ABSTRACT An alternative to reduce the time taken for height measurements of trees is the use of equations, usually obtained from the fitting of local hypsometric models, which require the fit of equations for each stratum that characterize the forest. Therefore, this work was developed with the objective of evaluating regional hypsometric models adjusted to clonal eucalyptus data. A total of 26 regional fixed-effect (FE) models were evaluated, adopting the following statistical criteria: lack of multicollinearity, significance in the estimation of regression coefficients, compliance with regression assumptions, graphical residual analysis and validation test with independent data adopting the mean squared of the prediction residuals, the sum of squares of the relative prediction residuals, the interquartile range between the 1st and 3rd quartiles and multiple linear correlation. After identifying the FE model that most stood out among the others, it was adjusted in the form of a mixed effect (ME) model, by including the random effect of the sampling unit. In this case, to compare with the respective FE model, in addition to the previous criteria, the following were adopted: Akaike information criterion, Bayesian information criterion and maximum likelihood ratio test. It was concluded that there is an inexorable need to consider the adjustment of models with ME, because it stands out above the respective model with FE.

RESUMO Uma alternativa para reduzir o tempo despendido com a medição da altura das árvores é o emprego de equações, geralmente, geradas a partir do ajuste de modelos hipsométricos locais, os quais exigem o ajuste de equações conforme o número de unidades amostrais e, ou, estratos que caracterizam a população inventariada. Por isso, este trabalho tem o objetivo de avaliar modelos hipsométricos regionais ajustados aos dados de eucalipto clonal. Foram avaliados um total de 26 modelos regionais de efeito fixo (EF), adotando-se os seguintes critérios estatísticos: inexistência de multicolinearidade, significância na estimativa dos coeficientes de regressão, atendimento às pressuposições de regressão, análise gráfica de resíduos e teste validação com dados independentes, adotando-se a média dos quadrados dos resíduos de predição, a soma dos quadrados dos resíduos de predição relativos, o intervalo interquartil entre o 1º e 3º quartis e correlação linear múltipla. Após identificar o modelo de EF que mais se sobressaiu dentre os demais, procedeu-se o seu ajuste na forma de modelo de efeito misto (EM), ao incluir o efeito aleatório da unidade amostral. Neste caso, para comparar com o respectivo modelo de EF, além dos critérios anteriores, adotaram-se: critério de informação de Akaike, critério de informação Bayesiano e teste da razão da máxima verossimilhança. Concluiu-se a necessidade inexorável de considerar o ajuste de modelos com EM, por este se destacar sobremaneira ao respectivo modelo com EF.

RESUMO: O presente estudo testou se a biomassa radicular de misturas compostas por gramíneas é maior do que os seus respectivos monocultivos. Os tratamentos foram monocultivos de Arrhenatherum elatius, Festuca arundinacea, Dactylis glomerata e uma mistura delas, cultivadas em um solo rico em nutrientes. A biomassa da raiz foi avaliada uma vez por estação em três profundidades de solo (0-5, 5-10 e 10-20 cm). Os pastos mistos apresentaram a maior biomassa radicular e isso pode ser explicado pela maior concentração de raízes na camada superficial do solo (0-5 cm). Esses achados reforçam a necessidade de práticas permanentes de conservação do solo para não prejudicar os benefícios da biomassa radicular mais abundante encontrada nos pastos mistos.

ABSTRACT: In this study we tested whether the root biomass of mixtures composed by grass species is greater than their respective monocultures. The treatments were monocultures of Arrhenatherum elatius, Festuca arundinacea, Dactylis glomerata, and a mixture of them, cultivated in a rich-soil environment. Root biomass was evaluated on a single evaluation per season at three soil depths (0-5, 5-10, and 10-20 cm). Mixed swards presented the greatest root biomass, and this was explained by a greater concentration in the topsoil layer (0-5 cm). These findings reinforce the need for permanent soil conservation practices to not jeopardize the benefits of the more abundant root biomass reported in the mixed swards.

