ABSTRACT An alternative to reduce the time taken for height measurements of trees is the use of equations, usually obtained from the fitting of local hypsometric models, which require the fit of equations for each stratum that characterize the forest. Therefore, this work was developed with the objective of evaluating regional hypsometric models adjusted to clonal eucalyptus data. A total of 26 regional fixed-effect (FE) models were evaluated, adopting the following statistical criteria: lack of multicollinearity, significance in the estimation of regression coefficients, compliance with regression assumptions, graphical residual analysis and validation test with independent data adopting the mean squared of the prediction residuals, the sum of squares of the relative prediction residuals, the interquartile range between the 1st and 3rd quartiles and multiple linear correlation. After identifying the FE model that most stood out among the others, it was adjusted in the form of a mixed effect (ME) model, by including the random effect of the sampling unit. In this case, to compare with the respective FE model, in addition to the previous criteria, the following were adopted: Akaike information criterion, Bayesian information criterion and maximum likelihood ratio test. It was concluded that there is an inexorable need to consider the adjustment of models with ME, because it stands out above the respective model with FE.

RESUMO Uma alternativa para reduzir o tempo despendido com a medição da altura das árvores é o emprego de equações, geralmente, geradas a partir do ajuste de modelos hipsométricos locais, os quais exigem o ajuste de equações conforme o número de unidades amostrais e, ou, estratos que caracterizam a população inventariada. Por isso, este trabalho tem o objetivo de avaliar modelos hipsométricos regionais ajustados aos dados de eucalipto clonal. Foram avaliados um total de 26 modelos regionais de efeito fixo (EF), adotando-se os seguintes critérios estatísticos: inexistência de multicolinearidade, significância na estimativa dos coeficientes de regressão, atendimento às pressuposições de regressão, análise gráfica de resíduos e teste validação com dados independentes, adotando-se a média dos quadrados dos resíduos de predição, a soma dos quadrados dos resíduos de predição relativos, o intervalo interquartil entre o 1º e 3º quartis e correlação linear múltipla. Após identificar o modelo de EF que mais se sobressaiu dentre os demais, procedeu-se o seu ajuste na forma de modelo de efeito misto (EM), ao incluir o efeito aleatório da unidade amostral. Neste caso, para comparar com o respectivo modelo de EF, além dos critérios anteriores, adotaram-se: critério de informação de Akaike, critério de informação Bayesiano e teste da razão da máxima verossimilhança. Concluiu-se a necessidade inexorável de considerar o ajuste de modelos com EM, por este se destacar sobremaneira ao respectivo modelo com EF.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma análise de regressão do afilamento do fuste de Corymbia citriodora. Para isso, foram cubadas 24 árvores-amostra abatidas disponibilizando os dados necessários ao ajuste de 46 modelos de afilamento de efeito fixo (EF), os quais foram avaliados por meio de uma detalhada análise de regressão baseando-se nos critérios estatísticos: análise gráfica dos resíduos, erro padrão residual, coeficiente de determinação ajustado, delineamento em blocos casualizados no esquema de parcelas subdivididas com posterior aplicação do teste Dunnett, desvio absoluto médio, Raiz quadrada do erro médio, soma dos quadrados dos resíduos relativos, desvio padrão das diferenças, critério de informação de Akaike e soma de quadrados dos resíduos. O modelo EF que mais se sobressaiu, dentre os 46 avaliados, foi ajustado incluindo-se os efeitos aleatórios da classe diamétrica e da razão H/D (CHD), resultando em uma equação de efeito misto (EM). Com isso, as equações obtidas EF e EM foram avaliadas adotando-se, também, os critérios estatísticos referentes à significância da estimativa dos coeficientes de regressão, pressuposições da regressão quanto à normalidade, homoscedasticidade e independência de resíduos e teste da razão da máxima verossimilhança. Concluiu-se por um modelo de melhor desempenho que foi do tipo expoente-forma não linear com inclusão do efeito aleatório CHD, havendo expressiva superioridade tanto na precisão quanto na acurácia da equação EM frente a de EF.

