ABSTRACT: The use of plant resistance acts by intervening in the herbivore-host relationship, through morphological, physical or chemical factors of the plant. This study evaluated the oviposition and foliar consumption of Chrysodeixis includens (Walker [1858]) in soybean genotypes, in free- and no-choice tests, correlating them with the factors, density and size of trichomes. The experiments were carried out in laboratory (25 ± 2 °C; RH= 70 ± 10%; photoperiod 14h) using five cultivars (BRS 391, BRS 6203 RR, BMX Valente RR, Tec Irga 6070 RR, BMX Icone Ipro) and two isolines (PELBR 10-6000 and PELBR 10-6049). The trichomes reported were filiform tectors and claviform multicellular glandular. The density of glandular trichomes, in stages V2 and V5, was higher on BRS 6203 RR and BRS 391, respectively. The higher density of glandular trichomes was observed in V5 and a higher density of tector trichomes in V2. The lowest densities and the smallest sizes of trichomes in V2 and V5 stages was observed on PELBR 10-6049. The size of tector trichomes and the number of eggs did not differ among the cultivars. Foliar consumption was lower for on BMX Icone Ipro and Tec Irga 6070 RR. Trichome density influences the consumption and oviposition behavior of C. includens.

RESUMO: O uso da resistência de plantas atua intervindo na relação herbívoro-hospedeiro, através de fatores morfológicos, físicos ou químicos da planta. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a oviposição e o consumo foliar de Chrysodeixis includens (Walker [1858]) em genótipos de soja, através de testes com e sem escolha, correlacionando-os com os fatores, densidade e tamanho de tricomas. Os experimentos foram realizados em laboratório (25 ± 2 °C; UR= 70 ± 10%; fotoperíodo 14h) utilizando cinco cultivares (BRS 391, BRS 6203 RR, BMX Valente RR, Tec Irga 6070 RR, BMX Icone Ipro) e duas linhagens (PELBR 10-6000 e PELBR 10-6049). Os tricomas encontrados foram tectores filiformes e glandulares multicelulares claviformes. A densidade de tricomas glandulares nos estágios V2 e V5, foi maior em BRS 6203 RR e BRS 391, respectivamente. A maior densidade de tricomas glandulares foi observada em V5 e a maior densidade de tricomas tectores em V2. As menores densidades e os menores tamanhos de tricomas nos estágios V2 e V5 foram observados em PELBR 10-6049. O tamanho de tricomas tectores e o número de ovos não diferiram entre as cultivares. O consumo foliar foi menor para BMX Icone Ipro e Tec Irga 6070 RR. A densidade de tricomas influência o comportamento de consumo e oviposição de C. includens.

Resumen: El polimorfismo R577X del gen ACTN3 determina la expresión de la proteína alfa-actinina 3 en la musculatura humana. El genotipo homocigoto XX no logra sintetizar alfa-actinina 3 y se asocia a una menor fuerza muscular que el genotipo RR. Las enfermedades neuromusculares (ENM) generan pérdida acelerada de fuerza muscular, y su relación con el gen ACTN3 no ha sido establecida. Objetivo: Describir las variables de fuerza, resistencia muscular respiratoria y función pulmonar en pacientes con ENM que presentan el polimorfismo R577X del gen ACTN3. Pacientes y Método: Estudio observational descriptivo. Fueron evaluados 6 sujetos entre 10 y 14 años, con diagnóstico de ENM atendidos en el Hospital Dr. Exequiel González Cortés, Santiago, Chile. Fueron genotipificados con el polimorfismo R577X de ACTN3 mediante reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR). La medición de función pulmonar se realizó con espirometría. La fuerza muscular se evaluó con Presión inspiratoria máxima (PIMax), Presión espiratoria máxima (PEMax) y Fuerza prensil manual (FPM). La resistencia muscular respiratoria fue evaluada mediante tiempo límite (TLim). Resultados: La mediana y percentil 25-75 [Med(p25-p75)] del porcentajes de límite inferior (%Li) para FPM, PIMax y PEMax fue: 36,01 (16,88-53,30)%, 68,88 (41,07-89,59)% y 38,74 (27,74-56,90)% respectivamente. La Med(p25-p75) de TLim fue 299,0 (113,3-356,3) segundos. La genotipificación del polimorfismo R577X de ACTN3: en 2 sujetos fue XX, en 2 RX y en 2 RR. Conclusiones: Los sujetos presentaron alteraciones espirométricas ventilatorias restrictivas y disminución de la fuerza muscular al contrastarlo con los valores de referencia. No se pudo establecer relación con el polimorfismo del gen ACTN3.