ABSTRACT This study reports for the first time the content of trace elements and light-absorbing particles (LAPs) in snow samples collected from a Peruvian glacier (Huaytapallana). The sampling campaign was carried out monthly from November 2015 to March 2019. The trace elements content was quantified by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, while LAPs were analyzed using the light absorption heating method. The chemical composition dataset was assessed by descriptive statistics and t-test for assessing dry season and wet season differences. In addition, enrichment factor (EF) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were employed to identify possible emission sources. The snow, ice, and aerosol radiative (SNICAR) model was used to measure the effect of LAPs on snow albedo and radiative forcing (RF). Based on analysis of EF and HCA, it was shown that Al, Ti, Si, Co, Ce, Sr, Mn, Mg, Ba and Na have mainly natural sources; K, Ca, Fe, Cu, Pb and As have a mixture of natural and anthropogenic sources, and Zn has anthropogenic source. SNICAR model results indicated that LAPs reduced the snow albedo by up 4.5 % in the dry season with RF values as high as 33 W/m2. Therefore, we conclude that the presence of these particles substantially increases melt or sublimation rates of Peruvian glaciers.

RESUMEN Este estudio informa por primera vez el contenido de elementos traza y partículas absorbentes de luz (PAL) en muestras de nieve colectadas de un glaciar peruano (glaciar Huaytapallana). La campaña de muestreo se realizó mensualmente desde noviembre de 2015 hasta marzo de 2019. El contenido de elementos traza se cuantificó mediante espectrometría de masa de plasma acoplado inductivamente, mientras que las PAL se analizaron utilizando un método de calentamiento por absorción de luz. El conjunto de datos de los elementos químicos se sometió a pruebas estadísticas para evaluar cambios entre las épocas seca y húmeda. Además, se emplearon análisis de agrupamiento jerárquico (AAJ), el factor de enriquecimiento (FE) y trayectorias inversas calculadas con el modelo HYSPLIT para identificar posibles fuentes de emisión. Se utilizó el modelo de transferencia radiativa SNICAR para estimar el efecto de los PAL sobre el albedo de nieve y el forzamiento radiativo (FR). De acuerdo con el análisis del FE y el AAJ, los elementos Al, Ti, Si, Co, Ce, Sr, Mn, Mg, Ba y Na están influenciados por fuentes naturales, en tanto que el K, Ca, Fe, Cu, Pb y As sugieren una mezcla de origen de fuentes naturales y antrópicas, y el Zn presenta una fuente significativamente antrópica. Por otro lado, según el modelo SNICAR, la presencia de las PAL redujo el albedo de la nieve hasta un 4.5 % en la estación seca con valores de FR de hasta 33 W/m2. Por lo tanto, concluimos que la presencia de estas partículas provenientes de fuentes antrópicas aumenta sustancialmente las tasas de fusión o sublimación de los glaciares peruanos.

ABSTRACT The phosphorus (P) rates recommended for corrective fertilization-P of soils from southern Brazil may be insufficient to reach the critical level for optimal plant growth. This study aimed to quantify the fertilizer-P rates for total correction fertilization with varying soil buffering capacity in the states of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) and Santa Catarina (SC). Soil samples from 0.00-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m layers were collected from 41 locations distributed in both states. Twelve P rates were applied to each soil, varying between 0 and 100 % of the maximum adsorption capacity (P-max), and incubated for 20 days. After incubation, the extractable P was determined by Mehlich-1. Based on the relationship between applied rates and extracted P, the P buffer capacity (trP_M1) of the soils was quantified, relating it to soil properties. The trP_M1 values, that is, amounts of P2O5 required to increase 1 mg dm-3 of P extracted by Mehlich-1, varied between 2.4 and 34.5 kg ha-1 of P2O5. A multiple explanatory equation for the variable P was generated, in which only P-max, clay content, and initial P availability have a significant effect. The P buffer capacity was significantly higher in the soils with the highest clay content, and there was a reduction in trP_M1 for soils with higher initial P availability. Considering 270 soil samples with low P, the P rate to reach the sufficient levels may be 2-folds higher than the values currently indicated for the RS and SC states, especially for soils with more than 40 % of clay. Phosphorus rates for corrective fertilization must be based on the soil clay content and in P initial availability. The fertilizer-P in clayey soils must be increased.