Abstract This work aimed to carry out a regression analysis of the tapering of the stem of Corymbia citriodora. For this, 24 felled sample trees were cubed, providing the necessary data for the adjustment 46 fixed-effect (FE) taper models, which were evaluated by means of a detailed regression analysis based on statistical criteria: graphical analysis of residuals, residual standard error, adjusted coefficient of determination, randomized block design in a split-plot scheme with subsequent application of the Dunnett test, mean absolute deviation, square root of mean error, sum of squares of relative residuals, standard deviation of differences, Akaike's information criterion and sum of squares of residuals. The EF model that most stood out among the 46 evaluated was adjusted by including the random effects of the diametric class and the H/D ratio (CHD), resulting in a mixed-effect equation (ME). Thus, the equations obtained FE and ME were evaluated by also adopting the statistical criteria referring to the significance of the estimation of the regression coefficients, regression assumptions regarding normality, homoscedasticity and independence of residues and maximum likelihood ratio test. It was concluded that a model with the best performance was the nonlinear exponent-form type with the inclusion of the CHD random effect, with expressive superiority in both the precision and the accuracy of the EM equation compared to the FE equation.

Resumo O estudo teve por objetivo avaliar sistema de equações utilizados na construção de diagramas de manejo de densidade. Os dados foram coletados em plantios clonais de teca na região centro-sul do estado de Mato Grosso. A idade de medição do plantio variou de um a oito anos, sendo que os dados foram coletados em parcelas circulares com área de 359 m2 a 616 m2. Das árvores que compuseram as unidades amostrais foram mensurados o diâmetro a altura do peito e a altura total. O volume foi calculado a partir da cubagem de 827 das árvores pelo método de Smalian. Dois sistemas de equações foram utilizados para a realização do estudo e a avaliação da precisão do ajuste foi realizada através das estatísticas: erro padrão residual (RMSE); erro padrão em escala percentual (RMSE%); coeficiente de determinação (R2) representado pelo coeficiente de correlação ao quadrado ( r 2 x y); resíduos em escala percentual (Resíduo (%)); e análise gráfica do perfilhamento dos parâmetros. O sistema de equações que obteve melhor resultado foi o proposto por Dean e Baldwin, com valores de 0,9942 a 0,9994, e de 2,88 a1,84, em relação ao outro sistema que apresentou 0,9558 a 0,9539, e 13,94 a 7,99 para as estatísticas do R2 e RMSE (%), respectivamente. A distribuição dos resíduos do sistema de Dean e Baldwin foram também superiores, corroborando os resultados das análises estatísticas. Os resultados deste trabalho permitem inferir que o sistema de equações proposto por Dean e Baldwin é mais preciso, e, portanto, o indicado na elaboração de diagramas de manejo da densidade populacional em povoamentos clonais de teca.

Abstract The aim objective of study was to evaluate the system of equations used at the construction of density management diagrams. The data was collected at clonal stands of teak in the southern-central region of Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The ages of the stand varied between one and eight years, where the measures were taken in circular plots. The plots had areas varying from 359 to 616 m2. The diameter at breast height and total height were measured from the trees that composed the plots. The volume was calculated in 827 trees by the Smalian’s method. Two systems of equation were used to carry this study out and the evaluation of the fit was made by the statistics: root mean square error (RMSE), percentage of root mean square error (RMSE (%)), coefficient of determination (R2) represented by the squared correlation coefficient ( r 2 x y), residuals in the percentage scale (residual (%)), and graphical analysis of the parameter fittings. The system of equation that obtain the best results was the proposed by Dean and Baldwin, with the statistic R2 between 0,9942 - 0,9994, and RMSE (%) 2,88 - 1,84, regarding the other system that presented 0,9558 - 0,9539 and 13,94 -7,99 to the statistics R2 and RMSE (%), respectively. The distribution of residues from the Dean and Baldwin system were also superior, corroborating the results of the statistical analyzes. The results of this work allow us to infer that the system of equations proposed by Dean and Baldwin is more accurate, and, therefore, the one indicated in the development of population density management diagrams in clonal teak stands.

