RESUMO: Considerando que o neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) causa efeitos deletérios na fertilidade, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da alimentação com sementes de neem sobre a qualidade seminal, parâmetros biométricos e morfometria testicular com codornas (Coturnix coturnix japonica Linnaeus, 1758) com 90 dias de idade, como modelo experimental. Após o período de adaptação de 30 dias às condições experimentais, as aves foram distribuídas aleatoriamente em cinco tratamentos de sementes de neem incorporadas na ração, com 10 repetições: T1 (0%), T2 (5%), T3 (10%), T4 (20%) e T5 (40%). Após 60 dias de receber rações experimentais, seu sêmen foi coletado para avaliar a qualidade espermática, as aves foram sacrificadas e os testículos foram submetidos à avaliação biométrica, histológica e histomorfométrica. Os dados foram avaliados por análise de variância e mais tarde pelo teste de Tukey com um nível de significância de 5%. Os valores médios do peso, comprimento e largura do testículo diminuíram significativamente em T4 e T5, devido à degeneração de células epiteliais germinativas. Nestes tratamentos, ocorreu um aumento significativo (P>0,05) nos valores médios da espessura da túnica albugínea e uma redução significativa nos valores do diâmetro do túbulo seminífero e a altura do epitélio germinal. Além disso, os valores médios do volume seminal, concentração de esperma, motilidade espermática, vigor e viabilidade espermática foram significativamente reduzidos. Assim, o uso de neem na alimentação de aves, bem como o uso para fins terapêuticos, são questionáveis, considerando seu impacto negativo na reprodução.

ABSTRACT: Considering that neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) causes deleterious effects on fertility, the objective was to evaluate the effect of feeding quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica Linnaeus, 1758) of 90 days old with neem seeds on seminal quality, biometric parameters, and testicular morphometrics, as an experimental model. After the 30 day adaptation period to the experimental conditions, birds were randomly distributed in five treatments of neem seeds incorporated into feed, with 10 replicates: T1 (0%), T2 (5%), T3 (10%), T4 (20%) and T5 (40%). After 60 days of receiving experimental rations, their semen was collected to evaluate the sperm quality, the birds were euthanized, and testes were submitted to biometric, histological, and histomorphometric evaluation. The data were evaluated by analysis of variance and later by Tukey test with a significance level of 5%. The mean values of testicle weight, length, and width significantly decreased in T4 and T5, due degeneration of germinal epithelial cells. In these treatments, it occurred a significant increase (P>0.05) in the average values of the tunica albuginea thickness and a significant reduction in the values of the seminiferous tubule diameter and the height of the germinal epithelium. In addition, the mean values of seminal volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility, vigor, and sperm viability were significantly reduced. Thus, the use of neem in bird feeding, as well as the use for therapeutic purposes, is questionable, considering its negative impact on reproduction.

