Abstract The TP53 3’UTR variant rs78378222 A>C has been detected in different tumor types as a somatic alteration that reduces p53 expression through modification of polyadenylation and miRNA regulation. Its prevalence is not yet known in all tumors. Herein, we examine tumor tissue prevalence of rs7837822 in Brazilian cohorts of patients from south and southeast regions diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD, n=586), sarcoma (SARC, n=188) and uterine leiomyoma (ULM, n=41). The minor allele (C) was identified in heterozygosity in 6/586 LUAD tumors (prevalence = 1.02 %) and none of the SARC and ULM samples. Additionally, next generation sequencing analysis revealed that all variant-positive tumors (n=4) with sample availability had additional pathogenic or likely pathogenic somatic variants in the TP53 coding regions. Among them, 3/4 (75 %) had the same pathogenic or likely pathogenic sequence variant (allele frequency <0.05 in tumor DNA) namely c.751A>C (p.Ile251Leu). Our results indicate a low somatic prevalence of rs78378222 in LUAD, ULM and SARC tumors from Brazilian patients, which suggests that no further analysis of this variant in the specific studied regions of Brazil is warranted. However, these findings should not exclude tumor molecular testing of this TP53 3’UTR functional variant for different populations.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate the preverbal and verbal patterns in autism spectrum disorder, to more easily predict the need for implementation of the Picture Exchange Communication System in autistic children who are about to start speech language therapy. Methods: a cross-sectional study with a sample consisted of 62 children aged 2 to 10 years, presented with autism spectrum disorder. The Vocal Behavior Assessment which analyzes the preverbal and verbal patterns through three parameters, that is, Mean Extension (mean verbal emission), Speech Characterization (number of atypical emissions) and Language Range (typical emissions of child development), was used. Sociodemographic data, intellectual quotient and non-adaptive behaviors were also analyzed, by using the logistic regression model. Results: there was a high sensitivity (0.915) and specificity (0.867) for the variables Speech Characterization (p=0,000) and Mean Extension (p=0,001). The other numerical variables, such as age, time of schooling, non-adaptive behaviors and intellectual quotient of children were tested but were not identified as potential predictors for the outcome of interest of the study. Conclusion: the indices of Speech Characterization and Mean Extension were identified as predictors for the indication of the Picture Exchange Communication System in children who are about to start speech language therapy.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar os padrões pré-verbal e verbal no Transtorno do Espectro Autista, com intuito de predizer mais facilmente a necessidade de implantação do Picture Exchange Communication System em crianças autistas que estejam prestes a iniciar a intervenção terapêutica fonoaudiológica. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo transversal. A amostra foi constituída por 62 crianças, de 2 a 10 anos, com Transtorno do Espectro Autista. Utilizou-se a Avaliação do Comportamento Vocal que analisa os padrões pré-verbal e verbal por meio de três parâmetros: Extensão Média (média de emissão verbal), Caracterização da Fala (quantidade de emissões atípicas) e Faixa da Linguagem (emissões típicas do desenvolvimento infantil). Foram analisados, também, dados sociodemográficos, quociente intelectual e comportamentos não-adaptativos. Utilizou-se modelo de regressão logística. Resultados: houve alta sensibilidade (0,915) e especificidade (0,867) para as variáveis: Caracterização da Fala (p<0,001) e Extensão Média (p=0,001). As demais variáveis numéricas: idade, tempo de escolaridade, comportamentos não-adaptativos e quociente intelectual foram testadas, mas não foram identificadas como potenciais preditores para o desfecho de interesse do estudo. Conclusão: identificaram-se os índices de Caracterização da Fala e Extensão Média como preditores para indicação do Picture Exchange Communication System em crianças prestes a iniciar o processo de intervenção fonoaudiológica.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi produzir análise multimodal exploratória sobre a atenção compartilhada. Utilizou-se a ferramenta ELAN (EUDICO Language Annotator), software com recursos para sincronização temporal e especiais para modalidades verbal e não verbal, que facilitam a visualização e anotação de contextos interacionais. Foram analisados e transcritos trechos de dez minutos de sessão de avaliação fonoaudiológica de uma criança em investigação para transtorno do espectro do autismo (TEA) e outra, com desenvolvimento típico, pareadas por faixa etária e gênero. Foram investigadas e quantificadas as ocorrências espontâneas de direcionamento do olhar das crianças para: os olhos do interlocutor; os brinquedos e/ou brincadeiras; os olhos do interlocutor – brinquedos (atenção compartilhada). As ocorrências de direcionamento do olhar diferiram entre as crianças de forma quantitativa e qualitativa. A criança com suspeita de TEA não produziu episódio de atenção compartilhada, nem direcionou seu olhar para o interlocutor. Foram 56 ocorrências de direcionamentos de olhar apenas para os brinquedos. A criança em desenvolvimento típico produziu 18 ocorrências de atenção compartilhada, sendo que, em todas as vezes que direcionou o olhar para os olhos do interlocutor, o fez para compartilhar o brinquedo ou brincadeira. Observou-se, ainda, 37 ocorrências de direcionamento do olhar para o brinquedo. A partir da análise exploratória produzida pela ferramenta ELAN, foi possível observar que houve diferença em número de ocorrência e trajetória do olhar entre as duas crianças e verificar que a atenção compartilhada esteve ausente na criança com risco para TEA.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to produce exploratory multimodal analysis on joint attention. We used the ELAN tool: software with resources for temporal and special synchronization for verbal and non-verbal modalities that facilitate the visualization and annotation of interactional contexts. Excerpts of ten minutes of speech and language pathology evaluation of the child with suspected ASD and of another child with typical development matched by age group and gender, were analyzed and transcribed. Spontaneous occurrences of the child's gaze were investigated: a) Towards the interlocutor's eyes. b) Towards toys or play. c) Towards the interlocutor's eyes and toys (Joint Attention). The occurrences of look direction differed between children in a quantitative and qualitative way. The child with suspected ASD did not produce an episode of joint attention, nor did he direct his gaze to the interlocutor. There were 56 occurrences of gazing towards the toys. The typical child produced 18 occurrences of joint attention, and whenever he directed his eyes to the interlocutor's eyes, he did so with the intention of sharing the toy or play. We also observed 37 occurrences of gazing towards the toy or play. From the exploratory analysis produced by ELAN tool, it was possible to observe that there were differences in the number of occurrences and look direction between the evaluated children and to verify that the joint attention was absent in the child with ASD risk.

