Resumo: O estresse causado por temperatura pode ser mensurado pela atividade de enzimas antioxidantes e predizer a tolerância das espécies ao estresse térmico. Este trabalho investigou os efeitos da temperatura na germinação e atividade de enzimas antioxidantes em sementes de Dalbergia spruceana Benth. As sementes foram incubadas a temperaturas constantes de 20, 25, 30, 35 e 40 °C durante dez dias e avaliada a porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, atividade de enzimas antioxidantes e condutividade elétrica. A temperatura afetou o processo germinativo das sementes, mas não a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes. Temperaturas entre 25 e 35 °C proporcionam o máximo percentual e velocidade de germinação, enquanto 20 e 40 °C geram os menores valores. A atividade da SOD se mostra indiferente às variações da temperatura e os níveis de atividades da CAT e da POX não permitem estabelecê-las como indicadoras de estresse térmico. O padrão crescente de vazamento de eletrólitos revelou tendência na perda da semipermeabilidade das membranas celulares, em temperaturas mais altas.

Abstract: Antioxidant enzyme activity can be used to measure heat stress and predict the tolerance of a species to heat stress. This study investigated the effects of temperature on germination and antioxidant enzyme activity in Dalbergia spruceana Benth. seeds. Seeds were incubated at constant temperatures of 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 °C for ten days; and germination percentage, germination speed index, antioxidant enzyme activity, and electrical conductivity were evaluated. Temperature affected the seed germination process but not antioxidant enzyme activity. Germination percentage and germination speed index were higher at 25 and 35 °C and lower at 20 and 40 °C. Superoxide dismutase activity was not affected by temperature. Catalase and peroxidase activities were too low to be used as indicators of temperature stress. The pattern of increasing electrolyte leakage manifested a trend toward loss of cell membrane semipermeability at higher temperatures.

Resumo: Estudos da germinação de sementes fornecem informações essenciais para a conservação da biodiversidade e programas de restauração ecológica. Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar as relações entre os substratos e a mobilização de reservas durante a germinação de sementes de Ormosia coarctata sob diferentes temperaturas. As amostras foram coletadas a cada 48 h por até 240 h para quantificação de lipídios, açúcares solúveis, amido e proteínas solúveis. A faixa ótima de temperatura para germinação foi de 25 a 35 °C. As maiores porcentagens de germinação foram obtidas com areia ou rolo de papel. Os teores de carboidratos, lipídios e proteínas diminuíram durante a germinação, independentemente da temperatura.

Abstract: Seed germination studies provide essential information for biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration programs. This work aimed to investigate the relationship between the substrates and the mobilization of reserves during germination of Ormosia coarctata seeds under different temperatures. Samples were collected every 48 h for up to 240 h for quantification of lipids, soluble sugars, starch, and soluble proteins. The optimum temperature range for germination was 25 to 35 °C. The highest germination percentages were obtained using sand or paper roll. Carbohydrate, lipid, and protein contents decreased during germination, regardless of temperature.

Resumo: Estudos recentes indicam alta na temperatura global no decorrer desse século, fato que pode ocasionar a extinção de diversas espécies vegetais, visto que processos como a germinação são influenciados pela temperatura. Dentre as espécies com risco de extinção está a Melanoxylon brauna, árvore nativa da Mata Atlântica de ocorrência nas regiões Nordeste e Sudeste. Mesmo diante de sua importância econômica e ecológica, estudos referentes à germinação em condições de estresse térmico, bem como suas consequências bioquímicas nas diferentes partes das sementes, ainda são incipientes. Diante disso, objetivou-se avaliar a germinação e a atividade enzimática na região micropilar de sementes de M. brauna durante a germinação sob estresse térmico. Avaliou-se germinação nas temperaturas de 25, 35 e 45 °C. As atividades das enzimas endo-β-mannanase, α- galactosidase, polygalacturonase, pectinametilesterase, pectinaliase, celulases totais, β-1,3- e β-1,4-glucosidases foram avaliadas em micrópilas embebidas por 0, 24, 48 e 72 h a 25, 35 e 45 °C. Houve maior germinação a 25 °C. Não foi detectada atividade da enzima endo-β-mananase em nenhuma das condições avaliadas. A temperatura de embebição influenciou a atividade das demais enzimas.

