Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to verify the adequacy of affordances in the home environment of children at risk of developmental delay and to identify factors associated with their frequency. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 97 families who responded to the Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development — Infant Scale (AHEMD-IS) for 3–18 months (n=63), or AHEMD – Self-Report (AHEMD-SR) for 18–42 months (n=34). The Mann-Whitney U test was used to identify the differences between the frequencies of affordances between the groups. Multiple linear regression was used to verify the association between the child’s sex, mother’s marital status, education, socioeconomic level, child and mother’s ages, house residents’ number, per capita income, and AHEMD scores (α=0.05). Results: The home affordances’ frequency in the AHEMD-IS ranged from less than adequate to excellent, while in the AHEMD-SR, the highest predominance was medium. The offer of stimuli in the AHEMD-IS was significantly higher. Higher socioeconomic level and house residents’ number were associated with greater affordances. Conclusions: The higher the socioeconomic level and house residents’ number, the greater the affordances in the homes of children at risk of delay. It is necessary to provide families with some alternatives to make their home environments richer in affordances that favor child development.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a adequação das oportunidades de ação no ambiente doméstico de crianças em risco de atraso no desenvolvimento e identificar fatores associados à sua frequência. Métodos Este estudo transversal incluiu 97 famílias que responderam ao Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development - Infant Scale (AHEMD-IS) para 3–18 meses (n=63) ou o Self Report (AHEMD-SR) para 18–42 meses (n=34). O teste de Mann-Whitney foi utilizado para identificar as diferenças entre as frequências de oportunidades de ação entre os grupos. A regressão linear múltipla foi utilizada para verificar a associação entre o sexo da criança, o estado civil, a escolaridade e nível socioeconômico da mãe, as idades da criança e da mãe, o número de residentes da casa, a renda per capita e os escores do AHEMD (α=0,05). Resultados A frequência das oportunidades de ação dos domicílios no AHEMD-IS variou de menos do que adequado a excelente; enquanto, no AHEMD-SR, a maior predominância foi de média frequência. A oferta de estímulos no AHEMD-IS foi significativamente maior. O maior nível socioeconômico e o número de moradores da casa foram associados a maiores oportunidades de ação. Conclusões Quanto maior o nível socioeconômico e o número de moradores, maiores são as oportunidades de ação nos domicílios das crianças em risco de atraso. É necessário oferecer às famílias algumas alternativas para tornar os seus ambientes domésticos mais ricos em oportunidades de ação que favoreçam o desenvolvimento infantil.

Contribution of public oral pathology services to the diagnosis of oral and oropharyngeal cancer in Brazil

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.

ABSTRACT Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) is a progressive language disorder associated with frontotemporal impairment and mainly affects the left hemisphere of the brain. In general, this condition compromises abilities related to comprehension and expression of language. The diagnosis of PPA depends on in-depth knowledge regarding functions of language, neurology, and neuropsychology. Speech and language therapists (SLTs) have a pivotal role in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of PPA. The absence of these professionals involved in the diagnosis and rehabilitation may reflect on the quality of care of people with PPA. Objective: To identify the sociodemographic, educational, and professional practice characteristics of SLTs who work with people with PPA in Brazil. Methods: An online questionnaire was disseminated to reach SLTs across Brazil. The questionnaire collected information regarding sociodemographics, training and education, practice (time, setting, service provision), and sources of referral. Results: The study included 71 participants (95.8% women). Specialization was the most frequent educational level followed by master’s degree, and participants where mainly from the Southeast and South regions of Brazil. Neurologists were the professionals who most referred patients with PPA to SLTs. Finally, SLTs worked primarily in homecare settings and provided mainly individual therapy services. Conclusion: SLTs who work with PPA in Brazil can be characterized mainly as professionals with postgraduate degrees, relatively young, and from the South and Southeast regions of Brazil.

