ABSTRACT. The objective was to evaluate the quality of Japanese quail eggs stored at room temperature (26.8ºC) and under refrigeration (10.9ºC), for different storage periods (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25 and 30 days). A total of 196 quail eggs were assigned to different treatments in a factorial arrangement of 2 (temperatures) x 7 (storage periods), with 3 replications and 4 eggs per experimental unit. Data were subjected to regression analysis of parameters as a function of storage time at room temperature and under refrigeration. There was a reduction in egg weight, albumen weight and height, yolk height and egg yolk index with increasing storage period as a function of temperatures (p < 0.05). Eggs at room temperature showed a reduction in albumen index, while eggs under refrigeration showed a quadratic behavior (p < 0.05). Storage days promoted a quadratic response in albumen and yolk pH (p < 0.05) of eggs at room temperature. Eggs at room temperature floated from the 15th day of storage. When stored at room temperature, quail eggs show a sharp decrease in internal quality during storage for up to 30 days. Refrigerated storage is recommended.

RESUMO Os programas de reflorestamento da Amazônia enfatizam o uso de espécies nativas da região. No entanto, o reflorestamento com espécies nativas requer a produção de mudas de alta qualidade. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o desenvolvimento e a qualidade de mudas de paricá (Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum), espécie nativa da Amazônia com alto potencial para atividades de reflorestamento. Realizamos um experimento em casa de vegetação no qual mudas foram submetidas a tratamentos com presença variável de macro e micronutrientes no substrato, e avaliamos o efeito sobre os atributos funcionais (altura da planta, diâmetro do caule, área foliar específica, matéria seca da parte aérea e raiz) e resposta fisiológica (concentração de clorofila a, b e carotenóides). Nossos resultados mostraram que a omissão de nutrientes afeta significativamente o crescimento do paricá. Considerando as variáveis biométricas e fisiológicas avaliadas, as maiores exigências nutricionais das plântulas foram para N, P, K, micronutrientes, Mg e S, enquanto a qualidade das plântulas foi mantida na ausência de Ca. De modo geral, esta espécie apresenta uso eficiente dos nutrientes disponíveis e potencial de crescimento em solos com baixas concentrações de bases. Portanto, para a produção de mudas de paricá de alta qualidade, devem ser adicionados macro e micronutrientes e o calcário é essencial, mas o bom desempenho das mudas sob omissão de Ca sugere que este elemento não precisa ser adicionado ao solo.

ABSTRACT Amazonian reforestation programs emphasize the use of species native to the region. However, reforestation using native species requires the production of high-quality seedlings. The present study aimed to evaluate the development and quality of seedlings of paricá (Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum), a species native to the Amazon with high potential for reforestation activities. We carried out a greenhouse experiment in which seedlings were subjected to treatments with varying presence of major and micronutrients in the substrate, and evaluated the effect on functional attributes (plant height, stem diameter, specific leaf area, shoot and root dry matter) and physiological response (chlorophyll a, b and carotenoid concentrations). Our results showed that nutrient omission significantly affects paricá seedling growth. Considering the assessed biometric and physiological variables, the highest nutritional requirements of seedlings were for N, P, K, micronutrients, Mg and S, while seedling quality was maintained in the absence of Ca. Overall, this species shows efficient use of available nutrients and potential for growth in soils with low concentrations of bases. Therefore, for the production of high-quality paricá seedlings, major and micronutrients should be added and lime is essential, but the good seedling performance under Ca omission suggested that this element does not need to be added to the soil.

RESUMO: Objetivo: Identificar a prevalência e os fatores associados ao diabetes mellitus em comunidades rurais. Métodos: Estudo transversal desenvolvido em 115 comunidades rurais distribuídas em 45 municípios do Estado de Goiás, sendo: 13 ribeirinhas, 51 quilombolas e 63 assentamentos de reforma agrária. Realizou-se amostragem probabilística, e os participantes foram selecionados de forma aleatória. A variável desfecho foi diabetes mellitus autorreferido, enquanto as de exposição foram sociodemográficas, estilo de vida, condições de saúde e acesso a serviços de saúde. Utilizou-se regressão múltipla para verificar a associação entre variáveis de estudo. Resultados: Entre os 2.537 participantes, a prevalência geral de diabetes foi de 9,8%, sendo 13,5% nos ribeirinhos, 10,0% nos quilombolas e 9,3% nos assentados. Os fatores associados ao diabetes foram a autopercepção negativa de saúde, ser ex-fumante, hipertensão arterial, hipercolesterolemia e residir em comunidade ribeirinha. Conclusão: Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de fortalecer estratégias para prevenção e controle da diabetes e suas complicações em populações rurais, especialmente entre os ribeirinhos.