Abstract Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevalence has been growing, hence the importance of studying food alternatives with reduced sodium content sensory well accepted. Develop culinary preparations reduced in sodium, with addition of glutamic acid-rich ingredients, and evaluate their sensory acceptance. Research about use of glutamic acid-rich ingredients in recipes was done. Recipes were developed, aiming good sensory acceptance; their salt content was estimated by using TACO and USDA’s food composition table. They were later submitted to sensory analysis, in which was applied 9-point hedonic scale (global acceptance and flavor), and linear scale of 10 cm (salt intensity). Data was analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey Test (p < 0.05) with software FIZZ Biosystemes. Herbs pie samples with parmesan cheese had better acceptance and salt intensity was perceived as moderate. Bruschetta samples, with tomatoes, were well accepted regardless the presence of refined salt or herbs; and had a harmonious salt intensity perception. Salt intensity was considered adequate on chicken stroganoff samples while champignon mushrooms provided better global acceptance. All samples had 50-60% less salt than traditional recipes. Ingredients naturally rich in glutamic acid (parmesan cheese, tomatoes and mushrooms) are good for strategies of sodium content reduction in culinary preparations, without reduce sensorial acceptance.

ABSTRACT Enzymatically crossliked gelatin hydrogel was submitted to two different drying methods: air drying and freeze drying. The resulting polymeric tridimensional arrangement (compact or porous, respectively) led to different thermal and swelling properties. Significant differences (p < 0.05) on thermal and mechanical characteristics as well as swelling in non-enzymatic gastric and intestinal simulated fluids (37 ºC) were detected. Water absorption data in such media was modelled according to Higuchi, Korsmeyer-Peppas, and Peppas-Sahlin equations. Freeze dried hydrogel showed Fickian diffusion behavior while air dried hydrogels presented poor adjustment to Higuchi model suggesting the importance of the relaxation mechanism at the beginning of swelling process. It was possible to conclude that the same gelatin hydrogel may be suitable to different applications depending on the drying process used.

