Bibliometric reviews, carried out from access to databases of scientific articles associated with software for data processing, can be helpful for qualitative and quantitative assessments of existing publications on a given topic. Several petroleum hydrocarbons are carcinogenic and immunotoxic agents, causing adverse effects on the biota, and the study of metabolites generated in bioremediation processes has been the object of current research. Therefore, in this work, the use of bibliometric analysis as a tool for surveying studies on the applied metabolomics bioremediation of areas impacted by hydrocarbons is presented. A bibliometric review was carried out in the Scopus Preview and Web of Science databases with data analysis using RStudio software with the bibliometrix package. The survey gathered the studies and prominent publications of the last seven years, making it possible to present gaps and opportunities in the area. reviews processing topic agents biota research Therefore work presented package years area

Abstract Bovine infectious mastitis is largely resistant to antibacterial treatment, mainly due to mechanisms of bacterial resistance in the biofilms formed by Staphylococcus aureus. Melaleuca (MEO) and citronella essential oils (CEO) are promising agents for reducing or eliminating biofilms. Free melaleuca oil presented a medium Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 0.625% and a Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of 1.250%, while free citronella oil showed medium MIC and MBC of 0.313%. Thus, free CEO and MEO demonstrate bacteriostatic and bactericidal potential. We generated polymeric nanocapsules containing MEO or CEO and evaluated their efficacy at reducing biofilms formed by S. aureus. Glass and polypropylene spheres were used as test surfaces. To compare the responses of free and encapsulated oils, strains were submitted to 10 different procedures, using free and nanoencapsulated essential oils (EOs) in vitro. We observed no biofilm reduction by MEO, free or nanoencapsulated. However, CEO nanocapsules reduced biofilm formation on glass (p=0.03) and showed a tendency to diminish biofilms on polypropylene (p=0.051). Despite nanoencapsulated CEO reducing biofilms in vitro, the formulation could be improved to modify the CEO component polarity and, including MEO, to obtain more interactions with surfaces and the biofilm matrix.

An analytical method for multi-elementary determination in powder refreshment, based on sample digestion using dilute mineral acids and detection by inductively plasma coupled optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES) is proposed. Chemometric tools, such as fractional factorial design and principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were applied to optimize the sample preparation conditions in closed block digester, and Doehlert design for spectrometer operation. Addition and recovery tests and analyses of certified reference material were performed to evaluate the precision and accuracy, and the results confirm the reliability of the proposed method. Limits of quantification (LOQ) between 0.02 and 36 µg g−1 were obtained. The analytical method was applied for determination of 24 inorganic constituents in 20 powder refreshment samples. Calcium, K, Mg, Na, P, S and Ti presented the highest concentrations. The analytical method was adequate for the determinations of inorganic constituents in powder refreshment samples by ICP OES.

The concentrations of trace metals Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Zn and V were measured in gills, muscle and hepatopancreas of G. cruentata caught from South of Bahia in order to assess the potential health risk by the consumption of mangrove crabs. The highest metal concentrations in gills, and hepatopancreas were Cu, and Zn in muscles, while the lowest metal concentration in three tissues was Cd and Mo. With the results, it is possible to suggest that the high concentrations of some elements, especially of the Cu, may present risks to the Aratu consumers of the mangrove areas studied, or to other populations where these animals may be transported, same for other cities. The mean concentration of Pb in gills in Una and Jequitinhonha is above the value allowed by the legislation, 3,08 μg g-1 and 3,49 μg g-1, respectively. The concentration of Mn in the females in the three estuaries studied was 1.5 to 4.2 times higher than in the males. In general, detected mean metal concentrations in crab tissues were (in decreasing order) gills > hepatopancreas > muscles. Through the PCA analysis, differentiation between the tissues studied was observed due to its elemental composition. The target hazard quotient (QR) of all trace metals in muscle was less than 1.0 of the provisional tolerable daily intake (IDE) adopted by the USEPA. These results imply that G. cruentata caught from South of Bahia do not have an adverse impact on the consumer health.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

In a study of university students, the percentage nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus was 40.8% (102/250). Of the isolates, MIC50 of methicillin was 0.5 µg/mL and MIC90 was 1 µg/mL. Six (5.8%) isolates were methicillin-resistant and carried the mecA gene. These results suggest that community-associated methicillin-resistant S. aureus may be spreading in Brazil.

For the future use of the marine benthic copepod Tisbe biminiensis in solid-phase sediment toxicological bioassays, the present study investigated the effect of muddy sediment from the Maracaípe estuary (northeastern Brazil), sediment particle size and the reference toxicant potassium dichromate on the species. Muddy sediment from Maracaípe can be used as control sediment, since it does not interfere in the copepod life-cycle and has metal contamination levels that are unlikely to produce any detrimental biological effects on benthic invertebrates. Neither survival nor fecundity was affected by grain size, suggesting that this species can be used with any kind of sediment from muddy to sandy. The sensitivity of T. biminiensis to K2Cr2O7 in acute tests was similar to that of other organisms. The LC50 (lethal concentration to 50% of the test organisms) medium values for T. biminiensis were 7.51, 4.68 and 3.19 mg L-1 for Cr in 48, 72 and 96 h, respectively. These results suggest that T. biminiensis is a promising organism for use in solid-phase sediment toxicity assessments.
