Abstract This article aims to analyze the leading computer vision techniques and strategies used in designed systems to automatically identify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, addressing general aspects of mycorrhizae and their taxonomic classification. Mycorrhizae are symbiotic associations between plants' roots and certain fungi groups. They are characterized by great benefits to the surrounding soil, the plants, and the derived productive processes. The work was developed with a specialized information collection methodology based on specific search criteria, selecting relevant publications, in a time range between 2014 and 2021, in the Scopus, Scielo, Dialnet, and Google Scholar databases. The study's results revealed that fuzzy mathematical morphology is an essential technique in the segmentation of fungal spores. In general, the studies developed are based on a binary identification of the spores, where the Hough transform, and artificial neural networks are the combined techniques that report better results. This study concludes that it is possible to assist the identification process of mycorrhizal fungi from artificial vision techniques. It contributes by indicating a lack of information regarding non-binary classification systems, which are important and must be considered to support advanced classification processes, according to the number of families and genera reported in the literature.

Resumen El objetivo de este artículo fue analizar las principales técnicas y estrategias de visión artificial utilizadas en sistemas diseñados para la identificación automática de hongos formadores de micorrizas arbusculares, abordando aspectos generales de las micorrizas y su clasificación taxonómica. Las micorrizas son asociaciones simbióticas entre las raíces de las plantas y determinados grupos de hongos, se caracterizan por generar grandes beneficios al suelo circundante, a las plantas y a los procesos productivos derivados. El trabajo se desarrolló con una metodología de recolección de información especializada a partir de criterios de búsqueda específicos, seleccionando publicaciones relevantes, en un rango de tiempo entre el año 2014 y 2021, en las bases de datos de Scopus, Scielo, Dialnet y Google Académico. Los resultados del estudio revelaron que la morfología matemática difusa es una técnica importante en la segmentación de las esporas de hongos y, en general, los estudios desarrollados se basan en una identificación binaria de las esporas, donde la transformada de Hough y las redes neuronales artificiales son las técnicas combinadas que reportan mejores resultados. El presente estudio permitió concluir que es posible auxiliar el proceso de identificación de hongos formadores de micorrizas arbusculares a partir de técnicas de visión artificial, y contribuye indicando un vacío de información respecto de sistemas de clasificación no binaria, los cuales son importantes y se deben tener en cuenta para apoyar procesos de clasificación avanzados, de acuerdo con la cantidad de familias y géneros reportados en la literatura.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é mostrar a importância da felicidade urbana como direito à saúde social e quais são os indicadores internacionais que os países devem cumprir com respeito a mesma. A questão de pesquisa foi a seguinte: Como fazer cidades mais felizes? Para responder essa pergunta, a partir do método dedutivo, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o conceito felicidade urbana eos indicadores mais importantes relacionados com saúde, educação egoverno que foram propostos desde 1979 por diferentes países e centro de pesquisa. De maneira semelhante, se fez uma contagem dos países contemporâneos com os melhores indicadores de felicidade urbana y as razões por trás deles. Finalmente, serão mostrados alguns casos de países que são exemplos com os melhores índices de felicidade intersubjetiva. Resumen El propósito de este artículo es mostrar la importancia de la felicidad urbana como derecho a la salud social y cuáles son los indicadores internacionales que los países deben cumplir respecto a ella. La pregunta de investigación fue la siguiente: ¿Cómo lograr ciudades más felices? Para responder esta pregunta, desde el método deductivo, se llevó a cabo una búsqueda bibliográfica sobre el concepto de felicidad urbana y los indicadores más relevantes relacionados con salud, educación y gobernanza que han sido propuestos desde 1979 por diferentes países y centros de investigación. De manera similar, se hizo un conteo de los países contemporáneos con los mejores indicadores de felicidad urbana y las razones detrás de ello. Finalmente, se mostrarán algunos casos ejemplares de países con mejores índices de felicidad intersubjetivos. Abstract The purpose of the article is to show the importance of urban happiness as a right of social welfare and what are the indicators of international measures that countries must comply with. The research question is: How to achieve happier cities? To answer the question, from the inductive method, a bibliographic search will be made of the concept of urban happiness and of the most relevant health, education and governance indicators proposed since 1979 by the different countries and research centers. Similarly, a contemporary count of the countries with the best indicators of urban happiness and their reasons will be made. Finally, some exemplifying cases of countries with better inter-subjective happiness indexes will be given. The article concludes with the importance of developing countries for achieving more social economies, capable of integrating growth in production (Economic growth) with general welfare and the enjoyment of public values. Resumen Introducción: la urolitiasis es una enfermedad frecuente de la cual en Colombia se han publicado estudios previos; sin embargo, estos no comparan las características sociodemográficas y clínicas de los pacientes con las comorbilidades y los factores predisponentes de litiasis como hiperuricemia, hipertensión arterial (HTA), obesidad y enfermedad renal crónica (ERC). Objetivos: caracterizar clínica y metabólicamente los pacientes con diagnóstico de urolitiasis atendidos en una clínica de cuarto nivel de Barranquilla, Colombia, en el año 2019. Materiales y métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal en 49 pacientes con base en el estudio de fichas clínicas Resultados: el 53,1 % de los participantes eran hombres y las medianas de edad y de índice de masa corporal (IMC) fueron 58 años y 26,4 kg/m2, respectivamente. Algunas de las comorbilidades identificadas fueron, en orden de frecuencia, HTA (69,4 %), ERC (36,7 %), infección de vías urinarias recurrente (24,5 %), hiperuricemia (44,9 %), hipercalcemia (16,3 %) e hiperfosfatemia (12,2 %). Los tipos de cristal encontrados fueron oxalato (20,4 %), urato (12,2 %), mezcla de oxalato y urato (4,1 %), fosfato (4,1 %), hipercalciuria e hiperoxaluria (38,8 %), hiperuricosuria e hipocalciuria (18,4 %) y hipofosfaturia o hipofosfaturia (4,1 %). Asimismo, la hiperuricemia se asoció a edad (p=0,028), ERC (p=0,026), medicamentos antihipertensivos (p=0,022), posición del cálculo en cáliz renal (p=0,012), hiperparatiroidismo (p=0,007), depuración de creatinina (p=0,046) e hipercalciuria (p=0,049). El IMC ≥30 se asoció con ERC estadio 5 (p=0,025), diálisis (p=0,025) e hiperoxaluria (p=0,021). Conclusiones: en la población analizada se evidenció una frecuencia significativa de ERC, hiperuricemia, obesidad e HTA.

