Resumo A construção de curvas de sítio a partir da modelagem da altura de árvores dominantes medidas em parcelas permanentes em diferentes idades, considerando uma idade de referência, se constitui no método mais prático e difundido no meio florestal para classificar a capacidade produtiva local. Dentro de um processo de Planejamento Florestal, o grau de assertividade das curvas geradas tem consequências quantitativas e qualitativas na alocação de recursos, de forma que a melhoria contínua dos métodos de classificação é de suma importância. Este estudo teve como objetivo propor o uso de modelos de Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNA) para estimar a altura de árvores dominantes de eucalipto, e aplicá-los na geração de curvas de sítio utilizando o método da curva guia, como uma alternativa aos modelos tradicionais de regressão não-linear, avaliando a precisão das estimativas e a estabilidade da classificação da capacidade produtiva local gerada por essas abordagens. Os dados utilizados foram provenientes das medições de 8.819 parcelas permanentes instaladas em povoamentos clonais de Eucalyptus urophylla × Eucalyptus grandis. Foram ajustados cinco modelos não lineares clássicos e as RNA foram treinadas com dois algoritmos: Feed Forward Back Propagation Network (FFBP) e Cascade Forward Back Propagation Network (CFBP). Os resultados mostraram que, de maneira geral, quando utilizada somente a idade das parcelas para estimativa da altura dominante, não houve diferença nos resultados entre as RNA treinadas com os dois algoritmos e os modelos não lineares. Contudo, com adição de novas variáveis do povoamento durante o treinamento das RNA, houve uma melhora nas estimativas das alturas dominantes e gerou uma classificação da capacidade produtiva 13% mais estável se comparada aos modelos de regressão não linear.

Abstract The generation of site curves built from modeling the height of dominant trees measured in permanent plots at different ages considering a reference age constitutes the most practical and widespread method to classify the local productive capacity. Within a Forest Planning process, the assertiveness of the generated curves has quantitative and qualitative consequences in the allocation of resources, so that the continuous improvement of classification methods is of paramount importance. This study aimed to propose models of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to estimate the height of dominant eucalyptus trees, and apply them in the generation of site curves using the guide curve method, as an alternative to non-linear and assess the accuracy of estimates and stability of the classification of local productive capacity generated by these approaches. The data used are from measurements of 8,819 permanent plots installed in clonal stands of Eucalyptus urophylla × Eucalyptus grandis. Five classical non-linear models were fitted and the ANN were trained with two algorithms: Feed Forward Back Propagation Network (FFBP) and Cascade Forward Back Propagation Network (CFBP). In general, when only the age of the plots was used to estimate the dominant height, there was no difference in the results between the ANN trained with the two algorithms and the non-linear models. However, with the addition of new stand variables during ANN training, there was an improvement in estimates of dominant heights and generated a 13% more stable productive capacity classification compared to non-linear regression models.