ABSTRACT: Objective: To identify the prevalence of and factors associated with diabetes mellitus in rural traditional communities. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out in 115 rural communities distributed in 45 municipalities in the state of Goiás, including: 13 river communities, 51 quilombolas and 63 agrarian reform settlements. Probabilistic sampling was performed, and participants were selected at random. The outcome variable was self-reported diabetes mellitus, while exposure variables were sociodemographic, lifestyle, health conditions and access to health services. Multiple regression was used to determine the association between study variables. Results: Among the 2,537 participants, the overall prevalence of diabetes was 9.8%, with 13.5% in river dwellers, 10.0% in quilombolas and 9.3% in settlers. Factors associated with diabetes were negative self-perception of health, being a former smoker, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, and living in a river community. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need to strengthen strategies for the prevention and control of diabetes and its complications in rural populations, especially among river dwellers.

Abstract Several phytogeographic regions (Cerrado, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, Gran Chaco, and Chiquitano Dry Forests) converge in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and influence regional biodiversity. Despite a list of birds in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul being published by Nunes et al. (2017), it is necessary to update and critically review avifauna records. In this study, we gathered the results of several records obtained from species lists and online data platforms of the 336 sites in this state over the last decades and grouped them into Main (Primary and Secondary) and Tertiary Lists. The avifauna of Mato Grosso do Sul is composed of 678 species, of which 643 (95%) have records proving their occurrence (Primary List), whereas 34 still lack documentation (Secondary List). The number of related species for Mato Grosso do Sul represents 34% of the Brazilian avifauna. Some species stand out for their unique occurrence in Mato Grosso do Sul, such as Melanerpes cactorum, Celeus lugubris, Phaethornis subochraceus, and Cantorchilus guarayanus, reflecting the influence of different phytogeographic regions of the Chaco and Chiquitano Dry Forests. Migrants represent 20% of the bird community occurring in the state, of which 93 species correspond to migrants from various regions of South America (south and west) and 40 to boreal migrants. Thirty-three species perform nomadic movements across the Pantanal Plain and other regions of the state. Thirty-one species are included in some conservation-threatened categories of global and/or national endangered species lists. Other 30 species are included in the near-threatened category at the global level and 23 at the national level. In addition, species typical of dry forests (in Serra da Bodoquena and Maciço do Urucum) and those from the Atlantic Forest in the south of the state deserve attention due to their restricted distribution and the high anthropogenic pressure on their habitat.

RESUMO Os aneurismas intracranianos são dilatações em segmentos arteriais que irrigam o sistema nervoso central. Acometem 2% da população e as alterações oftalmológicas podem ser as primeiras manifestações do quadro. O objetivo deste relato foi descrever um caso de aneurisma de artéria carótida interna que cursou com restrição da movimentação ocular, alteração do reflexo fotomotor, ptose palpebral, dor facial e cervical. O diagnóstico foi confirmado pela identificação do aneurisma por meio do exame de angiografia cerebral. Foi realizado teste de oclusão por balão, cujo resultado positivo possibilitou a oclusão total da artéria carótida interna por meio de ligadura cirúrgica, procedimento este realizado com sucesso.

ABSTRACT Intracranial aneurysms are dilations in segments of the arteries that irrigate the central nervous system. They affect 2% of the population and the ophthalmologic disorders may be the first evidence in the clinical examination. The aim of the report is to describe a case of an internal carotid artery aneurysm that showed restrictions of ocular movements, change of pupillary light reflex, palpebral ptosis, facial, and cervical pain. This diagnosis was confirmed by the identification of the aneurysm through angiography. A balloon occlusion test was performed, and its positive result made a complete occlusion of the Internal Carotid Artery possible through surgery ligation, procedure that was successful.

Resumo Objetivo: Compreender os hábitos, dificuldades e as estratégias alimentares de crianças e adolescentes com transtorno do espectro autista (TEA). Método: Trata-se de pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa do tipo exploratória e descritiva, realizada com 14 pais cujos filhos frequentam uma escola de educação especial especializada na educação de pessoas com TEA localizada em uma cidade do extremo sul catarinense, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, com uso da análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados: Os dados coletados indicaram três categorias temáticas: hábitos alimentares de crianças e adolescentes com TEA; dificuldades alimentares de crianças e adolescentes com TEA; e estratégias alimentares para crianças e adolescentes com TEA. As crianças e adolescentes autistas possuem um considerável consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados, além de comportamentos relativos à recusa alimentar, disfagia, baixa aceitação de alimentos sólidos, compulsão alimentar e sintomas gastrointestinais. Foi possível identificar também uma lacuna no conhecimento dos cuidadores relacionados aos aspectos sensoriais do transtorno envolvidos nos hábitos alimentares de seus filhos. Conclusão: As crianças e adolescentes com TEA apresentam uma alimentação diversificada, com tendência a hábitos alimentares disfuncionais e significativo comprometimento nas atividades sensoriais que dificultam a obtenção e o estabelecimento de uma alimentação saudável.

