The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of replacing grain sorghum (GS) with palm kernel cake (PKC) on the performance, carcass traits and meat quality of feedlot steers fed high-grain diets. Forty male ¹/4 Holstein * ¹/4 Nellore steers with an initial weight of 331.1 ± 36.2 kg, at 24 ± 2 months of age, were housed in group stalls (10 cattle/stall) where they received diets containing 0, 80, 160, or 240 g/kg PKC on a dietary dry matter basis. After 126 days, the animals were slaughtered and their carcass and meat evaluated. The replacement of GS with PKC did not influence empty body weight, carcass weight, carcass length, or carcass yield. However, the thickness of subcutaneous fat in the carcass decreased with the replacement of GS with PKC. The meat pH increased linearly, whereas there were no changes in cooking loss, shear force, lightness (L*), and fat or cholesterol contents in the meat of the steers. Partial replacement (41,57%) of GS with PKC is recommended, with an inclusion of up to 240 g/kg PKC in high-grain diets for steers.

A high-grain diet is essential to maximize growth and yield as well as to provide high-quality meat in beef cattle. This study evaluated the effects of including licuri cake in high-grain diets for steers on performance and carcass and meat quality. Forty-four crossbred (1/2 Bos taurus χ 1/2 Bos indicus) castrated steers at 24 months of age, with an initial weight of 358.19 ± 41.57 kg, were used. The animals were distributed into four treatments that consisted of diets including licuri cake (0, 85, 170, or 255 g/kg, dry matter basis). Dry matter intake and digestibility decreased with the inclusion of licuri cake in the diet. However, the addition of the ingredient did not influence the intakes of total digestible nutrients (6.7 ± 0.5 kg/day) or crude protein. Licuri cake inclusion did not influence weight gain (1.5 ± 0.2 kg/day) or hot carcass weight (255.1 ± 24.9 kg). There was also no effect on carcass fat thickness, whereas the cholesterol content in the meat decreased with the addition of the cake. We recommend the inclusion of up to 255 g/kg licuri cake in the diet of feedlot steers fed high-concentrate diets.

Neste artigo, discutimos a física envolvendo uma câmara de radiação ultravioleta–C (UV–C) utilizada para desinfecção de superfícies e objetos, no contexto da pandemia de COVID-19. Quando exposto à radiação UV–C, o RNA viral muda sua estrutura molecular num processo causado por uma realocação nas bases nitrogenadas, inativando o vírus e impedindo sua reprodução. Nós propomos a construção de uma câmara UV–C utilizando materiais acessíveis à população, com recursos de segurança. Também discutimos o processo de design na determinação da distância e tempo de exposição necessários para a dose de UV–C apropriada. Fatores teóricos que deixam o problema mais realista considerando-se a geometria do sistema também são utilizados. Experimentalmente, a lâmpada utilizada para o protótipo foi testada, obtendo-se uma potência na faixa do UV–C de Puv = 171μ W, após correções. Os tempos de exposição foram então definidos, e variaram de 20–90 minutos, considerando-se distâncias de 5–36 cm dos objetos à lâmpada.

