Abstract Background Levodopa is the most used and effective medication for motor symptoms of Parkinson disease (PD), its long-term use is associated with the appearance of levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). Uric acid (UA) is believed to play an important neuroprotective role in PD. Objective To investigate if serum UA levels are related with the presence of LIDs in PD patients. Also, we investigated the associations among UA levels and clinical features of PD. Methods We enrolled 81 PD patients (dyskinesia = 48; no dyskinesia = 33) in the present study. A blood sample was collected to evaluate serum UA levels, clinical evaluation included the following instruments: Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), MDS-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS), Hoehn and Yahr (HY), and the sub-item 4.1 of MDS-UPDRS IV (score ≥ 1). Additional relevant clinical information was obtained by a clinical questionnaire. Results Serum UA levels were lower in the dyskinesia group when compared with the no dyskinesia group. The same result was found in the UA levels of both men and women. The multivariate analysis showed lower uric acid levels were significantly associated with having dyskinesia (odds ratio [OR] = 0.424; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.221-0.746; p= 0.005). Additional analysis verified that serum UA levels are inversely correlated with depressive symptoms, disease duration, MDS-UPDRS IV and time spent with dyskinesia. A positive correlation was found with age at onset of PD symptoms. Conclusions The present study provides a possible role of serum UA levels in LID present in PD patients.

Resumo Antecedentes A levodopa é a medicação mais utilizada e eficaz para os sintomas motores da doença de Parkinson (DP); seu uso a longo prazo está associado ao aparecimento de discinesia induzida por levodopa (LID). Acredita-se que o ácido úrico desempenhe um importante papel neuroprotetor na DP. Objetivo Investigar se os níveis séricos de AU estão relacionados com a presença de LID em pacientes com DP. Além disso, investigamos as associações entre os níveis de AU e as características clínicas da DP. Métodos Foram incluídos 81 pacientes com DP (discinesia = 48; sem discinesia = 33) no presente estudo. Uma amostra de sangue foi coletada para avaliar os níveis séricos de AU, a avaliação clínica incluiu os seguintes instrumentos: Avaliação Cognitiva de Montreal (MoCA), Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI-II), MDS-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS), Hoehn and Yahr (HY) e o subitem 4.1 da MDS-UPDRS IV (escore ≥ 1). Informações clínicas relevantes adicionais foram obtidas por meio de um questionário clínico. Resultados Os níveis séricos de AU foram menores no grupo com discinesia quando comparados ao grupo sem discinesia. O mesmo resultado foi encontrado nos níveis de AU de homens e mulheres. A análise multivariada mostrou que níveis mais baixos de ácido úrico foram significativamente associados a ter discinesia (odds ratio [OR] = 0,424; intervalo de confiança (IC) de 95%: 0,221-0,746; p= 0,005). Análises adicionais verificaram que os níveis séricos de AU estão inversamente correlacionados com sintomas depressivos, duração da doença, MDS-UPDRS IV e tempo gasto com discinesia. Uma correlação positiva foi encontrada com a idade de início dos sintomas da DP. Conclusões O presente estudo fornece um possível papel dos níveis séricos de AU na LID presente em pacientes com DP.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the detection of subsolid nodules (SSNs) on chest CT scans of outpatients before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to correlate the imaging findings with epidemiological data. We hypothesized that (pre)malignant nonsolid nodules were underdiagnosed during the COVID-19 pandemic because of an overlap of imaging findings between SSNs and COVID-19 pneumonia. Methods: This was a retrospective study including all chest CT scans performed in adult outpatients (> 18 years of age) in September of 2019 (i.e., before the COVID-19 pandemic) and in September of 2020 (i.e., during the COVID-19 pandemic). The images were reviewed by a thoracic radiologist, and epidemiological data were collected from patient-filled questionnaires and clinical referrals. Regression models were used in order to control for confounding factors. Results: A total of 650 and 760 chest CT scans were reviewed for the 2019 and 2020 samples, respectively. SSNs were found in 10.6% of the patients in the 2019 sample and in 7.9% of those in the 2020 sample (p = 0.10). Multiple SSNs were found in 23 and 11 of the patients in the 2019 and 2020 samples, respectively. Women constituted the majority of the study population. The mean age was 62.8 ± 14.8 years in the 2019 sample and 59.5 ± 15.1 years in the 2020 sample (p < 0.01). COVID-19 accounted for 24% of all referrals for CT examination in 2020. Conclusions: Fewer SSNs were detected on chest CT scans of outpatients during the COVID-19 pandemic than before the pandemic, although the difference was not significant. In addition to COVID-19, the major difference between the 2019 and 2020 samples was the younger age in the 2020 sample. We can assume that fewer SSNs will be detected in a population with a higher proportion of COVID-19 suspicion or diagnosis.

