ABSTRACT Background: Critical illness is a major ongoing health care burden worldwide and is associated with high mortality rates. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors have consistently shown benefits in cardiovascular and renal outcomes. The effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in acute illness have not been properly investigated. Methods: DEFENDER is an investigator-initiated, multicenter, randomized, open-label trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in 500 adult participants with acute organ dysfunction who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Eligible participants will be randomized 1:1 to receive dapagliflozin 10mg plus standard of care for up to 14 days or standard of care alone. The primary outcome is a hierarchical composite of hospital mortality, initiation of kidney replacement therapy, and intensive care unit length of stay, up to 28 days. Safety will be strictly monitored throughout the study. Conclusion: DEFENDER is the first study designed to investigate the use of a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor in general intensive care unit patients with acute organ dysfunction. It will provide relevant information on the use of drugs of this promising class in critically ill patients. ClinicalTrials.gov registry: NCT05558098

RESUMO Antecedentes: A doença crítica é um importante ônus permanente da assistência médica em todo o mundo e está associada a altas taxas de mortalidade. Os inibidores do cotransportador de sódio-glicose do tipo 2 têm demonstrado consistentemente benefícios nos desfechos cardiovasculares e renais. Os efeitos dos inibidores do cotransportador de sódio-glicose do tipo 2 em doenças agudas ainda não foram devidamente investigados. Métodos: O DEFENDER é um estudo de iniciativa do investigador, multicêntrico, randomizado, aberto, desenhado para avaliar a eficácia e a segurança da dapagliflozina em 500 participantes adultos com disfunção orgânica aguda hospitalizados na unidade de terapia intensiva. Os participantes aptos serão randomizados 1:1 para receber 10mg de dapagliflozina e o tratamento padrão por até 14 dias ou apenas o tratamento padrão. O desfecho primário é um composto hierárquico de mortalidade hospitalar, início de terapia renal substitutiva e tempo de internação na unidade de terapia intensiva, até 28 dias. O monitoramento da segurança será rigoroso durante todo o estudo. Conclusão: O DEFENDER é o primeiro estudo desenvolvido para investigar o uso de um inibidor do cotransportador de sódio-glicose do tipo 2 em pacientes de unidade de terapia intensiva geral com disfunção orgânica aguda. O estudo fornecerá informações relevantes sobre o uso de medicamentos dessa classe promissora em pacientes críticos. Registro ClincalTrials.gov: NCT05558098

Abstract Copper oxide (CuO) is a heterogeneous catalyst applied with success in several systems like vegetable oils transesterifications. The Ce-dopoing CuO is a promisor material with a potential improve catalysis performances. In this work, CuO and Ce-doping CuO were synthesized by the microwave hydrothermal method in only 5 min at low temperature (100 oC) without templates or other petroleum dependent organic substances, using only copper and cerium nitrates and sodium hydroxide as a precursors. Both materials were applied as photocatalysts for the degradation of remazol golden yellow dye (RNL). X-ray diffraction analysis showed that CuO and Ce-doped CuO has monoclic copper oxide structure without secondary phases. SEM analysis showed the Ce-doping full modify the CuO powder morphology. The dye RNL degradation rate of Ce-doping CuO was bigger than pure CuO and the expensive CeO2.

ABSTRACT This study highlights some of the aspects of Brazilian economic development in the 21st century, relating its productive structure to the economic complexity of exports. It seeks to understand how the profile of Brazilian exports reflects its internal productive structure based on the way in which Brazil has reinserted itself into international trade in a scenario of greater trade openness since the 1990s based on two complementary and integrated approaches: the economic complexity of exports, aiming to identify the competitiveness of exported products that are produced in the national territory; and the linkage indexes of the input-output matrix, which aim to identify the linkage effects as a way of understanding the organization of its internal productive structure, highlighting the classification proposed by Kupfer (1998). It is identified that the internal productive structure of the Brazilian economy tends toward the expansion of chains of more competitive products in international trade even if less complex. The growing relevance of the chaining effects of less complex products, allied to the increase in their competitiveness and participation in the export basket, despite contributing to GDP growth in some periods, shows the structural limitations of national economic development.