ABSTRACT Volumetric equations is one of the main tools for quantifying forest stand production, and is the basis for sustainable management of forest plantations. This study aimed to assess the quality of the volumetric estimation of Eucalyptus spp. trees using a mixed-effects model, artificial neural network (ANN) and support-vector machine (SVM). The database was derived from a forest stand located in the municipalities of Bom Jardim de Minas, Lima Duarte and Arantina in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The volume of 818 trees was accurately estimated using Smalian’s Formula. The Schumacher and Hall model was fitted by fixed-effects regression and by including multilevel random effects. The mixed model was fitted by adopting 14 different structures for the variance and covariance matrix. The best structure was selected based on the Akaike Information Criterion, Maximum Likelihood Ratio Test and Vuong’s Closeness Test. The SVM and ANN training process considered diameter at breast height and total tree height to be the independent variables. The techniques performed satisfactorily in modeling, with homogeneous distributions and low dispersion of residuals. The quality analysis criteria indicated the superior performance of the mixed model with a Huynh-Feldt structure of the variance and covariance matrix, which showed a decrease in mean relative error from 13.52% to 2.80%, whereas machine learning techniques had error values of 6.77% (SVM) and 5.81% (ANN). This study confirms that although fixed-effects models are widely used in the Brazilian forest sector, there are more effective methods for modeling dendrometric variables.

ABSTRACT Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) derived individual tree crown attributes can potentially serve as a tool for ecology and forest dynamics studies and reduce field inventory costs. In this study, four methods of individual tree detection (ITD), Watershed, Silva et al. (2016), Dalponte and Coomes (2016), and Coomes et al. (2017), were evaluated in a tropical forest under sustainable forest management, situated in the State of Rondônia, Brazil. An automated tree matching procedure was developed in order to minimize the error when matching individual tree count from LiDAR and field data. In order to compare the four methods, results were expressed in recall, precision, and F score. Silva et al. (2016) outperformed the other methods, detecting 48% of trees with 46% of precision. Omission of trees was the leading source of error, caused primarily by overlapped trees in lower vegetation. However, errors of over-segmentation were relevant, caused by large and heterogeneous crowns that had multiple detections. Current canopy height model-based methods are ineffective to tropical forests, due to its complexity, which present a challenge for ITD algorithms. We believe that future studies that use complete 3D information from the point cloud, and multi-layer approaches should help to improve the accuracy of individual tree detection.

ABSTRACT Tectona grandis (teak) plantations have gained increased interest in recent decades in Brazil, bringing about the need for acquiring information regarding the growth and productive potential. The present work aims to evaluate the growth of dominant height in teak at various locations in the state of Mato Grosso, midwest Brazil. For this purpose, six stands were evaluated in distinct municipalities and the database was obtained from trunk analysis. Subsequently, the dominant height growth was estimated using nonlinear regression models, whose performance was evaluated, based on goodness-of-fit statistics and graphical analysis of residues. Tests for model identity were used to analyze the differences in growth rates between sites (municipalities). The studied teak stands displayed different dominant height growth trends, with differences reaching up to 37%.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to assess the prediction of partial volumes with nonlinear mixed modeling for Pinus taeda. The volume of 558 trees was measured. The four-parameter logistic model was used in its modified form for the nonlinear mixed approach and, for comparison, the 5th degree polynomial was used. In the mixed modeling, the random effects diameter, age and place were inserted. The statistical criteria used to assess the quality of the adjustment were the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), standard error of the estimate (Syx) and residual graphical analysis. Among the random effects analyzed, age obtained the best adjustment. However, to predict partial volumes, it was noticed that, regardless of the analyzed portion of the trunk, the 5th degree polynomial had the best estimates, with a mean standard error of 20.1% of the estimate compared to 51.8% of the logistic.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a rotação econômica de plantações de eucalipto em três diferentes sítios produtivos sob condições de risco. Os dados utilizados na realização do estudo são provenientes de plantios equiâneos e monoclonais do híbrido Eucalyptus urograndis, e cedidos pela empresa Fibria Celulose. Além dos dados de produção das áreas foram também cedidas as informações de fluxo de caixa. Para a análise de risco utilizou-se o método de Monte Carlo, tendo como resultado da simulação o Valor Presente Líquido para séries Infinitas e, como variáveis de entrada e/ou fontes de incertezas, as distribuições de probabilidade referentes ao preço da terra e da madeira, o custo de colheita e transporte, a taxa de juros e além da produção de madeira. A simulação constituiu na realização 10.000 de iterações, em que foram obtidas as informações necessárias ao prosseguimento das análises. Concluiu-se que a rotação ótima para corte foi de 6, 8 e 11 anos nos sítios bom (I), médio (II) e ruim (III), respectivamente, sendo, portanto, condizente com as leis biológicas de crescimento. Conclui-se ainda que sob as mesmas condições de manejo, sítios mais produtivos geram maior retorno econômico e por consequência menor risco em cenários econômicos desfavoráveis.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the economic cycle rotation of eucalyptus plantations in three productivity sites over hazardous conditions. The data used on this study, released by the company Fibria Celulose. Besides the timber production data, it was also given the company cash flow. It was from an even- aged stand and a monoclonal stand both of Eucalyptus urograndis. For the risk analysis, the study used Monte Carlo method, having as a result of the simulation the Net Present Value for Infinite Series, using as an input variable and/or source of uncertainty, the probability distributions of the land and wood prices, the costs of harvesting and transportation activities, the interest rate and also the timber production. The simulation consisted in carrying out 10,000 interactions, where it was obtained the necessary information for the development of the next analysis. As a conclusion the optimal rotation for cutting was 6, 8 and 11 years on the good sites (I), regular sites(II) and poor sites(III) respectively, being consistent with the biological laws of growth. Another conclusion is that even under the same management conditions, more productive sites generate greater economic returns and therefore lower risk in adverse economic scenarios.

