Abstract Objective Evaluate autonomic function and low-grade inflammation and characterize the correlation between these variables in schoolchildren with obesity living in the Brazilian northeast region. Methods 84 children with obesity and 41 with normal weight were included in this cross-sectional study. Anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure (BP), inflammatory biomarkers, and heart rate variability (HRV) indexes were analyzed in children aged 7 to 11 years. Results children with obesity had increased systolic (p= 0.0017) and diastolic (p= 0.0131) BP and heart rate (p= 0.0022). The children with obesity displayed significantly lower SDNN, RMSSD, NN50, HF (ms), HF (nu), SD1, SD2, and higher LF (ms), LF (nu), LF/HF, SD1/SD2, DFA-α1, and DFA-α2, compared to normal weight. A lower and higher capacity for producing IL-10 (p= 0.039) and IL-2 (p= 0.009), respectively, were found in children with obesity compared to children with normal weight. Although IL-2, IL-4 and IL17A did not correlate with HRV parameters, IL-6 was positively correlated with SDNN, LF (ms) and SD2, TNF-α was positively correlated with LF/HF and SD1/SD2 ratio, and IFN-γ was positively correlated with SDNN, RMMSSD, NN50, LF (ms), HF (ms), SD1, and SD2. Conclusions The findings suggest that children with obesity have impaired autonomic function and systemic low-grade inflammation compared to children within the normal weight range, the inflammatory biomarkers were correlated with HRV parameters in schoolchildren living in the northeastern region of Brazil.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effect of the co-feeding (C) period on the growth and survival of larvae of the yo-yo loach Botia lohachata ornamental species during the weaning period from live food (LF) to inert food (IF). The breeders were subjected to induced spawning using crude pituitary homogenate. A total of 2,400 larvae were used with an average initial weight of 0.39 ± 0.09 mg and an average total length of 4.08 ± 0.21 mm, from a single breeding pair. The live food was newly hatched nauplii of Artemia franciscana, and the inert diet was a commercial ration with 55% crude protein and two particle sizes (142-350 µm and 350-500 µm). As the first food, all larvae received A. franciscana during the first six days, except for the fasting (NC) and inert food (IF) groups. The following co-feeding strategies were employed: C4 = 4 days of co-feeding, C8 = 8 days of co-feeding, C12 = 12 days of co-feeding, and LF = Artemia during the entire experimental period. The longest period with live food promoted better larval growth rates. The specific growth rate of larvae fed live food during the entire period (LF) was higher than that of the other groups, followed by the co-feeding strategies. There was no effect (P > 0.01) on larval survival in the LF, C12, C8, and C4 groups, which ranged from 41% to 53% after 30 days. Treatment R resulted in high mortality and low growth, suggesting that live food should be the first food source for B. lohachata larvae.

RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do período de co-alimentação (C) no crescimento e sobrevivência de larvas da espécie ornamental Botia lohachata durante o período de desmame de alimento vivo (LF) para alimento inerte (IF). Os reprodutores foram submetidos à desova induzida com homogeneizado de hipófise. Foram utilizadas 2.400 larvas com peso inicial médio de 0,39 ± 0,09 mg e comprimento total médio de 4,08 ± 0,21 mm, de um único casal reprodutor. O alimento vivo foi náuplios recém-eclodidos de Artemia franciscana, e a dieta inerte foi uma ração comercial com 55% de proteína bruta e dois tamanhos de partículas (142-350 µm e 350-500 µm). Como primeiro alimento, todas as larvas receberam A. franciscana durante os primeiros seis dias, exceto os grupos jejum (NC) e alimento inerte (IF). As seguintes estratégias de co-alimentação foram empregadas: C4 = 4 dias de co-alimentação, C8 = 8 dias de co-alimentação, C12 = 12 dias de co-alimentação e LF = Artemia durante todo o período experimental. O maior período com alimento vivo promoveu melhores taxas de crescimento larval. A taxa de crescimento específico das larvas alimentadas com ração viva durante todo o período (LF) foi maior que a dos demais grupos, seguida das estratégias de co-alimentação. Não houve efeito (P > 0,01) na sobrevivência larval nos grupos LF, C12, C8 e C4, que variou de 41% a 53% após 30 dias. O tratamento IN resultou em alta mortalidade e baixo crescimento, sugerindo que o alimento vivo deve ser a primeira fonte de alimento para as larvas de B. lohachata.

