ABSTRACT: This study estimated the growth of body, carcass, primal cuts, edible offal, and feathers of Japanese quail reared in two thermal environments, receiving three nutritional plans, from one to 39 days of age. A total of 576 one-day-old female chicks (Coturnix japonica) with an average initial weight of 7.51±0.75g/bird were evaluated in a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (three nutritional plans × two temperatures). The animals were housed in two climatic chambers, at 25 ºC and 35 ºC, using 12 replications with eight birds per experimental unit. Nutritional plans (NP) were as follows: NP1: one diet from 1-21days and another from 22-39 days; NP2: one diet from 1-14 days and another from 15-39 days; and NP3: a single diet from 1-39 days. The growth curves and growth rates of body, carcass, primal cuts, feathers, and edible offal were evaluated using the Gompertz mathematical model. Quail fed NP3 showed higher growth curves and rates for body, carcass, drumstick +thigh, and feather. There was an effect on maturity rate, which was lowest in quail housed at 35 ºC. Among the animals kept at 25 ºC, the group fed NP3 exhibited the highest growth rate and breast weight. The nutritional plan consisting of a single diet offered from 1 to 39 days, formulated based on the tables for Japanese and European quail, is the most suitable for estimating the growth curves (Gompertz model) of Japanese quail housed at 25 ºC or 35 ºC.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se estimar o crescimento corporal, carcaça, cortes nobres, vísceras comestíveis e penas de codornas japonesas criadas em dois ambientes térmicos e alimentadas com três planos nutricionais de um a 39 dias. Foram utilizadas 576 pintainhas (Coturnix japônica), fêmeas, com um dia de idade, com peso médio inicial 7,51 ± 0,75g/ave, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 3 × 2 (três planos nutricionais x duas temperaturas), alojadas em duas câmaras climáticas de 25º e 35 ºC, com 12 repetições e oito aves por unidade experimental. Os planos nutricionais foram: plano nutricional um (PN1) - uma dieta de 1-21 dias e uma dieta de 22-39 dias; plano nutricional dois (PN2) - uma dieta de 1-14 dias e uma dieta de 15-39 dias; e plano nutricional três (PN3) - dieta única de 1-39 dias. Foram avaliadas as curvas e taxas de crescimento corporal, carcaça, cortes nobres, penas e vísceras comestíveis, através do modelo matemático de Gompertz. Codornas alimentadas com PN3 apresentaram maiores curvas e taxas de crescimento corporal, de carcaça, coxa + sobrecoxa e penas. Houve efeito para taxa de maturidade, sendo inferior para codornas alojadas em 35 ºC. Nas aves mantidas em 25 ºC, observou-se maior taxa de crescimento e peso de peito nas codornas alimentadas com PN3. O plano nutricional composto por uma única dieta ofertada durante o período de um a 39 dias, formulado com base nas recomendações das tabelas para codornas japonesas e europeias, é o mais indicado para estimar curvas de crescimento no modelo de Gompertz de codornas japonesas alojadas em 25 ºC ou 35 ºC.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to produce mechanically separated meat (MSM) from tilapia obtained at the Teresina fish market in the state of Piauí, Brazil. Waste production and disposal and yields were estimated, and physico-chemical and microbiological MSM qualities were determined. A questionnaire was applied to the fish market sellers, followed by tilapia carcass sampling for MSM production and assessments concerning yields, microbiological (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus coagulase positive counts and the detection of Salmonella spp.) and physicochemical (water activity, pH, reaction to hydrogen sulfide and ammonia) quality and proximate composition (moisture, ash, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and total energy value). The questionnaire results indicated that tilapia is highly in demand and thats processing leads to significant waste. The yield analysis indicated that tilapia MSM presents adequate residual meat extraction rates from tilapia carcasses. All microbiological analyses were in compliance with Brazilian standards. Physicochemical results were as follows: protein (14.9 to 16.1%), lipids (16.6 to 22.1%), ash (1.3 to 2.8%), moisture (60.6 to 64 .1%), carbohydrates (0.6 to 1.5%) and calories (216.5 to 263.1 kcal 100-1). It is, therefore, clear that MSM constitutes a safe and nutritious foodstudd and comprises a viable alternative for the development of co-products.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com esse estudo avaliar de forma comparativa a influência de diferentes fontes de PUFAS na dieta sobre o desempenho, rendimento de carcaça, composição química e características físicas da carne do peito de codornas europeias. Foram utilizadas 280 codornas europeias, peso médio 90,97 ± 0,5 g, durante período de crescimento, compreendido de 14 a 42 dias de idade, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso com sete tratamentos, e cinco repetições com 8 aves cada. As codornas foram alimentadas com rações contendo 2% das seguintes fontes e misturas lipídicas: 1. Óleo de soja (SBO); 2. Óleo de linhaça (LSO); 3. Óleo de castanha- doPará (BNO); 4. Óleo de peixe (FSO); 5. LSO+SBO; 6. BNO+SBO; e 7. FSO+SBO. Foram avaliadas as medidas de desempenho, rendimento de carcaça e características de qualidade de carne (composição química, pH, perda por centrifugação, perda de peso por cocção, força de cisalhamento e cor). As medidas de desempenho (ganho de peso, consumo de ração e conversão alimentar) foram influenciadas pelas fontes lipídicas. A dieta FSO apresentou melhor desempenho. As codornas alimentadas com as dietas BNO (18,27 g/ave/dia), LSO (17,58 g/ave/dia) apresentaram maior consumo de ração. O rendimento de carcaça e a composição química da carne não apresentaram diferença significativa (P > 0,05), enquanto que as características químicas e físicas apresentaram diferença entre as fontes lipídicas suplementadas na dieta. A adição de fontes de ácidos graxos poli-insaturados não causaram efeitos prejudiciais às aves e alterações indesejáveis à qualidade de carne.

