for both zoonosis alert to the inadequate hygienic-sanitary conditions of the studied region, and highlight the importance of a survey of the social, economic and environmental structure to identify factors related to the links in the epidemiological chain of pathogen transmission and necessary corrective actions.

RESUMO Leptospirose e toxoplasmose são zoonoses de caráter ocupacional disseminadas mundialmente, principalmente em áreas tropicais e socioeconomicamente vulneráveis. Ambas as doenças têm hospedeiros vertebrados, que espalham o agente infeccioso para o meio ambiente e são potencialmente infecciosos para o homem, as quais podem evoluir para casos fatais. O presente estudo reforça a importância da saúde única para o controle e a profilaxia da leptospirose e da toxoplasmose, mediante a utilização de animais sentinela em áreas de vulnerabilidade socioeconômica, com base em estudo sorológico. Um total de 336 amostras de sangue foi obtido da população canina de um distrito urbano que apresenta altos índices de pobreza e ausência de saneamento básico. Os resultados foram analisados com base em animais sororreagentes e georreferenciados por mapeamento espacial de Kernel. Um total de 43,3% (52/120) dos animais foi sororreagente para anti-Leptospira spp., com predominância de Canicola (35/52 = 67,3%) e Pirogenes (5/52 = 9,6%), enquanto 52,97% (178/336) dos cães foram sororreagentes para anti-Toxoplasma gondii. A presença de cães sororreagentes para ambas as doenças alerta para as condições higiênico-sanitárias inadequadas da região estudada e evidencia a importância de um levantamento da estrutura social, econômica e ambiental para identificar fatores relacionados aos elos da cadeia epidemiológica de transmissão do patógeno e ações corretivas necessárias.

Resumo A espécie Eugenia involucrata DC. é uma planta nativa do Brasil e tradicionalmente utilizada para problemas intestinais, porém, poucas pesquisas documentam sobre seu potencial biológico e perfil fitoquímico. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma prospecção fitoquímica preliminar, o potencial antimicrobiano e antioxidante dos extratos de E. involucrata. A partir das folhas de E. involucrata, foram obtidos extratos aquosos e orgânicos com os seguintes solventes (etanol, metanol, hexano, acetona, diclorometano e acetato de etila). A prospecção fitoquímica detectou a presença de saponinas, esteroides, flavonóides e taninos nos extratos. Os extratos etanólico e metanólico apresentaram atividade antimicrobiana para a maioria das cepas bacterianas testadas, assim como para a levedura Candida albicans, com concentrações entre 3,12 e 50 mg/mL. Os extratos etanólico e metanólico apresentaram alto potencial de sequestro de radicais livres (> 90%). O extrato metanólico apresentou IC50 estatisticamente igual ao encontrado para o antioxidante comercial BHT (p <0,05). Os extratos brutos obtidos com etanol e metanol foram os mais promissores. Esses resultados sugerem que os extratos metanólico, etanólico e aquoso são uma fonte promissora de bioativos naturais.

Abstract The species Eugenia involucrata DC. is a plant native to Brazil and is traditionally used for intestinal problems, however, little research has documented about its biological potential and phytochemical profile. Thus, the objective of this study was to carry out preliminary phytochemical prospecting, antimicrobial and antioxidant potential of E. involucrata extracts. Using the E. involucrata leaves, aqueous and organic extracts were obtained using the following solvents (ethanol, methanol, hexane, acetone, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate). The phytochemical prospecting detected the presence of saponins, steroids, flavonoids and tannins in the extracts. Ethanolic and methanolic extracts presented antimicrobial activity for most of the bacterial strains tested, as well as for yeast Candida albicans, with concentrations between 3.12 and 50 mg/mL. The ethanolic and metanolic extract presented high free radical sequestration potential (>90%). The methanol extract showed an IC50 value statistically equal to that found for the commercial antioxidant BHT (p <0.05). The crude extracts obtained with ethanol and methanol were the most promising. These results suggest that methanolic, ethanolic and aqueous extracts are a promising source of natural bioactive.