Abstract: Recent studies indicate that global temperatures will rise substantially in the 21st century, leading to the extinction of several plant species, as plant metabolism and germination are greatly affected by temperature. Melanoxylon brauna, a tree species native to the Atlantic Forest that occurs from northeastern to southeastern Brazil, is one of the many species threatened by global warming. Despite the economic and ecological importance of M. brauna, studies investigating the influence of heat stress on seed germination and biochemical responses are still incipient. This study aimed to evaluate enzyme activity in the micropylar region of M. brauna seeds during germination under heat stress conditions. Endo-β-mannanase, α-galactosidase, polygalacturonase, pectin methylesterase, pectin lyase, total cellulase, 1,3-β-glucosidase, and 1,4-β-glucosidase activities were determined in micropyles of seeds imbibed for 24, 48 and 72 h at 25, 35 and 45 °C. Seed germination was highest at 25 °C. Endo-β-mannanase activity was not detected under any of the experimental conditions, but imbibition temperature had a significant effect on the activity of all other enzymes.

Resumo: Os efeitos dos doadores de NO na germinação sob estresse salino têm sido muito investigados para muitas espécies, entretanto, há relatos de que o efeito causado pelos doadores são efeitos do cianeto presente. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos do SNP na germinação, no sistema antioxidativo e na peroxidação lipídica de sementes de Senna macranthera sob estresse salino. Foram utilizados os potenciais osmóticos de -0,4 e -0,5 MPa de NaCl, e a concentração de 100 μM de nitroprussiato de sódio, nitroprussiato de sódio inativo. A taxa de germinação, as curvas de embebição, a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes, a peroxidação lipídica e o teor de proteína foram analisados. Efeitos semelhantes foram observados para o nitroprussiato de sódio e o nitroprussiato de sódio inativo, indicando que os efeitos foram relacionados à liberação do cianeto presente no nitroprussiato de sódio. O SNP favoreceu a germinação das sementes de Senna macranthera sob estresse salino devido à liberação de cianeto. O cianeto foi benéfico para a germinação reduzindo a peroxidação lipídica e aumentando a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes.

Abstract: The effects of NO donors on germination under saline stress have been much investigated for many species, however, there are reports that the effect caused by donors are effects of cyanide present. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on germination, antioxidative system and lipid peroxidation of Senna macranthera seeds under saline stress. The osmotic potentials of -0.4 and -0.5 MPa of NaCl were used, as well as the concentration of 100 μM of sodium nitroprusside, inactive sodium nitroprusside. Germination rate, imbibition curves, antioxidant enzyme activity, lipid peroxidation, and protein content were evaluated. Similar effects were observed for sodium nitroprusside and inactive sodium nitroprusside, indicating that these effects were related to the release of the cyanide present in sodium nitroprusside. The sodium nitroprusside (SNP) improves the germination of Senna macranthera seeds under salt stress conditions, through release of cyanide. The cyanide favored germination, reducing lipid peroxidation and increasing the activity of the antioxidant enzymes.

RESUMO A germinação é um processo fisiológico que começa com a hidratação. Canais específicos conhecidos como aquaporinas são responsáveis pela absorção de água através das membranas celulares biológicas. O cloreto mercúrico (HgCl2) inibe reversivelmente o transporte de água pelas aquaporinas durante a germinação e pode alterar a integridade do ácido desoxirribonucleico (DNA), o que pode resultar na deficiência das aquaporinas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de HgCl2 e ditiotreitol (DTT) sobre a atividade das aquaporinas e sobre a integridade/degradação do (DNA) em eixos embrionários de Schizolobium parahyba (Vell.) Blake durante o processo de germinação. Os eixos isolados foram expostos a diferentes concentrações de HgCl2 ou DTT; e a atividade de aquaporinas, hidratação do embrião e a integridade do DNA foram avaliadas durante a embebição do eixo embrionário. O crescimento e as mudanças no peso fresco do eixo foram quantificados. Descobrimos que o metal pesado afeta a hidratação das sementes por inibição da atividade das aquaporinas e não causa mudanças na integridade do DNA.