ABSTRACT The aim o f this study was to carry out a comparative evaluation of the effect of adding different sources of PUFAS to the diet on performance, carcass yield, chemical composition, and the physical characteristics of breast meat from European quail. A tot al of 280 European quail with a mean weight of 90.97 ± 0.5 g, during the growth period and ranging from 14 to 42 days of age, were distributed in a completely randomised design with seven treatments, and five replications of eight birds each. The quail were fed on diets containing 2% of the following lipid sources and mixtures: 1. Soybean oil (SBO); 2. Linseed oil (LSO); 3. Brazil Nut Oil (BNO); 4. Fish oil (FSO); 5. LSO+SBO; 6. BNO+SBO; and 7. FSO+SBO. Performance measures, such as carcass yield and meat quality (chemical composition, pH, centrifugation loss, weight loss by cooking, shear strength and colour) were evaluated. The performance measures (weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion) were influenced by the source of lipids. The FSO diet showed better performance. Quails fed on the BNO (18.27 g/bird/day) and LSO (17.58 g/bird/day) diets had a higher feed intake. Carcass yield and the chemical composition of the meat showed no significant differences (P > 0.05), while the chemical and physical characteristics showed differences between the lipid sources added to the diet. The addition of sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids caused no harmful effects to the birds or undesirable changes in meat quality.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate whether replacing corn starch (CS) energy with isolated soy protein (ISP) and soybean oil (SO) and the ambient temperature affect the protein and energy requirements for maintenance and gain of European quail. Thus, a total of 432 European quail from 10 to 30 days of age, distributed in a completely randomized design, were used to estimate the protein and energy requirements for maintenance through the comparative slaughter methodology. The treatments consisted of three diets formulated with the replacement of CS, corresponding to 15% of the metabolizable energy in the diet, with ISP and SO, two controlled temperatures (26 and 35 °C), and three levels of feed supply (ad libitum, and 70 and 40% of ad libitum intake), with four replicates of six birds. Protein and energy requirements for weight gain were determined from 160 European quail, slaughtered every five days at 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 days of age. Birds were housed in four groups of 40 birds in a room with thermoneutral temperature (26 °C). The energy sources of the feed and temperatures studied affected protein and energy requirements for maintenance and gain of European quail. Replacing CS energy by 15% of dietary energy with SO results in lower protein and energy maintenance requirements for European quail at both temperatures. The protein and energy weight gain requirements of quail fed SO as an energy source is higher than CS and ISP.