Abstract Introduction: Urolithiasis is a disease with high frequency and our environment is no exception. Previous studies have been published in Colombia, however, these do not compare the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients with comorbidities and predisposing factors for lithiasis such as they are hyperuricemia, high blood pressure, obesity, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Objectives: To characterize clinically and metabolically the patients diagnosed with urolithiasis in a fourth-level clinic in the city of Barranquilla in 2019. Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. In 49 patients, based on the study of clinical records Results: The median age was 58 years, the male sex in 53.1 %. The median body mass index was 26.4 Kg / m2. High blood pressure was identified in 69.4 %, chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 36.7 %, recurrent urinary tract infection in 24.5 %. Hyperuricemia in 44.9 %, hypercalcemia in 16.3 % and hyperphosphatemia in 12.2 %. The crystal types were oxalate in 20.4 %, urate in 12.2 %, mixture of the previous ones in 4.1 % and in the same proportion phosphate. Hypercalciuria and hyperoxaluria in 38.8 %, hyperuricosuria and hypocalciuria in 18.4 %, while hyperphosphaturia or hypophosphaturia in 4.1 %. Hyperuricemia was associated with age (p = 0.028), CKD (p = 0.026), antihypertensive drugs (p = 0.022), the position of the stone in the renal calyx (p = 0.012), hyperparathyroidism (p = 0.007), creatinine clearance (p = 0.046) and hypercalciuria (p = 0.049). BMI ≥30 was associated with stage 5 CKD (p = 0.025), dialysis (p = 0.025), and hyperoxaluria (p = 0.021). Conclusions: A significant frequency of CKD, hyperuricemia, obesity and hypertension was evidenced in patients with urolithiasis.

