Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is a depressant of the central nervous system able to promote disinhibition, anterograde amnesia and its use is related to Drug-Facilitated Crimes (DFC). Urine is the biological matrix of choice for toxicological analysis in victims of rape and/or theft in suspected victims of DFC. The aim of this work was the development of a simple and ultra-fast methodology for GHB determination in urine samples using GC-MS. Briefly, 250 µL of urine was pipetted in a vial and fortified with 10 µL (250 µg mL-1) of internal standard GHB-d6. Then, the sample was acidified and submitted to extraction with ethyl acetate. After stirring, the material was taken to a microcentrifuge (1 minute at 5000 rpm). Then the dried residue was derivatized with BSTFA + 1% TCMS for 10 min at 70 ºC before injection. This method was successfully validated according UNODC and EMEA guidelines on bioanalytical method validation with limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.25 and 0.50 µg mL-1, respectively. Considering all steps for GHB determination, this analytical procedure allows the fastest detection of GHB in urine samples when compared to literature allowing the analysis of DFC suspect cases or clinical when endogenous GHB requires to be measured.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Phenomena prediction through prognostic scales is a valuable tool in medical sciences nowadays and it should be included in the decision-making process. Predicting postoperative mediastinitis allows to count on resources for its prevention. Objective: To build a prognostic scale to stratify the risk of suffering from postoperative mediastinitis. Method: A case-control study for the risk factors of postoperative mediastinitis was carried out at the Cardiocentro Ernesto Guevara from Santa Clara, Cuba. After the logistic regression, the model was obtained and from it, the predictors to obtain the Cuban prognostic scale of postoperative mediastinitis PREDICMED were included and weighted, which was validated through several methods. Results: This scale was obtained, counting on six predictors and two risk strata. Its performance was analyzed through adjustment, calibration and determination of its discriminating capacity, showing good results. Internal validation was carried out through the data division method and its capacity was compared in both subsets (development and validation) showing no differences. Its good construct validity was demonstrated, since there were no differences between the predicted and the observed probabilities. Its contents validity was also analyzed by experts. Finally, its criteria validity was determined when compared with another similar scale (Medscore). PREDICMED showed a very good discriminatory capacity (area under the curve 0.962) as well as high values of sensitivity (84.62%) and specificity (92.31%). Conclusions: The Cuban prognostic scale PREDICMED, to stratify the risk of postoperative mediastinitis showed good validation parameters and it was able to stratify the risk in not high and high.

RESUMEN Introducción: La predicción de fenómenos en las ciencias médicas mediante escalas pronósticas constituye una herramienta valiosa en la actualidad y deben incluirse en el proceso de toma de decisiones. Pronosticar la mediastinitis postoperatoria permite disponer de recursos para su prevención. Objetivo: Construir una escala pronóstica para estratificar el riesgo de padecer mediastinitis postoperatoria. Método: Se realizó un estudio de casos y controles para los factores de riesgo de mediastinitis postoperatoria en el Cardiocentro Ernesto Guevara de Santa Clara, Cuba. Luego de la regresión logística se obtuvo el modelo y, a partir de este, se incluyeron y ponderaron los predictores para obtener la escala cubana pronóstica de mediastinitis postoperatoria: PREDICMED, que se validó por diversos métodos. Resultados: Esta escala se obtuvo con seis predictores y dos estratos de riesgo. Se analizó su rendimiento mediante ajuste, calibración y determinación de su poder discriminante, con buenos resultados. Se realizó validación interna por el método de división de datos y se comparó su capacidad en ambos subconjuntos (desarrollo y validación) sin diferencias. Se probó su buena validez de constructo, al no existir diferencias entre las probabilidades predichas y las observadas. También se analizó su validez de contenido mediante expertos. Por último, se determinó su validez de criterio al comparar con otra escala similar (MEDSCORE). PREDICMED presentó muy buena capacidad discriminatoria (área bajo la curva 0,962) y elevados valores de sensibilidad (84,62%) y especificidad (92,31%). Conclusiones: La escala pronóstica cubana PREDICMED, para estratificar el riesgo de mediastinitis postoperatoria, mostró buenos parámetros de validación y logró estratificar el riesgo en no alto y alto.