Abstract: The ACTN3 R577X polymorphism determines the expression of alpha-actinin 3 protein in human muscle. The homozygous XX genotype fails to synthesize alpha-actinin 3 and is associated with lower muscle strength than the RR genotype. Neuromuscular diseases (NMD) generate an accelerated loss of muscle strength, and their relationship with the ACTN3 gene has not been established. Objective: To describe the variables of strength, respiratory muscle endurance, and lung function in patients with NMD who present the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism. Patients and Method: Descriptive observational study. Six subjects between 10 and 14 years old, with a diagnosis of NMD, treated at the Hospital Dr. Exequiel González Cortés in Santiago, Chile, were evaluated. They were genotyped with the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Lung function was measured by spirometry. Muscle strength was evaluated with maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), and grip strength (GS). Respiratory muscle endurance was evaluated by time limit (TLim). Results: The median and 25-75th percentile [Med(p25-p75)] of the lower limit percentages (%Li) for GS, MIP, and MEP were: 36.01% (16.88-53.3o), 68.88% (41.07-89.59), and 38.74% (27.74-56.90), respectively. The Med(p25-p75) of TLim was 299.0 (113.3-356.3) seconds. Regarding the genotyping of the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism, in 2 subjects it was XX, in 2 RX, and in 2 RR. Conclusions: The subjects presented restrictive ventilatory spirometric alterations and decreased muscle strength when compared with the reference values. No relationship could be established with the ACTN3 gene polymorphism.

RESUMO: A hidroterapia apresenta crescente aplicação no ramo da reabilitação animal, com o intuito de aumentar a força, resistência muscular e amplitude de movimento articular, além de reduzir a dor e melhorar o condicionamento físico do paciente. Assim como a hidroterapia, a atividade desenvolvida em solo é indicada para diversas afecções, inclusive para pacientes hipertensos, com atrofia muscular ou com sobrepeso. São escassos os estudos que avaliam a segurança de testes incrementais em esteira aquática e em esteira seca em American Pit Bull Terriers. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da atividade em esteira aquática e em esteira seca sobre os parâmetros fisiológicos de cães. Para isto, cães da raça American Pit Bull Terrier (n=12) machos, adultos, saudáveis e não treinados foram submetidos a teste de esforço incremental (TEI) em hidroesteira com água (Grupo I) e sem água (Grupo II). A frequência cardíaca (FR), frequência respiratória (FR), temperatura retal (TR), pressão arterial sistólica (PAS) e avaliação eletrocardiográfica, foram aferidas antes da atividade (T0), imediatamente após (T1), 30 minutos após (T2) e 90 minutos após o exercício (T3), e a concentração plasmática de lactato foi dosada nos momentos T0, T1 e T2. Os resultados foram submetidos ao teste de Shapiro-Wilk, análise de variância (ANOVA) e pelo Teste de Tukey, considerando significativo o valor de P < 0.05. Houve diminuição da frequência respiratória (P = 0,00674) após a atividade em esteira aquática, que se mostrou mais exigente que a atividade em esteira terrestre, considerando a apresentação de padrão respiratório mais lento e profundo. As sessões de exercício em ambos os grupos não elevaram a concentração de lactato. O teste de esforço incremental em esteira aquática, ou em esteira seca, pode ser desenvolvido com segurança por cães American Pit Bull saudáveis.