A influência do sistema de envelhecimento artificial acelerado (EAA) na microestrutura e nas propriedades mecânicas das resinas compostas Z250, Filtek Supreme, 4 Seasons, Herculite, P60, Tetric Ceram, Charisma e Filtek Z100 foi investigada. Os compósitos foram caracterizados por espectroscopia de infravermelho com transformada de Fourier (FTIR) e análises térmicas (calorimetria exploratória diferencial - DSC e termogravimetria - TG). A microestrutura dos materiais foi analisada por microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Os dados de dureza superficial e resistência à compressão foram registados para as resinas e os valores médios foram submetidos ao teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov (p>0,05), ANOVA e teste de Tukey (α=0,05). Os resultados mostraram diferenças significativas entre as marcas comerciais em termos de dureza (F=86,74, p<0,0001) e resistência à compressão (F=40,31, p<0,0001), mas o EAA não afetou as propriedades (dureza superficial: F=0,39, p=0,53, resistência à compressão: F=2,82, p=0,09) de qualquer uma das resinas. FTIR, DSC e análise de TG revelou que a polimerização da resina foi completa, e não houve diferenças entre os espectros e os perfis de curva térmica dos materiais obtidos, antes e depois de EAA. TG mostrou a ausência de compostos voláteis e evidenciou uma boa estabilidade térmica até 200 °C, e quantidades similares de resíduos foram encontradas em todas as resinas avaliadas, antes e depois de EAA. O tratamento de EAA não afetou significativamente a superfície das resinas. Portanto, independentemente do tipo de resina, o EAA não influenciou a microestrutura e as propriedades mecânicas.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of accelerated artificial aging (AAA) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Filtek Z250, Filtek Supreme, 4 Seasons, Herculite, P60, Tetric Ceram, Charisma and Filtek Z100. composite resins. The composites were characterized by Fourier-transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermal analyses (Differential Scanning Calorimetry - DSC and Thermogravimetry - TG). The microstructure of the materials was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Surface hardness and compressive strength data of the resins were recorded and the mean values were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). The results showed significant differences among the commercial brands for surface hardness (F=86.74, p<0.0001) and compressive strength (F=40.31, p<0.0001), but AAA did not affect the properties (surface hardness: F=0.39, p=0.53; compressive strength: F=2.82, p=0.09) of any of the composite resins. FTIR, DSC and TG analyses showed that resin polymerization was complete, and there were no differences between the spectra and thermal curve profiles of the materials obtained before and after AAA. TG confirmed the absence of volatile compounds and evidenced good thermal stability up to 200 °C, and similar amounts of residues were found in all resins evaluated before and after AAA. The AAA treatment did not significantly affect resin surface. Therefore, regardless of the resin brand, AAA did not influence the microstructure or the mechanical properties.

This study evaluated the effect of artificially accelerated aging (AAA) on the surface hardness of eight composite resins: Filtek Z250, Filtek Supreme, 4 Seasons, Herculite, P60, Tetric Ceram, Charisma, and Filtek Z100. Sixteen specimens were made from the test piece of each material, using an 8.0 × 2.0 mm teflon matrix. After 24 hours, eight specimens from each material were submitted to three surface hardness readings using a Shimadzu Microhardness Tester for 5 seconds at a load of 50 gf. The other eight specimens remained in the artificially accelerated aging machine for 382 hours and were submitted to the same surface hardness analysis. The means of each test specimen were submitted to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p > 0.05), ANOVA and Tukey test (p < 0.05). With regard to hardness (F = 86.74, p < 0.0001) the analysis showed significant differences among the resin composite brands. But aging did not influence the hardness of any of the resin composites (F = 0.39, p = 0.53). In this study, there was interaction between the resin composite brand and the aging factors (F = 4.51, p < 0.0002). It was concluded that notwithstanding the type of resin, AAA did not influence surface hardness. However, with regard to hardness there was a significant difference among the resin brands.

Efeitos do glyphosate nos teores foliares de micro-nutrientes de soja transgênica têm sido amplamente relatados, porém, pouco se sabe sobre seus efeitos associados a outros agrotóxicos. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar a produção e a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de soja, bem como os teores de micronutrientes nas folhas, em função de métodos de controle de plantas daninhas. Foram avaliados dez tratamentos DBC, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Nas parcelas, avaliou-se o efeito da aplicação ou não de endossulfan + tebuconazole e, nas subparcelas, o efeito dos métodos de controle de plantas daninhas (testemunha não capinada; testemunha capinada; aplicação única de glyphosate (1.080 g ha-1) e fomesafen + fluazifop-ρ-butil (180 + 225 g ha-1), ambas aos 15 DAE; e aplicação sequencial de glyphosate (1.080 g ha-1), aos 15, 30 e 45 DAE). Após a colheita da soja, as sementes foram amostradas, para avaliar a sua germinação, vigor e produtividade. Os teores de manganês foram influenciados pela aplicação sequencial de glyphosate, associada ao endossulfan + tebuconazole. A germinação do teste de frio foi reduzida em sementes de plantas tratadas com fomesafen + fluazifop-p-butil, em associação com endossulfan + tebuconazole. Dentre os tratamentos sem endossulfan + tebuconazole, a aplicação sequencial de glyphosate promoveu a maior massa de cem sementes, bem como, associada à mistura endossulfan + tebuconazole, diminuiu os teores foliares de Cu e Mn, porém, melhorou a germinação e não influenciou no vigor das sementes, em relação à soja capinada.