RESUMO: Pombos urbanos são conhecidos pela sua capacidade de carrear e disseminar diversos agentes zoonóticos. Estudos tem sugerido que pombos são também relevantes na disseminação de estirpes resistentes a múltiplas drogas. No presente estudo, pombos no ambiente de um hospital veterinário foram amostrados em três diferentes períodos e testados para a presença de Escherichia coli patogênica, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp. e Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile. Isolados de E. coli de 19 pombos (40.4%) foram positivos para o gene codificador da toxina EAST1. O gene codificador de intimina (eae) do patotipo E. coli enteropatogênica foi encontrada em um isolado (2.1%). Salmonella spp. foi encontrada em nove pombos (19.1%), sendo todos isolados do primeiro período de captura (P < 000.1). S. Typhimurium foi isolado de seis animais e S. Heidelberg de três. A tipagem molecular de isolados de Salmonella spp. por ERIC-PCR demonstrou que oito estirpes possuíam alta similaridade genética entre si, sugerindo a ocorrência de um surto de salmonelose nos animais carreadores. Vinte Staphylococcus (42.5%) foram isolados de 18 animais (38.3%). Oito diferentes espécies foram detectadas, sendo S. xylosus a mais frequente. Duas estirpes de C. difficile não-toxigênica (4.3%) foram isoladas. Uma estirpe de S. Typhimurium, uma de S. aureus e um isolado de C. difficile foram classificados como resistentes a múltiplas drogas antimicrobianas. O presente estudo sugere que pombos capturados no ambiente do hospital veterinário podem atuar como reservatórios e disseminadores de bactérias patogênicas e envolvidas em infecção hospitalar, incluindo E. coli diarreiogênica e Staphylococcus sp., C. difficile e Salmonella spp multirresistente.

ABSTRACT: Pigeons are known for their capacity to harbor and spread several zoonotic agents. Studies have suggested that pigeons are also relevant disseminators of multidrug-resistant strains. In this study, pigeons surrounding a veterinary hospital were sampled and tested for the presence of pathogenic Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile. E. coli isolates from 19 (40.4%) pigeons tested positive for the E. coli heat-stable enterotoxin 1 (EAST1)-encoding gene. The intimin-encoding gene (eae) of enteropathogenicE. coli (EPEC) was found in one isolate (2.1%). Salmonella spp. were found in nine (19.1%) pigeons, all from the first capture event (P < 000.1). S. Typhimurium and S. Heidelberg were isolated from six and three pigeons, respectively. Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC-PCR) of the Salmonella spp. isolates suggested that eight of the nine strains had a high genetic similarity, supporting the hypothesis of an outbreak of salmonellosis in these pigeons. Twenty (42.5%) staphylococcal isolates were recovered from 18 (38.3%) pigeons. Eight different species were detected, with S. xylosus being the most frequent. Two (4.3%) C. difficile strains were isolated. Three isolates, one each of S. Typhimurium, S. aureus, and C. difficile, were classified as multidrug-resistant strains. The present research suggested that pigeons residing in urban areas can act as reservoirs and disseminators of pathogenic bacteria, including nosocomial pathogens, such as diarrheagenicE. coli and multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus spp., C. difficile, and Salmonella spp.

Abstract The dwarf pequi tree, Caryocar brasiliense subsp. intermedium, is extremely restricted to ecological niches in the Cerrado biome. Thus, understanding the conditioning factors of the micro-endemism of this sub-species through its spatial distribution and the physical-chemical attributes of the soil was the objective of this research. The research was carried out in a fragment of rupestrian field. The area was divided into quadrants in which the number of pequi trees was quantified and the physicochemical characteristics of the soil were determined. The modeling of semivariograms was performed using semivariances, and ordinary kriging was used for spatial interpolation of variables with spatial dependence. The number of pequi trees, the altitude, the remaining phosphorus and the humidity showed a strong degree of spatial dependence, unlike the pH, the calcium and the magnesium, all of which had a pure nugget effect. The other variables showed a moderate degree of spatial dependence. The greater availability of bases (SB > 0.1 cmolc dm-3) and phosphorus (> 1.05 mg dm-3), the reduced percentage of moisture (< 5%) and low potential acidity (< 4.0 cmolc dm-3) were the factors positively related to the establishment and development of the dwarf pequi tree in the area.