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this study was to assess nonlinear models generated by integrating the basal area growth rate to estimate the growth and yield of forest stands. The database was collected from permanent sample units, in Paraopeba county, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The stands were represented by Eucalyptus camaldulensis × Eucalyptus urophylla hybrid trees, with 3 × 3 meters of spacing. The data were divided into two groups: fitting and validating databases. Two nonlinear models (Strategy A and Strategy B) were developed using differential equations to estimate the basal area growth and yield of the sample units. The logistic model was fitted to estimate the volumetric yield as a function of age, site index and basal area. The efficiency of the systems generated by logistic model and models obtained by differential equations (Strategy A and Strategy B) was also compared to the efficiency of the system estimated by the Clutter model (Strategy C). The projection models used to estimate basal area obtained by differential equations were compatible with forest growth and yield, and the logistic model with covariates was compatible with volumetric growth and yield. Strategy A and Strategy B generated different thinning and harvesting options for different site indices, which is biologically consistent.

O objetivo desse trabalho é verificar a exatidão dos dendrômetros ópticos Criterion 400 e RC3H, estudando a qualidade das medidas de cubagem da árvore em pé pelo uso desses dendrômetros. O trabalho foi desenvolvido na Estação Experimental de Itatinga - SP que pertence à Universidade de São Paulo (ESALQ-USP). Amostraram-se no total 175 árvores em três parcelas de Eucalyptus grandis. O diâmetro do fuste das árvores em pé foi mensurado com os dois dendrômetros ópticos nas distâncias de 0,1; 0,4; 0,7; 1,0; 1,3; 2,0 m e a partir desse ponto, de metro em metro ao longo do tronco até os 8 m de altura. Após a cubagem em pé foram derrubadas as árvores e obtido o diâmetro nas diferentes posições com uma suta e trena nas mesmas posições em que se realizou a cubagem não destrutiva. De posse dos diâmetros foi calculado o volume por secção e por árvore individual pelo uso da fórmula de Smalian para posterior comparação dos métodos. Analisando as medidas do diâmetro do fuste e volume por árvore percebe-se que os dois dendrômetros forneceram medidas subestimadas de modo geral, porém, o Criterion foi o que resultou nas melhores estimativas. Para o diâmetro e volume por árvore, o Criterion demonstrou erros subestimados médios de aproximadamente 1 cm (10%), enquanto o RC3H resultou em erros superiores aos 5 cm (30%) em média. Portanto, quando se deseja maior confiabilidade e exatidão das variáveis observadas de forma não destrutiva, o Criterion apresentou melhores resultados.

The aim of this paper is to verify the accuracy of the optical dendrometers Criterion 400 and RC3H by studying the quality of measures of wood volume determination of standing trees through these dendrometers. The study was developed at the Experimental Station of Forest Sciences, in Itatinga, São Paulo state, which belongs to the University of São Paulo (ESALQ / USP). It was sampled a total of 175 trees in three plots of Eucalyptus grandis. The stem diameter of standing trees was measured by the two optical dendrometers at distances of 0.1, 0.4, 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, 2.0 meters from this point meter by meter along the stem up to 8 meters height. After measuring the standing trees they were felled and the diameter was obtained in different positions with a caliper and a tape in the same positions that the non-destructive measures were taken. With the diameters the volume was calculated by section and by individual trees by the Smalian formula for the comparison of methods. Analyzing the measurements of stem diameter and the individual tree volume realizes that the two dendrometers provided measures generally underestimated. However, the Criterion provided the best estimates. For the diameter and individual tree volume the Criterion showed underestimated errors averaging approximately 1 cm (10%), while the RC3H resulted in errors greater than 5 cm (30%) on average.Thus, when measuring observed variables in a non-destructive way with reliability and accuracy, the Criterion showed better results.

