ABSTRACT This paper explores the co-evolution of international business studies and institutions, employing a scientometric approach and bibliometric review on the application of institutional concepts in international business studies, outlining a research agenda. We compiled a database of 3,520 articles and conducted a scientometric analysis to examine the evolution of the term “institutions” in international business in ABS-ranked journals. Our findings show that (1) over the past two decades, there has been a shift in the use of the term institutions from a political and economic connotation to a sociological perspective to explain how firms adopt strategies, make decisions, and address intra-national problems during the internationalization process; (2) traditional approaches were found to be insufficient in explaining context-dependent events that affect international business; and (3) China has emerged as a critical player in international business studies, which has helped to redirect the focus of institutions from political and economic aspects to the sociological context. Finally, we propose an agenda for future research, highlighting potential pitfalls and remedies.

RESUMEN Este artículo tiene como objetivo explorar la coevolución de los estudios de negocios internacionales y las instituciones, empleando un enfoque cienciométrico y una revisión bibliométrica sobre la aplicación de conceptos institucionales en los estudios de negocios internacionales, delineando una agenda de investigación. Recopilamos una base de datos de 3.520 artículos y realizamos un análisis cienciométrico para examinar la evolución del término "instituciones" en las revistas clasificadas en el ranking ABS en relación con los negocios internacionales. Nuestros hallazgos muestran que: (1) en las últimas dos décadas, ha habido un cambio en el uso del término instituciones de una connotación política y económica a una perspectiva sociológica, que busca explicar cómo las empresas adoptan estrategias, toman decisiones y abordan los problemas intranacionales durante el proceso de internacionalización; (2) se encontró que los enfoques tradicionales eran insuficientes para explicar los eventos dependientes del contexto que afectan los negocios internacionales; y (3) China ha emergido como un actor clave en los estudios de negocios internacionales, lo que ha ayudado a redirigir el enfoque de las instituciones desde los aspectos políticos y económicos al contexto sociológico. Finalmente, proponemos una agenda para futuras investigaciones, destacando posibles dificultades y soluciones.

RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo explorar a coevolução dos estudos sobre negócios internacionais e instituições, utilizando uma abordagem cientométrica e conduzindo uma revisão bibliométrica da aplicação de conceitos institucionais em estudos de negócios internacionais, de forma a delinear uma agenda de pesquisa. Compilamos um banco de dados de 3.520 artigos e realizamos uma análise cientométrica para examinar a evolução do termo “institutions” (instituições) no contexto dos negócios internacionais em periódicos classificados no ranking ABS. Nossos resultados mostram que: (1) nas últimas duas décadas, houve uma mudança no uso do termo institutions de uma conotação política e econômica para uma perspectiva sociológica, que busca explicar como as empresas adotam estratégias, tomam decisões e abordam problemas intranacionais durante o processo de internacionalização; (2) as abordagens tradicionais foram consideradas insuficientes para explicar eventos dependentes do contexto que afetam os negócios internacionais; e (3) a China emergiu como um ator-chave nos estudos de negócios internacionais, o que ajudou a redirecionar o foco das instituições dos aspectos políticos e econômicos para o contexto sociológico. Por fim, propomos uma agenda de pesquisa para futuros estudos, destacando possíveis armadilhas e soluções.

ABSTRACT Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora) is the second most produced and commercialized ornamental plant in the world. Measuring leaf area through non-destructive methods is fundamental for studies on its growth and production. The estimation of leaf area by linear dimensions of the leaves can be a strategy for this purpose. The objective of this study was to find allometric equations to estimate the leaf area of chrysanthemum. The linear, linear without intercept, quadratic, cubic, power, and exponential regression models were used for the analysis. The choice of equations was based on the highest coefficients of determination. The non-destructive method using allometric models has accuracy for estimating the leaf area (LA) of chrysanthemum from the product between leaf length (L) and leaf width (W). The LA of chrysanthemum can be estimated using the equation ŷ = 0.6611*LW0.9490 (L - leaf length; W - leaf width). This equation will allow researchers and producers to determine leaf area non-destructively.