RESUMO Objetivo: Investigar a detecção de nódulos subsólidos na TC de tórax de pacientes ambulatoriais antes e durante a pandemia de COVID-19, bem como correlacionar os achados de imagem com dados epidemiológicos. Nossa hipótese foi a de que nódulos não sólidos (pré) malignos foram subdiagnosticados durante a pandemia de COVID-19 em virtude da sobreposição de achados de imagem de nódulos subsólidos e pneumonia por COVID-19. Métodos: Estudo retrospectivo no qual foram incluídas todas as imagens de TC de tórax realizadas em pacientes ambulatoriais adultos (com idade > 18 anos) em setembro de 2019 (antes da pandemia de COVID-19) e em setembro de 2020 (durante a pandemia de COVID-19). As imagens foram reavaliadas por um radiologista torácico, e os dados epidemiológicos foram extraídos de questionários preenchidos pelos pacientes e de encaminhamentos clínicos. Modelos de regressão foram usados para controlar fatores de confusão. Resultados: Foram reavaliadas 650 e 760 imagens de TC de tórax nas amostras de 2019 e 2020, respectivamente. Foram encontrados nódulos subsólidos em 10,6% dos pacientes que compuseram a amostra de 2019 e em 7,9% daqueles que compuseram a amostra de 2020 (p = 0,10). Nódulos subsólidos múltiplos foram encontrados em 23 e 11 dos pacientes que compuseram as amostras de 2019 e 2020, respectivamente. As mulheres constituíram a maioria da população do estudo. A média de idade foi de 62,8 ± 14,8 anos na amostra de 2019 e de 59,5 ± 15,1 anos na amostra de 2020 (p < 0,01). A COVID-19 foi responsável por 24% de todos os encaminhamentos para a realização de TC em 2020. Conclusões: Foram detectados menos nódulos subsólidos na TC de tórax de pacientes ambulatoriais durante a pandemia de COVID-19 do que antes da pandemia, embora a diferença não tenha sido significativa. Além da COVID-19, a principal diferença entre as amostras de 2019 e 2020 foi o fato de que a amostra de 2020 era mais jovem. Podemos supor que menos nódulos subsólidos serão detectados numa população com maior proporção de suspeita ou diagnóstico de COVID-19.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate whether family participation in intensive care unit interdisciplinary bedside rounds affects family satisfaction. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a 56-bed, adult, mixed intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital in Southern Brazil. From May to June 2019, family members of patients who stayed in the intensive care unit for at least 48 hours were invited to participate in the study at the time of patient discharge. The main exposure variable was participation in intensive care unit bedside rounds during the intensive care unit stay. Family satisfaction was assessed by using the Brazilian version of the Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit questionnaire. Results: Of the 234 screened individuals, 118 were included. Eleven participants withdrew consent. A total of 107 individuals were assessed; 58 (54%) reported being present during bedside rounds, and 49 (46%) reported never being present. General satisfaction and satisfaction with the decision-making process were higher among families who were present during rounds than among families who were not (p = 0.01 and p = 0.007, respectively). Conclusion: The presence during interdisciplinary rounds was associated with improved general satisfaction and satisfaction with the decision-making aspect. This outcome indicates that efforts must be directed to conduct studies with more robust methodologies to confirm this association.

RESUMO Objetivo: Investigar se a participação da família em rodadas interdisciplinares à beira do leito da unidade de terapia intensiva afeta a satisfação familiar. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal em uma unidade de terapia intensiva adulto mista com 56 leitos de hospital terciário no Sul do Brasil. De maio a junho de 2019, os familiares de pacientes internados na unidade de terapia intensiva por, pelo menos, 48 horas foram convidados a participar do estudo no momento da alta do paciente. A principal variável de exposição foi a participação em rodadas à beira do leito na unidade de terapia intensiva durante a internação na unidade de terapia intensiva. A satisfação familiar foi avaliada por meio da versão brasileira do Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit. Resultados: Dos 234 indivíduos selecionados, 118 foram incluídos. Destes, 11 participantes retiraram o consentimento. Foram avaliados 107 indivíduos; 58 (54%) relataram estar presentes durante as rodadas à beira do leito, e 49 (46%) relataram nunca estar presentes. A satisfação geral e a satisfação com o processo de tomada de decisão foram maiores entre as famílias presentes durante as rodadas do que entre as famílias ausentes (p = 0,01 e p = 0,007, respectivamente). Conclusão: A presença durante as rodadas interdisciplinares foi associada à melhora da satisfação geral e satisfação em relação ao processo de tomada de decisão. Esse desfecho indica que, para confirmar essa associação, devem-se direcionar esforços para realizar estudos com metodologias mais robustas.

