ABSTRACT The presence of diastemas is one of the most common aesthetic complaints among patients. The use of composite resins is a good aesthetic and functional option to perform restorations and implement restorative techniques in a minimally invasive way. The resin layering technique was introduced in 1980, giving very good results in color selection, but being the most complex procedure and requiring great technical skills in addition to an increase in clinical time. Composite materials and restorative techniques that aid in the simplified use of clinical protocols are highly sought after by dentists to reduce chair time and minimize post-operative sensitivity. It is for these reasons, in addition to simplifying shade taking, that Tokuyama Dental developed Omnichroma resin which claims to have the ability to copy the color of the remaining tooth substrate shortly after light curing known as the “Chameleon Effect” using a single shade. The objective of this article is to describe in detail, through a clinical case report, the closure of diastemas with Tokuyama Dental's Omnichroma universal resin.

RESUMEN La presencia de los diastemas es una de las quejas estéticas más comunes entre los pacientes. La utilización de resinas compuestas es una buena opción estética y funcional para realizar restauraciones e implementar técnicas restauradoras de forma mínimamente invasiva. La técnica de estratificación con resinas se introdujo en 1980 dando muy buenos resultados en la selección de color, pero siendo el procedimiento más complejo y requiriendo grandes habilidades técnicas además de un aumento de tiempo clínico. Los materiales de composite y técnicas restauradoras que ayudan al uso simplificado de protocolos clínicos son muy procurados por los odontólogos para reducir el tiempo de trabajo en el sillón y minimizar la sensibilidad post operatoria. Es por estos motivos, además de simplificar la toma de color, que Tokuyama Dental desarrolló la resina Omnichroma que dice tener la habilidad de copiar el color del sustrato del diente remanente poco después de la fotopolimerización conocido como “Efecto Camaleón” utilizando un solo tono. El objetivo de este artículo es el de describir detalladamente mediante un reporte de caso clínico el cierre de diastemas con la resina universal Omnichroma de Tokuyama Dental.

Abstract: The present research corresponds to a non-experimental cross-sectional study that analyzed the effects of the trait-state anxiety variables on positive affectivity and satisfaction with life. Following a convenience sampling, participants were 742 university students. The instruments used were the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), the Trait-State Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the positive affects dimension of the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). Structural Equation Models were conducted to assess the effect of the studied variables on wellbeing. Results showed that the trait-anxiety model presents slight inverse relations (b < 0.10; Cohen, 1988) with life satisfaction and positive affectivity, while the state-anxiety model presents moderate relations (b < 0.30). This last one is a better predictor of life satisfaction and positive affectivity. The overall model presents an adequate fit to data (RMSEA = 0.037, CFI = 0.93, TLI = 0.93, SRMR = 0.049). It is concluded that state anxiety has a stronger effect on wellbeing indicators.

Resumen: La presente investigación correspondió a un estudio no experimental, de tipo analítico transversal, en la que se analizaron los efectos de las variables ansiedad rasgo-estado sobre afectividad positiva y satisfacción con la vida. Por medio de una muestra por conveniencia, participaron 742 estudiantes universitarios. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron la Escala Satisfacción con la Vida, el Inventario Ansiedad Rasgo-Estado y la dimensión de afectos positivos de la Escala de Afectividad Positiva y Negativa. Se llevaron a cabo modelos de ecuaciones estructurales con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de las variables estudiadas sobre el bienestar. Los resultados mostraron que el modelo de ansiedad rasgo presenta relaciones inversas leves (b < 0,10; Cohen, 1988) con satisfacción con la vida y afectividad positiva, mientras que el modelo de ansiedad estado presenta relaciones moderadas (b < 0,30). Este último resulta mejor predictor de satisfacción con la vida y afectividad positiva. El modelo general depurado presenta niveles adecuados de ajuste a los datos (RMSEA = 0,037, CFI = 0,93 TLI = 0,93, SRMR = 0,049). Se concluye que la ansiedad como estado tiene un efecto más importante sobre las medidas de bienestar.