ABSTRACT This paper aimed to estimate the basic density (DB) of the wood of Cerrado species using mixed linear models. For performing the DBH measurement, the sampling of 334 individuals was carried out. By keeping the Pilodyn apparatus in the DBH position, two measurements were made on opposite sides. Further, for determining DB, the trees were knocked down, followed by removal of five wood discs at different height of stem positions. For this purpose, two sets of modeling alternatives were proposed, which take into account with and without random effects, employing species as a random effect grouping variable. Thus, it was elucidated that, for the estimation of DB, the mixed model that considered the random effects performed better as compared to the alternative model without random effects. The inclusion of random effects leads to the estimation of DB with high accuracy.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar métodos para obtenção do índice de sítio para povoamentos de eucalipto (Eucalyptus spp.), bem como avaliar seus impactos na estabilidade desse índice em bases de dados com e sem a presença de “outliers”. Foram testados três métodos, com uso de regressão linear, regressão quantílica e rede neural artificial. Foram utilizadas 22 parcelas permanentes de inventário florestal contínuo, medidas em árvores com idade de 23 a 83 meses. Os outliers foram identificados com uso de gráfico de boxplot. A rede neural artificial proporcionou melhores resultados que as regressões linear e quantílica, tanto para as estimativas de altura dominante quanto do índice de sítio. A estabilidade da classificação do índice de sítio obtida pela rede neural artificial também foi melhor que a obtida com os outros métodos, independentemente da presença ou da ausência de outliers na base de dados. Isso indica que a rede neural artificial é uma técnica sólida de modelagem na presença de outliers. Quando a causa da presença de outliers na base de dados não é conhecida, eles podem ser mantidos nela se técnicas como as de redes neurais artificiais ou de regressão quantílica forem utilizadas.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to compare methods of obtaining the site index for eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp.) stands, as well as to evaluate their impact on the stability of this index in databases with and without outliers. Three methods were tested, using linear regression, quantile regression, and artificial neural network. Twenty-two permanent plots from a continuous forest inventory were used, measured in trees with ages from 23 to 83 months. The outliers were identified using a boxplot graphic. The artificial neural network showed better results than the linear and quantile regressions, both for dominant height and site index estimates. The stability obtained for the site index classification by the artificial neural network was also better than the one obtained by the other methods, regardless of the presence or the absence of outliers in the database. This shows that the artificial neural network is a solid modelling technique in the presence of outliers. When the cause of the presence of outliers in the database is not known, they can be kept in it if techniques as artificial neural networks or quantile regression are used.

ABSTRACT In forest science it is important evaluate new technologies from computational science. This work aimed to test a different kind of metaheuristic called Variable Neighborhood Search in a forest planning problem. The management total area has 4.210 ha distributed in 120 stands in ages between 1 and 6 years old and site index since 22 m to 31 m. The problem was modelled considering the maximization of the net present value subject to the restrictions: annual cut volume between 140.000 m³ and 160.000 m³, harvester ages equal to 5, 6 or 7 years, and the impossibility of division of the management unity at harvester time. It was evaluated different settings for the Variable Neighborhood Search, varying the quantity of neighbours, the neighbourhood structure and number or generations. 30 repetitions were performed for each setting. The results were compared to the one obtained from integer linear programming and linear programming. The integer linear programming considered the best solution obtained after 1 hour of processing. The best setting to the Variable Neighborhood Search was 100 neighbours, a neighbourhood structure with changes in 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% of prescriptions and 500 iterations. The results shown by the Variable Neighborhood Search was 2,77% worse than one obtained by the integer linear programming with 1 hours of processing, and 2,84% worse than the linear programming. It is possible to conclude that the presented metaheuristic can be used satisfactorily in a resolution of forest scheduling problem when the best parameters are chosen.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of the FSC forestry certification system to improve the forestry sector, in terms of compliance to environmental and social laws and improvements in working conditions resulting from the certification process. Thirty-seven auditing reports from five Brazilian forestry companies were evaluated, throughout the 2006-2013 period. Non-compliance and observations were analyzed and organized into categories, which identified the main performance issues found in certified forestry organizations. 301 instances of non-compliance and 138 observations of audit reports were verified, where 48 and 57% respectively, were linked to the two principles studied. For obtaining and/or maintaining the certificate it is necessary for all violations to be resolved. Therefore, it was concluded that forest certification contributes to the advancement of the forestry sector in Brazil, in relation to compliance with legal, social and labor issues.