ABSTRACT Studies have shown that Zamac containing coatings obtained by electroplating, used as sanitary metal, has low resistance to corrosion, which was attributed to the formation of porosity in the alloy due to the pressure injection process. In this case, the electrodeposited coatings do not satisfactorily cover the surface porosity of the Zamac injected under pressure. Research has shown that zamac anodizing has minimized or closed these porosities. This work aims to verify the behavior of electrodeposited layers in zamac samples with and without anodization. For this, Zamac samples were anodized in 0.3 M oxalic acid electrolyte, with process parameters of 100 V, 10 mA/cm2, for 300 s, in a source of potential × current (300 V, 500 mA) and subsequently electrodeposited in alkaline copper, acid copper, nickel and chromium baths. The samples were evaluated by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) by top analyses, cross section and by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy - EDS. The results showed that the anodizing process allows for better leveling of the alkaline copper and acid copper coating electrodeposited in Zamac, impacting final coatings (up to chrome electrodeposition) with greater thickness when compared to those obtained in the industrial process.

RESUMO Estudos mostraram que o Zamac contendo revestimentos obtidos por eletrodeposição, utilizado como metal sanitário, apresenta baixa resistência à corrosão, o que foi atribuído à formação de porosidade na liga devido ao processo de obtenção por injeção sob pressão. Nesse caso, os revestimentos eletrodepositados não cobrem satisfatoriamente a porosidade superficial do Zamac injetado sob pressão. Pesquisas mostraram que a anodização em zamac tem minimizado ou fechado essas porosidades. Este trabalho tem por objetivo verificar o comportamento das camadas eletrodepositadas em amostras de zamac sem e com anodização. Para tanto, amostras de Zamac foram anodizadas em eletrólito de ácido oxálico 0,3 M, com parâmetros de processo de 100 V, 10 mA/ cm2, por 300 s, em uma fonte de potencial × corrente (300 V, 500 mA) e posteriormente eletrodepositadas em banhos de cobre alcalino, cobre ácido, níquel e cromo. As amostras foram avaliadas ao MEV (Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura) por análises de topo, seção transversal e por Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy- EDS. Os resultados mostraram que o processo de anodização permite melhor nivelamento do revestimento de cobre alcalino e cobre ácido eletrodepositados no Zamac, impactando em revestimentos finais (até a eletrodeposição de cromo) com maior espessura quando comparados aos obtidos no processo industrial.

ABSTRACT In the present study, we examine the manner in which firms’ experiential learning in challenging institutional environments shapes their entry strategies in subsequent international acquisitions targeting comparable contexts. Specifically, our research delineates the nexus between the institutional expertise firms garner from operations in countries characterized by deficient institutional frameworks and the level of ownership they subsequently elect in acquisitions within similarly constituted environments. Utilizing a dataset comprised of 3,577 cross-border acquisitions aimed at emerging markets, spanning the period from 2010 to 2019, we find that institutional experience serves as a moderating variable. This moderation influences the impact of corruption, economic freedom, and political stability on the proportion of ownership stakes acquired during the transaction. While firms are generally inclined to augment their ownership levels in acquisitions where the institutional environment is more favorable, our findings paradoxically reveal that institutional experience amplifies, rather than mitigates, the relationship between extant institutional conditions and the chosen level of ownership, contrary to our initial hypotheses.

Resumen El accidente cerebrovascular (ACV) constituye la principal causa de discapacidad de origen neuro- lógico en los adultos mayores a 40 años y la cuarta causa de muerte en Argentina. En los últimos diez años las publicaciones indexadas relacionadas al tratamiento del ACV isquémico fueron más numerosas que las de ACV hemorrágico. El objetivo de este material es proporcionar recomendaciones locales y actualiza- das del abordaje de pacientes con hematoma intraparenquimatoso espontáneo durante la internación. Para la redacción de este manuscrito se convocó a especialistas en esta enfermedad que conformaron grupos de trabajo. Se plantearon 10 tópicos centrales expresados como epidemiologia, atención inicial, imágenes, tratamiento de la presión arterial, reversión de antitrombóticos, indicación de cirugía, profilaxis anticonvulsivante, pronóstico, prevención de complicaciones y reinicio de antitrombóticos. De cada tópico se plantearon mediante preguntas PICO los interrogantes más frecuentes de la práctica diaria. Luego de una revisión sistemática de la literatura, se generaron recomendaciones evaluadas mediante sistema GRADE y consensuadas entre autores y pacientes.

