RESUMO: Varronia curassavica DC. é uma espécie medicinal nativa do Brasil. Dentre os pontos críticos que influenciam a qualidade fitoquímica dos compostos bioativos destacam-se o espaçamento entre plantas, a colheita e a pós-colheita. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a influência do espaçamento entre plantas, da época de colheita e da temperatura de secagem das folhas na produtividade e na qualidade fitoquímica do óleo essencial de V. curassavica. O cultivo orgânico foi realizado em 2018/2019 utilizando-se os seguintes espaçamentos entre plantas: 0.6 x 1.0; 0.8 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.6 m. Os teores de macro e micronutrientes das folhas foram avaliados e não se observou alterações consideráveis. Em 2018, as colheitas foram realizadas no verão, outono e inverno, sendo as folhas colhidas imediatamente submetidas ao processo de secagem a 40 °C. Em 2019, a colheita foi realizada no inverno, sendo as folhas submetidas ao processo de secagem a 40, 50 e 60 °C. O óleo essencial foi extraído por hidrodestilação e os constituintes químicos identificados CG-MS. A produção de óleo essencial foi significativamente maior no inverno e nos espaçamentos de 0,8 x 1,0 m e 1,0 x 1,0 m entre plantas. O teor de alfa-humuleno manteve-se dentro dos padrões recomendados em todas as temperaturas analisadas. Embora as temperaturas de secagem testadas não tenham comprometido o teor de alfa-humuleno, o aumento da temperatura ocasionou redução no rendimento do óleo essencial. Assim, recomenda-se o cultivo orgânico de V. currassavica no espaçamento entre 0,8 x 1,0 m e 1,0 m x 1,0 m, e a secagem de suas folhas entre 40 e 50 °C visando obter o maior rendimento e melhor qualidade fitoquímica de óleo essencial.

ABSTRACT: Varroniacurassavica is a Brazilian native medicinal species. Among the critical points influencing the phytochemical quality of bioactive compounds is the spacing between plants, harvest and post-harvest. This research aimed evaluated the influence of plant distance, harvest season, and leaves drying temperature on the yield and phytochemical quality of V. curassavica essential oil. The organic cultivation was carried out in 2018/2019 using 0.6 x 1.0; 0.8 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.0; 1.0 x 1.6 m spacing between plants. The macro and micronutrient contents of the leaves were evaluated and no considerable changes were observed. In 2018 the harvest was performed in summer, autumn, and winter, and the harvested leaves were immediately submitted to the drying process at 40 °C. In 2019 the harvest was performed in winter, and the leaves were submitted to the drying process at 40, 50, and 60 °C. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and the chemical constituents were evaluated using CG-MS. The essential oil yield was significantly higher in winter and used 0.8 x 1.0 m and 1.0 x 1.0 m spacing between plants. The alpha-humulene content remained within the recommended standards at all analyzed temperatures. Although, the drying temperatures tested did not compromise the alpha-humulene content, the increasing temperature caused a reduction in the essential oil yield. Thus, it is recommended for the organic cultivation of V. currassavica the spacing of 0.8 x 1.0 m and 1.0 m x 1.0 m, and the drying of its leaves between 40 and 50 °C to earn the highest essential oil yield and phytochemical quality.

Abstract This study analyzed the influence of strong and moderate El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events on the seasonal and interannual variabilities of the sea surface temperature (SST) in the Western Equatorial Atlantic (WEA) Ocean and how the precipitation over the state of Maranhão, in Brazil, responds to the zonal teleconnection. To evaluate the ENSO magnitude and phase in the four Niño regions (1+2, 3, 3.4, and 4), the SODA 3.3.1 oceanic reanalysis database for the period from 1980 to 2015 was used. Our results showed that the La Niña phase with moderate magnitude was the most predominant among the 70 events analyzed, with Niño 3.4 presenting the highest number (20) of ENSO events (both positive and negative phases). At lag = 0, we found that significant negative correlations prevailed between the WEA SST anomalies and ENSO index, with the region of Niño 3.4 showing the most significant correlations (r = −0.25). The whole events of El Niño and La Niña were, respectively, accompanied by a cooling and a heating of up to −0.6°C or +0.8°C in the WEA Ocean. The WEA SST anomalies during El Niño and La Niña events have, respectively, reduced and increased the precipitation in Maranhão around ± 100 mm in a quarter. Strong El Niño events influence a greater precipitation deficit in Maranhão than moderate El Niño events. Moderate La Niña events have more pronounced influence on the precipitation over Maranhão than strong La Niña events do, especially on the negative anomalies. Our results showed that the central, northern, and eastern tip sectors of the state are the most affected by this zonal teleconnection. We concluded that ENSO’s significant influences on the WEA SST seasonal variability, added to the performance of the Atlantic Meridional Mode (Soares, 2019), determine the quality of the rainy season (March–April–May) in the state of Maranhão.

