RESUMO Objetivo: fornecer evidências psicométricas da versão do Teste de Linguagem Narrativa, examinando: a) equivalência e análise da consistência interna; b) diferenciação do desempenho por idade; c) validade de convergência; e, d) análise da dimensionalidade. Métodos: a versão adaptada do teste foi aplicada em 68 crianças, com idades entre cinco anos e seis anos e onze meses, em desenvolvimento típico, de escolas particulares e pública. Foi realizada análise dos dados para confiabilidade e validade do instrumento. Resultados: nos três itens de compreensão narrativa, melhores escores foram obtidos mediante história contada ilustrada em sequência lógica com cinco figuras, depois com cena única e, finalmente, sem qualquer figura. Nas três tarefas de produção narrativa, o melhor desempenho foi, primeiramente, na história contada sobre a cena única, depois com sequência lógica com cinco figuras e, por fim, sem figura. Os escores de todas as crianças da escola privada e das de seis anos, de escolas privadas e pública, não apresentaram diferença significante. O modelo de estrutura unifatorial explicou melhor a dimensionalidade do instrumento. Conclusão: evidências de confiabilidade e validade demonstraram sua indicação e o potencial dos resultados deve ser considerado para futura construção de medida padronizada para avaliação da narrativa oral.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to furnish psychometric evidence of the Test of Narrative Language version, examining a) the equivalence and analysis of internal consistency; b) performance differentiation per age; c) convergent validity; and d) dimensionality analysis. Methods: the adapted test version was applied to 68 children with typical development, aged 5 to 6 years and 11 months, from private and public schools. The data were analyzed for the reliability and validity of the instrument. Results: in the three narrative comprehension items, the highest scores were obtained when the story was told with five pictures in a logical sequence, followed by the one with a single picture, and lastly, the one with no pictures. In the three narrative production tasks, the best performance was in the story told along with a single picture, followed by the five pictures in a logical sequence, and lastly, the one with no pictures. There was no significant difference in the scores of all private-school children and in those of the 6-year-old public- and private-school children. The single-factor structure better explained the instrument dimensionality. Conclusion: the reliability and validity evidence demonstrated its indication, and the potential of the results must be taken into account for future standardized construction to assess oral narrative.

Using bioinformatics tools, epitopes of external membrane proteins were selected and a multiepitopic protein was designed. The multiepitopic protein gene was subcloned into the expression plasmid pET28b and transformed into E. coli BL21 pLys. The multiepitopic protein was expressed using isopropyl-β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside and purified using resin. This purified protein was used to immunize BALB/c mice obtaining polyclonal antibodies. In vitro invasion assays were conducted using a strain of Bartonella bacilliformis (B. bacilliformis) in human red blood cells. Results. The multiepitopic protein M1 presents preserved epitopes between isolates of B. bacilliformis with are non-toxic, and not homologous to human and surface proteins. Immunized mice presented IgG antibody levels capable of reducing in vitro the rate of invasion of B. bacilliformis into human red blood cells. Conclusions. Multiepitopic protein M1 may serve as a candidate for a Carrion disease vaccine; however, more studies are needed to characterize the use of this antigen as a vaccine.

RESUMO: Este artigo teve como objetivo investigar os resultados produzidos por uma oficina de linguagem, com foco no estímulo das habilidades fonológicas, e a compreensão do sistema alfabético, com um grupo composto por cinco crianças e adolescentes com síndrome de Down, com idades entre 9 e 12 anos e 11 meses. O trabalho foi desenvolvido por equipe interdisciplinar, com duração de 90 minutos, uma vez por semana, por um ano, e realizado na brinquedoteca terapêutica de um hospital universitário da Região Sudeste do país. A metodologia foi a de estudos de casos coletivos, e a pesquisa contou com a aplicação de pré-teste, intervenção e pós-teste. Os instrumentos utilizados avaliaram a leitura de palavras isoladas; a consciência fonológica; a memória sequencial auditiva, a habilidade de repetição de palavras reais e de não palavras. Para a análise dos dados, foi utilizado o software Statistical Package for The Social Sciences - SPSS, versão 23.0, com o teste de t Student. Os resultados mostram significância estatística para as habilidades de consciência fonológica de rima, manipulação e transposição silábica, segmentação, síntese, manipulação e transposição fonêmica; memória de trabalho fonológica medida pela repetição de não palavras dissílabas e leituras de palavras isoladas trissílabas de alta frequência. Concluiu-se que a estimulação sistemática de habilidades cognitivo-linguísticas, especialmente as fonológicas, foi capaz de favorecer a aprendizagem da leitura e escrita de crianças e adolescentes com síndrome de Down.