ABSTRACT Current instrumentation systems cannot fully prepare oval root canal systems. This may cause accumulation of hard tissue debris and fail to eliminate bacteria from areas inaccessible to instrumentation, which could perpetuate periapical inflammation and jeopardize the success of endodontic treatment Aim To evaluate the performance of two endodontic systems in oval canals by investigating the changes in volume, unprepared areas, and centering ability of XP-endo Shaper (XPS) and WaveOne Gold (WOG) in oval canals using microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) Materials and Method Thirty mandibular canines were scanned before and after preparation with WOG (25/.07 and 35/.06) or XPS (30/.01) to evaluate the volume, surface area, and canal centralization at 4 mm and 10 mm from the apical foramen Results Volume and surface area increased significantly after preparation with both systems (p<0.05). However, no significant difference was observed in the unprepared areas, regarding either the entire canal (26.21% for WOG and 30.10% for XPS), or the apical segment (18.82% for WOG and 14.63% for XPS) (p >0.05) Conclusions Both systems maintained canal centralization, with no difference between them. XPS and WOG had similar shaping abilities in the mandibular canine, but left almost one third of the unprepared areas.

RESUMO Os sistemas de instrumentação atuais são incapazes de preparar completamente os sistemas de canais radiculares do canal oval, o que pode levar ao acúmulo de detritos de tecido duro e manter micro-organismos em áreas inacessíveis à instrumentação. Essas bactérias poderiam perpetuar a inflamação periapical e comprometer o sucesso do tratamento endodôntico Objetivo Para avaliar o comportamento de dois sistemas endodônticos em canais ovais, esse estudo investigou as alterações no volume, áreas não preparadas e capacidade de centralização do XP-endo Shaper (XPS) e do WaveOne Gold (WOG) em canais ovais usando microtomografia computadorizada (micro-CT) Material e métodos Trinta caninos inferiores foram escaneados antes e depois do preparo com WOG (25/.07 e 35/.06) ou XPS (30/.01) para avaliar o volume, a área de superfície e a centralização do canal a 4 mm e 10 mm do forame apical Resultados O volume e a área de superfície aumentaram significativamente após o preparo com ambos os sistemas (p<0,05). No entanto, não foram observadas diferenças significativas nas áreas não preparadas, não apenas em todo o canal (26,21% para WOG e 30,10% para XPS), mas também no segmento apical (18,82% para WOG e 14,63% para XPS) (p >0,05) Conclusão Ambos os sistemas mantiveram a centralização do canal, sem diferenças entre eles. O XPS e o WOG tiveram habilidades de modelagem semelhantes no canino mandibular, mas deixaram quase um terço das áreas do canal sem preparo.

Abstract This study was aimed at analyzing the surface properties of a universal resin composite and evaluating the effect of preheating on its physicochemical properties. Two commercial resin composites were used under two conditions: Filtek Universal Restorative (UR); UR preheated (URH); Filtek Supreme (FS) and FS preheated (FSH). The film thickness (FT) test (n = 10) was done using two glass slabs under compression. Flexural strength (FLS) and modulus (FLM) were evaluated using a three-point flexion test (n = 10). Polymerization shrinkage stress (PSS) was evaluated in a universal testing machine (n = 5). Gap width (GW) between composite and mold was measured in internally polished metallic molds (n = 10). The degree of conversion (DC) was evaluated by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (n = 3). The morphology of the filler particles was checked by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and EDX analysis. Surface gloss (SG) and surface roughness (SR) were evaluated before and after mechanical brushing (n = 10). The outcomes were submitted to 2-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). Lower mean values of FT were observed for the preheated groups when compared to the non-preheated groups. URH and FSH showed higher mean values of FLS and FLM when compared with UR and FS. No differences were observed between groups in the PSS test. The GW was higher for the UR and FS groups when compared with URH and FSH. The DC was higher for preheated resin composites when compared to the non-preheated groups. The SR of the UR composite was higher than the FS after mechanical brushing, while the SG was higher for the FS groups. In conclusion, the universal resin composite tested generally presented similar physicochemical properties compared with the nanofilled resin composite and either similar or slightly inferior surface properties. The preheating improved or maintained all properties evaluated.

