ABSTRACT Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) is one of the main weeds in the wheat crop, and the application of synthetic auxin herbicides has the potential to reduce seed viability, therefore, restricting the input into the seed bank. The objective was to evaluate the effects of synthetic auxin herbicides applied at different growth stages on germination, emergence and initial growth of Italian ryegrass. The herbicides treatments were 2,4-D, 2,4-D+picloram and dicamba applied at four different growth stages of Italian ryegrass in field and seeds quality evaluated in laboratory and greenhouse studies. In both studies, the herbicides did not reduce Italian ryegrass seed germination or emergence regardless of application growth stages. Under laboratory conditions, the application of synthetic auxin herbicides increased vigor and germination speed by up to 64 and 47%, respectively, applied in growth stages. The greenhouse test evidenced an increase in vigor by the herbicides application, but only 2,4-D increased the emergence speed and plant dry matter when applied in early plant stage. The synthetic auxin herbicides do not alter germination or emergence. Progenies treated with herbicides had greater seed vigor.

RESUMO Resíduos no solo, após a aplicação de 2,4-D e dicamba para o controle de plantas daninhas, podem atrasar o estabelecimento e desenvolvimento inicial da soja, mas as chuvas podem reduzir o intervalo necessário entre a aplicação e a semeadura. Volumes de chuva (0; 10; 30; 60; e 90 mm) foram simulados após a aplicação de 2,4-D (300 e 600 g e.a. ha-1) e dicamba (120 e 240 g e.a. ha-1), e os efeitos sobre a soja foram avaliados. A aplicação de 2,4-D não afetou o estabelecimento ou desenvolvimento inicial da soja, independentemente do volume de chuva simulado. No entanto, o residual de dicamba reduziu o estabelecimento da soja para os menores volumes de chuva. A fitotoxicidade foi mais severa para a maior dose de dicamba (75-100 %) e 50-100 % na menor dose. Os maiores volumes de chuva simulados reduziram a fitotoxicidade de dicamba na soja, mas não foram suficientes para reduzir os efeitos deletérios no desenvolvimento inicial da cultura.

ABSTRACT Soil residues following the application of 2,4-D and dicamba for weed control may delay the establishment and initial development of soybean, but rainfall can reduce the interval required between application and sowing. Rainfall volumes (0; 10; 30; 60; and 90 mm) were simulated following the application of 2,4-D (300 and 600 g a.e. ha-1) and dicamba (120 and 240 g a.e. ha-1), and the effects on soybean were evaluated. The application of 2,4-D did not affect the soybean establishment or initial development, regardless of the simulated rainfall volume. However, the dicamba residual reduced the soybean establishment for the lower rainfall volumes. Phytotoxicity was more severe for the highest dicamba rate (75-100 %), being 50-100 % for the lowest rate. The higher volumes of simulated rainfall reduced the phytotoxicity of dicamba in soybean, but were not sufficient to reduce the deleterious effects on the initial development of the crop.

RESUMO Sementes de milho perdidas durante a colheita podem emergir e se estabelecer durante o cultivo do feijão-comum, tornando-se planta invasora problemática em cultivos de sucessão. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do nível de infestação e do período de interferência de milho voluntário sobre caracteres agronômicos de feijoeiro. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 2 x 8, sendo dois níveis de infestação do milho (4 plantas m-2 e 12 plantas m-2) combinados com oito períodos de convivência entre cultura e planta invasora (0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 e 88 dias após a emergência do feijoeiro). Variáveis relacionadas ao crescimento vegetativo do feijoeiro (altura de planta, diâmetro de caule, número de ramos laterais e massa seca da parte aérea) e à sua produção de grãos (número de vagens por planta, produtividade e massa de mil grãos), além do período prévio à interferência, foram avaliadas. O aumento do período de convivência e do nível de infestação do milho voluntário afetou negativamente o crescimento e o rendimento de grãos do feijoeiro. As densidades com 4 plantas m-2 e 12 plantas m-2 de milho voluntário reduziram o rendimento do feijoeiro em 60 % e 84 %, respectivamente; enquanto os períodos prévios à interferência entre cultura e planta invasora, para os respectivos níveis de infestação, foram de 15 e 8 dias após a emergência do feijoeiro. Além disso, o milho voluntário reduz o período anterior à interferência a valores muito baixos, indicando a necessidade de antecipação do controle dessa planta invasora.

