Abstract Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis (Latreille, 1817) and Farfantepenaeus paulensis (Pérez Farfante, 1967), commonly known as pink shrimps, are two commercially important penaeid species caught by artisanal and industrial fisheries in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. The currently known southern distribution for F. brasiliensis extends to Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), while F. paulensis reaches the coastal waters of Buenos Aires (Argentina), although Uruguay represents the southern limit of commercial captures for the latter. In the shrimp season of 2019 (February-May) the presence of F. brasiliensis was recorded together with F. paulensis in the brackish coastal lagoons of Uruguay (34º30’ to 34º50’S). A total of 143 specimens of F. brasiliensis and 152 of F. paulensis were analyzed evaluating morphological, morphometric and genetic differences. The presence of both species was validated based on morphological differences and sequencing the Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) mitochondrial gene. Significant morphometric differences were found between both species, particularly, the larger rostral length in relation to the carapace and cephalothorax length in F. paulensis compared to F. brasiliensis. To our knowledge, this is the first confirmed record and commercial catch of F. brasiliensis in Uruguayan waters. This southwards expansion could be explained by extending climatic variability events associated with prolonged periods of positive sea surface temperature anomalies in the region. Given the potential commercial relevance of the species, a better understanding of the southward expansion of F. brasiliensis into Uruguayan waters would be helpful in developing efficient management and conservation strategies under a scenario of increasing water temperatures.

Abstract Animal biomass is a source of energy commonly discarded without or with low utilization, but its availability draws attention to its reuse [1]. The utilization can be carried out in different ways, varying in terms of generation time and efficiency. The use of biodigestion requires a relatively small area compared to landfills or natural composting, and it provides other materials besides biogas, that can be recycled as fertilizer and has a short residence time of residues [2]. The energy supplied as biogas can be harnessed as heat or electricity in case of conversion. Considering the energy needs of animal husbandry and the ease of reinsertion of energy in the production cycle, the possibility of distributed generation of biogas was studied as a way to complement the rural energy consumption matrix. Poultry farms require heat for chicks [3], dairy production centers require sterilization of used equipment [4] and pig farms require good heating systems to ensure animal weight gain [5]. In this way, the production can take advantage of the heat of the gas without the conversion into electricity, minimizing losses. Creation centers themselves can also generate electricity, eliminating the need for large transmission lines.

OBJETIVO: Nosso objetivo foi verificar o efeito agudo do alongamento estático sobre a variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC) em homens treinados. MÉTODOS: Oito voluntários (n = 8) foram randomicamente submetidos a duas situações, a saber: alongamento estático (AE) ou 20 minutos em repouso (CTRL). O protocolo de alongamento consistiu em duas séries de 30 segundos para musculatura do peitoral (40 segundos de intervalo). Após 48 horas, os procedimentos foram realizados de maneira reversa, de forma que todos os participantes realizaram as duas situações (ALONGAMENTO e CRTL) ao final do estudo. Os valores de VFC foram medidos antes e imediatamente depois das situações experimental e controle (alongamento vs. repouso). Para registro das variáveis cardíacas coletadas (rMSSD, pNN50, LF e HF) no presente estudo, nós utilizamos um relógio Polar RS800CX (Polar Electro OY, Finland). As análises estatísticas realizadas foram feitas através da aplicação do teste de Shapiro-Wilk seguido pelo teste t de Student pareado, sendo adotado um nível crítico de significância de p < 0.05. RESULTADOS: Nenhuma diferença significativa (p > 0.05) foi observada (alongamento vs. controle) quando as variáveis foram analisadas. CONCLUSÃO: O presente estudo sugere que o alongamento estático com baixo volume de aplicação não altera significativamente o controle simpato-vagal em homens treinados. Na medida em que o protocolo utilizado não resultou em diferenças significativas nas variáveis estudadas, nós inferimos que não há fundamento fisiologicamente válido para a realização deste tipo de exercício em sua forma tradicional pré-exercício quando o objetivo for a obtenção de ganhos na performance física.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the acute effect of static stretching on heart rate variability in trained men. METHODS: Eight subjects were randomly submitted to two situations, as follows: a static stretch protocol and 20 minutes at rest. The stretch protocol consisted of two sets of 30 seconds of static stretch of the chest muscles with a 40 second of interval between them. After 48 hours, the procedures were reversed so that all the subjects should were submitted to the two situations. The values of heart rate variability were measured before and after the experimental and control situation (stretch vs. rest). We registered the following cardiac variables: root mean square of standard deviation (rMSSD), the number of pairs of successive beats that differ by more than 50 ms (pNN50), low frequency (LF) and high frequency (HF). The Shapiro-Wilk and the paired Student's test were used for statistical analysis; a critical level of significance of p < 0.05 was adopted. RESULTS: No significant differences (p > 0.05) were found (stretching vs. control) to the RMSSD, pNN50, LF and HF indices. However, although no statistical differences were observed, the figures show large changes on mean values, suggesting an unclear effect on the sympathetic-vagal modulation. CONCLUSION: The present results suggest that a low intensity (motion range until discomfort point) and volume (1 minute) of static stretching does not significantly affect the acute sympathetic-vagal control in trained men. Because the protocol did not show differences regarding the studied variables, we suggest that there is not a sufficient level of physiological basis to perform this type of exercise in a traditional pre-exercise setting, if the purpose is obtain gains in physical performance.

