RESUMO Os sistemas de saneamento básico não são suficientes para atender as necessidades sanitárias nas áreas rurais do Brasil. Assim, um sistema anaeróbio descentralizado foi desenvolvido pela Embrapa para viabilizar o tratamento de esgoto doméstico. O efluente de esgoto tratado (EET) pode ser aplicado para substituir totalmente o N oriundo do fertilizante mineral requerido pelas plantas de milho, espécie vegetal típica cultivada por pequenos produtores brasileiros para alimentação animal. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as respostas da cultura do milho ao uso de EET como fertilizante. Um experimento de campo foi realizado em solo franco argilo arenoso em São Carlos, estado de São Paulo, Brasil, na safra de verão 2018-2019 utilizando uma cultivar de milho híbrido com dupla aptidão (produção de grãos e silagem). Foram avaliados quatro tratamentos sobre a aplicação de diferentes fontes de nutrientes, dispostos em blocos casualizados com três repetições: 1- NPK: uréia, superfosfato simples e cloreto de potássio como fontes de nutrientes; 2- EfPK: EET como fonte de N + PK de fertilizantes minerais; 3- Ef: apenas EET; 4- PK: apenas fertilizantes minerais. O EET foi aplicado na cultura por irrigação por sulcos curtos e fechados. O EET pode ser utilizado principalmente como fonte de nitrogênio e outros nutrientes para a nutrição da cultura do milho com base no conhecimento das concentrações de nutrientes do efluente. A aplicação fracionada de EET por fertirrigação pode levar a parâmetros de produtividade do milho próximos aos da aplicação de NPK utilizando apenas fertilizantes minerais como fonte de nutrientes. O reaproveitamento desse efluente é viável para a produção de milho em pequena escala, típica da agricultura familiar brasileira.

ABSTRACT The basic sanitation systems are not enough to meet the sanitary requirements in the rural areas of Brazil. Hence, a decentralized anaerobic system was developed by Embrapa to enable the treatment of domestic sewage. The treated sewage effluent (TSE) should be applied to completely replace the N from mineral fertilizer required by corn plants, a typical crop cultivated by Brazilian smallholder farmings for animal feed. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the corn crop responses to the use of TSE as fertilizer. A field experiment was carried out in a sandy clay loam soil at São Carlos, state of São Paulo, Brazil, over 2018-2019 summer growing season of a hybrid corn cultivar with dual aptitude (grain and silage production). Four treatments about application of different nutrient sources were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications: 1- NPK: urea, simple superphosphate and potassium chloride as nutrient sources; 2- EfPK: TSE as N source + PK from mineral fertilizers; 3- Ef: TSE only; 4- PK: mineral fertilizers only. TSE was applied to crop by short and closed-end furrow irrigation. TSE can be used as a source of nitrogen mainly and other nutrients for corn crop nutrition based on the knowledge of effluent nutrient concentrations. TSE split application through fertirrigation can lead to corn yield parameters close to those from NPK application using only mineral fertilizers as nutrient sources. The reuse of this wastewater is feasible for small-scale corn production which is typical of Brazilian smallholder farming.

Abstract Because it promotes the lightening of pigment spots, tyrosinase inhibition is one of the mechanisms of depigmenting cosmetic products. Considering the adverse effects produced by synthetic depigmenting actives, the search for new therapeutic options is desirable, and plant extracts are possible candidates for hyperpigmentation treatment. Glycolic extracts of Cecropia pachystachya Trécul are, therefore, the focus of this study. Its chemical characterization, antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibition, and cell viability were evaluated. Glycolic extracts were obtained by macerating the leaves of C. pachystachya in grain alcohol and glycerin or propylene glycol. Both had a similar chemical constitution, the glycerin being more efficient in concentrating phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Analyses by UHPLC-MS detected quinic acid, chlorogenic acid isomers, proanthocyanidin dimers type B and C, catechin/epicatechin, orientin/isoorientin, isoorientin 2”-O-xyloside, vitexin/isovitexin, and rutin. 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid was then quantified was then quantified, with predominance in the extract produced with propylene glycol. These extracts showed a high antioxidant capacity by the method of DPPH, β-carotene, and nitric oxide. As for depigmenting activity, both extracts were able to inhibit tyrosinase. Cell viability assay also revealed that the extracts could safely be used in concentrations of ≤ 125 µg/mL. Thus, this study demonstrated for the first time that the glycolic extracts of C. pachystachya have promising chemical and biological characteristics for the development of a multifunctional cosmetic with antioxidant and tyrosinase-inhibition activities.

RESUMO: As plantas medicinais são geralmente comercializadas secas, no entanto, as temperaturas utilizadas nos processos de secagem podem interferir no teor e composição química dos óleos essenciais destas plantas. A Lippia origanoides possui timol em seu óleo essencial, que se encontra armazenado em tricomas glandulares. O timol é um componente majoritário de importância econômica na indústria química e farmacêutica. O objetivo do trabalho foi estudar o efeito das temperaturas de secagem de folhas de L. origanoides na integridade dos tricomas, teor e composição química do óleo essencial. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos definidos por temperaturas de secagem em estufa (40ºC, 50ºC, 60ºC e 70ºC) e quatro repetições. Foram realizadas extrações por hidrodestilação e determinação dos teores dos óleos essenciais (%), análise de composição química do óleo por cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massas e microscopia eletrônica de varredura para determinação da integridade dos tricomas. A secagem das folhas de L. origanoides em estufa de ventilação forçada a 40ºC minimizou a perda do teor de óleo essencial extraído (17,5g kg-1) e porcentagem relativa de timol. Folhas secas em temperatura de 60 e 70ºC exibiram maior porcentagem de tricomas rompidos e redução do teor de óleo essencial para 13,7g kg-1 e 11,8g kg-1, respectivamente.