RESUMO O crisântemo (Dendranthema grandiflora) é a segunda planta ornamental mais produzida e comercializada no mundo. A medição da área foliar por métodos não destrutivos é fundamental para estudos sobre seu crescimento e produção. A estimativa da área foliar por dimensões lineares das folhas pode ser uma estratégia para este fim. O objetivo deste estudo foi encontrar equações alométricas para estimar a área foliar do crisântemo. Os modelos de regressão linear, linear sem intercepto, quadrático, cúbico, potência e exponencial foram utilizados para a análise. A escolha das equações foi baseada nos maiores coeficientes de determinação. O método não destrutivo por meio de modelos alométricos tem acurácia para estimar a área foliar (AF) do crisântemo a partir do produto entre o comprimento da folha (C) e a largura da folha (L). A AF do crisântemo pode ser estimada pela equação ŷ = 0,6611*CL0,9490 (C - comprimento da folha; L - largura da folha). Essa equação permitirá que pesquisadores e produtores determinem a área foliar de forma não destrutiva.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of irrigation systems and water depths on physiological, biochemical and production processes of pear trees grown in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with 2 × 4 factorial scheme, corresponding to two irrigation systems (drip and microsprinkler) and four irrigation depths (60, 80, 100 and 120% of the crop evapotranspiration - ETc), with four replicates. Water deficit and excess applied to plants are harmful to gas exchange as well as to biosynthesis and accumulation of carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins in leaves, compromising the cultivation cycle of pear plants grown in the Sub-Middle São Francisco region. The irrigation depth of 91.8% ETc promotes the highest production of pear (18.49 kg plant-1) under drip and microsprinkler irrigation systems, under the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Sub-Middle São Francisco region.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de sistemas de irrigação e lâminas de irrigação sobre processos fisiológicos, bioquímicos e produtivos da pereira cultivada no Semiárido brasileiro. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com fatorial 2 x 4, sendo dois sistemas de irrigação (gotejamento e microaspersão) e quatro lâminas de irrigação (60; 80; 100 e 120% da evapotranspiração da cultura - ETc), com quatro repetições. A deficiência e o excesso hídrico aplicados às plantas são prejudiciais às trocas gasosas, bem como à biossíntese e acúmulo de carboidratos, aminoácidos e proteínas nas folhas, comprometendo o ciclo de cultivo de pereiras cultivadas na região do Submédio São Francisco. A lâmina de irrigação de 91,8% ETc promove a maior produção de pereira (18,49 kg planta-1) sob sistemas de irrigação por gotejamento e microaspersão, nas condições edafoclimáticas do Submédio São Francisco.

ABSTRACT: Bacillus cereus is a Gram-positive bacterium commonly reported in soils and plants that occupy various ecological habitats, and the main source of contamination for cattle is silage. This report described a case of fetal loss associated with B. cereus infection in a cow. An 8-month-old, Nelore female bovine fetus from a beef farm was submitted for necropsy. A gross examination revealed fibrinous pleuropneumonia and fibrin exudation on the liver surface. The morphological diagnosis was restricted to the lungs and liver. In the lungs there was fibrinosuppurative pleuropneumonia associated with numerous aggregates of rod-shaped bacteria. In the liver there was moderate focally extensive fibrinous peri hepatitis.The lungs, liver, thoracic, and abomasal fluid cultures yielded pure cultures of B. cereus, indicating that these bacteria should be recognized as a cause of bovine abortion in fetuses that macroscopically present fibrin in the abdominal and thoracic cavity.