Abstract Stroke is the leading cause of neurological disability in people over 40 years of age and the fourth leading cause of death in Argentina. In the last ten years, the indexed publications related to the treatment of ischemic stroke were more numerous than those of hemorrhagic stroke. The objective of this material is to provide local and updated recommendations for the management of patients with spontaneous intracere- bral hemorrhage during hospitalization. For the writing of this manuscript, diferent specialists were convened to form working groups. Ten central topics expressed as epidemiology, initial care, imaging, blood pressure treatment, reversal of antithrombotics, indication for surgery, seizure prophylaxis, prognosis, prevention of complications and resumption of antithrombotics were raised. For each topic, the most frequent questions of daily practice were raised through PICO questions. After a systematic review of the literature, recommendations were generated, evaluated using the GRADE system and agreed between authors and patients.

Abstract Background Depression is an important nonmotor symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) and has been associated with the motor symptoms in these individuals. Objectives To determine whether there are relationships between depressive symptoms and abnormalities in axial postural alignment and axial motor deficits, especially postural instability, and trunk rigidity in PD. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 65 individuals were evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) for the analysis of depressive symptoms and underwent a postural assessment of head, trunk, and hip sagittal alignment through computerized photogrammetry. The MDS-UPDRS was used to assess clinical aspects of PD, the Trunk Mobility Scale was used to assess axial rigidity, and the MiniBESTest to assess balance. To determine the relationship between depressive symptoms and postural alignment, multiple linear regression analysis was performed. Results The participants with depressive symptoms had more severe motor deficits as well as greater trunk rigidity and worse postural instability (p < 0.05). When the postural angles were compared between men and women using Student's t-test, it was found that men had greater flexion angles of the head (p = 0.003) and trunk (p = 0.017). Using multiple linear regression analysis corrected for the age and sex of the participants, we verified that the anterior trunk inclination was significantly larger in the PD population with depressive symptoms (R2 = 0.453, β = 0.116, and p = 0.045). Conclusion PD individuals with depressive symptoms have more severe flexed trunk posture, mainly in older men. Additionally, more severe depressive symptoms are associated with worsening postural instability, trunk rigidity and motor deficits in this population.

Resumo Antecedentes A depressão é um sintoma não motor importante da doença de Parkinson (DP) e tem sido associada aos sintomas motores nesses indivíduos. Objetivos Determinar se existem relações entre sintomas depressivos e anormalidades no alinhamento postural axial e déficits motores axiais, especialmente instabilidade postural e rigidez de tronco na DP. Métodos Neste estudo transversal, 65 indivíduos foram avaliados pelo BDI-II para análise de sintomas depressivos e submetidos à avaliação postural do alinhamento sagital de cabeça, tronco e quadril por meio de fotogrametria computadorizada. A MDS-UPDRS avaliou os aspectos clínicos, TMS avaliou rigidez axial e o MiniBESTest equilíbrio. Para determinar a relação entre sintomas depressivos e alinhamento postural, realizou-se uma análise de regressão linear múltipla. Resultados Os participantes com sintomas depressivos apresentaram déficits motores mais graves, bem como maior rigidez de tronco e pior instabilidade postural (p < 0,05). Quando comparados os ângulos posturais entre homens e mulheres pelo teste t de Student, verificou-se que os homens apresentaram maiores graus de flexão da cabeça (p = 0,003) e do tronco (p = 0,017). Por meio da análise de regressão linear múltipla corrigida para a idade e sexo dos participantes, verificamos que a inclinação anterior do tronco foi significativamente maior nos indivíduos com DP com sintomas depressivos do que sem sintomas depressivos (R2 = 0,453, β = 0,116 e p = 0,045) Conclusão Indivíduos com DP com sintomas depressivos apresentam postura de tronco flexionado mais severa, principalmente em homens mais idosos. Além disso, os sintomas depressivos mais graves pioram significativamente a instabilidade postural, a rigidez do tronco e os déficits motores nessa população.