ABSTRACT Germination is a physiological process that begins with hydration. Specific channels known as aquaporins are responsible for water uptake through biological cell membranes. The mercuric chloride (HgCl2) reversibly inhibits water transport during germination through the aquaporins and can changes deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) integrity, which can result in aquaporins deficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of HgCl2 and dithiothreitol (DTT) on aquaporins activity and on the integrity/degradation of DNA in embryonic axes of Schizolobium parahyba (Vell.) Blake during the germination process. Isolated axes were exposed to different concentrations of HgCl2 or DTT; and aquaporins activity, embryo hydration, and DNA integrity were evaluated during embryonic axes imbibition. Growth and changes in axis fresh weight were quantified. We found that the heavy metal affects seed hydration by inhibition of aquaporins activity and does not cause changes in DNA integrity.

Resumo: Estudos demonstram o efeito positivo do doador de óxido nítrico (ON) no processo germinativo de sementes. Contudo, não há relatos precisos sobre qual composto presente no nitroprussiato de sódio (SNP) que causaria esses efeitos em sementes sob estresse salino. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos do SNP na germinação de sementes de Senna macranthera sob estresse salino. Foram utilizados os potenciais osmóticos de -0,3, -0,4 e -0,5 MPa de NaCl e a concentração de 100 μM de SNP, SNP inativo e ferrocianeto. A aplicação do SNP na germinação foi feita antes, concomitantemente e depois do estresse salino. Foram avaliados a porcentagem de germinação, o índice de velocidade de germinação, porcentagem de plântulas normais e componentes do desenvolvimento das plântulas. Os tratamentos mais promissores na recuperação da germinação sob estresse salino são -0.4 MPa concomitantemente com SNP; -0.4 MPa concomitantemente com SNP inativo; -0.5 MPa concomitantemente com SNP and -0.5 MPa concomitantemente com SNP inativo. Efeitos similares aos provocados pelo tratamento com SNP também foram constatados nos tratamentos com SNP inativo e ferrocianeto, indicando que os efeitos observados estariam relacionados à liberação do cianeto presente no SNP.

Abstract: Studies show the positive effect of the nitric oxide donor in the seed germination process. However, there are no precise reports about which compound present in sodium nitroprusside would cause these effects in seeds under salt stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SNP on germination of Senna macranthera seeds under salt stress. The osmotic potentials of -0.3, -0.4, and -0.5 MPa of NaCl were used, as well as the concentration of 100 μM of sodium nitroprusside, inactive sodium nitroprusside, and ferrocyanide. The sodium nitroprusside in germination was applied before, during, and after salt stress. Germination rate, germination speed index, percentage of normal seedlings, and seedling development components were evaluated. The treatments that proved to be more promising in recovery of germination under salt stress are -0.4 MPa together with SNP; -0.4 MPa together with inactive SNP; -0.5 MPa together with SNP and -0.5 MPa together with inactive SNP. Effects similar to those brought about by the sodium nitroprusside treatment were also observed in the treatments with inactive sodium nitroprusside and ferrocyanide, indicating that the effects observed were related to release of the cyanide present in the sodium nitroprusside.

