ABSTRACT Objectives: To evaluate the factors associated with mortality in mechanically ventilated patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome due to COVID-19. Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter cohort study that included 425 mechanically ventilated adult patients with COVID-19 admitted to 4 intensive care units. Clinical data comprising the SOFA score, laboratory data and mechanical characteristics of the respiratory system were collected in a standardized way immediately after the start of invasive mechanical ventilation. The risk factors for death were analyzed using Cox regression to estimate the risk ratios and their respective 95%CIs. Results: Body mass index (RR 1.17; 95%CI 1.11 - 1.20; p < 0.001), SOFA score (RR 1.39; 95%CI 1.31 - 1.49; p < 0.001) and driving pressure (RR 1.24; 95%CI 1.21 - 1.29; p < 0.001) were considered independent factors associated with mortality in mechanically ventilated patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome due to COVID-19. Respiratory system compliance (RR 0.92; 95%CI 0.90 - 0.93; p < 0.001) was associated with lower mortality. The comparative analysis of the survival curves indicated that patients with respiratory system compliance (< 30mL/cmH2O), a higher SOFA score (> 5 points) and higher driving pressure (> 14cmH2O) were more significantly associated with the outcome of death at 28 days and 60 days. Conclusion: Patients with a body mass index > 32kg/m2, respiratory system compliance < 30mL/cmH2O, driving pressure > 14cmH2O and SOFA score > 5.8 immediately after the initiation of invasive ventilatory support had worse outcomes, and independent risk factors were associated with higher mortality in this population.

RESUMO Objetivos: Avaliar os fatores associados à mortalidade em pacientes ventilados mecanicamente com síndrome o desconforto respiratório agudo por evolução da COVID-19. Métodos: Estudo de coorte retrospectiva, multicêntrica, que incluiu 425 pacientes adultos com COVID-19, ventilados mecanicamente, internados em 4 unidades de terapia intensiva. Foram coletados dados clínicos que compõem o escore SOFA, dados laboratoriais e características mecânicas do sistema respiratório, de forma padronizada, imediatamente após o início da ventilação mecânica invasiva. Os fatores de risco para óbito foram analisados por meio da regressão de Cox, para estimar as razões de risco, e seus respectivos IC95%. Resultados: Índice de massa corporal (RR de 1,17; IC95% 1,11 - 1,20; p < 0,001), escore SOFA (RR de 1,39; IC95% 1,31 - 1,49; p < 0,001) e driving pressure (RR de 1,24; IC95% 1,21 - 1,29; p < 0,001) foram considerados fatores independentes associados à mortalidade em pacientes ventilados mecanicamente com síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo por COVID-19. Já a complacência do sistema respiratório (RR de 0,92; IC95% 0,90 - 0,93; p < 0,001) foi associada à menor mortalidade. A análise comparativa das curvas de sobrevida demonstra que pacientes com complacência do sistema respiratório (< 30mL/cmH2O), maior SOFA escore (> 5 pontos) e maior driving pressure (> 14cmH2O) apresentaram maior associação ao desfecho morte em 28 dias e 60 dias. Conclusão: Pacientes com índice de massa corporal > 32kg/m2, complacência do sistema respiratório < 30mL/cmH2O, driving pressure > 14cmH2O e SOFA escore > 5,8, imediatamente após o início da assistência ventilatória invasiva, apresentam piores desfechos no segmento, sendo fatores de risco independentes associados à maior mortalidade nessa população.