RESUMO A afasia progressiva primária (APP) é um distúrbio progressivo da linguagem associado à atrofia de regiões frontotemporais predominantemente do hemisfério esquerdo do cérebro. De modo geral, a APP afeta as capacidades compreensivas e expressivas da linguagem. O diagnóstico depende de profissionais com profundo conhecimento das funções da linguagem, neurologia e neuropsicologia. A fonoaudiologia tem papel essencial no diagnóstico e reabilitação da APP, e a ausência de fonoaudiólogos nesses processos pode refletir na qualidade do cuidado das pessoas com APP. Objetivo: Identificar as características sociodemográficas, educacionais e de atuação profissional de fonoaudiólogos que atuam com APP no Brasil. Métodos: Foi distribuído um questionário em formato online para fonoaudiólogos de todo o Brasil. O questionário coletou informações sobre aspectos sociodemográficos, de formação, atuação profissional (tempo, local de atuação, tipo de serviço oferecido) e fontes de encaminhamento. Resultados: O estudo incluiu 71 participantes (95,8% mulheres). O nível educacional mais frequente foi a especialização, e as regiões demográficas com maior incidência de profissionais que atendiam APP foram as Regiões Sudeste e Sul do país. Os neurologistas foram os profissionais que mais encaminhavam pacientes com APP para os fonoaudiólogos. Por fim, os fonoaudiólogos atuavam, principalmente, em homecare e realizando, em sua maioria, terapia individual. Conclusão: Os fonoaudiólogos que atuam com APP no Brasil podem ser caracterizados principalmente como profissionais pós-graduados, relativamente jovens e das Regiões Sul e Sudeste do Brasil.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to build and validate a simulated scenario and checklist to assess skills in the care of hemodynamically unstable patients with evolution to Cardiorespiratory Arrest, and to test applicability to the target population, assessing skills and satisfaction/self-confidence with learning. Method: methodological study carried out in three stages (development of the scenario and checklist, validation by judges and pilot test) between April 2020 and September 2021, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Fourteen judges and 24 nursing students participated. Results: the scenario and checklist achieved a Content Validity Coefficient greater than 90. The skills were adequately developed, with a mean of 4.71 ± 0.24 on the satisfaction-self-confidence scale, and 4.83 ± 0.25 for simulation design. Conclusion: The scenario may contribute to improving educational activities in undergraduate and health education and subsidize future studies to increase the quality of care and assistance to hemodynamically unstable patients with evolution to cardiac arrest.

RESUMEN Objetivos: construir y validar un escenario simulado y una lista de verificación para evaluar las habilidades en la atención de pacientes hemodinámicamente inestables con evolución a Parada Cardiorrespiratoria; y probar la aplicabilidad a la población objetivo, evaluando las habilidades y la satisfacción/autoconfianza con el aprendizaje. Método: estudio metodológico realizado en tres etapas (desarrollo del escenario y lista de verificación, validación por jueces y prueba piloto) entre abril de 2020 y septiembre de 2021, en el estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Participaron 14 jueces y 24 estudiantes de enfermería. Resultados: el escenario y la lista de verificación alcanzaron un Coeficiente de Validez de Contenido superior a 90. Las habilidades se desarrollaron adecuadamente, con una media de 4,71 ± 0,24 en la escala de satisfacción-autoconfianza, y de 4,83 ± 0,25 para el diseño de la simulación. Conclusión: el escenario puede contribuir a: mejorar las actividades educativas de pregrado y formación sanitaria; y subvencionar futuros estudios para aumentar la calidad de la atención y asistencia a pacientes hemodinámicamente inestables con evolución a parada cardiaca.