RESUMO Aroeira-vermelha tem as sementes como o principal meio de propagação da espécie, justificando o estudo de meios apropriados de armazená-las. Esta pesquisa objetivou a quantificação das alterações fisiológicas e bioquímicas nas sementes nos diferentes ambientes de armazenamento. Para isso, as sementes foram armazenadas em 34, 55, 75 e 93% de umidade relativa (UR) a 20 °C. Antes do armazenamento e a cada dois meses foram retiradas amostras e determinadas os teores de água e de germinação, o índice de velocidade de germinação, a peroxidação de lipídios, a alteração na permeabilidade da membrana e as atividades de enzimas do sistema antioxidante. As sementes morrem em UR de 93% em dois meses, enquanto em 75% UR a perda de viabilidade ocorre em seis meses. Nas demais condições a qualidade fisiológica permaneceu sem grandes variações. A condutividade elétrica e a peroxidação de lipídios tenderam à redução em todos os ambientes e em todas as umidades relativas, respectivamente, após oito meses. As atividades das enzimas superóxido dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) e ascorbato peroxidase (APX) não variaram ao longo do tempo em qualquer condições de UR. Conclui-se que sementes de aroeira-vermelha conservam o vigor por 12 meses quando mantidas em URs de 33 e 55%. Em UR de 93% resulta em deterioração das sementes em dois meses. Em UR de 75% a perda de qualidade reduz em seis meses e não há relação entre a perda de qualidade fisiológica da sementes com a peroxidação de lipídios ou a permeabilidade de membrana.

ABSTRACT Seed propagation is the standard method of propagation of Brazilian peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi); therefore, the study of appropriate conditions of seed storage is of great importance. The aim of this study was to quantify the physiological and biochemical changes that occur in Brazilian pepper seeds under different storage conditions. Seeds were stored at 34, 55, 75, and 93% relative humidity (RH) at 20°C. Samples were collected before storage and every two months for the analysis of moisture content, germination percentage, germination rate, lipid peroxidation, membrane permeability, and activity of enzymes of the antioxidant system. Brazilian pepper seeds remained viable for 12 months when kept at 34 or 55% RH. At 75% RH, seeds lost viability in six months, whereas at 93% RH, seeds deteriorated within two months. Electrical conductivity and lipid peroxidation decreased after eight months of storage under all RH conditions. No relation was observed between loss of physiological quality and lipid peroxidation or membrane permeability. The activity of the enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase did not vary during storage, regardless of RH.

RESUMO A dormência é um fenômeno intrínseco da semente, funcionando como mecanismo de resistência natural aos fatores adversos do meio. A germinação só ocorrerá quando esta for superada e as condições ambientais forem favoráveis ao crescimento das plântulas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o efeito de tratamentos para superação da dormência na estrutura da testa de sementes de Apuleia leiocarpa pela microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Os métodos pré-germinativos para superação da dormência foram: sementes não escarificadas (testemunha), imersão em ácido sulfúrico 75 e 98% por três e nove minutos e imersão em água aquecida a 80ºC por 30 segundos. As sementes foram submetidas às análises em microscopia e foram avaliadas pelo teste de germinação. Os tratamentos foram eficientes em romper a exotesta das sementes de garapa, sendo que o ácido promoveu elevado incremento na germinação. A água aquecida causou a morte das sementes.

ABSTRACT The dormancy is an intrinsic seed phenomenon, functioning as natural mechanism of resistance to adverse environmental factors. Germination will occur only when it is overcome and the environmental conditions are favorable for seedling growth. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of treatments to overcome dormancy in the structure of Apuleia leiocarpa seed testing by scanning electron microscopy. The pre-germination methods to overcome dormancy were: non-scarified seeds (control), immersion in sulfuric acid 75 and 98% for three and nine minutes and immersion in hot water at 800C for 30 seconds. The seeds were submitted to analysis in microscopy and were evaluated by the germination test. The treatments were effective in breaking the exotesta seed of sugar cane juice, wherein the high acid induced increase in germination. The heated water caused the death of seeds.