OBJECTIVES: This observational, cross-sectional study based aimed to test whether heart failure (HF)-disease management program (DMP) components are influencing care and clinical decision-making in Brazil. METHODS: The survey respondents were cardiologists recommended by experts in the field and invited to participate in the survey via printed form or email. The survey consisted of 29 questions addressing site demographics, public versus private infrastructure, HF baseline data of patients, clinical management of HF, performance indicators, and perceptions about HF treatment. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 98 centers (58% public and 42% private practice) distributed across Brazil. Public HF-DMPs compared to private HF-DMP were associated with a higher percentage of HF-DMP-dedicated services (79% vs 24%; OR: 12, 95% CI: 94-34), multidisciplinary HF (MHF)-DMP [84% vs 65%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-8), HF educational programs (49% vs 18%; OR: 4; 95% CI: 1-2), written instructions before hospital discharge (83% vs 76%; OR: 1; 95% CI: 0-5), rehabilitation (69% vs 39%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), monitoring (44% vs 29%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-5), guideline-directed medical therapy-HF use (94% vs 85%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15), and less B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) dosage (73% vs 88%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), and key performance indicators (37% vs 60%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-7). In comparison to non- MHF-DMP, MHF-DMP was associated with more educational initiatives (42% vs 6%; OR: 12; 95% CI: 1-97), written instructions (83% vs 68%; OR: 2: 95% CI: 1-7), rehabilitation (69% vs 17%; OR: 11; 95% CI: 3-44), monitoring (47% vs 6%; OR: 14; 95% CI: 2-115), GDMT-HF (92% vs 83%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15). In addition, there were less use of BNP as a biomarker (70% vs 84%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-8) and key performance indicators (35% vs 51%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 91,6) in the non-MHF group. Physicians considered changing or introducing new medications mostly when patients were hospitalized or when observing worsening disease and/or symptoms. Adherence to drug treatment and non-drug treatment factors were the greatest medical problems associated with HF treatment. CONCLUSION: HF-DMPs are highly heterogeneous. New strategies for HF care should consider the present study highlights and clinical decision-making processes to improve HF patient care.

Resumo Os tumores ósseos, primários ou secundários, podem se manifestar de várias formas, desde dor óssea até fraturas patológicas. A preocupação maior repousa sobre tumores hipervascularizados, com maior incidência de complicações. A embolização pré-operatória do tumor ósseo é uma medida eficaz para reduzir a perda sanguínea durante a exérese tumoral em cirurgia aberta. Com uma experiência apropriada, os riscos do procedimento são mínimos, com resultados finais bastante satisfatórios. O presente artigo tem por finalidade descrever o caso de um paciente do sexo masculino, de 43 anos, com tumor metastático de células renais em fêmur proximal esquerdo (visualizado por angiotomografia de membro inferior), submetido à embolização arterial seletiva pré-operatória. O procedimento resultou em ausência de sangramento e ótima resposta à cirurgia onco-ortopédica realizada.

Abstract Primary or secondary bone tumors can manifest in different ways, from simple bone pain to possible pathological fractures. Hypervascularized tumors are of greatest concern, with increased incidence of complications. Preoperative embolization of the bone tumor is an effective measure for reducing blood loss during open surgery to excise the tumor. With appropriate experience, the risks of the procedure are minimal and final outcomes are highly satisfactory. The purpose of this paper is to describe the case of a 43-year-old male patient with a metastatic renal cell tumor in the left proximal femur (seen on lower limb computed tomography) who underwent selective preoperative embolization. The procedure resulted in a remarkable absence of bleeding and successful response to subsequent onco-orthopedic surgery.

Abstract Introduction: currently, regular physical exercise is the best tool available to promote people’s well-being and improve their health. Objective: the objective of the study was to determine the level of physical condition and nutritional status, as well as the relationship between them, in elementary school students in the city of Chillán. Methods: the study is of the descriptive, cross-sectional, relational type. A total of 2500 students participated. To evaluate physical condition, the followingtests were used: Wells and Dillons (flexibility), Sargent Test (lower limb power), AAPHARD’s 1-Mile Test (cardiorespiratory resistance), and Sit-ups in 30 seconds (localized muscular resistance). Results: when comparing by sex, men presented significant statistical differences in the physical variables of aerobic capacity (p = 0.00), sit-ups (p = 0.00) and jumping (p = 0.00); only in the case of flexibility did women present better results (p = 0.01). When relating BMI to physical capacity a negative relationship is observed in both sexes—that is, the higher the BMI, the lower the amount of sit-ups (r = -0.032; r = -0.084, women and men, respectively) and aerobic capacity (r = -0.063 and r = -0.023, women and men, respectively). In flexibility and jump a positive though negligible correlation was observed. Conclusion: normal-weight men and women have a better physical condition as compared to those with overweight or obesity. As for sex, men have a better physical condition except for the flexibility test, where women obtain the best results. In addition, a negative relationship is observed in both sexes between physical condition and body composition, where a high BMI results in a low level of physical performance.