ABSTRACT We analyzed the local variation of fish assemblages in four coastal lagoon systems surrounded by mangroves, draining into the Gulf of Tehuantepec (Pacific versant of Mexico), and determined the spatial patterns of alpha, beta, and gamma diversity. Fish were sampled between 2004 and 2016 at 63 sites using cast nets. The collected data were supplemented with information obtained from published works for three other coastal lagoons for the regional analysis. Local richness was high (89 species in a total of 19,017 specimens in four systems). Locally, dissolved oxygen, depth, and distance to mangrove were variables that significantly affected richness and abundance of fish in one or more systems. The Chantuto-Panzacola system showed the highest richness, significantly different from the other systems, although the trophic groups were similar. Regionally, two, Istmo and Soconusco complexes were identified, whose turnover rate (0.36) and gamma diversity (176) increased from north to south. Fish species richness and abundance increased with growing mangrove area, both locally and regionally, making this a highly explanatory variable. The Gulf of Tehuantepec is an environmentally heterogeneous region, with ecological patterns defined according to the spatiotemporal scale, which should be considered in the delineation of ecoregions and coastal management planning.

RESUMO: O câncer ainda é uma das principais causas de morte no mundo. Muitos quimioterápicos de plantas foram testados em câncer, como vinblastina e paclitaxel. O norte do Chile, região de Arica e Parinacota, caracteriza-se por sua biodiversidade vegetal devido às suas condições geográficas e climatológicas únicas, oferecendo uma fonte inexplorada e única de compostos de origem natural. A presente pesquisa considerou uma triagem de 26 ervas das terras altas usando um modelo de inibição de crescimento in vitro em um painel de seis linhas celulares de câncer de diferentes tecidos. Cinco, dos 26 extratos etanólicos estudados, mostram forte atividade pelo menos em uma linhagem celular quando testados a 10 µg mL-1. Apresentamos um grupo de plantas dignas de serem avaliadas como extratos promissórios. Este trabalho faz parte da tentativa sistemática de encontrar novos candidatos para serem usados em terapias contra o câncer.

ABSTRACT: Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Many chemotherapeutics from plants have been tested in cancer, such as vinblastine and paclitaxel. The north of Chile, Arica & Parinacota region, is characterized by its vegetal biodiversity due to its unique geographical and climatological conditions, offering an unexplored and unique source of naturally-derived compounds. The present research has considered a screening of 26 highland herbs using an in vitro growth inhibition model in a panel of six cancer cell lines from different tissues. 5 of the 26 studied ethanolic extracts shows strong activity at least in one cell line when tested at 10 µg mL-1. We present a group of plants worthy to be evaluated as promissory extracts. This work is part of the systematic attempt to find new candidates to be used in cancer therapies.