Resumo Neste estudo avaliou-se propriedades físico-químicas e de superfície de um compósito universal pré-aquecido e comparado a um compósito convencional. Foram utilizados dois compósitos comerciais: Filtek Universal Restorative (UR); UR pré-aquecido (URH); Filtek Supreme (FS) e FS pré-aquecido (FSH). O teste de espessura de película (EP) (n = 10) foi feito usando duas placas de vidro sob compressão. A resistência à flexão (RF) e o módulo flexural (MF) foram avaliados por meio do teste de flexão de três pontos (n = 10). A tensão de contração de polimerização (TCP) foi avaliada em uma máquina de teste universal (n = 8). A largura da fenda (LF) entre o compósito e o molde foi medida em moldes metálicos polidos internamente (n = 10). O grau de conversão (GC) foi avaliado por espectroscopia de infravermelho com transformada de Fourier (n = 3). A morfologia das partículas de carga foi observada em microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e sua composição em EDX. Brilho superficial (BS) e rugosidade superficial (RS) foram avaliados antes e após escovação mecânica (n=10). Os resultados foram submetidos à ANOVA 2-fatores e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (α = 0,05). Menores valores médios de EP foram observados para os grupos pré-aquecidos quando comparados aos grupos não pré-aquecidos. URH e FSH apresentaram maiores valores médios de RF e MF quando comparados com UR e FS. Não foram observadas diferenças entre os grupos no teste TCP. A LF foi maior para os grupos UR e FS quando comparados com URH e FSH. O GC foi maior para os compósitos pré-aquecidos quando comparados aos não pré-aquecidos. A RS do compósito UR foi maior que o FS após a escovação mecânica, enquanto o BS foi maior para os grupos FS. Em conclusão, o compósito universal testado geralmente apresentou propriedades físico-químicas semelhantes em comparação ao compósito nanoparticulado e propriedades de superfície semelhantes ou ligeiramente inferiores. O pré-aquecimento melhorou ou manteve todas as propriedades avaliadas.

ABSTRACT Linoleic (LA, 18:2) and alpha-linolenic (ALA, 18:3) acids are omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids considered essential to human and animal health. The optimum LA/ALA ratio for the production of fertile eggs in Japanese quail breeders has been little investigated. Thus, this study aimed to assess the effects of LA/ALA ratio on productive performance, egg quality, serum biochemical profile, body composition, and organ weight in Japanese quail. A completely randomized design was used. Birds were distributed into five treatments consisting of different LA/ALA ratios (1.48:1, 4.57:1, 7.63:1, 10.69:1, and 13.75:1), obtained by adding soybean (LA) and flaxseed (ALA) oils to the feed. Productive performance and egg quality were assessed in three cycles of 28 days each. At the end of the experiment, the birds were slaughtered and evaluated for biochemical profile, genital organ weights, and body composition. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and regression (p<0.05). LA/ALA ratio had no effect on productive performance or egg quality. Blood cholesterol in females and males and total triglycerides in females showed a quadratic response. Breeders fed the highest level of flaxseed oil (1.48:1) had the best serum levels of cholesterol and total triglycerides. Live weight and relative organ weights were not influenced by LA/ALA ratio. Differences in ash and crude protein levels were observed between groups, with LA increasing the deposition of these nutrients. It was concluded that LA/ALA ratio didn’t affect productive performance or egg quality. However, based on the results of body composition, serum triglycerides, and cholesterol, it is recommended to use an LA/ALA ratio of 1.48:1 in diets.

Abstract Background In the pediatric population, syncope is mainly from vasovagal (VVS) origin. Its evaluation must be done by clinical methods, and the tilt test (TT) can contribute to the diagnosis. Objectives To analyze the clinical profile, Calgary and modified Calgary scores, response to TT and heart rate variability (HRV) of patients aged ≤ 18 years with presumed VVS. To compare the variables between patients with positive and negative responses to TT. Method Observational and prospective study, with 73 patients aged between 6 and 18 years, submitted to clinical evaluation and calculation of scores without previous knowledge of the TT. It was done at 70º under monitoring for HRV analysis. P-value < 0.05 was the statistical significance criterion. Results Median age was 14.0 years; 52% of participants were female, 72 had Calgary ≥ -2 (mean 1.80), and 69 had modified Calgary ≥ -3 (mean 1.38). Prodromes were observed in 59 patients, recurrence in 50 and trauma in 19. The response to TT was positive in 54 participants (49 vasovagal, with 39 vasodepressor responses), with an increase in the low frequency (LF) component and a decrease in the high frequency (HF) component (p < 0,0001). In the supine position, LF was 33.6 in females and 47.4 in normalized units for males (p = 0.02). When applying the operating characteristic curve for positive TT, there was no statistical significance for HRV and scores. Conclusion Most children and adolescents with a presumed diagnosis of VVS presented a typical clinical scenario, with a Calgary score ≥ -2, and a predominant vasodepressor response to TT. Greater sympathetic activation was observed in the supine position in males. Calgary scores and sympathetic activation did not predict the response to TT.