The dependence of the photoinitiator concentration on the degree of conversion, mechanical properties and colour appearance of dental materials was studied. Alterations due to changes in the concentration of the photoinitiator were-undertaken. Test samples prepared by photopolymerizing BisGMA and TEGDMA in the presence of the photoinitiator camphorquinone (CQ) were prepared and submitted to mechanical analyses, i.e., compressive and diametral tensile strength and Barcol hardness tests and CIELAB colour analysis. The hardness and compressive tests showed a levelling off at concentrations around 0.5% and remained at those values up to 1.0%, whereas the DTS didn´t show any variation over that range of concentrations. The colour experiments showed dependence with the concentration of CQ in the photopolymerizing system due to its intense absorption in the yellow region. The results indicate that photopolymerization systems containing CQ/EDB as photoinitiator at concentrations between 0.5 and 1.0% present similar mechanical properties.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the leaf area index (LAI) recovery mechanisms and forage accumulation rates on the regrowth of different grass species subjected to different defoliation intensities. For that purpose, plots of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass), Lolium multiflorum (annual ryegrass), and Avena strigosa (black oats) were defoliated from 20 to 80 % of their initial heights (25, 20, and 25 cm, respectively). At different increments in height, forage samples were collected to ground level and used to estimate tiller population density (TPD), leaf area per tiller (LA), and forage mass. From these data, we calculated the leaf area index (LAI), average leaf area index (aLAI), and average and instantaneous forage accumulation rate (FAR and IFAR, respectively). Data were plotted over time (days) to describe LAI recovery and forage accumulation rates. As the defoliation intensity increased, greater canopy heights were needed for pastures to achieve their maximum forage accumulation rates, which required longer regrowth intervals. The need for high tiller recruitment after defoliation, which delayed canopy LAI recovery, seemed to be one of the main cause. Thus, grazing management strategies that involve costly tiller recruitment could decrease both overall forage production and sward persistence over time. However, the plant ability to recover LAI after successive intense defoliations seems to be species-dependent and related to their phenotypic plasticity.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Estimar a prevalência de quedas acidentais em mulheres e identificar possíveis associações de variáveis sociodemográficas, clínicas e de hábitos de vida com as quedas, em 2007 e 2014. MÉTODOS Foram realizados dois estudos transversais, em 2007 e 2014, dentro do Projeto de Saúde de Pindamonhangaba (PROSAPIN), com mulheres com idades variando de 35 a 75 anos. As amostras probabilísticas foram selecionadas dentre as mulheres residentes no município e participantes da Estratégia Saúde da Família. A coleta de dados incluiu: entrevista face a face, exame antropométrico e exame sanguíneo. A variável de desfecho “Sofreu queda nos últimos seis meses?” foi levantada durante a entrevista. Foram estimadas as prevalências de quedas em 2007 e 2014 por ponto e intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Modelos de regressão logística múltipla foram construídos para identificar a associação das variáveis independentes e a ocorrência de quedas para cada ano a partir da odds ratio (OR). Utilizou-se o software Stata 14.0 para análise estatística. RESULTADOS As prevalências de quedas acidentais foram: 17,6% (IC95% 14,9–20,5) em 2007 e 17,2% (IC95% 14,8–19,8) em 2014. Em 2007 os fatores associados a quedas foram: idade de 50–64 anos (OR = 1,81; IC95% 1,17–2,80), ensino médio (OR = 1,76; IC95% 1,06–2,93), hiperuricemia (OR = 3,74; IC95% 2,17–6,44), depressão (OR = 2,07; IC95% 1,31–3,27), sono ruim (OR = 1,78; IC95% 1,12–2,82) e sonolência diurna (OR = 1,86; IC95% 1,16–2,99). Em 2014 permaneceram: idade de 50–64 anos (OR = 1,64; IC95% 1,04–2,58), hiperuricemia (OR = 1,91; IC95% 1,07–3,43) e depressão (OR = 1,56; IC95% 1,02–2,38), acrescidos da síndrome metabólica (OR = 1,60; IC95% 1,03–2,47) e da dor musculoesquelética (OR = 1,81; IC95% 1,03–3,18). CONCLUSÕES As quedas ocorrem de maneira importante em mulheres a partir dos 50 anos, indicando que não são restritas a idosos e que há necessidade de iniciar medidas preventivas mais precocemente. Os dois estudos mostraram magnitudes semelhantes de ocorrência de quedas acidentais e reforçaram sua multifatorialidade. Além disso, a hiperuricemia pode ser um potencial novo fator associado a quedas.