ABSTRACT: The application of hydrotherapy is growing in the field of animal rehabilitation to improve strength, endurance, fitness, and range of motion, in addition to reducing pain. In the same way, land-based activity is recommended for various conditions, including hypertension, muscle atrophy, and obesity. There is a lack of studies that evaluate the safety of incremental exercise in American Pit Bull Terriers. This study assessed the influence of activity on underwater and dry land treadmills on the physiological parameters of dogs. In this regard, 12 adult, male, healthy, and untrained American Pit Bull Terriers were subjected to an incremental exercise test (IET) on the underwater treadmill (Group I) and the dry land treadmill (Group II). Heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), rectal temperature (RT), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and electrocardiographic evaluation, were evaluated before activity (T0), immediately after (T1), 30 min after (T2), and 90 min after the end of exercise (T3), and plasmatic lactate concentrations were measured at T0, T1, and T2 time points. Results obtained were submitted to the Shapiro-Wilk test, ANOVA and Tukey’s test, considering P<0.05. Water activity induced a reduction in RR (P=0.00674) in all examinations after the test on the underwater treadmill and proved to be more demanding than activity on the land treadmill, considering the presence of a deeper and slower RR. Exercise sessions in both groups did not elevate the lactate concentration. The IET can be performed safely on an underwater or dry land treadmill in healthy American Pit Bulls.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de diferentes dosis (0,10, 20, 30, 40 y 50 t ha-1) de fibra de coco verde en sustrato de crecimiento sobre el desarrollo temprano y la fisiología de dos cultivares de soya (Pampeana 40RR y Pampeana 60RR). El experimento se llevó a cabo en un invernadero utilizando un diseño experimental completamente al azar en un arreglo factorial de 2x6 (dos genotipos y seis dosis) con cinco repeticiones. Cada repetición estuvo formada por una planta, totalizando 60 unidades experimentales. Se evaluaron variables biométricas (altura, número de hojas, diámetro del tallo, área foliar y masa seca) y fisiológicas (fotosíntesis, conductancia estomática, transpiración, carbono interno, eficiencia en el uso del agua y pigmentos fotosintéticos). Después de obtener los datos, a los 30 d después de la siembra, las medias fueron sometidas a análisis de varianza y, cuando fueron significativas según la prueba F, fueron sometidas a análisis de regresión y comparación de medias por la prueba de Tukey. A través del análisis de regresión, fue posible calcular la dosis mínima ideal para cada variable. Se observó un aumento en la altura de la planta, el diámetro del tallo, el número de hojas, el área foliar, la masa seca de hojas, masa seca de tallo y masa seca de raíces de alrededor de 51.10%, 31.60%, 52.83 %, 61.78%, 79.65%, 81.52%, y 6.06%, respectivamente, cuando comparamos los valores de las dosis mínimas con los puntos máximos encontrados en cada variable. En cuanto al intercambio de gases, el cultivar 60 RR fue superior al cultivar 40 RR. En conclusión, el compuesto de fibra de coco verde influyó positivamente en el crecimiento y fisiología de los cultivares, obteniendo la mejor respuesta con la dosis de 30 t ha-1.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different doses (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 t ha-1) of green coconut fiber in growth substrate on the early development and physiology of two soybean cultivars (Pampeana 40RR and Pampeana 60RR). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a completely randomized experimental design in a 2x6 factorial arrangement (two genotypes and six doses) with five replicates. Each replicate was made up of one plant, totaling 60 experimental units. Biometric variables (height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, and dry matter) and physiological variables (photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal carbon, water use efficiency, and photosynthetic pigments) were evaluated. After obtaining the data 30 d after sowing, the means were subjected to an analysis of variance and, when significant for the F test, they were subjected to regression analysis and comparison of means by the Tukey's test. Through the regression analysis, the ideal minimum dose for each variable could be calculated. We observed an increase in plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, leaf dry mass, stem dry mass, and root dry mass of around 51.10%, 31.60%, 52.83%, 61.78%, 79.65%, 81.52%, and 6.06%, respectively, when we compared the values of the minimum doses with the maximum points found in each variable. Regarding the gas exchange, cultivar 60 RR was superior to cultivar 40 RR. In conclusion, the green coconut fiber compound had a positive influence on the growth and physiology of the cultivars, with the best response being obtained at the dose of 30 t ha-1.

RESUMO Objetivou-se: (i) propor um modelo de regressão para a associação entre a injúria em plantas de algodoeiro Roundup Ready (RR) e a deriva dos auxínicos, isolados ou associados ao glyphosate; (ii) avaliar o efeito da adição de glyphosate aos herbicidas auxínicos dicamba e 2,4-D sobre as propriedades físico-químicas das caldas de pulverização e (iii) validar o túnel de vento como ferramenta para realizar a predição de injúria de herbicidas. Foram conduzidos três experimentos, utilizando-se as caldas: glyphosate (0,225 kg e.a. ha-1); dicamba (0,120 kg e.a. ha-1); 2,4-D (0,168 kg e.a. ha-1); glyphosate + dicamba (0,225 + 0,120 kg e.a. ha-1) e glyphosate + 2,4-D (0,225 + 0,168 kg e.a. ha-1). No experimento I foi avaliada a deriva, em túnel de vento às distâncias de 5, 10 e 15 m em relação à ponta de pulverização. No experimento II foi avaliada a injúria em plantas de algodoeiro dispostas nas mesmas distâncias do experimento I. No experimento III estudaram-se as características físico-químicas das caldas utilizadas no experimento I, com avaliações de tensão superficial, pH e densidade. A deriva coletada e a injúria são diretamente proporcionais, seguindo o modelo de regressão linear simples, com aumento do potencial de deriva e injúria aos 5 m de distância da barra de pulverização. A adição de glyphosate aos herbicidas 2,4-D e dicamba reduzem a tensão superficial e o pH das caldas. O túnel de vento além de avaliar o potencial de deriva, apresenta-se como uma alternativa na predição de injúria em plantas de algodoeiro RR.