ABSTRACT Lipoma is one of the benign tumors which may appear in the oral cavity. The present work aims at describing the clinical case of a patient with a lipoma in the oral cavity with involvement of the chin nerve. The patient presented to the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the University General Hospital Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima, Cienfuegos, Cuba with an increase in volume in the left lower vestibular groove, with approximately two months of evolution. On oral examination, an increase in volume of approximately 2 cm in diameter was observed in this region at the level of 33 and 34 cm of hard, elastic consistency, mobile, not painful to palpation, of yellowish coloration, covered with normally colored mucosa. For these reasons it was decided to carry out study and surgical treatment. In the operation the association of the tumor with the inferior chin nerve was confirmed and its conservation was performed, with satisfactory clinical evolution, but with the complication of paresthesia in the left lower hemi lip.

RESUMEN El lipoma es uno de los tumores benignos que puede aparecer en la cavidad bucal. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo describir el caso clínico de una paciente portadora de lipoma en la cavidad oral con compromiso del nervio mentoniano. La paciente acudió al Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital General Universitario Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima, Cienfuegos, y presentaba un aumento de volumen en el surco vestibular inferior izquierdo, con aproximandamente dos meses de evolución. En el examen bucal se observó aumento de volumen de aproximadamente 2 cm de diámetro en el surco vestibular inferior izquierdo a nivel de 33 y 34 cm de consistencia duroelástica, móvil, no doloroso a la palpación, de coloración amarillenta, cubierto de mucosa normocoloreada. Por estas razones se decidió realizar estudio y tratamiento quirúrgico. En la operación se constató la asociación del tumor con el nervio mentoiniano inferior y se realizó conservación del mismo, con evolución clínica satisfactoria, pero con la complicación de parestesia en el hemilabio inferior izquierdo.

Abstract The escamol ant (L. apiculatum Mayr) is important economically for rural communities. In four localities of the Potosino-Zacatecano High Plateau, escamol ant nests were identified and their yield was determined, as well as their relation to the habitat and the population size of their colonies during the 2010 harvest of escamoles. In the nests registered the following variables were evaluated: condition of the nest, quality of the nest, amount of ants (scarce, regular and abundant), type of nesting substrate, and escamol yield. The condition of the nests was compared through Indexes of Relative Abundance, Relative Density. To determine the association between quality of the nest and amount of ants, the Observation Frequencies (OF) were used, and the independent contingencies tables of x 2. To determine the effect of the nesting substrate and the escamol yield (clean weight in g), ANOVA was performed. Seventy-seven (77) nests were found; the condition of the nest that predominated was “disturbed” (79 %), with an average relative density of 4.14 nests km-1. The OF and the x² analysis identified a higher relation (3.47) between scarce amount of ants-bad quality and regular amount of ants-very good quality (2.06) of the nest (p=0.001999). The ANOVA identified a relationship between the nesting substrate and the escamol yield (p=0.0013), with a higher yield in the nopal nesting substrate (36 %).

Resumen La hormiga escamolera (L. apiculatum Mayr) es importante económicamente para las comunidades rurales. En cuatro localidades del Altiplano Potosino-Zacatecano, durante la recolecta de escamoles 2010, se identificaron nidos de la hormiga escamolera, y se determinó su rendimiento, su relación con el hábitat y su tamaño poblacional de sus colonias. En los nidos registrados se evaluaron las variables: condición del nido, calidad del nido, cantidad de hormigas (escasa, regular y abundante), tipo de sustrato de anidación y rendimiento de escamol. La condición de nidos se comparó mediante Índices de Abundancia Relativa, Densidad Relativa. Para determinar la asociación entre la calidad del nido y la cantidad de hormigas se utilizaron las Frecuencias de Observación (FO) y tablas de contingencias independientes de x 2. Para determinar el efecto del sustrato de anidación y el rendimiento del escamol (peso limpio en g) se realizó un ANOVA. Se registraron 77 nidos; la condición del nido que predominó fue la “perturbada” (79%), con una densidad relativa promedio de 4.14 nidos km-1. Las FO y el análisis de x² identificaron una mayor relación (3.47) entre una cantidad de hormigas escasa-mala calidad y una cantidad regular de hormigas-muy buena calidad (2.06) del nido (p=0.001999). El ANOVA identificó una relación entre el sustrato de anidación y el rendimiento de escamol (p=0.0013), con un mayor rendimiento en el sustrato de anidación nopal (36 %).