Conduziu-se, este trabalho, com o objetivo de avaliar a teoria dos modelos generalizados mistos e a modelagem da heterogeneidade de variância no ajuste de dois modelos não lineares para a relação altura-diâmetro em Eucalyptus sp. Foram utilizados dados de árvores-amostras de diferentes materiais genéticos (clone e semente) e idades. De acordo com as análises, o modelo assintótico obteve os melhores resultados em relação ao modelo sigmoidal. A precisão dos modelos avaliados aumentou com a utilização da teoria dos efeitos mistos com adição de covariáveis e a modelagem da heterogeneidade da variância.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the theory of the generalized mixed models and the modeling of the heteroscedasticity of variance in the fit of two nonlinear models for the height-diameter relationship in Eucalyptus sp. Data from sample trees of different genotypes (clone and seed) and ages were used. According to the analysis, the asymptotic model achieved the best results compared to the sigmoid model. The accuracy of the models increased using the theory of mixed effects with the addition of covariates and modeling of the heteroscedasticity of variance.

Objetivou-se, no presente trabalho, avaliar modelos para estimar a produção de sortimentos de plantios clonais do híbrido Eucalyptus camaldulensis x Eucalyptus urophylla com espaçamento 3 x 3 m, localizados em Paraopeba, Minas Gerais, Brasil. Para estimar a produção em área basal e volume dos sortimentos de povoamentos, foram utilizados dados parcelas permanentes. Para estimar o volume dos sortimentos, foram analisados o modelo logístico com adição de covariáveis e o modelo de Clutter. Para a seleção do modelo mais preciso, foram utilizadas as estatísticas erro padrão relativo [Syx (%)], viés (V), média das diferenças (MD), desvio padrão das diferenças (DPD) e análise gráfica dos resíduos. De acordo com as análises, o modelo Logístico obteve o melhorresultado para estimar a produção em volume de madeira para energia e celulose. A metodologia de estimação da produção de sortimentos de plantações florestais analisada foi de fácil aplicação e precisa.

The aim of this study was to evaluate models to estimate the assortment yield of clonal Eucalyptus camaldulensis x Eucalyptus urophylla hybrid plantations with 3 x 3 m spacing in the Paraopeba city, Minas Gerais, Brazil. To estimate basal area and volume of the assortment yield data from permanent plots was used. To estimate the volume of assortments, we analyzed the logistic model with covariates and the Clutter model. The statistical standard error [Syx (%)], bias (V), average of the differences (MD), and standard deviation of the differences (DPD), as well as the graphical analysis of the residuals were used to select the most accurate model. According to the analysis, the Logistic model obtained the best results for estimation of the yield in wood volume for energy and pulpwood. The methodology to estimate assortment of forest plantations was considered easy to use and accurate.

Neste trabalho, objetivou-se propor o uso de modelos não lineares generalizados na predição da área basal e do crescimento e produção em volume total do híbrido Eucalyptus urocamaldulensis, em um plantio localizado na região central do estado de Minas Gerais, pertencente à V& M Florestal. A metodologia proposta permite trabalhar com os dados na sua forma original sem a necessidade de transformações de variáveis, e gerar modelos mais precisos. Para a avaliação da qualidade de ajuste dos modelos propostos, foram utilizados os critérios de informação Bayesiano, de Akaike e o teste de razão da máxima verossimilhança, além do erro padrão residual e percentual, e dos gráficos de resíduos. Os modelos se mostraram com uma boa performance, altamente precisos e parcimoniosos nas estimativas das variáveis propostas, com erros reduzidos para 12% em área basal e 4% para predição volumétrica.

This paper aims to propose the use of generalized nonlinear models for prediction of basal area growth and yield of total volume of the hybrid Eucalyptus urocamaldulensis, in a stand situation in a central region in state of Minas Gerais. The used methodology allows to work with data in its original form without the necessity of transformation of variables, and generate highly accurate models. To evaluate the fitting quality, it was proposed the Bayesian information criterion, of the Akaike, and test the maximum likelihood, beyond the standard error of estimate, and residual graphics. The models were used with a good performance, highly accurate and parsimonious estimates of the variables proposed, with errors reduced to 12% for basal area and 4% for prediction of the volume.