We used the Stata 14.0 software for statistical analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of accidental falls were: 17.6% (95%CI 14.9–20.5) in 2007 and 17.2% (95%CI 14.8–19.8) in 2014. In 2007, factors associated with falls were: aged 50–64 years (OR = 1.81; 95%CI 1.17–2.80), high school (OR = 1.76; 95%CI 1.06–2.93), hyperuricemia (OR = 3.74; 95%CI 2.17–6.44), depression (OR = 2.07; 95%CI 1.31–3.27), poor sleep (OR = 1.78; 95%CI 1.12–2.82) and daytime sleepiness (OR = 1.86; 95%CI 1.16–2.99). In 2014, they were: aged 50–64 years (OR = 1.64; 95%CI 1.04–2.58), hyperuricemia (OR = 1.91; 95%CI 1.07–3.43) and depression (OR = 1.56; 95%CI 1.02–2.38), plus metabolic syndrome (OR = 1.60; 95%CI 1.03–2.47) and musculoskeletal pain (OR = 1.81; 95%CI 1.03–3.18). CONCLUSIONS Falls occur significantly in women aged 50 years or over, indicating that they are not restricted to older adults and that there is a need to initiate preventive measures earlier. ABSTRACT The overloading of soil with manure or mineral fertilizers enhances phosphorus (P) availability, promoting its loss to water bodies and increasing the risk of eutrophication. In this sense, the establishment of an environmental P threshold is a simple and useful tool to classify soils regards its risk of P losses. Here we propose a P-threshold for soils from the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) in Brazil, with the soil clay content as the principal variable of the model. Samples from 20 representative soils of Rio Grande do Sul State were collected in the 0.00-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m layers. Samples were physically and chemically characterized and incubated with P rates varying from 0 to 100 % of its maximum adsorption capacity. After 20 days of incubation, the P availability was determined in water and Mehlich-1 extractant. We assessed trough segmented linear functions the value of P-Mehlich in which the levels of P water enhance abruptly (i.e., breaking point) to determine the P limit for each soil. Subsequently, the P limit values were linked to the clay content in the sample, adopting the linear equation arising from it as the P-threshold. Adding a safety margin of 20 % to the P-threshold equation, we propose a simplified one “P-threshold = 20 + clay”. Based on the current critical level of P adopted by the regional recommendation in RG, the equation proposed does not limit the production of the most crop species.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Estimar as tendências de internação, mortalidade e letalidade por quedas em idosos no Brasil e regiões. MÉTODOS Estudo descritivo realizado a partir de dados do Sistema de Informações Hospitalares do Sistema Único de Saúde. Foram incluídos os registros de todos os idosos, a partir de 60 anos, internados por quedas acidentais entre janeiro de 1998 e novembro de 2015 em todas regiões do Brasil. Foram selecionados os códigos E885, E886, E880, E884, E888 e W01, W03, W10, W17, W18 da Classificação Internacional de Doenças (CID), 9ª e 10ª revisão respectivamente, e calculadas as taxas de internação e mortalidade por quedas por 100.000 habitantes, além da letalidade. Para cálculo de tendências, usou-se o procedimento de Prais-Winsten de autorregressão para análise de séries temporais. RESULTADOS Foram realizadas 1.192.829 internações por quedas no período, ocorreram 54.673 desfechos fatais, e a letalidade foi de 4,5%. As taxas de internação apresentaram tendências crescentes, com sazonalidade, no Brasil e nas regiões Nordeste, Centro-Oeste e Sul (taxas de crescimento de 11%, 44%, 13% e 14%, respectivamente). No Norte, a taxa de internação foi decrescente, e no Sudeste foi estacionária (taxas de crescimento: 48% e 3%). CONCLUSÕES Houve tendência crescente de internações, mortalidade e letalidade por quedas em idosos entre 1998 e 2015 no Brasil, com picos sazonais no segundo e terceiro trimestres. É necessário aprimorar tanto a assistência hospitalar quanto incentivar programas de prevenção de quedas em idosos, visto que estamos em plena transição demográfica.