Resumo Os objetivos desta pesquisa foram avaliar o potencial antibacteriano do óleoessencial de tomilho sobre V. alginolyticus e V. parahaemolyticys e produzir microcápsulas através do processo de secagem por aspersão (spray dryer). Os compostos químicos do óleo essencial de tomilho e das microcápsulas foram identificados e quantificadaos. Foi preparada uma emulsão de óleo em água (O/A) e em seguida foram produzidas microcápsulas em um spray dryer utilizando-se óleo essencial de tomilho e maltodextrina como material de parede na proporção de 1:4 respectivamente. Entre os vários compostos identificados, o timol apresentou maior concentração. O óleo essencial de tomilho e as microcápsulas exibiram atividade antibacteriana sobre V. parahaemolyticus e V. alginolyticus. O processo de secagem por aspersão não afetou a atividade antibacteriana do óleo essencial de tomilho.

Abstract The aims of this research were first, to evaluate the antibacterial potential of commercial thyme essential oil against V. alginolyticus and V. parahaemolyticys and second, using the spray drying technique to produce microcapsules. chemical compounds of thyme oil and microcapsules were identified and quantified being thymol the chemical component present at the highest concentration. Oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions were prepared and the microcapsules were obtained with a spray dryer using maltodextrin as wall material (ratio 1:4). Thyme oil and the microcapsules exhibited antimicrobial activity against V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus. The spray drying process did not affect the antimicrobial activity of thyme essentialoil.

RESUMO Foi conduzido um ensaio de digestibilidade para determinar o valor nutritivo do resíduo desidratado de cervejaria (RDC) e outro para verificar o desempenho de coelhos em crescimento alimentados com rações contendo diferentes níveis de RDC e a viabilidade econômica da utilização do RDC. No ensaio de digestibilidade, foram utilizados 20 coelhos, de ambos os sexos, da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, com idade média de 45 dias, distribuídos em delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso, com dois tratamentos, sendo uma dieta referência e outra dieta teste, na qual o RDC substituiu a ração referência em nível de 30%. Os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente (CDA) da matéria seca (MS), da energia bruta (EB), da proteína bruta (PB) do RDC foram de 49,97%, 49,34%, e 71,06%, respectivamente, com valores de energia digestível (ED) e proteína digestível (PD) do RDC, com base na matéria seca, de 2330,60kcal/kg e 15,75%. No experimento de desempenho, foram avaliadas rações com níveis de inclusão de RDC de 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% e 25%. Foram utilizados 120 coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, 60 machos e 60 fêmeas, com 32 dias de idade, em delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso, com seis tratamentos e 10 repetições, sendo a unidade experimental constituída por dois animais. Não foram observadas diferenças no desempenho dos coelhos alimentados com ração contendo níveis crescentes de RDC, exceto para a conversão alimentar aos 70 dias, que apresentou efeito quadrático no período dos 32 aos 70 dias de idade, com a pior conversão alimentar ao nível de 16,95% de RDC. No entanto, houve redução linear nos custos com alimentação, por quilo de ganho de peso dos animais. Conclui-se que o resíduo desidratado de cervejaria apresenta CDA equivalente aos ingredientes convencionais, podendo ser incluído até o nível máximo estudado de 25% nas rações de coelhos em crescimento, sem prejudicar o desempenho.

ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted, being a digestibility assay in order to determine the nutritive value of dehydrated diets containing different levels of DBR, and the economic viability of the use of DRC brewer residue (DBR) and other assays to verify the performance of growing rabbits fed. In the digestibility experiment, twenty White New Zealand rabbits were used, with an average age of 45 days, of both genders, distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments, one reference diet and other test diets, in which the DBR replaced the basal diet at 30% level. The apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of dry matter (DM), gross energy (GE), crude protein (CP) of DBR were, respectively, 49.97%, 49.34% and 71.06%. The values of digestible energy (DE) and digestible protein (DP) of the DBR, based on dry matter, were 2330.60kcal/kg and 15.75%. In the performance experiment, diets with levels of DBR inclusion of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% were evaluated. One hundred and twenty 32 days old New Zealand White rabbits were used, being 60 males and 60 females, distributed in a completely randomized design with six treatments and ten replicates, and the experimental unit consisted of two animals. No differences (P>0.05) were observed in the performance of rabbits fed diets containing increasing levels of dehydrated brewer residue, except for feed conversion at 70 days which presented a quadratic effect, with the worst results at the level of 16.95% of the DBR inclusion in the diet. It is concluded that the dehydrated brewer residue has good nutritional value and can be included up to the maximum level studied of 25% in the diets of growing rabbits, with no damage to its performance.