Abstract Biosurfactants have many advantages over synthetic surfactants but have higher production costs. Identifying microorganisms with high production capacities for these molecules and optimizing their growth conditions can reduce cost. The present work aimed to isolate and identify a fungus with high biosurfactant production capacity, optimize its growth conditions in a low cost culture medium, and characterize the chemical structure of the biosurfactant molecule. The fungal strain UFSM-BAS-01 was isolated from soil contaminated with hydrocarbons and identified as Fusarium fujikuroi. To optimize biosurfactant production, a Plackett–Burman design and a central composite rotational design were used. The variables evaluated were pH, incubation period, temperature, agitation and amount of inoculum in a liquid medium containing glucose. The partial structure of the biosurfactant molecule was identified by nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. F. fujikuroi reduced surface tension from 72 to 20 mN m−1 under the optimized conditions of pH 5.0, 37 °C and 7 days of incubation with 190 rpm agitation. The partial identification of the structure of the biosurfactant demonstrated the presence of an α,β-trehalose. The present study is the first report of the biosynthesis of this compound by F. fujikuroi, suggesting that the biosurfactant produced belongs to the class of trehalolipids.

RESUMEN. Introducción: la movilización global ha generado nuevas necesidades; desde eventos deportivos hasta asuntos criminales, determinar la edad cronológica de los individuos está siendo utilizado por forenses en todo el mundo. El objetivo del presente estudio consistió en analizar los métodos forenses para la estimación de la edad de los individuos, incluyendo las ventajas y limitaciones de dichos métodos. Método: se realizó una búsqueda en el Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Universidad Mayor (SIBUM): Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source; ClinicalKey y Science Direct Freedom Collection, y se seleccionaron artículos publicados entre los años 1980 y 2014. Se hizo además una búsqueda manual, incluyendo revistas específicas y textos de la materia, sin limitación en cuanto al año de publicación. Como criterio de inclusión, se tuvieron en cuenta las investigaciones cuyo objetivo era determinar la edad cronológica de los individuos mediante el análisis forense de tejidos orales. Se excluyeron todos los textos publicados en otro idioma que no fuera inglés. En total, se analizaron 70 publicaciones. Los avances tecnológicos han permitido el estudio de nuevos parámetros; sin embargo, se siguen estudiando los originales identificados por Gustafson en 1950. Conclusiones: la mayoría de los métodos estudiados representan algún grado de invasión. Además, ninguna de estas técnicas es exacta por sí sola, por lo que se recomienda combinar distintas técnicas de medición, abriendo un campo de investigación a técnicas menos invasivas que puedan ser un complemento de las ya existentes. Finalmente, con la información disponible podemos determinar que faltan investigaciones sobre poblaciones de origen africano y asiático, lo que representa un desafío en la actualidad debido a la globalización, las migraciones y la heterogeneidad de las poblaciones actuales.

ABSTRACT. Introduction: global mobilization has created new needs. From sporting events to criminal matters, determining the chronological age of individuals is being used by forensic surgeons worldwide. The objective of the present study was to analyze the forensic methods to estimate the age of individuals, including the advantages and limitations of these methods. Method: a search was conducted in the Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Universidad Mayor (SIBUM): Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, ClinicalKey, and Science Direct Freedom Collection, selecting papers published from 1980 to 2014. A manual search was also conducted, including specific journals and texts in this field, with no limitation as to the year of publication. The inclusion criteria were research projects aimed at determining the chronological age of individuals through forensic analysis of oral tissues. All published texts in a language other than English were excluded. In total, 70 publications were analyzed. Technological advances have paved the way for the study of new parameters; however, the original ones identified by Gustafson in 1950 are still studied. Conclusions: most studied methods are invasive in some degree. In addition, none of these techniques is accurate in its own; therefore, the combination of different measurement techniques is recommended, opening a field of research on techniques that are less invasive and can be a complement to the existing ones. Finally, the available information lead to conclude that research on populations of African and Asian descent is lacking, which is a current challenge because of globalization, migration, and the heterogeneity of current populations.