ResumoOs objetivos desse estudo foram: 1) verificar as respostas do lactato sanguíneo e da frequência cardíaca (FC) durante um protocolo de campo específico de remada no surfe; 2) correlacionar os índices de capacidade e potência aeróbia determinados nesse protocolo específico com o tempo de prática da modalidade e variáveis antropométricas. Participaram deste estudo nove sujeitos (24 ± 4,5 anos; 72,2 ± 6,7 kg; 178,4 ± 4,8 cm) que foram submetidos a um teste progressivo intermitente de remada sobre a sua própria prancha de surfe, do tipo vai e vêm, com velocidades iniciais entre 1-1,1 m/s e incrementos de 0,05 m/s a cada 3 min até a exaustão voluntária. Uma resposta linear e exponencial foram observadas para a FC e o lactato sanguíneo, respectivamente, durante o protocolo incremental. Este comportamento foi semelhante ao demonstrado durante protocolos incrementais com objetivo de avaliar a capacidade e a potência aeróbia realizados em outras modalidades cíclicas. Além disso, foram encontradas correlações significantes entre o pico de velocidade (PV) e a velocidade correspondente ao início do acúmulo de lactato no sangue (vOBLA) (r = 0,87, p = 0,005) e do PV com tempo de prática de surfe (r = 0,70, p = 0,03). No entanto, não foram encontradas correlações significativas entre PV e vOBLA com nenhuma das variáveis antropométricas mensuradas. Assim, podemos concluir que o protocolo incremental específico de remada no surfe utilizado no presente estudo poderia ser uma ferramenta útil na determinação de índices relacionados à capacidade (vOBLA) e potência (PV) aeróbia de surfistas.

AbstractThe aim of this study were: 1) to analyse heart rate (HR) and blood lactate (La) responses during a protocol of intermittent surfing paddle on board; 2) to correlate the aerobic capacity and power indexes determined from this specific protocol with the experience in surfing practice and anthropometric variables. Participated in the study nine subjects (24 ± 4.5 years; 72.2 ± 6.7 kg; 178.4 ± 4.8 cm) were submitted to an intermittent incremental shuttle paddle test on the surfboard, with initial velocity between 1 to 1.1 m/s and increments from 0.05 m/s for each 3 min until volitional exhaustion. During the incremental protocol, linear and exponential responses were observed for HR and La, respectively. These responses were similar to those demonstrated during incremental protocols in cyclic exercise modes aiming to assess the aerobic power and capacity. They were found significant correlations between the peak velocity (PV) and velocity at the Onset Blood Lactate Accumulation (vOBLA) (r = 0.87) and between the PV and experience in surfing practice (r = 0.7). However, they were found no significant correlations between PV and vOBLA with anthropometrics variables and weekly training volume. Thus, we conclude that the specific protocol of intermittent surfing paddle could be a useful tool to determine indices related with aerobic power (PV) and capacity (OBLA) of surfers.