RESUMO Este artigo destaca alguns aspectos do desenvolvimento econômico brasileiro no século XXI, relacionando a estrutura produtiva com a complexidade econômica das exportações. Procura compreender como o perfil das exportações brasileiras reflete a estrutura produtiva interna, a partir da forma como o Brasil se reinseriu no comércio internacional desde os anos 1990, em um cenário de maior abertura comercial. Foram utilizadas duas formas de abordagem complementares e integradas: a complexidade econômica das exportações, com o objetivo de identificar a competitividade dos produtos exportados que são produzidos em território nacional; e os índices de ligação da matriz insumo-produto, a fim de identificar os efeitos de encadeamento como uma forma de compreender a organização da estrutura produtiva interna, destacando-se a classificação proposta por Kupfer (1998). Verifica-se que a estrutura produtiva interna da economia brasileira tende para a ampliação de encadeamentos de produtos mais competitivos no comércio internacional, ainda que menos complexos. A crescente relevância dos efeitos de encadeamento de produtos menos complexos, aliada ao aumento de sua competitividade e participação na pauta de exportações, ainda que contribua para o crescimento do PIB em alguns períodos, revela limitações estruturais do desenvolvimento econômico nacional.

ABSTRACT. The present study was carried out to evaluate the substitution of synthetic performance enhancers by ethanolic propolis extract (EPE) in the diet of broilers and their effects on performance, carcass yield, noble cuts, viscera and bed quality. A completely randomized design was used, with four treatments and six replicates each, totaling 24 experimental plots with 20 birds each. The experimental treatments were: negative control, without the inclusion of performance improvement and EPE-free; positive control, containing avilamycin performance enhancer; Inclusion of 0.1% of EPE and; Inclusion of 0.2% EPE. The analyzed data were submitted to analysis of variance and applied the SNK test at 5% probability. There was no effect of the inclusion of additives on feed intake and feed conversion in the periods from 1 to 7, 1 to 21, and from 1 to 42 days of age. Weight gain was lower in birds receiving feed with the inclusion of 0.1% EPE in the period from 1 to 7 days, not differing from the other treatments in the other evaluation periods. Carcass characteristics, cuts, and viscera and bed moisture were not influenced by the treatments used. The inclusion of ethanol extract from propolis as a performance enhancer up to 42 days of age provided similar results to the use of performance enhancers based on avilamycin, thus being an efficient substitute in poultry production.

Resumo Objetivo: mapear a produção científica sobre a preservação de vestígios forenses pelos profissionais de enfermagem que atuam nos serviços de emergência. Método: revisão de escopo, com buscas dos estudos realizadas em seis bases de dados, na literatura cinzenta disponível no Google Scholar e nas referências dos estudos selecionados. Para análise, adotou-se o método de redução de dados. Resultados: foram incluídos 26 estudos que foram organizados em cinco categorias: 1) Conhecimento dos profissionais de enfermagem sobre a preservação de vestígios forenses; 2) Procedimentos realizados pela enfermagem para preservação de vestígios no corpo da vítima; 3) Procedimentos realizados pela enfermagem para preservação de vestígios em pertences/objetos da vítima; 4) Procedimentos realizados pela enfermagem para documentação dos vestígios; e 5) Ações de manutenção da cadeia de custódia realizada pela enfermagem. Conclusão: os estudos mostraram situações em que o enfermeiro de emergência pode atuar na preservação de vestígios forenses presentes no corpo da vítima e em objetos, bem como no registro dos vestígios, verificando-se a atuação da enfermagem para garantir a integridade da cadeia de custódia, principalmente em situações de agressão, de ferimento com arma de fogo, violência sexual, abuso infantil e na assistência a vítimas de trauma.

Abstract Objective: to map the scientific production on the preservation of forensic traces by Nursing professionals working in emergency services. Method: a scoping review, with searches for studies carried out in six databases, in the gray literature available in Google Scholar and in the references of the studies selected. For analysis, the data reduction method was adopted. Results: 26 studies were included, organized into five categories: 1) Nursing professionals’ knowledge on the preservation of forensic traces; 2) Procedures performed by Nursing to preserve traces in the victim’s body; 3) Procedures performed by Nursing to preserve traces in the victim’s belongings/objects; 4) Procedures performed by Nursing to document traces; and 5) Actions to maintain the chain of custody performed by Nursing. Conclusion: the studies showed situations in which the emergency nurse may act in the preservation of forensic traces present in the victim’s body and in objects, as well as in the registration of traces, verifying the role of Nursing to ensure integrity of the chain of custody, especially in situations of aggression, firearm injury, sexual violence, child abuse and assistance to trauma victims.