ABSTRACT: This paper aimed to investigate the results produced by a language workshop focused on the stimulation of phonological skills and the understanding of the alphabetic system, with a group composed of five children and adolescents with Down syndrome, aged between 9 to 12 years and 11 months. The work was developed by an interdisciplinary team, with a 90-minute duration, once a week, during one year, and was carried out in the therapeutic playroom of a university hospital in the Southeast Region of the country. The methodology was that of collective case studies and the research was composed of a pre-test, intervention, and post-test application. The instruments used evaluated the reading of isolated words; phonological awareness; sequential auditory memory, the ability to repeat real words and non-words. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences - SPSS, version 23.0, was used for the data analysis with the Student t test. The results show statistical significance for phonological awareness skills of rhyme, syllabic manipulation and transposition, segmentation, synthesis, manipulation and phonemic transposition; phonological work memory measured by the repetition of non-dissyllable words, and readings of isolated high-frequency trisyllable words. It was concluded that the systematic stimulation of cognitive-linguistic abilities, especially the phonological ones, was able to favor the learning of the reading and writing of children and adolescents with Down syndrome.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo caracterizar as exigências nutricionais de mudas de ginseng brasileiro (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) em Argissolo Vermelho distrófico arênico pela técnica do nutriente faltante. Plantas de P. glomerata produzidas in vitro e aclimatizadas ex vitro foram usadas como material inicial para o experimento em casa de vegetação. Aos 10 dias após o transplante para o solo, através de soluções nutritivas, foram realizadas as adubações correspondentes a nove tratamentos: controle (sem adubação), adubação completa (com macro e micronutrientes) e as omissões individuais de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S e dos micronutrientes (Zn, B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Mo). Aos 60 dias de cultivo, avaliaram-se os parâmetros de crescimento das plantas. O número de folhas por planta foi o parâmetro de crescimento mais afetado pela ausência dos nutrientes N, K, S e P na adubação. O efeito da omissão dos nutrientes na adubação foi diferenciado quanto à partição de biomassa entre os órgãos da planta. A biomassa acumulada pela parte aérea obedeceu à seguinte ordem decrescente, em relação à omissão do nutriente: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> micronutrientes > Ca <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> adubação completa > P > S > K > N <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> controle. Já a biomassa radicular obedeceu à seguinte ordem decrescente: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> adubação completa <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> P <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> micronutrientes <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> S <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> Ca > N > K <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> controle. Plantas jovens de P. glomerata cultivadas em Argissolo Vermelho distrófico arênico apresentaram grande redução no crescimento pela ausência de N, K, S e P na adubação. As omissões de Mg e dos micronutrientes na adubação não foram limitantes para o crescimento das plantas jovens.

This study aimed to characterize the nutritional demands of the young plants of Brazilian ginseng (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) in a Paleudalf soil by means of the missing nutrient technique. Plantlets of P. glomerata produced in vitro and acclimatized ex vitro were used as start matter for the glasshouse experiment. Ten days after plant transfer to soil, fertilizations (by means of nutritive solutions) were done corresponding to nine treatments: control (without fertilization), complete fertilization (with macro and micronutrients), and with the omissions of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S and micronutrients (Zn, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Mo). At 60 days of cultivation, several growth parameters were evaluated. The number of leaves per plant was the growth parameter most affected by omission of N, K, S and P in the fertilization. The effect of nutrient omission in the fertilization on biomass partitioning between plant organs were differentiated. Accumulated shoot biomass obeied the following decreasing order, in relation with the nutrient omission: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> micronutrients > Ca <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> complete fertilization > P > S > K > N <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> control. While the root biomass obeied the following decreasing order: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> complete fertilization <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> P <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> micronutrients <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> S <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> Ca > N > K <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> control. Young plants of P. glomerata grow in a Paleudalf soil showed greater reduction in growth by omission of N, K, S and P in the fertilization. The omission of Mg and micronutrients in the fertilization were not limiting to the growth of young plants.

As Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais do Curso de Graduação em Medicina enumeram, entre os objetivos do currículo de graduação, aprender a aprender e ter competência e habilidade para avaliar, sistematizar e decidir as condutas mais adequadas com base em evidências científicas, bem como habilidades de escrita e leitura. Sob o viés particular do auxílio ao ensino e à aprendizagem, propomos que a metacognição seja entendida como uma tecnologia educacional simbólica. Para isto, fizemos uso da Fenomenologia de Schultz, em suas reflexões sobre o uso de símbolos, como o arcabouço lógico a unir os campos da tecnologia educacional e a metacognição. Este texto se organiza em quatro tópicos principais: o primeiro introduz o conceito de tecnologia educacional simbólica; o segundo, o conceito de metacognição; o terceiro procura unir os dois primeiros ao discutir o conceito e o papel dos símbolos na perspectiva fenomenológica; o quarto, mais operacional, exemplifica como a metacognição faz uso de símbolos e cifras para gerenciar o processo de aprendizagem, enquadrando-se, assim, no conceito de Tecnologia Educacional Simbólica.

The National Directives for Medicine Courses list among others learn how to learn and scientific competence as main objectives for graduation curricula. The purpose of this study is to propose metacognition as a Symbolic Educational Technology. This proposition is based upon Schultz's phenomenological perspective of symbols. The following text presents four main topics. The first introduces a broad definition for Symbolic Educational Technology. The second topic deals with metacognition concepts and its educational benefits. The third one presents Schultz's phenomenology and his concept of symbols. Finally the fourth topic shows how metacognition can enhance teaching and learning by using symbols and ciphers.