In this article, we discuss the physics involved in a ultraviolet–C (UV–C) radiation chamber used for disinfection of surfaces and objects, in the context of the COVID–19 pandemic. When exposed to UV–C radiation, viral RNA change its molecular structure, a process caused by a rearrangement in the nitrogenous basis, inactivating the virus, and preventing reproduction. We propose the construction of a UV–C chamber using materials that are accessible to the population, with security features. We also discuss the design process in determining the distance and exposition time needed for the appropriate UV–C dose. Theoretical correction factors are also used, in order to account for factors that make our approximations more realistic in terms of the geometry of the system. Experimentally, the lamp used for the prototype was tested, obtaining a power in UV–C range of Puv = 171μ W, after corrections. Exposition times were then defined, ranging from 20–90 minutes, considering distances from 5–36 cm from the objects to the lamp.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo conhecer perfil diagnóstico de usuários do SUS com relação à fitoterapia. Trata-se de um estudo observacional transversal, com coleta de dados realizada no Município de Marechal Deodoro, por meio de um questionário semi-estruturado com perguntas relativas a dados socioeconômicos, utilização e conhecimentos sobre plantas medicinais e fitoterápicos e satisfação com o uso de plantas medicinais (PM) e medicamentos fitoterápicos (MF). Entre os usuários abordados, 87,08% utilizam plantas medicinais frequentemente, principalmente a erva cidreira (Melissa officinalis L.). Também foi observado que as plantas são geralmente usadas como calmante (16,05%) e na forma de chá (68,35%). 82,51% dos entrevistados afirmam ter adquirido o conhecimento sobre fitoterapia através de algum familiar e 85,56% fazem uso das PM e MF sem ter recebido algum tipo de informativo sobre o seu uso. 61% das plantas descritas pelos usuários teve seu uso e terapêutica coincidente com o citado em literatura específica. Com relação a satisfação através do tratamento com PM e MF observou-se que 56,80% estão satisfeitos. O uso de plantas medicinais por parte dos usuários é bastante frequente, principalmente pelo conhecimento acumulado ao longo de gerações. Portanto, se faz necessária maior atenção a esse aspecto de utilização, visando evitar possíveis reações adversas advindas do uso incorreto.

Abstract This study aimed to assess diagnosis of Unique Health System (SUS) users profile with regard to herbal medicine. This is a cross-sectional study with observational data collection conducted in the city of Marechal Deodoro, through a semi-structured questionnaire with questions related to socioeconomic data, use, and knowledge of medicinal plants and herbal medicines and satisfaction with the use of medicinal herbs (MH) and interactions of phytotherapeutic drugs (PD). Among the topics, 86.89% of users used herbal medicines often, especially lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.). It was also observed that the plants are generally used as a sedative (21.74%) and as tea (87.84%). 82.32% of respondents claim to have acquired the knowledge of herbal medicine through a family member and 85.36% make use of medicinal plants without having received any information on the use of MH and PD. 61% of the plants described that coincided with the form of use and therapeutic properties found in the literature. With regard to satisfaction by treatment with MH and PD, it was found that 56.67% are satisfied. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to this aspect of usage, in order to avoid possible drug interactions or adverse reactions resulting from the incorrect use.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho consistiu em determinar o efeito do óleo de alecrim (Rosmarinus officinalis) na qualidade sanitária e fisiológica de sementes de feijão fava (Phaseolus lunatus), utilizando as cultivares ‘Raio de Sol’, ‘Rosinha’ e ‘Roxinha’. Os tratamentos foram constituídos pelo fungicida Captan® (240 g. 100 kg-1 de sementes), óleo essencial de alecrim nas concentrações 0,25; 0,5; 0,75 e 1,0 mL L-1 diluídos em água destilada e esterilizada, acrescidos de 0,05 mL de Tween 20 e testemunha (sementes não tratadas). Foi utilizado o método de incubação com substrato de papel de filtro “Blotter test” para análise sanitária das sementes. A qualidade fisiológica foi determinada com base nos resultados de primeira contagem da germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento e massa seca da parte aérea e raiz de plântulas. Foram identificados os géneros Fusarium sp., Cladosporium sp., Penicillium sp., Colletotrichum sp., Aspergillus sp., Nigrospora sp., Curvularia sp., Botrytis sp., Bipolaris sp. e Phytophthora sp. O óleo de alecrim foi eficiente na redução da incidência dos fungos associados a sementes e não interfere na germinação e crescimento inicial de feijão fava nas cultivares ‘Raio de Sol’, ‘Rosinha’ e ‘Roxinha’, independente das concentrações avaliadas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to determine the effect of rosemary oil (Rosmarinus officinalis) on seed physiological and sanitary quality of lima bean seeds (Phaseolus lunatus), cultivars ‘Raio de Sol’, 'Rosinha' and 'Roxinha'. The treatments were composed of the Captan fungicide (240 g. 100 kg-1 of seeds), rosemary essential oil at 0.25; 0.5; 0.75 and 1.0 mL L-1 diluted in distilled and sterilized water, plus 0.05 mL of Tween 20 and control (untreated seeds). For sanitary analysis, the filter paper method (Blotter test) was used. The physiological quality was determined based on the results of first germination counting, germination, germination speed index, length and dry matter of shoot and seedling root. . The identified fungi genera were Fusarium sp., Cladosporium sp., Penicillium sp., Colletotrichum sp., Aspergillus sp., Nigrospora sp., Curvularia sp., Botrytis sp., Bipolaris sp. and Phytophthora sp. The rosemary oil was efficient in reducing the incidence of associated fungi and did not interfere with the lima bean germination and initial growth in 'Raio de Sol', 'Rosinha' and 'Roxinha' cultivars at the evaluated concentrations.