Foundation: Patients with parpebral lesions caused by basocelular carcinomas, come regularly to the Dermatology, Ophtalmology, and Reconstructive Surgery and Maxillofacial surgery consultations. When the surgical treatment of these lesions is not adequate, there may be sequelae such as palpebral deformations which cause functional and esthetics difficulties. Objective: to describe the results of the Castañón surgical technique modified for repairing the lower eyelid of patients affected by basocelular carcinomas. Methods: a study of case series was used, with patients affected by basocelular carcinomas. They were operated by the technique of total or partial excision of the lower eyelid in triangle form and with immediate reconstruction, in the Hospital Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima. Cienfuegos in the year 2015. Results: from the 15 patients who were operated, 9 were women and sex men, all of white race aged between 60 and 80 years. In all it was used the myocutaneous flap, together with a thin layer of cartilage of the auricular concha. From the 15 patients who were operated only one had a torpid evolution, but in the end the result was satisfactory. Conclusion: the modification to the technique introduced by Castañón has the advantage that it avoids the unnecessary loss of tissue, not having to remove in a rectangular form an extensive lesion. Its effectiveness was evidenced in all the patients.

Fundamento: Los pacientes con lesiones palpebrales causadas por carcinoma basocelular, acuden regularmente a las consultas de Dermatología, Oftalmología, Cirugía Reconstructiva y Cirugía Maxilofacial. Cuando el tratamiento quirúrgico de estas lesiones no es adecuado, pueden aparecer secuelas, tales como, deformaciones palpebrales que ocasionan dificultades funcionales y estéticas.Objetivo: describir los resultados de la técnica quirúrgica de Castañón modificada para la reparación del párpado inferior en pacientes afectados por carcinomas basocelulares.Métodos: se realizó un estudio de serie de casos, con pacientes afectados por carcinomas basocelulares. Estos fueron operados por la técnica de la exéresis total o parcial del párpado inferior en forma de triángulo y con reconstrucción inmediata, en el Hospital Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima, de Cienfuegos, en el año 2015.Resultados: de los 15 pacientes operados, 9 fueron mujeres y 6 hombres, todos de color de la piel blanco, con edades comprendidas entre 60 y 80 años. En todos se utilizó colgajo miocutáneo, acompañado de una fina lámina de cartílago de la concha auricular. De los 15 pacientes operados solo uno tuvo una evolución tórpida, pero al final el resultado fue satisfactorio.Conclusión: la modificación realizada a la técnica introducida por Castañón tiene la ventaja de que evita la pérdida innecesaria de tejido, al no tener que extirpar en forma rectangular una extensa lesión. Su efectividad quedó evidenciada en la totalidad de los pacientes.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) es una especie polífaga, con estatus de plaga cuarentenaria en Uruguay, que ha sido registrada en Europa, Asia, África, Oceanía, y más recientemente, en los países vecinos de América del Sur. Este es el primer registro confirmado de H. armigera en cultivos de soja, en Uruguay. La identificación de esta especie es difícil por su proximidad taxonómica con otras especies de los géneros Helicoverpa y Heliothis. La confirmación de identificación se realizó mediante caracteres anatómicos externos y de las genitalias, así como estudio de ADN, en machos adultos capturados en trampas de feromona sexual y larvas criadas en laboratorio, recolectadas en cultivos de soja en cuatro localidades de Flores, Lavalleja, Cerro Largo y Rocha.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a polyphagous species, in quarantine pest status in Uruguay, that has been reported in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and more recently, in the neighboring contries of South America. This is the first confirmed report for H. armigera in soybean crops, in Uruguay. The identification of this species is difficult because of its taxonomic proximity with other species of Helicoverpa and Heliothis genera. The confirmed identification was made upon external morphological characteristics, male genitalia, and DNA analysis, on adult males captured with pheromone traps and larvae reared in laboratory, collected from soybean fields, from four locations from Flores, Lavalleja, Cerro Largo and Rocha.