O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar o crescimento de ginseng brasileiro (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) cultivado in vitro sob dois níveis de nitrogênio e sacarose, durante seis subculturas sucessivas e aclimatização. Como fonte de explantes, utilizou-se segmentos nodais de plantas previamente estabelecidas in vitro. Foram testados dois tratamentos: 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose; e 50% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 45g L-1 sacarose. Durante as seis subculturas sucessivas, os explantes de plantas cultivadas por 30 dias em ambos os tratamentos foram transferidos, respectivamente, para a subcultura seguinte nos mesmos tratamentos. Ao final da 6ª subcultura, as plântulas foram transferidas para substrato Plantmax® Hortaliças e submetidas à aclimatização em sala de crescimento. Durante as subculturas, observou-se flutuações nas respostas de crescimento das plântulas às duas condições nutricionais testadas. A altura da maior brotação, a média da altura das brotações e o total de segmentos nodais por plântula, respectivamente em quatro, quatro e três subculturas, foram maiores em 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose do que em 50% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 45g L-1 sacarose. Por outro lado, as matérias secas de raízes, da parte aérea e do total das plântulas, respectivamente em duas, duas e três subculturas, foram maiores em 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose. Concluiu-se que o aumento da concentração de sacarose associado à redução da concentração do N estimula a produção de biomassa, enquanto o meio MS padrão estimula o crescimento em altura e número de segmentos nodais. As diferenças quanto à produção de biomassa observadas no cultivo in vitro não se refletiram no processo de aclimatização ex vitro, onde o meio MS padrão proporcionou maior crescimento em altura e número de folhas por planta.

The present research was aimed at evaluating the growth of brazilian ginseng (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) in vitro cultured plantlets under two levels of nitrogen and sucrose, during six successive subcultures and acclimatization. Two nutritional treatments were tested: nitrogen at 100% strength of the MS medium + 30g L-1 sucrose; and nitrogen at 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. During six successive subcultures, the explants of 30-day-old plantlets grown under both treatments were transferred, respectively to the next subculture on the same treatment conditions. At 6th subculture, plantlets were transferred to substrate Plantmax® Hortaliças and submitted to acclimatization in a growth chamber. Throughout the subcultures, fluctuations in growth response due to nutritional conditions tested were observed. The height of the higher sprout, the average height of sprouts, and the total number of nodal segments per plantlet, respectively for four, four and three subcultures were greater in 100% strength of the MS medium + 30g L-1 sucrose than in 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. On the other hand, dry matter of roots, of shoots and of the whole plant, respectively for two, two and three subcultures, were greater in 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. In conclusion, the increase of sucrose associated with reduction of N level in the culture medium enhanced the biomass production, while the MS at full strength enhanced the growth based in sprout length and number of nodal segments. These differences concerning the biomass production observed during in vitro culture did not persisted in the acclimatization process ex vitro, where MS at full strength give rise greater growth in sprout length and number of leaves per plant.

Foi estudada a prevalência de amamentação exclusiva numa coorte histórica de crianças nascidas entre janeiro de 2000 e dezembro de 2002, de famílias de baixo nível sócio-econômico, residentes na área de abrangência de um Posto de Saúde de Atenção Primária, na periferia da cidade de Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Para a análise foi construída uma tábua de vida, cujo desfecho era a interrupção da amamentação exclusiva, mês a mês, após o nascimento. Entre as 112 crianças estudadas, a prevalência de amamentação exclusiva no primeiro mês de vida foi de 95,0%, caindo progressivamente para 81,0%, 64,0%, 53,0%, 39,0% e 35,0%, respectivamente, do segundo ao sexto mês. A mediana de duração da amamentação exclusiva foi de quatro meses; a mediana de duração da amamentação exclusiva e a prevalência de aleitamento exclusivo no sexto mês, superiores às taxas nacionais, indicam adequação do Programa de Puericultura na promoção da amamentação. No entanto, mais esforços devem ser despendidos para aumentar a prevalência da amamentação exclusiva até o sexto mês de vida.

A historical cohort of children born between January 2000 and December 2002 from low-income families attending a primary health care facility on the periphery of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was studied in relation to prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding. Analysis was based on a life table focusing on interruption of exclusive breastfeeding (month-by-month after birth) as the target outcome. Among the 112 children followed up from birth by the Well Baby Program, prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in the first month of life was 95.0%, declining progressively to 81.0%, 64.0%, 53.0%, 39.0%, and 35.0%, respectively, from the second to the sixth month after birth. Median duration of exclusive breastfeeding was four months. Median duration of exclusive breastfeeding and prevalence among six-month-old infants were both higher than the Brazilian national rates and indicate the Program's adequacy in promoting breastfeeding. However, more effort should be made to increase the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding until the sixth month of life.
