SUMMARY: The objective of this study was to evaluate the changes of head and cervical spine posture of skeletal class malocclusion in adolescent with maxillary protraction. Thirty cases of skeletal class malocclusion were randomly selected from the Stomatological Hospital of Shanxi Medical University. High-quality lateral cephalograms were collected including pre- and posttreatment to compare the changes of head and cervical spine posture. Data were processed using SPSS 26.0 statistical software. The paired-t test was used to compare pre- and posttreatment mean angular measurements.A significant difference in the SNA(p<0.001), SNB(p<0.01), and ANB(p<0.001) between T1 and T2 showed an improvement in the sagittal relationships. A significant change was observed in middle cervical spine posture, while upper cervical spine posture variables showed no significant difference after treatment. Skeletal class with maxillary protraction appliance not only led to the improvement of sagittal relationship, but also changed the middle cervical spine posture.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los cambios en la postura de la cabeza y la columna cervical debido a la maloclusión clase esquelética en adolescentes con protracción maxilar. Treinta casos de maloclusión de clase esquelética fueron seleccionados al azar del Hospital Estomatológico de la Universidad Médica de Shanxi. Se recogieron cefalogramas laterales de alta calidad, incluidos el tratamiento previo y posterior, para comparar los cambios en la postura de la cabeza y la columna cervical. Los datos se procesaron con el software estadístico SPSS 26.0. Se utilizó la prueba t pareada para comparar las medidas angulares medias antes y después del tratamiento. Una diferencia significativa en SNA (p <0,001), SNB (p <0,01) y ANB (p <0,001) entre T1 y T2 mostró una mejora en las relaciones sagitales. Se observó un cambio significativo en la postura de la columna cervical media, mientras que las variables de postura de la columna cervical superior no mostraron diferencias significativas después del tratamiento. La clase esquelética con aparato de protracción maxilar no solo condujo a la mejora de la relación sagital, sino que también cambió la postura de la columna cervical media.

SUMMARY: This study aimed to compare the clinical value of carotid ultrasound and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for carotid artery stenosis in patients with cerebral infarction. Sixty patients with cerebral infarction underwent carotid ultrasound and DSA. Carotid artery stenosis, degree of stenosis (mild, moderate, severe, and occlusion), and carotid artery plaques were recorded and compared. Carotid stenosis rate was 96.67 % (58/60) and 91.67 % (55/60) on DSA and carotid ultrasound, respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant. Mild, moderate, and severe carotid artery stenosis and occlusion were diagnosed in 35, 28, 20, and 17 arteries, respectively, with DSA, and in 39, 25, 10, and 9 arteries, respectively, with carotid ultrasound. There was a statistically significant difference in the degree of carotid stenosis between the two methods (p<0.05). The kappa value of carotid plaques detected by carotid ultrasound and DSA was 0.776, indicating good consistency. Both carotid ultrasound and DSA are effective for screening carotid artery stenosis and carotid atherosclerotic plaques. While carotid ultrasound is faster and more convenient, DSA can more accurately detect the degree of stenosis and presence of occlusion. Thus, our recommendation is a combination of carotid ultrasound and DSA in clinical settings to improve the convenience and accuracy of diagnosis.

RESUMEN: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo comparar el valor clínico de la ecografía carotídea y la angiografía por sustracción digital (DSA) para la estenosis de la arteria carótida en pacientes con infarto cerebral. Sesenta pacientes con infarto cerebral fueron sometidos a ecografía carotídea y DSA. Se registraron y compararon la estenosis de la arteria carótida, el grado de estenosis (leve, moderada, grave y oclusión) y las placas de la arteria carótida. La tasa de estenosis carotídea fue del 96,67 % (58/60) y del 91,67 % (55/60) en DSA y ecografía carotídea, respectivamente, y la diferencia no fue estadísticamente significativa. Se diagnosticaron estenosis y oclusión de la arteria carótida leve, moderada y grave en 35, 28, 20 y 17 arterias, respectivamente, con DSA, y en 39, 25, 10 y 9 arterias, respectivamente, con ecografía carotídea. Hubo una diferencia estadísticamente significativa en el grado de estenosis carotídea entre los dos métodos (p<0,05). El valor kappa de las placas carotídeas detectadas por ecografía carotídea y DSA fue de 0,776, lo que indica una buena consistencia. Tanto la ecografía carotídea como la DSA son eficaces para detectar la estenosis de la arteria carótida y las placas ateroscleróticas carotídeas. Si bien la ecografía carotídea es más rápida y conveniente, la DSA puede detectar con mayor precisión el grado de estenosis y la presencia de oclusión. Por lo tanto, nuestra recomendación es una combinación de ecografía carotídea y DSA en entornos clínicos para mejorar la conveniencia y precisión del diagnóstico.