ABSTRACT The aim was: (i) to propose a regression model for the association between injury in Roundup Ready (RR) cotton plants and drift of auxins, isolated or associated with glyphosate; (ii) to evaluate the effect of adding glyphosate to dicamba and 2,4-D auxinic herbicides on the physicochemical properties of the spray solutions; and (iii) to validate the wind tunnel as a tool to perform herbicide injury prediction. Three experiments were conducted using the following spray solutions: glyphosate (0.225 kg a.e. ha-1); dicamba (0.120 kg a.e. ha-1); 2,4-D (0.168 kg a.e. ha-1); glyphosate + dicamba (0.225 + 0.120 kg a.e. ha -1) and glyphosate + 2,4-D (0.225 + 0.168 kg a.e. ha-1). Experiment I assessed drift in wind tunnel at distances of 5, 10 and 15 m from the nozzle spray drift. Experiment II assessed injury on cotton plants arranged at the same distances as in experiment I. Experiment III studied the physicochemical characteristics of the spray solutions used in experiment I, assessing surface tension, pH and density. The collected drift and injury are directly proportional, following a simple linear regression model, with increased drift and injury potential at 5 m from the sprayer. The addition of glyphosate to 2,4-D and dicamba herbicides reduced surface tension and pH of the spray solutions. The wind tunnel, besides evaluating drift potential, was found to be an alternative for the prediction of injury in RR cotton plants.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivos estimar parâmetros genéticos de procedências e progênies de polinização livre de taxi-branco e selecionar genótipos superiores quanto ao crescimento inicial em campo. O experimento foi instalado em 2015, no Campo experimental Serra da Prata, pertencente à Embrapa Roraima e localizado no Município de Mucajaí - RR. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso, com 28 progênies provenientes de três procedências e 20 repetições, sendo cada parcela experimental constituída por uma planta. Foram avaliados aos 6, 12 e 18 meses após o plantio, a porcentagem de sobrevivência, a altura da planta (ALT) e o diâmetro do caule a 10 cm do solo (DC) ou o diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP). As análises genético-estatísticas foram realizadas por meio do procedimento REML/BLUP, com análise de deviance, obtenção das estimativas dos parâmetros genéticos e predição dos valores genéticos nas diferentes idades. A sobrevivência geral variou de 50,68% a 62,10% aos 18 e aos 6 meses, respectivamente. As únicas diferenças significativas observadas foram entre progênies, para ALT e DC, aos seis meses. Com exceção do DAP avaliado aos 18 meses, as demais estimativas de herdabilidade em nível individual no sentido restrito foram moderadas, sendo estas inferiores às estimativas da herdabilidade da média de progênies. Os ganhos com a seleção de progênies e indivíduos foram de baixos a moderados e variaram entre as idades avaliadas, sendo decrescentes com o aumento da idade das plantas.

Abstract This study aimed to estimate the genetic parameters of open-pollinated Tachigali vulgaris provenances and progenies and select superior genotypes for initial growth in the field. The experiment was conducted in Campo experimental Serra da Prata which belongs to Embrapa Roraima and is located in the municipality of Mucajaí - RR. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with 28 progenies from three provenances and 20 repetitions. Each experimental plot consisted of a single plant. At 6, 12 and 18 months after planting, the survival rate (%), the height of the plant (ALT; m), the diameter of the stem 10 cm above ground (DC; mm) or the diameter at breast height (DAP: m) were evaluated. The genetic-statistical analyses were performed using the REML/BLUP procedure, with analysis of deviance, estimation of genetic parameters and prediction of genetic values at the different stages. The overall survival rate varied from 50.68% to 62.10% at 18 months and 6 months, respectively. The only significant differences were between progenies, for ALT and DC, at six months after planting. Except for the evaluated DAP at 18 months after planting, the other estimations of individual narrow sense heritability were moderated, being lower than the estimates of progenies average heritability. The gains with the selection of progenies and plants were from low to moderate and varied between each evaluated stage, decreasing with the increasing plant age.