Abstract Objective This is a mixed-methodology controlled clinical study that assessed the effect of the Health Lifestyle Deck of cards as a Cognitive-Behavioral Group Therapy tool for obese adults. Method The sample was divided into two groups: Intervention group and Intervention+Deck. The therapy was interdisciplinary handled by psychology, nutrition and physical education professionals, along 12 sessions. The following measures were performed: anthropometric assessment, indicators of binge eating, depression, anxiety and stress, quality of life, self-efficacy for eating habits, and physical activity at the beginning and the end of the intervention. Participants’ written and verbal reports’ content was analyzed. Results The results were: a reduction in body mass, binge eating, and improvement of self-efficacy to regulate eating habits in both groups. There was an improvement in the psychological domain of quality of life only in the Intervention+Deck group. Conclusion The study concluded that the intervention favored participants’ cognitive and behavioral changes.

Resumo Objetivo Este estudo clínico controlado de metodologia mista avaliou o efeito do Baralho do Estilo de Vida como ferramenta da Terapia Cognitivo-comportamental em grupo de adultos com obesidade. Método A amostra foi dividida em dois grupos: grupo Intervenção e grupo Intervenção+Baralho. A terapia foi interdisciplinar com profissionais da psicologia, nutrição e educação física e foram realizadas 12 sessões. As avaliações realizadas foram: avaliação antropométrica, indicadores de compulsão alimentar, depressão, ansiedade e estresse, qualidade de vida, autoeficácia para hábito alimentar e atividade física no início e no fim da intervenção. Foi realizada análise de conteúdo dos relatos verbais e por escrito dos participantes. Resultados Neste sentido, verificou-se redução da massa corporal, da compulsão alimentar e melhora da autoeficácia para regular o hábito alimentar nos dois grupos. Houve melhora no domínio psicológico da qualidade de vida apenas no grupo Intervenção+Baralho. Conclusão O estudo concluiu que a intervenção favoreceu mudanças cognitivas e comportamentais dos participantes.

BACKGROUND Trypanosoma cruzi, which causes Chagas disease (CD), is a versatile haemoparasite that uses several strategies to evade the host’s immune response, including adipose tissue (AT), used as a reservoir of infection. As it is an effective barrier to parasite evasion, the effectiveness of the drug recommended for treating CD, Benznidazole (BZ), may be questionable. OBJECTIVE To this end, we evaluated the parasite load and immunomodulation caused by BZ treatment in the culture of adipocytes differentiated from human adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSC) infected with T. cruzi. METHODS The ADSC were subjected to adipogenic differentiation. We then carried out four cultures in which we infected the differentiated AT with trypomastigote forms of the Y strain of T. cruzi and treated them with BZ. After the incubation, the infected AT was subjected to quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to quantify the parasite load and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to verify the infection. The supernatant was collected to measure cytokines, chemokines, and adipokines. FINDINGS We found elevated secretion of IL-6, CXCL-10/IP-10, CCL2/MCP-1, CCL5/RANTES, and leptin in infected fat cells. However, treatment with BZ promoted a decrease in IL-6. MAIN CONCLUSION Therefore, we believe that BZ has a beneficial role as it reduces inflammation in infected fat cells.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Congenital vascular anomalies and hemangiomas (CVAH) such as infantile hemangiomas, port-wine stains and brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) impair patients’ lives and may require treatment if complications occur. However, a great variety of treatments for those conditions exist and the best interventions remain under discussion. OBJECTIVE: To summarize Cochrane systematic review (SR) evidence on treatments for CVAH. DESIGN AND SETTING: Review of SRs conducted in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: A broad search was conducted on March 9, 2021, in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews to retrieve any Cochrane SRs that assessed treatments for CVAH. The key characteristics and results of all SRs included were summarized and discussed. RESULTS: A total of three SRs fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were presented as a qualitative synthesis. One SR reported a significant clinical reduction of skin redness by at least 20%, with more pain, among 103 participants with port-wine stains. One SR reported that propranolol improved the likelihood of clearance 13 to 16-fold among 312 children with hemangiomas. One SR reported that the relative risk of death or dependence was 2.53 times greater in the intervention arm than with conservative management, among 218 participants with brain AVMs. CONCLUSION: Cochrane reviews suggest that treatment of port-wine stains with pulsed-dye laser improves redness; propranolol remains the best option for infantile hemangiomas; and conservative management seems to be superior to surgical intervention for treating brain AVMs.