From November 2003 to June 2004, we studied the abundance of bird species and their relationship with vegetation physiognomy (structure) in a temperate forest under 2 conditions: undisturbed forest (ZOQ1) and disturbed forest (ZOQ2) of the Zoquiapan Forest Experimental Station (EFEZ, acronym in Spanish) in central Mexico. Birds were recorded using the method of fixed radius point counts (25 m). We identified the major gradients of variation of descriptive variables of vegetation using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and the relationship between vegetation physiognomy and bird abundance through Poisson regression analyses (ARP). The three main axes of PCA explained the 84.3, 83.4 and 81.7% of the variability present in the vegetation of ZOQ1, ZOQ2 and ZOQ1-ZOQ2, respectively. Tree cover, diameter and tree height explained the 41.5, 43.7 and 41.8% of the variance for component 1. Bush cover, diameter and bush height contributed to 28.4, 25.0 and 25.3% for component 2, while herbaceous and bush cover explained the 14.4, 14.6 and 14.5% for component 3. The ARP indicated a statistically significant relationship (p< 0.05) between vegetation physiognomy (described by the first 3 axes of the ACP) and the abundance in 19 (ZOQ1) and 24 (ZOQ2) species of birds recorded; as well as in the three groups of birds analyzed, which indicates that some habitat features had an effect on the abundance of particular bird species.

Durante noviembre 2003 y junio 2004 se estudió la abundancia de especies de aves y su relación con la fisonomía vegetal en un bosque templado bajo 2 condiciones: bosque de pino no perturbado (ZOQ1) y bosque de pino perturbado (ZOQ2) de la Estación Forestal Experimental Zoquiapan (EFEZ), Estado de México. Para el conteo de aves se empleó el método de puntos de conteo con radio fijo (25 m). Los principales gradientes de las variables descriptoras de la vegetación se determinaron con análisis de componentes principales (ACP) y la relación fisonomía-abundancia por especie y grupos de aves mediante análisis de regresión Poisson (ARP). Los ejes principales del ACP explicaron el 84.3, 83.4 y 81.7% de la variabilidad presente en la vegetación de ZOQ1, ZOQ2 y ZOQ1-ZOQ2. La cobertura, diámetro y altura de árboles fueron las variables que explicaron el 41.5, 43.7 y 41.8% de la varianza para el componente 1. La cobertura, diámetro y altura de arbustivas explicaron el 28.4, 25.0 y 25.3% para el 2; por último, la cobertura de herbáceas y arbustivas el 14.4, 14.6 y 14.5% para el componente 3. Los ARP indicaron una relación estadísticamente significativa (p< 0.05) entre la fisonomía vegetal (descrita por los 3 primeros ejes del ACP) y la abundancia en 19 (ZOQ1) y 24 (ZOQ2) especies de aves registradas; así como en los 3 grupos de aves analizados, lo cual evidencia un efecto de la fisonomía vegetal sobre ciertas especies y grupos avifaunísticos.

The study of trophic coexistence in bird species is relevant to their management and conservation. From January to October 2008, feeding behaviors and entomological diet components of Melanerpes formicivorous and Picoides scalaris were identified. Fixed radius points were used to observe birds, mist nest were used to capture them. Melanerpes formicivorous and Picoides scalaris preferred the hunting techniques Drilling and Collecting during feeding behaviors. These hunting techniques were explained by five and four variables (P<0.05), respectively. The strata Pinus cembroides and Quercus spp were the most common by both species. Coleoptera and Hemíptera were the most consumed insect orders. The main families recorded correspond to Scolytidae, Curculionidae, Penta-tomidae, Cicadellidae, Cleridae and Melyridae. The types of insects most consumed by both species were Pest (P), No Pest (NP) and Predators (PR). A significant proportion of individuals (X²=9.19, X²0001(5)=20.5) of insects in diets was recorded. However, it was not possible to record all insect fragments (X²=56.33, X²0.001(5) =20.5). The number of individuals (a=0.05, P-value=0.2317) and fragments (a=0.05, P-value=0.2606) among species was similar. Seven variables (P<0.05) determined the occurrence of fat and consumption of prey. Although the two species of woodpeckers studied have similar anatomy, physiology and ethology, they trophically coexisted in ANPPA segregated during their feeding process minimizing, in this way, interspecific competition.