Abstract In describing Cyclocancer to accommodate his new species C. tuberculatus, Beurlen highlighted that his new genus was a cancroid intermediate in form between Atelecyclus and Cancer, but with enough characters to be placed in a new genus. Examination of C. tuberculatus type material revealed that Cyclocancer is a junior synonym of Hepatus. Therefore, C. tuberculatus is herein transferred into Hepatus as H. beurleni nomen novum because H. tuberculatus (Beurlen, 1958) is a junior homonym of H. tuberculatusSaussure (1858), a junior synonym of Hepatus pudibundus (Herbst, 1785). Miohepatus gen. nov., comb. nov. is proposed here to accommodate Hepatella amazonica Beurlen from the Pirabas Formation, Neogene, Pará, Brazil, based on new morphological evidence from the type material.

Abstract This article performs an analysis of female participation in science, in the Brazilian system of graduate studies and scientific research as a case study. This is relevant because science is a central supporting structure for modern societies and, therefore, a detailed analysis of the scientific power structure behind academic policy creation can reveal aspects of androcentrism in scientific activity. The main goal of this work is to identify the process of misogyny in science by describing its reproductive pattern. Our results show that women are around 50% of the undergraduate and graduate students when all fields are taken into consideration, but only 37% of the researchers in the CNPq system. We also observe a significant increase in female percentage within scientific activities at the initial and intermediary levels, except for the most prestigious areas as hard science. However, a scissor effect is identified between the initial level and the more prominent positions. This unbalanced participation reveals that female occupations in science are mostly as lower workforce since women are quite far from the social decision-making circles in this career

Medicinal products based on the Cannabis sativa plant are available in Brazil, among them, drug, cannabis products, individual import products, and those provided by patient associations. Despite this, there is no monograph for the evaluation of cannabinoids in Brazilian Pharmacopoeia (BP) or other compendia accepted. Therefore, this work aimed to develop a quick and easy method to quantify cannabinoids in authorized products for medicinal purposes. The method was developed by HPLC-UV, gradient elution composed of formic acid in acetonitrile and water, the flow rate of 0.6 mL min-1 and 220 nm detection. It was possible to resolve the peaks of cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiolic acid and cannabinol and to quantify CBD (105.35%; 104.07%) and THC (106.62%). The developed method was applied to two products and met the established requirements of precision, accuracy, linearity, and selectivity. This procedure has been tested on four cannabis-based products to attest to its effectiveness. Considering the importance of establishing minimum quality requirements for medicinal products and considering the available products in Brazil, it was found that it is important to evaluate the implementation of other products in the method developed for future validation and later inclusion in the BP.

Abstract Capillaria Zeder, 1800, parasitizes the organs and tissues of several hosts, including the domestic duck Cairina moschata (Linnaeus). This article describes a new species of Capillaria in domestic ducks identified based on morphological studies and molecular analyses of the ribosomal RNA gene. Thirty-eight specimens of C. moschata from the municipality of Soure, Marajó Island, Pará, Brazil. The organs of the birds' digestive tract were analyzed under a stereomicroscope to confirm the parasitic infection, after which the collected nematodes were identified by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and molecular analysis. Capillariids parasitized the intestine and cecum of the examined birds. These parasites had three bacillary bands and a pair of elongated precloacal papillae on the tail. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the new species formed a sister clade with Capillaria spinulosa (Linstow, 1890), as described in Indonesia and Japan. Based on morphological distinctions and molecular data, Capillaria cairina n. sp. can be considered a new parasite species of C. moschata in the Brazilian Amazon.