Avaliaram-se as características quantitativas e qualitativas do sêmen de coelhos alimentados com uma ração referência e outra ração formulada com 79,83% de subprodutos de mandioca. Utilizaram-se 20 reprodutores da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, com idade média inicial de sete meses, alojados individualmente em gaiolas e distribuídos em delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso, com duas dietas e dez repetições. Realizaram-se dez colheitas de sêmen por animal durante seis meses. Avaliaram-se o volume de sêmen sem gel e volume de gel, cor do sêmen, pH, motilidade espermática progressiva, vigor espermático, concentração espermática, número de espermatozoides no ejaculado, espermatozoides normais, anormais e anormalidades primárias e secundárias. O volume de sêmen sem gel, o índice de normalidade, as anormalidades primárias e secundárias foram iguais (P>0,05) para os animais alimentados com a ração referência e a com subprodutos de mandioca. Os demais parâmetros do sêmen foram melhores (P<0,05) nos animais tratados com a ração com subprodutos de mandioca. Os resultados das características quali-quantitativas do sêmen dos coelhos da Raça Nova Zelândia Branco demonstram que é possível utilizar ração com 79,83% do volume da formulação com subprodutos de mandioca, na dieta de reprodutores, sem prejuízos nas características do sêmen, desde que observados os níveis reduzidos de taninos e ácido cianídrico.

The quantitative and qualitative rabbit semen characteristics fed with a reference diet and a diet formulated with 79.83% of cassava by-products were evaluated. 20 New Zealand White rabbit bucks, with initial average age of seven months were used, individually allocated and distributed in a completely ramdomized design, with two diets (treatments) and ten replications. The ten semen collections per animal were taken during six months. The evaluated parameters were: semen volume without gel and gel volume, color of semen, pH, spermatic progressive motility, spermatic vigor, spermatic concentration, spermatozoa number in the ejaculation, normal spermatozoa, abnormal and primary and secondary abnormalities spermatozoa. The semen volume without gel, the normal spermatozoa, primary and secondary abnormalities spermatozoa were similar (P>0.05) to the animals fed with cassava by-products diet and reference diet. Other semen parameters were better (P<0.05) in the animals fed with the cassava by-products diet. The results of the quali-quantitative characteristics of the semen from New Zealand White rabbits showed that it is possible to use diets containing 79.83% of inclusion of cassava by-products in the diet of rabbit bucks, without affecting semen characteristics, since we observed the reduced level of tannins and hydrocyanic acid.