Abstract To explore characteristics of patients with pneumonia infected by 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2019 outside Hubei Province, China. 40 patients with pneumonia infected by COVID-19 which were confirmed by COVID-19 nucleic acid test were included. Procalcitonin (PCT), serum amyloid A (SAA), C-reactive protein (CRP) and computed tomography (CT) manifestations were analyzed. 40% of patients had clear contact history with Wuhan or other areas of Hubei Province. 60% of patients were clustered diseases and 40% were imported cases. 75% of patients had initial fever, 7.5% had cough, 5% had sore throat at first. 45% had decreased lymphocyte count, 72.5% and 55% patients had increased levels of SAA and CRP. 72.5% of the patients showed multiple ground glass lesions in one or two lungs on chest CT. 90% of the patients with pneumonia are of the common type, and α-interferon atomization inhalation combined with Lopinavir/Ritonavir tablets were given to patients during treatment. 62.5% of the patients were treated with antibiotics, and 15% with hormone. All patients improved after treatment, and 14 patients were cured and discharged. Family cluster infection and asymptomatic infection may be the main way of spreading of COVID-19 pneumonia outside Hubei Province in China.

RESUMO Objetivo Explorar o efeito das pressões intraorais na ingestão de colostro. Métodos Mulheres saudáveis com bebês a termo foram matriculadas após o nascimento. As pressões intraorais foram detectadas antes e após o início da lactação pelas mães através de um sensor de pressão durante uma sessão de amamentação. A ingestão de colostro foi mensurada pelo peso da criança antes e após a amamentação. O início da lactação foi confirmado pela percepção das mães de plenitude súbita da mama. Resultados O pico de pressão de sucção dos recém-nascidos foi de 19,89±7,67kPa antes do início da lactação e caiu para 11,54±4,49kPa após o início da lactação (p<0,01). A ingestão de colostro foi de 4,02±4,26g antes do início da lactação e 11,09±9,43g após o início da lactação. A pressão de sucção foi correlacionada com a quantidade de ingestão de colostro antes e após o início da lactação depois de terem sido feitos ajustes dos fatores de confusão. Conclusão A pressão intraoral dos recém-nascidos no estágio inicial teve um papel predominante na ingestão de colostro. Recomenda-se iniciar a amamentação imediatamente após o nascimento para aproveitar as vantagens da resposta ativa e robusta à sucção. É importante entender a importância que a pressão de sucção desempenha na ingestão de colostro e na conquista da imunidade ativa durante os primeiros dias após o nascimento.

ABSTRACT Objective To explore the effects of intraoral pressure on colostrum intake. Methods Healthy women with full-term infants were admitted in the study after birth. Intraoral pressure was detected before and after the mothers’ onset of lactation by a pressure sensor during a breastfeeding session. Colostrum intake was measured by weighting the infant before and after breastfeeding. The onset of lactation was confirmed by the mothers’ perceptions of sudden breast fullness. Results The newborns’ peak sucking pressure was 19.89±7.67kPa before the onset of lactation, dropping to 11.54±4.49kPa after mothers’ onset of lactation (p<0.01). The colostrum intake was 4.02±4.26g before the onset of lactation, and 11.09±9.43g after the onset of lactation. Sucking pressure was correlated with the amount of colostrum intake before and after the onset of lactation after adjusting the confounding factors. Conclusions The newborns’ intraoral pressure at early stage played a predominant role in colostrum intake. It is recommended to initiate breastfeeding immediately after the birth to take advantages of the active and robust sucking response. It is valuable to understand the importance that the sucking pressure plays in the colostrum intake and active immunity achievement during the first several days after birth.