ABSTRACT: Medicinal plants are generally commercialized dried. However, temperatures used in their drying processes may interfere with the content and chemical composition of their essential oils. The Lippia origanoides possesses thymol in the essential oil that is stored in glandular trichomes. Thymol is a major component of economic importance in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the drying temperatures of L. origanoides leaves regarding trichome integrity, content, and chemical composition of the essential oil. The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments defined by oven drying temperatures (40, 50, 60, and 70ºC) and four replications. Essential oil was extracted by hydro distillation and the essential oil contents were determined (%). Chemical composition of the oil was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Scanning electron microscopy was carried out to determine trichome integrity. Drying the L. origanoides leaves in a forced ventilation oven at 40°C minimized the loss of extracted essential oil content (17.5g kg-1) and relative thymol percentage. Leaves dried at the temperatures of 60 and 70ºC exhibited a higher percentage of ruptured trichomes and reduced essential oil content to 13.7g kg-1 and 11.8g kg-1, respectively.

RESUMO A Declaração de Óbito (DO) é o documento-base do Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade, do Ministério da Saúde. Contudo, trata-se de um assunto pouco abordado na formação médica continuada. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o nível de conhecimento sobre questões básicas e de ordem prática no preenchimento e emissão da DO em alunos do 12º período do curso médico da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), em médicos residentes e em médicos docentes do Complexo Hospitalar da UFRN. Foram aplicados questionários com 11 questões de mútipla escolha, elaborado de acordo com o Manual de Preenchimento de Declaração de Óbito. Participaram da pesquisa 45 alunos, 66 médicos residentes e 96 médicos professores. Os médicos residentes obtiveram a melhor média de acerto entre as categorias. Nenhuma das três categorias obteve média de acertos de 70%. Considerando o tempo de formação em relação ao número de acertos, observou-se que, para cada ano de formação, em média, a porcentagem de acerto diminui em 0,485%. Este estudo evidencia a importância de uma educação médica continuada nas faculdades de Medicina para um adequado preenchimento e emissão da DO.

ABSTRACT The death certificate is the base document for the Ministry of Health’s Mortality Information System. However, this is a subject rarely addressed in continuing medical education. The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge about basic and practical issues in completing and issuing death certificates among 6th year medical students from UFRN, residents and medical professors from the UFRN Hospital Complex. A questionnaire was used containing eleven multiple choice questions, prepared in accordance with the Death Certificate Completion Manual. 45 students, 66 medical residents and 96 medical professors participated in the study. The residents obtained the highest average score of the three groups. None of the groups obtained a mean score of 70%. Considering the amount of training in relation to the number of correct answers, it was observed that for each year of training, the success rate decreased by 0.485%. This study highlights the importance of continuing medical education in medical schools for proper completion and issuance of death certificates.

O objetivo do presente trabalho é apresentar o dilema sucedido no setor de fabricantes de aeronaves para a aviação comercial referente à inserção de novas tecnologias e o ingresso de novas empresas neste mercado ao longo do ano de 2011. Destacamos a questão da posição ocupada pela empresa Embraer neste cenário diante do duplo desafio que se apresentou: como manter sua posição de destaque no segmento em que já era líder (de 61 a 120 assentos), mediante a chegada de novos concorrentes; e, por outro lado, ponderar a possibilidade de ingressar em um novo segmento que historicamente é dominado pelo duopólio Airbus-Boeing (superior a 120 assentos). O arcabouço teórico busca articular tais questões à Teoria dos Jogos, instrumental utilizado para analisar as estratégias das empresas concorrentes no setor e suas tomadas de decisões diretamente relacionadas e influenciadas pelas tomadas de decisões dos adversários. As decisões posteriormente efetivadas levaram a Embraer a promover mudanças nos motores das aeronaves da família E-Jet, visando a manutenção da liderança no segmento, ao passo que a possibilidade de ingresso em um novo segmento foi descartada.

The objective of this paper is to present in summary form the dilemma that was placed in commercial aviation sector, about the insertion of new technologies and the entrance of new firms passed along the year of 2011.The emphasis is the position held by Embraer in this new scene, face to a double challenge that now appears: how to keep its prominent position in the segment that it leads (from 61 to 120 seats), upon the arrival of new competitors; and how to consider the possibility of stepping in a new segment which is historically led by the duopoly Airbus-Boeing (superior to 120 seats). The theoretical framework seeks to articulate these questions to Game Theory, instrument used by microeconomics to analyze the strategies of competitors companies in the sector and their decision making directly related and influenced by the opponent decision making. The decisions taken subsequently led Embraer to promote changes in aircraft engines of the E-Jet family, aiming to maintain the leadership in the segment, while the possibility of entering into a new segment was discarded.