RESUMEN Antecedentes: La región centro-oriental de Cuba ha sido escenario de diversos estudios para encontrar soluciones al déficit de disponibilidad y el manejo inadecuado de la base forrajera, por ser factores determinantes en los resultados productivos y la sostenibilidad de los sistemas. Objetivo: Considerar cambios en las estrategias de manejo de la base forrajera a partir de un modelo de producción lechera en la región centro-oriental de Cuba. Desarrollo: Se resumen algunos argumentos importantes basados en estudios previos acerca de las ventajas que reporta el cambio en la perspectiva de manejo de las áreas de pastoreo, de manera que su mayor producción de biomasa se utilice más eficientemente, haciendo coincidir este comportamiento con los picos de producción de leche, particularmente en los meses de abril-agosto. Se tuvieron en cuenta diferentes escenarios y formas de producción, donde todos ellos coinciden en que funcionan sobre la base de mínimos recursos y su mayor perspectiva es la de mejorar el aprovechamiento y uso racional de sus recursos naturales y locales. Conclusiones: Teniendo en cuenta tales posibilidades reales de los sistemas ganaderos en el territorio centro-oriental de Cuba, puede resultar que, al lograr implementar una estrategia estacional, se incremente la eficiencia bio-económica de la producción de leche, con limitada dependencia de insumos externos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: In Mayabeque Province, the Lichtenstein technique is used to repair inguinal hernia, with a recurrence below 3%. Objective: To characterize patients with a diagnosis of inguinal hernia operated on by the Lichtenstein hernioplasty technique. Methods: A longitudinal and retrospective study was carried out in patients operated on for inguinal hernia at Leopoldito Martínez Hospital, from January-2013 to December-2017. The universe consisted of 218, with a systematic probabilistic sample of 128 cases. The data were obtained from medical records. Quantitative variables were summarized by arithmetic mean and standard deviation, while qualitative variables were summarized by percentages. The comparison of proportions was carried out through the chi-square and Duncan's test, considering a level of significance of P<0.05. Results: There was a predominance of the male sex predominated (94.54%), the age between 41 and 60 years (42.96%), and the hernia type III A (60.15%), with mean evolution of 42.3 month. Surgical time was 1-2 hours (65.62%), with a mean of one hour and 26 minutes. There was predominance of acute pain complications (13.28%), surgical-site infection (3.12%) and hospital stay below 24 hours (79.68%), with a recurrence of 2.34%. Conclusions: The Lichtenstein technique is effective for inguinal hernia repair in the Mayabeque Province. Mean surgical time is estimated to be a maximum of one hour and 26 minutes, while hospital stay, at the expense of complications, was 24-72 hours. The percentage of recurrences is high and should improve by refining the technique.

RESUMEN Introducción: En la provincia de Mayabeque se emplea la técnica de Lichtenstein en la reparación de la hernia inguinal, con una recidiva inferior al 3 %. Objetivo: Caracterizar a los pacientes con diagnóstico de hernia inguinal operados por la técnica de hernioplastia de Lichtenstein. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio longitudinal y retrospectivo en pacientes operados de hernia inguinal en el Hospital “Leopoldito Martínez” de enero-2013 a diciembre-2017. El universo estuvo constituido por 218 y una muestra probabilística sistemática de 128 casos. Los datos se obtuvieron de las historias clínicas. Las variables cuantitativas se resumieron mediante media aritmética y desviación estándar y las variables cualitativas mediante los por cientos. La comparación de proporciones se realizó a través del chi-cuadrado y la dócima de Duncan, considerándose un nivel de significación para p < 0,05. Resultados: Predominó el sexo masculino (94,54 %), la edad entre 41 - 60 años (42,96 %), tipo de hernia III A (60,15 %) y evolución media de la misma 42,3 meses; el tiempo quirúrgico fue de 1-2 horas (65,62 %) con media de 1 h, 26 minutos. Prevalecieron las complicaciones dolor agudo (13,28 %) e infección del sitio quirúrgico (3,12 %) y estadía hospitalaria < 24 horas (79,68 %) con una recidiva de 2,34 %. Conclusiones: La técnica de Lichtenstein es efectiva en la reparación de la hernia inguinal en la provincia de Mayabeque. La media del tiempo quirúrgico se estima en 1 hora y 26 minutos como máximo y la estadía hospitalaria a expensas de las complicaciones de 24-72 horas. El por ciento de recidivas es alto y debe mejorar depurando la técnica.

