Quando nos deparamos com problemas de mecânica, muitas vezes somos guiados por um senso de familiaridade e de analogias com situações prévias. No entanto, esta nem sempre parece ser uma boa alternativa. Ao contrário, há situações em que a simples analogia com situações parecidas nos conduz à resposta errada e a demonstração experimental se faz necessária para o entendimento do problema. Apresentamos neste trabalho uma destas situações. em que a falta de conhecimento sobre o comportamento de queda de um sistema massa-mola pode ser o motivo da dificuldade de alunos de nível médio e superior acerca da situação proposta.

In solving classical mechanics problems many times we are guided by a feeling of familiarity and analogies. Nevertheless, not always this a good strategy. This is the case of the problem of two masses in free fall in a uniform field which we discuss in this paper.

Action films and sci-fi novels should be common resources in classrooms since they serve as examples and references involving physical situations. This is due to the abstract nature of many physical concepts, and the lack of references in students’ daily lives makes them more difficult to be visualized or imagined. In this work we bring a discussion of how we can resort to films and literary works in order to elucidate the concepts regarding tidal forces. To this effect, we have used the action film Total Recall (2012) to present the squashing effect and the classic of juvenile literature From Earth to the Moon (1865) to discuss the effect of spaghettification in the context of Newtonian mechanics.

Neste trabalho resgatamos e modernizamos o método gráfico de Pierre Lucie (1917 – 1985) para o estudo de formação de imagens a partir de lentes delgadas, no contexto de óptica geométrica. Associamos a este método o uso de Tecnologia de Informação e Comunicação (TIC) por meio do simulador PhET - Simulações Interativas, para visualização da formação de imagens e obtenção de pontos conjugados, bem como o uso do software GeoGebra para analisar os dados e chegar à equação de Gauss. Tendo por base a Teoria de Aprendizagem Significativa de Ausubel, uma sequência didática para ensino de formação de imagens por lentes delgadas foi elaborada e aplicada em turmas do ensino médio. Os resultados da aplicação são também apresentados neste trabalho e indicam que o uso de TIC associada ao método gráfico de Pierre Lucie pode ser potencialmente significativo.

In this work we recover and update a graphical method introduced by Prof. Pierre Lucie (1917 – 1985) in the study of image formation by thin lens. The method is associated by us with the modern technologies of information and communication through a PheT simulation that allows the visualization of image formation and the acquisition of the conjugated points. We also make use of the dynamical geometry software GeoGebra to analyze the data and obtain Gauss’ equation for conjugated points. A class-oriented procedure for the teaching of image formation by thin lens was prepared and applied at the high-school level. Results indicate that this updated graphical method may be potentially significant.

O conceito moderno de buraco negro como uma região do espaço-tempo da qual a luz não pode escapar tem suas origens no século 18 com John Michell e Pierre Simon Laplace. Neste trabalho apresentamos as abordagens destes dois cientistas buscando dar ao professor do ensino médio subsídios para a compreensão das idéias precursoras do buraco negro moderno da teoria de Einstein da gravitação.

The modern concept of a black hole as a region of spacetime from which light cannot escape owns its origins to John Michell (1724-1793) and Pierre Simon Laplace (1749-1827). In the present work we review the approaches of these distinguished scientists in an attempt to provide the high school teacher with tools to understand those early ideas before the advent of the modern black hole of Einstein's gravitational theory.

Um modo simples de medir a aceleração da gravidade g no laboratório de física do ensino médio e de física básica no ensino universitário com um microcontrolador da família Arduíno é proposto. Resultados experimentais com um erro relativo de 0 , 1 % são apresentados e comparados com o valor local de g medido pelo Observatório Nacional, Rio de Janeiro.

A simple way of measuring the terrestrial acceleration g in the basic lab that makes use of the Arduino microcontroller is proposed. Experimental results with a relative error of 0 , 1 % were obtained and compared with the local value of g as measured by the Brazilian National Observatory at Rio de Janeiro.

We evaluate the quantum electromagnetic field correlators associated with the electromagnetic vacuum distorted by the presence of two plane parallel conducting walls and in the presence of a conducting wall parallel to a perfectly magnetically permeable one. Regularization is performed through the generalized zeta funtion technique. Results are applied to rederive the atractive and repulsive Casimir effect through Maxwell stress tensor. Surface divergences are shown to cancel out when stresses on both sides of the material surface are taken into account.

Making use of the quantum correlators associated with the Maxwell field vacuum distorted by the presence of plane parallel material surfaces we rederive the Casimir-Polder interaction in the presence of plane parallel conducting walls. For a configuration consisting of a conducting wall and a magnetically permeable one new results for the Casimir-Polder interaction potential are obtained.

We analyze gauge theories based on abelian p-forms in real compact hyperbolic manifolds. The explicit thermodynamic functions associated with skew-symmetric tensor fields are obtained via zeta-function regularization and the trace tensor kernel formula. Thermodynamic quantities in the high-temperature expansions are calculated and the entropy/energy ratios are established.

We discuss a method for obtaining vector constants of motion for time-dependent central fields.