Dois experimentos foram conduzidos com o objetivo de determinar a energia digestível da glicerina semipurificada vegetal e mista e o desempenho de coelhos em crescimento alimentados com dietas contendo os coprodutos. No ensaio de digestibilidade, foram utilizados 108 coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, com 45 dias de idade, distribuídos ao acaso em nove tratamentos (0, 4, 8, 12 e 16% de inclusão de glicerina vegetal e mista na dieta), com 12 repetições. Para o ensaio de desempenho, utilizaram-se 180 coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, dos 32 aos 70 dias de idade, distribuídos ao acaso em arranjo fatorial 2 x 4 (dois tipos de glicerina e quatro porcentagens de inclusão: 3, 6, 9 e 12%) mais uma dieta referência, com 10 repetições e dois animais por unidade experimental. Glicerinas vegetal e mista apresentaram energia digestível de 4.048 e 3.697kcal/kg MS, respectivamente. Entre 32 e 50 dias de idade dos coelhos, a dieta com 12% de glicerina mista prejudicou (P<0,05) o ganho de peso (32,14 g/dia), a conversão alimentar (3,57) e o custo por quilo de ganho de peso (R$ 2,08) em relação à dieta referência (39,42g/dia, 2,87 e R$1,69, respectivamente). Dos 32 aos 70 dias, o ganho de peso (30,11g/dia) e a conversão alimentar (3,99) dos animais que receberam 12% de glicerina mista na dieta foram piores (P<0,05) em relação aos da dieta referência (34,00g/dia e 3,65, respectivamente). Para as características de desempenho, dos 32 aos 70 dias, não foram verificadas diferenças (P>0,05) entre a inclusão de glicerina vegetal na dieta e a dieta referência, porém a maior viabilidade econômica (P<0,05) foi com 12% de inclusão (R$1,89 x R$2,15, respectivamente). A glicerina vegetal pode ser incluída em até 12% da dieta e a mista, em até 9%, diminuindo o custo de produção sem afetar o desempenho animal.

Two trials were conducted with the goal of determining the digestible energy of vegetal and mixed semi purified glycerin and the performance of growing rabbits fed with diets containing the byproducts. In the digestibility assay 108 New Zealand White rabbits, 45 days old, were used, assigned in a completely randomized design into nine treatments (0, 4, 8, 12 and 16% of glycerins inclusion), with 12 replications. The treatment with 0% of glycerin inclusion was considered the reference diet. In the performance assay, 180 New Zealand White rabbits, 32 to 70 days of age, were assigned to a completely randomized design into a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement (two types of glycerin and four percentages of inclusion: 3, 6, 9 and 12%) plus a reference diet and ten replications with two animals per experimental unit. Vegetal and mixed glycerin showed a digestible energy of 4,048 and 3,697 kcal/kg of dry matter, respectively. From 32 to 50 days of age, the diet with 12% of mixed glycerin affected (P<0.05) weight gain (32.14g/day), feed conversion (3.57) and cost per kilo of weight gain (R$2.08) in relation to the reference diet (39.42g/day, 2.87 and R$ 1.69, respectively). From 32 to 70 days, weight gain (30.11g/day) and feed conversion (3.99) of the animals fed with the diet containing 12% of mixed glycerin were worst (P<0.05) in relation to the reference diet (34.00 g/day and 3.65, respectively). Regarding characteristics of animal performance, from 32 to 70 days, no differences (P>0.05) were observed between the inclusion of vegetal glycerin in the diet and the reference diet, but better economic viability was verified (P<0.05) with the diet containing 12% of vegetal glycerin (R$1.89 x R$2.15, respectively). Vegetal glycerin can be included up to 12% in the diet and mixed up to 9%, reducing production cost without affecting animal performance.

Dois experimentos foram realizados para se estudar a metodologia de uso de porcentagens crescentes de substituição da ração referência pelo alimento teste fibroso (casca de café melosa - CCM), em ensaios de digestibilidade com suínos. No Experimento I, foi realizado um ensaio de digestibilidade utilizando 30 machos castrados, distribuídos em delineamento de blocos ao acaso. No Experimento II, foram utilizados 42 suínos na fase de crescimento e 42 suínos na fase de terminação, distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, com seis rações, sete repetições e um animal por unidade experimental. As seis rações foram: uma ração controle, quatro rações usando os valores de energia metabolizável (EM) da CCM obtidos no Experimento I e uma ração com EM da CCM estimada por equação de regressão linear para 15% de substituição. Os estudos de digestibilidade indicaram que o uso de porcentagens crescentes de substituição - 7, 14, 21 e 28% - reduziu a digestibilidade da CCM. Os valores de EM, na matéria natural, obtidos para a CCM foram 2.456, 2.377, 2.247 e 1.945kcal/kg. Os resultados indicam que porcentagens mais elevadas de substituição superestimam o valor energético e que a crescente substituição da ração referência pelo alimento teste pode ser utilizada para estimar, de forma mais precisa, os valores energéticos de alimentos fibrosos para suínos. Para suínos em crescimento e em terminação, pode-se usar, respectivamente, até 28% e 15% de casca de café melosa sem prejudicar o desempenho e a viabilidade econômica.