Abstract Spider venoms are known to contain proteins and polypeptides that perform various functions including antimicrobial, neurotoxic, analgesic, cytotoxic, necrotic, and hemagglutinic activities. Currently, several classes of natural molecules from spider venoms are potential sources of chemotherapeutics against tumor cells. Some of the spider peptide toxins produce lethal effects on tumor cells by regulating the cell cycle, activating caspase pathway or inactivating mitochondria. Some of them also target the various types of ion channels (including voltage-gated calcium channels, voltage-gated sodium channels, and acid-sensing ion channels) among other pain-related targets. Herein we review the structure and pharmacology of spider-venom peptides that are being used as leads for the development of therapeutics against the pathophysiological conditions including cancer and pain.

Abstract: HIV has been the major infection of the late 20th century. This review has the objective of dissemina ting the experience of the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Committee of the Chilean Pediatric Society since the detection of the first HIV-infected child in Chile and promoting the screening and referral of new- borns/children exposed to HIV and those infected with HIV. Updated data from the national and fo reign literature, presentations in Congresses/Workshops held by the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Committee, and experiences of its members are analyzed. It is presented the history of the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Care Program in screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up since its inception in 1990. The data on patients detected from 1987 to 2008 by the Committee (Cohort 1) and those obtained by e-mail from patients detected from 1987 to 2014 (Cohort 2) are presented. The analysis of these cohorts led to the conclusion that with the application of the Preventive Vertical Transmission Program (PPTV) for HIV, the vertical transmission of this virus has decreased from >35% prior to 1995 to <2% at present, and that clinical, immunological and virological improvement with prolonged survival has been obtained with the use of ART. Finally, we discuss the achievements obtained by comparing the results with those of the current literature, showing that Chile is on the brink of achieving the goal of eradicating the vertical transmission of HIV.

Resumen: El VIH ha sido la gran infección de fines del siglo XX. Esta revisión tiene como objetivos dar a cono cer la experiencia del Comité de VIH/SIDA Pediátrico de la Sociedad Chilena de Pediatría desde la detección del primer niño infectado con VIH en Chile, y promover la pesquisa y derivación de los re cién nacidos/niños expuestos al VIH y de aquellos infectados con VIH. Se analizan datos actualizados de la literatura nacional y extranjera, presentaciones a Congresos/Talleres efectuadas por el Comité VIH/SIDA Pediátrico, y experiencias de sus integrantes. Se da a conocer la historia del Programa de Atención VIH/SIDA Pediátrico en la pesquisa, diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento desde su crea ción en 1990. Se presentan los datos de los pacientes detectados desde 1987 al 2008 por el Comité (Cohorte 1) y aquellos obtenidos mediante correo electrónico de los pacientes detectados desde 1987 al 2014 (Cohorte 2). El análisis de estas cohortes permitió concluir que con la aplicación del Progra ma Preventivo de Transmisión Vertical (PPTV) del VIH ha disminuido la transmisión vertical de este virus desde >35% previo a 1995 a <2% en la actualidad, y que con el uso de TARV se ha obtenido mejoría clínica, inmunológica y virológica con prolongación de la sobrevida. Finalmente se discuten los logros obtenidos comparando sus resultados con los de la literatura actual, evidenciando que Chile se encuentra a punto de lograr la meta de la eliminación de la transmisión vertical del VIH.

A comprehensive search of PubMed and Embase was performed in January 2015 to examine the available literature on validated diagnostic models of the pre-test probability of stable coronary artery disease and to describe the characteristics of the models. Studies that were designed to develop and validate diagnostic models of pre-test probability for stable coronary artery disease were included. Data regarding baseline patient characteristics, procedural characteristics, modeling methods, metrics of model performance, risk of bias, and clinical usefulness were extracted. Ten studies involving the development of 12 models and two studies focusing on external validation were identified. Seven models were validated internally, and seven models were validated externally. Discrimination varied between studies that were validated internally (C statistic 0.66-0.81) and externally (0.49-0.87). Only one study presented reclassification indices. The majority of better performing models included sex, age, symptoms, diabetes, smoking, and hyperlipidemia as variables. Only two diagnostic models evaluated the effects on clinical decision making processes or patient outcomes. Most diagnostic models of the pre-test probability of stable coronary artery disease have had modest success, and very few present data regarding the effects of these models on clinical decision making processes or patient outcomes.