Resumo Fundamento A síncope, na população pediátrica, tem como sua principal causa, a vasovagal (SVV). Sua avaliação deve ser feita por métodos clínicos e o teste de inclinação (TI) pode contribuir para seu diagnóstico. Objetivos Analisar o perfil clínico, os escores de Calgary e de Calgary modificado, a resposta ao TI e a variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC) de pacientes ≤ 18 anos de idade, com presumida SVV. Comparar as variáveis entre pacientes com resposta positiva e negativa ao TI. Método Estudo observacional e prospectivo, com 73 pacientes com idades entre 6 e 18 anos, submetidos à avaliação clínica e ao cálculo dos escores, sem o conhecimento do TI. Este foi feito a 70º sob monitoramento para análise da VFC. Valor-p < 0,05 foi considerado como o critério de significância estatística. Resultados A mediana de idade foi de 14,0 anos, sendo que 52% eram no sexo feminino, 72 apresentaram Calgary ≥ -2 (média 1,80) e 69 com Calgary modificado ≥ -3 (média 1,38). Ocorreram pródromos em 59 pacientes, recorrência em 50 e trauma em 19. A resposta ao TI foi positiva em 54 (49 vasovagal, com 39 vasodepressora), com aumento do componente de baixa frequência (BF) e diminuição da alta frequência (AF) (p < 0,0001). Na posição supina, o BF foi de 33,6 no sexo feminino e 47,4 em unidades normalizadas no sexo masculino (p = 0,02). Aplicando-se a curva de operação característica para TI positivo, não houve significância estatística para VFC e os escores. Conclusões A maioria das crianças e adolescentes com diagnóstico presumido de SVV apresentaram um cenário clínico típico, com escore de Calgary ≥ -2, e resposta vasodepressora predominante ao TI. Verificou-se uma maior ativação simpática na posição supina no sexo masculino. Os escores de Calgary e a ativação simpática não permitiram predizer a resposta ao TI.

To this end, answers to one of the questions of a questionnaire completed by 174 language school students were qualitatively analyzed, exploring the thematic content and textual elements from the perspective of text linguistics (Koch, 2000a, 2000b). The analysis was performed based on the discussions of language ideologies (Del Valle, 2007; Arnoux & Del Valle, 2010; and Del Valle & Meirinho-Guede, 2016). Results indicated that the ideas related to the French Language (FL) have several connections to social dimensions, namely aesthetic - FL as a symbol of elegance and refinement and FL as representative of a superior culture -, epistemological - FL as the language of science -, national identity - FL as the language of France -, international identity - FL as the language of diplomacy -, and labor - FL as a language for the labor market.

RESUMO Este trabalho inserido no campo da Política Linguística (PL) tem como objetivo investigar as ideologias linguísticas sobre a língua francesa (LF) presentes em textos de alunos de francês como língua estrangeira (FLE), em seis escolas de língua, na cidade de João Pessoa. Para atingirmos tal objetivo, analisamos, qualitativamente, as respostas a uma pergunta de um questionário aplicado a 174 alunos, explorando o conteúdo temático e os elementos textuais a partir da Linguística Textual (Koch, 2000a, 2000b). A análise foi realizada conforme os pressupostos teóricos das Ideologias Linguísticas (Del Valle, 2007; Arnoux & Del Valle, 2010; e Del Valle & Meirinho-Guede, 2016). Os resultados indicaram que as ideias sobre a LF apresentam conexões diversas com dimensões sociais: estética - LF como símbolo de elegância e requinte e LF como representativa de uma cultura superior-, epistemológica - LF como língua da ciência -, identidade nacional - LF como língua da França -, identidade internacional - LF como língua da diplomacia - e laboral - LF como língua para o mercado de trabalho.