RESUMO Introdução As fraturas do terço distal do antebraço são comuns na população pediátrica. O tratamento conservador da fratura ipsilateral da metáfise distal da ulna é um dos fatores de risco para a perda da redução. Recomenda-se a fixação percutânea da fratura com fios K. Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar o resultado da fixação percutânea de ambos os ossos realizada como tratamento primário. Materiais e Métodos Foi realizado um estudo clínico randomizado, aberto e prospectivo, que incluiu pacientes com esqueleto imaturo que foram submetidos à cirurgia para fraturas da parte distal do rádio e a ulna. Os participantes foram randomizados em dois grupos, um com fixação apenas da fratura do rádio e outro com fixação das fraturas do rádio e da ulna, e foram acompanhados clínica e radiologicamente por até 12 semanas de pós-operatório. Resultados Dezesseis crianças foram selecionadas. No intraoperatório, a fluoroscopia foi ativada por mais tempo na fixação da ulna (p = 0,011) e o tempo cirúrgico foi maior nesse grupo (p = 0,014). Nas avaliações pós-operatórias, o grupo cuja cirurgia envolveu a fixação de ambos os ossos teve escore de dor menor depois da cirurgia (p < 0,001) e menos tempo de afastamento da escola (p < 0,001). Conclusões Neste estudo, a dor pós-operatória e o afastamento da escola foram menores quando se realizou fixação do rádio e da ulna. Nível de Evidência II; Estudo randomizado controlado.

ABSTRACT Introduction Fractures of the distal third of the forearm are common in the pediatric population. Conservative treatment of an ipsilateral fracture of the distal ulna metaphysis is one of the risk factors for loss of reduction. Percutaneous fixation of the fracture with K-wires is recommended. This study aims to evaluate the outcome of percutaneous fixation of both bones performed as the primary treatment. Materials and Methods A randomized, open, prospective, clinical trial was conducted, including skeletally immature patients who underwent surgery for fractures of the distal radius and ulna. They were randomized into two groups, one with fixation only of the radius fracture and the other with fixation of both the radius and the ulna fractures, and they were followed clinically and radiologically for up to 12 weeks postoperatively. Results Sixteen children were selected. In the intraoperative period, fluoroscopy was activated for a longer time when fixing the ulna (p = 0.011) and the surgical time was longer in this group (p = 0.014). In the postoperative evaluations, the group whose surgery involved the fixation of both bones had a lower postoperative pain score (p <0.001) and less time away from school (p <0.001). Conclusions In this study, postoperative pain and absence from school were both less when fixation of the radius and ulna was performed. Evidence Level II; Randomized Controlled Study.