RESUMO Neste artigo buscou-se estimar os volumes de árvores de diferentes espécies do Cerrado usando redes neurais artificiais e fazer comparações dos resultados com estimativas obtidas a partir de equações volumétricas tradicionais. Os dados foram coletados em 15 parcelas de 400 m² em uma área de 29,6 ha. Em cada parcela, o diâmetro da altura do peito (D) (diâmetro a 1,30 m do solo), a altura total (Ht) e a altura comercial (Hc) de todos os indivíduos com D igual ou superior a 3,0 cm foram medidos. Depois, cada árvore foi derrubada para obtenção do volume. O método de Huber foi usado considerando a medida dos diâmetros do fuste até 3,0 cm. Os dados obtidos foram utilizados para treinar redes neurais artificiais (RNA) e ajustar equações volumétricas para estimar o volume total e comercial das árvores. Este estudo mostrou que as RNA e as equações volumétricas são eficientes para a obtenção de volumes estimados de árvores no Cerrado. As redes neurais artificiais, que consideram a espécie como uma variável categórica de entrada, apresentaram melhores resultados do que aquelas que são treinadas sem essa variável.

ABSTRACT This paper seeks to estimate tree volumes of different species from the Brazilian savanna by using artificial neural networks and by making comparisons of results with estimates obtained from traditional volumetric equations. Data was obtained from 15 squared samples of 400 m² in an area of 29.6 ha. In each plot, breast height diameter (D) (diameter at 1.30 m from soil), total height (Ht) and commercial height (Hc) of all individuals with D equals or higher than 3.0 cm were measured. Afterwards, each tree was felled for volume measurement. Huber method was used considering measurement of stem diameters with more than 3.0 cm. Obtained data was used to train artificial neural networks (ANN) and to adjust volumetric equations to estimate total and commercial volume of trees. This study has shown that ANN and regression models are efficient for obtaining estimated volumes of trees in the Brazilian savanna. This suggests that artificial neural networks, that take into consideration species as a categorical input variable and were data trained, presented better results than those that are trained without categorical input.

RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência da predição dos índices de diversidade de Shannon (H') e de Equabilidade de Pielou (J) em fragmentos florestais do Cerrado brasileiro a partir de índices de vegetação e métricas da paisagem empregando redes neurais artificiais (RNA). Utilizaram-se redes anteroalimentadas (feedforward), treinadas por meio do algoritmo da retropropagação do erro (back propagation). As variáveis utilizadas como entradas das RNA para a estimação simultânea dos índices foram: as categóricas (índices H' e J) e as numéricas relacionadas às médias e desvios padrão dos índices de vegetação (NDVI, SAVI, EVI, MVI5 e MVI7) e métricas da paisagem (AREA, GYRATE, SHAPE, CONTIG, CORE e ENN). Foram gerados cinco modelos de RNA a partir das relações funcionais entre as variáveis numéricas inerentes aos índices de vegetação em duas épocas, uma seca (junho) e outra chuvosa (fevereiro). A arquitetura das redes foi a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) para estimar simultaneamente H' e J: 500 utilizando os índices de vegetação na época úmida (100 para cada índice de vegetação) e 500, na seca (100 para cada índice de vegetação). Foi avaliada a precisão, acurácia e realismo biológico das RNA. As redes construídas na época chuvosa e seca que utilizaram os índices de vegetação MVI5 (Moisture Vegetation Index) e SAVI (Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index), respectivamente, foram mais adequadas, precisas e realistas biologicamente para estimar, simultaneamente, os índices de H' e de J. A modelagem por RNA demonstrou-se adequada para estimar os índices de diversidade e equabilidade.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the predictive efficiency of Shannon index (H') and Pielou Equitability index (J) in forest fragments from the Brazilian Cerrado biome, from the vegetation indices and landscape metrics using artificial neural networks (ANN). Feedforward networks were used and they were trained through a back propagation error algorithm. The variables used as ANN input for simultaneous estimation of indices were: the categorical (H' and J) and the numbers related to the mean and standard deviation of vegetation indices (NDVI, SAVI, EVI, and MVI5, MVI7) and landscape metrics (AREA, GYRATE, SHAPE, CONTIG, CORE and ENN). It was generated five models of ANN from the functional relationships between numerical variables inherent to vegetation indices in two seasons, a dry season (June) and a rainy season (February). The architecture of the networks was the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), to estimate simultaneously the H' and J: 500 using vegetation indices in the wet season (100 for each vegetation index) and 500 in dry (100 for each vegetation index). The precision, accuracy and realism of biological ANN were assessed. The nets built during the rainy season and dry season that used vegetation indices MVI5 (Moisture Vegetation Index) and SAVI (Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index), respectively, were more appropriate, accurate and biologically realistic to estimate both indices H' and J. The ANN modeling demonstrated to be adequate to estimate the diversity index.