OBJETIVO: o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar, in vitro, a influência do gel clareador e da utilização de dessensibilizante na resistência adesiva de braquetes cerâmicos colados ao esmalte bovino. MÉTODOS: cem incisivos bovinos foram aleatoriamente divididos em cinco grupos (n = 20). Grupo 1, sem clareamento (controle); Grupo 2, clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35%; Grupo 3, clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35%, sendo três aplicações de 15 minutos cada, e aplicação do dessensibilizante por 10 minutos; Grupo 4, clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35% durante 40 minutos; Grupo 5, clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35% durante 40 minutos e aplicação do dessensibilizante durante 10 minutos. Os braquetes foram colados sete dias após o clareamento e submetidos ao teste de resistência ao cisalhamento após 24 horas, a uma velocidade de compressão de 1mm/minuto. Após a fratura, avaliava-se o braquete, com lupa estereoscópica, com magnificação de 40x, e o Índice de Remanescente Adesivo (IRA). Os dados de resistência ao cisalhamento (MPa) foram submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste de Tukey, com nível de significância de 5%. RESULTADOS: os resultados mostraram que as amostras do Grupo 5 apresentaram resistência de união significativamente superior à dos grupos 1, 2 e 4, mas sem diferença do Grupo 3. Não houve diferença significativa entre a resistência de união dos demais grupos. O Índice de Remanescente Adesivo mostrou predominância do escore 3, ou seja, toda resina permaneceu aderida ao esmalte, para todos os grupos. CONCLUSÃO: pôde-se concluir que o clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35%, com cálcio associado à aplicação do dessensibilizante, produziu maior resistência dos braquetes ao esmalte bovino.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess, in vitro, the influence of bleaching gel and the use of desensitizing agent over bond strength of ceramic brackets bonded to bovine enamel. METHODS: One hundred bovine incisors were selected and randomly divided into five groups (n = 20): Group 1, control group (without bleaching); Group 2, bleached with 35% hydrogen peroxide; Group 3, bleached with 35% hydrogen peroxide (three applications, 15 minutes each) and desensitizing agent applied for 10 minutes; Group 4, bleached with 35% hydrogen peroxide for 40 minutes; Group 5, bleached with 35% hydrogen peroxide for 40 minutes with desensitizing agent applied for 10 minutes. Brackets were bonded 7 days after bleaching and submitted to shear bond strength test after 24 hours at a compression rate of 1 mm/minute. After fracture, the adhesive remnant index (ARI) was assessed under stereoscopic at 40 x magnification. Shear strength data (MPa) were submitted to one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test with significance level set at 5%. RESULTS: Group 5 (29.33 MPa) showed significantly higher bond strength than Group 1 (19.19 MPa), Group 2 (20.59 MPa) and Group 4 (23.25 MPa), but with no difference in comparison to Group 3. There was no significant difference among the other groups. The adhesive remnant index showed predominance of score 3, that is, all resin remained adhered to enamel for all groups. CONCLUSION: Bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide with calcium associated with desensitizing agent application produced higher bond strength values of brackets bonded to bovine enamel.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a etiologia, no primeiro atendimento, dos casos de hipotireoidismo congênito primário (HCP) identificados pelo Programa de Triagem Neonatal de Santa Catarina entre julho de 2007 e junho de 2009. SUJEITOS E MÉTODOS: Estudo prospectivo com 45 pacientes com HCP confirmado. Para o diagnóstico etiológico, eram realizados na primeira consulta: anamnese, exames físico e complementares (TSH, tiroxina livre, tireoglobulina, idade óssea, ultrassonografia de tireoide). RESULTADOS: Estabeleceu-se o diagnóstico etiológico na primeira consulta em 53,33%. Disgenesia representou 51,11%, sendo 20% hipoplasia, 13,3% atireose e 17,7% ectopia; e 2,2% foram diagnosticados com disormoniogênese. Hérnia umbilical foi o sinal mais prevalente (48,89%) e 20% não apresentaram manifestação clínica. Aqueles com disgenesia apresentaram diferença significativa (p < 0,05) pela via de parto cesária, idade óssea atrasada e TSH sérico muito elevado. CONCLUSÕES: A abordagem diagnóstica realizada no primeiro atendimento determina a etiologia do HCP em 53,3% dos casos. A metade dos pacientes apresenta disgenesia tireoidiana. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the etiology of primary congenital hypothyroidism (PCH) identified in the Newborn Screening Program from the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, from July 2007 to June 2009 in the first visit. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A prospective study was performed in 45 patients with PCH. For the etiological diagnosis, history, physical examination, and additional tests (TSH, free thyroxine, thyroglobulin, bone age assessment, thyroid ultrasound) were carried out in the first visit. RESULTS: The etiology was established in the first visit in 53.3% of cases. Thyroid dysgenesis represented 51.11% of the cases, from which 20% showed hypoplastic thyroid, 13.3% showed athyreosis, and 17.7% showed ectopic glands; 2.2% were diagnosed with dyshormonogenesis. Umbilical hernia was the most prevalent sign (48.89%) and 20% had no clinical manifestations. Patients with dysgenesis showed significant differences (p < 0.05) in terms of cesarean section delivery, delayed bone age, and very high serum TSH. CONCLUSIONS: The diagnostic approach used at first visit for PCH patients may determine the etiology in 53.3% of cases. Half of patients had thyroid dysgenesis. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare the flexural strength of the stems of three maxillary expanders screws of Morelli, Forestadent and Dentaurum brands. METHODS: The sample consisted of nine expander screws (totalizing of 36 stems), three from each brand, all stainless steel and 12 mm of expansion capacity. The stems of the expander screws were cut with cutting pliers close to the weld region with screw body, then fixed in a universal testing machine Instron 4411 for tests of bending resistance of three points. The ultimate strength in kgF exerted by the machine to bend the stem of the 5 mm screw was recorded and the flexural strength was calculated using a mathematical formula. During the flexural strength test it was verified the modulus of elasticity of the stems by means of Bluehill 2 software. The flexural strength data were subjected to ANOVA with one criterion and Tukey's test, with significance level of 5%. RESULTS: Forestadent screw brand showed the greatest bending strength, significantly higher than Dentaurum. Morelli showed the lowest resistance. CONCLUSION: The flexural strength of the screws varied according to the brand. Forestadent screw showed the greatest resistance and Morelli the lowest. All the three screws were found adequate for use in procedures for rapid maxillary expansion.