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To estimate the trends of fall-related hospitalization, mortality, and lethality among older adults in Brazil and regions. METHODS This is a descriptive study based on data from the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System. We included records of every older adult, aged 60 years or older, hospitalized for accidental fall from January, 1998 to November, 2015 in all Brazilian regions. We selected the codes E885, E886, E880, E884, E884 from the International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision, and W01, W03, W10, W17, W18 from the 10th revision, and calculated fall-related hospitalization and mortality rates per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as lethality. To estimate trends, we applied the Prais-Winsten regression for time series analysis. RESULTS During the period, 1,192,829 fall-related hospitalizations occurred, among which 54,673 had a fatal outcome; lethality was 4.5%. Hospitalization rates showed upward trends, with seasonality, in Brazil (11%), and in the Northeast (44%), Midwest (13%), and South regions (14%). The North showed a decreasing hospitalization rate (48%), and the Southeast a stationary one (3%). CONCLUSIONS In Brazil, fall-related hospitalizations, mortality, and lethality among older adults showed an upward trend from 1998 to 2015, with seasonal peaks in the second and third quarters. Considering we are in plain demographic transition, to improve hospital healthcare and encourage falls prevention programs among older adults is essential.

No Norte, a taxa de internação foi decrescente, e no Sudeste foi estacionária (taxas de crescimento: 48% e 3%). CONCLUSÕES Houve tendência crescente de internações, mortalidade e letalidade por quedas em idosos entre 1998 e 2015 no Brasil, com picos sazonais no segundo e terceiro trimestres. É necessário aprimorar tanto a assistência hospitalar quanto incentivar programas de prevenção de quedas em idosos, visto que estamos em plena transição demográfica.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To estimate the trends of fall-related hospitalization, mortality, and lethality among older adults in Brazil and regions. METHODS This is a descriptive study based on data from the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System. We included records of every older adult, aged 60 years or older, hospitalized for accidental fall from January, 1998 to November, 2015 in all Brazilian regions. We selected the codes E885, E886, E880, E884, E884 from the International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision, and W01, W03, W10, W17, W18 from the 10th revision, and calculated fall-related hospitalization and mortality rates per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as lethality. To estimate trends, we applied the Prais-Winsten regression for time series analysis. RESULTS During the period, 1,192,829 fall-related hospitalizations occurred, among which 54,673 had a fatal outcome; lethality was 4.5%. Hospitalization rates showed upward trends, with seasonality, in Brazil (11%), and in the Northeast (44%), Midwest (13%), and South regions (14%). The North showed a decreasing hospitalization rate (48%), and the Southeast a stationary one (3%). CONCLUSIONS In Brazil, fall-related hospitalizations, mortality, and lethality among older adults showed an upward trend from 1998 to 2015, with seasonal peaks in the second and third quarters. Considering we are in plain demographic transition, to improve hospital healthcare and encourage falls prevention programs among older adults is essential.