Resumen Objetivo: mapear la producción científica sobre la preservación de rastros forenses por profesionales de enfermería que trabajan en los servicios de emergencias. Método: revisión de alcance, con búsqueda de los estudios realizados en seis bases de datos, en la literatura gris disponible en Google Scholar y en las referencias de los estudios seleccionados. Para el análisis, se adoptó el método de reducción de datos. Resultados: se incluyeron 26 estudios organizados en cinco categorías: 1) Conocimiento de los profesionales de enfermería sobre la preservación de rastros forenses; 2) Procedimientos que realizan los enfermeros para preservar rastros en el cuerpo de la víctima; 3) Procedimientos que realizan los enfermeros para preservar rastros en las pertenencias/objetos de la víctima; 4) Procedimientos que realiza el personal de enfermería para documentar los rastros; y 5) Acciones que llevan a cabo los enfermeros para mantener la cadena de custodia. Conclusión: los estudios demostraron que hay situaciones en las cuales el enfermero de emergencias puede actuar para preservar los rastros forenses presentes en el cuerpo de la víctima y en los objetos, así como también registrar los rastros, lo que comprueba la actuación del enfermero para garantizar la integridad de la cadena de custodia, particularmente en situaciones de agresión, heridas con arma de fuego, violencia sexual, abuso infantil y asistencia a víctimas de trauma.

Abstract Carbonaceous porous materials are strong candidates for producing low-cost, lightweight, and sustainable electromagnetic (EM) absorbing materials. This work investigates the production of radar-absorbing materials (RAM) by a simple method. Sustainable carbon xerogel (CX) was synthesized from tannin, a biosourced molecule. CX and commercial carbon nanotube (CNT) were embedded in a silicone matrix at proportions of 10 and 15 wt.% of CX and 0.1 wt.% of CNT to produce flexible composites. The morphology and structure of the carbonaceous materials were evaluated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), textural properties by N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and mercury porosimetry. The electromagnetic characterization of the composites was analyzed by a vector network analyzer (VNA) in the Ku-band. The results demonstrated that an increased concentration of CX in the composite improved reflection loss reaching -43.19 dB at 13.79 GHz.

Abstract Context: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is disabling in several sports because it causes knee instability and functional deficit. Usually, surgical treatments produce the best functional outcomes, however, sometimes they are not always able to fully restore stability and function. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate postural balance, muscle strength, and functional performance of young athletes with an ACL injury before and after ACL reconstruction. Design: This was a longitudinal observational prospective study. Method: 74 athletes, 60 men, and 14 women, aged between 16 and 45, divided into two groups: the Group-Lesion of ACL with 34 athletes (24.1 years) and the Group-Control with 40 athletes without ACL lesion (27.7 years old). All volunteers performed posturography, isokinetic dynamometry, and the Hop-Test. The ACL-Group was evaluated before and 12 months after the reconstruction and the control group was evaluated once. Results: The Postoperative ACL Group presented greater limb symmetry, 0.96 (± 0.12), than the preoperative ACL Group, 0.87 (± 0.17), p < 0.01 in the Hop-Test. In the posturography, the displacement area was smaller in the postoperative ACL Group, 19.85 (± 5.74), compared to the preoperative ACL Group, 24.20 (± 8.97), p < 0.01. In isokinetic dynamometry the torque peak was greater in the postoperative ACL Group, 0.91 (± 0.14), than in the preoperative ACL Group, 0.74 (± 0.15), p < 0.01. Conclusion: The functional outcomes increased in ACL reconstruction athletes after 12 months, but not at the same level as in the Control Group. The result indicates an incomplete functional recovery, adaptive changes in postural control after injury, reconstruction, and return to sport.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi identificar as características socioeconômicas e ocupacionais e condições de saúde autorrelatadas associadas à redução da renda dos professores da educação básica do estado de Minas Gerais durante a pandemia da Covid-19. Tratou-se de um inquérito epidemiológico do tipo websurveys. Participaram do estudo 15.641 professores, com respostas obtidas de agosto a setembro de 2020. Os dados foram tratados com estatísticas descritivas, teste qui-quadrado para avaliar a associação entre as variáveis e modelo múltiplo de regressão de Poisson, com variância robusta, para estimar a magnitude das associações. Os resultados evidenciaram que a redução na renda familiar afetou 40,9% dos docentes, principalmente da zona urbana. A redução na renda familiar durante a pandemia foi mais prevalente entre os docentes que viviam com o(a) companheiro(a), possuíam vínculo precário (contratado) com a escola, com tempo de trabalho na docência até vinte anos, que trabalhavam até dez horas/semana e entre professores com hipertensão, episódios de tristeza, ansiedade e dificuldade no sono.