RESUMO: Bacillus cereus é uma bactéria Gram-positiva, comumente encontrada em solos e plantas que ocupam diversos habitats ecológicos sendo a silagem a principal fonte de contaminação para bovinos. Este relato descreve um caso de perda fetal associada à infecção por B. cereus em uma vaca. Um feto bovino fêmea da raça Nelore, de oito meses de idade, procedente de uma fazenda de corte, foi submetido à necropsia. Ao exame macroscópico observou-se pleuropneumonia fibrinosa e exsudação de fibrina na superfície do fígado. Histologicamente, as lesões estavam restritas aos pulmões e fígado. Nos pulmões havia pleuropneumonia fibrinosupurativa associado a numerosos agregados de bactérias em forma de bastonete. No fígado haviaperi hepatitefibrinosa focalmente extensa moderada. As culturas de pulmão, fígado, líquido torácico e abomasal produziram cultura pura de B. cereus indicando que esta bactéria deve ser reconhecida como causa de aborto bovino em fetos que apresentem macroscopicamente fibrina nas cavidades abdominal e torácica.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to assess the effect of progressive neutralization on the antimicrobial properties against bacteria and yeasts of wood vinegar obtained from the pyrolysis of Eucalyptus urograndis (clone I144) wood. Wood samples were carbonized at a heating rate of 0.9 °C min-1 until a final temperature of 450 °C, totalizing 8 hours of carbonization. The raw pyrolysis liquids were left to settle, and the aqueous fraction was separated. Then, the aqueous fraction (raw wood vinegar - WV) was purified to yield the WV. WV samples were collected and neutralized from pH 2.5 until 7.5 (2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5, by adding NaOH solution. Through the broth microdilution method, the antimicrobial effect of the neutralized samples at each pH was assessed on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Salmonella enteritidis (ATCC 13076), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Streptococcus agalactiae (CEPA CLINICA), and Candida albicans (ATCC 10231). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal (and fungicidal) concentrations were determined through in vitro technics. Results were subjected to logarithmic regression analysis, and statistical models were fitted for each microorganism in the assessed pH range; as pH increased, a progressive decrease in the CIM increased, demanding higher concentrations of WV to inhibit microbial growth. The more resistant strains were S. aureus and S. agalactiae, which required an increase in WV concentration from a minimum of 6.25% at pH 2.5 to reaching 50% at pH 6.0. When at pH 7.0, both strains were not inhibited even at 50% (the highest concentration evaluated in the study). In contrast, C. albicans proved to be the most sensitive strain, starting from 3.12% EP at pH 2.5 and requiring only 25% for inhibition at pH 7.0. The behavior of P. aeruginosa and S. enteritidis followed the pattern of C. albicans, differing only at pH 7.0, where they required 50% of EP. As observed, even at neutral and slightly alkaline pH, the inhibitory activity of EP on microbial growth was maintained to some extent. Nevertheless, even when neutral and slightly alkaline pH values are reached, the inhibitory activity remains at a certain level. Higher pH values of the WV were associated with lower antimicrobial activity. However, its activity remained even at neutral and slightly alkaline pH values.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da neutralização progressiva na atividade antimicrobiana do extrato pirolenhoso (EP) da madeira do híbrido Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis (clone I144). Amostras de madeira foram carbonizadas a uma taxa de aquecimento de 0.9 °C min-1 até a temperatura final de 450 °C, perfazendo 8 horas de carbonização. Os líquidos brutos da carbonização foram deixados em repouso e a fração aquosa foi separada. A fração aquosa correspondente ao EP bruto foi destilada obtendo o EP purificado. Alíquotas de EP purificado foram progressivamente neutralizadas do pH 2.5 até 7.5, respectivamente, 2,5, 3,0, 3,5, 4,0, 4,5, 5,0, 5,5, 6,0, 6,5, 7,0, e 7,5, por meio da adição de NaOH. Com o método da micro-diluição em caldo, o efeito antimicrobiano das amostras neutralizadas em cada pH foi avaliado contra Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Salmonella enteritidis (ATCC 13076), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Streptococcus agalactiae (CEPA CLINICA) e Candida albicans (ATCC 10231). As concentrações inibitórias mínimas e as concentrações bactericida e fungicida mínimas foram determinadas por técnicas in vitro. Os resultados foram analisados por regressão logarítmica e modelos estatísticos foram ajustados para cada microrganismo em cada pH. Na determinação da CIM, foi detectada uma perda progressiva da atividade antimicrobiana do EP com a neutralização, exigindo, conforme o pH caminhava para 7.0, concentrações mais elevadas de EP para resultar em inibição. As cepas que demonstraram maior resistência foram S. aureus e S. agalactiae. Esses microrganismos partiram da exigência de concentrações de 6.25% de EP, em pH inicial (2.5), e chegaram a requerer 50% em pH 6.0. Quando em pH 7.0, ambas as cepas não foram inibidas nem a 50% (maior concentração avaliada no estudo). Em contrapartida, C. albicans se mostrou a cepa mais sensível, partindo de 3.12% de EP, em pH de 2.5, e exigindo apenas 25% para inibição em pH 7.0. O comportamento de P. aeruginosa e S. enteritidis acompanhou o padrão da C. albicans, diferenciando-se apenas em pH 7.0, onde exigiram 50% de EP. Como observado, mesmo em pH neutro e ligeiramente alcalino, a atividade inibitória do EP ao crescimento microbiano se manteve em certa extensão.