Resumen Introducción: establecer estimadores del riesgo cardiovasculares (RCV) que permitan tener igual concordancia dentro del subconjunto de la población es importante para diseñar terapias que briden ventajas a cada subpoblación. Objetivo: comparar las escalas Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR y ACC/AHA en una corte de mujeres con diabetes. Materiales y métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en donde se compararon las escalas Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR y ACC/AHA para identificar los niveles de riesgo cardiovascular en mujeres con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Los datos se recopilaron entre 2014 y 2016 en pacientes del Centro Endocrinológico del Caribe ubicado en Barranquilla, Colombia. Se consideraron variables sociodemográficas, antropométricas y clínicas. Resultados: el 100% de la muestra (n=107) eran mujeres con una edad media de 58,5±13,646 años. Según la escala Framingham el 72,9% (n=78) se clasificó como de riesgo bajo; el 21,5% (23), intermedio, y el 5,6% (n=6), alto. Con la escala SCORE/REGICOR el 57,0% (n=61) estuvo en riesgo bajo; el 42,1% (n=45), en moderado, y el 0,9% (n=1), en alto. Finalmente, mediante la escala ACC/ AHA el 35,5% (n=38) se clasificó en riesgo bajo y el 64,5% (n=69), en elevado. Conclusiones: en el presente estudio se observó una baja concordancia al comparar las escalas de riesgo cardíaco analizadas (Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR y ACC/AHA) en mujeres colombianas con diabetes mellitus tipo dos y se observó además que la edad y el colesterol total fueron los valores que más afectaron la variación entre las escalas comparadas.

Abstract Introduction: Establishing cardiovascular risk (CVR) estimators that allow for equal concordance within the subset of the population is important for establishing therapy that provide advantages for each subpopulation. In this article we focus on buying CVR scale in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective: Compare between the Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR and ACC/AHA scales in a court of women with diabetes. Methods: The data collected were between 2014 and 2016 from the population of the Caribbean Endocrinological Center, Barranquilla, Colombia, considering the sociodemographic, anthropometric, and clinical variables. In this study, it was possible to establish comparisons between the Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR and ACC/AHA scales to identify cardiovascular risk levels in women with T2DM. Results: 100% of the sample (n = 107) were women with a mean age of 58.5 ± 13,646 years, 78 (72.9%) were classified as low risk, 23 (21.5%) intermediate and 6 ( 5.6%) high with the scale The SCORE/REGICOR scale showed 61 (57.0%) at low risk, 45 (42.1%) moderate and 1 (0.9%) high; while ACC / AHA 38 (35.5%) is classified as low risk and 69 (64.5%) as high. Conclusions: In the present study, a low concordance was observed when comparing the cardiac risk scales (Framingham, SCORE/REGICOR and ACC/AHA) in Colombian women with type two diabetes and it was also observed that age and total cholesterol were the values that more affected variation between the comparative cardiovascular risk scale.

Resumen En el cultivo de papa, la oportunidad y el número de aporques tienen relación directa con el rendimiento, la calidad comercial y los costos de producción. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el efecto del número de aporques en las características biométricas y agronómicas (altura de planta, número de tallos, número de estolones, rendimiento total, rendimiento comercial) y el índice de rentabilidad de tres cultivares nativos de papa: Huayro, Peruanita y Tumbay. Los factores estudiados fueron los tres cultivares de papa y dos momentos de aporque; el diseño fue de bloques completos al azar con arreglo factorial 3×2 en cuatro repeticiones. La interacción cultivar por número de aporques fue altamente significativa para las variables rendimiento total y rendimiento comercial. En los tres cultivares, al realizar uno o dos aporques se constató el efecto favorable en mayores rendimientos total y comercial. El cultivar Huayro obtuvo los mayores rendimientos total (kg/ha) y comercial (kg/ha) cuando fue aporcado en dos oportunidades (p < 0,001). Con el aporque cero se observaron pérdidas en el rendimiento total de 86,02%, 3,67% y 47,89% en los cultivares Huayro, Peruanita y Tumbay, respectivamente. En el análisis económico, el cultivar Tumbay, con un solo aporque, obtuvo el mayor índice de rentabilidad; un segundo aporque en los cultivares Huayro y Tumbay no se justifica económicamente.