Resumen Introducción: actualmente, el ejercicio físico practicado de manera regular es la mejor herramienta disponible para fomentar el bienestar de las personas y una mejor salud. Objetivo: el objetivo del estudio fue determinar el nivel de condición física y el estado nutricional, así como la relación entre estos, en estudiantes de enseñanza básica de la ciudad de Chillán. Métodos: el estudio es de tipo descriptivo, de corte transversal y relacional. Participaron 2500 estudiantes. Para evaluar la condición física se utilizaron los siguientes test: Wells y Dillons (flexibilidad), Sargent Test (potencia miembros inferiores), Test de 1 Milla de la AAPHARD (capacidad aeróbica) y Abdominales en 30 segundos (capacidad muscular localizada). Resultados: al comparar por sexos, los hombres presentaron diferencias estadísticas significativas en las variables físicas de capacidad aeróbica (p = 0,00), abdominales (p = 0,00) y salto (p = 0,00); solo en el caso de la flexibilidad las mujeres presentaron mejores resultados (p = 0,01). Al relacionar el IMC con la capacidad física se observa una relación negativa en ambos sexos, es decir: a mayor IMC, menor es la cantidad de abdominales realizados (r = -0,032; r = -0,084, mujeres y hombres, respectivamente) y la capacidad aeróbica (r = -0,063 y r = -0,023, mujeres y hombres, respectivamente). En flexibilidad y salto se observa una correlación positiva, aunque esta es insignificante. Conclusión: los hombres y las mujeres con normopeso presentan una mejor condición física en comparación con quienes presentan sobrepeso u obesidad. En cuanto al sexo, los hombres presentan una mejor condición física salvo en la prueba de flexibilidad, donde las mujeres presentan los mejores resultados. Además, se observa una relación negativa en ambos sexos entre la condición física y la composición corporal, donde un IMC elevado se traduce en un bajo nivel de rendimiento físico.

RESUMO O tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, é uma das espécies nativas da fauna brasileira com grande potencial de expansão, todavia, os estudos de exigências nutricionais são escassos e apresentam resultados conflitantes, a ponto de não termos informações suficientes para formular dietas específicas para a espécie, nas diferentes fases de crescimento. Objetivou-se com esta pesquisa avaliar a influência de níveis de proteína bruta sobre o desempenho produtivo, composição de carcaça e taxa de excreção de amônia em tambaqui na categoria de peso de 2 a 20 g. Os juvenis (peso médio 1,7 ? 0,05 g) foram alimentados quatro vezes ao dia, durante um período de 60 dias, com dietas contendo 300; 350; 400 e 450 g kg-1 de proteína bruta. O experimento foi executado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro níveis de proteína e cinco repetições. Os juvenis de tambaqui alimentados com a dieta contendo 300 g kg-1 de proteína bruta apresentaram maior consumo de ração, taxa de crescimento específico, taxa de eficiência proteica e valor produtivo da proteína, demonstrando que os animais alimentados com o menor nível de proteína bruta apresentaram melhor eficiência de utilização deste nutriente. Por outro lado, observou-se maior deposição de gordura viscero-somático e lipídio corporal nestes animais. As taxas de excreção de amônia foram menores nos tambaquis alimentados com a ração contendo 300 g kg-1 proteína bruta do que naqueles que receberam ração contendo 450 g kg-1. Recomenda-se o nível de 300g kg-1 de proteína bruta para tambaqui de 2 a 20 g de peso vivo.

ABSTRACT The freshwater fish, tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, is a native species of Brazilian fauna that has the potential to become a widespread aquaculture species, howerer, studies regarding the nutrient requirements remain scarce, often producing conflicting results. Hence, the currently available information is insufficient to formulate the specific diet of this species, for the different growth stages. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary crude protein levels on the growth performance, body composition and ammonia excretion rates in tambaqui of 2-20 g body weight. Juvenile (average weight, 1.70 ? 0.05 g) were fed four times a day over a 60 days period using diets containing 300; 350; 400 and 450 g kg-1 crude protein in a completely randomized experimental design. The tambaqui juvenile fed diet containing 300 g kg-1 crude protein exhibited higher feed intake, specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, and protein productive value. This finding shows an improvement in protein utilization efficiency when fish are fed the lowest level of this nutrient in the diet; however, more viscero-somatic fat deposition and body lipid content was observed in these fish. The total ammonia excretion rates were lower in tambaqui fed diet containing 300 g kg-1 crude protein than those fed diets containing 450 g kg-1 crude protein. From the present investigation, it can be conclude that 300 g kg -1 crude protein should be fed to tambaqui juvenile of 2-20 g body weight.