Abstract Objective To evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients infected with HIV, and to compare with a paired sample without HIV infection. Methods This is a substudy of a Brazilian multicentric cohort that comprised two periods (2020 and 2021). Data was obtained through the retrospective review of medical records. Primary outcomes were admission to the intensive care unit, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death. Patients with HIV and controls were matched for age, sex, number of comorbidities, and hospital of origin using the technique of propensity score matching (up to 4:1). They were compared using the Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon for numerical variables. Results Throughout the study, 17,101 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 130 (0.76%) of those were infected with HIV. The median age was 54 (IQR: 43.0;64.0) years in 2020 and 53 (IQR: 46.0;63.5) years in 2021, with a predominance of females in both periods. People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and their controls showed similar prevalence for admission to the ICU and invasive mechanical ventilation requirement in the two periods, with no significant differences. In 2020, in-hospital mortality was higher in the PLHIV compared to the controls (27.9% vs. 17.7%; p = 0.049), but there was no difference in mortality between groups in 2021 (25.0% vs. 25.1%; p > 0.999). Conclusions Our results reiterate that PLHIV were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality in the early stages of the pandemic, however, this finding did not sustain in 2021, when the mortality rate is similar to the control group.

ABSTRACT Artibeus amplus Handley, 1987 is a little-known bat species endemic to northern South America. There are confirmed records of the species for Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname. In this study, we report the occurrence of A. amplus in Brazil based on the collection of two specimens captured in the municipalities of Cantá and Caracaraí in the state of Roraima. We also found a museum specimen from the state of Amazonas. The specimens were identified based on morphology and mitochondrial Cytochrome b gene analysis. After this contribution, the number of bat species in Brazil is 182. Surveys in other areas in the north of the country, such as the state of Pará, in addition to a comprehensive review of museum specimens, is needed to investigate the distribution of the species in areas where it has not been found yet.

Abstract The evaluation of new banana genotypes with agronomic potential and tolerant to the main pests and diseases is essential for the market. The objective was to evaluate the vegetative and productive characteristics of new potential banana clones, such as ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’ and ‘Prata Gorutuba R2’ and commercial cultivars. The experiment was implemented in a rural property located in the municipality of Nova Porteirinha, MG. The treatments consisted of ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’ and ‘Prata Gorutuba R2’ banana clones (genotypes selected from the ‘Prata Anã’ clone ‘Gorutuba’ tolerant to Panama disease) and four cultivars: ‘Prata Gorutuba’, ‘Prata Anã’, ‘Grande Naine’ and ‘BRS Princesa’. The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks, with four replications and six useful plants per plot. The planting spacing used was 3.5 m x 1.7 m. The evaluations were carried out in the first and second production cycles. The ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’ and’ Prata Gorutuba R2’ clones in general showed excellent performance compared to the already consolidated cultivars. The clones presented median height and number of leaves in the ideal flowering for banana trees of the ‘Prata’ subgroup. Bunch and bunch weight, as well as production were similar to the ‘Prata Anã’, ‘Prata Gorutuba’ and ‘BRS Princesa’ cultivars. Considering that the clones evaluated present high tolerance to Fusarium wilt, the result indicates that the materials have great potential for the registration of new cultivars.

Resumo Avaliação de novos genótipos de bananeira com potencial agronômico e tolerantes às principais pragas e doenças é essencial para o mercado. Objetivou-se avaliar as características vegetativas e produtivas dos novos potenciais clones-elites de bananeira ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’ e ‘Prata Gorutuba R2’ e de cultivares comerciais. O experimento foi implantado em propriedade no município de Nova Porteirinha-MG. Os tratamentos consistiram nos clones-elites de bananeira ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’ e ‘Prata Gorutuba R2’ (tolerantes à murcha de Fusarium) e das cultivares: ‘PrataGorutuba’, ‘Prata-Anã’, ‘Grande Naine’ e ‘BRS Princesa’. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos emblocos ao acaso,com quatro repetições e seis plantas úteis por parcela. As avaliações foramrealizadas no primeiro e segundo ciclos de produção. Os clones-elites ‘Prata Gorutuba R1’e ‘Prata Gorutuba R2’ apresentaram excelente desempenho, comparados às cultivares jáconsolidadas no mercado. Os clones-elites apresentaram altura de planta considerada mediana e número de folhas no florescimento ideal para bananeiras do subgrupo ‘Prata’. Peso decacho e de pencas, e produção foram semelhantes às cultivares ‘Prata-Anã’, ‘Prata Gorutuba’ e ‘BRS Princesa’. Considerando que os clones avaliados apresentam elevada tolerânciaà murcha de Fusarium, o resultado sugere que os materiais apresentam grande potencialpara o registro de novas cultivares.