RESUMO Dada a importância de se avaliar novas tecnologias para otimização do planejamento florestal, este trabalho objetivou introduzir a metaheurística Clonal Selection Algorithm na resolução de um problema de ordenamento da produção florestal. Considerou-se uma área manejada de tamanho igual a 4.210 ha, contendo 120 talhões com idades entre 1 e 6 anos e índice de sítio variando entre 22 m e 31 m. O problema foi modelado com o objetivo de se maximizar o valor presente líquido global do empreendimento e considerou como restrições uma demanda anual entre 140.000m3 e 160.000 m3, colheita apenas nas idades de 5, 6 e 7 anos e a imposição de não fracionamento dos talhões no momento do corte. Foram avaliados diferentes configurações da metaheurística Clonal Selection Algorithm, variando-se as taxas de seleção, clonagem, hipermutação e substituição, além do tamanho da população inicial. Considerou-se como critério de parada uma quantidade de gerações igual a 100 e para cada parametrização avaliou-se 30 repetições. Os resultados foram comparados com aqueles obtidos utilizando-se programação linear e programação linear inteira. Para a programação inteira considerou-se a melhor solução após 1 hora de processamento. A melhor configuração foi a que considerou 80 células na população inicial, taxas de seleção, clonagem, hipermutação e substituição iguais a 0,20, 0,80, 0,20 e 0,50, respectivamente. Os resultados apresentados pela metaheurística Clonal Selection Algorithm foram 1,69% superiores à programação linear inteira e 4,35% inferior a programação linear. Conclui-se que a metaheurística apresentada pode ser utilizada para resolução de problemas de ordenamento florestal.

ABSTRACT It is important to evaluate the application of new technologies in the field of computational science to forest science. The goal of this study was to test a different kind of metaheuristic, namely Clonal Selection Algorithm, in a forest planning problem. In this problem, the total management area is 4.210 ha that is distributed in 120 stands in ages between 1 and 6 years and site indexes of 22 m to 31 m. The problem was modeled considering the maximization of the net present value subject to the constraints: annual harvested volume between 140,000 m3 and 160,000 m3, harvest ages equal to 5, 6 or 7 years, and the impossibility of division of the management unity at harvest time. Different settings for Clonal Selection Algorithm were evaluated to include: varying selection, cloning, hypermutation, and replacement rates beyond the size of the initial population. A generation value equal to 100 was considered as a stopping criteria and 30 repetitions were performed for each setting. The results were compared to those obtained from integer linear programming and linear programming. The integer linear programming, considered to be the best solution, was obtained after 1 hour of processing. The best setting for Clonal Selection Algorithm was 80 individuals in the initial population and selection. Cloning, hypermutation, and replacement rates equal to 0.20, 0.80, 0.20 and 0.50, respectively, were found. The results obtained by Clonal Selection Algorithm were 1.69% better than the integer linear programming and 4.35% worse than the linear programming. It is possible to conclude that the presented metaheuristic can be used in the resolution of forest scheduling problems.