Resumo Este estudo avaliou quantitativamente a quantidade de material extruído apicalmente pela instrumentação com lima única reciprocante, aplicando diferentes comprimentos de trabalho e tamanhos de preparo apical. Para a análise de extrusão foram utilizados oitenta incisivos inferiores unirradiculares humanos. Cavidades de acesso convencionais foram preparadas e os espécimes foram divididos em quatro grupos (n=20), de acordo com o tipo de instrumentação do canal: Reciproc 25, 0.08 e Reciproc 40, 0.06 foram utilizadas na instrumentação até o forame; Reciproc tamanho 25, 0.08 e Reciproc 40, 0,06 foram utilizadas na instrumentação até 1 mm aquém do forame. Água destilada foi empregada como irrigante e o material extruído apicalmente foi coletado em frascos de vidro já pesados e posteriormente submetidos a secagem. O peso médio de detritos foi avaliado com uma microbalança de precisão e os dados submetidos a ANOVA e teste Tukey (p<0,05). Todos os grupos experimentais foram associados à extrusão de debris. Nenhuma diferença significativa foi encontrada na quantidade de material extruído apicalmente entre os grupos (p>0,05). Este estudo demonstrou que o comprimento de trabalho e o tamanho do preparo apical não geraram efeito significativo sobre a extrusão de debris durante a instrumentação reciprocante.

Abstract The aim of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the amount of apically extruded debris by single-file reciprocating instruments with different working lengths and apical preparation sizes. Eighty human single-rooted mandibular incisors were used and conventional access cavities were prepared. Then, the specimens were divided into four groups (n=20), according to root canal instrumentation: Reciproc size 25, .08 taper and Reciproc size 40, .06 taper instruments were used at the foramen; Reciproc size 25, .08 taper and Reciproc size 40, .06 taper instruments were used 1 mm short of the foramen. Distilled water was used as an irrigant and the apically extruded debris were collected in pre-weighted glass vials and dried afterwards. The mean weight of debris was weighed with a microbalance and statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and the post hoc Tukey multiple comparison test (p<0.05). The results showed that all experimental groups were associated with debris extrusion. No significant difference was found in the amount of apically extruded debris among all experimental groups (p>0.05). The present study demonstrated that the working length and the apical preparation size did not have a significant effect on debris extrusion when performing single-file reciprocating instrumentation.