Abstract: This article analyzes the descriptions of ants made by Spanish and Portuguese settlers in the New World in the 16th century. Memories, letters, treatises and chronicles written by the settlers and missionaries were used as documentary sources. From these reports, the fascination of the colonizers with the organization and diversity of ants, the emergence of overpopulation of these insects and the relationship of this phenomenon with European agricultural cultures are analyzed. The techniques and tactics used to combat such insects, their therapeutic use, and their relationship with the army ants are also analyzed. This group of insects was probably the one that most competed with Europeans for environmental dominance, and the investigating of relationship between the two allows us to deepen our understanding of the colonization process in America.

Resumen: Este artículo analiza las descripciones de hormigas hechas por los colonizadores españoles y portugueses en el Nuevo Mundo en el siglo XVI. Utiliza como fuentes documentales memorias, cartas, relatos de viajen, tratados y crónicas escritas por los colonizadores y misioneros. A partir de estos informes, se analiza la fascinación de los colonizadores con la organización y extensa diversidad de hormigas, la aparición de la superpoblación de estos insectos y, en especial, la relación de este fenómeno con los cultivos europeos. Son analizadas también las técnicas y tácticas utilizadas para combatirlas, el uso terapéutico de estos insectos y el trato con las hormigas guerreras. Este grupo de insectos fue probablemente el que más compitió con los europeos por el dominio ambiental, y la investigación de la relación entre los dos permite profundizar la comprensión del proceso de colonización en América. 1

RESUMEN Objetivo: Determinar el perfil epidemiológico de la población que acude a una campaña de salud integral en tiempo de COVID-19. Métodos: Estudio transversal con componentes analíticos. La población se compone de un total de 289 pacientes que cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Resultados: Del total de pacientes (289) el 64,7% eran de sexo femenino y estas refirieron haber tenido COVID-19 (8,3%). Se reportó que los casos de COVID-19 fueron entre las edades de 15 a 59 años (37%). La comorbilidad más frecuente fue la obesidad (26,6%), seguida por la Hipertensión arterial (11,8%) y la Diabetes Mellitus (3,8%). Los signos y síntomas más frecuentes en los casos de COVID-19 fueron disnea (4,5%), mialgia (4,2%), tos (3,1%) y rinorrea (3,1%). Solo el 19,7% de pacientes refirieron haber recibido la vacuna contra COVID-19 al momento del estudio. Las patologías más frecuentemente reportadas fueron la patología respiratoria (26,3%), del aparato locomotor (25,3%), endocrinológicas (12,1%) cardiovasculares (11,1%) e infecciosas (11,1%). Las variables asociadas fueron no comorbilidad (p = 0,014; IC 95 [0,208-0,853]; OR = 0,421), obesidad (p = 0,010; IC 95% [1,228-5,161] OR = 2,518) y disnea (p = 0,000; IC 95 [4,052-22,980]; OR = 9,649). Conclusiones: Se encontró predominancia de pacientes de sexo femenino. La obesidad fue la comorbilidad más frecuente. Las patologías más frecuentes fueron las respiratorias. La ausencia de comorbilidades muestra asociación protectora para COVID-19, mientras que la obesidad y la disnea aumentan dicha asociación.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the health profile of the population that attended an integrated health campaign in times of COVID-19. Methods: It was a Cross-sectional, observational, descriptive, and retrospective study. The population is made up of a total of 289 patients who met the selection criteria. The most frequently reported pathologies were: respiratory (26.3%), musculoskeletal (25.3%), endocrinological (12.1%), cardiovascular (11.1%), and infectious pathologies (11.1%). The associated variables were: no comorbidity (p = 0.014; CI 95 [0.208-0.853]; OR = 0.421), obesity (p = 0.010; CI 95% [1.228-5.161] OR = 2.518), and dyspnea (p = 0.000; CI 95 [4,052-22,980], OR = 9,649). Conclusions: A predominance of female patients was found. Obesity was the most frequent comorbidity. The most frequent pathologies were those of the respiratory system. The absence of comorbidities shows a protective association for COVID-19, while obesity and dyspnea increase this association.