O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a influência da cafeína no desempenho dos 200 metros rasos (200 m). Dezessete indivíduos fisicamente ativos (21,5 ± 2,15 anos; 175,9 ± 5,5 cm; 74,1 ± 10,04 kg) executaram em dias diferentes duas performances de 200m. Uma hora antes do teste foi ingerido de modo duplo-cego e randomizado cápsula gelatinosa contendo cafeína (6mg.kg-1) ou placebo. Foram analisados o tempo final dos 200 m rasos e o lactato sanguíneo ([La]; repouso, pré-aquecimento e pós-teste). A ingestão de cafeína diminuiu significantemente o tempo no desempenho dos 200m em relação ao placebo (27,398 ± 1,626 vs. 27,596 ± 1,714 s, respectivamente) e aumentou as [La] pré-aquecimento (1,236 ± 0,497 vs 1,064 ± 0,330 mM) sem modificações na [La] pico. Assim, podemos concluir que a ingestão de cafeína exerceu efeito ergogênico no desempenho com característica anaeróbia, nos indivíduos ativos avaliados neste estudo. Contudo a ausência de modificação na [La] pico indica que essa melhora não parece estar relacionada a um maior fluxo glicolítico.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of caffeine ingestion on 200 meters performance (200 m). Seventeen physical education students (21.5 ± 2.15 years; 175.9 ± 5.5 cm; 74.1 ± 10.04 kg) performed on two different days two performances of 200 m. One hour before the performance the participants ingested a gelatin capsule containing either caffeine (6 mg.kg-1) or placebo in a randomized double-blinded manner. Were analyzed the end time of the 200 m race and blood lactate ([La]; rest, pre-warm-up and post-test) Caffeine intake decreased the time to overcome 200 m race compared to placebo intake (27.398 ± 1.626 and 27.596 ± 1.714 s, respectively) and increased blood lactate concentration [La] pre-warm-up (1.236 ± 0.497; 1.064 ± 0.330 mM, respectively) without modification in [La] peak. Thus, we conclude that caffeine intake exert an ergogenic effect on anaerobic performance, however analyzing the [La] peak, this improvement does not seem to be related to increased glycolytic flux.

O objetivo do estudo foi comparar o ponto de deflexão da freqüência cardíaca (PDFC) visual e método DMAX com a máxima fase estável de lactato (MFEL). Treze corredores executaram teste incremental Vameval e testes de cargas retangulares (TCR). A velocidade do PDFC visual (14,3 ± 1,13km.h-1) foi significantemente maior que o DMAX (13,2 ± 1,35km.h-1) além de apresentarem correlação não significante. Entretanto, nenhuma dessas velocidades foram diferentes da MFEL (13,8 ± 0,90km.h-1) embora somente o PDFC visual tenha apresentado correlação significante com a MFEL (r = 0,75). A concentração de lactato sanguíneo não apresentou estabilidade em oito sujeitos no TCR na intensidade do PDFC visual o qual nos leva a concluir que este não é um índice confiável para estimativa da MFEL. No entanto, este índice pode ser usado como um indicador de capacidade aeróbia.

The aim of study was to compare heart rate deflection point (HRDP) determined by visual and DMAX methods to Maximal lactate steady state (MLSS). Thirteen runners carried out incremental test Vameval and constant load tests (CLT). Velocity of HRDP (14,3 ± 1,13km.h-1) was significantly higher compared to DMAX (13,2 ± 1,35km.h-1) but they were not significantly correlated. However, both velocities, HRDP and DMAX, were not different from MLSS (13,8 ± 0,90km.h-1) while only HRDP has been significant correlated with MLSS (r = 0,75). On eight runners during CLT the blood lactate concentration did not show stability at HRDP velocity which to let us to conclude that HRPD is not appropriated to estimate MLSS. However, it may be used as aerobic capacity index.