Resumo O artigo objetiva caracterizar o estágio atual dos sistemas prediais hidráulicos e sanitários (SPHS) frente à NBR 15575-6 e analisar os critérios de desempenho a fim de fornecer subsídios para projetistas, construtores e revisão da norma. O método contemplou cinco etapas: análise do cumprimento à norma por projetistas e construtoras, análise das informações fornecidas pelos fabricantes sobre durabilidade, coleta de dados de manifestações patológicas em SPHS, execução de ensaios in loco de responsabilidade da construtora, e análise dos critérios de desempenho. Os resultados indicam que as construtoras possuem baixo percentual de cumprimento da NBR 15575-6, enquanto os projetistas apresentam percentual maior. Quanto aos fabricantes, apenas 10% fornecem dados precisos de durabilidade de produtos. Quanto às manifestações patológicas, as mais recorrentes são vazamentos em bacias sanitárias, torneiras e chuveiros, e retornos de odores e espuma nas caixas sifonadas/ralos. Quanto aos ensaios, alguns são exequíveis, porém há dificuldades nos ensaios de estanqueidade das instalações de água quente e de esgoto sanitário e águas pluviais. Por fim, a principal contribuição está na identificação e discussão de critérios da norma que geram dúvidas na interpretação e aplicação.

Abstract The aim of this article is to characterise the current stage of plumbing systems concerning NBR 15575-6 and analyse the performance criteria to provide information to the designers, builders, and for the standard’s review. The method included five steps: analysing the compliance with the standard by designers and builders, analysing the information provided by manufacturers about durability, data collection of pathological manifestations in plumbing systems, conducting on-site tests that are responsibility of the builder and analysing the performance criteria. The results indicate that construction companies have a low conformity index with NBR 15575-6, and designers have a higher conformity index. As for manufacturers, only 10% provide accurate product durability data. With regards to pathological manifestations, the most recurrent ones are leaks in toilets, taps, showers, and odours and foam returns in the plumbing traps/drains. As for the tests, they are feasible, but there are difficulties in the tightness tests for the hot water, sanitary sewage and rainwater installations. The main contribution of this study is the identification and discussion of the standard’s criteria that generate doubts in their interpretation and application.

RESUMO Com a crescente demanda de edificações, torna-se cada vez mais necessário que as atividades de conservação e manutenção dos sistemas prediais sejam especificadas e cumpridas adequadamente. Esta pesquisa é uma revisão sistemática da literatura sobre a importância, as consequências e o desempenho quanto a manutenção nos Sistemas Prediais Hidráulicos e Sanitários (SPHS). As buscas pelos artigos foram realizadas no Portal de Periódicos CAPES abrangendo o período de 2007 a 2017. Foram encontrados 252 artigos, mas, com base no tema, apenas 26 foram selecionados. O conteúdo dos artigos foi discutido em cinco questões de pesquisa, abordando as manifestações patológicas nos SPHS, a manutenção predial e as ferramentas de avaliação de desempenho e suscetibilidade a riscos desses sistemas. Observou-se que as manifestações patológicas nos SPHS são frequentes, principalmente vazamentos, os quais geram custos financeiros, emocionais e de tempo para os usuários. Além disso, muitas dessas manifestações patológicas estão relacionadas à ausência ou falha na manutenção. Porém, a manutenção é muito influenciada por fatores como tipo de material, custos e expectativa dos usuários, sendo necessários programas eficientes de manutenção e equipes treinadas a fim de garantir o bom desempenho da edificação e seus sistemas. Ademais, algumas ferramentas têm sido desenvolvidas a fim de avaliar o desempenho dos sistemas prediais e a suscetibilidade a riscos, auxiliando na tomada de decisões de manutenções e concepção de projetos.

ABSTRACT With the increasing demand for buildings, it is necessary that conservation and maintenance practices of building systems be properly specified and fulfilled. This research is a systematic review of the literature about the importance, consequences, and performance of plumbing systems. The search for articles was carried out on the Portal de Periódicos Capes covering the period from 2007 to 2017. 252 articles were found, but, based on the topic, just 26 were selected. The content of the articles was discussed in five research questions, including failures in plumbing systems, building maintenance, and assessment tools for plumbing performance and susceptibility to risks. It was observed that the failures in plumbing systems are common, mainly problems with leaks, which result in financial, time, and emotional costs for users. In addition, many of these pathological manifestations are related to the absence or failure of maintenance. However, maintenance is greatly influenced by factors such as material type, costs, and user expectations, requiring efficient maintenance programs and qualified teams to ensure the performance of the building and its systems. In addition, some tools have been developed in order to assess the building systems performance and susceptibility to risks, helping in the decision-making of maintenance and design phase.