RESUMO A análise da técnica desportiva entre diversos níveis de desempenho serve para estabelecer comparações metodológicas que contribuirão para a melhoria do desempenho motor especializado, nomeadamente dos desportos eminentemente técnico-tácticos. Neste sentido, o propósito da investigação é analisar as diferenças biomecânicas entre os atletas profissionais e os iniciantes de taekwondo no desempenho do pontapé Chigo-Chagüi com a perna dianteira. Foram estudados dois grupos independentes, Atletas Principiantes (DPRI) 15 principiantes e Atletas Profissionais (DPRO): 15 avançados ou profissionais), foram estudados indicadores de Velocidade, Ângulo de Flexibilidade e Centro de Gravidade e foi estabelecida uma comparação. Um ângulo inicial do DPRO=28,4° e DPRI: 27,34° (p=0,309) e um ângulo de impacto do DPRI= 117,93º e DPRO=129,2º (p=0,001) e um ângulo final do DPRI=31,34º e DPRO=26,34º (p=0,057), com um tempo de pontapé de execução do DPRO=1312ms e DPRI=1462 ms (p=0,009), um tempo máximo de pontapé de execução do DPRO=1312ms e DPRI=1462 ms (p=0 009), uma velocidade máxima de DPRO=6,86 m/s e DPRI=5,47 m/s (p=0,003) e uma aceleração média de DPRO=48,35 m/s2 e DPRI=36,55 m/s2 (p=0,029), sendo o centro de gravidade para o ponto de colisão no Eixo X sem diferenças significativas (p=0,506) e no Eixo y com diferenças significativas entre grupos independentes (p=0,029). As diferenças entre atletas avançados e iniciantes no pontapé de chigo-Chagüi com a perna dianteira são geralmente notáveis na maioria dos indicadores analisados, sendo o nível do atleta um indicador que permite descrever as deficiências técnicas.

ABSTRACT The analysis of sports technique between different performance levels serves to establish methodological comparisons that contribute to the improvement of specialized motor performance, including eminently technical-tactical sports. In this sense, the objective of the research is to analyze the biomechanical differences between professional and amateur taekwondo athletes in the performance of the Chigo-Chagüi kick with front leg. Two independent groups were studied, 15 Beginner Athletes (DPRI in Spanish) and15 Professional or advanced Athletes (DPRO in Spanish); indicators of Speed, Flexion Angle and Center of Gravity were studied and a comparison was established. An initial angle of DPRO=28.4° and DPRI: 27.34° (p=0.309) and an impact angle of DPRI= 117.93º and DPRO=129.2º (p=0.001) and a final angle of DPRI=31.34º and DPRO=26.34º (p=0.057) were determined, with a kick execution time of DPRO=1312ms and DPRI=1462 ms (p=0.009), a maximum velocity of DPRO=6.86 m/s and DPRI=5.47 m/s (p=0.003) and an average acceleration of DPRO=48.35 m/s2 and DPRI=36.55 m/s2 (p=0.029), being the center of gravity for the impact point in Axis X with no significant differences (p=0.506) and in Axis Y with significant differences between independent groups (p=0.029). The differences between advanced and beginner athletes in the chigo-chagüi kick with front leg are usually remarkable in most of the indicators analyzed, being the level of the athlete an indicator that allows describing the technical deficiencies.

RESUMEN El análisis de la técnica deportiva entre diferentes niveles de rendimiento sirve para establecer comparaciones metodológicas que tributan al perfeccionamiento del rendimiento motriz especializado, incluidos los deportes eminentemente técnico-tácticos. En tal sentido, el objetivo de la investigación es analizar las diferencias biomecánicas entre deportistas profesionales y amateurs de taekwondo en la realización de la patada Chigo-Chagüi con pierna delantera. Se estudiaron dos grupos independientes, Deportistas Principiantes (DPRI) 15 principiantes y Deportistas Profesionales (DPRO): 15 avanzados o profesionales), se estudiaron indicadores de Velocidad, Ángulo de Flexión y Centro de Gravedad y se estableció una comparación. Se determinó un ángulo inicial de DPRO =28,4° y DPRI: 27,34° (p=0.309) y un ángulo de impacto de DPRI= 117,93º y DPRO=129,2º (p=0.001) y un ángulo final de DPRI=31,34º y DPRO=26,34º (p=0.057), con un tiempo de ejecución de la patada de DPRO=1312ms y DPRI=1462 ms (p=0.009), una velocidad máxima de DPRO=6,86 m/s y DPRI=5,47 m/s (p=0.003) y una aceleración promedio de DPRO=48,35 m/s2 y DPRI=36,55 m/s2 (p=0.029), siendo el centro de gravedad para el punto de impacto en Eje X sin diferencias significativas (p=0.506) y en el Eje y con diferencias significativas entre grupos independientes (p=0.029). Las diferencias entre deportistas avanzados y principiantes en la patada chigo-chagüi con pierna delantera suelen ser notables en la mayoría de los indicadores analizados, siendo el nivel del atleta un indicador que permite describir las deficiencias técnicas.