O efeito ergogênico da cafeína em exercícios anaeróbios permanece controverso, parecendo ser dependente da duração do exercício, protocolo utilizado e do estado de treinamento dos sujeitos estudados. Assim, esta revisão surge na tentativa de analisar as pesquisas que investigaram o efeito da cafeína no desempenho de exercícios predominantemente anaeróbios e principalmente, discutir a respeito dos diferentes métodos utilizados, objetivando verificar de que forma isto pode explicar os resultados controversos, além de apresentar os possíveis mecanismos de ação da cafeína. Em simples esforços anaeróbios com duração inferior a 30 segundos, a cafeína parece exercer influência no desempenho apenas em atletas, no entanto, mais estudos precisam ser feitos nesta população. Já em exercícios um pouco mais extensos (de 60 até 180 segundos), a cafeína parece melhorar o desempenho independentemente do estado de treinamento. O mecanismo de ação ainda não está claro, entretanto, existem evidências que a ação da cafeína é multifatorial, visto que esta substância altera características centrais e periféricas. Dentre as principais características, a cafeína atua como receptor antagônico de adenosina, aumentando a excitabilidade do sistema nervoso central e alterando a percepção de esforço e de dor, além disso, diminui a sensibilidade do retículo sarcoplasmático na liberação do cálcio. Novas pesquisas que investiguem o papel da cafeína em exercícios anaeróbios devem ser realizadas, utilizando amostras de indivíduos adaptados ao treinamento anaeróbio, bem como protocolos semelhantes ao de esportes cíclicos a fim de esclarecer os resultados contraditórios.

The ergogenic effect of caffeine on anaerobic exercises remains controversial. Such effect seems to depend on exercise duration, test protocol, and training status of the subjects studied. Thus, the objective of this review of the literature was to analyze studies investigating the effect of caffeine on the performance of anaerobic exercises and to discuss the different methods used to measure this effect in order to try to explain controversial results, as well as to present possible mechanisms of action of caffeine. During anaerobic exercises lasting less than 30 seconds, caffeine appears to have an influence only on the performance of athletes; however, there is need of further studies with this population. Nevertheless, in longer exercises (from 60 to 180 seconds), caffeine seems to improve performance regardless of the training status. The mechanism of action remains unclear; however, there is evidence that the action of caffeine is multifactorial, since this substance changes central and peripheral characteristics. Among the main characteristics, caffeine acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist, increasing the excitability of the central nervous system and changing the perception of effort and pain, in addition to reducing the sensitivity of the sarcoplasmic reticulum during calcium release. Further studies investigating the role of caffeine in anaerobic exercises should be conducted using anaerobically trained individuals and protocols similar to those of cyclic sports in order to clarify the contradictory results.

OBJETIVOS: Interações medicamentosas ocorrem quando os efeitos e/ou a toxicidade de um fármaco são alterados pela presença de outro. São geralmente imprevistas e indesejáveis. Realizado estudo com objetivo de verificar a prevalência e o valor clínico das interações medicamentosas potenciais em unidades de terapia intensiva. MÉTODOS: Incluídos todos pacientes de três unidades de terapia intensiva em um período de 2 meses, analisados transversalmente. Foram excluídos aqueles com tempo de permanência menor que 2 dias. Os dados foram tabulados de acordo com as combinações de fármacos observadas no período de 24 horas. A presença e o valor clínico das interações medicamentosas potenciais foram conferidos ao final do seguimento. RESULTADOS: Analisados 140 pacientes, 67,1% apresentaram alguma interações medicamentosas potenciais significativa e das 1069 prescrições, 39,2% tiveram este achado. De 188 interações medicamentosas potenciais diferentes, 29 foram consideradas altamente significativas. Por análise univariada, observou-se no grupo que apresentou interação significativa maior quantidade de medicamentos, fármacos/dia, número de médicos prescritores e tempo de internação na unidade de teapia intensiva. Por modelo de regressão logística multivariada, apenas o número de fármacos/dia correlacionou-se com o aumento do risco de interação medicamentosa potencial significativa (p = 0.0011); o uso de mais que 6 medicamentos/dia aumenta em 9.8 vezes este risco. CONCLUSÕES: Pacientes em unidades de terapia intensiva estão submetidos a alto risco de interações medicamentosas potenciais e o número de fármacos/dia é condição com alto valor preditivo positivo para tal. Os intensivistas devem ser alertados para o reconhecimento do problema e criados mecanismos para o manejo adequado e prudente, diminuindo iatrogenias.