Abstract Faced with a scenario of increasing urban occupation and soil waterproofing, green areas began to act against numerous impacts arising from the production of urban space. Unifying green areas to form an interconnected network of green spaces offers cities numerous benefits in ecosystem services. Considering that planning and managing green areas as a green infrastructure is a great challenge for planners and responsible initiatives, the present work intends to contribute by building a matrix of planning analysis in green infrastructure, applied to the analysis of municipal green areas policies. Based on literature on planning and green infrastructure, a table of elements of green areas was elaborated, as well as an analytical matrix of green infrastructure planning to be applied in the reading of municipal plans, programs and projects. ABSTRACT: Ozone is a colorless gas with a characteristic odor present in nature in the form of trivalent oxygen. In 2015, the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO/Brazil) approved the use of ozone therapy and in 2018 the Ministry of Health (MS/Brazil) approved the application of Ozone Therapy as a Complementary Integrative Practice in the Unified Health System. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify the applicability of ozone therapy in dental practice. This is an integrative literature review whose search was performed in the Medline/Pubmed, LILACS, SciElo, and Google Scholar databases. Studies published in the last 5 years in English, Portuguese or Spanish were eligible. After the search, 312 titles were found and after exclusion of duplicates and analysis of abstracts and full text, 13 articles were included in this review. The literature reports the application of ozone therapy in several areas in the treatment of acute and chronic diseases. As a mechanism of action, ozone has a direct antimicrobial effect, immunoregulation, antioxidant defenses, analgesic, and vasodilator effects. In dentistry, its applicability is mainly in preventive dentistry and as a complement in surgical procedur es, endodontic, and periodontal treatments.

RESUMEN: El ozono es un gas incoloro de olor característico presente en la naturaleza en forma de oxígeno trivalente. En 2015, el Consejo Federal de Odontología (CFO) aprobó el uso de la ozonoterapia y en 2018 el Ministerio de Salud aprobó la aplicación de la Ozonoterapia como Práctica Integrativa Complementaria en el Sistema Único de Salud. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue verificar la aplicabilidad de la ozonoterapia en la práctica odontológica. Esta es una revisión integrativa de la literatura cuya búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos Medline/Pubmed, LILACS, SciElo y Google Scholar. Fueron elegibles los estudios publicados en los últimos 5 años en inglés, portugués o español. Después de la búsqueda, se encontraron 312 títulos y después de la exclusión de duplicados y análisis de resúmenes y texto completo, se incluyeron 13 artículos en esta revisión. La literatura reporta la aplicación de la ozonoterapia en varias áreas en el tratamiento de enfermedades agudas y crónicas. Como mecanismo de acción, el ozono tiene un efecto antimicrobiano directo, de inmunorregulación, defensas antioxidantes, efectos analgésicos y vasodilatadores. En odontología su aplicabilidad es principalmente en odontología preventiva y como complemento en procedimientos quirúrgicos, tratamientos endodónticos y periodontales.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To compare the death counts from three sources of information on mortality available in Brazil in 2010, the Mortality Information System (SIM - Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade ), Civil Registration Statistic System (RC - Sistema de Estatísticas de Resgistro Civil ), and the 2010 Demographic Census at various geographical levels, and to confirm the association between municipal socioeconomic characteristics and the source which showed the highest death count. METHODS This is a descriptive and comparative study of raw data on deaths in the SIM, RC and 2010 Census databases, the latter held in Brazilian states and municipalities between August 2009 and July 2010. The percentage of municipalities was confirmed by the database showing the highest death count. The association between the source of the highest death count and socioeconomic indicators - the Índice de Privação Brasileiro (IBP – Brazilian Deprivation Index) and Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano Municipal (IHDM – Municipal Human Development Index) - was performed by bivariate choropleth and Moran Local Index of Spatial Association (LISA) cluster maps. RESULTS Confirmed that the SIM is the database with the highest number of deaths counted for all Brazilian macroregions, except the North, in which the highest coverage was from the 2010 Census. Based on the indicators proposed, in general, the Census showed a higher coverage of deaths than the SIM and the RC in the most deprived (highest IBP values) and less developed municipalities (lowest IDHM values) in the country. CONCLUSION The results highlight regional inequalities in how the databases chosen for this study cover death records, and the importance of maintaining the issue of mortality on the basic census questionnaire.