RESUMO Objetivou-se caracterizar a população de Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville para verificar a viabilidade de manejo em uma área de cerrado sensu stricto no norte de Minas Gerais. Para isso, inventariaram-se 25 parcelas, de 400 m² cada uma, em dois sítios (I e II), totalizando 1 hectare amostrado em cada sítio. Foram mensurados todos os indivíduos adultos vivos de barbatimão com diâmetros a 1,30 m do solo (DAP) ≥ 3 cm de barbatimão. Dentro das parcelas foram mensurados o diâmetro (DAP) e a altura (H) e, posteriormente, para cada sítio foram avaliados: o quociente de De Liocourt (q), a área basal (G) e a estratificação vertical. Os resultados mostraram uma densidade de 180 e 218 indivíduos/ha, diâmetros médio de 7,38 e 6,26 cm, média de 'q' de 2,22 e 1,50 e alturas médias de 2,93 e 3,10 m nos dois sítios respectivamente. O quociente de De Liocourt mostrou comprometimento no recrutamento em algumas classes diamétricas no Sítio II. Apesar do desbalanceamento apontado pelo valor 'q', a distribuição diamétrica comportou-se de forma exponencialmente negativa conforme o esperado para florestas nativas em processo de sucessão secundária. Observou-se uma maior concentração de indivíduos no estrato médio de altura com 142 e 154 indivíduos em cada sítio respectivamente. Conclui-se que, embora tenham estruturas distintas, nos dois sítios estudados, as populações de barbatimão são compostas por um grande número de indivíduos de pequenos diâmetros e com exclusividade do estrato vertical mediano. A capacidade de regeneração da espécie, alta densidade de indivíduos por hectare e a estrutura horizontal e vertical mostram que existe viabilidade em manejar o barbatimão no dois sítios desde que suas estruturas sejam mantidas equilibradas.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize of the Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville population to verify the viability of sustainable management in area of Savanna in the north of state Minas Gerais, Brazil country. Therefore inventoried 25 plots of 400 square meters in two places, in all was inventoried one hectare in each places. Was measured all adults individuals with diameter at breast height the 1,30 meter (DBH) ≤ 3 centimeter of barbatimão. In these plots was measured the diameter (DBH) and height (H) and subsequently for each site was evaluated: the De Liocourt quotient (q), basal area (G) and vertical stratification. The outcome showed a density of 180 and 218, mean diameters of 7,38 and 6,26 meters, mean of 'q' of 2,22 and 1,50 and means heights of 2,93 and 3,10 meters in two site respectively. The quotient' De Liocourt showed imbalance in the recruitment in some classes of Site two. Although the imbalance indicated by 'q', the diameter distribution behaved exponentially negative as expected for native forests in the process of secondary succession. The Observed a more concentration of individuals in the middle stratum with 142 and 154 individuals in each site respectively. The conclusion this work that is although the species has distinct structure, on both sites studied the population of the barbatimão is constituted for a great number of diameter small individuals and with exclusivity of middle vertical stratum. The regenerative capacity of the specie, density height of the individuals per hectare and the horizontal and vertical structure show that there is viability to manage of the barbatimão on both sites since that their structures is maintained balanced.

RESUMO Neste estudo objetivou-se avaliar o manejo para a espécie Stryphondendron adstringens a partir de diferentes intensidades de cortes seletivos com controle por classe de diâmetro no norte de Minas Gerais. A produção estimada para elaboração dos planos foi obtida a partir de equações para peso seco de casca e volume de madeira para uma área de 31,28 ha e considerando uma demanda comercial de 7.000 kg. ano–1 de cascas. De posse da produção foram simulados dez planos de manejo pelo método GDq. Os planos foram compostos pela remoção de percentuais de área basal (G), em múltiplos de dez a partir de 10% de remoção de G, até o corte raso, totalizando dez planos. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a colheita sustentável deve ser realizada dentro do intervalo de 40 a 70% de remoção de G, que apresentaram respectivamente as seguintes produções de cascas e volume: 224,00 kg-ha–1 e 367,16 kg-ha–1; 0,63 m3-ha–1 e 1,06 m3-ha–1. Conclui-se que o manejo sustentável do barbatimão no norte de Minas Gerais é viável dentro dos intervalos de remoção de 40 a 70% de área basal a partir do controle da colheita pelo método GDq.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the management for the Stryphnodendron adstringens species from different intensities of selective cuts with diameter class control in the northern Minas Gerais state. The estimated production for preparation of the plans was obtained from equation for dry weight of bark (kg) and timber volume (m3) for an area of 31.28 ha and considering a commercial demand of the 7,000 kg.ha-1 of the barks. Ownership production were simulated ten management by GDq method. The plans were in multiples of ten from 10% removal G, up to clear cutting, totaling ten plans. The results indicated that the sustainable haverst should be carried within the range of 40 to 70% removal of basal area, which respectively showed the following productions backs and volume: 224.00 and 367.16 kg.ha–1; 0.63 m3.ha.–1 and 1.06 m3.ha–1. Therewith we conclude that the sustainable management of barbatimão in the northern Minas Gerais state is viable within the removal ranges from 40 to 70% of basal area starting from the control of the havest by GDq method.