OBJECTIVES: Drug interactions occur when effects and/or toxicity of a drug are affected by presence of another drug. They are usually unpredictable and undesirable. A study was conducted to verify the prevalence and clinical value of potential drug interactions in intensive care units METHODS: All patients, of three intensive care units were included in a cross-sectional study, over a period of two months. Patients with less than a 2 days length of stay were excluded. Data were collected from twenty-four hour prescriptions and all possible paired combinations drug-drug were recorded. Prevalence and clinical value (significance) were checked at the end of follow-up. RESULTS: One hundred and forty patients were analyzed, 67.1% presented with some significant potential drug interactions and of the 1069 prescriptions, 39.2% disclosed the same potential. Of 188 different potential drug interactions, 29 were considered highly significant. Univariate analysis showed that in the group with significant potential drug interactions a higher number of different drugs, drugs/day had been used, there were more prescribing physicians and extended stay in intensive care units. Adjusted to the multivariate logistic regression model, only the number of drugs/day correlated with increased risk of significant potential drug interaction (p = 0.0011) and, furthermore that use of more than 6 drugs/day increased relative risk by 9.8 times. CONCLUSIONS: Critically ill patients are submitted to high risk of potential drug interactions and the number of drugs/day has a high positive predictive value for these interactions. Therefore, it is imperative that critical care physicians be constantly alert to recognize this problem and provide appropriate mechanisms for management, thereby reducing adverse outcomes.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da temperatura sobre a biologia dos biótipos "milho" e "arroz" de Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) e estimar o número de gerações por ano em laboratório e campo. Foram coletadas lagartas de quatro populações de S. frugiperda no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, identificadas eletroforeticamente como os biótipos "milho" e "arroz", em áreas isoladas, distanciadas entre si em mais de 300 km, produtoras de milho e arroz irrigado e em áreas adjacentes, que produzem milho e arroz irrigado lado a lado. A temperatura mais adequada para o desenvolvimento dos dois biótipos foi 25ºC. Em laboratório, podem ser obtidas 11,0 e 11,3 gerações ano-1 do biótipo "milho" proveniente de áreas isoladas e adjacentes, respectivamente. Foram estimadas 12,1 gerações ano-1 do biótipo "arroz" quando proveniente de áreas isoladas e 12,2 gerações ano-1 quando proveniente de áreas adjacentes. Em campo, estimou-se a ocorrência de 8,3 e 6,1 gerações ano-1 do biótipo "milho", respectivamente, em áreas isoladas e áreas adjacentes e 8,4 e 7,0 gerações ano-1 do biótipo "arroz", respectivamente, em áreas isoladas e áreas adjacentes. Em áreas adjacentes, o biótipo "arroz" apresenta uma geração a mais ao longo de um ano em relação ao biótipo "milho".