O objetivo dessa revisão foi discutir os desenhos de estudo disponíveis para avaliação de efetividade das vacinas, enfatizando os estudos quase-experimentais, que buscam mimetizar os estudos aleatorizados ao introduzir um componente exógeno para atribuição ao tratamento, bem como suas vantagens, limitações e aplicabilidade no contexto dos dados brasileiros. O emprego de métodos quase-experimentais, incluindo as séries temporais interrompidas, o método de diferença em diferenças, escore de propensão, variáveis instrumentais e regressão descontínua, são relevantes pela possibilidade de gerar estimativas mais acuradas da efetividade de vacinas para COVID-19 em cenários como o brasileiro, que se caracteriza pelo uso de várias vacinas, com respectivos número e intervalos entre doses, aplicadas em diferentes faixas etárias e em diferentes momentos da pandemia.

Abstract The evaluation of vaccine effectiveness is conducted with real-world data. They are essential to monitor the performance of vaccination programmes over time, and in the context of the emergence of new variants. Until now, the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines has been assessed based on classic methods, such as cohort and test-negative case-control studies, which may often not allow for adequate control of inherent biases in the assignment of vaccination campaigns. The aim of this review was to discuss the study designs available to evaluate vaccine effectiveness, highlighting quasi-experimental studies, which seek to mimic randomized trials, by introducing an exogenous component to allocate to treatment, in addition to the advantages, limitations, and applicability in the context of Brazilian data. The use of quasi-experimental approaches, such as interrupted time series, difference-in-differences, propensity scores, instrumental variables, and regression discontinuity design, are relevant due to the possibility of providing more accurate estimates of COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness. This is especially important in scenarios such as the Brazilian, which characterized by the use of various vaccines, with the respective numbers and intervals between doses, applied to different age groups, and introduced at different times during the pandemic.

Resumo O tema corrimento vaginal é um dos capítulos que compõem o Protocolo Clínico e Diretrizes Terapêuticas para Atenção Integral às Pessoas com Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis, publicado pelo Ministério da Saúde do Brasil em 2020. Tal documento foi elaborado com base em evidências científicas e validado em discussões com especialistas. Neste artigo, são apresentados aspectos epidemiológicos e clínicos relacionados às situações de corrimento vaginal, bem como orientações aos gestores e profissionais de saúde na triagem, diagnóstico e tratamento desses agravos, que constituem uma das principais queixas entre mulheres que procuram serviços de saúde e que podem ser causados por fatores infecciosos ou não infecciosos. Além disso, são apresentadas informações sobre estratégias para as ações de vigilância, prevenção e controle, a fim de promover o conhecimento do problema e a oferta de assistência de qualidade e tratamento efetivo.

Abstract The topic of vaginal discharge is one of the chapters of the Clinical Protocol and Therapeutic Guidelines for Comprehensive Care for People with Sexually Transmitted Infections, published by the Brazilian Ministry of Health in 2020. The chapter has been developed based on scientific evidence and validated in discussions with specialists. This article presents epidemiological and clinical aspects related to vaginal discharge conditions, as well as guidelines for health service managers and health professionals about screening, diagnosing and treating these conditions, which are one of the main complaints among women seeking health services, and which may be caused by infectious or non-infectious factors. In addition, information is presented on strategies for surveillance, prevention and control actions, in order to promote knowledge of the problem and provision of quality care and effective treatment.

Resumo Este trabalho apresenta uma leitura geossistêmica do Parque Nacional da Serra do Gandarela. Esta unidade de conservação está inserida no contexto do Quadrilátero Ferrífero, em Minas Gerais, onde afloram unidades litoestratigráficas dos supergrupos Rio das Velhas e Minas, de idade pré-cambriana. Para realizar esta leitura foi elaborado um perfil geoecológico. Este método consiste na representação cartográfica de transectos sobre a área de interesse, o que favorece a realização de leituras horizontais ao longo de cada elemento representado e, também, leituras verticais, onde podem ser interpretadas correlações entre os diversos elementos presentes. Os compartimentos dos domínios morfoestruturais elaborados para o Projeto APA Sul da Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte foram utilizados como unidades de análise para interpretação deste perfil geoecológico. O perfil geoecológico construído permitiu uma compreensão mais holística da área de estudo, o que poderá contribuir para a gestão desta unidade de conservação.