This study sought to assess the barbatimão volume and height estimates generating equations that can be used in the preparation of sustainable management plans from models to estimate the total volume with bark, without bark, of the bark as well as hypsometric relations. The production of bark in the various diameter classes was also compared. A forest inventory was conducted and generated the rigorous cubage of 100 separate trees in eight diameter classes by the method of Huber and tested 16 models of volumetric single and double entry and six of hypsometric relations. The best fit models were the Husch and Spurr in logarithmic form and the best height model was Stofel. Regarding the bark proportion it was found a higher percentage in individuals with the lowest diameter classes.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar las estimaciones de volumen y altura para el barbatimão con el fin de generar ecuaciones, que se puedan utilizar en la preparación de planes de gestión sostenible de esta especie, a partir de modelos para así estimar el volumen total con corteza, sin corteza y de la corteza, y también las relaciones hipsométricas. Se comparó también la producción de corteza en las diferentes clases diamétricas. Un inventario forestal ejecutado posibilitó la realización de la cubicación rigurosa de 100 árboles, separados en ocho clases diamétricas por el método de Huber. Se probaron 16 modelos volumétricos de entrada simple y doble, y 6 de relaciones hipsométricas. Los modelos que mejor se ajustaron fueron el de Husch y Spurr en su forma logaritmizada para las estimaciones de volumen y el de Stofel para las estimaciones de altura. Respecto a la proporción de corteza se ha encontrado un mayor porcentaje en los especímenes de las menores clases diamétricas.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar o crescimento inicial de árvores de eucalipto clonal, híbrido de Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla e acácia (Acacia mangium) em fileiras alternadas ou não; em consórcio com forrageiras em ILPF e em monocultivo. O delineamento utilizado foi em blocos completos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, com três arranjos arbóreos constituídos de eucalipto, eucalipto + acácia, acácia, todos na integração lavoura-pecuária-floresta e duas testemunhas em monocultivo (eucalipto e acácia). A altura das árvores de eucalipto é influenciada pelo consórcio com acácia nos arranjos estudados na ILPF, o que não acontece com o diâmetro à altura do peito. O arranjo das espécies de eucalipto e acácia consorciados na mesma linha de plantio possui produtividade igual ao arranjo, utilizando apenas eucalipto nas linhas de plantio em sistemas de ILPF. A produtividade de madeira de eucalipto no arranjo de eucalipto e acácia na mesma linha da ILPF é menor do que em cultivo sozinho na linha, porém, a soma da madeira produzida pelas duas espécies é superior ao arranjo de apenas eucalipto na linha de plantio da ILPF.