Objetivo: Avaliar violência interpessoal não sexual contra crianças e adolescentes em um hospital universitário terciário. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 240 pacientes em situação de violência não sexual por 15 anos. A análise incluiu: dados demográficos, local de referência do hospital, tipo e autor da violência, encaminhamento legal, exames laboratoriais e de imagem, e desfechos graves. Resultados: Situações de violência não sexual foram diagnosticadas em 240 de 295.993 (0,1%) pacientes durante os 15 anos do período: 148/240 (61,7%) em crianças e 92/240 (38,3%) em adolescentes. Os tipos de violências mais frequentes foram negligência em 156/240 (65,0%), violência física 62/240 (25,8%), agressão psicológica/emocional 52/240 (21,7%), síndrome de Münchausen por procuração 4/240 (1,7%) e bullying/cyberbullying em 3/240 (1,3%). As condições crônicas pediátricas mais frequentes foram: doença renal crônica 24/123 (19,5%), vírus da imunodeficiência humana 14/123 (11,4%), prematuridade 9/123 (7,3%), paralisia cerebral 8/123 (6,5%) e asma 8/123 (6,5%). Comparações entre crianças e adolescentes em situação de violência não sexual revelaram que houve diferença significativa entre os locais de referência do hospital. A frequência de pacientes sob violência encaminhados de ambulatórios foi significantemente reduzida em crianças versus adolescentes (27,7 vs. 62%), enquanto encaminhamentos de pronto-socorro foram mais numerosos no primeiro grupo (57,4 vs. 25%, p<0,001). Os tipos de violências e condições pediátricas crônicas foram semelhantes nos dois grupos(p>0,05). Conclusões: Violência não sexual na nossa população pediátrica foi raramente diagnosticada em um hospital terciário, principalmente negligência, agressão física e psicológica/emocional. Aproximadamente dois terços dos diagnósticos de violência ocorreram em crianças, preferencialmente encaminhadas pelo departamento de emergência. Em contrapartida, cerca de um terço dos diagnósticos de violência ocorreu em adolescentes, encaminhados principalmente pelos ambulatórios.

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to assess interpersonal nonsexual violence against children and adolescents in a tertiary university hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in 240 patients under nonsexual violence situation for 15 consecutive years. Data analyses included demographic data, hospital referral site, type and author of nonsexual violence, legal referral, laboratorial and imaging examinations, and outcomes. Results: Nonsexual violence situation was diagnosed in 240 (0.1%) of 295,993 patients for 15 years: 148 (61.7%) in children and 92 (38.3%) in adolescents. Out of 240, the most frequent types of violence were negligence in 156 (65.0%), physical 62 (25.8%), psychological/emotional aggression 52 (21.7%), Munchausen by proxy syndrome 4 (1.7%), and bullying/cyberbullying in 3 (1.3%). Out of 123, the most common pediatric chronic conditions were chronic kidney disease 24 (19.5%), human immunodeficiency virus 14 (11.4%), prematurity 9 (7.3%), cerebral palsy 8 (6.5%), and asthma 8 (6.5%). Further comparison between children versus adolescent under nonsexual violence situation revealed significant difference between the hospital referral sites. The frequency of patients under violence referred from outpatient clinics was significantly reduced in children versus adolescents (27.7 vs. 62%), whereas emergency department was higher in the former group (57.4 vs. 25.0%; p<0.001). All types of violence situations and pediatric chronic conditions were similar in both groups (p>0.05). Conclusions: Nonsexual violence against our pediatric population was rarely diagnosed in a tertiary hospital, mainly negligence, physical, and psychological/emotional aggression. Approximately two-thirds of violence diagnosis occurred in children, referred mainly by the emergency department. In contrast, approximately one-third of violence diagnosis occurred in adolescents, referred mostly by outpatient clinics.

ABSTRACT This study compared the social and feeding behaviour of immunocastrated female pigs using different immunocastration protocols. We used seventy-two gilts from industrial crossbreeding (Agroceres × Topigs) at 15 weeks of age. The pigs were distributed in a randomised design with three treatments. The second dose of the immunocastration vaccine was applied in two groups, six weeks before slaughter (I6) and four weeks before slaughter (I4). A non-immunised group (NI) was used for comparison. Due to the divergence in the time of immunisation between the two groups, an individual comparison of each immunocastrated group with the control group (NI vs. I6 and NI vs. I4) was performed. Social behaviour was analysed through the collection of images by a monitoring camera, and the analysis period was from 6:00 to 18:00 h, with behaviour observed every ten minutes. Feeding behaviour data were collected by the automated FIRE® system. Anti-GnRH immunisation and the different protocols of application did not influence most social and feeding behaviours.