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar alturas de manejo para pastos de papuã sob lotação contínua em sistemas de integração lavoura-pecuária (ILP). Para tanto, doze pastos foram cultivados em uma área de ILP e mantidos em 10, 20, 30 ou 40 cm por meio de lotação contínua com caprinos. As seguintes variáveis foram analisadas: massa; taxa de acúmulo e oferta de forragem e de folhas; relação lâmina:colmo; composição química de amostras de simulação de pastejo; carga animal; ganho médio diário e produção animal por área. Os dados foram submetidos a análises de regressão e correlação. A significância adotada foi de 5% (P≤0,05). Os principais resultados foram: i) houve um aumento linear na massa de forragem e folhas com o aumento da altura de manejo e pastos com mais de 20 cm já apresentavam a quantidade mínima recomendada para cobertura de solo em ILP ii) o desempenho animal atingiu um platô assintótico nos pastos manejados entre 30-40 cm e foi altamente correlacionado com a altura de manejo e a disponibilidade de forragem (massa e oferta). Pastos de Papuã manejados sob lotação contínua em ILP devem ser mantidos entre 30-40 cm para favorecer a produção de biomassa de cobertura e o desempenho animal.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was to identify grazing height targets for Alexandergrass pastures under continuous stocking in integrated crop-livestock system (ICLS). For this purpose, twelve pastures were cultivated into an ICLS area, and maintained at 10, 20, 30, or 40 cm using grazing goats. The following variables were analyzed: leaf and herbage mass, accumulation rate, and allowance; leaf:stem ratio; chemical composition of hand-plucked samples; stocking rate; average daily gain and gain per area. The data were submitted to regression and correlation analysis. Significance was set at 5% (P≤0.05). The main results were: i) herbage and leaf lamina mass increased linearly with grazing height, and pastures maintained at 20 cm already presented the minimum amount recommended for soil cover in ICLS; ii) animal performance achieved an upper asymptotic plateau in pastures maintained around 30-40 cm and it was highly correlated with both grazing height and forage availability (mass and allowance). Alexandergrass pastures under continuous stocking in ICLS should be maintained between 30-40 cm to improve both cover crop biomass and animal performance.

RESUMO Dois experimentos complementares foram conduzidos para investigar as relações entre a estrutura do dossel de pastagens de Pennisetum clandestinum (capim-quicuiu) criadas por estratégias de lotação intermitente e o consumo de forragem por bovinos. O primeiro (Exp. I) avaliou o efeito de diferentes alturas em pré-pastejo (10, 15, 20 e 25 cm) associadas com uma única severidade de desfolhação (50% das alturas iniciais). No segundo (Exp. II) quatro severidades de desfolhação (40, 50, 60 ou 70% da altura total) foram combinadas com uma única altura inicial (25 cm). As variáveis analisadas foram: i) composição morfológica, massa e densidade do estrato de pastejo; ii) consumo de forragem. Os dados foram analisados por contrastes de polinômios ortogonais. Entretanto, para uma melhor caracterização das diferenças entre tratamentos, optou-se por comparar as médias de consumo pelo teste de Tukey. De modo geral, o consumo de forragem diminuiu com a redução da altura em pré-pastejo (Exp. I; P=0,03) ou com o aumento da severidade de desfolhação (Exp. II; P=0,02), em resposta as estruturas criadas antes e durante o processo de ocupação. Ademais, houve uma aparente abdicação dos animais em compensar estas condições com ajustes no comportamento ingestivo. Concluiu-se que alturas em pré-pastejo menores que 25 cm ou severidades de desfolhação maiores que 40% reduzem o consumo de forragem por bovinos em pastos de capim-quicuiu sob lotação intermitente.

