RESUMO A produção de búfalos domésticos desempenha um papel economicamente importante na Amazônia brasileira, mas eles são suscetíveis a muitas doenças favorecidas pelo clima tropical e habitats inundados anualmente, incluindo doenças oculares. Nesse contexto, é importante selecionar genótipos que maximizem a imunidade ocular inata em rebanhos amazônicos. Objetivamos caracterizar, pela primeira vez, perfis de expressão gênica do sistema imune inato na membrana conjuntival de búfalos. Amostras de tecido conjuntival ocular foram coletadas de 60 animais clinicamente saudáveis abatidos no estado do Amapá, norte do Brasil. As amostras foram processadas histologicamente para classificação em três grupos de acordo com o grau quantitativo de tecido linfoide associado à conjuntiva (discreta, G1; leve, G2; e moderada, G3 presença de tecido linfoide). RT-PCR foi utilizado para quantificar a expressão gênica de citocinas inflamatórias (IL6, IL10, TNFA, IFNG), receptor Toll-like 4 (TLR4) e Defensina beta 110 (DEFB110), em relação ao gene GAPDH endógeno. Os animais do G1 apresentaram baixa expressão para IL6, IL10, TNFA e DEFB110, enquanto G2 exibiu alta expressão para IL6, IL10, IFNG e TLR4. Todos os animais do G3 apresentaram alta expressão para todos os genes testados. Esses resultados sugerem maior resistência aos microrganismos patogênicos dos búfalos do grupo G3, e a proporção de tecido linfoide associado à conjuntiva pode estar relacionada à resistência imunológica dos indivíduos.

ABSTRACT Domestic buffalo production plays an economically important role in the Brazilian Amazon, but they are susceptible to many diseases favored by the tropical climate and annually flooded habitats, including ocular diseases. In this context, it is important to select genotypes that maximize innate ocular immunity in Amazonian herds. We aimed to characterise, for the first time, gene expression profiles of the innate immune system in the conjunctival membrane of buffalo. Ocular conjunctival tissue samples were collected from 60 clinically healthy slaughtered animals in the northern Brazilian state of Amapá. The samples were histologically processed for classification into three groups according to the quantitative degree of lymphoid tissue associated with the conjunctiva (discrete, G1; slight, G2; and moderate, G3 presence of lymphoid tissue). RT-PCR was used to quantify gene expression of inflammatory cytokine (IL6, IL10, TNFA, IFNG), Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), and Defensin beta 110 (DEFB110), relative to the endogenous GAPDH gene. G1 animals presented low expression for IL6, IL10, TNFA, and DEFB110, while G2 exhibited high expression for IL6, IL10, IFNG, and TLR4. All G3 animals showed high expression for all tested genes. These results suggest a greater resistance to pathogenic microorganisms of buffalos in the G3 group, and the proportion of lymphoid tissue associated with the conjunctiva may be related to the immune resistance of individuals.

ABSTRACT The epidemiology of salmonellosis in poultry is complex, which makes it difficult to identify the origin and spread of this disease in poultry farms. The aims of this study were to characterize the spatial distribution of Salmonella enterica in epidemiological units in Paraná, Brazil; and to investigate correlations between this microorganism and associated factors. Among the epidemiological units, 78 of 243 (32.10%) were positive. Spatially, the northwestern and western regions had higher concentrations of positive cases than the other regions. In bivariate analyses, the presence of other animal species in the epidemiological unit (prevalence ratio, PR = 0.64; 95% confidence interval, CI = 0.43–0.95; p = 0.022) and proximity to establishments at risk (PR = 0.51; 95% CI = 0.32–0.81; p = 0.001) did not influence positivity, but the average population per poultry shed (between 30,501 and 32,500; PR = 2.57; 95% CI = 1.72–3.83; p = 0.001) was associated with Salmonella positivity. Multiple logistic regression demonstrated that the average population per poultry shed, presence of surrounding risk-posing establishments and presence of surrounding poultry sheds produced a significant multiple model for S. enterica. The results indicated that the presence of S. enterica may be related to higher density broiler in poultry sheds, presence of surrounding poultry sheds, proximity between positive and negative epidemiological units and altitude of the municipality. The information obtained showed that some factors were related to positivity for this microorganism and emphasizes the importance of serotyping to obtain other epidemiological data.