Abstract In potato cropping, the opportunity and the number of hillings are directly related to yield, commercial quality, and production costs. The research was carried out with the aim of establishing the effect of the number of hillings on biometric and agronomic characteristics (plant height, number of stems, number of stolons, total yield, and commercial yield) and the profitability index of native potato cultivars. The factors under study were three native potato cultivars: Huayro, Peruanita, and Tumbay, and two hilling moments. The study was conducted under a completely randomized block design with a 3x2 factorial arrangement, and four repetitions. The cultivar interaction by the number of hillings carried out was highly significant for total yield and commercial yield. In the three cultivars, when carrying out one or two hillings, the favorable effect was found in higher total and commercial yields. Concerning the Huayro cultivar, the highest total (kg/ha) and commercial yields (kg/ha) were found when it was hilled on two occasions (p < 0.001). With zero hilling, total yield losses of 86.02 %, 3.67 %, and 47.89 % were observed in the cultivars Huayro, Peruanita, and Tumbay, respectively. In the economic analysis, the Tumbay cultivar recorded the highest rate of return with a single hilling. For the cultivars Huayro and Tumbay, a second hilling was economically unjustified.

Abstract Nine plants from the Puna ecoregion of northern Chile, traditionally used in ethnomedicine, were studied. The total content of phenolic compounds and their antioxidant capacity (ABTS, FRAP, and ORAC) were determined both in the dry material and in the infusions. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the antioxidant capacity for some of these plants and their infusions. Furthermore, these results show the diversity and complexity of the plants of the Chilean highlands with high potential to be used as a source of natural antioxidants in the reformulation and development of healthier foods.

Resumen Se estudiaron nueve plantas de la ecorregión de puna del norte de Chile, utilizadas tradicionalmente en etnomedicina. El contenido total de compuestos fenólicos y su capacidad antioxidante (ABTS, FRAP y ORAC) se determinaron tanto en el material seco como en las infusiones. Según nuestro conocimiento, este es el primer informe sobre capacidad antioxidante para algunas de estas plantas y sus infusiones. Además, estos resultados muestran la diversidad y complejidad de las plantas del altiplano chileno con alto po tencial para ser utilizadas como fuente de antioxidantes naturales en la reformulación y el desarrollo de alimentos más saludables.

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to examine the context of child labor carried out by children from migrant agricultural laborers in Mexico. The study applied a methodology based on the identification of current migrant agricultural laborer according to the main crops cultivated in each region, thus children were located within migrant agricultural families. 558 children were surveyed by conducting individual in-depth interviews with working children and applying a multi-category questionnaire aligned with the central human capabilities of Nussbann and considering the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ) model and the Youth Self-Report (YSR). Results showed critical elements than compromise child welfare, it was noted a significant vulnerability of the rights of the children and an adverse environment which lead children to an improper growth limiting their human capacities for a personal development.

Resumen: El propósito de esta investigación fue examinar el contexto del trabajo infantil llevado a cabo por hijos de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes en México. El estudio encuestó a 558 niños, niñas y adolescentes (NNA) pertenecientes a familias agrícolas migrantes. El instrumento de recopilación de información fue basado en el Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ) y el Youth Self-Report (YSR), alineando las dimensiones de análisis a las capacidades humanas centrales propuestas por Nussbann. Los resultados mostraron elementos críticos que afectan el bienestar infantil, y la vulnerabilidad en diferentes capacidades humanas que condicionan el desarrollo humano de los NNA en zonas rurales.

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to isolate and identify lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from the digestive tract of Apis mellifera bees. Thirty-five bacterial isolates were obtained and 13 of them were considered LAB due to their morphological and biochemical characteristics. A fragment of the 16S rDNA gene was amplified by PCR and using universal primers from the bacterial DNA. The obtained PCR products were purified and sequenced. The sequences obtained were compared with others deposited in the GenBank database. The strains were also identified by proteomic characterization using MALDI TOF MS. The results showed the presence of four genera of LAB, with Lactobacillus spp. (38.4 %) and Fructobacillus spp. (30.8 %) predominating. Lactobacillus kunkeei (31 %) and Fructobacillus fructosus (31 %) were identified in the analysis by species. This study confirms the predominance of the Lactobacillus genus within the lactic acid bacteria of the digestive tract of bees. This research is the first to report isolation and molecular identification of LAB obtained from the digestive tract of honey bees in Cuba.