RESUMO O crescimento desordenado das cidades e o excesso de impermeabilização são problemáticas dos grandes centros urbanos, tendo como consequência principal a ocorrência de inundações e alagamentos. Nesse contexto, a modelagem hidrodinâmica pode ser uma importante ferramenta para a determinação de áreas inundáveis, permitindo estimar as cotas de inundação para diferentes cenários de tempos de retorno (TR) e chuvas de projetos, permitindo, assim, representar mais fielmente a realidade e minimizar erros decorrentes de projetos hidráulicos. Trabalhando em conjunto com o Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG), em que a geometria do canal é extraída por meio do Modelo Digital do Terreno (MDT) de alta precisão gerado por levantamento com técnica LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) e software de modelagem hidrodinâmica (Hydrologic Engineering Center — River Analysis System — HEC-RAS), foi possível avaliar diferentes cenários de inundações no trecho canalizado em concreto, no córrego Botafogo, em Goiânia, Goiás. Com os resultados da modelagem hidrodinâmica foi possível avaliar o comportamento da propagação das vazões geradas, constatando-se que para precipitações com TR de 50 anos ou mais, os limites da canalização não suportam os volumes gerados e transportados, provocando inundações em seis trechos críticos. Os dados obtidos pelo HEC-RAS puderam ser validados a partir de registros fotográficos divulgados pela imprensa local e levantamento topográfico dos locais inundados, de modo que a integração entre o SIG e a modelagem hidrodinâmica se mostrou eficiente para o estudo de áreas inundáveis.

ABSTRACT The disordered growth of cities and the excessive waterproofing are problematic of the large urban centers, having as a main consequence the occurrence of floods and overflows. Within this context, hydrodynamic modeling can be an important tool for the determination of floodable areas, allowing the estimation of flood quotas for different scenarios of return periods (TR) and project rainfall, thus allowing to more accurately represent reality and minimize errors arising from hydraulic designs. Working with Geographic Information System (GIS), where the channel geometry is extracted using the high precision Digital Terrain Model (DTM) generated by LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) survey and hydrodynamic modeling software (HEC-RAS), it was possible to evaluate different flood scenarios in the channeled concrete section, in the Botafogo Stream in Goiânia, Goiás. With the results of hydrodynamic modeling, it was possible to evaluate the propagation behavior of the generated flows, finding that for precipitation with TR 50 years or older, the plumbing limits do not support the generated and transported volumes, causing flooding in six critical stretches. The data obtained by HEC-RAS could be validated from photographic records released by the press and topographic survey of flooded sites, so that the integration between GIS and hydrodynamic modeling proved to be efficient for the study of floodable areas.

RESUMO: A descoberta de novos aditivos naturais a partir de resíduos agroindustriais é considerada um importante tópico de pesquisa. Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar a viabilidade da extração assistida por ultrassom (EAU) de compostos antioxidantes do estigma do milho (EM) e o efeito de variáveis independentes (tempo e relação sólido-solvente) e sua interação na extração de EM. Os resultados indicaram que a EUA aumenta a atividade antioxidante e reduz o tempo de extração em 67%. Condições otimizadas para a extração simultânea de antioxidantes e polifenóis do EM foram obtidas com 5 min e uma relação sólido-solvente de 0,05 g mL-1. O extrato de EM obtido pela EUA foi caracterizado por ESI-ToF-MS e 27 fitoquímicos foram encontrados. O extrato apresentou atividades antifúngicas e antibacterianas promissoras contra 23 dos micro-organismos estudados. Portanto, o extrato de EM obtido pela extração assistida por ultrassom pode ser utilizado como fonte de compostos bioativos e antimicrobianos para uso como ingrediente funcional na indústria alimentícia e farmacêutica.

ABSTRACT: The discovery of new natural additives from agro-industrial waste is considered an important research topic. This study investigated the feasibility of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of antioxidant compounds from corn stigma (CS) and the effect of independent variables (time and solid-solvent ratio) and their interaction in the extraction of CS. Results indicated that the UAE method increases the antioxidant activity and reduces the extraction time by 67%. Optimized conditions for the simultaneous extraction of antioxidants and polyphenols from CS were obtained using 5 min and a solid-solvent ratio of 0.05 g mL-1. The CS extract obtained by UAE was characterized by ESI-ToF-MS and 27 phytochemicals were reported. The extract showed promising antifungal and antibacterial activities against 23 of the studied microorganisms. Therefore, the CS extract obtained by the UAE can be used as a source of bioactive and antimicrobial compounds for use as a functional ingredient in the food and pharmaceutical industry.