Abstract This paper presents a geosystemic study of the Serra do Gandarela National Park. This conservation unit is inserted in the context of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, in Minas Gerais, where outcrops of Precambrian lithostratigraphic units of the Rio das Velhas and Minas Supergroups can be found. Thus, a geoecological profile was elaborated using a methodology of cartographic representation of a transect on the area of interest. This favours the elaboration of horizontal readings along with each represented element, as well as vertical readings, where correlations can be interpreted between the various elements present. The compartments of the morphostructural domains elaborated for the Belo Horizonte Southern Metropolitan Region Environmental Protection Area Project (Projeto APA Sul da Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte) were used as units of analysis for interpretation of the geoecological profile. The constructed geoecological profile enabled a more holistic understanding of the study area, which may contribute to the management of this conservation unit.

Resumo O ambiente cavernícola possui condições atmosféricas muito peculiares que influenciam diretamente a existência e manutenção do conjunto de elementos bióticos e abióticos, socioeconômicos e histórico-culturais representados pelas cavernas ou a elas associados. Nas cavernas onde são desenvolvidas atividades turísticas, a presença humana pode afetar o delicado equilíbrio destas condições. Esta pesquisa foi desenvolvida para caracterizar o microclima cavernícola de sete cavernas que integram o circuito turístico do Parque Nacional Cavernas do Peruaçu, localizado na região Norte do Estado de Minas Gerais, região sudeste do Brasil. Dados de temperatura e umidade relativa do ar foram coletados por 41 medidores automatizados que acumularam pouco mais de 110.300 registros cada um. A pesquisa se destaca por ser uma das únicas de longa duração (2017 à 2019) desenvolvida no país. A análise destas informações permitiu não apenas caracterizar o microclima das cavernas, mas também observar a relação destes atributos com a morfologia interna e com a posição que as cavidades se encontram em relação ao relevo cárstico da região. A metodologia desenvolvida por esta pesquisa poderá subsidiar o Programa de Monitoramento das Condições Ambientais das Cavernas a ser implementado pela gestão do Parque Nacional e a identificação de ambientes mais sensíveis no interior das cavernas permitirá o reordenamento da visitação a estes atrativos.

Abstract The cave environment has very peculiar atmospheric conditions that directly influence the existence and maintenance of biotic and abiotic, socioeconomic, and historical-cultural elements represented by or associated with caves. In caves where tourist activities occur, the human presence may affect the delicate balance of these conditions. This study was developed to characterize the cave microclimates of seven caves that are part of the tourist itinerary in the Parque Nacional Cavernas do Peruaçu, located in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, Southeast Brazil. Temperature and relative humidity data were collected through 41 automated meters that each accumulated more than 110,300 readings. This research stands out for being one of the only long-term studies (2017 to 2019) developed in the country. The information analysis enabled not only characterization of the cave microclimate, but also observation of the relationship of these attributes with the internal morphology and the position of the caves in relation to the karstic relief of the region. The methodology developed in this study could support the Programa de Monitoramento das Condições Ambientais das Cavernas (Cave Environmental Conditions Surveillance Programme) to be implemented by the administration of the National Park, and identification of more sensitive environments in the interior of the caves will enable reordering of the visitation of these attractions.