The objective was to evaluate initial growth of clonal Eucalyptus, hybrid Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla and Acacia (Acacia mangium) trees in alternate and not alternate rows of trees, intercropped with forage (crop-livestock-forest integration - CLFI) and monoculture. The design was a randomized complete block design with four replications, three arboreal arrangements consisting of eucalyptus, acacia + eucalyptus, acacia, all planted in crop-livestock-forest integration and two monoculture controls (Eucalyptus and Acacia). The height of eucalyptus trees is influenced by the consortium with Acacia in the studied CLFI designs, which does not happen with the diameter at breast height. The arrangement of species of eucalyptus and acacia intercropping in the same row planting has productivity equal to the array using only the lines of eucalyptus planting systems . Timber productivity of acacia and eucalyptus in the same row is less than the same species line, however, the sum of the timber produced from the two species is greater than the arrangement of eucalyptus only row in CLFI.

This study aimed at characterizing social demographic aspects and health conditions of men attending a Primary Family Health Care unit in Montes Claros, MG, Brazil, correlating these variables with health self-perception and identifying men's difficulty in using the health service. 115 adult men were interviewed who had attended the service in April and May, 2013. Most of them had completed high school, were married and adopted healthy practices, although they consumed alcoholic beverages. The main complaint regarding the health service was the long waiting time for attendance. The main factors that contributed for negative self-perception of health were: being married, suffering from chronic diseases and having low education; whereas those that contributed to the positive self-perception of health were: being young, being employed and not making regular use of medication (p<0.05). Those findings can subsidize policies to prevent diseases in promoting men's health.

El objetivo fue caracterizar las condiciones sociodemográficas y de salud de hombres atendidos en una Unidad Básica de Salud de Montes Claros, MG, Brasil, y correlacionar estas variables con la percepción de salud e identificar las dificultades de los hombres en servicio. Se entrevistaron 115 hombres adultos que buscaban la unidad de salud, entre abril y mayo de 2013. La mayoría tenía enseñanza secundaria completa, era casada y adoptaba prácticas saludables, sin embargo consumiera alcohol. La mayor queja sobre el servicio fue el retraso para la atención. Los factores que más contribuyeron a la percepción negativa de la salud fueron tener un compañero, enfermedades crónicas y bajo nivel educativo; y los más importantes para la autopercepción positiva de salud fueron ser joven, tener un trabajo y no hace uso regular de medicamentos (p<0,05). Los resultados pueden reforzar las políticas de prevención de enfermedades y promoción de salud la población masculina.

O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar as condições sociodemográficas e de saúde em homens atendidos em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde da Família de Montes Claros, MG, Brasil correlacionar essas variáveis à percepção da saúde e identificar as dificuldades dos homens no atendimento prestado pelo serviço. Entrevistou-se 115 homens adultos que buscaram a unidade de saúde entre abril e maio de 2013. A maioria tinha ensino médio completo, era casada e adotava práticas saudáveis embora consumisse álcool. A maior reclamação sobre o serviço de saúde foi a demora para o atendimento. Os fatores que mais contribuíram para autoavaliação negativa da saúde foram ter um companheiro(a), doenças crônicas e baixa escolaridade; e os mais significativos para autoavaliação positiva da saúde foram ser jovens, ter um trabalho e não fazer uso regular de medicamentos (p<0.05). Os resultados podem subsidiar políticas de prevenção de doenças e promoção de saúde para população masculina.

Os sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) além de geração de renda e conservação da biodiversidade pode ser uma alternativa para a estocagem de carbono. O trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar três sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) e estimar os estoques de carbono na fitomassa aérea, na serapilheira e no solo. Os SAFs e suas respectivas vegetações nativas adjacentes foram caracterizados quanto ao número, classificação botânica,distribuição diamétrica e estratificação vertical dos indivíduos arbóreose. Em cada um dos sistemas, foram estimados os estoques de carbono na fitomassa aérea, na serapilheira e no solo. Os SAFs,implantados a partir do manejo da vegetação nativa, apresentaram uma biodiversidade vegetal e estoque de carbono na fitomassa, na serapilheira e no solo semelhantes à área de vegetação nativa adjacente. Por outro lado, os estoques de carbono no SAF implantado em área anteriormente cultivada com culturas anuais apresentou menor diversidade de espécies arbóreas e estoques de carbono na fitomassa, serapilheira e no solo, em relação à vegetação nativa adjacente. Sistemas agroflorestais bem manejados se assemelham à vegetação nativa em estoque de carbono e conservação da biodiversidade dos recursos naturais.