Verificando a necessidade de aperfeiçoar o planejamento da colheita e transporte de madeira, já que estas atividades são as que mais influenciam no custo final da madeira posta em fábrica, neste trabalho, objetivou-se desenvolver uma nova proposta metodológica que utiliza ferramentas de geotecnologia e pesquisa operacional visando à determinação de melhores locais para o empilhamento de madeira e a quantidade de madeira alocada em cada pilha selecionada. As análises foram feitas, utilizando dois softwares de sistema de informação geográfica (SIG) e de pesquisa operacional (PO), respectivamente. As análises espaciais no SIG foram realizadas a partir de layers da área de estudo pertencente à Votorantim Celulose e Papel, localizada no município de São José dos Campos, visando à obtenção de três variáveis: graus de dificuldade de movimentação de máquinas florestais, grau de dificuldade para o empilhamento de toras e a distância das áreas para empilhamento em relação às estradas existentes. Para a obtenção dessas variáveis, foram combinadas as layers contendo informações sobre a inclinação do terreno e estradas existentes em uma nova análise denominada sobreposição ponderada. Posteriormente, os resultados foram filtrados e inseridos em ambiente de pesquisa operacional que visou à maximização do volume de madeira em cada pilha selecionada. Por meio dos resultados obtidos pelo sistema de informação geográfica foram selecionados 80 locais potenciais para as pilhas de madeira. Com a utilização da pesquisa operacional eliminaram-se 59 destes locais, com uma redução de 73%, restando como locais ótimos 21 pilhas para o armazenamento da madeira. Para cada uma das 21 pilhas, foi determinada a quantidade de madeira ideal a ser alocada em cada uma.

In view of the need to improve the planning of timber harvest and transportation, with both activities being the most influential in determining the final cost of timber delivered to the mill yard, this work aims to develop a new methodological proposal using operations research and geotechnology tools in order to determine optimal locations for log stacking and also the amountof timber to be allocated to each selected stack. Analysis was performed using two software applications, geographic information system (GIS) and operations research (OR). GIS spatial analyses were based on layers of the study site, which is a property owned by Votorantim Celulose e Papel, located in the municipality of São José dos Campos, in order to obtain three variables: degree of difficulty in operating forestry equipment, degree of difficulty in log stacking, and distance between log stacks and existing roadways. To obtain these variables, layers containing information on terrain inclination and existing roadways were combined in another analysis named weighted overlay. Results were then filtered and inserted into an operations research environment for maximizationof the timber volume in each selected stack. With results obtained from the geographic information system, 80 potential sites were selected for log stacking. By using operations research, 59 of these sites were ruled out, a 73% reduction in the number of potential sites, with only 21 sites remaining as potentially optimal for log storage. For each of these 21 sites, an optimal amount of timber wasdetermined to be allocated to each one of them.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar o uso de modelos tradicionais, de perfil e o método da altura relativa, na estimativa do volume comercial de Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan. Os dados foram obtidos da cubagem rigorosa de 22 árvores através do método de Smalian. Os fustes das árvores foram medidos a 0,1m; 0,30m; 0,70m; 1,0m; 1,30m e posteriormente de 1 em 1m. Para fins de avaliação e comparação dos métodos, foram aplicadas estatísticas de: Erro padrão percentual, Bias, Desvio Padrão das Diferenças, além da interpretação gráfica dos resíduos. Com base nestas avaliações pôde-se concluir que o modelo de Stoate é o mais preciso, seguido pelo modelo de Schumacher. Conclui-se também que a linearização do modelo de Schumacher reduziu sua precisão 0,32% em média e que o método da altura relativa foi tendencioso neste estudo.

This work aimed to evaluate the use of traditional models, profile and relative height method, for estimating the commercial volume of Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan. Data were obtained from scaling of separate lengths of the stem of 22 trees, using Smalian's method. Tree stems were measured 0.1m, 0.30m, 0.70m, 1.0m, 1.30m above the ground and then every 1m. For purposes of method assessment and comparison, statistics were used that include percent standard error, bias, standard deviation of differences, in addition to graphic interpretation of residuals. Assessments showed that Stoate's model is the most accurate, followed by Schumacher's model. They also showed that the linearized Schumacher's model reduced accuracy by an average 0.32% and that the relative height method was biased in this study.