Abstract Although cultivars of autogamous plants are homogeneous genotypes, they may show natural variability due to mechanical mixing, natural hybridization, and mutation. The aim of the present study was to estimate genetic and phenotypic parameters and to identify and select superior genotypes that associate good performance in traits of interest from a heterogeneous population derived from the cultivar BRS Favorita RR. The evaluation experiments were carried out in two crop years and five cities of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in a lattice design, using progenies and the control ‘BRS Favorita RR’. Plant height, first pod height, days to full maturity, lodging score, and grain yield were evaluated. For estimation of the variance components, analysis of deviance was performed by the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) method. The results show that there is difference among treatments and that it is possible to select progenies that outperform the control for all traits evaluated.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar o efeito da quantidade e do posicionamento de palha de U. ruziziensis, dessecada com glyphosate em diferentes épocas, sobre a nodulação, o desenvolvimento e as características produtivas da soja M-SOY 7908 RR. Para isso, foram conduzidos três experimentos sob condições semicontroladas. No primeiro, os tratamentos constituíram-se da incorporação (a 10 cm de profundidade) ou deposição na superfície do solo de três quantidades de palha de U. ruziziensis (2,5, 5,0 e 10 t ha-1), previamente dessecada com glyphosate. No segundo experimento, os tratamentos constaram de três épocas de dessecação de U. ruziziensis: 0, 7 e 12 dias antecedendo a semeadura da soja, e um tratamento sem U. ruziziensis. Para o terceiro, realizou-se a dessecação aos 0, 5 e 10 dias antecedendo a semeadura da soja, retirando-se ou não a parte aérea da planta dessecada, antes da semeadura da soja. Foram avaliadas a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea e raízes, a nodulação e a produção da soja. Em todos os ensaios, o delineamento experimental adotado foi o inteiramente casualizado. A deposição da palha de U. ruziziensis na superfície do solo favoreceu a nodulação e o crescimento da parte aérea das plantas de soja M-SOY 7908 RR, enquanto a incorporação, já a partir de 2,5 t ha-1, causou efeitos deletérios. A dessecação de U. ruziziensis dos 0 aos 7 dias antecedendo a semeadura da soja M-SOY 7908 RR foi prejudicial à nodulação e ao desenvolvimento da cultura, reduzindo sua produtividade.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the quantity and soil position of Urochloa ruziziensis straw desiccated with glyphosate for different periods of time on ‘M-SOY 7908 RR’ soybean nodulation, growth and production characteristics. Three experiments were conducted under semi-controlled conditions. In the first, three quantities of U. ruziziensis straw (2.5, 5.0 and 10 ton ha-1) previously desiccated with glyphosate were incorporated into the soil (10 cm deep) or deposited on the soil surface, and in the second experiment, the treatments consisted of three U. ruziziensis desiccation periods, 0, 7 and 12 days before soybean sowing, and one treatment without U. ruziziensis. In the third treatment, desiccation was performed at 0, 5 and 10 days before soybean sowing, and the desiccated plant shoots were removed or left in place before soybean sowing. For each of the experiments, a completely randomized experimental design was adopted, and the masses of the shoot and root dry matter, the degree of nodulation and soybean production were evaluated. The deposition of U. ruziziensis straw on the soil surface promoted the nodulation and growth of ‘M-SOY 7908 RR’ soybean plant shoots, while its incorporation into the soil, even at 2.5 ton ha-1, caused deleterious effects. Desiccation of U. ruziziensis from 0 to 7 days before sowing was also detrimental to the nodulation and growth of M-SOY 7908 RR soybean, reducing its productivity.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar os parâmetros fitomorfológicos da cultura da soja em um sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária e inoculados com Azospirillum brasilense. O experimento foi conduzido em Santa Maria, em dois agrícolas (2012/2013 e 2013/2014), num delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com três repetições. No período de inverno a pastagem de aveia preta e azevém foi manejada com ovinos em diferentes sistemas de pastejo: (I) - pastejo convencional (PC), onde os animais permaneciam na pastagem por todo o período experimental sem um controle da altura da pastagem, (II,III e IV) - altura da pastagem na saída dos animais de 10, 20 e 30 cm e uma testemunha sem pastejo (SP), três doses de nitrogênio (0, 50 e 100 kg ha-1) e com ou sem inoculação (Azospirillum brasilense). A semeadura da soja foi realizada em semeadura direta em 16 de novembro de 2012 e 01 de dezembro de 2013, utilizando-se a cultivar BMX Potência RR. Em cada parcela, se utilizou sete fileiras de plantas com espaçamento de 0,45 m, sendo que em quatro fileiras as sementes foram inoculadas com a bactéria Azospirillum brasilense. Foram avaliadas variáveis fitomorfológicas e a produtividade de grãos. Em sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária a cultura da soja possui melhores produtividades quando estabelecida sobre pastagem de aveia preta e azevém manejadas com alturas de pastejo entre 20 e 30 cm. As áreas sob pastejo convencional no inverno proporcionam plantas de soja menores, com menores inserções de primeira e última vagem. A inoculação com Azospirillum brasilense não deve ser usada isoladamente na cultura da soja.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the phytomorphological parameters of soybean in a crop-livestock system inoculated with Azospirillum brasilense. The experiment was conducted in Santa Maria, Brazil, for two agricultural years (2 Paper extracted from the doctoral thesis of the first author. 012/2013 and 2013/2014) in a randomized complete block design with three replications. In the winter, the black oat and ryegrass pasture was managed with sheep under different grazing systems: (I) - a conventional grazing (CG) system, where the animals remained in the pasture throughout the experimental period without any pasture height control; (II, III, and IV) - systems with post-grazing pasture heights of 10, 20, and 30 cm, respectively; and (NG) - one control without grazing. All treatments received two nitrogen doses (50 and 100 kg ha-1) and inoculation or no inoculation (A. brasilense). The soybean cultivar BMX Potência RR was sown using no-tillage on 16 November 2012 and 1 December 2013. In each plot, seven rows of plants with spacing of 0.45 m were used, and in four rows, the seeds were inoculated with the bacterium A. brasilense. The phytomorphological variables and grain productivity were evaluated. In a croplivestock system, soybean has better productivity when established on black oat and ryegrass pasture managed with post-grazing pasture heights of between 20 and 30 cm. Areas under conventional grazing in the winter led to smaller soybean plants with lower first and last pod heights. Inoculation with A. brasilense should not be used alone in soybean cultivation.