Resumo Capillaria Zeder, 1800 parasitam órgãos e tecidos de diversos hospedeiros, incluindo o pato doméstico Cairina moschata (Linnaeus). Este artigo descreve uma nova espécie de Capillaria em patos domésticos, identificada com base em estudos morfológicos e análises moleculares do gene do RNA ribossomal. Trinta e oito espécimes de C. moschata oriundo dos no município de Soure, Ilha de Marajó, Pará, Brasil. Os órgãos do aparelho digestivo das aves foram analisados em estereomicroscópio para confirmar a infecção parasitária. Após, os nematódeos coletados foram identificados por microscopia de luz, microscopia eletrônica de varredura e análises moleculares. Os capilarídeos parasitaram intestino e ceco das aves examinadas. Esses parasitas apresentaram três bandas bacilares e um par de papilas pré-cloacais alongadas na cauda. A análise filogenética indicou que a nova espécie formou um clado irmão com Capillaria spinulosa (Linstow, 1890), conforme descrito na Indonésia e no Japão. Com base na distinção morfológica e dados moleculares, Capillaria cairina n. sp. pode ser considerada uma nova espécie de parasita de C. moschata na Amazonia brasileira.

ABSTRACT The goal of this paper was to apply a method for the delineation of vegetation homogeneous zones (HZs) to map the profitability of cotton ( Gossypium sp.) using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) data from RPA imagery. Two irrigated cotton crops, at the FAU (103 ha) and FRP farms (106 ha), located in the western region of Bahia State, Brazil, were studied. The NDVI images were classified into three HZs: “high”, “medium” and “low” plant vigor; using the k-means clustering method. In each HZ the yield was measured, and the profitability estimated. In FAU we found that the lower the HZ’s NDVI values, the lower its profitability, because there was profit in the “high vigor” HZ, of US$ 829.40 ha-1, and loss in the “low vigor” HZ, of about US$ ‒1.256.09 ha-1 (‒251.44% compared with the “high vigor”). In the FRP plantation, the lower the NDVI values, the lower the loss of the plantation, as there were losses in all HZs: from “high” to “low vigor” HZ, the percentage difference in profitability was ‒343.43%. Thus, the use of a low-cost modified near-infrared Canon S100 on an RPA enabled the mapping of crop profitability, aiding the search for the factors behind yield variability.

Abstract Amazonian strains of Cyathus spp. and Geastrum spp. were studied for the ability to discolor the trypan blue azo dye and reduce its toxicity. Discoloration of trypan blue dye (0.05%) was evaluated in solid and aqueous medium over different periods. The reduction of dye toxicity after treatment was assessed by seed germination and the development of lettuce seedlings (Lactuca sativa L.) and toxicity test in Artemia salina (L.) larvae. All evaluated strains showed the potential to reduce the color intensity of trypan blue dye. Cyathus strains reached 96% discoloration, and C. albinus and C. limbatus also reduced dye toxicity. Geastrum strains showed a high efficiency degree in color reduction, reaching 98% discoloration, however, the by-products generated during the process presented toxicity and require further investigation. For the first time, Amazonian strains of gasteroid fungi degrading trypan blue are reported, some even reducing its toxicity. Thus, making them promising sources of enzymes of interest to bioremediation scenarios involving synthetic dyes.

Resumo Cepas amazônicas de Cyathus spp. e Geastrum spp. foram estudadas quanto a capacidade de descolorir o corante azo Azul de tripano e reduzir sua toxicidade. Foi avaliada a descoloração do corante Azul de tripano (0,05%) em meio sólido e aquoso sob diferentes períodos de tempo. A redução da toxicidade do corante após o tratamento foi avaliada através da germinação de sementes e do desenvolvimento de plântulas de alface (Lactuca sativa L.), além do teste de toxicidade em larvas de Artemia salina (L.). Todas as cepas avaliadas apresentaram potencial de reduzir a intensidade da coloração do corante azul de tripano. As cepas de Cyathus alcançaram 96% de descoloração, sendo que C. albinus e C. limbatus também reduziram a toxicidade do corante. As cepas de Geastrum apresentaram alto grau de eficiência na redução de cor, alcançando 98% de descoloração, porém, os subprodutos gerados durante o processo apresentaram toxicidade e necessitam de maior atenção. Pela primeira vez se relata cepas amazônicas de fungos gasteroides degradando o Azul de tripano, algumas ainda reduzindo sua toxicidade, tornando-as fontes promissoras de enzimas de interesse em cenários de biorremediação envolvendo corantes sintéticos.