Abstract Since bull fertility prediction remains challenging, the identification of potential fertility markers is important considering the economic benefits to the livestock industry. The main goal of this study was to determine the Na/K-ATPase activity and expression in thawed sperm of high (HF)- and low-fertility (LF) Angus bulls. Samples from three different batches/bulls with HF (n = 4) and LF (n = 4) were used. The Na/K-ATPase activity was determined after thawing, whereas sperm kinematics, membrane integrity, and expression of Na/K-ATPase on sperm surface were evaluated immediately post-thaw and after 120 minutes of incubation. Within the same incubation time, there was no difference on sperm membrane integrity, kinematics, and the expression of Na/K-ATPase on the sperm surface between HF and LF bulls. Kinematic parameters of LIN and VCL were not influenced by incubation time in samples from HF and LF, respectively. A tendency (P = 0.06) of higher Na/K-ATPase enzymatic activity for sperm of HF bulls compared to LF bulls was observed (0.49 ± 0.07 and 0.32 ± 0.06, respectively). In conclusion, Na/K-ATPase activity and expression in thawed sperm from Angus bulls are not related to the fertility index after fixed-time artificial insemination. However, sperm kinematics related to hyperactivation might indicate higher sperm cryotolerance for HF bulls.

RESUMO Embora a fração de lixiviação (FL) seja utilizada para remover sais da zona radicular em condições de salinidade, quando inadequadamente calculada, pode diminuir a eficiência do uso da água e levar a grandes perdas de nutrientes essenciais. No presente estudo avaliou-se o uso da água, as concentrações de nutrientes foliares em plantas de milho e as perdas de nutrientes em função de duas formas de determinação da FL em plantas de milho cultivadas em colunas de solo sob estresse salino. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com os tratamentos dispostos em parcelas subdivididas, com sete repetições. As parcelas foram formadas por duas formas de determinação da FL e as subparcelas por quatro condutividades elétricas da água de irrigação - CEa (0,5; 2,0; 4,0 e 6,0 dS m-1). As FL foram determinadas de acordo com 1) a fórmula proposta por Rhoades (RHO) e 2) aplicando uma FL de 0,15 calculado de acordo com o balanço hídrico do solo (SWB). A concentração foliar de N, P, Ca e Mg foi maior nas plantas onde utilizou-se o SWB do que no método de RHO. A concentração foliar de N, P e K diminuiu de acordo com o aumento da salinidade da água, independentemente do método de determinação da FL. A adição de uma FL de 0,15 de acordo com o SWB resultou em diminuição das perdas de nutrientes e maior produtividade física da água, em relação ao RHO. Assim, uma determinação mais precisa da FL aumenta os retornos econômicos da cultura do milho no semiárido quando se utiliza água salina para irrigação.

ABSTRACT Although leaching fraction (LF) is used to remove salts from the root zone under conditions of salinity, if miscalculated, it can decrease water use efficiency and lead to major losses of essential nutrients. This study evaluated the water use efficiency, leaf nutrient concentrations in maize plants, and nutrient losses as a function of two ways of determining the LF in maize crop grown in soil columns under salt stress. The experimental design used was completely randomized, with treatments arranged in split plots, with seven replicates. The plots were formed by two methods of determination of LF, and the subplots by four electrical conductivities of irrigation water - ECw (0.5, 2.0, 4.0, and 6.0 dS m-1). The leaching fractions were established according to 1) the formula proposed by Rhoades (RHO) and 2) by applying a LF of 0.15 calculated according to the soil water balance (SWB). The leaf concentrations of N, P, Ca, and Mg were higher in plants under SWB than under RHO method. The leaf concentrations of N, P, and K decreased with increased salinity, regardless of the LF. Adding a LF of 0.15 according to SWB resulted in decreased losses of nutrients and higher physical water productivity, as compared to the RHO. Thus, a more precise determination of the LF is needed to increase economic returns for maize cultivation in semi-arid regions when using brackish water for irrigation.