Aim. To assess the influence of perceived sources of stress amongst University of Chile dental students on their academic performance. Subjects and methods. In this research was used a modified Dental Environment Stress Questionnaire (DESQ) consisting of 25 questions was applied to 60% of students of each year. Tests were applied to compare perceived sources of stress between courses. The Pearson r test was used to determine the influence of stress sources on academic performance. Results. A sample of 302 students answered the questionnaire. In results, the main sources of stress in all courses were grades and examinations, fear of failing a course or a year and lack of time to relax. An important stressor for higher courses was the negative atmosphere created by clinical supervisors. Workload showed a negative correlation with academic performance, and preclinical and clinical training showed a positive correlation. Conclusions. The fourth year seems being the most stressful. Earlier contact with patients and an improvement in curriculum planning and administration should be put in practice to avoid the increased stress of the clinical training.

Objetivo. Evaluar la influencia de distintas fuentes de estrés en el rendimiento académico de estudiantes de odontología de la Universidad de Chile. Sujetos y métodos. Se utilizó el cuestionario de estrés en el ambiente dental (DESQ) modificado de 25 preguntas, que se aplicó al 60% de los estudiantes de cada año. Se compararon distintas fuentes de estrés percibidas entre los cursos. La prueba r de Pearson se utilizó para determinar la influencia de las fuentes de estrés en el rendimiento académico. Resultados. Una muestra de 302 estudiantes respondió el cuestionario. Entre los resultados se identificó que las principales fuentes de estrés en todos los cursos eran las calificaciones y los exámenes, el miedo a fallar en un curso o un año y la falta de tiempo para relajarse. Un factor de estrés importante para los cursos superiores fue la atmósfera negativa creada por los supervisores clínicos. La carga de trabajo presentó una correlación negativa con el rendimiento académico, mientras que la práctica preclínica y clínica mostraron una correlación positiva. Conclusiones. El cuarto año parece ser el más estresante. El contacto temprano con los pacientes y una mejor planificación curricular y administración deben ponerse en práctica para evitar el aumento del estrés de la formación clínica.

The Chilean reform created the Program of Explicit Guarantees in Health to safeguard the attention under guaranteed conditions of access, opportunity, financial protection and quality for prioritized situations such as oral health of the 60-year-old adult. Objective: To compare oral health and satisfaction between patient beneficiaries of the program of guaranteed oral health for 60 year-olds and non-beneficiaries. Methods: Case control study. The participants were divided in cases (n=48) and control group (n=28). Clinical examination gathering the variables: sex, age, systemic declared diseases, educational level, use of prosthesis, indexes COPD, CPITN and O'Leary. To measure satisfaction, SERVPERF (the multidimensional scale not weighted) was used. Inference analysis by means of test of significance (c2 Pearson, Fisher´s, Mann-Whitney, Mood´s Medians and Kolmogorov-Smirnov with a confidence level of 95%) in the software SPSS19, Stata 10.1 and Minitab 15. In the oral measurements significant differences were found only in decay and COPD. There were no differences in the needs ofperiodontal treatment between the groups (p-value=0.615). The presence of removable prosthesis was statistically greater in the group of cases (OR=4.4 [1.6-12.5]); p-value=0.006). The health reform known as GES Complete Oral Health for 60-year-old adults, demonstrates to change the clinical parameters of the patient beneficiaries, focused on restoration with a significant increase of prosthesis and a decrease of cavities, but it does not achieve maintenance of periodontal health and management of risk factors. User satisfaction was good among the beneficiaries of the program.