RESUMO: Carrapatos são importantes parasitos de cães nos trópicos, onde patógenos transmitidos por carrapatos são altamente prevalentes, especialmente em áreas onde as medidas de controle de carrapatos são frequentemente negligenciadas. O estudo investigou a soroprevalência e as anormalidades hematológicas associadas à Ehrlichia canis em cães encaminhados para um hospital veterinário-escola no Centro-oeste do Brasil. Dos 264 cães testados para anticorpos anti-Ehrlichia canis por meio da reação de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI), 59.1% (156/264) foram positivos. A soropositividade foi associada significativamente à anemia e trombocitopenia, isoladamente ou em combinação, e à leucopenia. Por outro lado, não houve diferenças quanto à soroprevalência segundo sexo, raça e idade. Este estudo demonstrou que cães encaminhados a um hospital veterinário-escola na região Centro-oeste do Brasil são altamente expostos à E. canis, e que cães soropositivos têm maior probabilidade de apresentar alterações hematológicas, principalmente anemia, trombocitopenia e leucopenia. Para o nosso conhecimento, este é o primeiro estudo sobre a detecção de anticorpos anti-E. canis por meio da RIFI em cães do estado de Goiás. Essas descobertas destacam a necessidade de aumentar a conscientização entre os proprietários de cães em relação às medidas de controle do carrapato no Centro-oeste do Brasil, em última análise, para reduzir o risco de exposição ao E. canis e outros patógenos transmitidos por carrapatos.

ABSTRACT: Ticks are significant parasites of dogs in the tropics, where tick-borne pathogens are highly prevalent, especially in areas where tick control measures are frequently neglected. This study investigated the seroprevalence and hematological abnormalities associated with Ehrlichia canis in dogs referred to a veterinary teaching hospital in Central-western Brazil. Out of 264 dogs tested for anti-Ehrlichia canis antibodies by an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), 59.1% (156/264) were positive. Seropositivity was significantly associated to anemia and thrombocytopenia, alone or in combination, and to leukopenia. Conversely, there were no differences in terms of seroprevalence according to sex, breed and age. This study demonstrated that dogs referred to a veterinary teaching hospital in Central-western Brazil are highly exposed to E. canis and that seropositive dogs are more likely to present hematological abnormalities, particularly anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukopenia. To our knowledge, this is the first study on detection of anti-E. canis antibodies by means of IFA among dogs in the state of Goiás. These findings highlighted the need for increasing awareness among dog owners regarding tick control measures in Central-western Brazil, ultimately to reduce the risk of exposure to E. canis and other tick-borne pathogens.