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the temperature on the biology of the biotypes "corn" and "rice" of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and to estimate the number of generations per year in laboratory and field. Caterpillars of four populations of S. frugiperda were collected in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, identified by electrophoresis as the biotypes "corn" and "rice" in isolated areas (spaced for more than 300 km), areas of corn and irrigated rice production, as well as in adjacent areas that produces corn and rice irrigated side by side. The most appropriate temperature for the development of the two biotypes was 25ºC. In laboratory, a number between 11.0 and 11.3 generations year-1 for the biotype "corn" can be obtained, originating from isolated and adjacent areas, respectively, and, for the biotype "rice", 12.1 and 12.2 generations year-1 when originating from isolated and adjacent areas, respectively. In the field, the occurrence of 8.3 and 6.1 generations year-1 for the biotype "corn" was estimated, respectively, in isolated and adjacent areas and 8.4 and 7.0 generations year-1 for the "rice" biotype, respectively, in isolated and adjacent areas. In adjacent areas, the "rice" biotype presents an extra generation per year in relation to the "corn" biotype.

Conduziu-se este trabalho com o objetivo de determinar, mediante medidas de consumo e utilização de alimento, a temperatura mais adequada para a criação de Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. SMITH, 1797) em dieta artificial. Foram individualizadas 50 lagartas em recipientes de vidro de 2,5 cm de diâmetro x 8,5 cm de altura, mantidos a 25 ± 1ºC e 28 ± 1ºC, com umidade relativa de 70 ± 15% e fotofase 14 horas. Foram determinados, com base em matéria seca, o peso seco da lagarta no máximo desenvolvimento, do alimento consumido e das fezes eliminadas, e calculados os índices nutricionais: taxa de consumo relativo (RCR), taxa metabólica relativa (RMR), taxa de crescimento relativo (RGR), digestibilidade aproximada (AD), eficiência de conversão do alimento ingerido (ECI), eficiência de conversão do alimento digerido (ECD) e custo metabólico (100-ECD). Considerando que o peso das lagartas no máximo desenvolvimento foi similar nas duas temperaturas, a 28ºC houve maior ECI e ECD e um menor 100-ECD e, conseqüentemente, as lagartas de S. frugiperda consumiram uma menor quantidade de alimento, reduzindo a duração da fase larval. Assim, em laboratório, a temperatura de 28ºC é a mais adequada para manutenção de S. fru giperda em dieta artificial.

The aim of this work was to determine the most suitable temperature for rearing Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. SMITH, 1797) in artificial diet, by means of measuring food consumption and utilization. Fifty larvae were individualized in glass containers of 2.5 cm in diameter x 8.5 cm in height in climate chamber, at 25 ± 1ºC and 28 ± 1ºC temperature with 70 ± 15% relative humidity and 14 hours of photophase. Based on dry matter, were determined the dry weight of the larvae at maximum development, of the food consumed and of the feces eliminated, and the nutritional ratios were calculated: relative consumption ratio (RCR), relative metabolic ratio (RMR), relative growth ratio (RGR), approximate digestibilidade (AD), efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI) and the efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD). Considering that weight of larvae in maximum development was similar in two temperatures, at 28ºC were a larger ECI and ECD and lower 100-ECD, consequently, the larvae of S. frugiperda consumed a lower amount of food reducing the duration of larval phase. Thus, in laboratory, the temperature of 28ºC demonstrated to be the most appropriate for rearing of S. frugiperda in artificial diet.

Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de desenvolvimento de um sistema informativo, projetado especificamente para o levantamento dos dados operacionais no campo, o que visa ao gerenciamento da informação na propriedade agrícola. O sistema utiliza ondas de rádio para o reconhecimento automático à distância, de todos os "objetos" existentes no campo (tratorista, trator, implemento e local de trabalho). Os dados levantados, depois de processados, podem ser usados pelo empresário nas atividades de controle, em âmbito diretivo e estratégico. Foram realizados ensaios estáticos, estudando-se os parâmetros de identificação da máquina no campo.O sistema está sendo aperfeiçoado.

After discussing the aspects related to the information role and management on farms, the paper proposes a solution for the development of an information system specifically designed to collect data from field operations. The system employs radio frequency devices to perform an automatic identification of all the "objects" acting in each field process (worker, tractor, implement, field). Collected data are elaborated and then used by the farmer for management and strategic control activities. Static tests were developed to identify the machine in the field. The system is under further development.