Abstract The aim of this study was to identify the socioeconomic and occupational characteristics and self-reported health conditions associated with the reduction in the income of basic education teachers in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a websurvey-type epidemiological survey. A total of 15,641 teachers participated in the study, the responses were obtained from August to September 2020. The data was subjected to descriptive statistics, chi-squared test to assess the association between variables and multiple Poisson regression model, with robust variance, to estimate the magnitude of the associations. The results showed that the reduction in family income affected 40.9% of teachers, mainly in the urban area. The reduction in family income during the pandemic was more prevalent among teachers who lived with their partner, who had a precarious relationship (hired) with the school, with up to twenty years of teaching experience, who worked for up to ten hours/week and among teachers with hypertension, episodes of sadness, anxiety and sleep difficulties.

Resumen El objetivo del estudio fue identificar las características socioeconómicas y ocupacionales y las condiciones de salud autonotificadas asociadas a la reducción de los ingresos de los docentes de educación básica en el estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, durante la pandemia de Covid-19. Fue una encuesta epidemiológica del tipo websurveys. Participaron en el estudio 15.641 docentes, con respuestas obtenidas entre agosto y septiembre de 2020. Los datos fueron tratados con estadística descriptiva, prueba chi-cuadrado para evaluar la asociación entre las variables y modelo de regresión de Poisson múltiple, con varianza robusta, para estimar la magnitud de las asociaciones. Los resultados mostraron que la reducción del ingreso familiar afectó al 40,9% de los docentes, principalmente del área urbana. La reducción de los ingresos familiares durante la pandemia fue más prevalente entre los profesores que vivían con su pareja, tenían una relación precaria (contratada) con la escuela, con tiempo de trabajo en la enseñanza hasta veinte años, que trabajaban hasta diez horas/semana y entre los profesores con hipertensión, episodios de tristeza, ansiedad y dificultad para dormir.

ABSTRACT A trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of different levels of microalgae Schizochytrium sp. on performance, yolk lipid profile, and egg quality of Japanese quail. A flock of 210 quail was distributed in a completely randomized design, with five treatments (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 g of Schizochytrium sp./kg of feed) and six replications with seven birds per cage. Performance and egg quality were not affected, except for a quadratic effect on yolk color, which reached the maximum value with the inclusion of 40 g of Schizochytrium sp./kg. There was linear reduction in the content of saturated fatty acids and a linear increase of polyunsaturated:saturated and polyunsaturated:monounsaturated ratios and n-6. The content of n-3 showed a minimum value with the inclusion of 6.5 g of Schizochytrium sp./kg, and the n-6:n-3 ratio was maximized with the addition of 10.5 g of microalgae/kg. As for the sensory attributes color, aroma, and overall impression, there was linear increase with the addition of increasing levels of microalgae. The inclusion of up to 40 g of microalgae Schizochytrium sp./kg in the diet of Japanese quail did not present changes in the performance nor in the egg quality but accentuated the yolk color, promoted the fortification of n-3 in the eggs, and still provided excellent sensorial acceptance. The egg fortification can add value to the product, increasing the producer remuneration and improving the nutritional quality of the diet for humans.

ABSTRACT: A reliable quantification of nitrogen (N) losses by ammonia (NH3) volatilization can contribute to identifying optimized strategies of fertilizer management. The objective of this study was to quantify ammonia volatilization from several organic N sources incorporated into or applied onto the soil surface. Two cultivation areas, under snap bean and corn, were evaluated at Embrapa Agrobiology, Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Both experiments used a randomized complete block design in split-plots, with four replications. The main plots consisted of four organic fertilizers (castor bean cake, bokashi, legume fertilizers, cattle manure), at rates of 200 kg ha-1 N, and a control treatment (without fertilization), and the subplots corresponded to the management forms (incorporated or surface-applied) of the fertilizers. In the first experiment, snap bean cv. Novirex was grown in winter/spring and in the second, corn cv. Catingueiro in summer/autumn. In each subplot, static semi-open NH3 collectors were installed. We conclude that surface-applied castor cake was the organic fertilizer with highest N loss by NH3 volatilization. A comparison of the management systems (incorporated or surface-applied) showed that volatilization from organic fertilizers incorporated into the soil was significantly lower, with a reduction of 80 % for castor cake, of 78 % for bokashi and 67 % for legume fertilizer. Nitrogen loss through ammonia volatilization varied, from rates of 3 to 25 % in winter/spring and from 2 to 38 % in summer/autumn, according to the organic fertilizer applied. The period required to recover 95 % of the N lost by NH3-N volatilization was between 13 to 18 days for castor cake; 14 to 43 days for bokashi; 17 to 49 days for legume fertilizer and more than 43 days for cattle manure.