Two experiments were carried out to study the methodology of using increasing levels of substitution of the basal diet with fibrous test feedstuffs (sticky coffee hull - SCH) in digestibility trials with pigs. In Experiment 1, a digestibility trial was conducted using 30 crossbred barrows, allotted in a randomized block design. In Experiment 2, 42 growing and 42 finishing pigs were used, allotted in a completely randomized design, with six diets and seven replicates, with one animal per experimental unit. The six diets consisted of: a control diet, four diets using SCH ME values as obtained in Experiment 1 plus a diet using SCH ME value estimated by linear regression equation for 15% substitution. The digestibility study indicated that the use of increasing levels of substitution (7, 14, 21 and 28%) reduced SCH digestibility. ME values, as-fed basis, were 2,456, 2,377, 2,247 and 1,945kcal/kg. The overall results indicate that higher levels of substitution overestimate the energy value and that the method of increasing levels of substitution of the basal diet with feedstuffs test can be used to more accurately estimate the energy values of fibrous feedstuffs for pigs. For growing and finishing pigs respectively, up to 28% and 15% of sticky coffee hull can be used without impairing pig performance and economic feasibility.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the quality of the rabbit skins in different parts and orientations of the surface, submitted at different time of processing. The rabbits were slaughtered with 70 days of age and forty skins were used. It was used a completely randomized design in a 2 x 4 factorial treatment, being in two times of processing (T1= regular time and T2= continuous time) and four positions of cut in the skin (P1= fore longitudinal and P2= fore transversal; P3= hind longitudinal and P4= hind transversal). The steps of the tanning process were soaking, fleshing, liming (3% of sodium sulphide and 4% of lime), alkaline products remotion, purge, degrease, pickling, tanning (6% of chrome salts), neutralization, retanning (4% of chrome salts), dying, grease (6% of sulfacant oils), dryness and softening. The thickness of the rabbit skins was significantly higher (p<0.05) when the continuous time technique was used (1.03 mm). The time of tanning gave different values of traction in all positions of the samples, except for the fore transversal. The hind region regardless of the time showed a less resistant skin to traction (regular time= 6.01 N/mm² and continuous time= 3.54 N/ mm²). The fore region regardless if it is a longitudinal way (37.28 N/mm) or transversal (35.71 N/mm), showed a higher resistance to tearing compared to the hind region (longitudinal= 26.78 N/mm and transversal= 25.94 N/mm) in regular time. The technique used in the regular time tanning offered a less elasticity to the rabbit skin in relation to the continuous time. The skins must be tanning by regular time because offer more resistance to traction and superior tearing than skins tanned by continuous time. The fore region showed more resistance than hind region for progressive tearing in all times of tanning. The skins of the hind longitudinal region regardless of the time showed a less resistant to traction. The regular time of tanning gave skins with less elasticity, but for progressive tearing and stretching test, the values are in the pattern for be used in clothing manufacturing, according to BASF (2005).