Abstract Objective: To understand the habits, difficulties and eating strategies of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Method: This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative research carried out with 14 parents of the Association of Parents and Friends of people with ASD located in a city in the extreme south of Santa Catarina. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interview, using content analysis to treat the information obtained. Results: The data collected indicated three thematic categories, structured respectively: eating habits of children and adolescents with ASD; eating difficulties of children and adolescents with ASD; and eating strategies of children and adolescents with ASD. The study identified that autistic children and adolescents have a considerable consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods, in addition to behaviors related to food refusal, dysphagia, low acceptance of solid foods, binge eating and gastrointestinal symptoms. It was also possible to identify a gap in the knowledge of caregivers related to the sensory aspects of the disorder involved in their children's eating habits. Conclusion: Children and adolescents with ASD have a diversified diet, with a tendency to dysfunctional eating habits, and a significant impairment in sensory activities that make it difficult to obtain and establish a healthy diet.

Objective. Analyze the trend of leprosy indicators in Goiás between 2001 and 2017. Methods. An ecological study of time series was carried out. Leprosy morbidity and operational indicators were calculated from data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System. Prais-Winsten regression was used for trend analysis. Results. There was a trend: decreasing detection rate in the general population (Annual Percentage Change [APC] = -6.8 – 95%CI  -8.2;-5.4) and in children under 15 years old (APC = -7.2 – 95%CI -8.5;-5.9); increasing proportion of disability grade 2 (APC = 3.7 – 95%CI 2.0;5.3) and proportion of physical disability examined (APC = 0.6 – 95%CI 0.3;0.8); the proportion of healing and contacts examined were stable. Conclusion. Detection rates decreased while the proportions of grade 2 physical disability and physical disability examined increased.

Conclusão: As taxas de detecção diminuíram, enquanto as proporções de grau 2 de incapacidade física e de incapacidade física examinada cresceram.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the trend of leprosy indicators in Goiás between 2001 and 2017. Methods: An ecological time series study was conducted. Leprosy morbidity and operational indicators were calculated using Notifiable Health Conditions Information System data. Prais-Winsten regression was used for trend analysis. Results: There was a falling trend in the detection rate in the general population (Annual Percent Change [APC] = -6.8 – 95%CI -8.2;-5.4) and in children under 15 years old (APC = -7.2 – 95%CI -8.5;-5.9); a rising trend in the proportion of grade 2 disability (APC = 3.7 – 95%CI 2.0;5.3) and in the proportion of examined physical disability (APC = 0.6 – 95%CI 0.3;0.8); healing and examined contacts proportions were stable. Conclusion: Detection rates decreased while the proportions of grade 2 physical disability and examined physical disability increased.

Resumen Objetivo: Analizar la tendencia de los indicadores de lepra en Goiás entre 2001 y 2017. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio ecológico de series temporales. La morbilidad y los indicadores operativos se calcularon a partir de los datos del Sistema de información de Agravamientos de Notificación (Sinan). Se utilizó la regresión de Prais-Winsten para el análisis de tendencias. Resultados: Se confirmó una tendencia de disminución de la tasa de detección en la población general (Variación Porcentual Anual [VPA] = -6,8 – IC95% -8,2;-5,4) y en niños menores de 15 años (VPA = -7,2 – IC95% -8,5;-5,9); proporción creciente de incapacidad grado 2 (VPA = 3,7 – IC95% 2,0;5,3) y proporción creciente de incapacidad física examinada (VPA = 0,6 – IC95% 0,3;0,8); las proporciones de cura y contactos examinados fueron estables. Conclusión: Las tasas de detección disminuyeron mientras que aumentaron las proporciones de incapacidad física de grado 2 e incapacidad física examinada.

Abstract Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae) is a Neotropical tree species widely distributed in Brazilian Savannas. This species is very popular in central Brazil mainly by the use of its fruits in the local cuisine, and indeed it is one of the candidates, among Brazilian native plants, for fast track incorporation into cropping systems. Here we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of C. brasiliense and used the data to access its genomic resources using high-throughput sequencing. The chloroplast exhibits a genome length of 165,793 bp and the typical angiosperm quadripartite structure with two copies of an inverted repeat sequence (IRa and IRb) of 34,902 bp each, separating a small single copy (SSC) region of 11,852 bp and a large single copy (LSC) region of 84,137 bp. The annotation analysis identified 136 genes being 87 protein-coding, eight rRNA and 37 tRNA genes. We identified 49 repetitive DNA elements and 85 microsatellites. A bayesian phylogenetic analysis helped to understand previously unresolved relationships in Malpighiales, placing Caryocaraceae as a separated group in the order, with high supported nodes. This study synthetizes valuable information for further studies allowing a better understanding of evolutionary patterns in the group and providing resources for future breeding programs.