Abstract Objective: To assess intra- and interobserver agreement among non-expert pathologists in identifying features of the eosinophilic esophagitis histologic scoring system (EoEHSS) in pediatric patients. Patients and methods: The authors used 50 slides from patients (aged 1-15 years; 72% male) with EoE. EoEHSS evaluates eosinophilic inflammation and other features including epithelial basal zone hyperplasia, eosinophilic abscesses, eosinophil surface layering, dilated intercellular spaces, surface epithelial alteration, dyskeratotic epithelial cells, and lamina propria fibrosis. Grade and stage of abnormalities are scored using a 4-point scale (0 normal; 3 maximum change). Four pathologists determined EoEHSS findings on two occasions. Intra- and interobserver agreement was assessed using Kappa (κ) statistics and intra-class correlation coefficients. Results: Intra- and interobserver agreement for the identification of eosinophil counts ≥ 15/high power field (HPF) was excellent, however varied when assessing additional features of the EoEHSS. For the more experienced pathologist, agreement for most EoEHSS items and the composite scores was substantial to excellent. For the less experienced pathologists, intraobserver agreement ranged from absent to substantial for individual features and ranged from moderate to substantial for the composite scores. Conclusion: Most items of the EoEHSS had substantial to excellent reliability when assessed by a pathologist experienced in the diagnosis of EoE but presented lower repeatability among less experienced pathologists. These findings suggest that specific training of pathologists is required for the identification of EoEHSS characteristics beyond eosinophil count, as these features are considered useful in the evaluation of response to treatment and correlation with clinical manifestations and endoscopic findings.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a capacidade do Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos para predizer a melhora do estado funcional físico em longo prazo de pacientes sobreviventes à unidade de terapia intensiva. Métodos: Foram avaliados, de forma prospectiva, entre fevereiro de 2017 e agosto de 2018, em um ambulatório pós-unidade de terapia intensiva, 32 sobreviventes à unidade de terapia intensiva. Foram inscritos consecutivamente os pacientes com permanência na unidade de terapia intensiva acima de 72 horas (para admissões emergenciais) ou acima de 120 horas (para admissões eletivas) que compareceram ao ambulatório pós-unidade de terapia intensiva 4 meses após receberem alta da unidade de terapia intensiva. A associação entre a distância percorrida no Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos realizado na avaliação inicial e a evolução do estado funcional físico foi avaliada durante 8 meses, com utilização do Índice de Barthel. Resultados: A distância média percorrida no Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos foi significantemente mais baixa nos sobreviventes à unidade de terapia intensiva do que na população geral (405m versus 557m; p < 0,001). A idade (β = -4,0; p < 0,001) e a fraqueza muscular (β = -99,7; p = 0,02) se associaram com a distância percorrida no Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos. A distância percorrida no Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos se associou com melhora do estado funcional físico no período de 8 meses de acompanhamento desses pacientes (razão de chance para cada 10m: 1,07; IC95% 1,01 - 1,16; p = 0,03). A área sob a curva Característica de Operação do Receptor para predição da melhora funcional física pelo Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos foi de 0,72 (IC95% 0,53 - 0,88). Conclusão: O Teste de Caminhada de 6 Minutos, realizado 4 meses após a alta da unidade de terapia intensiva, predisse com precisão moderada a melhora do estado funcional físico de sobreviventes à unidade de terapia intensiva.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the ability of the 6-Minute Walk Test to predict long-term physical functional status improvement among intensive care unit survivors. Methods: Thirty-two intensive care unit survivors were prospectively evaluated from February 2017 to August 2018 in a post-intensive care unit outpatient clinic in Brazil. Individuals with intensive care unit stays > 72 hours (emergency admissions) or > 120 hours (elective admissions) attending the post-intensive care unit clinic four months after intensive care unit discharge were consecutively enrolled. The association between the 6-Minute Walk Test distance at baseline and physical functional status was assessed over 8 months using the Barthel Index. Results: The mean 6-Minute Walk Test distance was significantly lower in intensive care unit survivors than in the general population (405m versus 557m; p < 0.001). Age (β = -4.0; p < 0.001) and muscle weakness (β = -99.7; p = 0.02) were associated with the 6-Minute Walk Test distance. A 6-Minute Walk Test distance was associated with improvement in physical functional status over the 8-month follow-up (odds ratio for each 10m of 1.07; 95%CI 1.01 - 1.16; p = 0.03). The area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve for the 6-Minute Walk Test prediction of physical functional status improvement was 0.72 (95%CI 0.53 - 0.88). Conclusion: The 6-Minute Walk Test performed 4 months after intensive care unit discharge predicted long-term physical functional status among intensive care unit survivors with moderate accuracy.