Samples of sewage from a university hospital and a chemistry technical school were analysed for the percentage of bacterial tolerance to chromium (Cr), silver (Ag) and mercury (Hg). Additionally, we investigated the effect of these metals on pigmentation and on some enzymatic activities of the metal tolerant strains isolated, as well as antimicrobial resistance in some metal tolerant Enterobacteriaceae strains. Tolerance to Cr was observed mainly in Gram positive bacteria while in the case of Ag and Hg the tolerant bacteria were predominately Gram negative. Hg was the metal for which the percentage of tolerance was significantly higher, especially in samples from the hospital sewage (4.1%). Mercury also had the most discernible effect on color of the colonies. Considering the effect of metals on the respiratory enzymes, one strain of Ag-tolerantBacillus sp. and one of Hg-tolerant P. aeruginosa were unable to produce oxidase in the presence of Ag and Hg, respectively, while the expression of gelatinase was largely inhibited in various Gram negative strains (66% by Cr). Drug resistance in Hg-tolerant Enterobacteriaceae strains isolated from the university hospital sewage was greater than 80%, with prevalence of multiple resistance, while the Ag-tolerant strains from the same source showed about 34% of resistance, with the predominance of mono-resistance. Our results showed that, despite the ability of metal tolerant strains to survive and grow in the presence of these elements, the interactions with these metals may result in metabolic or phisiological changes in this group of bacteria.

Visando às dificuldades encontradas pelo produtor no cultivo da alface (Lactuta sativa L.) americana, cv. Laureau, especificamente quanto à falta de informações técnicas sobre quantidade de água a aplicar, objetivou-se estudar o efeito de diferentes lâminas de água sobre o comportamento produtivo e econômico da alface americana. O experimento foi realizado na Universidade Federal de Lavras, no período de outubro a dezembro de 2008, em casa de vegetação. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de cinco fatores de evaporação, correspondentes a 0,30, 0,60, 0,90, 1,20 e 1,50 EVm, baseados na lâmina evaporada de um minitanque. Os resultados permitiram concluir que a máxima produtividade total e comercial, 65.918 kg ha-1 e 35.544 kg ha-1, foram estimadas com a aplicação de lâminas equivalentes a 152,1 e 155 mm, respectivamente, correspondentes ao fator de reposição de 92%; considerando o preço do fator água (R$ 0,67 mm-1) e o preço da alface americana (R$ 0,90 kg-1), a lâmina economicamente ótima foi 154 mm, identificando que a eficiência técnica do experimento foi significativamente igual à máxima eficiência econômica.

With the aim of minimizing the difficulties faced by the producers on cultivating the crisphead lettuce (Lactuta sativa L.), specifically those related to the lack of technical information about the quantity of water to be applied, a study was conducted to determine the economic and productive behavior of crisphead lettuce yielding characteristics. The experiment was carried out at the Universidade Federal de Lavras, from October to December 2008 in greenhouse. A randomized block design with five treatments and four repetitions was adopted. The treatments, consisting of the five respective evaporation factors: 0.30, 0.60, 0.90, 1.20 and 1.50 EVm, were done according to an evaporated depth of a reduced pan. The results showed that the maximum total and commercial yield, 65.918 and 35.544 kg ha-1, were estimated by applying depths equivalent to 152.1 and 155 mm, respectively, corresponding to 92 % replacement factor; regarding water factor price (R$ 0.67 mm-1) and crisphead lettuce price (R$ 0.90 kg-1), the economically optimum depth was 154 mm, which resulted in a commercial yield practically equal to the maximum economical efficiency.

A estruturação do Sistema Nacional de Vigilância Epidemiológica do Brasil, em 1975, tornou obrigatória a notificação de algumas doenças transmissíveis com o objetivo de reduzir a carga destes eventos no país. Entretanto, as alterações no perfil epidemiológico destas doenças, associadas a características da sociedade contemporânea, determinam a constante adequação das atividades de vigilância a este cenário. Neste manuscrito, são descritos epidemiologia, tendências e diagnóstico diferencial das seguintes doenças dermatológicas de notificação compulsória no Brasil: aids, dengue, hanseníase, leishmaniose tegumentar americana, sarampo, rubéola e síndrome da rubéola congênita e sífilis. Também são apresentados os principais desafios atuais para o controle e prevenção para cada uma dessas doenças no Brasil