Resumo Este artigo busca analisar diferenças nas condições de vida e saúde das professoras principais provedoras do domicílio em comparação às coprovedoras, durante a pandemia de Covid-19. Trata-se de estudo transversal realizado em 2020, por meio de formulário on-line enviado aos professores da rede estadual de Minas Gerais. A variável dependente foi ser ou não a principal provedora da família (principal provedora vs. coprovedora) e as independentes foram agrupadas em sociodemográficas, ocupacionais, situação de saúde e comportamentos. Analisaram-se dados somente das mulheres e estimou-se a regressão logística. Entre as 12.817 professoras participantes, 47,2% declararam-se principais provedoras. Dentre elas, observou-se predomínio de mulheres mais velhas, que viviam sem companheiro(a), com filhos(as) e, no geral, apresentavam características que retrataram pior condição socioeconômica, maior acúmulo de trabalho e comportamentos menos saudáveis. Os resultados permitiram identificar desvantagens nas condições de vida e saúde das professoras principais provedoras financeiras de suas famílias em comparação às coprovedoras.

Abstract The objective was to analyze differences in living and health conditions of teachers who are the main providers for their household compared to co-providers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cross-sectional study was carried out in 2020, through an online form sent to teachers of public schools in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The dependent variable was whether or not they were their family’s main provider (main provider vs. co-provider) and independent variables were grouped into sociodemographic, occupational, health status and behaviors. Only women’s data were analyzed and logistic regression was estimated. Among the 12,817 participating female schoolteachers, 47.2% declared to be the main providers. In this subgroup, there was a predominance of older women, who lived without a partner, with children and, in general, these teachers presented worse socioeconomic conditions, greater accumulation of work and less healthy behaviors. The results of the present study allow to identify disadvantages in living and health conditions of female schoolteachers who are the main financial providers of their families compared to co-providers.

Resumen El objetivo fue analizar las diferencias en las condiciones de vida y salud entre las profesoras que son las principales proveedoras del hogar y las coproveedoras, durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Estudio transversal realizado en 2020, a través de un formulario en línea enviado a profesoras de escuelas públicas del estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. La variable dependiente fue ser o no la proveedora principal de la familia (proveedora principal versus coproveedora) y las variables independientes se agruparon en sociodemográficas, ocupacionales, sanitarias y conductuales. Solo se analizaron los datos de las mujeres y se estimó una regresión logística. Entre las 12.817 maestras participantes, el 47,2 % se declaró proveedora principal. En este subgrupo predominaron las mujeres mayores, que vivían sin pareja, con hijos y, en general, estas profesoras tenían características que retrataban una peor condición socioeconómica, mayor acumulación de trabajo y conductas menos saludables. Los resultados del presente estudio permiten identificar desventajas en las condiciones de vida y salud de las profesoras de escuela que son las principales proveedoras económicas de sus familias en comparación con las coproveedoras.

Abstract Curcumin, contained at Turmeric (Curcumalonga), can exert many beneficial pleiotropic activities in the gastrointestinal tract. This study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of C. longa on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced oral mucositis (OM) in hamsters. Phytochemical analysis of crude C. longa extract (CLE) was performed to detect the presence of curcumin by TLC and HPLC. Golden Syrian hamsters were orally pre-treated with CLE (5, 50, or 100mg/kg). Cheek pouch samples were subjected to macroscopic and histopathological evaluation. ELISA was performed to quantify the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were assessed by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy analysis. Behavior analysis was conducted by the open field test. Curcumin content in the CLE was 0.55%m/m ± 0.0161 (2.84%). The group treated with 5mg/kg CLE showed healing evidence with macroscopic absence of ulceration (p<0.05) and microscopic aspect of re-epithelialization, discrete inflammatory infiltrate and absence of edema. Treatment with 5mg/kg CLE significantly increased GSH levels, and reduced MDA levels and SOD activity (p˂0.05), and decreased IL-1β (p˂0.05) and TNF-α (p˂0.01) levels. A significant reduction in walking distance, ambulation, speed, and rearing was observed for motor activity. Curcumin reduced oxidative stress, inflammation, and motor activity in hamsters with 5-FU-induced OM.