Resumo: Bactris gasipaes é uma palmeira domesticada com frutos de grande importância para os povos da Amazônia cujo palmito tem tido interesse econômico em outras regiões brasileiras e América Latina. Este estudo objetivou verificar a dormência embrionária e sua correlação com a emergência do primeiro catáfilo em sementes de B. gasipaes coletadas de quatro plantas na cidade de Manaus e quatro na de Coari, Amazonas, Brasil. Após extração e lavagem, algumas das sementes (4 repetições de 25 por planta) foram semeadas em sementeira contendo uma mistura de serragem e areia como substrato, e os embriões (4 repetições de 10 por planta), após a extração, foram inoculados em meio de cultura Murashige e Skoog. Foram utilizadas 100 sementes e 40 embriões por tratamento. A germinação das sementes integrais bem como a germinação de embriões variaram entre as diferentes plantas e procedências, com maior diferença observada para o surgimento do primeiro catáfilo a partir de sementes inteiras. Para a maior parte das variáveis, os resultados foram positivamente associados entre sementes e embriões. Estes resultados sugerem que a dormência em sementes de B. gasipaes pode ser atribuída, ao menos em parte, à dormência embrionária.

Abstract: Bactris gasipaes is a domesticated palm whose fruits are of great importance for the Amazonian people and whose heart of palm is also receiving economic interest in other brazilian and Latin America regions. The aim of this study was verify embryonic dormancy and its correlation with first cataphyll emergence in B. gasipaes seeds collected from four plants at Manaus city and four others at Coari city, both in the Amazonas state, Brazil. After extraction and cleaning, some of the seeds (4 replications of 25 per plant) were sown in a seedbed with a sawdust and sand mixture as substrate, and embryos (4 replications of 10 per plant), after extraction, were inoculated into half strength Murashige and Skoog cultures. Were used 100 seeds and 40 embryo per treatment. Whole seed and embryo germination varied between the different source plants and locations, with the greatest difference observed for the emergence of first cataphyll from seeds in the seedbed. For the most part of variables, results of seed and embryo were positively associated, namely, as one went up the other also, and vice versa. These results suggesting that, at least in part, seed dormancy in Bactris gasipaes is associated with embryonic dormancy.

Resumo: O objetivo neste trabalho foi investigar o efeito do óxido nítrico como agente protetor em sementes de gergelim submetidas a diferentes potenciais osmóticos. Os tratamentos, no total de oito, foram: água (controle), água acrescida de nitroprussiato de sódio (SNP) e os demais tratamentos referentes às concentrações de PEG e PEG acrescido de SNP: 0,1MPa, 0,1MPa +200 µM de SNP, -0,2 MPa, -0,2MPa +200 µM de SNP, -0,3 MPa e -0,3 MPa, +200 µM de SNP. Foram feitas as seguintes determinações: germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento de hipocótilo, radícula e massa seca de hipocótilo e radícula, além da quantificação da atividade das enzimas superóxido dismutase, catalase, ascorbato peroxidase e peroxidases totais. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com cinco repetições. A restrição hídrica reduz a germinação de sementes de gergelim, entretanto, a presença de óxido nítrico (ON) proporciona aumento na germinação e vigor. Há aumento da atividade das enzimas do sistema antioxidante no período de 0 a 24 horas, demonstrando organização do sistema antioxidante nas sementes de gergelim. A associação do PEG-6000 ao SNP aumenta a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes evidenciando um eficiente sistema de eliminação de ERO durante a exposição ao estresse hídrico.

Abstract: The objective in this work was to investigate the effect of nitric oxide (NO) like protective agent in sesame seeds submitted to different osmotic potentials. The treatments, in total of eight, were water (control), water plus sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and the other treatments with PEG 6000 and PEG 6000 plus SNP: - 0.1 MPa, -0.1MPa +200 µM of SNP, 0.2 MPa, -0.2 MPa +200 µM of SNP, -0.3 MPa and -0.3 MPa, +200 µM of SNP. Were done the following determinations: germination, first count of germination, speed germination index, hypocotyl length, radicle length, dry mass of hypocotyl and radicle. It was quantified the activity of the antioxidative enzymes, superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and total peroxidase. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replications. The water restriction reduced the germination of sesame seeds, however, the presence of nitric oxide (NO) due to the application of SNP, was beneficial, promoting increase in germination, vigor and seedlings. There was an increase of antioxidative enzymes activity in the period of 0 to 24 hours, demonstrating organization of antioxidative system in all long the time. The association of PEG 6000 to SNP, increased the activity of antioxidative enzymes, evidencing an efficient system of elimination of ROS formed during the exposition to water deficit.