RESUMO O uso da pressão positiva de duplo nível nas vias aéreas (BiPAP) tem repercussões sobre desfechos cardiorrespiratórios. No entanto a influência da BiPAP na modulação do sistema nervoso autônomo no pós-operatório de cirurgia cardíaca ainda não foi explorada. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar os efeitos da BiPAP na saturação periférica de oxigênio, sinais vitais e balanço autonômico no período de hospitalização após cirurgia cardíaca. Este ensaio controlado e randomizado avaliou 36 pacientes no pré-operatório e na alta hospitalar. O grupo BiPAP recebeu tratamento 18 horas após a cirurgia até a alta hospitalar, em duas sessões diárias de 20 minutos associado à fisioterapia de rotina. O grupo controle recebeu apenas a fisioterapia de rotina durante o mesmo período. O desfecho primário foi a saturação periférica de oxigênio, enquanto os desfechos secundários foram sinais vitais e equilíbrio autonômico avaliado pela variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (alta frequência - HF, baixa frequência - LF, relação LF/HF). Observou-se que a saturação periférica de oxigênio e a pressão arterial não se alteraram na alta hospitalar. Houve um aumento similar na frequência cardíaca e na frequência respiratória em ambos os grupos. O grupo BiPAP teve uma redução do componente LF (simpático) em −27,1 n.u. (IC 95% −39 a −15,2), aumento de HF (parassimpático) em 27,1 n.u. (IC 95% 15,2 a 39) e melhora na relação LF/HF em −2,5 (IC 95% −3,8 a −1,2) em comparação ao grupo controle. A BiPAP atenuou a atividade simpática, melhorou a modulação vagal e o equilíbrio autonômico na alta hospitalar. Esses achados evidenciam que a BiPAP possibilita mecanismos autonômicos mais eficientes durante a hospitalização após a cirurgia cardíaca.

ABSTRACT The use of bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) has repercussions on cardiorespiratory outcomes. However, the literature still lacks analyses of the postoperative influence of BiPAP on the modulation of the autonomic nervous system after cardiac surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of BiPAP on peripheral oxygen saturation, vital signs, and autonomic balance during hospitalization after cardiac surgery. This randomized controlled trial evaluated 36 patients before and after surgery. The BiPAP group was treated in two 20-minute daily sessions of routine physical therapy since 18 hours after surgery until discharge. The control group received routine physical therapy during the same period. Our primary outcome was peripheral oxygen saturation. Secondary outcomes were vital signs and autonomic balance evaluated by heart rate variability. We observed that peripheral oxygen saturation and blood pressure were unaffected at hospital discharge. Both groups showed a similar increase in heart and respiratory rates. The BiPAP group showed a reduction of the low sympathetic frequency component in −27.1 n.u. (95% CI: −39 to −15.2), increase of high parasympathetic frequency in 27.1 n.u. (95% CI: 15.2 to 39), and an improvement to the LF/HF ratio in −2.5 (95% CI: −3.8 to −1.2), when compared to the control group. BiPAP attenuated sympathetic activity and improved vagal modulation and autonomic balance at hospital discharge. These findings evidence that BiPAP enables more efficient autonomic mechanisms during hospitalization after cardiac surgery.

RESUMEN El uso de la presión positiva de doble nivel en las vías respiratorias (BiPAP) tiene impacto en los resultados cardiorrespiratorios. Pero todavía no se sabe la influencia de la BiPAP en la modulación del sistema nervioso autónomo en el posoperatorio de cirugía cardíaca. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los efectos de la BiPAP sobre la saturación periférica de oxígeno, los signos vitales y el equilibrio autonómico en el periodo de hospitalización después de la cirugía cardíaca. Este ensayo controlado aleatorizado evaluó a 36 pacientes antes de la operación y al alta hospitalaria. El grupo BiPAP recibió tratamiento 18 horas después de la cirugía hasta el alta hospitalaria, en dos sesiones diarias de 20 minutos cada, asociado a la fisioterapia habitual. El grupo de control recibió solo fisioterapia habitual durante el mismo periodo. El resultado primario fue la saturación periférica de oxígeno, mientras que los resultados secundarios fueron los signos vitales y el equilibrio autonómico evaluados por la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardíaca (frecuencia alta - HF, frecuencia baja - LF, relación LF/HF). Se observó que la saturación periférica de oxígeno y la presión arterial no presentaron cambios al alta hospitalaria. Hubo un aumento similar en la frecuencia cardíaca y la frecuencia respiratoria en ambos grupos. El grupo BiPAP tuvo una reducción del componente LF (simpático) en −27,1 n.u. (IC 95% −39 a −15,2), incremento de HF (parasimpático) en 27,1 n.u. (IC 95% 15,2 a 39) y mejora en la relación LF/HF en −2,5 (IC 95% −3,8 a −1,2) en comparación con el grupo de control. La BiPAP redujo la actividad simpática y mejoró la modulación vagal y el equilibrio autonómico al alta hospitalaria. Estos hallazgos muestran que la BiPAP permite mecanismos autonómicos más eficientes durante la hospitalización después de una cirugía cardíaca.

ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effect of dietary 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25(OH)D3) or vitamin D3 (VitD3) and different total calcium (Ca) levels on the performance, carcass characteristics, blood, enzymatic, and bone biochemistry of broilers reared under heat stress between 1 and 42 days of age. A total of 504 male, Cobb 500, broiler chickens were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement (VitD3 or 25(OH)D3 × four Ca levels (100, 90, 80 and 70% of the recommendations of Rostagno et al. (2011)), eight treatments, seven replicates and nine broilers per cage. Feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not (p>0.05) vary when levels of Ca were reduced and vitamin D3 sources were supplemented in the diets from 1 to 21 days for broilers chickens. 25 (OH)D3 increased weight gain results (p<0.05). From 1 to 42 d, no differences (p>0.05) were observed on performance, carcass yields and meat quality, bone deposition of Ca and P, and alkaline phosphatase concentration. Higher serum (p<0.05) concentrations of Ca and P were found in broilers fed with 25(OH)D3. The replacement of VitD3 with 25(OH)D3 and the Ca reduction of 30% in diets did not negatively affect performance, carcass characteristics, and Ca and P deposition in the tibia of broilers at 42 days of age, under heat stress.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a resposta da modulação autonômica cardíaca e a capacidade funcional em idosas fisicamente ativas. Métodos: Setenta e cinco mulheres idosas (60 a 70 anos) da comunidade foram divididas nos seguintes grupos: sedentária (n = 19), hidroginástica (n = 18), pilates (n = 19) e dança (n = 19). A pressão arterial, a composição corporal, a variabilidade da frequência cardíaca e a capacidade funcional foram avaliadas para a caracterização dos grupos em repouso e 48 horas depois da última sessão de exercício físico. Resultados: O grupo sedentário apresentou maior relação cintura-quadril, pressão arterial diastólica e frequência cardíaca em repouso quando comparado aos outros grupos (p <0,05). Observou-se também que o grupo da dança apresentou melhores escores de capacidade funcional e VO2pico (todos p < 0,05). Com relação à modulação autonômica cardíaca, os grupos de dança e pilates demonstraram melhores escores para RMSSD (26,71 ± 9,07 e 29,82 ± 7,16, respectivamente; p < 0,05), LF (45,79 ± 14,81 e 45,95 ± 15,16 nu, respectivamente; p<0,05) e LF/HF (0,92 ± 0,56 e 0,58 ± 0,26, respectivamente; p < 0,05). Na análise simbólica, o grupo da dança apresentou maior predominância da modulação autonômica parassimpática do que os demais grupos (p < 0,05). Conclusão: Esses resultados concluem que idosas fisicamente ativas praticantes de hidroginástica, pilates ou dança, têm benefícios fisiológicos, como melhor capacidade funcional e melhora das variáveis hemodinâmicas e da modulação cardíaca autonômica. Além disso, o grupo que praticava dança teve maior modulação parassimpática e maior capacidade funcional quando comparado com outras modalidades. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze cardiac autonomic modulation response and functional capacity in physically active older women. Methods: Seventy-five older women (60-70 years) from the community were divided into the following groups: sedentary (n=19), hydro-gymnastics (n=18), pilates (n=19), and dance (n=19). Blood pressure, body composition, heart rate variability, and functional capacity were assessed for the characterization of the groups at rest and 48 hours after the last physical exercise session. Results: The sedentary group presented higher waist-to-hip ratio, diastolic blood pressure, and resting heart rate compared to the other groups (p<0.05). It was also observed that the dance group presented better functional capacity and VO2peak scores (all p<0.05). Regarding cardiac autonomic modulation, both dance and pilates groups demonstrated better RMSSD (26.71 ± 9.07 and 29.82 ± 7.16, respectively; p<0.05), LF (45.79 ± 14.81 and 45.95 ± 15.16 n.u., respectively; p<0.05), and LF/HF (0.92 ± 0.56 and 0.58 ± 0.26, respectively; p<0.05) scores. In the symbolic analysis, the dance group had a greater predominance of parasympathetic autonomic modulation than the other groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results conclude that physically active elderly women, practicing hydro-gymnastics, pilates or dance, presented physiological benefits, such as better functional capacity and improvements in hemodynamic variables and autonomic cardiac modulation. In addition, the group that practiced dance presented greater parasympathetic modulation, as well as greater functional capacity, when compared to the other modalities. Métodos: Setenta y cinco mujeres mayores (60 a 70 años) de la comunidad fueron divididas en los siguientes grupos: sedentaria (n = 19), hidrogimnasia (n = 18), pilates (n = 19) y danza (n = 19). La presión arterial, la composición corporal, la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardíaca y la capacidad funcional fueron evaluadas para la caracterización de los grupos en reposo y 48 horas después de la última sesión de ejercicio físico. Resultados: El grupo sedentario presentó mayor relación cintura-cadera, presión arterial diastólica y frecuencia cardíaca en reposo cuando comparado a los otros grupos (p <0,05). Se observó que el grupo de danza presentó mejores puntajes de capacidad funcional y VO2Pico (todos p <0,05). Con relación a la modulación autonómica cardíaca, los grupos de danza y pilates demostraron mejores puntajes para RMSSD (26,71 ± 9,07 y 29,82 ± 7,16, respectivamente; p <0,05), LF (45,79 ± 14,81 y 45,95 ± 15,16 nu, respectivamente; p <0,05), y LF/HF (0,92 ± 0,56 y 0,58 ± 0,26, respectivamente; p <0,05). En el análisis simbólico, el grupo de danza presentó mayor predominancia de la modulación autonómica parasimpática que los demás grupos (p <0,05). The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)-heart failure (HF) coexistence on linear and nonlinear dynamics of heart rate variability (HRV). Forty-one patients (14 with COPD-HF and 27 HF) were enrolled and underwent pulmonary function and echocardiography evaluation to confirm the clinical diagnosis. Heart rate (HR) and R-R intervals (iRR) were collected during active postural maneuver (APM) [supine (10 min) to orthostasis (10 min)], respiratory sinus arrhythmia maneuver (RSA-M) (4 min), and analysis of frequency domain, time domain, and nonlinear HRV. We found expected autonomic response during orthostatic changes with reduction of mean iRR, root mean square of successive differences between heart beats (RMSSD), RR tri index, and high-frequency [HF (nu)] and an increased mean HR, low-frequency [LF (nu)], and LF/HF (nu) compared with supine only in HF patients (P<0.05). Patients with COPD-HF coexistence did not respond to postural change. In addition, in the orthostatic position, higher HF nu and lower LF nu and LF/HF (nu) were observed in COPD-HF compared with HF patients. HF patients showed an opposite response during RSA-M, with increased sympathetic modulation (LF nu) and reduced parasympathetic modulation (HF nu) (P<0.05) compared with COPD-HF patients. COPD-HF directly influenced cardiac autonomic modulation during active postural change and controlled breathing, demonstrating an autonomic imbalance during sympathetic and parasympathetic maneuvers compared with isolated HF.