Paracoccidioidomicose (PBM) é uma infecção causada por um fungo dimórfico: Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. Ocorre na América Latina, com incidência de 1 a 3 por 100.000 habitantes em áreas endêmicas. O acometimento do trato digestivo é infrequente, sendo que pode levar a manifestações semelhantes à neoplasia colorretal e doença inflamatória intestinal (DII). Relatamos o caso da paciente feminina, 68 anos, com diarreia sem sangue ou muco há seis meses, com perda ponderal de 8 kg no período. Ultrassom abdominal evidenciou massa em cólon direito sugestiva de neoplasia e linfonodomegalia peri-hilar hepática. A colonoscopia evidenciou lesões sugestivas de doença de Crohn. A biopsia mostrou colite crônica granulomatosa de etiologia fúngica: Paracoccidioidomicose. A paciente não tolerou tratamento oral com itraconazol e, posteriormente, sulfadiazina. Necessitou de internação para tratamento com anfotericina B. O acometimento da PBM no trato digestivo pode cursar com diarreia muco-sanguinolenta, retorragia, dor abdominal e síndrome de má absorção. O estudo histopatológico mostra o fungo e um infiltrado inflamatório crônico com tecido de granulação. Os diagnósticos diferenciais são tuberculose, câncer colorretal e doença inflamatória intestinal. O tratamento é feito com antifúngicos orais (itraconazol, sulfadiazina) ou endovenosos (anfotericina B). O caso levou à confusão diagnóstica entre câncer de cólon (US e quadro clínico) e doença de Crohn (colonoscopia).

Paracoccidioidomycosis (PBM) is an infection caused by a dimorphic fungus called Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. It occurs in Latin America, with incidence of 1 to 3 per 100,000 inhabitants in endemic areas. The digestive tract is usually not affected, but when it occurs, it may lead to events similar to colorectal neoplasm and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This is a case report of a 68-year-old female patient, with diarrhea without blood or mucus for 6 months, weight loss of 8 kg over the period. Abdominal ultrasonography showed some mass in the right colon, suggestive of cancer and liver perihilar lymph node. Colonoscopy showed lesions suggestive of Crohn's disease. Biopsy showed chronic granulomatous colitis of fungal etiology: Paracoccidioidomycosis. The patient did not tolerate oral treatment with itraconazole and subsequently sulfadiazine, requiring hospital admission for the treatment with amphotericin B. The presence of Paracoccidioidomycosis in the digestive tract may be associated with bloody diarrhea, mucus, rectal hemorrhage, abdominal pain, malabsorption syndrome. Histopathological studies show the fungus and a chronic inflammatory infiltrate and granulation tissue. The differential diagnoses are tuberculosis, colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. The treatment is oral antifungal (itraconazole, sulfadiazine) or intravenous (amphotericin B) based. The case has caused diagnostic confusion between colon cancer (clinical and US) and Crohn's disease (colonoscopy).