Resumo O objetivo desta pesquisa foi caracterizar a distribuição dos nutrientes dissolvidos em seis estações de amostragem no estuário do rio Anil (ERA) e caracterizar o sedimento de fundo. A área de estudo é influenciada por um clima tropical e regime macromarés semidiurnas. A amostragem das águas superficiais e sedimentos foi realizada no canal principal em seis estações de amostragem distribuídas ao longo do estuário no período chuvoso (09 de maio) e seco (05 de outubro) durante a primavera. Variáveis físicas foram coletadas com o auxílio de uma sonda multiparâmetro HANNA HI-8424 (temperatura da água, salinidade, pH, oxigênio dissolvido e turbidez) e sonda YSI CTD (condutividade, temperatura e profundidade). Uma draga van Veen foi usada para a coleta de sedimentos de fundo do canal principal. Os resultados sedimentológicos foram heterogêneos. O tamanho do grão variou de areia muito fina a média. Os nutrientes dissolvidos no ERA tinham fontes diferentes dependendo do período sazonal. Insumos continentais e fluviais, evidenciados pelos valores de salinidade, governaram a distribuição dos nutrientes no período chuvoso (janeiro a junho), enquanto as concentrações dos nutrientes foram relacionadas à reciclagem da matéria orgânica no estuário na estação seca (julho a dezembro). A presença de areia no canal principal indica que os sedimentos disponíveis no ERA estão expostos a uma hidrodinâmica intensa. A distribuição dos nutrientes e o tamanho do grão revelaram a ocorrência de diferentes fontes no estuário de acordo com o regime de chuvas e a intensa hidrodinâmica das correntes de maré (macromarés semidiurnas).

Abstract The objective of this research was to characterize the distribution of dissolved nutrients at six sampling stations in the estuary of the Anil River (ARE) and characterize the bottom sediment. The study area is influenced by a tropical climate and semidiurnal macrotidal regime. Sampling of the surface water and sediment was performed in the main channel at six sampling stations distributed along the estuary in the rainy period (May 9th) and dry period (October 5th) during the spring. Physical variables were collected with the aid of a HANNA HI-8424 multi-parameter probe (water temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity) and YSI CTD (conductivity, temperature, and depth) probe. A van Veen dredge was used for the collection of bottom sediment from the main channel. The sedimentological results were heterogeneous. Grain size ranged from very fine to medium sand. Dissolved nutrients in the ARE had different sources depending on the season. Continental and fluvial inputs, evidenced by salinity values, governed the distribution of nutrients in the rainy period (January to June), whereas nutrient concentrations were related to the recycling of organic material in the estuary in the dry season (July to December). The considerable presence of sand in the main channel indicates that the sediments available in ARE are exposed to intense hydrodynamics. The distribution of nutrients and the grain size revealed the occurrence of different sources in the estuary according to the rainfall regime and the intense hydrodynamics of tidal currents (semidiurnal macrotidal).

ABSTRACT Diabetes has become an important public health problem, in the face of an aging population. The nurse must have a holistic care in the care to diabetic elderly, aiming at their quality of life. The objective was to know the perception of the elderly with diabetes on the disease and the nursing care in basic care. This is a descriptive, exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, carried out in the municipality of Sobral-CE, in October 2013. It involved 13 elderly people, interviewed through home visits. After the thematic analysis, the following categories emerged: Perceptions of the elderly on diabetes; Self-care of the elderly with diabetes; The view of the elderly with diabetes on nursing care in basic care. The elderly did not have an adequate knowledge on the disease, but adopted self-care practices by recognizing the complications of the disease in their quality of life. Regarding nursing care, there were different opinions in the discourses regarding the establishment of bonds between nursing and elderly people. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in health education actions, in addition to overcoming the weaknesses of nursing care, since establishing bonds between professionals and users is a determining factor in the care process.

RESUMEN La diabetes se ha convertido en un importante problema de salud pública, en comparación con el envejecimiento de la población. La enfermera debe tener un cuidado integral a la atención de los diabéticos de edad avanzada, en busca de su calidad de vida. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo conocer la percepción de las personas mayores con diabetes sobre la enfermedad y los cuidados de enfermería en la atención primaria. Se trata de un estudio exploratorio descriptivo con un enfoque cualitativo, realizado en Sobral, Ceará municipio, en octubre de 2013. Los participantes incluyeron 13 ancianos que fueron entrevistados mediante visitas a domicilio. Una vez completado el análisis temático, surgido como categorías: Percepción de la tercera edad sobre la diabetes; El autocuidado de las personas mayores con la diabetes; La mirada de las personas mayores con diabetes acerca de cuidados de enfermería en la atención primaria. Se observó que las personas mayores no tienen un conocimiento suficiente acerca de la enfermedad, pero adoptan prácticas de autocuidado para reconocer las complicaciones de la enfermedad en su calidad de vida. Acerca de los cuidados de enfermería, se observó en los diferentes dictámenes discursos en relación con el establecimiento de vínculos entre las enfermeras de la tercera edad. Por lo tanto señala la necesidad de invertir en actividades de educación para la salud, además de superar las deficiencias de la atención de enfermería, desde el establecimiento de vínculos entre los profesionales y los usuarios es un factor determinante en el proceso de atención.