Estudiar la coexistencia trófica en aves es relevante para su manejo y conservación. Para ello, de enero a octubre de 2008 se identificaron técnicas de cacería y componentes entomológicos de las dietas de aves piciformes. Para la observación de las aves se usó la técnica de búsqueda intensiva en puntos de radio fijo, y para su captura, redes de niebla. Melanerpes formicivorous y Picoides scalaris prefirieron las técnicas de cacería Perforar y Colectar. Dichas técnicas se explicaron por cinco y cuatro variables (P<0.05), respectivamente. Los estratos más utilizados fueron Pinus cembroides y Quercus spp. Los órdenes de insectos más consumidos fueron Coleóptera y Hemíptera. Las principales familias registradas corresponden a Scolytidae, Curculionidae, Pentatomidae, Cicadellidae, Cleridae y Melyridae. Los insectos más consumidos fueron los tipo Plaga (P), No Plaga (NP) y Predadores (PR). Se registró una proporción significativa de individuos (X²=9.19, X²0.001(5)=20.5) de insectos en las dietas. Sin embargo, no fue posible registrar todos los fragmentos (X²=56.33, X²0.001(5)=20.5). El número de individuos (a=0.05, P-value=0.2317) y fragmentos (a=0.05, P-value=0.2606) entre especies fue similar. Siete variables (P<0.05) determinaron la ocurrencia de grasa y el consumo de presas. Los Picidos bajo estudio, a pesar de poseer anatomías, fisiologías y etologías similares, coexistieron tróficamente segregados durante la procuración alimenticia, minimizando de esta manera la competencia interespecífica.

Little research has been carried out into the way perturbances in temperate forests affect bird communities with respect to richness, abundance, and species diversity. The presence of bird species was studied (November 2003-June 2004) in two zones of the Estación Forestal Experimental (Forest Experimental Station) Zoquiapan (EFEZ), Estado de México: one with slightly altered pine forest (ZOQ1) and the other with disturbed mixed forest (ZOQ2). Capture methodologies with mist nets and point count at fixed radius were used. In ZOQ2 there was species richness significantly higher (F=8.42; P=0.0082) than in ZOQ1 for point count with fixed radius. These data followed a log-normal series (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > or = 7.16 <14.06; gl=7) distribution in abundance for ZOQ1, and a geometric series (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > or = 31<43.77; gl=32) for ZOQ2. Capture data obtained with mist nets followed a geometric series in ZOQ1 (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > or = 4.9 < 33.92; gl = 22) as well as in ZOQ2 (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > or = 46.26 >43.77; gl=32). Shannon diversity (H') for ZOQ2 (H'=2.9) was significantly higher (F=0.06; P=0.0472) than for ZOQ1 (H'=2.7), for capture with mist nets. The conservation of disturbed zones in temperate forests on local (study area) and regional scale (Sierra Nevada) is important, due to the fact that they involve ecological processes determining structure and dynamics of the bird communities throughout time.