As internações por condições sensíveis à atenção primária representam condições de saúde que podem ter o risco de hospitalização desnecessária diminuído, por meio de ações efetivas da atenção primária. Essas internações vêm sendo usadas como indicador do acesso e qualidade da atenção básica, mas não existe consenso quanto às doenças que devem fazer parte desse indicador. Apresenta-se uma descrição das etapas seguidas para a construção da lista brasileira de internações por condições sensíveis à atenção primária. A lista final é composta por vinte grupos de diagnósticos, que representavam 28,3% das hospitalizações realizadas pelo Sistema Único de Saúde em 2006, em um total de cerca de 2,8 milhões de internações. Gastroenterites e complicações, insuficiência cardíaca e asma corresponderam a 44,1%. De 2000 a 2006, as internações por condições sensíveis à atenção primária caíram 15,8% no país, e o declínio dessas hospitalizações foi maior do que as internações não-internações por condições sensíveis à atenção primária. São discutidas as aplicações e limites da lista nacional de internações por condições sensíveis à atenção primária.

These hospitalizations have been used as an indicator of primary care performance in several countries and in three Brazilian states, but there is little consensus on which conditions should be included in this indicator. This paper presents a description of the steps undertaken to construct and validate a list for Brazil. The final list includes 20 groups of diagnostic conditions that represented 28.3% of a total of 2.8 million hospitalizations in the National Unified Health System in 2006. Gastroenteritis and complications, congestive heart failure, and asthma represented 44.1% of all ambulatory care sensitive hospitalizations. From 2000 to 2006, ambulatory care sensitive hospitalizations decreased by 15.8%, and this reduction was more significant than that observed in all other hospitalizations. The article concludes with potential applications and limitations of the proposed Brazilian list.

Na última década, com o uso excessivo de herbicidas, começaram a surgir alguns problemas como a resistência de plantas daninhas e seleção de flora, além do acúmulo destes produtos contaminando mananciais hídricos e solos. Como alternativa, há uma tendência recente em se estudar e desenvolver inimigos naturais para o controle das plantas daninhas, ou seja, o controle biológico. Sementes de fedegoso colonizadas por Alternaria cassiae foram incorporadas no solo, visando o controle de plantas de Senna obtusifolia. Para tanto, foram instalados dois experimentos em casa-de-vegetação com vasos. A inoculação do solo dos vasos com posterior incorporação nos primeiros 2-3 cm superficiais foi efetuada com sementes colonizadas. Após incorporação, sementes íntegras de Senna obtusifolia, previamente escarificadas, foram semeadas no solo dos vasos. O delineamento experimental adotado foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições adotando as seguintes variáveis: a) duas formas de inóculo (sementes inteiras e sementes moídas); b) quatro quantidades por unidade de área (10t/ha; 6,5t/ha; 3,3t/ha e 1,7t/ha); c) testemunha sem incorporação de inóculo ao solo. Os parâmetros avaliados foram, contagem do número de plantas emergidas e pesagem da matéria seca acumulada na parte aérea e do sistema radicular das plantas. Em ambos os experimentos, houve uma tendência de diminuição do número de plantas vivas, da biomassa seca da parte aérea e da matéria seca acumulada no sistema radicular à medida que foi aumentando a quantidade de inóculo incorporado no solo. Os efeitos de controle promovidos pelas duas formas de inóculo não diferiram expressivamente entre si.