RESUMO: Considerando o grande potencial oleaginoso da macauba e a sua aplicabilidade nos setores energéticos e industriais, torna-se indispensável o conhecimento das condições adequadas de armazenamento das sementes, garantindo a manutenção da viabilidade. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do teor de água da semente e das condições de armazenamento (temperatura, umidade relativa do ar e embalagem) sobre a qualidade das sementes, oriundas de Minas Gerais, durante 12 meses. O experimento foi realizado através de dois ensaios: no primeiro, as sementes foram armazenadas sob três faixas de umidade, 4,0≤6,0%; 6,0≤8,0% e 8,0≤10,0%, em embalagens impermeáveis, em temperatura ambiente e a 10°C. No segundo, as sementes foram acondicionadas em três tipos de embalagem: a) permeável; b) semipermeável; e c) impermeável. Foram comparadas três condições de armazenamento: a) temperatura e UR ambientes, em condição de laboratório; b) 15ºC e 45% UR; c) 20ºC e 55% UR. Avaliou-se o teor de água, a taxa de germinação e o índice de velocidade de germinação aos 0, 4, 8 e 12 meses de armazenamento. A faixa de umidade de 6,0≤8,0% em temperatura ambiente possibilitou a melhor conservação das sementes durante os 12 meses de armazenamento. Porém, as sementes não sobreviveram em temperatura de 10°C, independente dos teores de umidade. O teor de água de 5,9% e os ambientes de armazenamento de 15°C/45% UR e 20°C/55% UR, independente do tipo de embalagem, apresentaram os melhores resultados ao longo do armazenamento. Dessa forma, as sementes de macauba podem ser classificadas como sementes intermediárias.

ABSTRACT: Macauba palm stands out for having favorable features to biodiesel production such as the high oil content of its fruit. Considering the great potential of the species and their applicability in the renewable energy field, it becomes indispensable to establish the right conditions for storing the seeds for propagation purpose. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of seed moisture content, packaging, and storage conditions such as temperature and relative humidity on the quality of seeds from Minas Gerais State, during a 12-month storage period. The research had two independent assays: (I) the seeds were stored with three moisture contents/ranges 4.0≤6.0%; 6.0≤8.0% and 8.0≤10.0% in impermeable packages, under room temperature and at 10ºC; (II) seeds with approximately 5.9% of moisture content were stored in three different types of packages: a) permeable, b) semi-permeable and c) impermeable. Three storing conditions were tested: a) room temperature and RH under laboratory conditions; b) 15ºC and 45% RH; c) 20ºC and 55% RH. Water content, germination rate and germination speed index were evaluated at 0, 4, 8 and 12 months of storing. The best germination results were obtained with the moisture range of 6.0≤8.0%, with seeds kept at room temperature; while the seeds stored at 10ºC, regardless the moisture range, did not survive. The stored seeds with 5.9% moisture content and at both 15ºC/45%RH and 20ºC/55% RH conditions, independently of the package type used, showed the best results. Thus, macaw palm seeds can be classified as intermediates seeds.

RESUMO Abordou-se, neste trabalho, o manejo florestal sustentável de produtos florestais não madeireiros (PFNM) e avaliou a viabilidade técnica e econômica da produção de frutos de jatobá no sul goiano. Em uma primeira etapa foram mapeadas e georreferenciadas 931 árvores do gênero Hymenaea, nos municípios de Campestre de Goiás - GO, Nazário - GO e Trindade - GO. Em uma segunda etapa, foram estimados os coeficientes técnicos de produção e coletados dados, juntamente ao produtor, quanto aos custos na produção de semente e farinha. O custo de produção foi de R$ 54,06.kg-1 e o preço de venda, de R$ 67,58.kg-1. As análises de viabilidade econômica de plantios de jatobá e de implantação de uma Agroindústria Rural de Pequeno Porte (ARPP) indicaram a partir dos critérios de avaliação econômica VPL (Valor Presente Líquido), TIR (Taxa Interna de Retorno), B/C (razão benefício-custo) e VAE (Valor Equivalente Anual), que há viabilidade na utilização dos frutos em ambos os cenários, desde que as práticas de manejo e estratégias de conservação fomentem a produção sustentável, provendo recursos econômicos enquanto ocorre, simultaneamente, a conservação dos recursos genéticos do jatobá.