RESUMEN Los objetivos del estudio fueron aislar e identificar bacterias ácido lácticas (BAL) a partir del tracto digestivo de abejas Apis mellifera. Se obtuvieron 35 aislamientos, de ellos 13 se consideraron como BAL por sus características morfológicas y bioquímicas. Se amplificó mediante PCR y usando cebadores universales un fragmento del gen ADNr 16S a partir del ADN bacteriano. Los productos de PCR obtenidos se purificaron y secuenciaron. Las secuencias obtenidas se compararon con otras depositadas en la base de datos GenBank. Las cepas también se identificaron mediante caracterización proteómica utilizando MALDI TOF MS. Los resultados mostraron la presencia de cuatro géneros de BAL; predominaron Lactobacillus spp. (38,4 %) y Fructobacillus spp. (30,8 %) y, en el análisis por especies, se identificaron Lactobacillus kunkeei (31 %) y Fructobacillus fructosus (31 %). El presente estudio confirma el predominio del género Lactobacillus dentro de las bacterias ácido láctico del tracto digestivo de las abejas. Esta investigación es la primera en reportar aislamiento e identificación molecular de BAL obtenidas desde el tracto digestivo de abejas melíferas en Cuba.

ABSTRACT Fish assemblages change significantly with physical and chemical characteristics of water; however, their response to the variability of geomorphic habitats has been rarely evaluated in lagoon-estuarine in one of these systems of the Mexican Pacific. Spatio-temporal variation of fish assemblage structure was assessed for three habitats: lagoon, estuarine, channel and inlet. The hypothesis was that sheltered areas support comparatively higher richness and abundance of fish species, with more small-sized specimens than the most exposed areas. We found that the ichthyofauna differed significantly among habitats. Several species were smaller in the lagoon compared with the other habitats, suggesting a use of the lagoon as a nursery ground. Moreover, dominant species for the lagoon were rarely found or absent in the inlet, whereas others were found only present or with higher abundance in the inlet. Although seasonal differences in richness and composition were detected, the evidence of fish-habitat associations for many species was noticeable regardless of seasonality, probably due to a high percentage of resident species during the annual cycle. The lagoon supports a greater abundance and species richness, due to a more sheltered and structured habitat, evidencing habitat-driven segregation in fish assemblages, and an aspect that should be incorporated for management of coastal ecosystems.

ABSTRACT In Cuba, a biofertilizer has been developed based on a Pseudomonas fluorescens strain phosphate solubilizer. Given the need to standardize its industrial scale up, this work aimed to optimize the culture medium and the fermentation conditions. First, tests in the shaker were carried out and then in a fermenter. In each case an experimental validation was performed. For the optimization of the culture medium, a central composite design was used to adjust response surfaces. A 23 factorial design with equidistant star points and six repetitions in the center of the plan considered zero was applied. A total of 20 experimental runs were performed, with three repetitions each and the regression equation was determined. As a response variable, cell growth was determined by optical density λ = 600 nm (OD600). To optimize microbial growth based on agitation speed and air flow, a 12-liter total volume fermenter with 8.5 liters of effective volume with a factorial design 22 was used, taking OD600 as the response variable. It was found that for the industrial production of P. fluorescens and the formulation of the bioproduct, an optimized semisynthetic culture medium can be used, without molasses. Together with the employed of optimal agitation speed and air flow, the bacterial biomass content can be increased. The new conditions allowed reducing the fermentation time to 12 hours compared to the 20 to 22 hours used in the production scheme. In addition, 29%, 50% and 40%, respectively, of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus sources were reduced.