Resumen: Este artículo busca comprender la influencia de la relación profesor-alumno en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje en Ciencias y Matemáticas. Se basa en el paradigma fenomenológico de la investigación cualitativa, caracterizado como un estudio de caso. Se aplicó un cuestionario a 11 profesores de Ciencias y Matemáticas y el método de análisis adoptado fue el Análisis Textual Discursivo. Como resultados se obtuvieron tres categorías finales: i) la comunicación es un elemento que interfiere en la relación maestro-alumno, beneficiando o perjudicando el aprendizaje; ii) la afectividad influye en la relación profesor-alumno; iii) el compromiso docente influye en la relación con el alumno. Las categorías abordan reflexiones sobre la relación profesor-alumno, como la necesidad de comunicación, la importancia de la implicación emocional y la importancia del compromiso del profesor en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje.

Abstract: This article seeks to understand the influence of the teacher-student relationship on the teaching and learning processes in Science and Mathematics. It is based on the phenomenological paradigm of qualitative research, characterized as a case study. A questionnaire was applied to 11 Science and Mathematics teachers and the method of analysis adopted was the Discursive Textual Analysis. As results, three final categories were obtained: i) communication is an element that interferes in the teacher-student relationship, benefiting or impairing learning; ii) affectivity influences the teacher-student relationship; iii) the teaching commitment influences the relationship with the student. The categories address reflections on the teacher-student relationship, such as the need for communication, the importance of emotional involvement and the importance of teacher commitment in the teaching and learning processes.

Resumo: Este artigo busca compreender a influência da relação professor-estudante nos processos de ensino e aprendizagem em Ciências e Matemática. Apoia-se no paradigma fenomenológico da pesquisa qualitativa, caracterizando-se como um estudo de caso. Foi aplicado um questionário a 11 professores de Ciências e Matemática e o método de análise adotado foi a Análise Textual Discursiva. Enquanto resultados, obteve-se três categorias finais, sendo elas: i) a comunicação é elemento que interfere na relação professor-estudante, beneficiando ou prejudicando a aprendizagem; ii) a afetividade influencia a relação entre professor-estudante; iii) o comprometimento docente influencia na relação com o estudante. As categorias abordam reflexões sobre a relação professor-estudante, como a necessidade de comunicação, a importância do envolvimento emocional e a importância do comprometimento docente nos processos de ensino e aprendizagem.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to obtain and characterize bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes obtained by cultivating Komagataeibacter hansenii ATCC 23769 using mannitol, glucose, fructose, lactose, glycerol, inulin, and sucrose as carbon sources, and corn steep liquor and Prodex Lac® as alternative sources of nitrogen. The formation of the BC´s gelatinous membrane was monitored for 12 days under static conditions and a temperature of 30 ºC. After purification, the membranes were dried and characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The highest BC concentrations were found in the culture medium containing Prodex Lac® as the source of nitrogen. Among sugars, fructose and mannitol presented the best results. TGA analyzes indicate that all membranes have similar thermal behavior. The FTIR results show that the chemically synthesized membranes are equivalent to the structures cited in the literature. The micrographs obtained by SEM showed that the medium might influence BC´s morphology, but in general, all presented nanofibers, an essential feature in the membrane. Thus, the BC membranes synthesized in this study proved that the BC production using low-cost alternative means is feasible. The material obtained meets the expected thermal, physical, and chemical properties.

Resumo Objetivo: A enzima cardioprotetora Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) sofre importante influência de polimorfismos genéticos e fatores nutricionais. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a influência da alimentação, do estado nutricional e do polimorfismo C(-107)T sobre a atividade arilesterase da PON1 em crianças. Métodos: Estudo transversal com 97 crianças entre 5 e 8 anos, de ambos os sexos, de um ambulatório de pediatria no sul do Brasil. Realizou-se questionário sociodemográfico, de comportamento e de consumo alimentar, medidas antropométricas e coleta de sangue em laboratório. A atividade arilesterase da PON1 foi mensurada pela extinção de fenol (U/mL), realizada extração do DNA e análise do polimorfismo PON1 C(-107)T. O equilíbrio de Hardy-Weinberg foi testado com qui-quadrado e usada regressão linear para estimar a atividade da PON1 segundo quatro modelos de ajuste, erro aceitável de 5%. Resultados: Na amostra o sexo masculino representou 50,5%, 39,2% tinham 6 anos, 54,5% eram eutróficos e 51,5% tinha atividade da PON1 inferior à mediana (90,0;15-30 U/ml). A frequência dos genótipos foi 54,6% (53/97), 31,0% (30/97) e 14,4% (14/97), respectivamente, para CT, CC e TT, estiveram em equilíbrio de Hardy-Weinberg (p = 0,22). Na análise de regressão o modelo que incluiu variáveis sociodemográficas, de frequência do consumo de frutas, verduras, legumes, laticínios e feijões estimou uma variabilidade de 14,8% na atividade da PON1 combinada ao polimorfismo PON1 C(-107)T. Conclusões: Na infância uma alimentação de boa qualidade, com maior participação de alimentos saudáveis foi importante para predizer a atividade da enzima cardioprotetora PON1 combinada ao polimorfismo C(-107)T do gene da PON1.