ABSTRACT This study addressed the sustainable forest management of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and evaluated the technical and economic viability of producing fruits of jatoba in southern Goiás. In the first step it was mapped and georeferenced 931 trees in the genus Hymenaea at Campestre de Goiás, GO state, Nazario, GO state and Trindade, GO state. In a second step, it was estimated the coefficients of production and technical data collected by the producer as to the costs in the production of seed and flour. The production cost was R$ 54,06.kg-1 and the sales price was R$ 67,58.kg-1. The analysis of the economic viability of jatoba plantations and the implementation of a "Agroindústria Rural de Pequeno Porte (ARPP)" (Small Rural Agricultural Industry), indicated that from the economic evaluation criteria VPL (Net Present Value), TIR (Internal Return Rate), B/C (Benefit-cost analysis) and VAE (Equivalent Annual Value), it is viable to use the fruits in both scenarios as long as the management practices and conservation strategies encourage the sustainable production, providing economic resources while simultaneously promotes the conservation of the jatoba genetic resources.

ABSTRACT Reserve mobilization in seeds occurs after visible germination, which is marked by the protrusion of the radicle or cotyledonary petiole, as in species of Arecaceae. Acrocomia aculeata (macaw palm), usually produces hard seeds whose endosperm has mannan-rich cell walls. We investigated the composition of storage compounds in macaw palm seed and the roles of two enzymes (endo-β-mannanase, α-galactosidase) during and after germination. The seeds were firstly submitted to pre-established protocol to overcome dormancy and promote germination. Enzyme activity in both embryo and endosperm were assayed from the initiation of germinative activities until leaf sheath appearance, and the status of seed structures and reserve compounds were evaluated. Protein content of the embryo decreased with the initiation of imbibition while the lipid content began decreasing six days after removal of the operculum. Increases in enzyme activity and starch content were both observed after visible germination. We suggest that endo-β-mannanase and α-galactosidase become active immediately at germination, facilitating haustorium expansion and providing carbohydrates for initial seedling development. Protein is the first storage compound mobilized during early imbibition, and the observed increase in the starch content of the haustorium was related to lipid degradation in that organ and mannan degradation in the adjacent endosperm.

RESUMO Durante a germinação, uma série de eventos sequenciais ocorre nas sementes em resposta a fatores endógenos e/ou exógenos às mesmas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar as alterações fisiológicas decorrentes da hidratação controlada em água e da temperatura (fatores exógenos) em sementes de Dalbergia nigra (jacarandá-da-bahia). Para tanto, dois lotes de sementes, um de alto e um de baixo vigor foram utilizados nos ensaios. As sementes pertencentes aos dois lotes, após desinfestadas com Captan 0,5%, foram então hidratadas em água, pelo método da atmosfera úmida (umidade relativa de 95-99%), até atingirem quatro níveis de hidratação: 10, 15, 20 ou 25% de teor de água nas sementes, nas temperaturas de 15 e 25ºC. Após os tratamentos foram analisadas as seguintes variáveis: curva de embebição, percentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade (IVG) e condutividade elétrica. Os resultados mostraram que não houve diferença significativa na resposta fisiológica das sementes entre as temperaturas. Por outro lado, para a hidratação verificou-se que até 15% do teor de água aumentou a qualidade fisiológica das sementes de ambos os lotes, que apresentaram maiores valores de germinação, IVG e menores quantidades de compostos lixiviados. A partir de 15% de teor de água verificou-se redução na qualidade das sementes classificadas como de alto vigor, enquanto aquelas de baixo vigor continuaram apresentando respostas positivas em 20 e 25% de teor de água. Diante disto, conclui-se que a técnica de hidratação controlada em água favorece a germinação de sementes de Dalbergia nigra, independentemente do vigor das mesmas. A hidratação no teor de água de 15% é a mais indicada para incrementar a qualidade das sementes. A hidratação nos valores abaixo ou acima resultaram em redução no estímulo.