RESUMO O abacaxi ornamental é uma planta rústica e de alto valor comercial. Normalmente, a propagação convencional é realizada por divisão de touceira apresenta baixo rendimento e ainda podendo causar disseminação de doenças. A cultura de tecidos da espécie mostra-se viável, produzindo plantas com alta qualidade genética e fitossanitária em curto espaço de tempo. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a multiplicação in vitro de plantas de abacaxi ornamental (Ananas comosus var. bracteatus L.) em diferentes sistemas de micropropagação em associação com concentrações de benziloaminopurna (BAP). Foram utilizadas plantas com cerca de 2 cm de comprimento, transplantadas para os diferentes tratamentos: biorreator, ventilação natural e convencional, combinados com 3 concentrações de BAP (0, 1 e 2 mg L−1). O meio básico utilizado foi o composto pelos sais do meio MS. Maior número de brotos e crescimento da cultura in vitro foram obtidos com o emprego do biorreator e meio de cultura contendo 2 mg L−1 de BAP. O biorreator de imersão temporária permite a renovação do ar no interior dos frascos possibilitando melhor desempenho do cultivo in vitro do abacaxi ornamental quando comparado à micropropagação convencional.

ABSTRACT Ornamental pineapple is a hard plant with significant landscaping value. Typically, conventional propagation is performed by clump division with low yields, and may even spread diseases. Plant tissue culture is viable, yielding plants with a high phytosanitary and genetic quality over a short time period. This study aimed to verify the in vitro multiplication of ornamental pineapple plants (Ananas comosus var. bracteatus L.) in different micropropagation systems, in association with BAP concentrations. Plants with about 2 cm were used, transplanted to the different treatments: bioreactor, natural ventilation and conventional micropropagation, combined with 3 BAP concentrations (0, 1 and 2 mg L−1). The basic medium used consisted of MS salts. The highest number of shoots and in vitro culture growth were obtained with the use of bioreactor and culture medium containing 2 mg L−1 BAP. The temporary immersion bioreactor allows air renewal inside the bottles, leading to a better performance of in vitro cultivation of ornamental pineapple, when compared to conventional micropropagation.

RESUMO. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do estádio de lactação, estado fisiológico, contagem de células somáticas (CCS) e escore de condição corporal (ECC) sobre a produção e composição do leite de vacas Gir e Guzerá. Foram utilizadas noventa e oito vacas, que foram classificadas de acordo com o estado fisiológico, estádio de lactação, CCS e ECC. O leite foi pesado mensalmente para obtenção dos dados de produção. Amostras compostas coletadas em frascos contendo conservante foram enviadas ao laboratório para análises. Os dados foram submetidos a análises estatísticas descritivas e de variâncias. Verificou-se maior produção de leite nos primeiros 60 dias de lactação. Os teores de gordura, proteína e extrato seco aumentaram com o avançar da lactação; enquanto o teor de lactose decresceu. Foram observados maiores teores de gordura, proteína e sólidos totais no leite de vacas vazias; enquanto as vacas gestantes apresentaram maior produção diária e maior teor de lactose no leite. Maiores teores de lactose foram verificados em animais com menor CCS. O ECC não teve efeito sobre a composição e escore de células somáticas do leite. A produção e composição do leite de vacas zebuínas sofrem influência do estádio de lactação, do estado fisiológico e da CCS.

ABSTRACT. This work was realized to evaluate lactation stage, physiological state, somatic cell count (SCC) and body condition score (BCS) on production and composition of cow's milk from Gir and Guzerat breeds were studied. Ninety-eight cows were analyzed and classified according to their physiological state, lactation stage, SCC and BCS. Milk production was weighed monthly to obtain production data. Composed samples were collected in vials containing preservatives and sent to the laboratory for analysis. Data were used for statistic descriptive analysis and analysis of variance. Higher milk production in the first 60 days of lactation was observed. Fat, protein and total solids concentration increased according to the increase of days in milk; while lactose concentration decreased. Higher levels of fat, protein and total solids in milk of non-pregnant cows were observed; while pregnant cows had higher daily production and higher lactose content in their milk. Higher lactose levels in milk were observed in animals with lower SCC. The BCS had no effect on milk composition or on somatic cell count. Zebu cow milk production and composition are influenced by lactation stage, physiological state and SCC.