In the last decade, the excessive use of chemical control resulted in changes in the weed communities, which led to strong shifting in their population and finally in resistance to several herbicides. This is a very good opportunity to use biological management as a complementary method to control the selected weeds. Sicklepod seeds colonized by Alternaria cassiae were amended to the soil to control Senna obtusifolia plants. Two experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions, where the colonized seeds (inoculum) were applied to the soil by dispersal over its surface and incorporation in the 2-3 cm layer. After fungal application, S. obtusifolia seeds previously scarified with sulfuric acid were sown in pots. The experimental design was the completely randomized with four replications. A factorial arrangement of treatments was used and the variables were: a) two granulations of inoculum (whole and chopped colonized seeds); b) four inoculum concentrations (10, 6.5, 3.3, and 1.7 ton/ha); c) control plot without any inoculum incorporation. The evaluated parameter were counting of the number of emerged plants and weighing of dry matter accumulation in the aerial and roots tissues of the reminiscent plants. In both trials, there was a tendency to reduce the number of reminiscent plants and of the dry matter accumulation at aerial parts, as the amount of inoculum was increased. There were not important differences between the inoculum constituted by whole or chopped seeds.

O efeito do tratamento crônico (gavagem) do extrato bruto liofilizado (EBPC) das sementes da Paullinia cupana, guaraná, e seus constituintes semi-purificados EPA e EPB, sobre o comportamento cognitivo foi estudado em ratos submetidos ao teste do labirinto aquático de Morris. EBPC (30.0 mg/kg) e EPA (2.0 mg/kg), mostraram menor latência para encontrar a plataforma submersa quando comparados ao grupo controle (salina+ tween 80 a 0.2%), em ratos normais ou tratados com escopolamina, o que sugere efeito benéfico sobre a cognição. Estes extratos não alteraram a atividade locomotora no teste do campo aberto. A cafeína, reduziu o tempo de latência para encontrar a plataforma submersa no teste do labirinto aquático de Morris em tratados com escopolamina. Além disso, aumentou o número de cruzamentos no teste do campo aberto, mostrando efeito estimulante. Ratos tratados com EPB não produziram alteração significativa nos testes utilizados. Os animais tratados cronicamente com EBPC, EPA ou EPB tiveram a mesma evolução ponderal e sobrevida o que sugere baixa toxicidade para os extratos.

The effect of crude lyophilized extract (EBPC) and the semi-purified constituents (EPA and EPB) of Paullinia cupana (guaraná) seeds long-term administered in rats by gavage at different doses was studied on cognitive behavior in rats. EBPC (30.0 mg/kg) and EPA (2.0 mg/kg), but not EPB (2.0 or 4.0 mg/kg) showed a smaller escape latency to find the emerged platform in Morris water maze test (MWMT), showing nootropic-like effect in normal rats, and in scopolamine induced amnesia rats compared to their controls (saline + 0.2% Tween 80) group. These extracts had no significant effect in open field test (OFT). Caffeine did alter escape latency in MWMT only in scopolamine induced amnesia rats and increased the crossings number in OFT, showing significant stimulant effect. Chronic treatment showed the same increase in body weight and average lifespan indicating a low toxicity for the extracts.

A atividade antiulcerogênica do extrato hidroetanólico de caule de Kielmeyera coriacea Mart. (Guttiferae) foi avaliada em ratos por meio de três modelos experimentais: etanol-ácido, indometacina e estresse agudo. O índice ulcerativo observado após o tratamento com o extrato de Kielmeyera coriacea foi comparado com a droga de referência, cimetidina. O tratamento com o extrato mostrou significante atividade anti-ulcerogênica nos modelos de indução de lesões de mucosa gástrica produzidas por etanol-ácido e indometacina, mas não contra úlcera induzida pelo modelo de estresse agudo. Etanol-ácido e agentes antiinflamatórios, como a indometacina, são compostos que produzem úlcera de mucosa gástrica. Os resultados deste estudo sugerem uma atividade protetora de mucosa gástrica para o extrato de Kielmeyera coriacea

The antiulcer activity of a hydro-ethanolic extract prepared from the stems of Kielmeyera coriacea Mart. (Guttiferae) was evaluated in rats employing the ethanol-acid, acute stress and Indomethacin models to induce experimental gastric ulcers. Treatment with K coriacea hydro-ethanolic extract provided significant antiulcer protection in the ethanol-acid and Indomethacin models, but not in the acute stress model. These results suggested that the K coriacea hydro-ethanolic extract increased resistance to necrotizing agents, providing a direct, protective effect on the gastric mucosa.