RESUMO: O milho voluntário é considerado uma planta daninha quando sua emergência ocorrer durante o ciclo da cultura em sucessão, como é o caso de plantas de milho voluntário de híbridos Roundup Ready (RR) em lavouras implantadas com cultivares de soja RR. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar o efeito da interferência de diferentes densidades de plantas de milho voluntário RR sobre a cultura da soja RR, bem como estimar o nível de dano econômico (NDE). Para isso, foi conduzido um experimento em campo em dois locais em esquema fatorial com quatro repetições; os tratamentos constaram de densidades de milho voluntário RR (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 e 8 plantas por m-2) competindo em todo o ciclo da soja. As alterações na morfologia e nos componentes de rendimento se comportaram de forma diretamente proporcional ao incremento das densidades de milho voluntário, sendo a variável legumes por planta a mais intensamente afetada. A perda de rendimento da soja na maior densidade de competidor chegou a 58%. O NDE foi estreitamente dependente do custo de controle das plantas de milho voluntário, da expectativa de rendimento da cultura, da eficiência do herbicida e do preço recebido pelo produto colhido, sendo a expectativa de rendimento o fator mais impactante. Em todas as simulações, o NDE encontrado foi muito baixo, menor que 0,48 planta m-2, evidenciando a necessidade do uso de herbicidas no controle do milho voluntário RR mesmo em baixas densidades.

ABSTRACT: Volunteer corn is considered a weed when its emergence occurs during the crop cycle in succession, as is the case of volunteer corn plants of hybrids of Roundup Ready (RR) in crops implanted with RR soybean cultivars. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of the interference of different RR plant densities on the RR soybean crop, as well as to estimate the level of economic damage (NDE). For this, a field experiment was carried out at two sites in a factorial scheme with four replications, the treatments consisted of densities of volunteer corn RR (0; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7 and 8 plants m-2) competing in the entire soybean cycle. The changes in morphology and yield components behaved directly proportional to the increment of volunteer corn densities, with the variable vegetables per plant being the most strongly affected. The loss of soybean yield at the highest competitor density reached 58%. NDE was closely dependent on the cost of control of volunteer corn plants, crop yield expectancy, herbicide efficiency, and the price received for the harvested product, with yield expectancy the most impacting factor. In all simulations, NDE was found to be very low, less than 0.48 plants m-2 evidencing the need of herbicides in the control of RR volunteer corn even at low densities.