ABSTRACT Maize seeds lost during harvest may emerge and establish themselves during the cultivation of common bean, becoming a problematic weed in succession crops. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the infestation level and interference period of volunteer maize on agronomic traits of common bean. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with four replications, in a 2 x 8 factorial scheme consisting of two maize infestation levels (4 plants m-2 and 12 plants m-2) combined with eight coexistence periods between crop and weed (0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 and 88 days after the emergence of the common bean). Variables related to the common bean vegetative growth (plant height, stem diameter, number of side branches and shoot dry matter) and to its grain production (number of pods per plant, grain yield and weight of 1,000 grains), as well as the period prior to interference, were assessed. The increase of the coexistence period and volunteer maize infestation level negatively affected the common bean growth and grain yield. The densities with 4 plants m-2 and 12 plants m-2 of volunteer maize reduced the common bean grain yield by 60 % and 84 %, respectively; while the periods prior to interference between crop and weed, for the respective infestation levels, were 15 and 8 days after the common bean emergence. In addition, the volunteer maize reduces the period prior to interference to very low values, indicating the need to anticipate the control of this weed.

RESUMO: A introdução de cultivares resistentes ao dicamba e 2,4-D aumentará o uso destes herbicidas para o manejo de ervas daninhas resistentes a herbicidas, aumentando o risco de deriva em culturas não-alvo. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a fitotoxicidade, crescimento, produtividade, germinação e vigor de sementes de soja exposta deriva simulada de 2,4-D e dicamba nos estágios vegetativo e reprodutivo da soja. O experimento foi conduzido a campo na safra 2016/17. Para simular a deriva, 2,4-D foi aplicado nas doses de 0; 5,16; 10,4; 20,8 e 41,5g e.a. ha-1 e dicamba nas doses de 0; 3,7; 7,4; 14,9 e 29,8g e.a. ha-1. A fitotoxicidade de dicamba é maior que 2,4-D, sendo o estágio V5 mais suscetível para ambos herbicidas. As maiores reduções na produtividade da soja sucedem a deriva de dicamba em R2 e 2,4-D em V5. A qualidade fisiológica das sementes de soja é reduzida em função da deriva de dicamba e 2,4-D em aplicação nos ambos estágios V5 e R2 da soja. A soja é altamente sensível a baixas concentrações de 2,4-D e dicamba nos estágios vegetativo e reprodutivo. O dicamba causa maiores efeitos negativos comparado com 2,4-D. Baixas concentrações de 2,4-D e dicamba reduzem germinação e vigor de sementes de soja.

ABSTRACT: The introduction of dicamba and 2,4-D-resistant soybean will increase the use of auxin herbicides for management of herbicide-resistant weeds, increasing risk of drift in non-target crops. The field experiment was conducted in 2016/17 to evaluate injury, growth, yield, germination and seeds vigor of soybean effects to simulated drift of 2,4-D and dicamba applied to soybean at the V3 and R2 growth stages. To simulate drift, 2,4-D was applied at 0; 5.16; 10.4; 20.8 e 41.5g ae ha-1 and dicamba at: 0; 3.7; 7.4; 14.9 e 29.8g ae ha-1. The injury of the dicamba is greater than 2,4-D, and the V5 stage is more susceptible to both herbicides. The greatest reductions in soybean yield follow the drift of dicamba in R2 and 2,4-D in V5. The physiological quality seeds of the soybean is reduced by dicamba and 2,4-D drift at both the V5 and R2 stages of the soybean. Soybean is highly sensitive to low rates of 2,4-D and dicamba at the vegetative or reproductive growth stages. Dicamba causes greater negative effects than 2,4-D on soybean. The low rate of 2,4-D and dicamba reduce germination and vigor seed on soybean offspring.