Glyphosate effects on leaf micronutrients contents of transgenic soybean have been widely reported, however, little is known about these effects associated with other pesticides. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiologic quality and yield of soybean seeds, as well as leaf micronutrients contents, according to weed control methods. Ten RBD treatments were arranged in a split-plot scheme with four replications. The application or non-application of endosulphan + tebuconazole was evaluated in the plots, while the weeds control methods were assessed in the subplots (weeded control; non-weeded control; single application of glyphosate (1,080 g ha-1) and fomesafen + fluazifop-ρ-butil (180 + 225 g ha-1), both at 15 DAE; and sequential application of glyphosate (1,080 g ha-1) at 15, 30, and 45 DAE). After harvesting, the soybean seeds were sampled, in order to evaluate their germination, vigor, and yield. Copper and manganese contents were only influenced by the sequential application of glyphosate, associated with endosulphan + tebuconazole. The cold test germination was reduced in seeds of plants treated with fomesafen + fluazifop-p-butil associated with endosulphan + tebuconazole. Among the treatments without endosulphan + tebuconazole, the sequential application of glyphosate promoted the highest 100-seeds weight, as well as, when associated with endosulphan + tebuconazole, reduced the leaf concentrations of Cu and Mn, however, it improved seeds germination and showed no effects on seeds vigor, when compared with the weeded soybean.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue el de realizar una revisión de literatura con el fin de identificar las alteraciones de posturales consecuentes de la Disfunción Temporomandibular y el tratamiento fisioterapéutico con entrenamiento postural. La metodología empleada fue una revisión bibliográfica por intermedio del sistema Medline y Lilacs, entre los años de 1993 y 2003, además de otros artículos y textos considerados importantes para este trabajo. Después de la lectura crítica fueron identificados dos temas: Las Disfunciones Temporomandibulares y su relación con la postura; las Disfunciones Temporomandibulares y el tratamiento fisioterapéutico por ejercicios y entrenamiento de postura. Conclusión: las alteraciones posturales pueden estar relacionadas a la Disfunción Temporomandibular y el uso de tratamiento fisioterapéutico con entrenamiento postural puede obtener resultados positivos.

The aim of this work is to present survey on posture alterations due to Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction and the related Physiotherapy treatment using posture training. The employed methodology was based on a large survey from 1993 to 2003 over well known datbases like Medline and Lilacs. Two main issues are present in almost all articles: how Dysfunction Temporomandibular Joint and posture are related and the Dysfunction Temporomandibular Joint treatment using training and exercises. The was observed that physiotherapy treatment using training and exercises was help patients to decrease the symptoms and, as a consequence, their posture.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão da literatura a fim de se obter um levantamento sobre quais alterações posturais sao decorrentes da Disfunção Temporomadibular e sua correlação com o tratamento fisioterapêutico e treino de postura. A metodologia empregada foi um levantamento bibliográfico realizado pelo sistema Medline e Lilacs, entre 1993 e 2003, além de outros artigos e textos considerados importantes para este trabalho. Após leitura crítica foram identificados dois temas: As Disfunções Temporomandibulares e sua relação com a postura; as Disfunções Temporomandibulares e o tratamento fisioterapêutico por exercícios e treino de postura. Conclusão: as alterações posturais podem estar relacionadas à Disfunção Temporomandibular, e o tratamento fisioterapêutico com treino de postura pode-se obter resultados positivos.