RESUMO Objetivo: conhecer as doenças e sintomas ocupacionais prevalentes dos trabalhadores de um polo gesseiro. Método: trata-se de uma pesquisa de corte transversal, realizada com 67 trabalhadores de uma indústria de gesso na cidade de Grajaú, Maranhão, Brasil. Para coleta de dados, foi utilizado um questionário semiestruturado com perguntas abertas e fechadas. Os dados foram analisados por meio dos procedimentos usuais da estatística descritiva. Resultados: a amostra foi constituída por 67 trabalhadores, sendo 63 do sexo masculino (94%). Os trabalhadores que apresentaram doença relacionada ao trabalho corresponderam a seis (9%) da amostra. Os sintomas que prevaleceram foram: irritação nos olhos; irritação na pele; dores nas articulações; irritação na mucosa nasal; e problemas respiratórios. Conclusão: esses resultados apontam indicadores que podem ser utilizados como parâmetro para subsidiar a tomada de decisão quanto a políticas públicas direcionadas à saúde dos trabalhadores no contexto da mineração do gesso.

ABSTRACT Objective: to know the prevalent occupational diseases and symptoms in workers from a plaster production complex. Method: this is a cross-sectional study conducted with 67 workers of a plaster factory from the city of Grajaú, Maranhão, Brazil. A semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions was used for data collection. The data were analyzed by means of the descriptive statistics usual procedures. Results: the sample consisted of 67 workers, of which 63 were male (94%). Six (9%) workers from the sample presented work-related diseases. The predominant symptoms were the following: irritation in the eyes; irritation on the skin; pain in the joints; irritation in the nasal mucosa; and respiratory problems. Conclusion: these results point to indicators that can be used as a parameter to support decision-making regarding public policies aimed at workers’ health in the context of gypsum mining.

RESUMEN Objetivo: conocer las enfermedades y los síntomas ocupacionales prevalentes de los trabajadores de un complejo de producción de yeso. Método: investigación de corte transversal realizada con 67 trabajadores de una fábrica de yeso de la ciudad de Grajaú, Maranhão, Brasil. Para recolectar los datos se utilizó un cuestionario semiestructurado con preguntas abiertas y cerradas. Los datos se analizaron por medio de los procedimientos habituales de la estadística descriptiva. Resultados: la muestra estuvo compuesta por 67 trabajadores, de los cuales 63 eran del sexo masculino (94%). Seis (9%) de los trabajadores de la muestra presentaron enfermedades relacionadas con el trabajo. Los síntomas que prevalecieron fueron los siguientes: irritación en los ojos, irritación en la piel, dolores en las articulaciones, irritación en la mucosa nasal y problemas respiratorios. Conclusión: estos resultados apuntan a indicadores que pueden utilizarse como parámetro para sustentar el proceso de toma de decisiones sobre políticas públicas dirigidas a la salud laboral en el contexto de la minería de yeso.

Resumo O tipo e uso cobertura do solo desempenham papel decisivo para a temperatura da superfície continental (LST). Como as cidades são compostas por coberturas variadas, incluindo vegetação, áreas construídas, prédios, estradas e áreas desprovidas de vegetação, compreender os padrões da LST no complexo espaço urbano se faz cada vez mais importante. O presente estudo investigou a relação da LST com o albedo, NDVI, NDWI, NDBI e NDBaI no período de 1994 e 2017. Foram utilizadas imagens dos sensores Thematic Mapper (TM) e Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) a bordo dos satélites Landsat 5 e 8, respectivamente. As imagens foram processadas, reamostradas (resolução espacial de 120 m) no ambiente do software QGIS 3.0 e, por fim, foram extraídos centroides com um total de 1252 pontos. O modelo de regressão clássica (RC) foi aplicado às variáveis seguidas por modelos espaciais autoregressivos e de erro espacial (MEAR e MEE) e os resultados foram comparados a partir de índices de acurácia. Os resultados mostram que o maior coeficiente de correlação existe foi verificado entre albedo e NDBaI (r = 0,88). A relação entre o albedo e a LST, com r = 0,7, também é positiva e significativa ao nível de (р < 0,05). A partir do índice I de Moran Global verificou-se a dependência espacial e não estacionariedade da LST (I = 0,44). O modelo MEE apresentou as melhores métricas de acurácia (AIC = 3307,15 e R2 = 0,65) explicando consideravelmente mais variações na relação dos fatores explicativos e da LST para a região metropolitana de Belém, quando comparados aos modelos convencionais de RC.