O experimento foi conduzido para avaliar a qualidade dos couros de coelhos em diferentes partes da superfície e orientações, submetidos a dois diferentes tempos de processamento. Foram utilizadas 40 peles de coelhos, da raça Nova Zelândia Branco, abatidos aos 70 dias de idade. Foi utilizado um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, tendo nas parcelas os tratamentos (T1= tempo normal; T2= tempo contínuo) e nas subparcelas as posições de corte no couro (P1= anterior longitudinal; P2 = anterior transversal; P3= posterior longitudinal e P4= posterior transversal), com dez repetições por tratamento. As etapas aplicadas no processo de curtimento foram: remolho, descarne, caleiro (3% de sulfeto de sódio e 4% de cal), desencalagem, purga, desengraxe, píquel, curtimento (6% de sais de cromo), neutralização, recurtimento (4% sais de cromo), tingimento, engraxe (6% de óleos sulfatados), secagem e amaciamento. A espessura dos couros foi maior (p<0,05) quando se utilizou a técnica de curtimento com tempo contínuo (1,03 mm). O tempo de curtimento proporcionou diferentes valores de tração em todas as posições de retirada do corpo de prova, exceto para anterior transversal. A região posterior do couro apresentou menor tração independente do tempo de curtimento (normal= 6,01 N/mm2 e contínuo= 3,54 N/mm²). A região anterior independente da posição (longitudinal= 37,28 N/mm ou transversal= 35,71 N/mm), apresentou maior resistência ao rasgamento comparado a região posterior (longitudinal= 26,78 N/mm e transversal= 25,94 N/ mm) nos couros curtidos com tempo normal. Curtimento em tempo normal proporcionou menor elasticidade aos couros. Os couros devem ser curtidos pelo método com tempo normal de processamento, por proporcionarem maior resistência a tração e rasgamento superiores em relaçao aos curtidos em tempo contínuo. A região anterior apresentou maior resistência comparada a região posterior para rasgamento progressivo, independente do tempo de curtimento utilizado. Os couros na região posterior longitudinal apresentaram menor resistência a tração, independente do tempo de processamento aplicado. Deve-se ressaltar que o curtimento em período normal proporcionou couros com menor elasticidade, mas pelo teste de rasgamento progressivo e alongamento, os valores estão dentro dos padrões exigidos para confecção de vestuários seguindo os valores BASF (2005).

Avaliaram-se os efeitos de dietas simplificadas à base de forragens sobre a digestibilidade aparente dos nutrientes em coelhos Nova Zelândia branco. As dietas experimentais foram: referência (REF), feno de alfafa (FAL), feno das folhas de rami (FRA), feno das folhas de amoreira (FAM) e feno do terço superior da rama da mandioca (FMA). A digestibilidade das dietas foi influenciada pelo tipo de alimento estudado; a FMA apresentou coeficientes de digestibilidade inferiores às demais dietas para todos os princípios nutritivos analisados. Para a dieta FAM, os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente dos princípios nutritivos foram maiores (P<0,05) que os coeficientes das outras dietas estudadas. Os animais que ingeriram a dieta FAM apresentaram distúrbios digestivos e baixos consumos, com efeito negativo sobre os resultados. Os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente das demais dietas estudadas foram semelhantes (P>0,05). Os valores estimados de energia digestível (kcal ED/kg MS) e proteína digestível (%PD/MS) foram, respectivamente, para o feno de alfafa: 2285,27 e 16,04; feno das folhas de rami: 1857,88 e 16,37; feno das folhas de amoreira: 2838,48 e 15,12 e feno do terço superior da mandioca: 2155,55 e 10,57.

The effect of simplified diets based on forages on the apparent digestibility in white New Zealand rabbits was evaluated. The treatments were based on the following diets: reference (REF), hay of alfalfa (FAL), hay of rami leaves (FRA), hay of mulberry leaves (FAM) and hay of upper to 1/3 aereal part of cassava (FMA). The type of food affected the digestibility of the diets. The FMA diet showed low coefficients of digestibility in comparison to the other diets for all the analyzed nutrients. For the FAM diet the coefficients of apparent digestibility of the nutrients had higher values (P<0.05) than the coefficients of the other studied diets. The animals that ingested FAM diet showed digestive disorders and low consumption, with negative effect on the results. The coefficients of apparent digestibility of the remaining diets were similar (P>0.05). The estimated values of digestible energy (kcal DE/kg DM) and digestible protein (%DP/DM) were, respectively, 2285.27 and 16.04 for alfalfa hay, 1857.88 and 16.37 for hay of rami leaves, 2838.48 and 15.12 for hay of mulberry leaves and 2155.55 and 10.57 for hay of upper to 1/3 aereal part of cassava.