RESUMO Neste trabalho o objetivo foi avaliar o efeito de densidades de semeadura e adubação nitrogenada sobre o crescimento de plantas de soja em cultivar com tipo de crescimento indeterminado. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos nas safras 2013/14 e 2014/15 com delineamento de blocos casualizados em parcelas subdivididas e seis repetições. Nas parcelas foram alocadas quatro densidades de semeadura (150, 300, 440 e 560 mil sementes viáveis ha-1) e nas subparcelas dois níveis de nitrogênio (0 e 45 kg N ha-1). A cultivar de soja utilizada foi a NK7059 RR. Foram avaliados a massa seca de caules, folhas e total, relação folha/caule, o teor de nitrogênio nas folhas e no caule, índice SPAD, altura de plantas e da inserção da primeira vagem, número de ramos por planta e produtividade de grãos. O crescimento de plantas de soja não é afetado pela interação da densidade de semeadura e a adubação nitrogenada mineral. O aumento da densidade de semeadura incrementa a massa seca de plantas nas fases iniciais de desenvolvimento e reduz a relação folha/caule e o número de ramos por planta. O efeito da adubação nitrogenada no crescimento das plantas é variável entre as safras mas não aumenta a produtividade mesmo considerando ampla variação de densidade de semeadura.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of seeding rates and nitrogen (N) fertilization on plant growth in soybean cultivar with indeterminate growth habit. Two experiments were conducted in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 growing seasons, in a complete block design with split-plot scheme and six replicates. Four seeding rates (150, 300, 440 and 560 000 viable seeds ha-1) and two N doses (0 and 45 kg ha-1) were allocated in the plots and subplots, respectively. The cultivar NK7059 RR was used. The following traits were assessed: leaf, stem and total shoot dry matter, leaf/stem dry matter ratio, stem and leaf N content, SPAD index, plant height, first pod height, number of branches per plant and grain yield. Soybean growth is not affected by the interaction of plant density and mineral N fertilization. Higher seeding rates increase plant dry matter in the initial development stages and reduce leaf/stem ratio and the number of branches per plant. The effects of N fertilization on soybean growth vary between growing seasons, but do not affect grain yield, even considering a wide range of seeding rates.

Resumo: O armazenamento de sementes sob condições adequadas reduz a velocidade do processo de deterioração de semente. O objetivo com o trabalho foi avaliar o resfriamento pré-envase e tipos de embalagem na manutenção da qualidade de sementes de soja ao longo do armazenamento. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições, em arranjo fatorial envolvendo ou não o resfriamento da massa de sementes antes do envase, três tipos de embalagens (sacaria de papel multifoliado, big bag e contêiner em polietileno) e cinco épocas de armazenamento (0, 2, 4, 6 e 8 meses). A qualidade fisiológica foi avaliada por meio de testes de primeira contagem de germinação, germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, condutividade elétrica, índice de velocidade de emergência e emergência. O uso de embalagens com maiores quantidades de sementes (big bag e contêiner) não favoreceu a manutenção da temperatura do resfriamento pré-envase. Os tipos de embalagem não proporcionaram diferenças na viabilidade de sementes de soja ao longo do armazenamento, até oito meses, independente do resfriamento antes do envase. As sementes das cultivares apresentaram diferentes tolerâncias ao armazenamento, sendo que as sementes da cultivar TMG 1176 RR possuem menor potencial de armazenamento em relação às sementes da cultivar SYN 9074 RR.

Abstract: Seeds storing under appropriate conditions reduces the speed of the seeds deterioration process. The aim of this study was to evaluate pre-packing cooling and types of packages in the maintenance of the physiological quality of soybean seeds during storage. The completely randomized experimental design was used, with four replications, considering a factorial arrangement involving or not the pre-packing cooling of the seed mass, three types of packages (multi-layer paper bag, big bag, and polyethylene container), and five storing periods (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 months). The physiological quality was evaluated by the tests of first germination count, germination, accelerated aging, electrical conductivity, emergence speed index and emergence. The use of packages with larger amount of seeds (big bag and polyethylene container) did not favor the maintenance of the pre-packing cooling temperature. The types of packages did not show significant differences in the seeds viability during storage, up to eight months, regardless the pre-packing cooling. The cultivars seeds showed different tolerance to storing, i.e. seeds of the cultivar TMG 1176 had lower storing potential comparing to the seeds from the cultivar SYN 9074.

Resumo: O fósforo é um dos nutrientes mais importantes para a soja, porém apresenta uma dinâmica complexa no solo e pode tornar-se indisponível. A aplicação parcelada e localizada desse nutriente pode ser tática eficiente para aumentar sua disponibilidade. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do parcelamento da dose de P aplicada ao solo e do recobrimento das sementes com fosfato de sódio monobásico na nodulação, no crescimento e nos componentes de rendimento de plantas de soja cultivar BRS Valiosa RR. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2x5x3, ou seja, recobrimento ou não das sementes; cinco doses de P aplicados ao solo; e três épocas de parcelamento da adubação fosfatada. As seguintes variáveis resposta foram avaliadas: teor de P na folha índice, matéria seca da parte aérea, da raiz e dos nódulos, componentes de rendimento e altura de plantas. Houve incremento na nodulação e no crescimento das plantas com o aumento das doses de fósforo aplicado no solo. Nas menores doses, o recobrimento das sementes e o parcelamento da adubação fosfatada aumentaram a nodulação, o crescimento e os componentes do rendimento das plantas. Assim, o parcelamento da dose de P, aliado ao recobrimento das sementes, é indicado para aumentar os componentes de produtividade das plantas de soja.