Abstract Aims: The current study aimed to compare the anaerobic power output through the Wingate test in different positions, i.e., standing and seated, and identify the relationship between power-output and body mass. Methods: Eleven male competitive cyclists (age: 30.3 ± 4.7 years; body mass: 73.7 ± 7.7 kg; body fat: 11.3 ± 4.2%) were submitted to two sessions of the Wingate test (WT) in different positions, on different days. Results: The peak power (W), average power (W), relative peak power (W·kg-1), relative average power (W·kg-1), average cadence (rpm), and average velocity (km·h-1) presented significant differences in the standing position compared with the seated position (p < 0.05), 1155 ± 130 vs. 1082 ± 182 (W), 875 ± 96 vs. 818 ± 116 (W), 15.9 ± 1 vs. 15.0 ± 2 (W kg-1), 12.1 ± 1 vs. 11.3 ± 1 (W kg-1), 117.5 ± 7 vs. 109.8 ± 10 (rpm), 37.0 ± 2 vs. 34.6 ± 3 (km·h-1), respectively. However, when controlled the body mass, the differences in variables power output ceased to exist (p > 0.05). The fatigue and peak heart rate (bpm) indices did not present significant differences between the tests (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Sprint performance was improved when the WT was performed in a standing position in competitive cyclists. The study also reports the important relationship between body mass and anaerobic production capacity in the WT, emphasizing that it is desirable an increase in lean body mass and a reduction in fat mass, similar in competitions. We suggest that, for anaerobic assessment in cyclists, the standing position should be used during the WT, to determine the maximum power-output capacity.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to compare the selection of plants bred by different pedigree methods using selection among, among and within and only within families. The haploid induction rate of 14 S0:1 and seven S2:3 families, all crossed with the single-cross hybrid GNZ9501, was evaluated. An experimental area of the Department of Biology of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), in Lavras, Minas Gerais, in the growing seasons 2012/2013 and 2014/2015, was used for the experiments. In each growing season, one experiment per was carried out, arranged in a complete randomized design, with one and two replications, respectively. Haploid induction was most effective in the families 2 and 6 in both growing seasons. Selection among and within families resulted in higher genetic gains for haploid induction. The results indicated a high genetic variability for haploid induction rate in plants within families.

Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar os achados de imagem da tomografia computadorizada por emissão de pósitrons com 18F-fluordesoxiglicose (18F-FDG PET/TC) e tomografia computadorizada (TC) em pacientes portadores de tumores primários adicionais, correlacionando com o método realizado para elucidação do diagnóstico e relatórios anatomopatológicos. Materiais e Métodos: Avaliamos, retrospectivamente, prontuários, relatórios anatomopatológicos e exames de 11 pacientes que realizaram 18F-FDG PET/TC e/ou TC. Foram incluídos pacientes que apresentaram pelo menos duas neoplasias, com histopatologia distinta confirmada nos diferentes locais. Foram excluídos pacientes sem confirmação diagnóstica e pacientes com suspeita de que a lesão adicional fosse uma metástase da primeira. Resultados: Lesões sugestivas de novas malignidades primárias foram encontradas em 11 pacientes, apresentando em 10 deles uma única nova lesão e em 1 caso dois novos tumores. Locais comprovados de lesão adicional foram pulmão, rim, próstata, jejuno e mama. Biópsia percutânea única ou múltipla foi realizada em 10 pacientes e 1 paciente foi submetido a procedimento cirúrgico para fins diagnósticos e terapêuticos. Os tumores eram metacrônicos em 6 casos e sincrônicos em 5 pacientes. Conclusão: A TC e a 18F-FDG PET/TC associadas a biópsias percutâneas múltiplas podem auxiliar no diagnóstico de lesões adicionais, otimizando o tratamento e acompanhamento desses pacientes.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the imaging findings of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) and computed tomography (CT) in patients with additional primary tumors, correlating the results with those of the method used in order to elucidate the diagnosis and of the pathology reports. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records, pathology reports and images of 11 patients who underwent CT, 18F-FDG PET/CT, or both. We included patients with at least two tumors, with confirmed distinct histopathological profiles, at different sites. Patients in whom there was no diagnostic confirmation were excluded, as were those in whom the additional lesion was suspected of being a metastasis of the first. Results: New primary malignancies were identified in 11 patients, one new tumor being found in 10 and two new tumors being found in 1. The confirmed sites of the additional malignancies were the lung, kidney, prostate, jejunum, and breast. Single or multiple percutaneous biopsies were performed in 10 patients, and 1 patient underwent a surgical procedure for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The tumors were metachronous in 6 cases and synchronous in 5. Conclusion: CT and 18F-FDG PET-CT combined with multiple percutaneous biopsy could facilitate the diagnosis of additional lesions, thus optimizing the treatment and follow-up of the affected patients.