RESUMO Os estresses abióticos são uma das principais razões para a baixa produtividade das culturas devido aos distúrbios causados por eles. As poliaminas podem ser aplicadas para mitigar os efeitos nocivos do estresse nas plantas. A capuchinha (Tropaeolum majus L.) é uma planta ornamental, medicinal e comestível encontrada em muitos países. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de poliaminas e estresse salino no crescimento e nas trocas gasosas foliares de T. majus. Os tratamentos para induzir o estresse salino foram os seguintes: 0 mM NaCl (sem estresse), 40 mM NaCl (estresse moderado), 80 mM NaCl (estresse severo), 40 mM NaCl + espermina (Spm), 40 mM NaCl + espermidina (Spd), NaCl 40 mM + putrescina (Put), NaCl 80 mM + Spm, NaCl 80 mM + Spd e NaCl 80 mM + Put. As poliaminas foram aplicadas semanalmente durante quatro semanas. As aplicações de Spd e Spm atenuaram os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado na altura de plantas e na massa fresca das folhas. A aplicação de Spm atenuou os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado no diâmetro do caule. A aplicação de Spd atenuou os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado sobre o número de botões, massa fresca do caule e massa fresca total. A aplicação de Spm atenuou os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino severo na condutância estomática e na taxa de transpiração e atenuou os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado na condutância estomática, fotossíntese líquida e taxa de transpiração. A aplicação de Spd atenuou os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado na eficiência instantânea do uso da água e na eficiência intrínseca do uso da água. As aplicações de Spm e Spd podem atenuar os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino moderado no crescimento e nas trocas gasosas foliares de capuchinha.

ABSTRACT Abiotic stresses are one of the major reasons for low crop productivity owing to the disturbances caused by them. Polyamines can be applied to mitigate the harmful effects of stress in plants. Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) is an ornamental, medicinal, and edible plant that is found in many countries. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of polyamines application and salt stress on the growth and leaf gas exchange of T. majus. The treatments to induce salt stress were as follows: 0 mM NaCl (no stress), 40 mM NaCl (moderate stress), 80 mM NaCl (severe stress), 40 mM NaCl + spermine (Spm), 40 mM NaCl + spermidine (Spd), 40 mM NaCl + putrescine (Put), 80 mM NaCl + Spm, 80 mM NaCl + Spd, and 80 mM NaCl + Put. Polyamines were applied every week for four weeks. The applications of Spd and Spm attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on plant height and leaf fresh mass. The application of Spm attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on stem diameter. The application of Spd attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on the number of buds, the stem fresh mass, and total fresh mass. The application of Spm attenuated the harmful effects of severe salt stress on stomatal conductance and transpiration rate and attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on stomatal conductance, net photosynthesis, and transpiration. The application of Spd attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on instantaneous water use efficiency and intrinsic water use efficiency. The applications of Spm and Spd application can attenuated the harmful effects of moderate salt stress on the growth and leaf gas exchange of nasturtium.

ABSTRACT Objective To examine associations between potentially inappropriate medication, use and the risk of falls, unplanned hospitalization and death in older patients receiving initial care in a geriatric day hospital due to acute conditions. Methods Cohort study with older adults referred to a geriatric day hospital from 2014 to 2017 due to acute conditions. Patients were submitted to comprehensive geriatric assessment. Use of medications was analyzed according to Beers Criteria 2019. Outcome assessment was based on monthly follow-up telephone calls made over the course of one year. Results In this sample, 40.6% of patients had been prescribed at least one potentially inappropriate medication, particularly proton pump inhibitors (66.5%). Over the course of follow-up, 44.7% of patients receiving potentially inappropriate medications sustained at least one fall (p=0.0043) and 70% visited the emergency department (p=0.0452). These outcomes were more common among patients using two or more of drugs. Use of potentially inappropriate medication was associated with a 64% increase in the odds of unplanned hospitalization and a two-fold increase in risk of death. Conclusion Associations between potentially inappropriate medication use and unfavorable outcomes such as falls and unplanned hospitalizations within one year of admission to a geriatric day hospital support the application of Beers Criteria and emphasize the importance of periodic prescription review, deprescription and rational use of these drugs whenever possible.