RESUMO: A introdução de frutos do cerrado em sucos e néctares é uma alternativa interessante para as indústrias de bebidas, pois permite desenvolver produtos inovadores, com importantes fontes nutritivas e bioativas. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi elaborar formulações de néctar misto de laranja e uvaia e uma formulação de néctar de laranja (controle), para então serem avaliadas as características físico-químicas e microbiológicas das bebidas, durante o período de armazenamento do produto. As formulações de néctar misto foram preparadas com adição de polpa de uvaia e suco de laranja, enquanto o néctar de laranja foi elaborado com o suco da fruta, sendo adicionados água mineral e sacarose comercial na composição de cada produto. O néctar resultante de cada tratamento foi envasado em garrafas de vidro esterilizadas, sendo imediatamente tampadas e submetidas a um tratamento térmico em banho-maria a 90 ºC por 5 minutos. Posteriormente, as embalagens foram resfriadas e armazenadas a temperatura ambiente para a determinação das características físico-químicas (Brix, pH, acidez total, ácido ascórbico, açúcares redutores e compostos fenólicos) e microbiológicas (coliformes totais, bolores e leveduras e bactérias láticas) da bebida. O teor de sólidos solúveis totais e a porcentagem de açúcares redutores foram maiores durante o armazenamento, para o néctar misto com maior proporção de uvaia. Observou-se maiores valores de acidez total e menor pH para o néctar misto ao longo do armazenamento. O néctar misto apresentou maiores concentrações de ácido ascórbico, entretanto, este parâmetro foi significativamente reduzido durante o período de estocagem. A concentração de compostos fenólicos foi superior para o néctar misto, sendo esta, porporcional a adição de polpa de uvaia na composição da bebida. As contagens de bactérias láticas manteve-se a níveis reduzidos para todas as formulações analisadas, enquanto as populações de bolores e leveduras e coliformes totais foram aumentadas durante o armazenamento para a formulação controle.

ABSTRACT: The addition of Cerrado fruits to juice and nectar formulations is an interesting alternative for the beverage industry, as it allows developing innovative products containing nutritive and bioactive compounds. Thus, the objective of this study was to produce mixed nectar of orange and uvaia, using orange nectar as a control, and to evaluate physicochemical and microbiological characteristics of beverages during the storage. Mixed nectar formulations were prepared with the addition of uvaia pulp and orange juice, while the orange nectar was made with fruit juice, and the addition of mineral water and commercial sucrose. Resulting nectar was bottled in sterilized glass bottles, immediately closed and heat-treated in a water bath at 90 °C for 5 minutes. Then, bottles containing the beverages were cooled and stored at room temperature for the physicochemical (Brix, pH, total acidity, ascorbic acid, reducing sugars, and phenolic compounds) and microbiological (total coliforms, molds and yeasts, and lactic acid bacteria) characterization. Total soluble solids and reducing sugars contents increased during storage for the mixed nectar formulations. Higher total acidity and lower pH levels were observed for the mixed nectar throughout the storage. Although, the mixed nectar exhibited higher ascorbic acid content, this parameter was significantly reduced during the storage. Concentration of phenolic compounds was higher for the mixed nectar, which increased with the addition of uvaia pulp to the formulation. Lactic acid bacteria counts remained at reduced levels for all formulations analyzed, while yeasts and total coliforms populations increased in the control formulation during the storage.

ABSTRACT Castor bean is one of the crops with potential to provide raw material for production of oils for biodiesel. This species possess adaptive mechanisms for maintaining the water status when subjected to drought stress. A better understanding these mechanisms under field conditions can unravel the survival strategies used by this species. This study aimed to compare the physiological adaptations of Ricinus communis (L.) in two regions with different climates, the semi-arid and semi-humid subject to water stress. The plants showed greater vapor pressure deficit during the driest hours of the day, which contributed to higher values of the leaf temperature and leaf transpiration, however, the VPD(leaf-air) had the greatest effect on plants in the semi-arid region. In both regions, between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., the plants presented reduction in the rates of photosynthesis and intracellular CO2 concentration in response to stomatal closure. During the dry season in the semi-arid region, photoinhibition occurred in the leaves of castor bean between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. These results suggest that castor bean plants possess compensatory mechanisms for drought tolerance, such as: higher stomatal control and maintenance of photosynthetic capacity, allowing the plant to survive well in soil with low water availability.