La reforma chilena creó el Programa de Garantías Explícitas en Salud (GES) para salvaguardar la atención bajo condiciones garantizadas de acceso, oportunidad, protección financiera y calidad para situaciones prioritarias como la salud oral del adulto de 60 años. Objetivo: Comparar la salud bucodental y satisfacción entre pacientes beneficiarios del GES salud oral integral 60 años y no beneficiarios. Estudio caso-control. Los participantes se dividieron en casos (n=48) y grupo control (n=28). Examen clínico recogiendo las variables: sexo, edad, enfermedades sistémicas declaradas, nivel educacional, uso de prótesis, índices COPD, CPITN y O'Leary. Para medir satisfacción se utilizó la escala multidimensional SERVPERF no ponderado. Análisis inferencial mediante test de significancia (pruebas de Pearson, Exacto de Fisher, Mann-Whitney, Medianas de Mood y Kolmogorov-Smirnov con un nivel de confianza del 95%) en los software SPSS19, Stata-SE 10.1 y Minitab 15. En las mediciones bucodentales se encontraron diferencias significativas sólo en cariados y COPD. No hubo diferencias en las necesidades de tratamiento periodontal entre los grupos (p-valor=0.615). La presencia de prótesis removible es estadísticamente mayor en el grupo de casos (OR=4,4 [1,612,5]); p-valor=0,006). La reforma en salud a través del GES Salud Oral Integral de 60 años, demuestra variar los parámetros clínicos de los pacientes beneficiarios, enfocado a la restauración con un aumento significativo de prótesis y una disminución de las caries, pero no logra mantener la salud periodontal ni el manejo de los factores de riesgo. La satisfacción del usuario es buena en los beneficiarios del GES.

In this paper, we analyze the schooling alternatives of families that could face school closure. This article identifies, characterizes, and georeferences the institutions classified as low-performing by the SEP Law along with their closest alternatives. The findings indicate that a significant number of families do not have any quality alternatives nearby, particularly families in rural areas and/ or in schools with a high percentage of low SES students. Additionally, when admissions barriers and family preferences are incorporated in the analysis, school alternatives are considerably reduced. Alternatives are further reduced when using a more stringent definition of school quality.

Para analizar las opciones que tendrían las familias frente al cierre de su escuela este artículo identifica, caracteriza y georreferencia a los establecimientos clasificados como de bajo desempeño por la Ley SEP y a sus alternativas cercanas. Los resultados indican que un porcentaje importante de las familias no tiene alternativas de calidad, principalmente aquellas que viven en sectores rurales y/o que pertenecen a escuelas vulnerables. Adicionalmente, al incorporar las barreras de entrada de las escuelas y las preferencias de las familias, dichas opciones se reducen considerablemente, al igual que al utilizar una definición más exigente de calidad.

Educational systems around the world pursue both public and private objectives. They are able to balance both objectives by allowing greater freedom for schools to meet the families’ private objectives with an educational model that delivers a collective experience that maintains a cohesive society. Using data from PISA 2009, this study explores the possible implications that public and private funding and provision have on the following four objectives of education: (a) freedom of choice, (b) productive efficiency, (c) equity, and (d) social cohesion. We find that there are tensions in achieving some of these objectives simultaneously. However, there are some policies that reduce some of these tensions, while others tend to exacerbate them.

Los diversos sistemas educativos en el mundo persiguen objetivos tanto públicos como privados. Específicamente, deben intentar conciliar el permitir mayor libertad para que las escuelas puedan responder a los objetivos privados de las familias con preservar un modelo educacional que entregue una experiencia educacional colectiva para mantener una sociedad cohesionada. Usando datos de PISA 2009, este trabajo examina de forma exploratoria las posibles implicancias que tendría el tipo de financiamiento y tipo de provisión (pública o privada) en el logro de los siguientes cuatro objetivos que han sido planteados para la educación: (a) libertad de elección, (b) eficiencia productiva, (c) equidad, y (d) cohesión social. En términos generales, se encuentra que existen tensiones en el logro de objetivos privados y públicos de forma simultánea. Sin embargo, existen algunas políticas públicas que logran reducir estas tensiones, mientras que otras tienden a incrementarla.

Thapsigargin, a specific inhibitor of most animal intracellular SERCA-type Ca2+ pumps present in the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum, was originally isolated from the roots of the Mediterranean plant Thapsia gargancia L. Here, we demonstrate that this root-derived compound is capable of altering root gravitropism in Arabidopsis thaliana. Thapsigargin concentrations as low as 0.1 µM alter root gravitropism whereas under similar conditions cyclopiazonic acid does not. Furthermore, a fluorescently conjugated thapsigargin (BODIPY FL thapsigargin) suggests that target sites for thapsigargin are located in intracellular organelles in the root distal elongation zone and the root cap, regions known to regulate root gravitropism