ABSTRACT: The parasitic fauna of Podocnemididae species is of great relevance to understanding the ecological relationships of the organisms in this genus. The parasites can have a symbiotic relationship with their hosts; however, environmental imbalances may change this relationship. Therefore, these parasites may become agents that generate zoonoses, especially in animals used by parasites as a food source. The aim of this study was to investigate the gastrointestinal parasitic fauna of specimens of Podocnemis unifilis. The animals were collected from the Tocantins and Javaés Rivers, both of which flow in the State of Tocantins, predominantly in the Cerrado territory. Samples of stomach and intestinal contents were fixed in 10% formalin buffered with sodium phosphate, transferred to 70% alcohol for analysis, and separated after 72 hours. Parasites were isolated and identified according to morphology and identification key. Four species of parasites were observed in 100% of specimens of P. unifilis, namely Nematophila grandis (Trematoda) and Paratractis hystrix, Paraorientatractis semiannulata, and Orientatractis leiperi (Nematoda). N. grandis was the only parasite that was not observed in the intestine; it appeared to adhere to the inner wall of the stomach. All nematodes were observed both in the stomach and intestine. These data expand the knowledge related to the P. unifilis parasitic fauna and the geographic distribution of these parasites in P. unifilis from the Tocantins and Javaés Rivers.

RESUMO: A fauna parasitológica das espécies de Podocnemididae é de grande relevância para o conhecimento das relações ecológicas desse grupo de vertebrados. Os parasitos podem ocorrer em simbiose com os seus hospedeiros sem causar danos, mas o desequilíbrio ambiental pode causar um desequilíbrio nessa relação e, assim, serem agentes geradores de zoonoses, especialmente em animais que são utilizados como recurso alimentar. Esta pesquisa fez o levantamento da fauna parasitária gastrointestinal de espécimes de Podocnemis unifilis. Os animais foram coletados no rio Tocantins e Javaés, ambos no Estado do Tocantins, em território predominante de Cerrado. As amostras de conteúdo estomacal e intestinal foram fixadas em formol a 10% tamponado em fosfato de sódio, transferidas para álcool 70% para análise e separação após 72 horas. Os parasitos foram separados e identificados de acordo com morfologia e chave de identificação. Foram encontradas quatro espécies de parasitos com prevalência em 100% dos espécimes de P. unifilis, sendo elas Nematophila grandis (Trematoda) e Paratractis hystrix, Paraorientatractis semiannulata e Orientatractis leiperi (Nematoda). Somente N. grandis não foi observado no intestino, sendo encontrado somente aderido à parede interna do estômago. Todos os nematoides foram observados no estômago e intestino. Esses dados ampliam o conhecimento sobre a fauna parasitária de P. unifilis, e aumentam o conhecimento sobre a distribuição geográfica desses parasitos em P. unifilis dos Rios Tocantins e Javaés.

ABSTRACT A 49-year-old patient with changes in the nails of the hallux for 10 years was diagnosed with onychomycosis. The identity of the causative agent was confirmed as Cladosporium halotolerans from the Cladosporium sphaerospermum species complex using molecular techniques. MALDI-TOF identified the agent as C. sphaerospermum complex species. Overall, species such as onychomycosis agents should attract special attention to avoid mistakes in the identification process while considering a probable contaminant as responsible for the disease. These species deserve attention since there are rare descriptions of them as causes of onychomycosis. It is important to recognize them as causes of disease and not just as a probable contaminant.

ABSTRACT Compared to monoculture, vegetable intercropping allows the optimization of environmental resources and inputs, with positive effects on the yield and profitability of the crop. This study aimed to evaluate the yield of lettuce and arugula in intercropping and intercrop evaluation indexes according to cattle manure doses. The experiment was conducted in Aquidauana, MS, Brazil. Five doses of cattle manure (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 t ha-1) were evaluated with four replications in a randomized block design. Higher growth and yield of the intercropped species were observed when the intercrop received 60 t ha-1 of cattle manure. However, the maximum values of the variables were not reached, so better performances can be obtained with higher doses. The indexes of actual yield loss and advantage of intercropping presented higher values starting at doses of 26 and 30 t ha-1 of manure, respectively. The highest land use efficiency (1.28) was obtained with 60 t ha-1 of cattle manure, indicating the agronomic viability of the lettuce and arugula intercrop when fertilized only with cattle manure.