Introduction: Chile in recent decades has experienced a change in its nutritional epidemiological profile, going from a situation characterized by a high prevalence of malnutrition and infectious/parasitic diseases to another completely different, where chronic and degenerative diseases have high prevalence. Objective: The aim of the study is to develop reference values of health-related physical fitness and health male students 10-14 years of the city of Chillan. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample consists of 1,250 men aged from 10 to 14 years. Descriptive statistics were used for the preparation of these reference tables and these were divided into five classifications from very bad, bad, average, good and very good, within the age parameter. Results: We observed important levels of overweight were associated with low physical performance, raising the urgency to track in time, with tools for easy application as is this battery; in order to detect promptly the children who have low fitness levels and take measures to stimulate or improve physical capacity as a protective factors for health promotion and as an aid in the prevention of chronic diseases related to overweight or obesity. Conclusion: In this work we have established reference values for further studies regarding the health-oriented male students 10-14 years of the city of Chillan that will allow to asses and interpret correctly health-related physical fitness of this age group.

Introducción: Chile en las últimas décadas ha experimentado un cambio en su perfil epidemiológico nutricional, pasando de una situación caracterizada por una elevada prevalencia de desnutrición y enfermedades infecciosas/parasitarias a otro completamente distinto, en donde las enfermedades crónicas y degenerativas presentan una elevada prevalencia. Objetivo: el objetivo del estudio es elaborar tablas de referencia de aspectos antropométricos y de condición física en estudiantes varones de 10 a 14 años de la ciudad de Chillán. Método: estudio descriptivo de corte transversal. La muestra se compone de 1250 varones con edades entre los 10 y 14 años. Para la confección de las tablas de referencia se utilizó estadística descriptiva y estas fueron divididas en cinco clasificaciones desde muy malo, malo, media, bueno y muy bueno, teniendo como parámetro la edad. Resultados: observamos niveles importantes de sobrepeso que se asociaron con bajo desempeño físico, lo que plantea la urgencia de realizar un seguimiento en el tiempo con herramientas de fácil aplicación como la presente batería; con el fin de detectar a tiempo a los niños que tienen bajos niveles de condición física y tomar medidas orientadas a estimular o mejorar la capacidad física como factores protectores de promoción de la salud y como ayuda en la prevención de enfermedades crónicas relacionadas con el sobrepeso u obesidad. Conclusión: en este trabajo se han establecido valores de referencia para posteriores estudios en cuanto a la condición física orientada a la salud en estudiantes varones de 10 a 14 años de la ciudad de Chillán, que permitirán evaluar e interpretar correctamente la condición física orientada a la salud de este grupo etario.

RESUMO O uso da simulação e da educação a distância tem aumentado consideravelmente na área da saúde, permitindo o desenvolvimento de competências de forma ética e segura. O objetivo deste artigo é descrever a concepção e a avaliação de um curso semipresencial de emergência pré-hospitalar para médicos e enfermeiros da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Belo Horizonte, Brasil. O curso a distância foi composto por 13 aulas, e a parte presencial por dez estações temáticas. Os participantes responderam a um questionário semiestruturado (escala de Likert) como forma de avaliar o curso. Participaram do curso 203 (63,6%) médicos e 116 (36,4%) enfermeiros. A maioria dos médicos (72,1%) tinha terminado seus estudos havia mais de cinco anos e tinha pouca prática (72,9%) em medidas de suporte avançado de vida. O curso a distância foi bem avaliado quanto a qualidade geral e dos vídeos, uso de imagens e animações, e usabilidade do sistema. A plataforma de ensino foi considerada amigável. A parte de simulação foi bem avaliada. O curso utilizou metodologia baseada em simulação e educação a distância, sendo bem avaliado. A plataforma de ensino foi classificada como boa e de fácil utilização.

ABSTRACT The use of simulation and e-learning has increased considerably in healthcare related educational activities, enabling the acquisition of skills ethically and safely. The objective is to describe the design and evaluation of a semi-distance pre-hospital emergency course for physicians and nurses at the Public Health Department of Belo Horizonte City, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The course comprised 13 online lessons and ten stations, which used simulated scenarios. The participants answered a semi-structured questionnaire using the Likert scale to evaluate the course. Course participation included 203 (63.6%) physicians and 116 (36.4%) nurses; most physicians (72.1%) had finished their studies over five years prior to the study, and had little practice (72.9%) on advanced life support measures. The distance course was well evaluated in terms of general quality, video quality, use of images and animations and usability. The e-learning system was considered to be user friendly by doctors and nurses, and the practical activities were well rated. The course used methodology based on simulation and distance education, and received positive evaluations. The system was rated as good and easy to use.