La forma en que las perturbaciones sobre bosques templados afectan a las comunidades de aves en términos de riqueza, abundancia y diversidad de especies ha sido escasamente investigada. La presencia de especies de aves fue estudiada (noviembre 2003-junio 2004) en dos zonas de la Estación Forestal Experimental Zoquiapan (EFEZ), Estado de México: una con bosque de pino poco alterado (ZOQ1) y otra con bosque mixto perturbado (ZOQ2). Se usaron las metodologías de captura por redes de niebla y recuento en puntos con radio fijo. En ZOQ2 hubo una riqueza de especies significativamente (F=8.42; P=0.0082) mayor que ZOQ1 para el recuento en puntos con radio fijo. Dichos datos siguieron una serie log-normal (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > o = 7.16<14.06; gl=7) en la distribución de la abundancia para ZOQ1 y una geométrica (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > o = 31<43.77; gl=32) en ZOQ2. Los datos de captura por redes de niebla siguieron una serie geométrica en ZOQ1 (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > o = 4.9<33.92; gl=22) y en ZOQ2 (<img border=0 src="../../../../../img/revistas/agro/v44n2/a4s1.jpg" > o = 46.26>43.77; gl=32). La diversidad Shannon (H') para ZOQ2 (H'=2.9) fue significativamente (F=0.06;P=0.0472) mayor que ZOQ1 (H'=2.7) para la captura mediante redes de niebla. Es importante la conservación de zonas perturbadas en bosques templados a escala local (área de estudio) y regional (Sierra Nevada), debido a que involucran procesos ecológicos que determinan la estructura y dinámica de las comunidades de aves a través del tiempo.

In the period from February through June 2004, the presence of different bird species was studied in two zones located at the Experimental Forest Station Zoquiapan (EFEZ for its Spanish acronym), state of Mexico, one with slightly disturbed pine forest (ZOQ 1) and another with mixed perturbed forest (ZOQ 2). The points recounting method with fixed radio for bird monitoring was used as well as the square embedded method and the quadrant with a central point, the last one to allow sampling the vegetation. The distribution of birds in vertical vegetation strata was characterized and compared using Poisson regression analysis and frequency observation; furthermore, a specific analysis was developed to describe the vegetal structure in both zones. The vertical distribution of birds followed four patterns: low (B), high (A), high-low (AB) and indeterminate (I). The individual's abundance per stratum had a different value within strata and zones; in both sites the upper stratum showed a greater abundance than in the low and medium ones, although the number of individuals per specie registered in each stratum was the greatest in the perturbed mixed forest. The relative importance value (VIR for its Spanish acronym) of vegetation confirmed than ZOQ 1 had Pinus hartwegii as the predominant specie with some shrubs of Penstemon gentianoides and Senecio asteracae. ZOQ 2 was a mixed forest comprised by S. asteracae, P. gentianoides, Lupinus montanus shrubs and Alnus jorullensis, P. hartwegii and Abies religiosa trees. The height histograms determined two and three vertical strata, respectively.

De febrero a junio del 2004, la presencia de diferentes especies de aves fue estudiada en dos zonas localizadas en la Estación Forestal Experimental Zoquiapan (EFEZ), Estado de México: una con bosque de pino poco alterado (ZOQ 1) y otra con bosque mixto perturbado (ZOQ 2). Se empleó el método de recuento en puntos con radio fijo para el monitoreo de aves; así como los métodos de cuadros empotrados y cuadrantes con punto central para el muestreo de la vegetación. Se caracterizó y comparó la distribución de aves en estratos verticales de la vegetación, mediante análisis de regresión Poisson y por frecuencia de observación; además, se desarrollaron análisis específicos para describir la estructura vegetal de ambas zonas. La distribución vertical de las aves siguió cuatro patrones: bajo (B), alto (A), alto-bajo (AB) e indeterminado (I). La abundancia de individuos por estrato tuvo un valor diferente entre estratos y zonas; en ambas, el estrato superior tuvo una mayor abundancia que el inferior y medio. Sin embargo, el número de individuos por especie, registrado en cada estrato, fue mayor en el bosque perturbado. El Valor de Importancia Relativa (VIR) de la vegetación confirmó que ZOQ 1 es un rodal dominado por Pinus hartwegii y algunas arbustivas de Penstemon gentianoides y Senecio asteracae. ZOQ 2 es un bosque mixto conformado por arbustos de S. asteracae, P. gentianoides, Lupinus montanus y árboles de Alnus jorullensis, P. hartwegii y Abies religiosa. Los histogramas de alturas definieron dos y tres estratos verticales, respectivamente.