Abstract Objective: The cardioprotective enzyme paraoxonase-1 (PON1) suffers an important influence from genetic polymorphisms and nutritional factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of diet, nutritional status, and the C(-107)T polymorphism on PON1 arylesterase activity in children. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 97 children, aged between 5 and 8 years, of both genders, from a pediatric outpatient clinic in southern Brazil. A sociodemographic, behavioral, and food consumption questionnaire was applied, and anthropometric measurements and laboratory blood samples were taken. PON1 arylesterase activity was measured by phenol extinction (U/mL), and DNA extraction and analysis of the PON1 C(-107)T polymorphism were performed. The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was tested with the chi-squared test and linear regression was used to estimate PON1 activity according to four adjustment models, with an acceptable error of 5%. Results: In the sample, the male gender accounted for 50.5%, 39.2% were 6 years of age, 54.5% had normal weight, and 51.5% had PON1 activity below the median (90.0, 15-30 U/mL). Genotype frequency was 54.6% (53/97), 31.0% (30/97), and 14.4% (14/97), respectively, for CT, CC, and TT, consistent with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p = 0.22). In the regression analysis, the model that included sociodemographic variables as well as frequency of consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes, dairy products, and beans estimated a variability of 14.8% in PON1 activity combined with the PON1 C(-107)T polymorphism. Conclusions: During childhood, a good-quality diet with greater inclusion of healthy foods was important to predict the activity of the cardioprotective enzyme PON1 combined with the C(-107)T polymorphism of the PON1 gene.

RESUMO: Este artigo apresenta o Simulador de Custo-Aluno Qualidade (SimCAQ) como instrumento de planejamento orçamentário, articulando tal discussão ao custo do financiamento da educação em condições de qualidade no Brasil. Trata-se de um sistema computacional online que gera informações sobre as seguintes questões: qual é o Custo-Aluno Qualidade (CAQ) nas etapas/modalidades da educação básica? Qual deve ser o orçamento da educação em cada município e estado para garantir o financiamento em condições de qualidade? Qual é o impacto da adoção do CAQ como valor de referência no montante total investido em educação básica em âmbito nacional? Com base na definição de 169 parâmetros denominados de padrão de qualidade de referência (PQR), as simulações para 2019 mostraram que o CAQ de cada etapa/modalidade seria consideravelmente superior aos valores do Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica e de Valorização dos Profissionais da Educação (Fundeb), além da necessidade de aumentar os recursos em 19,8%.

ABSTRACT: This article is offered as a Cost-Student Quality Simulator (Simulador de Custo-Aluno Qualidade - SimCAQ) as a guiding instrument for the study of price and education quality in Brazil. It is an online Computational system that produces information about the following questions: What is the Cost-Student Quality (CAQ) in the levels/exercises of basic education? What is the budget for education in each city and state to guarantee funding according to quality conditions? What is the impact of adopting a CAQ as reference value in the total amount of funding in basic education considering the national scenario? RESUMEN: Este artículo se presenta como un Simulador de Costo-Alumno Calidad (Simulador de Custo-Aluno Qualidade - SimCAQ) como instrumento guía para el estudio de precios y educación de calidad en Brasil. Es un sistema informático que genera información sobre las siguientes cuestiones: ¿Cuál es el Costo-Alumno Calidad (CAQ) en los diferentes niveles/ejercicios de educación básica? ¿Cuál es el presupuesto de educación en cada municipalidad y estado para garantizar un financiamiento de calidad? ¿Cuál es el impacto de la adopción del CAQ como valor de referencia en el total invertido en educación básica em el encenário? A partir de la definición de 169 parámetros llamados “Estándar de Calidad de Referencia” (PQR), las simulaciones para 2019 muestran el valor de 19,8%.