Resumo O artigo busca analisar a relação entre Desenvolvimento Sustentável e condições de saúde em áreas de risco. Para tanto, foi realizado um survey em Bissau, capital de Guiné-Bissau, África. Como procedimento metodológico principal foram construídos: Índice de Ocorrência de Doenças (IOD), Índice de Acesso a Serviços de Saúde (IASS) e Índice de Saneamento Básico (ISB), os quais permitiram analisar quantitativamente, e na perspectiva dos Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS), a relação entre saúde e saneamento. Os principais resultados mostraram que as metas do Objetivo 3 do Desenvolvimento Sustentável, Saúde e Bem-Estar, encontram-se ameaçadas devido à falta de infraestrutura de saneamento, baixa escolaridade e baixa renda familiar. Em áreas de risco como a estudada no artigo, as demandas por saúde perpassam por diversos ODS, especialmente aqueles voltados para atender às necessidades humanas: Objetivo 1 (Erradicação da pobreza), Objetivo 2 (Segurança Alimentar), Objetivo 6 (Saneamento) e Objetivo 10 (Desigualdade entre países).

Abstract The paper analyses the relationship between sustainable development and health conditions in hazardous areas. Therefore, we conducted a survey in Bissau, capital of Guinea-Bissau, Africa. The main methodological procedures were the Disease Occurrence Index (DOI), Access Index Health Services (AIHS) and Sanitation Index (SI), which allowed the quantitative analysis of the relationship between health and sanitation with regard to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The main results showed that the targets of Goal 3 - Sustainable Development, Health and Welfare - are threatened due to lack of sanitation infrastructure, low education and low income. In hazardous areas, as studied in the article, health demands permeate several SDG.

Resumen El artículo busca analizar la relación entre las condiciones de salud y el desarrollo sostenible en zonas de riesgo. Se realizó una encuesta en Bissau, capital de Guinea Bissau, África. Como procedimiento metodológico fueron construidos: el Índice de ocurrencia de enfermedades (DCI), el Índice de Acceso Servicios a la Salud (IASS) y el Índice de Saneamiento (IS), lo que permitió analizar cuantitativamente y bajo la perspectiva de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) la relación entre salud y saneamiento. Los principales resultados mostraron que las metas del Objetivo 3 de Desarrollo Sostenible, Salud y Bienestar, están amenazadas debido a la falta de infraestructura de saneamiento, baja escolaridad y bajos ingresos familiares. En las áreas de riesgo como la estudiada en el artículo, las demandas por salud están incluidas en varios ODS, especialmente los orientados a satisfacer las necesidades humanas: Objetivo 1 (Erradicación de la pobreza), Objetivo 2 (Seguridad Alimentaria), Objetivo 6 (Saneamiento) y Objetivo 10 (Desigualdad entre países).

Assumindo como premissa a integração com outro modal de transporte e como origem a cidade de Sorriso, maior produtora de soja do estado do MT, o modelo matemático de minimização de custo de transporte intermodal origem-destino, foi aplicado. Para tal, utilizou-se o software de otimização GUSEK, que permite a solução de modelos de Programação Linear e Programação Linear Inteira Mista. Seis rotas intermodais foram encontradas e o número de viagens para os portos de destino foram: Santos - SP (26.277.800 viagens/ano -modais: Rodoviário - Ferroviário), Paranaguá - PR (4.865.560 viagens/ano - modais: Rodoviário -Ferroviário), São Francisco do Sul - SC (8.278.890 viagens/ano - modais: Rodoviário - Ferroviário), Vitória - ES (4.062.220 viagens/ano - modais: Rodoviário - Ferroviário), Manaus - AM (7.990.830 viagens/ano - modais: Rodoviário -Hidroviário) e São Luiz - MA (226.667 viagens/ano - modais: Rodoviário -Ferroviário).

Assuming as a premise the integration with another transportation mode, and assuming the city of Sorriso, the greatest soy manufacturer of the State of MT as the origin, the intermodal mathematic model of minimization of origin-destination transportation cost was applied. For such, the optimization software GUSEK was used, which allows the solution of models of Linear Programming or Mixed Integer Linear Programming. Six intermodal routes were found and the number of voyages for the destination ports were: Santos - SP (26.277.800 voyages/year - modes: Road -Railway), Paranaguá - PR (4.865.560 voyages/year- modes: Road - Railway), São Francisco do Sul - SC (8.278.890 voyages/year- modes: Road - Railway), Vitória - ES (4.062.220 voyages/year - modes: Road - Railway), Manaus - AM (7.990.830 voyages/year - modes: Road - Waterway) e São Luiz - MA (226.667 voyages/year - modes: Road -Railway).