OBJECTIVES: To explore the effects of a discrepancy between actual and preferred living arrangements on the relationship between living arrangements and life satisfaction among the elderly in China. METHODS: Secondary analysis of the 2005 dataset of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey was performed. A binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between life satisfaction and living arrangements. RESULTS: Among those with concordant actual and preferred living arrangements, living in a nursing home increased the likelihood of life satisfaction, whereas living alone and living with a spouse decreased the likelihood of life satisfaction compared to living with the next generation and a spouse. Among those with discordant living arrangements, there were no differences in life satisfaction between the various living arrangements, except that living with a spouse increased life satisfaction compared to living with the next generation and a spouse. CONCLUSIONS: A discrepancy between actual and preferred living arrangements modifies the relationship between life satisfaction and actual living arrangement. Living in a nursing home is a good option for Chinese elder care only if the older individual emotionally accepts it. Living alone or with a spouse is not a good arrangement for elder care, even though it is often preferred by the elderly. Those with discordant living arrangements are more satisfied living with their spouses.

Background Industrial food processing induces protein glycation modifications and toxic advanced glycation end products (AGEs) which affect human health. Therefore, it is of interest to monitor AGEs in food processing. The present study was carried out to investigate the influence of lotus seedpod oligomeric procyanidin (LSOPC) concentrations, solution pH value and metal ions on AGE formation by heat treatment of lactose-lysine model solutions. Ne-(carboxymethyl) lysine (CML), as one of the common AGEs was also determined by HPLC-MS/MS in this experiment. Results The results showed that LSOPC can inhibit the formation of AGEs effectively at higher concentrations, lower temperature, and it can reverse the promotion function of metal ions because of its high inhibition activity. Also, LSOPC can inhibit CML formation in the Maillard reaction as well. Conclusion These results indicated that LSOPC could be used as functional food ingredients to inhibit AGE formation.

Melt blowing is commonly used to convert polymer resin directly into nonwoven fabrics of superfine fibers. Further decrease of the fiber diameter will improve the filtration and adsorption properties remarkably and thus has been appealing to the researchers. Besides the dual slot die, the annular die is utilized to manufacture superfine fibers in the melt blowing process as well. In the dual slot die, the high velocity air flow from both sides of the polymer melt. However, the air encircles the polymer melt entirely in the annular die, which is in favor of the polymer drawing and thus manufacture of nanofibers. In this paper, the air flow field model of the annular die is established and solved numerically. The polymer drawing with the melt blowing annular die is modeled and simulated by introducing the simulation results of the air flow field. The predicted fiber diameters coincide with the experimental data. Effects of the polymer flow rate and initial air velocity on the fiber diameter are also explored. The results show good perspective of using melt blowing technology to manufacture nanofibers materials because melt blowing has a higher output than electrospinning.

Background: β-Glucosidase is known as an effective catalyst for the hydrolysis of various glycosides and immobilization is one of the most efficient strategies to improve its activity recovery and properties. Results: Crosslinking-adsorption-crosslinking method was employed to immobilize β-glucosidase into chitosan beads and response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the immobilized conditions of the maximum activity recovery. Enzyme concentration and adsorption time were found to be significant influence factors, and the maximum activity recovery (50.75%) obtained from response surface methodology was in excellent agreement with experimental value (50.81%). Furthermore, various characteristics of immobilized β-glucosidase were evaluated. Compared to the free β-glucosidase, the immobilized enzyme exhibited broader pH and temperature ranges, enhanced thermal stability, better storage stability and reusability and higher accessibility of the substrate to the immobilized β-glucosidase. Conclusion: Response surface methodology (RSM) was proved to be much economical for optimum immobilization of β-glucosidase into chitosan beads.

Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) based on hyperbranched poly (ether urethane) (PHEU) were prepared from the reaction of the hyperbranched polyether (PHEMO) with different dusocyanates in liquid electrolyte. The ionic conductivities and transference number of the GPEs were investigated by altemating current (AC) impedance and multi-potential steps. It is found that the ionic conductivities of GPEs were influenced by dusocyanate structure, lithium salt concentration and addition amount of liquid electrolyte. Sample PUM-0.5M-80% originated from 4, 4-diphenylmethane dusocyanate (MDI) as the hard segment shows the highest ionic conductivity of 2.41 x10-3 S·cm-1 at ambient temperature. The lithium ion transference number is 0.7. Inaddition, small molecules of liquid electrolyte were perfectly entrapped by polymer matrix, and liquid leakage in lithium ion battery was avoided.