ABSTRACT During germination, a series of sequential events occur in seeds in response to endogenous and / or exogenous factors. The objective of this study was to investigate the physiological changes resulting from the controlled hydration in water and temperature in seeds of jacaranda-da-bahia (Dalbergia nigra). To this end, two lots of seeds separated as high and low vigor were used in the tests. Seeds belonging to the two lots, after desinfect, were hydrated in water, with the method of humid atmosphere (relative humidity 95-99%) to reach four hydration levels: 10, 15, 20 and 25% moisture content in seeds, in temperatures (exogenous factor) of 15 and 25 ° C. After hydration and temperature treatments, were analyzed the following variables: curve soaking, germination percentage, germination speed index (GSI) and electrical conductivity. The results showed no significant difference in seeds physiological response between the temperatures. On the other hand, for hydration was found that up to 15% moisture content increased the seeds physiological quality of both lots, which showed higher germination values, IVG and smaller amounts of leached compounds. From 15% moisture content were found a reduction in the quality of seeds classified as high vigor, while those of low vigor continued to show positive responses in 20 and 25% humidity. Given this, it is concluded that the technique of controlled hydration in water favors the germination of Dalbergia nigra seeds, independent of the vigor. Hydration moisture content of 15% is more appropriate to increase the seeds quality. The hydration in values below or above resulted in a decrease in the stimulus.

RESUMO O estudo teve por objetivo verificar, descrever e comparar a composição florística e a densidade do banco de sementes de dois estádios sucessionais de uma Floresta Estacional Semidecidual, em Viçosa/MG. Foram coletadas, no total, 40 amostras de solo em dois períodos distintos (final da estação seca e da chuvosa), e colocadas para germinar em caixas de madeira sob 60% de sombreamento. Os indivíduos germinados em cada época de avaliação foram comparados utilizando o teste t para amostras independentes, o qual apontou uma maior germinação de indivíduos no banco de sementes coletado na época de transição entre estações seca e chuvosa. Foram identificados 109 táxons no banco de sementes da floresta como um todo, sendo reconhecidas 101 espécies distribuídas em 73 gêneros de 40 famílias. Ocorreram 56 espécies comuns aos dois trechos de floresta e 49 espécies comuns aos dois períodos de coleta. Asteraceae foi a família que apresentou maior número de espécies, tanto na floresta inicial como avançada, nas duas épocas avaliadas. Os indivíduos herbáceos predominaram nas florestas e épocas de avaliação.

ABSTRACT Aimed of this study was examine, describe and confronted the floristic composition and the density the seed bank in two successional stages of Seasonal Semideciduous Forest, in Viçosa, MG. Forty soil samples total in two distinct period (drought station finish and rainy station finis) and arranged for germinate in wooden boxes (0,5 x 0,5 x 0,1 m) in shading of 60%. The individual germination in each valuation epoch was compared utilizing the t test for independent samples; the test indicated one individual plants germination major in seed bank levy intermediary between epoch drought station finis and rainy station. Hundred nine taxons were sampled in the seed bank the forest altogether, 101 species were identified as belonging to 73 genera distributed among 40 families, 56 species commonness in two successional stages of forest and 49 species commonness of two levy period. Asteraceae was the families with the largest number of species as initial forest much as advanced forest, in both period of valuation. The herbaceous individuals predomination in all forests and valuation epoch, whit not representation the fragility of the seed bank.
