RESUMO Introdução: o tratamento de fraturas expostas isoladas da diáfise da tíbia (FEIDT) apresenta desafios por frequentemente associar severa lesão óssea com condições ruins de tecido mole, fatores relevantes em países de média e baixa renda, especialmente devido a atrasos na implementação da fixação definitiva e falta de treinamento adequado no manejo de tecidos moles. Consequentemente, FEIDTs representam importante fonte de incapacitação na América Latina. Este estudo objetivou apresentar uma visão geral das FEIDTs em sete hospitais do cone sul da América Latina. O objetivo secundário foi avaliar o seu impacto na qualidade de vida baseado na taxa de retorno ao trabalho (TRT). Métodos: foram incluídos no estudo pacientes com FEIDT tratados em sete hospitais de Brasil e Argentina entre novembro de 2017 e março de 2020. Resultados clínicos e radiográficos foram analisados num período de 120 dias. Avaliação final comparou TRT com o questionário SF-12, consolidação óssea e condições de marcha. Resultados: setenta e dois pacientes foram tratados, 57 seguidos por 120 dias e 48 completaram o questionário SF-12. Após 120 dias, 70,6% havia retornado ao trabalho, 61,4% tinha fratura consolidada. Idade, antibioticoterapia, tipo de tratamento definitivo e infecção influenciaram significativamente na TRT. A condição de marcha apresentou forte correlação com TRT e o componente físico do SF-12. Conclusão: FEIDTs são potencialmente deletérias à qualidade de vida dos pacientes 120 dias após o tratamento inicial. TRT é significativamente maior para pacientes mais jovens, sem história de infecção e que conseguem correr na avaliação da condição de marcha..

ABSTRACT Introduction: open tibial fractures are challenging due to the frequent severe bone injury associated with poor soft tissue conditions. This is relevant in low- and middle-income countries, mainly related to delayed definitive fixation and lack of adequate training in soft tissue coverage procedures. Due to these factors, open tibial fracture is an important source of disability for Latin American countries. Herein we sought to provide an epidemiological overview of isolated open tibial shaft fracture across seven hospitals in southern cone of Latin America. The secondary goal was to assess the impact on quality of life based on return-to-work rate (RWR). Methods: patients with an isolated open tibial shaft fracture treated in seven different hospitals from Brazil and Argentina from November 2017 to March 2020 were included in the study. Clinical and radiographic results were evaluated throughout the 120-day follow-up period. Final evaluation compared RWR with the SF-12 questionnaire, bone healing, and gait status. Results: Seventy-two patients were treated, 57 followed for 120 days and 48 completed the SF-12 questionnaire. After 120 days, 70.6% had returned to work, 61.4% had experienced bone healing. Age, antibiotic therapy, type of definitive treatment, and infection significantly influenced the RWR. Gait status exhibited strong correlations with RWR and SF-12 physical component score. Conclusions: Isolated open tibial shaft fractures are potentially harmful to the patient’s quality of life after 120 days of the initial management. RWR is significantly higher for younger patients, no history of infection, and those who could run in the gait status assessment.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar diversidade florística em diferentes altitudes na região do Araripe em Pernambuco, Brasil. Metodologicamente, a região foi estratificada em três níveis de altitude: inferior (até 600 m), intermediário (maior que 600 e menor que 750 m) e superior (igual ou maior que 750 m). Foram inventariados nove fragmentos florestais, três por estrato altitudinal. Em cada fragmento, distribuíram-se 20 unidades amostrais retangulares, de 250 m² cada, totalizando área amostral de 4,5 ha. Nas áreas amostrais foram quantificados, coletados e identificados todos os indivíduos lenhosos com nível de inclusão de circunferências a altura do peito (CAP) maior ou igual a 0,10 m (CAP a 1,30 m ≥ 0,10 m). Analisou-se, riqueza e similaridade florística entre fragmentos e níveis de altitudes. Foram amostrados 6.987 indivíduos, distribuídos em 35 famílias botânica, 82 gêneros e 153 espécies. A região apresenta grande riqueza florística, com variação entre e dentro dos três níveis altitudinais, com tendência de aumento na diversidade com a elevação da altitude. A maioria das espécies apresentaram pouca plasticidade fenotípica, com ocorrência e abundância restrita ao fragmento ou altitude. Em pequenas distâncias geográficas foram diagnosticadas relevantes variações fitofisionômicas, o que corrobora a importância da estratificação de altitudes e replicação de fragmentos na amostragem. Pelo nível de degradação antropogênica e a intensificação das atividades florestais da região, faz-se necessário e urgente a criação de políticas públicas voltadas para práticas sustentáveis no uso da floresta e seu processo de conservação. Para tanto, o negligenciamento a esta problemática, coloca em risco de extinção uma grande representação da diversidade vegetacional do nordeste brasileiro.

Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the floristic diversity at different altitudes in the Araripe region of Pernambuco state, Brazil. For method purposes, the region was stratified into three levels of altitude: inferior (until 600 m), intermediate (>600 and <750) and superior (≥750 m). Nine forest fragments were inventoried, three by altitudinal stratum. Twenty rectangular sampling units of 250 m² each were distributed for each fragment, totaling a sampling area of 4.5 ha. All woody individual’s quantification, collection, and identification were performed with respect to the Circumference at Breast Height (CBH) greater than or equal to 0.10 m (CBH at 1.30m ≥ 0.10m). The richness and the floristic similarity among the fragments and altitude levels were analyzed. A total of 6,987 individuals were sampled and distributed in 35 botanical families, 82 genera and 153 species. The region presented great floristic richness, with variation among and within the three altitudinal levels and the diversity demonstrated to increase with the altitude. Most species exhibited little phenotypic plasticity, with occurrence and abundance restricted to the fragment or the altitude level. At short geographical distances, relevant phyto-physiognomic variations were diagnosed, which corroborates with the importance of altitude stratification and fragment replication in the sampling procedures. Due to the level of anthropogenic degradation and the intensification of forest activities in the region, it is, therefore, necessary and urgent to create public policies aiming sustainable practices in forest use and its conservation process. To this end, the negligence of this problem puts at risk of extinction a large representation of the Brazilian northeastern vegetation diversity.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar a regeneração natural de duas áreas de vegetação de caatinga com diferentes históricos de uso no agreste pernambucano. O estudo foi realizado em duas áreas: Área I de mata nativa, sem evidências históricas de eliminação total da vegetação para fins de cultivos agrícolas; e Área II, anteriormente ocupada com cultivo da palma forrageira, abandonada há cerca de 30 anos e que se encontrava em estágio de sucessão secundária. Para coleta dos dados da vegetação, foram utilizadas 24 parcelas de dimensões de 5 x 5 m, em 12 parcelas em cada área, sendo considerados indivíduos em regeneração natural as plantas que possuíram circunferência a 1,30 m do solo (CAP) < 6,0 cm e altura >1,0 m. No levantamento estrutural dos indivíduos regenerantes das duas áreas foram identificados 581 plantas pertencentes a 14 famílias botânicas, 26 gêneros e 30 espécies. As densidades totais obtidas neste estudo foram de 11.200 ind.ha-1 e 8.116 ind.ha-1, nas Áreas I e II, respectivamente. As espécies que obtiveram maiores densidades de regeneração natural na Área I foram: Croton argyrophyllus, Senegalia bahiensis, Croton blanchetianus e Coutareahexandra; e na Área II: Senegalia bahiensis, Poincianella pyramidalis, Zanthoxyllum sp, Croton blanchetianus e Croton argyrophyllus.

The objective of this work was to compare a natural regeneration of two areas with Caatinga vegetation with different histories of use in the Agreste of Pernambuco. These studies were carried out in two areas: Area l, native forest, with no historical evidences of deforestation for agriculture purposes; and Area ll, which was previously occupied with the cultivation of forage cactus and was abandoned about 30 years ago at the stage of secondary succession. For data collection, it was used a total of 24 plots of 5 x 5 m dimensions, 12 plots in each area, and considering the plants with circumference at breast height (CBH) of 1.30 m from ground (CAP) < 6.0 cm and height >1.0 m as individuals in natural regeneration. It was identified in the structure survey of regenerating individuals structural survey in both areas, 581 plants of 14 botanical families, 26 genus and 30 species. The total densities obtained in this study were 11,200 and 8,116 individuals.ha-1 in Area l and ll, respectively. The species with the greatest densities of natural regeneration in Area l were the following: Croton argyrophyllus, Senegalia bahiensis, Croton blanchetianus and Coutarea hexandra and in the Area ll: Senegalia bahiensis, Poincianella pyramidalis, Zanthoxyllum sp, Croton blanchetianus and Croton argyrophyllus.