The development of a Brazilian National Surveillance System in 1975 led to a compulsory reporting of selected infectious diseases aiming to reduce the burden of these events in the country. However, shifts in the epidemiology of these diseases associated with modern life style, demand constant revision of surveillance activities. In this manuscript we present the epidemiology, trends and differential diagnosis of the following compulsory notifiable diseases in Brazil: Aids, dengue fever, hanseniasis, American tegumentary leishmaniasis, measles, rubella and congenital rubella syndrome and syphilis. Additionally, the current challenges for control and prevention of each disease are presented

No Brasil, Meloidogyne incognita é considerado um dos fitonematóides mais agressivos e prejudiciais ao cafeeiro. Entretanto, populações desse nematóide, presentes em Minas Gerais, são incapazes de infectar esse hospedeiro. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar e avaliar a penetração e o desenvolvimento pós-infectivo de populações de M. incognita que diferem quanto à capacidade de infectar o cafeeiro. As duas populações foram confirmadas como M. incognita pelo fenótipo isoenzimático de esterase, I1, e PCR específico. Foram classificadas como raça 2 pela reação dos hospedeiros diferenciadores. Mudas de cafeeiro suscetível e resistente foram inoculadas com juvenis de segundo estádio (J2) de cada população e avaliadas quanto à penetração e desenvolvimento do nematóide a partir do segundo até o quadragésimo dia após a inoculação. A penetração de J2 da população de M. incognita de São Paulo foi maior do que a da população de Minas Gerais, tanto em cafeeiro suscetível (C. arabica 'Catuaí Vermelho IAC 44') quanto resistente (C. canephora 'Apoatã IAC 2258'). Como esperado, ocorreu maior penetração de J2 das duas populações de M. incognita no cafeeiro suscetível. Nas avaliações posteriores, somente foi observado desenvolvimento pós-infectivo nos indivíduos pertencentes à população de M. incognita de São Paulo em cafeeiro suscetível. Os mecanismos que conferiram incompatibilidade entre as populações de M. incognita de Minas Gerais e o cafeeiro atuaram principalmente na fase de penetração, mas também foi acompanhada pela ação de fatores de resistência pós-penetração que ocasionaram uma significativa emigração de J2 e impediram o estabelecimento do nematóide.

Meloidogyne incognita is one of the most aggressive and harmful plant-parasitic nematodes attacking coffee plantations in Brazil. However, populations from Minas Gerais state (MG) do not incite disease on coffee plants as strongly as populations from São Paulo state (SP). This study aimed to compare the capacity to incite disease on coffee plants from SP and MG-populations based on penetration and post-infective development of second-stage juveniles (J2) stage. Both populations were confirmed as M. incognita by using esterase phenotype I1 and species-specific PCR. Physiologically they were classified as race 2 by differential host test. Susceptible (C. arabica 'Catuaí Vermelho IAC 44') and resistant coffee seedlings (C. canephora 'Apoatã IAC 2258') were inoculated with J2 and assessed for penetration and development from 2nd to 40th day after inoculation. Although the penetration rate of the J2 from both populations was higher in susceptible than in resistant seedlings, the SP-population showed a higher penetration than the MG-population for both variables. Post-infective development proceeded only in individuals of the SP-population in susceptible seedlings. The incompatibility between the MG-population and coffee seedlings was evident at the penetration phase, which was also followed by post-penetration resistance factors leading to significant J2 emigration, impeding nematode establishment.

Thermal impedance is a way of defining the characteristics of thermal systems. It is a function that represents the relation between the frequency components of temperature and heat flux. From the experimental point of view, it is determined simply by measuring the heat flux and the temperature, simultaneously. In this work, these signals are measured only on the frontal surface of the sample. The experimental technique proposed here can be well adapted for making in situ measurements. A one-dimensional semi-infinite thermal model is used. For the semi-infinite model, just the thermal effusivity, b, can be estimated. The thermal effusivity is estimated for three polymers. An objective function representing the difference between experimental and theoretical values of the modulus of the thermal impedance function is minimized. For all cases studied in this work the thermal effusivity is in good agreement with literature. In addition an uncertainty analysis is also presented.