RESUMO A Diabetes tornou-se um importante problema de Saúde Pública, frente ao envelhecimento populacional. O enfermeiro deve dispor de um atendimento holístico no cuidado aos idosos diabéticos, visando a sua qualidade de vida. Objetivou-se conhecer a percepção dos idosos com diabetes sobre essa doença e o cuidado de enfermagem na atenção básica. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, realizada no município de Sobral-CE, em outubro de 2013. Participaram 13 idosos, que foram entrevistados por meio de visitas domiciliares. Após a realização da técnica de análise temática, emergiram como categorias: Percepções dos idosos acerca do diabetes; Autocuidado do idoso com diabetes; O olhar dos idosos com diabetes sobre o cuidado de enfermagem na atenção básica. Percebeu-se que os idosos não tinham um conhecimento adequado sobre a doença, mas adotam práticas de autocuidado por reconhecer as complicações da doença na sua qualidade de vida. Sobre os cuidados de enfermagem, observou-se nos discursos diferentes opiniões com relação ao estabelecimento de vínculos entre enfermeiros-idosos. Portanto, aponta-se a necessidade de investir em ações de educação em saúde, além de superar as fragilidades da assistência de enfermagem, já que o estabelecimento de vínculos entre profissionais e usuários é um fator determinante no processo de cuidar.

A Lei 12.305 obriga as empresas fabricantes de celulares a estruturar programas de Logística Reversa e a comunicar seus clientes sobre como proceder após o término do ciclo de vida útil dos produtos. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi fazer um diagnóstico da comunicação de programas de Logística Reversa de empresas fabricantes de celulares no Brasil. Realizou-se uma pesquisa da perspectiva do consumidor, levantando as informações disponíveis em diversos canais de comunicação. O método abrangeu as técnicas de análise de conteúdo, entrevistas e levantamento. Os resultados evidenciam que as empresas investigadas não estão alinhadas com a legislação vigente. Nenhum dos programas estudados comunica adequadamente os consumidores de forma a estimular a sua participação no fluxo reverso dos produtos pós-consumo. Revelou-se também um descompasso entre intenção comportamental e comportamento dos consumidores potencializado pela deficiências de comunicação aqui identificadas.

The Law 12305 requires cell phones manufacturers to organize Reverse Logistics programs and comunicatte customers on how to handle pos-consumption appliances. The objective of this research was to analyse, based on the principles of Integrated Marketing Communication, Reverse Logistics Programs communication at mobile phones manufacturers operating in Brazil. Therefore, a resesarch was conducted from a consumer perspective, focused on information available to consumers in different communication channels. Results show that the companies surveyed are not aligned with current legislation. None of the Reverse Logistics programs effectively communicate consumers in order to estimulate their participation in the reverse flow of post-consumption products. The research also revealed a mismatch between behavioral intention and behavior of consumers increased by the communication deficiencies identified here.

La Ley 12.305 obliga a las empresas fabricantes de celulares a estructurar programas de Logística Reversa y a comunicar a sus clientes sobre cómo proceder después del término del ciclo de vida útil de los productos. El objetivo de este estudio fue hacer un diagnóstico de la comunicación de programas de Logística Reversa de empresas fabricantes de celulares en Brasil. Se realizó un estudio de la perspectiva del consumidor, haciendo un relevamiento de las informaciones disponibles en diversos canales de comunicación. El método abarcó las técnicas de análisis de contenido, entrevistas y relevamiento. Los resultados evidencian que las empresas investigadas no están alineadas con la legislación vigente. Ninguno de los programas estudiados comunica adecuadamente a los consumidores con el fin de estimular su participación en el flujo reverso de los productos pos-consumo. Reveló también una discrepancia entre intención comportamental y comportamiento de los consumidores, potencializada por la deficiencias de comunicación aquí identificadas.