ABSTRACT Two complementary experiments were conducted to investigate the relationships between the canopy structure of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass) pastures created by intermittent stocking strategies and daily herbage intake by cattle. The first experiment (Exp. I) evaluated the relationship between different pre-grazing heights (10, 15, 20, and 25 cm) and a single defoliation intensity (50% reduction in the initial heights). In the second experiment (Exp. II), four defoliation intensities (40, 50, 60, or 70% reduction in height) were combined with a single pre-grazing height (25 cm). The following variables were analyzed: i) plant-part composition, herbage mass, and bulk density of the grazing layer; and ii) daily herbage intake. The data were analyzed using orthogonal polynomial contrasts. The Tukey-Kramer test was used to compare daily herbage intake means so that the differences among treatments could be characterized. In general, herbage intake decreased as the pre-grazing canopy height decreased (Exp. I; P = 0.03) and as defoliation intensity increased (Exp. II; P = 0.02). These response patterns were associated with canopy structure, both that existing before and that created during the stocking period. In conclusion, pre-grazing heights lower than 25 cm or defoliation intensities greater than 40% reduce daily herbage intake by cattle in kikuyugrass pastures under intermittent stocking.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the milk fatty acid (FA) composition of unsupplemented dairy cows grazing on elephantgrass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum. cv. Pioneiro) pastures under three grazing management strategies: pre-grazing height of 120 cm with defoliation intensities of 50 and 70% of the initial height (treatments 120/50 and 120/70) and pre-grazing height of 90 cm with defoliation intensity of 70% (treatment 90/70). Treatments were repeated three times in a complete randomized block design. Tester animals were six multiparous Holsteins cows grouped into pairs according to days in milk and milk yield and allocated to blocks. Individual milk samples were collected after the first and second days of grazing (two-day occupation period) and analyzed for FA composition. Milk fat from 120/50 and 90/70 treatments resulted in higher concentrations of C4:0, C6:0, C17:0 anteiso, rumenic acid (RA), vacenic acid (VA), trans-12 C18:1, trans-13/14 C18:1, cis-11 C18:1, cis-12 C18:1, cis-9, trans-12 C18:2, trans-11, cis-15 C18:2, and total polyunsaturated fatty acids. Additionally, both SCD14 (cis-9 14:1/14:0 + cis-9 14:1) and SCDRA (RA/VA + RA) desaturase indices were reduced in milk fat from cows subjected to 120/50 and 90/70 treatments. On average, the milk fat levels of RA and VA observed in our study were greater than those reported in most studies with tropical grass-based diets and similar to levels usually found in cows grazing on temperate pastures. Overall, our results showed that milk with a desirable fatty acid composition is produced by cows grazing on a tropical grass (elephantgrass cv. Pioneiro), with the combination of a pre-grazing height of 120 cm and a defoliation intensity of 50% of the initial height, being a practical management strategy to achieve this goal.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as modificações de frações de fósforo em um Cambissolo Húmico cultivado com vinhedos, após 62 anos de fertilização adicional com cama-de-aves. Amostras de solo foram coletadas de dois vinhedos (V1 e V2) e de uma área de floresta (F) adjacente a eles. Foram aplicados 1.362 e 910 kg ha-1 de P ao V1 e ao V2, respectivamente, durante os últimos 62 anos de cultivo. Amostras de solo foram coletadas a 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 e 30-40 cm de profundidade, para análises das propriedades físico-químicas do solo. A adição de cama-de-aves ao solo dos vinhedos aumentou os teores de P inorgânico (Pi) em todas as frações, exceto na fração residual, principalmente à profundidade de 0-10 cm, em comparação à área de floresta. A adição de cama-de-aves como fertilizante não afeta os estoques de P orgânico (Po) do Cambissolo Húmico, apenas aumenta os teores de Pi do solo.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate changes in phosphorus fractions in a Humic Cambisol cultivated with vineyards, after 62 years of additional fertilization with poultry litter. Soil samples were collected from two vineyards (V1 and V2) and a forested area adjacent to them. A total of 1,365 and 910 kg ha-1 P were applied to V1 and V2, respectively, throughout the past 62 years. Samples were collected at 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, and 30-40-cm soil depths for the analysis of soil physicochemical properties. The addition of poultry litter to the soil of the vineyards increased the contents of inorganic P (Pi) in all fractions, except in the residual fraction (residual-P), mainly at the 0-10-cm soil depth, in comparison with the forested area. The addition of poultry litter as fertilizer does not affect the organic P (Po) stock in the Humic Cambisol, it only increases the Pi contents of the soil.