A atividade anti-helmíntica dos extratos aquoso e etanólico do fruto da Morinda citrifolia (noni) foi avaliada em aves poedeiras naturalmente infectadas por Ascaridia galli. A atividade anti-helmíntica in vitro foi determinada em parasitos adultos. O extrato aquoso e etanólico foram testados nas seguintes concentrações: 1,69; 3,37; 6,74; 13,48 e 26,96 mg.mL-1 e 4,17; 8,34; 16,68; 33,36 e 66,72 mg.mL-1, respectivamente. A atividade anti-helmíntica in vivo foi determinada administrando-se, durante três dias consecutivos, o extrato aquoso (50,1 mg.mL-1) e etanólico (24,6 mg.mL-1), sendo 10 mL.kg-1. Posteriormente, as aves foram sacrificadas e necropsiadas para contagem dos helmintos remanescentes. Os dados obtidos foram analisados estatisticamente, utilizando-se o teste de Student-Newman-Keuls. Nas concentrações 13,48 e 26,96 mg.mL-1, o extrato aquoso apresentou taxa de mortalidade de 46,67 e 50%, respectivamente, sendo estatisticamente diferente do controle negativo (P < 0,05). O extrato etanólico apresentou diferença significativa do controle negativo (diluente) (P < 0,05) para as concentrações 33,36 e 66,72 mg.mL-1, expressando taxa de mortalidade de 66,67 e 76,67%, respectivamente. No teste in vivo, o extrato aquoso do fruto do noni apresentou percentual de eliminação de 27,08%, diferindo estatisticamente do grupo controle. Não houve diferença significativa entre os tratamentos com extrato etanólico e controle (P > 0,05). Conclui-se que a atividade anti-helmíntica do fruto do noni, no teste in vitro, apresentou resultados satisfatórios, havendo necessidade de estudos com maiores concentrações no teste in vivo.

The anthelmintic activity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Morinda citrifolia fruit (noni) was evaluated in chicken naturally infected by Ascaridia galli. The anthelmintic activity in vitro was determined in adult parasites. The aqueous and ethanolic extracts were used in the following concentrations: 1.69; 3.37; 6.74; 13.48 e 26.96 mg.mL-1 and 4.17; 8.34; 16.68; 33.36 and 66.72 mg.mL-1, respectively. The anthelmintic activity in vivo was determined by the administration of 10 mL.kg-1 of the aqueous (50.1 mg.mL-1) and ethanolic (24.6 mg.mL-1) extracts during three consecutive days. Later the chickens were euthanized and necropsy was performed in order to count the remaining helminths. The data were analyzed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test. In the concentrations of 13.48 and 26.96 mg.mL-1, the aqueous extract demonstrated mortality of 46.67 and 50%, respectively, there was a significative difference from the negative control (P < 0.05). The ethanolic extract presented statistical difference from the negative control (diluent) (P < 0.05) for the concentrations of 33.36 and 66.72 mg.mL-1, expressed by a mortality rate of 66.67 and 76.67%, respectively. In the in vivo test, the aqueous extract of noni fruit showed 27.08% of elimination, deferring statistically from the control group. There was no statistical difference between the ethanolic extract treatments and the control (P > 0.05). It follows that the anthelmintic activity of noni fruit test showed satisfactory results in vitro, there is a need for studies in higher concentrations in the in vivo test.