Abstract Aim: This study aimed to explore the effects of a training program during the pre-season on aerobic and anaerobic performance, hemodynamics, autonomic variables, and sleep quality in youth soccer players. Methods: Nineteen athletes, with an average age of 17 ± 1 years, participated in the study. The multicomponent training protocol was divided into technical, tactical, and physical practice for four weeks. The cardiac autonomic modulation was obtained through an electrocardiogram and blood pressure values were measured by a sphygmomanometer. The athletes answered the Pittsburgh questionnaire that assessed sleep patterns and issues. The VO2max was analyzed using the Intermittent Recovery Test Yo-Yo level 1. The RAST test was used to assess anaerobic power. Results: There was improvement in Heart Rate Variability (HRV) indicated by the increase in indexes, mean square root of the differences between normal cycles (RMSSD), low frequency increase (LF) (p = 0.04; d = 0.70), high frequency decrease (HF) (p = 0.01; d = 1.02) and the LF / HF sympathovagal index (p = 0.03; d = 0.70), variables related to faster recovery. An improvement in the components of sleep duration (p = 0.03) and quality (p = 0.02) of baseline and post-intervention sleep was also observed. Conclusion: The four-week multicomponent protocol contributed to improving VO2max, improving fatigue rates, quality of sleep, and maximum power. Additionally, we observe that youth soccer athletes had physiological and hemodynamic adaptations that resulted in an improvement in cardiac autonomic modulation and sleep patterns after four weeks of training.