RESUMEN En Cuba se ha desarrollado un biofertilizante a base de una cepa de Pseudomonas fluorescens, solubilizadora de fosfatos. Ante la necesidad de estandarizar su escalado industrial este trabajo tuvo por objetivo optimizar el medio de cultivo y las condiciones de fermentación. Primero se realizaron ensayos a escala de zaranda y posteriormente en un fermentador. En cada caso se realizó una validación experimental. Para la optimización del medio de cultivo se empleó un diseño compuesto central para ajustar superficies de respuesta. Se aplicó un diseño factorial 23 con puntos estrellas equidistantes y seis repeticiones en el centro del plan considerado como cero. Se realizaron un total de 20 corridas experimentales, con tres repeticiones cada una y se determinó la ecuación de regresión. Como variable de respuesta se determinó el crecimiento celular por densidad óptica λ =600 nm (DO600). Para optimizar del crecimiento microbiano en función de la velocidad de agitación y el flujo de aire se empleó un fermentador de 12 litros de volumen total con 8.5 litros de volumen efectivo con un diseño factorial 22, tomando como variable de respuesta la DO600. Se comprobó que para la producción industrial de P. fluorescens y la formulación del bioproducto puede emplearse un medio de cultivo semisintético optimizado, sin melaza, que unido al empleo de una velocidad de agitación y flujo de aire óptimos permiten incrementar el contenido de biomasa bacteriana. Las nuevas condiciones permitieron reducir el tiempo de fermentación a 12 horas con respecto a las 20 a 22 horas que se empleaban en el esquema de producción. Además, se redujo el 29%, 50% y 40%, respectivamente de las fuentes de carbono, nitrógeno y fósforo.

RESUMO: Baccharis alnifolia Meyen & Walp. é uma erva altiplana nativa e medicinal, chilena que é usada como cataplasma e também consumida como uma infusão para aliviar a inflamação. Este estudo avaliou o efeito antioxidante e citotóxico do extrato etanólico de B. alnifolia e sua infusão. Verificou-se que o extrato etanólico contém 4,42 mg GAE / g de peso seco e a infusão contém 35,86 mg GAE / L de polifenóis totais. Além disso, determinou a capacidade antioxidante utilizando o poder antioxidante redutor de Fração (FRAP), Capacidade de Absorção Radical de Oxigênio (ORAC) e capacidade antioxidante equivalente de Trolox (TEAC). Além disso, sete metabólitos, entre ácidos fenólicos e flavonóides, foram identificados pela primeira vez em ambos os extratos da planta medicinal Baccharis alnifolia. Os cromatogramas UHPLC-DAD revelaram a presença majoritária de ácido ferúlico e luteolina, ambos podendo ser responsáveis pela atividade antioxidante e citotóxica. Além disso, realizamos uma triagem preliminar da citotoxicidade em diferentes linhagens de células tumorais, descobrindo que esses extratos têm potencial citotóxico nas células renais.

ABSTRACT: Baccharis alnifolia Meyen & Walp. is a native and medicinal, Chilean Altiplano herb that is used as a poultice and also consumed as an infusion to relieve inflammation. This study evaluated the antioxidant and cytotoxic effect of the ethanolic extract of B. alnifolia and their infusion. It was reported that the ethanol extract contains 4.42 mg GAE/g of dry weight and the infusion contains 35.86 mg GAE/L of total polyphenols. Also, it determined the antioxidant capacity using Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay. Moreover, seven metabolites including between phenolic acids and flavonoids were identified for the first time in both extracts of the medicinal plant Baccharis alnifolia. The UHPLC-DAD chromatograms revealed the majority presence of ferulic acid and luteolin, both could be responsible for the antioxidant and cytotoxic activity. Furthermore, we realized a preliminary screening of cytotoxicity in different tumor cell lines, finding that these extracts have cytotoxic potential on kidney cells.