Agroforestry systems (SAFs) as well as income generation and biodiversity conservation can be an alternative to carbon stocks. The study aimed to characterize and estimate the soil and plant carbon stocks of SAFs in Brazilian savannas of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Three agroforestry systems and their adjacent native vegetation were evaluated. In addition, the forest inventory, the diameter distribution and vertical stratification of tree species were measured. The SAFs deployed from the management of native vegetation had a plant biodiversity and carbon stock in biomass, litter and soil similar to that of the adjacent area of native vegetation. On the other hand, carbon stocks in SAF deployed in the area cultivated with annual crops had lower species diversity and carbon stocks in biomass, litter and soil in relation to native vegetation adjacent. Agroforestry systems well managed have carbon stocks and biodiversity of natural resources like native vegetation.

RESUMO As florestas da bacia do alto Araguaia estão diariamente expostas a vários agentes de degradação devido à intensa prática de agricultura nessa região. Vinte e dois fragmentos (de 10 a 169 ha) foram inventariados pelo método de quadrantes centrados, com o objetivo de caracterizar a estrutura da vegetação e criar um banco de dados de informações voltado para programas de restauração florestal na região. Foram amostradas 109 espécies pertencentes a 78 gêneros e 42 famílias. Dessas, 73,4% apresentaram padrão de dispersão zoocórica e 69,7% foram classificadas como de estádios iniciais de sucessão (53,2% secundárias iniciais e 16,5% pioneiras). O índice de Shannon foi 3,86 nats.ind-1 e o de equabilidade de Pielou foi 0,82. As estimativas da densidade e área basal, considerando todos os fragmentos, foram de 1.351 árvores.ha-1 e 19,28 m2.ha-1, respectivamente. As áreas apresentaram uma menor riqueza (quando comparadas a matas de galerias mais conservadas), heterogeneidade nos índices de diversidade e equabilidade, tamanho reduzido das árvores e consequente baixa área basal, elevado número de espécies características de estádios intermediários de sucessão ecológica e colonização de espécies de cerrado e cerradão em áreas mais antropizadas, alterando a paisagem original. Tal situação, somada à importância dessas áreas para a conservação da biodiversidade e de serviços ecológicos (principalmente relativos à água), exige ações de proteção e manejo conservacionista que aproveitem o grande potencial regenerativo da área, dado pela existência de um grande número de espécies secundárias iniciais e predomínio das espécies zoocóricas.

ABSTRACT The forests of upper Araguaia river basin are daily exposed to degradation agents due to intense agriculture practices. Twenty-two fragments (of 10 until 169 ha) were surveyed according to point-centered quarter method to characterize vegetation structure and to create a database to forest restoration. One hundred and nine (109) species, belonging to 78 genus and 42 families, were sampled where 73.4% revealed zoochorous dispersal pattern, and 69.7% were classified to initial sucessional category. Shannon index and Pielou equability index were 3.86 nats. ind-1 and 0.82, respectively. Density and total basal area estimated were 1,351 trees.ha-1 and 19.28 m2.ha-1. The areas showed lower richness, Shannon and Pielou heterogeneity indices, lower basal area, and high number of species of intermediate stage of ecological sucession and colonization of cerrado and cerradão species in disturbed areas, altering the original landscape. Such situation, added to the importance of those areas for the biodiversity conservation and ecological services (mainly relative to the water), demands protection actions and management that use the great regenerative potential of the area, given by the existence of a great number of initial secondary species and the prevalence of zoochoric species.