O alumínio é o metal mais abundante e o terceiro elemento mais comum na crosta terrestre, compreendendo aproximadamente 7% da sua massa total, e em solos ácidos, sua toxidez é o fator limitante de maior importância para a produtividade das culturas no mundo. Neste sentido, este trabalho busca determinar um método de avaliação do comportamento de porta-enxertos de videira, Paulsen 1103 e Gravesac, em condições estressantes de alumínio in vitro. As plantas matrizes foram mantidas em casa de vegetação, em condições controladas contra patógenos, e submetidas a fertirrigação com solução nutritiva para videira. Para seleção dos explantes, desinfestação, introdução e manutenção in vitro foram utilizadas metodologias de cultura de tecidos para a videira. Após a desinfestação, os explantes foram inoculados em tubos de ensaio contendo 15 mL de meio de cultura DSD1. As culturas in vitro foram transferidas para salas de crescimento e mantidas sob condições de temperatura de 25°C, fotoperíodo de 16 horas e intensidade luminosa de 40-45 μmol.m-2.s-1. A sustentação dos explantes no meio líquido foi obtida por intermédio de discos de cortiça previamente preparados e esterilizados. Os experimentos foram conduzidos com pH da solução igual a 4,0 e concentrações de Al, adicionadas na forma de AlCl3, variando de 0 a 1,375 mM. Após a autoclavagem do meio de cultivo, as doses de alumínio foram adicionadas ao meio de cultura em câmara de fluxo laminar e os valores de pH corrigidos para 4,0. Foram implantados dois experimentos. No primeiro, os explantes das duas variedades de porta-enxertos foram colocados diretamente no meio de cultura DSD1 líquido com diferentes concentrações de Al, onde ficaram por um período de 60 dias até a avaliação. No segundo experimento, os explantes foram introduzidos em mesmo meio, na ausência de alumínio. Após 30 dias em crescimento, as plantas in vitro foram selecionadas por tamanho e submetidas aos diversos tratamentos até a avaliação. O método para a avaliação dos efeitos fitotóxicos do alumínio sobre a cultura da videira em condições in vitro foi elaborado com base em estudos que tratam da toxidez por alumínio em solução nutritiva e da seleção de videiras in vitro. Avaliaram-se os efeitos dos tratamentos sobre o sistema radicular (número de raízes e massa seca), matéria fresca e seca total e matéria seca das folhas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado composto por seis vidros, contendo três plantas cada um, num total de sete tratamentos. Os porta-enxertos de videira Gravesac e Paulsen 1103, apresentam mecanismos de exclusão do alumínio via elevação do pH do meio de cultura. A variedade Gravesac apresentou respostas de variação de pH mais rápidas que a variedade Paulsen 1103. Ocorreu variabilidade nas respostas de crescimento de plantas in vitro em condições estressantes de H+ e Al+3. O desenvolvimento in vitro do porta-enxerto Paulsen 1103 foi superior ao do Gravesac para número de folhas, comprimento das raízes, área foliar, peso seco total.

The aluminum is the most abundant metal and the third more common element in the terrestrial crust, with approximately 7% of your total mass and in acid soils, your toxicity is the limiting factor of larger importance for the productivity of cultures in the world. In this sense, this work search to determine a method of evaluation of the behavior of rootstock grapevine ‘Paulsen 1103’ and ‘Gravesac’, in stress conditions of aluminum in vitro. The plants were maintained in a greenhouse, in controlled conditions against diseases, and submitted the irrigation with nutritious solution for grapevine. For selection of the explants, disinfestations, introduction and in vitro maintenance were used methodologies of tissue culture for the grapevine. After the disinfestations, the explants were inoculated in tubes containing 15 mL of culture medium DSD1. The cultures in vitro were transferred for growth rooms and maintained under temperature conditions of 25°C, photoperiod of 16 hours and luminous intensity of 40-45 mol.m-2.s-1. The sustentation of the explants in the liquid culture medium was previously obtained through cork disks prepared and sterilized. The experiments were maintained with pH of the solution same to 4.0 and concentrations of Al, added in the AlCl³ form, varying from 0 to 1.375 mM. After the sterilization of the culture medium, the concentrations of aluminum were added to the culture medium in a laminar camera and the pH values corrected for 4.0. Two experiments were implanted. In the first, the explants of the two varieties of grapevine rootstock were placed directly in the liquid culture medium DSD1 with different concentrations of Al, where were maintained per 60 days until the evaluation. In the second experiment, the explants were introduced in the same culture medium, in the absence of aluminum. After 30 days in growth, the plants in vitro were selected by size and submitted to the several treatments until the evaluation. The method for the evaluation of aluminum fitotoxicity effects on the grapevine culture in vitro was elaborated with base in studies about the toxicity for aluminum in nutrition solution and the selection in vitro of grapevine. The effects of the treatments were evaluated on the radicular system (number of roots and sec mass), fresh mass and sec mass of leaves. The experimental delineate used was randomized composed by six glasses, containing three plants each one, in a total of seven treatments. The rootstock grapevine ‘Gravesac’ and ‘Paulsen 1103’, present mechanisms of aluminum exclusion through elevation of pH in the culture medium. The cv. ‘Gravesac’ presented answers variation of faster pH than ‘Paulsen 1103’. Its happened variability in the answers growth of plants in vitro in stress conditions of H+ and Al+3. The development in vitro of rootstock grapevine Paulsen 1103 was superior to Gravesac for number of leaves, length of roots, foliar area and total dry weight.