Abstract The type of land use and land cover plays a decisive role in land surface temperature (LST). As cities are composed of varied covers, including vegetation, built-up areas, buildings, roads and areas without vegetation, understanding LST patterns in complex urban spaces is becoming increasingly important. The present study investigated the relationship between LST and albedo, NDVI, NDWI, NDBI and NDBaI in the period between 1994 and 2017. Images from Thematic Mapper (TM) and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) onboard the Landsat 5 and 8 satellites, respectively, were used in the study. The images were processed, resampled (spatial resolution of 120 m) in the environment of the QGIS 3.0 software and, finally, centroids were extracted resulting in a total of 1252 points. A classical regression (CR) model was applied to the variables, followed by spatial autoregressive (SARM) and spatial error (SEM) models, and the results were compared using accuracy indices. The results showed that the highest correlation coefficient was found between albedo and NDBaI (r = 0.88). The relationship between albedo and LST (r = 0.7) was also positive and significant at р < 0.05. The global Moran's I index showed spatial dependence and non-stationarity of the LST (I = 0.44). The SEM presented the best accuracy metrics (AIC = 3307.15 and R2 = 0.65) for the metropolitan region of Belém, explaining considerably more variations in the relationship between explanatory factors and LST when compared to conventional CR models.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Obstetric violence is a specific type of gender violence, perpetrated against women in labor, delivery and postpartum in health institutions. Objective: To understand the experience of postpartum women concerning obstetric violence in a public maternity hospital. Methods: Phenomenological research carried out with seventeen parturients in 2017, through interviews guided by a semistructured questionnaire. Their discourses were organized and analyzed based on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of perception. Results: Three categories were identified: desire for vaginal delivery versus professional decision-making, dehumanization of professional attitudes and awareness of best achievements, partner presence and enduring companion. Ambiguities were identified in the perceptions experienced by women, with feelings from insecurity to satisfaction concerning the service received from health professionals. Conclusions: There are perceptual meanings regarding obstetric violence in the reports of women in labor. There is a need for changes in professional practices to qualify obstetric care in a humane way.

RESUMEN Introducción: La violencia obstétrica caracteriza un tipo específico de violencia de género, perpetrada contra mujeres en trabajo de parto, parto y posparto en instituciones de salud. Objetivo: Entender la experiencia de las mujeres posparto sobre violencia obstétrica en un hospital público de maternidad. Métodos: Investigación fenomenológica realizada con 17 parturientas en 2017, a través de entrevistas guiadas por un cuestionario semiestructurado. Los discursos fueron analizados y organizados a partir de la Fenomenología de la percepción de Merleau-Ponty. Resultados: Se identificaron tres categorías: El deseo de parto normal y la barrera de resolución profesional; La deshumanización de las actitudes profesionales y la conciencia del mejor logro; El compañero presente y el acompañamiento resistente. Se identificaron ambigüedades en las percepciones experimentadas por las mujeres, con sentimientos de inseguridad a satisfacción con el servicio recibido de los profesionales de la salud. Conclusiones: Hay significados perceptivos de violencia obstétrica en los informes de parturientas, y existe la necesidad de cambios en las prácticas profesionales para calificar la atención obstétrica de una manera humana.