Abstract The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been prioritized in relation to other illnesses considered critical, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases/stroke, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. The management of patients with these diseases involves dental care to reduce systemic complications caused by odontogenic infections, and/or to treat oral manifestations of systemic comorbidities. In this regard, the dental care of these individuals must be guaranteed during the pandemic. Although a high risk of exposure to and catching of COVID-19 is expected to befall dental professionals, biosafety guidelines reduce the likelihood of infection. Thus, the current scenario poses challenges, and offers decision-making approaches and tools that facilitate the management of individuals with oral manifestations of chronic and/or critical diseases, using hospital-based services. This article presents an overview for hospital service providers who are at the forefront of COVID-19 care, including a secure protocol, and clinical guidelines based on the experience of the Hospital das Clínicas in Belo Horizonte, a public referral service, supported by the Brazilian National Health System.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho é aplicar o modelo beta como forma alternativa ao Método de Valoração, a fim de estimar a Disposição a Pagar (Willingness to Pay - WTP, na sigla em inglês) do bem ambiental de modo que o Tribunal de Contas do Estado de Pernambuco (TCE/PE) possa fiscalizar o Estaleiro Atlântico Sul (EAS) como uma externalidade ambiental negativa, discutido neste trabalho a partir de uma perspectiva contábil. A metodologia é exploratória, e o modelo de regressão beta foi utilizado na valoração contingente para estimar o bem ambiental. Os resultados permitiram estimar o valor do manguezal de Ipojuca em US$ 134.079.793,50 e o valor do dano ambiental causado pelo estaleiro ao bem público foi avaliada em US$ 61.378.155,37. Este último valor é objeto de interesse para o órgão fiscalizador. No entanto, o valor estimado final do manguezal de Ipojuca fomenta uma discussão sobre as implicações do ponto de vista contábil, como a atribuição de valor monetário a um bem público que não possui valor financeiro, problemas de conceituação e valoração de bens públicos para patrimônio governamental. Conclui-se que o modelo de regressão beta para estimar a WTP para valoração contingente servirá como contribuição para a pesquisa sobre técnicas de mensuração contábil para bens públicos.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to apply the beta model as an alternative to the Valuation Method in order to estimate the environmental asset Willingness to Pay (WTP) so that the Tribunal de Contas do Estado de Pernambuco (TCE/PE) can supervise the Atlântico Sul Shipyard (ASS) as a negative environmental externality, which is discussed here from an accounting perspective. Our methodology is exploratory, and the beta regression model was used in the contingent valuation to estimate the environmental asset. The results allowed estimating the value of the Ipojuca mangrove at US$ 134,079,793.50, and the value of the environmental damage caused by the shipyard to the public asset was valued at US$ 61,378,155.37. This latter value is object of interest to the inspection body. However, the final estimated value of the Ipojuca mangrove prompts a discussion about the implications from an accounting point of view, such as the attribution of monetary value to a public asset that does not have a financial value, problems regarding the conceptualization and valuation of public assets for governmental patrimony. It is concluded that the beta regression model to estimate the WTP for contingent valuation will serve as a contribution to the research on accounting measurement techniques for public assets.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To describe and assess currently used area-based measures of deprivation in Brazil for health research, to the purpose of informing the development of a future small area deprivation index. METHODS We searched five electronic databases and seven websites of Brazilian research institutions and governmental agencies. Inclusion criteria were: studies proposing measures of deprivation for small areas (i.e., finer geography than country-level) in Brazil, published in English, Portuguese or Spanish. After data-extraction, results were tabulated according to the area level the deprivation measure was created for and to the dimensions of deprivation or poverty included in the measures. A narrative synthesis approach was used to summarize the measures available, highlighting their utility for public health research. RESULTS A total of 7,199 records were retrieved, 126 full-text articles were assessed after inclusion criteria and a final list of 30 articles was selected. No small-area deprivation measures that have been applied to the whole of Brazil were found. Existing measures were mainly used to study infectious and parasitic diseases. Few studies used the measures to assess inequalities in mortality and no studies used the deprivation measure to evaluate the impact of social programs. CONCLUSIONS No up-to-date small area-based deprivation measure in Brazil covers the whole country. There is a need to develop such an index for Brazil to measure and monitor inequalities in health and mortality, particularly to assess progress in Brazil against the Sustainable Development Goal targets for different health outcomes, showing progress by socioeconomic groups.