Avaliaram-se os efeitos de doses de esterco bovino (0; 8; 16; 24; 32 e 40 t ha-1) sobre os rendimentos de espigas verdes e de grãos de duas cultivares de milho (Centralmex e AG-9012). O trabalho foi realizado em Mossoró (RN), de setembro a dezembro/99, com irrigação por aspersão. Utilizou-se esquema de parcelas subdivididas no delineamento de blocos completos casualizados com três repetições. As doses de esterco foram aplicadas às parcelas e as cultivares, às subparcelas. O rendimento de milho verde foi avaliado pelo número e peso totais de espigas verdes empalhadas e pelo número e peso de espigas comercializáveis, empalhadas e despalhadas. O rendimento de grãos foi avaliado pelo peso dos grãos corrigido para 15,5% de umidade. Análises do solo, realizadas aos 120 dias após o plantio, constataram que o esterco aumentou a retenção e a disponibilidade de água e os teores de fósforo, potássio e sódio, na camada do solo de 20-40 cm, mas não influenciou o pH e os teores de cálcio, soma de bases e de matéria orgânica. Tanto o rendimento de espigas verdes como o rendimento de grãos aumentaram com o aumento da dose de esterco, exceto o número e o peso totais de espigas verdes da cultivar Centralmex. A cultivar AG-9012 foi superior à cultivar Centralmex quanto aos rendimentos de espigas verdes e de grãos. A receita líquida, calculada com a comercialização de espigas empalhadas comercializáveis, foi maior na ausência de esterco para a cultivar AG-9012 e com a aplicação de 8 t ha-1para a Centralmex.

The effect of different levels of cattle manure (0; 8; 16; 24; 32 and 40 t ha-1) on yield of green corn ears and grains of two maize cultivars was evaluated (Centralmex and AG-9012). The study was carried out at Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, from September to Dezember 1999 using sprinkler irrigation. The experimental design was complete random blocks arranged in splitplot with three replications. The manure was applied to main plots and cultivars in the subplots. The green corn yield was evaluated by total number and weight of green ears with husk and by marketables ears, with husk and without husk. The grain yield was evaluated by grain weight corrected for 15,5% humidity. The soil analysis, carried out 120 days after planting, indicated that the manure increased the water retention, water availability and the potassium, sodium and phosphorus contents, however, did not influence pH, calcium, sum of bases and organic matter contents. The manure levels x cultivars interaction was significant for number of marketable ears with husk only. All evaluated traits increased with the increase of manure levels. The cultivar AG-9012 was superior to the cultivar Centralmex for the evaluated traits. The net income, obtained with the sale of marketable ears with husk, was higher when no manure was applied for AG-9012. For the cultivar Centralmex, the net income was higher with 8 t ha-1 cattle manure application.