RESUMO Comparado à monocultura, o consórcio de hortaliças possibilita otimizar os recursos ambientais e insumos, com reflexos positivos sobre a produtividade e rentabilidade do cultivo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a produtividade da alface e rúcula em cultivo consorciado e índices de avaliação de consórcios em função de doses de esterco bovino. O experimento foi realizado em Aquidauana, MS, Brasil. Foram avaliados cinco doses de esterco bovino (0, 15, 30, 45 e 60 t ha-1), em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Maior crescimento e produtividade das espécies consorciadas foram observados quando o consórcio recebeu 60 t ha-1 de esterco bovino. Porém, não foram alcançados os máximos valores das características e, portanto, melhores desempenhos podem ser obtidos com doses mais elevadas. Os índices perda real de produtividade e vantagem do consórcio apresentaram maiores valores a partir das doses de 26 e 30 t ha-1 de esterco, respectivamente. A maior eficiência no uso da terra (1,28) foi obtida com 60 t ha-1 de esterco bovino, indicando a viabilidade agronômica do consórcio de alface e rúcula quando adubado somente com esterco bovino.

ABSTRACT Technologies that improve water use efficiency (WUE) and increase crop yields are essential for the development of a responsible and productive agriculture. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate economical planting beds with the use of mulching and application of different irrigation water depths as a water-saving technology, and determine the irrigation water depth that promote the optimal plant development and fruit yield and quality of two cherry tomato cultivars. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, Serra Talhada, PE, Brazil. A randomized block experimental design with split-plots (5×2) was used, with plots consisting of five irrigation water depths (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, and 125% of the crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and subplots consisting of two cherry tomato cultivars (Carolina and Yubi), with four replications, totaling 40 experimental units. The development of tomato plants was evaluated through biometric measurements of stem diameter, plant height, and canopy area. Additionally, the following variables were evaluated during fruit harvest: number of fruits, mean fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit yield, WUE, titratable acidity, pH, and soluble solids content. The economical planting beds promoted increases in WUE. Irrigation water depths lower than 100% of ETc resulted in better plant development and higher fruit yield, number of fruits, and WUE for the evaluated cherry tomato plants. The cultivar Carolina exhibited higher production performance compared to Yubi.

RESUMO Tecnologias que promovam o aumento da eficiência do uso da água (EUA) e incremento na produtividade é indispensável para o desenvolvimento de uma agricultura responsável e produtiva. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se avaliar ‘canteiros econômicos’ com a utilização de mulching, aplicando diferentes lâminas de irrigação para consolidar o uso desses canteiros como uma tecnologia que propicia a economia de água, da mesma forma que, encontrar a lâmina de irrigação que promova o melhor desenvolvimento, rendimento produtivo e qualidade de duas cultivares de tomatecereja. A pesquisa foi conduzida na Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco em Serra Talhada - PE. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados com parcelas subdivididas (5 x 2), onde foram consideradas parcelas cinco lâminas de irrigação (25, 50, 75, 100, e 125% da Evapotranspiração da cultura - ETc) e subparcelas duas cultivares de tomate-cereja (Carolina e Yubi), com quatro repetições, totalizando 40 unidades experimentais. O desenvolvimento do tomateiro foi avaliado mediante coletas biométricas de diâmetro do caule, altura da planta e área da copa. Ademais, durante a colheita foi avaliado o número de frutos, massa média dos frutos, diâmetro dos frutos, produtividade, EUA, acidez titulável, potencial hidrogeniônico e sólidos solúveis dos frutos. Os canteiros econômicos promoveram aumento da EUA. Lâminas de irrigação inferiores a 100% da ETc possibilitaram maior desenvolvimento, produtividade, número de frutos e EUA do tomatecereja. A cultivar Carolina apresentou melhor desempenho produtivo comparado a Yubi.