Abstract: Phosphorus is one of the most important nutrients for soybeans, but it presents a complex dynamic in the soil and can become unavailable. The split and localized application of this nutrient can be an effective approach to increase its availability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a split phosphorus dose applied to the soil and the seed coating with monobasic sodium phosphate on nodulation, growth and yield components of soybean cultivar BRS Valiosa RR. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design in a 2x5x3 factorial arrangement, i.e., coating or not the seeds; five doses of phosphorus applied to the soil; and three times of splitting phosphate fertilizer. Phosphorus content in the index leaf (IL), dry matter of shoots, roots and nodules, yield components, and plant height were evaluated. There was an increase in nodulation and growth of plants with increased levels of phosphorus applied to the soil. In smaller doses, the seed coating and the splitting of phosphorus fertilizer increased nodulation, growth and yield components of plants. Thus, the splitting of the phosphorus dose, combined with seed coating, is indicated for increasing the yield components of soybean plants.

RESUMO A soja resistente ao glifosato (Roundup Ready(r), RR) representa a principal cultura geneticamente modificada (GM) cultivada no mundo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, em um experimento de campo de longa duração, a composição química dos grãos das cultivares de soja parental convencional (BRS 133) e sua respectiva transgênica quase isogênica (BRS 245RR). Os experimentos foram realizados em duas condições edafoclimáticas distintas e tiveram início em 2003/2004 e as amostras foram coletadas na safra 2011/2012. Foram quantificados os teores de isoflavonas (cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência), ácidos graxos (cromatografia em fase gasosa), lipídeos e proteínas (espectroscopia no infravermelho próximo na NIR - refletância de infravermelho próximo) e minerais (espectrofotometria de absorção atômica de chama). Todas as amostras foram analisadas em triplicata. Foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os locais de cultivo. Em Ponta Grossa, que possui temperaturas menores e maior precipitação durante o enchimento de grãos, o conteúdo de lipídeos e isoflavonas foram maiores. Em Londrina, com solo de maior fertilidade, o conteúdo de minerais, proteínas e carboidratos foram maiores. Diferenças significativas foram associadas ao transgene RR. A cultivar BRS 133 apresentou maiores teores de proteínas e a BRS 245 RR maiores teores de lipídeos e isoflavonas.

ABSTRACT Glyphosate-tolerant (Roundup Ready(r), RR) soybean is the most widely cultivated genetically modified crop in the world. The aim of this study was to evaluate, in a long-term field experiment, the chemical composition of grains in a pair of cultivars composed of the conventional parent (BRS 133) and the nearly isogenic transgenic (BRS 245RR) soybean. Plants were cropped under two different edaphoclimatic conditions in Brazil. The experiments began during the 2003/2004 growing season; samples were collected during the 2011/2012 harvest. Were quantified the contents of isoflavones (high performance liquid chromatography), fatty acids (gas chromatography), lipid and proteins (near infrared spectroscopy in the NIR - Near Infrared Reflectance) and minerals (atomic absorption flame spectrophotometry). All samples were analyzed in three replications. Major differences were observed between the two cultivation locations. In Ponta Grossa, which has lower temperatures and higher rainfall during the grain filling period, the contents of lipids and isoflavones were higher. In Londrina, which hassoil with higher fertility, the contents of minerals, proteins and carbohydrates in soybean grains were higher. Significant differences were observed between the cultivars. The conventional parent had higher protein contents and lower lipid contents. The transgenic soybean line had higher isoflavone contents.

The objective measurement of subjective, multi-dimensionally experienced pain is a problem for which there has not been an adequate solution. Although verbal methods (e.g., pain scales and questionnaires) are commonly used to measure clinical pain, they tend to lack objectivity, reliability, or validity when applied to mentally impaired individuals. Biopotential and behavioral parameters may represent a solution. Such coding systems already exist, but they are either very costly or time-consuming or have not been sufficiently evaluated. In this context, we collected a database of biopotentials to advance an automated pain recognition system, determine its theoretical testing quality, and optimize its performance. For this purpose, participants were subjected to painful heat stimuli under controlled conditions. One hundred thirty-five features were extracted from the mathematical groupings of amplitude, frequency, stationarity, entropy, linearity, and variability. The following features were chosen as the most selective: (1) electromyography corrugator peak to peak, (2) corrugator shannon entropy, and (3) heart rate variability slope RR. Individual-specific calibration allows the adjustment of feature patterns, resulting in significantly more accurate pain detection rates. The objective measurement of pain in patients will provide valuable information for the clinical team, which may aid the objective assessment of treatment (e.g., effectiveness of drugs for pain reduction, information on surgical indication, and quality of care provided to patients).
